How does Taunt bring back the trinity system when it’s a CC to make you attack your allies (it’s the opposite of fear)

So because you start hitting your teammates you suddenly need a tank / trinity? :/

IMO it’s much more interesting to see how it will be used against bosses with big attacks. Instead of dodging Kohler’s attack, someone Taunt’s him and then we go back DPSing him down.

Forgive me if I’m not all that excited for a return to the trinity system.

why is player to player trading considered bad? I thought that was a part of MMos

Players are allowed to trade, they just aren’t allowed to use the LFG as a form of free advertising. The LFG is specifically designed for players to find other players for Dungeons, Story Instances, and Open World Content. It would be the equivalent of going onto a dating site and trying to sell a TV. While nothing is wrong with selling the TV, the dating site should and will take down your advertisement.

Two Problems I Have on the Mastery System

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Morsus.5106

Morsus.5106

Problem 1: It’s Completely Expansion Exclusive
Negative Incentive: Why Not to Make Masteries Expansion Exclusive

TL;DR, The masteries associated with the core game should not be locked behind the expansion, but given to any owner of Guild Wars 2. This functions as both an incentive to get the expansion for the cooler Heart of Thorns part, and a way to keep the community together even when it “splits” over the expansion.

So WoW should give the level cap increase to everyone?

Has the meta always been this bland?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Morsus.5106

Morsus.5106

This worries me because it seems like there is very little distinction between the classes aside from buffs. Necromancers don’t use pets and don’t attack from ranged, rangers don’t use range, Guardians and warriors don’t build “bruiser-like” (partially tanky) in order to absorb hits, and in general classes just wear the same type of gear, completely 100% glass cannon.

The most efficient way of getting an enemies health to 0 and clearing the dungeon is to run glass cannon. Defense in this game isn’t needed at medium-ish skill levels. If enemies started hitting harder, players would just get better and go back to speed clearing in max-damage gear.

The simple solution to your problem is don’t play meta. If you don’t like the meta, then just make your own “All welcome” group. Nothing is stopping you from playing the way you want to in this game, and so complaining about the way other players play just wastes your time.

They won’t get the new class, they won’t get to go to the new Maguuma Jungle zones, they won’t get masteries (confirmed yesterday). They probably won’t get to go into Guild Halls or play GvG, and the new WvW map is anyone’s guess. Most likely you’ll get a Willy Wonka

1. That would be unfair for those that bought the expansion, since non-expansion players would have more SP sources, this is kind of a no-win scenario, it will be unfair either way.
2.Each of those examples were self-contained stories, with a resolution that are, though, part of a greater whole. We had no real ending on the second season. Season one ended with the death of the main antagonist for that part, and at least some resolution. On this one we ended with only questions. We didn’t stop any threat, we didn’t get the egg, we don’t know where Caithe is, we really don’t know what happened to Logan, Treherne, etc. There’s no ending there, only a cliffhanger. Which is why it bothers me. If the ending had been Season 1’s, then wouldn’t feel as bad, since Scarlet was dead, sure LA was in Ruins and we “heard the dragon” but that would simply be the link for the new story, the “Scarlet Arc” was done with. Here you’re just having a carrot dangled in front of you.
3. I could just about list a couple dozen MMOs where you don’t purchase new content. But will i bother? No.

1. I’ll concede this. Either way, there will be a change that is slightly negative towards one player base. It’s not really a big deal though.
2. A good cliffhanger has no resolution. That is the definition of a cliffhanger. Just because a story ends in a cliffhanger does not entitle you to the next part for free.
3. And I could list a couple dozen MMOs where you do purchase the new content. (But will I bother? No.) ArenaNet never said players who bought the base game would get all of the future expansions for free. Don’t act like anyone is being ripped off, because they aren’t. Guild Wars 2 doesn’t have a sub-fee, so to expect all future content to be free of charge is very naive.

Here comes the "gear" treadmill.

