I don’t think ending the curse is admitting that magic is better than cold steel. The curse can only be ended by the shattering of Sohothin, a magic sword. It would seem more like he’s destroying the magic thkittening it, at least IMO.

so basically make-believe fights?

No, real fights over make-believe. The problem with something like this is only one person could’ve done it, but countless people actually did, like defeating Zhaitan or exploring the depths of the Ascalonian Catacombs to help Rytlock and Eir defeat Adelburn. Everyone’s done it, so the best way to recognize that is to pretend no one has done it.

Human Gods: Real or complete myth?

Morsus.5106

To the ants in my backyard, I could be a “god”. I rain destruction when I spray them with ant killer, but when I drop some food into the grass (by accident) I’m benevolent and sparing them from starvation. Does that make me a “god”? Maybe to the ants, but only to them. If the ants decided to ask me for food, or protection from the other ant colony and I oblige, they may proceed to worship me. All hail Morsus, he gave us enough food for years! All hail Morsus, he destroyed the fire ant mound!

That’s kind of how I see the Krytan gods. Are they really gods? Maybe. They are, however, physical beings that can be found and identified and also have immense power. They protected humans from the Charr (Spraying the ants with ant killer) and so we think of them as gods.

Every time “P2W” is called, a kitten gets kittened up the kitten with a stainless steel kitten. Just sayin’.

Typically, Pay to Win implies a significant power boost. Bonus skins, not a power boost. Legendaries? …eeeeh, slight power boost, also a very expensive one. I’m not shelling out close to $300 for one.

( By the way, refer to the always awesome Extra Credits: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mhz9OXy86a0 )

At the same time, making too many of the game’s exclusive items tradeable means that people are paying to skip content. People play to get the rewards they’re after, and/or the emotional fulfillment of the experience as they do so (which is also a reward). Removing play time by allowing content items to be purchased possibly reduces the chance that players will, well, play. Devs don’t necessarily want that.

Do I agree that the little bugs should be like that? Nope.
They don’t offer power, and there’s dozens of other skins in the game, not to mention it still requires some involvement to get the recipe, etc. Making those rare but tradeable isn’t such a bad thing. The devs should probably up the drop chance, since again, those items don’t provide power, only cosmetics, and that’s actually the kind of thing cash-shop games should be in the market of, anyway.

I think letting players trade stuff around is fine. Sure, they can pay to skip content, but that means they got money, or “tokens” somewhere else and are actually playing content.

GW was like that for armor. You had to collect certain mats and then take them to a Armorsmith and “craft” your armor. The only difference between armors was them being profession specific and the look. We did have to “farm” for the mats and for weapon skins.

Did they have a guaranteed drop?

The new insect skins have a token that is account bound that you find in a chest. That’s why it’s such a big deal this release.

Anet said they would be exclusive, compensating us for losing literally five, six years of accumulation. All the best armor and weapons, gone. All our money. Gone. We all had to start over, in a game we never really asked for.

It’s not really that much of a perk to be honest.

Why not keep playing Guild Wars then. It’s still there.

How about because Anet stopped upgrading it, stopped adding to it, stopped coming out with new content. Even I can only play the same stuff so many times.

However, I actually prefer Guild Wars 2 to Guild Wars 1. Which doesn’t mean I didn’t have to start over. And you know, if Anet did upgrade Guild Wars 1, if they hadn’t put it on life support many might still be playing it.

This was supposed to be a Guild War 1 upgrade. If it came out as an upgrade we’d still have everything we worked for.

I never played GW but they actually said this was an upgrade? I think the whole “2” in the name ought to tip people off this is a new game, not an upgrade. All your hard work is still there, you didn’t lose it.

It helps you survive plain and simple.

Read that back to yourself. It helps YOU survive. Berserker gear helps you dps quickly, improving the party survivability as you kill mobs faster.

True.

But what would be the difference in time it takes to kill lets say a pack of mobs if the guardian decided wear pvt over zerker? Does any one really know?

Oooh! ooh! I do! I do!

Why the double Standard on Silk?

in Crafting

Posted by: Morsus.5106

Morsus.5106

I just did the math real quick for ascended armor.

It’s about 546.21 gold for the light armor set if you do buy orders and craft everything. It’s about 10.5 gold more if you buy all materials outright and still craft everything.

It’s about 492.5 gold for the heavy armor set if you do buy orders and craft everything. It’s about 11 gold more if you buy all materials outright and still craft everything.

