Some of us have been waiting to find out what is in that tower since Guild Wars 1! Yes, I am definitely looking forward to one day figuring out what is in that tower. In GW1 it was located in Kessex Hills but you couldn’t get into it then either, and it was a big mystery even then.
At first I thought the dialogue with Majory was done this way because the Commander (here female Sylvari) was stressed out of bad things happening after another, but later on I realized it was simply how the VA of the female Sylvari sounds lol.
As for Braham: I also agree that I didn’t like his behavior. The main deal with his jerk reaction towards PCs new guild was that both talked past each other. The PC didn’t want to come across as sneaky in stealing DE away post-burial, while Braham probably thought creating and moving on with Dragon Watch is a sign of not respecting (or caring about) Eir. But overall, it’s still hot-headed Braham. Who put DE back in action, and in case of a Norn PC encouraged Eir to move on from the tragedy surrounding Snaff? And Eir certainly wouldn’t agree with Brahams plan to attempt zerging Jormag down. But I also want to state that I didn’t mind Braham during the main story of HoT (maybe because I haven’t played LS1?).
Braham always had a chip on his shoulder about something, that is part of his character and the writers I feel have been pretty consistent with that. In LS1 he was less angsty, but when he was it was because he felt his mother had abandoned him growing up, and that people were not taking the molten alliance threat seriously. Also in LS1 there were a lot more moments where it was ‘Rox and Braham adventures’ without the angst, and we got to see their friendship start and grow during LS1.
That one is a grey area. On one hand, it only uses info available to the API so it is information available to everyone. On the other hand, the developer of that app (TacO) said themselves that they considered this a grey area for what the GW2 devs probably intended to be available to players.
So, yeah. That really didn’t help you that much.
I understand RNG can be frustrating at times, but there is no need to rain on someone else’s parade. People like to celebrate by linking the good stuff and get a round of applause.
I liked how it was handled with Caithe stealing the egg. As you say, we are forced to go along with the story, as we don’t have multiple story paths in GW2 – but in that case it was clear the PC was not happy with what she was doing, she just did it anyway. I’d like to see more of that with Braham as well. He can forge his own path against our will, but we should be way more vocal about our opposition. To me, it just felt like we gave a token effort to dissuade him from going off on his own but just sort of shrugged our shoulders when he doesn’t listen.
If it helps, I would probably have done the same thing. It’s quite clear to me that Braham is not willing or able to listen to reason, and “conversation” is not going to change things here.
I’ve dealt with too many people in that mode in real life to think that the story as written by anet got it wrong in trying a tiny bit, then kind of giving up, being sad, and asking Rox to keep him out of trouble until we can figure out how the heck to save him from himself.
I can totally see why you might want to respond differently, though. My responses are shaped by my own experience in similar situations, and seeing that my instinct to respond isn’t productive. If that is because I got unlucky situations, or sucked when I tried to respond, that’d totally bias me against action when … maybe it’s the right thing to do.
That does help to look at it that way, actually. I still don’t love it, but I can pass off the PC as just giving him some space because we have more important things to do. Really, if it was just Braham putting himself in danger, I would look at it just like you described, but the fact that he is probably going to get a lot of innocents killed with his recklessness is the part that makes me feel like the PC should speak up a bit more.
I always like to see different takes on this stuff though. Thanks!
Hello, one of the problems I’ve been facing for a very long time is that I’ll stop playing for a few months or a year and I’ll come back to find my builds would become obsolete because of balance changes.
I’ve never been one to go for ascended/legendary equipment, I always run with exotics but having to keep buying new sets of exotics and superior runes costs me a lot of karma/gold. I was wondering if perhaps I’m missing an easier way to acquire such equipment to keep up with the ever-changing meta?
I don’t raid or do dungeons, I strictly stick with PvE content or maybe dive into the Edge of the Mists for a little PvP. I usually use WvW or Fractal/Raid builds as a foundation to create PvE builds.
