Am I really the only one who only sees our levels as a number that shows our experience with that particular character?

If I am level 80 I should be able to down everything in a lower level area, not because of my damage numbers being higher, but because I have way more experience with that profession than I did earlier on.

How exactly am I supposed to feel powerful in any way shape or form, if the thing that makes me able to go through a low level zone simply is a number next to my name, rather than my actual skill as a player?
I don’t want my hands held to take down the mobs. I want to use my hands to smash them to the ground.

And why would you, as a high level character, go to a low level area if you aren’t rewarded or challenged?

If there is an area I haven’t explored and a friend of mine is there and asks if I can help him, why should I be able to do all of the work for him in no time, when instead both of us could work together as a group, have fun and be equally rewarded for the content being completed?

Your top 10 favourite zones?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Naus the Gobbo.5172

Hello.

As I am leveling up an alt trying to get 100% world completion for the second time I keep running into zones I remember but never really looked at during the time I did it on my main character.

Some zones seem way more beautiful than I remember them, and I constantly find new things I never saw before.

And this makes me curious: What are your top 10 favourite zones in GWII?
By “favourite” I mean in terms of the look and feel of a zone, not the way it was designed in terms of quests, dynamic events etc.

Here is my list:
1.Wayfarer Foothills.
2. Queensdale.
3. Diessa Plateau.
4. Gendarran Fiels.
5. Bloodtide Coast.
6. Caledon Forest.
7. Timberline Falls.
8. Iron Marches.
9. Cursed Shore.
10. Southsun Cove.

New Races in the future?

I really hope for the Hylek to become a playable race.
They are the least humanoid-like race I have seen in GWII, and I am getting pretty tired of the fact that all races in games have to be a re-skinned humans with a few different facial features, or a slightly different body.

I want something truly unique, and that is why I love the Hylek.

Unfortunately hylek not being playable is the reason they were able to make them so unique.

Don’t ever crush my dreams. EVER!

We have to purchase a kit from the Gem Store in order to use custom arenas?

I’m not quite sure how I feel about this.

It’s not giving unfair advantages in any way, but I think they are shooting themselves in the knee by not adding it as a free feature, since costumizable arenas in spectator mode could greatly boost GWII’s reputation.

GW2 is much more restrictive when it comes to that though, at least when I stopped playing WoW you could write almost everything in chat that would get you a ban in GW2.

Blizzard refuses to ban people in WoW because of the subscription fee. If they banned players they would make less money.
Some people in WoW have deliberatly been trying to see how far they can go without getting a ban, and nothing has happened to them. Wintraders, exploiters, hackers, bots etc. Nothing will happen to them, cus even though they ruin the game for other people, they still pay a subscription fee. I even remember some people spamming the general chat saying that the kids who were shot at a school(I can’t remember the date or the school) deserved it, and nothing happened to those people. Even though there were big threads on the WoW forums about it Blizzard did nothing, just like they ignore everything else as long as they get their money.

You don’t pay a subscription fee for GWII, so ArenaNet wants to keep their product as “clean” as possible. Cheaters, exploiters and likewise will be banned because they ruin the game for other people.

And that’s how it should be, even if there was a subscription fee. No company should be so greedy that they will allow cheating or cyber-bullying.

How do YOU play GW2?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Q: “How much do you play?
A: As much as I feel like and am able to within my schedules.

Q: “What motivates you to play?
A: The fact that I am rewarded for playing the game the way I actually want to play it, be it exploring, crafting, doing quests or PvPing.
The fact that I am properly challenged in the open world even if I am max level and go to a low level zone.
The fact that there is always something for me to actually do ingame, even if 90% of it is stuff I don’t feel like doing at that moment.

Q:“What attracted you to this game over other MMOs?
A: I could give you a very long list, but I’ll just give you some of the basics:
No subscription.
A living world.
No gear treadmill.
Upleveling to max level and instant access to best-in-slot gear in sPvP.
Being properly challenged in the open world.
Being properly rewarded for playing the game the way I actually want to play it.
The graphics.
The ridicolously long list of innovations ArenaNet has made to the MMO genre.
The animations.
Having most of the content available to me at level 2.
The music.
The voice acting.

