History indicates that an expansion will satisfy players. 2 classes, 1 new continent, and a few hundred new skills. ANet used to churn those out yearly, but for whatever reason they decided to do a Living Story instead.

Let’s say there are some fields that kids like to play on, and Marty wants to play Soccer (football for those of you outside the US). The sign outside the fields says that you can play whatever you want, and so Marty goes over to the kids playing baseball and says that they should all play soccer. The kids tell him that they don’t want to play soccer, they want to play baseball. There are some kids a few fields over playing soccer, but instead of going and playing with them, or finding some other kids to play soccer with, he keeps arguing with the kids who want to play baseball. “The sign says I can play what I want, and I want to play soccer!” He tells the other children, and so the other children ignore him and go back to their game of baseball. Marty tries to play soccer on the same field as the children playing baseball and runs into another child. The children kick him off of the field they’re playing on, and go back to their game. Instead of going and playing soccer with the children who are still playing soccer, he goes to the parents, and tells them how the other children are bullying him and excluding him. The parents scold their children for excluding poor Marty. Marty still isn’t satisfied, and demands that the parents make their children play soccer with him. What do you think the parents are going to do?

My only issue is ascended gear. Not that it exists. Not that there is horizontal gear progression. My only gripe is that the only way to obtain the weapons and armor is through RNG or crafting.

See, I have played WoW, Rift, Tera, LoTRO, Aion, and never, have I ever enjoyed crafting. I hate it. I think its boring. I think its tedious.

And those of us with 500 crafting would love to sell it to you at a seriously inflated price.

PvE players demanding, impossible to satisfy

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Morsus.5106

Morsus.5106

The problem was Anet was able to satisfy them with the original Guild Wars. New classes, new continents, new skills, etc. The original Guild Wars released in 2005, and then we got two expansions in 2006. The problem is less the players demanding too much, and more ArenaNet no longer being able to keep up with demand.

Since ArenaNet opted to make the Living Story in place of an expansion, the Living Story needs to deliver the same quantity and quality content that an expansion would deliver. Unfortunately, the Living Story hasn’t been able to accomplish this, resulting in players demanding more content. To say that the players are just demanding too much is a little naive in my opinion, since there demand is based on what ArenaNet produced in the past.

I’m not opposed, but understand that the keys are probably a pretty decent chunk of their revenue, so the laurel cost would probably be a bit steep (like 5+ per key)

I felt like it was almost too long. I enjoyed fights like the one at the end of SE story, but this one didn’t feel challenging. The AoEs weren’t all that fun and the flying portion felt like it just had temporary invulnerability. It was better than the more mindless stuff, but it was still a pretty mindless fight.

Also, all accounts are equal. One account is no luckier than another.

Why work my way up to harder content if it won’t even improve my chances?

- Could you explain what you mean by “working your way up” to “harder content”?

I’ll give you an example with dungeons:
Spend ~1 hour with a pug in Arah: 3.26 gold, 60 Arah tokens.
Spend ~1 hour with pugs in SE P1+P3 and CoF P1: 3.78 gold, 120 SE tokens, 60 CoF tokens.
Rewards don’t get better as the content gets harder. That’s a problem.

It’s also possible to level grinding mobs. Just because it’s possible, doesn’t mean it’s a good idea.

If farming isn’t the intended way to play the game, why does Anet keep building rewards around who farms the most?

Only one reward is based around who farms the most – legendaries.

You’re forgetting ascended equipment. And cool skins. And exotic’s if you want the dungeon set. And exotics if you want to craft them (30 T6’s for the armor). And even if you don’t grind the mats for the items, you have to grind the gold. The only rewards unrelated to doing the same task over and over are some titles and the story instance rewards.

True. Could be a type of enchanter class, using heavy armor. I’d like to see more healing availability then though. Ritualist healer in GW1 was really fun.

As much as I like healing, I don’t want Ritualist to be the next class everyone kicks from their party because all it brings are heals. If healing is just an option, then sure, let it be a “healer”, but since the game wasn’t set up for having a “healer” let it do something else too.

Full Zerkers ONLY!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Morsus.5106

Morsus.5106

Since GW2 is skill based, there will always be a group who consider them skill enough to run the content with all Berserker gear. It’s best to keep it where the Average Joe can run Berserker and the only thing holding him back is personal choice.

Let’s say A. Joe wants to run Citadel of Flame. Joe opens up his LFG and looks around seeing a bunch of “Berserker Only” LFGs. He asks why and is told that this is the fastest way of getting rewards. He decides to save up his gold and get Berserker gear, runs dungeons in all berserker, and gets his rewards. He accomplishes this and is now a “zerker elitist” earning his rewards.