Don’t sweat the meta stuff for world PvE, whatever gear you had should still be fine. My general go to gear is the exotics you get for karma in Orr, and that is sufficient for any PvE. MY ranger is wearing the same set that she got in 2014 and she has been through just about everything the game has to offer.
This is super helpful, and it’s in the right forum, no worries. Players looking for a guide would check this forum, where the community projects are housed, rather than in GW2 Discussion.
I will be mentioning this post on the next Community Showcase Live — I know players will really appreciate it!
Actually, I never check this forum for guides; I never look here to see if anyone needs a guide. I only check “players helping players” for either scenario.
I’ve always understood “Community Creations” to be about things like CosPlay and great art and design-your-own-weapon and contests. Not about anything directly relevant to the game.
Me too, I would have not looked here for any guides, more like fan drawings, stories, that sort of thing.
“You didn’t understand a single thing that I wrote about if that’s your response. I never talked about an asset store, I never mentioned an asset store, what I mentioned was using copyrighted content within a consistent, online game that ArenaNet directly controls. That is FAR different than a platform that allows people to purchase user generated content for their own, personal, use.”
- What am i talking about since the begining ? My uncle joe’s bar ?Call me the day there will be more players submitting (notice the word: submit = controled) than there are developpers in the world.
There will not be more players submitting than there are developers in the world. I agree with you there. But there would be more players submitting than there are developers at Anet by a huge margin, and that is the data that is actually relevant here.
I understand having to drop it, but having to pick it up fast? You don’t have room to check out your surroundings, pretty pathetic.
That’s why people recommend clearing the route first, so you don’t have to worry about foes. That way, you can easily take time to drop & pick up the fish as you ‘land’ and right before you move again. (Slow & steady, if tedious.)
I know that. But the fish pops due to two factors: a) dropped on the ground for a little while, b) held for a little while. You must be dropping and grabbing it very fast, and it can be quite frustrating when you’re 80% of the way. IMO it shouldn’t be like this, but w/e… will have someone do it for me.
The most frustrating is when you are carrying the fish while using the trampolines. Seems to despawn the fish for no reason sometimes. I had a run last night where I made it past the annoying little jumps and lost it on the easy trampoline jump near the end. So frustrating.
Here is your asset stores not working because of a single item.

Try hard to tell me that we are still in 2005, and that the link lead to a fake site.
Try.
Hard.
Why? That link isn’t fake, and I am not trying to persecute you.
I would point out though that Unity is not a game, but a platform. Things available to game developers primarily, where the liability for using copyrighted matereal would fall on the developer. In a game store, the liability would be a lot higher because nothing more than the ratio of developers to players. Developers will be way more likely to follow the rules as their paycheck is on the line. Not to say it can’t be abused as your link indicates, but that it will be abused a lot more by players, most companies don’t want to deal with the hassle of licensing player content.
Again, before you go off in a huff once more, I am not saying this is a bad idea, I am pointing out that it isn’t a simple ‘win win’ situation, no matter how much you would like it to be.
EDIT – I saw your edit about the kitten thing. That is something the forum does, maybe that is making this confusing. In my original post replace the word kitten with your chosen word for the male sex organ. I was saying people would make low effort, meme type things if left to their own devices. Or steal content.

As annoying as Braham is with his whining, I actually don’t mind it as a character trait considering his age and what he went through (just reconnected with his mother then she is killed in front of him). What I do find upsetting is that the PC is forced to indulge his behavior. Like, I get it kid, you’re going through a rough time. I’m still going to speak up if you are acting rashly and endangering others with your recklessness.
That is the price of being the hero of the story … we have to act in a way consistent with the story as written, or it all falls apart. I liked the way The Secret World made me just another member of the group, and the leaders were NPCs.
Sure, I might hate the group direction, but I didn’t feel forced to accept it, and could take actions to disagree, etc, without breaking the whole story apart.

