(edited by Naus the Gobbo.5172)
The game is not focused on anything, really. We get all kinds of content, but mostly PvE.
SPvP has pretty much been neglected up until last last December. A few maps have been added, but now they are finally revamping the reward systems, and the amount of people doing SPvP has increased by at least 40% since then.
There is no holy trinity, everyone is DPS and has responsibility for themselves. Everyone can heal and tank, but some classes do it better than others.
As far as endgame goes, there is no specific endgame.
ArenaNet doesn’t want to lock content to max level, like other MMOs do, instead they let you do everything from the beginning.
So instead of having a long list of things to do at max level, they just expand the list of things you can do right when you start.
As far as hardcore content(which you indicate you want), they started adding things like that back in June. There are currently two extremely difficult bosses which requires 100+ people to kill.
There are also other difficult encounters in the game, but a lot of people avoid them since they aren’t particularly rewarding.
(edited by Naus the Gobbo.5172)
Of course.
Evon would never have let this happen. He would have had Scarlet hung within a week.
That’s why were drowning in bugs and —-- living story over here? for china?
How developer intensive is a translation? In my mind I can’t help but think all they need to do is translate text (the implementation of which shouldn’t take a programmer too long to do), record new audio (which might be time consuming but probably not requiring of the main development team).
Mmm although by all appearances it would appear I’m missing something, particularly if your assumption that core team members (or at least a significant number) at ANet are being used to create the translation is correct.
I don’t have much experience with this, but games in China are very different to the ones we have over here.
For example things have to be more grindy. And you can’t have bones showing, so every single item or zone in the game that has bones in it has to be redesigned.
But it’s great to hear that it won’t be long before it launches in China, cus then the primary focus will most likely be for GWII to get an expansion of some sort.
I don’t really care wether or not the content is delivered through the Living Story or an expansion.
I just want to know what they are working on. Right now there is nothing to be excited about.
They’ve said that they have large pojects in the background, but they refuse to tell what it is, or even hint at what it is.
Hello.
I thought it might be fun to make a thread where people could share fun facts about the game.
Just post something you think perhaps not many people know, or just want to emphasize.
Here are mine:
1) -The tongue on quaggan backpacks expands drastically when you move – see screenshot 1.
2) -During heavy lag you can sometimes see how the enviroments are built. Sometimes you get to see each individual building, floor etc. as they load, and other times you get to see the giant chess board the world is set it – see screenshot 2.
3) -No matter how manly your character is, there is always a way to turn it around – see screenshot 3.
What are yours?
The point of render samples is to smoothen edges.
The higher the rendering sample is, the more you’ll be able to see the lines of each individual leaf on a tree as you run by.
But the difference between native and supersample is not worth it, unless you have a beast of a computer. The higher the render sample is the harder it is for your computer to run.
The amount of skills we have per weapon set is fine. They just need to be somewhat equally useful.
And we need to have more weapons available for the proffessions, like giving greathammers to engineers, rifles to elementalists and nerfbats to warriors.
Having 100 skills on the screen is a pain in the eye.
Don’t believe me? This used to be my UI in WoW before I polished it:
Every single spell was keybinded.
To those commenting on my UI:
I made that UI myself. It was perfect for me.
The problem was the amount of skills on the screen, not the UI itself.
I’ll add a screenshot of my UI from after I polished it and got rid of the junk. But in doing so I had to remember a ton of things without them being on the screen.
(edited by Naus the Gobbo.5172)
I’ve got to say, if you need 30k achievement points for the whole set, then this set will be more prestigious than any other armour in the game.
Hello.
After the last patch I’ve noticed that now there are Hellfire and Radiant boots.
I was just wondering, does anyone know if/when we will get the pants and breastplate?
In case you haven’t seen them:

Why is everyone so eager to play a race mirrored after chickens? ;S
Cus we’ve been playing Angry Birds and Flappy Bird.
It can only be good.
I’ve had a blast with a lot of updates.
Bazaar of the Four Winds, Queen’s Jubilee and Clockwork Chaos were fantastic.
But my favourite is the Tower of Nightmares. The amount of content, story, cutscenes, everything, was phenomenal. And the ending, my god. Seeing that giant phallus explode all over the place was intense.
And the ending of this season looks very promising.
I am very excited about season 2.
Personally I have problems remembering things like keybindings for different games, but GWII has an extremely simple UI, with very little need for keybindings.
All you really need to bind is your utility spells(the spells on the right side of the screen).
I can’t speak for Rift or SW:TOR, but with WoW, oh man. You have a thousand things that need to be keybinded.
You just made me go through my old WoW screenshots to see my UI.
Everything was keybinded, and I hid two action bars which were full of other things that also were keybinded, but I was able to remember them.
Here is what my UI looked like before I left:
You can’t really play an MMO and then complain about having to play with other people.
GWII has the best open world content of any MMO currently on the market, as far as I’m concerned, and if you can’t stomach it then I’d say MMOs aren’t for you.
Plus, if you are having trouble then it may, as others suggested, be a L2P issue.
Take me for example: I don’t do builds; I pick whatever traits and spells I like. I don’t care much for gear, mostly greens, rares and a few excotics.
I am able to play most of the game like this, but I can’t do some skill points in Orr. That’s my fault, not the game’s.
I found this on the German part of the forums a while back.
Vayne beat me to it.
All other MMOs are built upon the idea of grinding. Keeping you playing and paying for much longer than nessecary.
Picking up 15 flowers is not a fun experience, but it will keep you playing.
Guild Wars 2 has a huge amount of freedom when it comes to gameplay and character progression, so if you can’t stomach the questing experience in this game, then I’d say MMOs are not for you.
In this game you can do whatever you want to progress your character, so if you don’t like questing then there are a million other ways for you to progress.
That’s a lovely idea.
Hobo-Tron and Hobo-Tronica forever.
A picture of my character would be fine.
In fact I would love it as long as I could edit the picture myself.
But an armory like on the WoW forums is a terrible idea. I don’t want people telling me:“You only have 1k achievement points, your argument is invalid”.
On these forums we display our account name, which means we can’t hide behind alts like on the WoW forums.
That alone has resulted in people being more clever when posting.
There are sexual differences in the races
The only difference between a male charr and a female charr is the face, tail and fur. Everything else is exactly the same. Same goes with asura.
Look at many modern mammals today. Sexual dichotomy isn’t a requirement in evolution and should only occur if there’s an advantage to be conveyed to the species. While lions, for example, have a pretty clear dichotomy most other big cats (and small) practically require you to sneak up behind them and lift up their tails. The fact that there are races that mimic this tendency really is refreshing and a nice touch by ANet.
I agree that it is a nice touch that ArenaNet doesn’t just slab breasts on, make googly eyes with eye lashes and call it a girl, but humans and norn have completely different models for male and female. The animations are different and so is the armour and everything else.
I am well aware that it costs a ton of time, money and resources to make two completely different models, but personally I just don’t see it as a “full” race unless the males and females look and feel different.
If the males and females are going to look exactly the same, then why not just make it a genderless race and make all the face/fur/hair options available?
I am not at all saying this is a problem, it’s just something that annoys me and I made the thread to see if other people are annoyed by it as well.
No hate, no whining, just curiousity.