Q: “How often do you play with and interact with other players?
A: Whenever I feel like it, or when my guild talks to me. I like to play MMOs as 50% single player and 50% multiplayer

Q: “Are most of your friends people you know from in game, or from real life?
A: Everyone I play with ingame are people I met through GWII. For some reason most of my IRL friends either aren’t interested in GWII, or simply just want to play WoW.

Q:“What do you do with your time in game?
A: Whatever I feel like. Be it leveling up my alts, exploring the world, crafting, PvPing or anything else really.

They are big, and full of details, and.. no reason to ever look at anything twice save the craft stations and banker/trader.

So much wasted opportunity. So many meaningless NPCs.

I get that Anet thinks they needed to totally abandon anything but the DE, but, these huge detail and NPC filled cities are crying for a few exploration, fetch, and information questlines, if only to encourage people to find all of the neat stuff created by the Art people.

Whether or not the cities are “wasted opportunity” really depends on what they were designed to be.
They certainly would be failures if ArenaNet meant for people to concistently visit them.
But perhaps they were just designed to be places to explore, give you decent places to roleplay, or simply to make the world feel more alive from an aesthetic point of view.

But either way it is a design philosophy that I never really understood. Lion’s Arch is no different than any of the other cities, so why is it designed to be the main city? Why not have all of those features available in all majore cities so people have the option to choose where to go to, rater than being forced to be in one specific location.

I enjoy GWII more than any other game I have ever played due to three reasons: freedom, PvP and the story.

I can literally do whatever I want to do and be rewarded for it.

Being upleveled to max level and instand access to best-in-slot gear? I ask for no more than that.

And as far as the story goes, I have never felt more connected to my character than when I do my personal story.

Hello.

I accidently bought the wrong Super skin and I was wondering if it is possible to get a refund.

I have been doing the SAB since the first of April and have really been looking forward to getting the skin for the Super Staff, but I just got my last Bauble Bauble and I was so excited to be able to get the staff that I accidently clicked on the wrong item and didn’t properly check the name of the item I bought.

So, is it possible to get a refund?
Of course it wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world if it’s not possible, since I can buy it on the Trade Post, but money is hard for me to come by in GWII, not that that makes any difference.

Experiencing the World

Naus the Gobbo.5172

Sinifair, I read your post and I agree with you that the lore can be difficult to catch on to at first, but there are a few things I would like to point out for you:

1. A. In WoW you are forced to level the way the devs want you to. You are not allowed to level the way you personally prefer while being equally rewarded as everyone else.
I will not go into detail about this, cus if you truly have played WoW you know exactly what I am talking about.

1. B. In GWII there is a massive difference. You can level the way you prefer.
Do you want to level up just by exploring? You can do that.
Do you want to level up just by doing PvP? You can do that in World vs. World.
Do you want to level up a bit just by crafting? You can do that.
Do you want to level up just by doing quests/hearts/dynamic events? You can do that.

2. A. GWII is supposed to be a completely different experience than other MMOs, so you have to do away with the usual leveling mentality.
2. B. WoW is really outdated and the devs are too stubborn and ignorant to put in ANY time and effort to change the leveling system for the better. Greg Street even said in an interview(I don’t have a link to it unfortunately, but I read it on MMO-Champion a few monts ago) that if they didn’t force people to go out into the world, then they simply wouldn’t do it.

3. GWII is not your standard MMO in any aspect, it will take a lot of time before the majority get used to how the lore is presented in this game, especially if they don’t pay attention to the dialogues in the personal story or what NPCs around the world say.

Actually I prefer the way ArenaNet has gone about with the lore in GWII. It is not showed in my face, if I am interested in it all I have to do is pay attention to what happens around me.

So, here are the guidelines:
1. Post a screenshot of a vista you have found in the world without anything pointing you in that direction.
2. Give us a small direction as to where you found it. But don’t give too much away.

Here is mine:

I found it in the eastern part of Fields of Ruin.

