Will there be HoT World Completion Rewards?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Morsus.5106

How would people without expansion do it?

Doubt it.

1. The expansion is about the people who buy it. Not the people who don’t. You don’t make a film wondering how people who aren’t going to watch it will know the story.
2. They could separate it from regular map completion. 100% completion of the old world and 100% completion of Maguuma.

Wow. If you’d read the current defiance’s tooltip you’d see that you wrote a long post about a highly controversial topic for no reason.

Solutions to silk prices.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Morsus.5106

Why limit it to medium? If you implement a system like that, heavy should also have a chance to salvage into cloth, as it is required in the craft of it.

True, but it might bring too much silk into the market, and essentially crash it, causing prices to fall to vendor value again. Also that would mean that 100% of armor drops providing cloth, instead of 66%.

But all armor weights need silk, so why artificially limit it to only being obtainable from two of the armor weights?

Namely, Blind is now effectively GONE from dungeon running with the new break bar drinking it down as just another CC effect that does nothing to bosses.

Do you even know how the current defiance works? Unshakable makes Blind 10% as effective. It wasn’t used on bosses before, it won’t be used on bosses now. No leg has been kicked out from under the “Zerker Meta”.

Wow two heals..

And before anybody say anything about the Energy system, note it doesnt use much energy to cast heal, as the bar barely moved.

Not to mention it regenerates at 5 energy a second, meaning you can have a full bar in 20 seconds. Energy only seems like it will matter if you spam all your skills.

Character Slot for Heart of Thorns? [Merged]

In Guild Wars 1 Campaigns you received 2 free Character slots (total of 10 if you bought ‘em all) so it’s possible. It’s worth noting however, that Guild Wars Eye of the North, the only expansion for Guild Wars did not include a new character slot, though it did not include a class either.

Something like a two part skill challenge. For example, Warriors find a specific Hylek and challenge him and his students. You fight three enemies in the form of his students, then when they all die you fight the Hylek master.

1. Greatsword – I enjoy longswords, and Zojja’s Claymore with Ebonblade’s skin thrown on it is about as close as I can get.
2. Sword – Standard “brawler” type weapon, and fits thematically.
3. Shortbow – I’d say Rifle or Longbow, but Rifle doesn’t seem to fit with “ancient legends” and Longbow is something you’d have in the back line of fighters, not upfront like the Revenant will be.

What weapon you DONT-WANT? (Specialization)

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Morsus.5106

Morsus.5106

At first I really wanted Longbow or Shortbow for my Guardian, but I think both of those would just end up as an alternative to Scepter as a world boss weapon. Axes would be more likely to shake up the meta, so I’ll say no to Longbow Guardian.

I also don’t think Warriors would mix well with pistol. Dual pistols sound cool, but I don’t think they’ll go well with the heavy armor.

Elementalists and rifle or shield. They both seem like they don’t fit the ranged caster feel of the Elementalist. Pistols I could understand because they’re smaller and feel more agile, but Rifles make me think of slow, big damage snipers, which doesn’t seem to be their theme.

Is HOT going to fix condition stacking?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Morsus.5106

Morsus.5106

Stack limits are an hardware issue. Imagine two WvW blobs running into each other, you’ve got easily a hundred people duking it out, potentially hundreds of conditions being stacked up. The hardware simply couldn’t handle all that computation (or rather not efficiently), so they limited conditions stacks.
If ANet got more processing capacity, or found a cheaper way of doing the math we could see an increase in condition stacks. However I don’t see it happening soon though.

IIRC condition computations are really complicated atm, but there are definitely a few ways they could streamline it. For example, they could have a “meta” condition, such as when you have 25 bleeding stacks, the average damage and duration is calculated out and put onto a “Meta” condition. Then you effectively have a cap of 650 bleeding in PvE (25^2 for the “Meta” condi and 25 bleeding).

By people “hyping more” you mean “the retailers screaming they weren’t given industry norm advance warning and telling NCSoft to get stuffed because they aren’t juggling their shelves on short notice to display the rogue product”, right?

In my hypothetical/pipe dream “March 31st” release date, I was sort of assuming retailers had been notified far in advance.

[Discuss] Revenant Trait: Improved Aggression

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Morsus.5106

@Silalus While I doubt that ArenaNet is actually trying to establish a trinity, if they were to go about such a thing, they would likely add the Taunt ability to the new specializations and then there wouldn’t be a shortage. For example, Guardian!Specialization would inflict taunt when using Shield skills and Mesmer!Specialization would summon Phantasmal Defenders whose attacks inflict Taunt. However, I still doubt ArenaNet is going down the Tanking road, especially considering that either A) the tank is useless in all old content or all old content, dungeons in particular, are reworked to include this new role.

In the poI they seemed to be regaining energy pretty fast. I think you could gain 50% energy in 6-12 seconds. You just couldn’t spend it on anything else other than taunting.

You regain 5% energy per second, so 10 seconds. In theory, this could mean 100% uptime at the cost of only being able to autoattack.

…and this is why we showed all the things. Awesome job getting all the info dulfy.

Inspiring Reinforcement only on a 5 seconds cooldown with 6 seconds Stability? That would make this a Spammable Utility skill with infinate Stability pulses.

While the same skill on Guardian: Hallowed Grounds have a 80 seconds cooldown.

This is just crazy.

It also costs 25 energy, so you use up 1/4 of your resources to use it each time. If you want to attack with your weapon and use another utility, you’ll deplete most of your energy doing so.

From the quick look we got at the Revenant, energy seems to be more spammable than initiative though. We’ll have to see in the demo how balanced it really is.

Energy regenerates at 5 per second, so that’s effectively 5 seconds of cooldown plus 5 seconds of energy. You could spam it, but you would be in the red if you used any other skills. Still pretty spammable though.

Boxes of Leveling Armor?

So I was looking at the new recipes for the leveling armor and sinister armor on the wiki, and noticed there was nothing about making a box of armor. Most likely Human. I don’t know why, but I enjoy playing as humans in fantasy RPGs. Not sure if it’ll be a male or not. My current main is already male, so it seems uncreative to basically copy my old main onto the Revenent, but making someone of the opposite gender always strikes me as kinda perv-y, especially when the majority of female armor borderlines skimpy.

This allows the Tanking role to be more effective and useful to the group.

Forgive me if I’m not all that excited for a return to the trinity system.

Drama queen…

Taunt as they describe it is no different from Fear, other than the direction it makes you run.

I’m commenting on his interpretation, not my own. Personally I think taunt will just be another abused mechanic on Skyhammer. If someone tries tanking with it they’ll fail miserably, because while it does pull all enemies towards you that’s pretty much all it does. We’ve had pulls since launch and they never resulted in the trinity system.

Why do people have the misguided opinion that Taunt is for tanking and not simply a control/positioning effect. You don’t even need to have tanky gear; cast taunt and kite or dodge the attack and you don’t even need to worry about the damage.

Because people still haven’t gotten out of the WoW mindset. Same reason my first full set of exotics was Soldier/Knights because I thought it would allow me to tank.