Do you want everyone wielding kitten swords? Because that’s how you end up with everyone wielding kitten swords!
How many bees can fit in a jar?
Depends on the size of the jar.
Edit:
Let’s say you are using a standard 16 fl. oz mason jar – seems fairly likely – if you’re going to want the bees alive, then you’ll need to place some combs in there for them to inhabit, that takes quite a bit of space, probably about 1/3rd of the space. Given this, the size of bee hives and number of bees per hive, you’re probably looking at – I’d guestimate – ~400 bees tops per jar (from what I’ve found you can apparently get an average of 1,000 bees on a 14×12 frame?).So 30,000 jars would be approximately 12,000,000 bees, not a real dent in a bee population across continental Tyria (or, I’d imagine, Kryta alone) (that’d be about 150 hives, as a single hive can have up to 70,000 bees, from what I’ve looked up?).
Edit 2:
Not sure why you’d think a jar of bees is a good adventuring tool though. I mean, they’re not going to make honey without going to flowers and coming back, a jar-sized hive is far too small to produce much honey. And if you’re intending to throw the jar at foes, well, bees only sting once… get jars of wasps for that stuff!
Imagine being the guy who has the job of filling up jars with wasps. I hope they get paid well!
Yes you can. As long as you have unlocked a living story chapter on your account you can start it any time you wish. It is a good idea if you play at all regularly to make sure to at least log on whenever a new living story chapter is released, as simply logging in will unlock that episode for free, forever.
EDIT: I realised that I misread and thought you were talking LS chapters. No one is really sure if the current events will last forever, but the trend so far has been to add to them, not remove them.

The problem with in-game jokes is that many players have not purchased a sense of humor (5000 gems) and have often gotten up and arms over it.
No kidding, I have seen people even complaining about SAB simply existing, as it is too silly and doesn’t fit the tone of the game. This is content that is self contained in it’s own instance that they can easily fully ignore, but they don’t like it so they complain that it is ruining the game.
The Aviator thing they put in was your character ran around with their arms spread out like airplane wings and made airplane sounds, you know like how little kids pretend. There was also a plane crash that happened right around the same time. Clearly the two were not related in any way, as Anet would have had to code the prank in and would have been working on it well before the crash occurred. But people looking for something to get offended at latched on and painted Anet as purposefully mocking the crash victims. After that, I can’t really blame them for not wanting to do a fun little thing for the community that just ends up getting them pad PR.
As other’s have said, after the aviator fiasco I suspect Anet doesn’t want to but out a bunch of work for a little joke just to have it thrown back in their face by people actively looking for thing to be offended by.
I really would like to have more voices.
Whats ten more voice actors?
It’d be 40 more voice actors, not ten. Ten for each supported language. It would be nice, but probably not going to happen in the foreseeable future.
I really wish Anet never added localized voice acting and instead gave every race 4 different English voices.
Almost everyone speaks English these days and for those who don’t they’d still have localized subtitles to help them out.
I think you are vastly underestimating how many people speak languages other than English.
I suspect part of the Flame Legion’s sexism comes from the real-world conundrum that a population that loses more males than females rebounds much faster than one that loses equal numbers of each (Assuming a single male is capable of impregnating multiple females), regardless of the physical and intellectual ability of the sexes.
Probably, as that is the logical root of sexism in real life. But since the other races (probably excepting the Sylvari due to their unique biology) and even the other Charr legions have been able to overcome this same inherent natural ‘bias’, it makes sense that they would look down on the Flame Legion for not being able to do the same.
Personally I can’t wait to log into the game, this patch seems so gooood!! Can’t wait to go play wvw as well XD
Yepp, awsome, alrdy spent 8000 gems on account name change (got it wrong 3 times, and love my guardian now!