Guild Wars 2 and WoW

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Naus the Gobbo.5172

Im bored at work and its been awhile since i have seen this topic discussed, figured some people could give their 2 cents. I have a friend who hates gw2 so much and thinks wow is infinitely better. It would appear gw is still growing past 3 mil and wow is starting the drop under 10 mil and was just wondering what people thought regarding april fools. I think gw owned every mmo out there and wow took a big hit this year for april fools. Sab has got to be the most creative thing ive seen introduced into an mmo and i finally respect a dev of an mmo.

I think that ArenaNet has created the most hillarious content for Easter. It was incredibly creative and well executed.
But if I compare it to the content we got for Halloween or Winter I will have to say I dislike it. At Halloween and Winter we got content that was presented in the actual world, and not in an instance. The world felt much more alive during those events.

In WoW you get the exact same events year after year, nothing has been improved or changed over the past 8 years. All Blizzard has done was adding a recycled mount or pet to the events.
That said, I really like the holiday events in WoW because every single holiday event is present within the actual world. And I especially love Brewfest, Noblegarden, Midsummer Festival and Children’s Week.

But overall I like the holiday events in GWII an awful lot more than those in WoW, because not only are they creative and offer a sense of immersion, but they are varied in so many aspects.
There is content within the actual world – both in the majore cities and the living world, there are dungeons and jumping puzzles.

I quit WoW when GWII was released so I apologize if the holiday events in WoW have changed since then, but this is how it was throughout the 6 years I played WoW.

The story is so dull it doesn’t get emotion out of a little kid, let alone a grown man.

If you are talking about dynamic events: The only thing that keeps me from getting emotional about them is the fact that some of them reset too quickly for me to feel that I had an impact on the zone.
But that’s only in certain areas with certain events, for example the Frozen Maw, The Destroyer, some escort events and some of the events where a bridge has been destroyed.

If you are talking about renowned heart quests: I actually do get emotional with renowned hearts, because when I talk to the NPCs they first ask me to do certain things, but once I have done them they thank me and no longer need my aid. That also goes for the scouts that tell you where to go.They don’t need me to collect bearbutts or cactus apples anymore, because I have already helped them. That makes me emotional due to a sense of impact.

If you are talking about the personal story: I actually do get emotional during the personal story. I got quite attached to the characters that were present in my personal story. In fact I look back at them with rose tinted goggles sometimes.
Just reading the chapters in the my story panel makes me smile and laugh.

Perhaps you don’t enjoy the story, but I do. And I am sure a lot of other people do.

And overall I feel way more connected to the world in GWII than I have felt in any other game.

I dont remember where it was, but in a small town I ran into a building, up the stairs and walked into a bedroom and there is a Priestess in the room and a guy and a girl standing on the bed wearing bandages. I’m like: Ok…

Isn’t that in Fort Salma in Kessex Hills?

On topic:

I really like how there sometimes are special weather effects during dynamic events.
And how my character’s posture changes depending on the surface.
I also quite like how the music changes depending on so many things. For example, if I remember correctly, if you enter combat in Kryta you get different combat music than you get if you enter combat in Ascalon. And it also changes if there is a dynamic event going on.

So, I usually don’t make posts like this on any website, but I have been playing GWII since the 28th of August and I have never had a negative experience with another player, not even in PvP, in fact I often make friends with my opponents in PvP. I have only had good experiences playing with other people in GWII but a few minutes ago I had an experience that topped all of them.

So let me tell you what happened:

I was in Rata Sum trying to find a group for the new dungeons(which I find incredibly entertaining) and suddenly a level 2 Asura walked into the crowd of people standing in front of the Super Adventure Box.
He asked if someone could tell him where the bank in Rata Sum was, and since no one else gave him an answer I decided to help him, so I told him to follow me and when we got to the bank he whispered me and said thanks. I replied:“No problem mate.”, and then he disappeared.
I then went up to the Super Adventure Box again and noticed that I had recieved a mail.

I don’t wanna give too much away in text, cus I think you should see what happened.

Point of this thread: Be kind to other people.

I guess ill stick it out to at least 30 and see if it gets any better….I mean thus far the pve element is beyond easy…I thought WoW was bad.