This is just only a 54 gold difference between the two sets or 9 gold per piece. The key is to craft the threads yourself

There is one important difference. You CAN harvest for heavy armor relatively easily, without the need for reaching for TP at all. You cannot do that for light armor. And THAT is the reason why one is much, much easier to craft than the other.

Yeah and light armor uses leather which is incredibly cheap. I believe all of the components were less than a silver a piece. It’s not that difficult to farm an additional 50 gold.

I only have 100 gold across my account. 50 gold is a lot to me.

b. Faster, so probably the best.
c. Probably not a good idea, but it could work.

I WAS exaggerating on purpose when I typed the quoted line….did you just not read my disclaimer? My message was that YOU flippantly insulted everyone that EVER did map clearing (you appear to NOT be aware that HEARTS are required to clear a map despite what the Devs say their purpose is) and I was contrasting your remark (maybe a bit too bluntly…but that TOO was on purpose).

I’m not sure if you are pretending to not see your original insult or if you truely do not feel it WAS insulting (because I’m obviously NOT the only one that took it that way).

Again, my intention was to show you how it felt to have your favorite content be-littled, NOT to actually be-little the content.

Maybe it’s just the caps, but you seem really worked up over this. I’m sorry for the misunderstanding, but the developers have stated in interviews that hearts play a supporting role to events. That’s all I meant by it. That they were a way of bridging the gap between “Kill 10 rats” quests and the dynamic events offered in GW2. If I had known that the one line would cause you so much trouble I would’ve worded it much more clearly.

You exaggerated both “messages” to fit your back-peddling claims. Good job.

My overall goal here was to show you what it felt like to have content you enjoy get be-littled in a flippant, backhanded way and I appear to have succeeded.

Peace out.

“Dungeons are for those that need some sort of validation as a ‘L33t’ player”
vs
“Dungeons for elitists who need to prove their skill to themselves.”

That one line Aline quoted suggests that you think people who do hearts are probably clueless or a little on the stupid side. Nobody likes to hear that (even if it might be true in some cases…). It’s just a matter of wording.

Okay, I’ll change that a bit for clarity. The developers have stated that those are meant to play a supporting role to events, and that’s all I meant by it. Thanks for being reasonable in pointing this out to me.

PVT is kind of selfish, but I guess it depends on what you want to be doing. If you plan on pulling all the mobs and using Hammer auto to tank it could be better than Berserker, but I’d still go Berserker is you can survive the initial attack from the mobs until your party catches up/draws aggro too.

I pretty much totally skipped out on hearts. Hearts are for people who need boring quests to help them find a goal. I suggest you try dungeons if you like group instances, try out commanding in WvW if you have the money on hand, try out SPvP, and give the other classes a try.

Totally skipped the Dungeons. Dungeons are for those that need some sort of validation as a “L33t” player or that have reached the point where earning gold is WHY they are playing a game….

(The above is a gross simplification and stereotyping done on purpose to show narrow-minded contrast to the quoted statement….felt I needed to add this disclaimer as this is NOT my personal feeling (ok…maybe a little) and I can sense the mentality of some posting here).

I’ll take five person group content over massive scale zergs or exploring (possibly in part due to my low settings.), but that’s just my opinion. What’s the problem with that? You don’t see me going around insulting your favorite thing to do in the game :/

However, you insulted other people who enjoy doing hearts. Better re-read what you write before you post it.

I did not insult people. I said hearts are for people who want quests. “Dungeons are for those that need some sort of validation as a ‘L33t’ player”. Huge difference there. Saying this is for someone who wants quests, and saying this is for someone who needs validation as a player are two different things. The devs have even said that the hearts are there to support the events. Whether you find that fact insulting is up to you, but no offense is meant in it.

I dunno. Sometimes it seems a bit petty to me that people won’t run dungeons with sub-80’s or that they request certain classes, when I’ve seen dungeons completed easily with 4-5 of the same class built a few different ways (especially SE). There’s a delicate balance and fine line when implementing something like this. For sub-80/new players it can make dungeoning in the game much harder and sometimes unbearable.

I could understand this more for a dungeon like Arah where a couple of its paths are extremely fickle on how to complete them in a reasonable amount of time. But for sub-80 dungeons, it seems a bit extreme.

When the game says “play how you want” I’m pretty sure it includes stuff like that.