That’s odd, for me it worked the first time, but when I went to check my email my credentials no longer worked, and now I can’t access it at all…
Choice 1 belongs in choice 3 otherwise it doubles up since it is temp festival content. It is no more or less its own entity than Halloween is
No mmo should sacrifice regular pve updates for festival content. That is just madness.
But because it has a potential for a rich story and it is vastly different than anything GW2 has, is why I think it deserves it’s own line
Poll is notably missing a Living Story Season 4 option.
It would fall under the 4th choice.
Anything has the potential for a rich story, whether that potential is realised or not is another matter. The SAB is no different than any other seasonal content in terms of how it is treated mechanically. While I do personally enjoy SAB quite a lot more than the others they are objectively in the same category. Your resistance to modifying your poll speaks more to your biases then the accuracy of the poll.
Huh, yeah I guess I see the problem. The rare colors all display as exotic for some reason on my monitor, I had to look closer at the actual item to see you are correct.
A small correction after checking my character: I used the runes that were already in the exotics and/or weapon. I don’t like painting a false picture in that regard!
I hope it works as it should: https://gw2efficiency.com/account/character/Marina%20Blatthauch/share. As the Vatlaaw parts indicate, I’ve switched to the budget Condi Druid since HoT but used whatever I already have had (and found afterwards) to use in a power setup with Caladbolg. Not gonna lie, your gear is astonishingly bad. Why don’t you get easy ascended trinkets from the new living world stuff and buy cheap exotic gear + sigils and runes on the trading post?
?
Are we looking at the same thing? Other than the rings, everything is Exotic or ascended.
@Chun: For having the same playing background as you i have the same opened eyes on what gw2 designers really are. It is in the nature of the weak to hide behind privileges and to exploit the misunderstandings that led to this social era of “facebook friends” where the notion of friend itself have been devaluated to a merchandise, sold to people who never risk themselves outside of their comfort zone, always playing by the rules they created, never exposing themselves to others rules, like we did countless times, and where they would be revealed for what they are.
We say what we do, and we do what we said. We lived as men. I salute you
I have no idea what you are trying to say. Can you clarify your thoughts?
That’s why the post is directed @Chun.
Now as for my thoughts, and because i can clarify for everyone that you think i’m affraid to do so, i think that GW2 designers should look at themselves before saying “git gud” to anyone first chance they get, because there are a few among us who can testify first hand what kind of frenzy/healing signet players they have been on the battle field.
I am honestly not trying to be a pain or troll you in any way, I just still don’t really follow what you are trying to say, my apologies.

SAB is an event that probably has a larger following than raids mainly since raids are still new.
Probably not. SAB has a very passionate and dedicated following; that doesn’t mean that it’s a lot more people.
I love raids way more than SAB but come on there’s no way raids have a larger following than SAB in GW2. You don’t even need to look at numbers for this, it’s just obvious.
Multiple big PvX guilds have over half their rosters in SAB. Big guilds like EVOS/SSC/TTS cancel their wurm/teqs etc because their guild members are in SAB. This never happens with a new raid wing.
It is time limited content. People are going to focus on that small time window before it closes.
I suspect/hope that we’ll get some action in the Black Citadel as we see things play out with Rytlok’s arrest. He was summoned by higher powers (Smodur?) to account for his new magic. Whether we’ll get to see a tribunal or not, who knows?
Oh right, I forgot about this. Thought it was just a minor thing to keep Rytlock away from the story.
It’s probably both, they wanted to focus on this part of the story that doesn’t have Rytlock in it, but they wanted to show us they haven’t forgotten him, and will be in the story again later.
Fractals provide better gear than dungeons (You can get ascended gear from them), but I think the real great places to get better gear is generally considered the temples in Orr, which sell them for Karma.
That said, I think Bladed Armor is accessible and has selectable stats (But you’d have to do T4 VB to get the chest plate), since as a new player you won’t have a lot of Karma saved up yet. I’ll have to check.