I will try my first dungeon experience and see if I like it, if not I think ill probably move on. I play MMOs for the social experience, and I can honestly say this is the most linear, socially inept game Ive ever played, there is literally no need to communicate or cooperate.

Not that its your guys fault though , I really do appreciate all these comments and suggestions, and I will be sure to try them out.

You really shouldn’t compare GWII to WoW. Although both of them are MMOs, they are nothing like each other.

As far as the difficulty PvE, it really depends on how you play your profession.
But you might want to try Orr, or Dredgehaunt Cliffs.

Unfortunately there will always be zones that are underpopulated.

I play on a high population realm and I rarely see other players in Metrica Province, Brisbane Wildlands, Caledon Forest, Harathi Hinterlands or Snowden Drifts.

And I really don’t blame people for not visiting those areas, cus in my opinion they are rather boring and plain.

As far as the game being anti-social, it really depends on how you look at it.
Cus the combat system is designed so that each player can take care of him/herself without the aid of someone else, and since there is no mob-tagging you can just run along with other people, have fun and help each other, but without nessecarily be talking to each other.

But when you find other people and chat with them you tend to make friends very quickly, at least that’s how it goes for me.

I have played GWII since the 28th of August and I have never had a negative experience with another player. I haven’t even met any rude people in PvP, but perhaps that’s just me being lucky.

This game isn't for you...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Naus the Gobbo.5172

Naus the Gobbo.5172

This game is for me because:

1. I don’t want to pay a subscription fee in order to play a game.
2. I love exploring and being rewarded for it. If I want to just walk around at my own phase and take in the beauty of this wonderful world I should be able to do so without feeling like I am wasting my time. And in GWII I never feel like I am wasting my time just walking around exploring.
3. I like being challenged, even just a tiny bit. I am crazy about the fact that even at max level I can get my butt kicked in a starting area if I am not paying attention.
4. I like simplicity. The UI/weapon skill system in GWII was a little confusing to me at first, but once I figured out how it worked I was amazed. I can’t recall how many times I have been confused in games because there are so many abilities on my screen that I need to manage.
5. I like casual PvP. In GWII I just have to build my character smartly in order to function properly. I don’t have to grind for weeks in order to be able to compete. I am not talking about balance in any way, I PvP way to little in GWII to know anything about it.
6. I like not having to worry a whole lot about stats. Sure, stats will help you a bit, but I have never had a full set of excotic gear, or even rare, and I have never had any problems. I don’t even use sigils or runes.
7. I like a good story. Sure, the cutscenes in the persoanl story can be a little stale every once in a while, but it gets the job done. There are only two things I don’t like about the personal story. 1. If I was able to do it solo all the way up to the last chapter, why not allow me to finish it that way? 2. Why did so many of the best characters have to die, while the only one I didn’t like had to survive, and become the great hero?
8. I like a changing world. Even though some of the dynamic events restart way too quickly ‘cough’ maw ‘cough’, I find it so amazing that I can level up multiple characters in one zone and have completely different experiences because of the dynamic events.
9. I like not having to pay for anything other than the box and still recieve more content. Be it small updates, a living story or bug fixes. I bought this game because I valued the content that was available at release to be worth the price of the box. Since I am not paying a subscription for the game, I don’t expect nearly as much future content to be added, with the exception of expansions etc.

Please don’t take this post as if it was meant to invalidate any points that have been brought up in this thread.

While I like that people are so loud when it comes to expressing their opinions, I think that sometimes people are too quick to judge the future of the game based on a single change, or perhaps multiple changes, that they do not agree with.

Guild Wars II has been out for six months. The devs are still learning how to optimize the gameplay experience for most people.

Some games have been out for many years, and have had a lot of changes that made the gameplay experience worse, but over time those changes were reverted, even improved in some cases. GWII is no different. The devs will learn more and more about what works for the game and what doesn’t work for the game. You just need to give them time.

There is no need to quit the game forever due to a change that you didn’t like. You can take a break and come back whenever you like. And who knows. Perhaps by the time you come back the game will have more to offer.