Thing is, its not just not getting new stuff, they’ll still get Sp taken away from them. Atm there’s still too much alck of information, but already it seems that there’s too much “buy it or lose” it around this expansion. It all seems to point that people will miss out on the conclusion of the LS cliffhanger without the expansion. Now on Skill Points. It just seems to pile on stuff that “forces” people to buy it or leave themselves kitten. (As if not getting the new stuff wasn’t enough of a handicap).
I’m really not speaking for myself, unless a disaster strikes i’ll be on the forefront to purchasing it, but just the principle of the thing kinda Irks me.

1. We don’t know that players who don’t buy the expansion will have their Skill points on level up taken away. You’re basing this all on speculation.
2. Well what would you do about the cliffhanger ending? Everyone who bought Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (or saw it in theaters) did not get a free copy of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, they had to buy the next part of the story. Those who went to see Captain America: First Avenger did not get a free ticket to see Marvel’s The Avengers. Just because there’s a cliffhanger ending doesn’t mean you are entitled to see the next part of the story for free.
3. The “new stuff” is reserved for those who paid for it. With the exception of Eve Online most MMOs require you to purchase the new content to play it. You are not entitled to get the new content that the developers have made just because you bought the base game.

What really worries me is a small throwaway line in “Fractal masteries” description about unlocking “more powerful infusions”.
I thought we weren’t supposed to get any gear creep…

Indeed.

But it could be something along the lines of “Add +10 stats (only active in Fractals)” I would say.

Or simply: “Do x% more damage against enemies in Fractals” like the WvW specific Infusions.

Or it could be infusions like +10 Agony Resistance for armor/weapons.

Morsus.5106

This is what it says. It says nothing about half for each. So my question stands. What happens to those without the expansion?

They probably don’t get masteries because they didn’t buy access to the expansion. If you didn’t have to buy the expansion to get the cool stuff, no one would buy it. AFAIK you couldn’t play to the new level cap in WoW or SWTOR without buy the expansion, so here you won’t get to continue progressing unless you buy the expansion. It’s pretty standard fare for MMOs I thought.

Morsus.5106

My big questions, are
1) Will we be able to unlock all of the mastery tiers, and how easy/hard would it be? Will it be like trying to get all the World versus World WXP abilities?
2) Will we be allowed to relocate Mastery points, or will they be a permanent choice like Skill Points?
3) Are the points account bound, or are the upgrades account bound? For example, will they be like the WXP abilities or once spent will they be allocated in that manner for all characters?

Locked behind Expansion

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Morsus.5106

Morsus.5106

I think that most of everything will be locked behind the expansion. The Revenant is going to be locked, Guild Halls will probably be locked to the members who’ve purchased the expansion, and you will probably only be allowed to allocate mastery points if you have the expansion. Specializations might be locked, but I don’t think the WvW map will be locked. IMO if the point of an expansion is to expand the game, most of the actual content will be in the expansion. I don’t know why it is a divisive issue over what’s fair to lock behind the expansion.

Prolonged periods of not moving and not attacking at events equals leeching, whether you’re actually sitting at your keyboard or not.

Yup. This is especially true during Silverwastes and events like Tequatl. I have friends looking for an open server, and you’re wasting your slot on the overflow. If you’re TPing, RPing, etc. please do the polite thing and go to a different overflow and allow someone else to take part in the event at hand. It would be like going to a sold out movie and then spend the whole time ignoring the movie and playing on your phone.

My guesses for some Specializations.

First one is obvious.

  • Necromancer/Deathknight – Uses Greatswords to slaughter enemies, and applies lots of crowd control.

Second one is mostly speculation, but makes sense to me. Devs have been trying to get Guardians into a more offensive place (Litany of Wrath for example.)

  • Guardian/Crusader – Uses Longbows as its new weapon, and applies protection and aegis to allies from afar. Applies might and fury to him/herself and allies.

A little far fetched, but I can see the pact training Elementalists into hardened soldiers for dealing with Mordremoth’s minions.

  • Elementalist/Battlemage – Uses swords as its new weapon. It imbues allies with the power of the elements.