I find dungeons tedious and unrewarding for gearing for stats – their armor is mostly for the skins, not Exotic-level stats.
What is t4 vb?
Verdant Brink map events have a meta event that you contribute towards by participating in events on this map. There are various tiers to the meta, with increasing rewards for unlocking higher tiers. VB t4 means you need tier 4 of the meta event on Verdant Brink.
I’ll throw my support in on the put it in sliders / options side of things. People that created one can get all of the effects they worked hard to get, anyone annoyed can set it to not hear it. Win / win!
When you log , waypoint or use an Asuran gate, You go behind the scenes like at a theme park where there are lounges. and all sorts of amenities including bathrooms where you can take a break. While it seems only seconds betwwen screens is actually hours in the alt dimension.
Well, that explains the absurd length of some of these loading screens
.
I guess that means LA has the best VIP section. That map takes the longest for me to load, so there must be a lot back there distracting my character.
The “King of The Wild Frontier” used a rifle. You cant get any more Ranger than that.
So yeah, it’s pretty clear that this fantasy version of the ranger archetype would have issues with rifles, as something like a rifle could be seen as ‘unnatural’.
I see where you are coming from, and I agree that Rangers are definitely nature based. But I don’t agree that the rifle automatically is disqualified as unnatural. You have made a great case as to why that could be true, but I could easily picture nature based rangers using rifles and not feeling out of place with build theme. A lot of it would depend on the lore that builds out the new potential elite.
I know the reasons why I will never likely see them, but I would love to see the Tengu and / or Largos as playable. The tengu are a constant tease with their closed door to their lands right in Lion’s Arch, and the Largos we got to meet one member of their race, during the Zhaitan story, then nothing on them at all.
At the very least I would love some more explorable areas for the Tengu and Largos.
Of course. Magic does not equal divine influence. For humans, they see it through a lens of divine influence because their gods historically used the bloodstones to gate access to magic. To the Charr and Asura magic would be more like gravity or physics – inherent properties of the world to be studied and manipulated. The Norn have shamanistic outlook, so they would generally not be atheist. That leaves the Sylvari, whom don’t really have a well defined culture of their own yet.
I would say that of the races, Human and Norn would be the least likely to have many atheist members, Sylvari falling somewhere in the middle, and the Charr and Asura having the most atheist believers.
The Flame Legion is the exception here, not the norm. One of the reasons the other legions finally overthrew the Flame Legion was because they were fed up of Charr females being second class citizens. We see in the Black Citadel statues of female Charr heroes from those days, further indication that mainstream Charr society does not have the same hangups as the Flame Legion. We see Charr females in many positions of authority in mainstream Charr society as well.
Do you have a source for the bolded or did you make it up?
You want me to link you NCSoft revenue page?
That would show the bottom line numbers, NOT the source for any of your claims. They are not one and the same. You can infer information out of the numbers, but anything else is just speculation.
For example: Great Sword could be a Great Axe. I know it may not look well when holstered, but I think people wouldn’t mind.
Heh, people not mind a cosmetic clipping issue in GW2? There are tons of threads throughout the forums lamenting every minor cosmetic glitch.
The only thing you will be locked out of is season 1, that is no longer available to anybody, whether they played it when it was live or not. Otherwise, each episode of the seasons is automatically unlocked on an account as long as you log in while that episode is the current one. You don’t have to play the episode to unlock it, just log in while it is current. If you miss the free unlock you can purchase them individually in the gem store.
i am not suggesting she is lazarus because we don’t see her, i just want to know what she is up to. we know what all the rest of the guild is wasting time with.
even blaine in the well is sending us mail, why can’t she?
I get the feeling that Blaine has plenty of time on his hands down there, based on the contents of the letters. Kas probably has a busier schedule and can’t find the time to drop us a note.