Don’t get me wrong. If a change has been made to the game that you like, call ArenaNet on it!
The more people who voice their opinions the more information the devs will have about what the playerbase wants. But when you voice your opinion, be constructive.

Or perhaps an option to hide more pieces of your equipment, like we currently can with head gear, shoulderpads and backpacks?

Not being able to hide my armour as a Norn kind of makes me sad, because I don’t get to see my tattoos.
It also goes for my Charr. I hardly ever get to see most of my fur, which is what makes Charr look so different from each other. The facial costumization is rather poor for Charr, so we kind of rely on our fur to not look like clones.

6. Upleveling in PvP as well as instant access to best in-slot gear.
7. Dynamic events.

13. Armour sets of a size that you can actually imagine wearing.
I remember a certain game where the power of your character would depend on the size of your shoulderpads.
And where there would only be new models for head gear and shoulderpads, where the rest of the gear would be re-painted versions of gear that has been around for years, if not just having the “gear” being paint on the character’s body.

I completely agree that we need more space.

But I think they should develop a tab-system for town clothes, just like Blizzard did with mounts in WoW.
Having a tab with all your town clothes that would allow you to equip any town set you have on your account(race-specific town clothes restricted to the race it was made for, of course) would simply be amazing.

Tartus Souldrift…. Sounds like a Son of Svanir to me!

Nice name, it actually fits really well. 10/10.

My Norn warrior is called Hurak Frostheart.

Knut Whitebear is a reference to this lovely little fella’:

Also, the scream that the Claw of Jormag makes sounds exactly like Godzilla.

Edited: I mixed up the names of two missions in the personal story.
I had a mission(Temple of the Forgotten God) where I had to swim to an underwater area, and after completing that one I got a mission called “Through the Looking Glass”, but I mixed up the names of those two, which made me believe the underwater mission was a reference to Lost.

Hello.

First of all, I would like to apologize if this is the wrong place to make this post, but I have not been able to find another forum where I could find the answer to this question, nor was I able to find any information about this in the support section.

In the first few days after I started playing Guild Wars 2(I started on the 28th of August) I purchased an item from the gem store called Celebration Hat and I have had it in my bank for most of the time, but recently I have been trying to make a Warrior for PvP and I had a Warrior already but I wasn’t happy with the way my character looked, so I decided to delete it and make a new one, but unfortunately I had been using the Celebration Hat on the character I deleted.

Is there a way I can get the Celebration Hat back, or is it gone forever?

I will attach a screenshot showing that the Celebration Hat still is listed in my recent purchases, but I suppose it won’t count as evidence as such things can be manipulated by various programs.

How to safely spot a bot?

Hello.

First of all, I would like to say that I do not intent to troll, flame, whine or spam these forums with unnecessary posts.

Now, to my topic.

Through my journey from level 1-80 I have been seeing some very strange behaviours of player characters.
I have been reading a lot about people using botting programs, and I have seen player characters act as if not being controlled by a player, but how can I know if a player character is being controlled by a player or by a program?

I definitely wish to help ArenaNet remove cheaters from the game, but from what I have seen they do not hestitate to ban people who do so (which I am very grateful for), but I am afraid to report people for botting, due to the fact that I fear reporting players who just play the game differently and then end up being banned myself as a result of abusing the report function.

So at what point is it safe to say that a character is being controlled by a bot and not by a player?
I have seen player characters who run around naked, attacking the same mobs over and over again, when they die they respawn at the nearest waypoint and repeat.
I have seen characters run around in the same paths over and over again.
I have seen characters basically teleport from one mob to another, and the same with gathering nodes such as veins and lumber.

I personally like to take in the beauty of the game, which for me sometimes means trying to climb various different objects to be able to take a screenshot with a very beautiful landscape in the background, but what other people see me doing is wallclimbing or standing in the same spot throughout an event while just doing emotes, which also can seem like a strange activity for a player.

So, when is it safe to report a character for botting?

Below I have attached a screenshot which shows what I mean by the wallclimbing thing. Although it is a vista point, you’ll get what I mean.