Now, let’s say A. Joe wants to run Citadel of Flame after ANet makes some major changes to the system. He opens up his LFG and looks around seeing a bunch of “Berserker Only” LFGs. He asks why and is told that this is the fastest way of getting rewards. He decides to save up his gold and get Berserker gear, and once he’s acquired it runs CoF. Unfortunately, every time he goes to fight an enemy he gets killed, and after this happens a bunch, his group gets sick of carrying him and kicks him. He can’t meet the skill requirement to run a full berserker and has now wasted his time and gold.

It really comes down to this: Do you want to be locked out of someone else’s group because you disagree with their play-style, or because you can’t play as well as you need to? Either way, there will be berserker only groups.

The events are designed for a group. If you have a commander tag, tag up and players will flock to you.

CDI-Guilds- Raiding

Proposal Overview
Guild overflows and zones like Silverwastes

After playing in The Silverwastes for a few hours it struck me just how raid-like the content was. It required large groups of players to coordinate and to work towards the shared goal of defeating a common enemy to acquire specific rewards. My suggestion, is to allow a guild the option of “owning” an overflow. A high ranking guild member decides to open the server and a pop-up is sent to all online guild members not currently in an instance (dungeon or story instance) asking if they would like to go to the server. If they guild can meet a specific percentage of the player cap for that map then they are given their own overflow and all members are taken to the map. If they don’t, then they are denied their own server and the pop-up disappears. If the map is created successfully, players can also invite party members to join.

Goal of Proposal
To introduce new maps in the style of the Silverwastes and give guilds an option of turning the map into their own raid.

Proposal Functionality
This would be similar to Guild Wars 1’s server system, but on a larger scale and only with select maps. The amount of required players prevents unnecessary overflows, and the option to include party members allows guilds to open the instanced map to other players looking for a coordinated raid.

Associated Risks
The risks include guilds opening instances and then not using them, wasting server resources. The other risks include the depopulization of regular zones leaving some players in empty zones.

“S2 hurtles toward an unforgettable end”

To me that says we’ll have another short block like part 1 and then that will be it for Season 2, anyone else find that? Maybe… S2 will end just after the new year then… EXPANSION?!?!?!? Well we can dream anyway lol

Yup that’s pretty much what is going to happen at the end of S2 I bet. I hope (like S1) the last 4 or so episodes are the best. After that, it is very unlikely we will be seeing an expansion, but probably another few months of nothing and we will be seeing season 3 starting.

And then 4 episodes, then months of waiting, then 4 episodes then season 4.

I’m sorry but this game is too amazing to not have any endgame content.
Fractals and playing dress up isnt end game content.
The game was great, until I hit 80….now its boring, nothing to do.
I love crafting in any mmo, I usually horde mats and such. GW2 theres no reason to, why waste my time when all crafting is for is the nicest gear, but there is no reason to have it unless you want to run a 5-man fractal (5 MAN!?, might as well call it an expert dungeon)
There are too many games out there that have everything gw2 has and much more.
Devs need to figure out a way to keep people engaged at 80, fractals and playing barbie dress up is not it.
WE NEED RAIDS!

As long as Agony Resistance is the way you progress, I’m okay with it. I don’t want to be able to come back to Arah in Tier 76 gear and one shot all the enemies. IMO Agony Resistance is a good balance between grinding for stats and a lack of stat grind.

You only need 70 Agony resistance at 50. All u really need it a full ascended, I am sure alot of the true gamer already meet the requirement.

So? The goal wasn’t to have a gear grind. Raids themselves aren’t a bad idea, but gear grind is imo.

Anet: It's time to move to paid expansions

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Morsus.5106

Morsus.5106

Let’s say Anet adds the Dervish class to the game tomorrow and only that. Would that really add anything to the game? You’re still experiencing the same content but with a different play-style. You’re telling me that running AC or CoF for the 1.000th time will be different as a new class?

When I first got the game I stuck to the starting human zones. I had less than 20% map completion, and had never been to Orr. Once I started exploring a little more, I resolved never to go back to Queensdale because after clocking in an ungodly number of hours there I never wanted to see it again. I then tried leveling a Warrior on the XP train that used to run through there. It only reinforced my feelings for the zone and made me want to get out of it. Then a few days ago I decided to make a Human Thief. I actually enjoyed mapping Queensdale again with a new play style. If a new play style rejuvenated this zone, I think that a new play style could rejuvenate the game for players that have exhausted all the current play styles that they like.