Another thing to keep in mind for anyone struggling when they are new to HoT is that it gets a lot easier as you get more of the masteries, specifically the gliding ability that lets you glide without using energy. Verdant Brink used to be my least favorite of all the HoT maps because of the verticality, but now it is by far the easiest, ironically enough because of the verticality with gliding fully unlocked.
I know it takes time to get there, but the masteries end up making the jungle maps a lot more fun / doable.
It had it’s merits, but I prefer the newer system myself. The skippable part is nice, to be sure, but I personally find it flows better when it doesn’t cut to a talking close up. I like seeing where everyone is during a conversation, and how they move about while they talk rather than just the 2 people on the screen at once limitation.
Turrets don’t really actively draw aggro, however they do work as sort of a weak tank. If you drop some and put some distance between you, you can get mobs to attack the turrets instead of you, but they won’t hold aggro for long at all. Good for a quick break out for a heal burst but not too much else.
Has anyone tried using a rift stabilizer on the thing when it pops up? So far I haven’t been quick enough with my mouse to equip it and use the skill before it disappears
That’s a good idea. I already cured myself so I don’t see it anymore, or I would see what happens when you use the stabilizer.
Sea of Sorrows happens a good amount before GW2, the other two novels are set a few years before the game starts. Sea of Sorrows falls very roughly halfway between GW1 and GW2. As such, Sea of Sorrows events are already pretty old history by the time the game starts.
While giving out mastery points after earning lots of experience may trivialize them some, right now, gaining some number of them is also a trivial exercise, but may be in content one doesn’t want to play. And some are quite hard/time consuming – for the Central Tyria ones, there really isn’t any consistency.
The problem I have is that some are behind content I really don’t find that interesting – 8 or 9 are the second points for doing the story. Repeating the story multiple times to pick those up is anything but fun to me. An improvement there would just be make those achievements available on first play through – thus, I might actually pick them up if I play the story through on my other characters, but that doesn’t work right now. I noticed that they did make this change for LS3.
Forcing players into content they don’t want to play never really seems to work out. When the game first came out, one had to do the WvW maps for world completion, and people constantly complained that they really didn’t want to be forced to the WvW for what is mostly a PvE task. Arenanet did eventually change that.
I noticed last night while playing a second character through LS2 that there seems to be a way to get those additional achievement on the first pass, I managed to do it on a few chapters but not others. In the cases where I did get the additional ones, I noticed that I had ended up leaving the instance at some point and restarted it. Not that this addresses your issue, but there may be a workaround in there somewhere.
Sounds like there is something up. I know when I ran through I was honestly surprised I got the sneak way as one of the jades looked like it really should have noticed me. If you were actively trying and failing knowing the triggers like it sounds like you do then something may have changed.
It was a mini content patch they added a few weeks after head of the snake.
I don’t like the way Counter-Magic is used. I suppose it’s meant to be keybound, but I keep wanting to hover my mouse over it, expecting some sort of tooltip about what I’m supposed to be doing.
The counter magic tutorial was in the first episode, which explained that it reverses the effects of whatever you are countering. It’s a generic skill, so the tooltip isn’t going to help. In this case, it interrupts his shadowstep combo.
How are you supposed to know that if you don’t have time to look at stuff?
It’s always a no brainer move to use it if it is available. You don’t have to worry about any tradeoffs for cooldowns or any skill synergy weirdness. It is always a universally good thing whatever it does in context. It took me awhile to realize that, because I too was trying to read the tool tip.
I believe that there are some in-game globes depicting Tyria as a sphere.
Like the mile high decoration known as the globe of whispers.
They must be fakes, though. There are invisible walls all over the place that were built by the aliens to prevent us from falling off the edges of Tyria. Ain’t nobody can deny it.
I’ve seen those edges, they’re hard and cold and smooth like glass but they’re not glass! The government knows about it!
Legend has it that there are places in the world where you can fall through the fabric of reality itself and find yourself in a vast underworld ocean. Some say there are a few that know of these spots, but the powers that be keep them hidden.