Hello.
If ArenaNet added a new race, say the tengu, would you be dissapointed if the female model and the made model looked exactly the same, had exactly same animations and only wear male armour, just like charr and asura?
I’m asking this because I’m surprised that people don’t seem to mind that charr and asura share the same model for both genders.
There has been no mention of it being removed, as far as I know.
But you can just farm gold for a few weeks and not have to give up any of your characters.
MMOs typically get expanions every 2-3 years and GWII is not even 1½ year old yet.
What we need is content to be permanent and the removed content to be added again.
Imagine if everything since Flame and Frost still was here.
And I don’t mean to sound negative towards you, but if you play a game that much you will exhaust it, no matter what you are playing.
Except perhaps Minecraft. Ooooh you cubical world, many hours were spent building 5×5 houses of dirt… what just happened? (O_O)
Didn’t Colin say in an interview that they would make the jungle dragon first?
Those screenshots actually make me a little sad.
According to that drawing of the alliances, it seems she wanted to make an alliance between the tengu and largos.
I would have liked to see that.
If this means we will be going to the other cities then I am all for it.
If not, then it’s just a waste of a good lion statue. Again.
I love open world zerging.
And I was a big fan of the clockwork chaos invasions. It was extremely fun back when it was new.

Hello.
I have noticed that the Duelist’s shoes have three dye panels for asura, but only two for charr and I was wondering why that is?
How come charr get less dye panels on armour than other races?
And is there more armour with this restriction?
(edited by Naus the Gobbo.5172)
If they release the Tengu without giving them a parrot face I shall call them on a big red phone and scream at them.

Pah.

Hello.
I was just wondering; has anyone seen this paper dragon floating around the lion statue?
I definitely don’t remember ever seeing that before.
Is it new?
I would love for them to completely overhaul the mail system.
I want to see the conversations I have had with other people. Like on Skype where you can track an entire conversation over 2 years.

Thank you, ArenaNet, for all of these things.
Fixed it for you.
I don’t want to bash the ANET team for all their hard work, but I hate when a B2P game is treated like a P2P game.
At least we’re able to convert gold to gems, so things like the new armor sets can be disregarded as 50g instead of cash.
Still, kinda makes me sad we hadn’t had much new content worth the wait. There hasn’t been anything compelling as Fractals since last November.
The RNG parts were bad, but you cannot be angry at them for putting most of these cosmetic items in the gem store.
That’s what games without a subscription fee do. You don’t pay a subscription, so instead there is a cash shop. And you can’t even call the gem store a cash shop, cus you can buy everything with in-game gold.
Heck, even WoW does it. And WoW has the most ridicolous way of milking you.
-First you buy the game(+ all of the old expansions).
Then you pay 15$ per month to log in.
Then you buy the new expansion for 60$.
There are microtransactions like server transfers and race changes, all of them cost 20$ per character.
There is also an in-game cash shop selling mounts, pets and skins.

Hello.
I just wanted to say thanks to ArenaNet for the customization we have gotten in last 6 months, or since June if you want.
Here is what we have gotten:
12 new armour sets:
1. Aetherblade (heavy).
2. AetherBlade (medium).
3. Aetherblade (light).
4. Braham (heavy).
5. Magitech (medium).
6. Phoenix (light).
7. Phalanx (heavy).
8. Viper (medium).
9. Trickster (light).
10. Acended (heavy).
11. Ascended (medium).
12. Ascended (light).
(Flamekissed does not count as new sets. Putting new textures and fire on old armour does not make it a new armour set).
7 new weapon sets for each weapon type:
1. Jade.
2. Zenith.
3. Aetherized.
4. Sovereign.
5. Zodiac.
6. Dreamthistle.
7. Ascended.
30 new faces.
35 new hairstyles.
(a lot of back pieces, a few helms and stuff like that, but they are all gone…)
1 new heal skill per profession.
Thank you, ArenaNet, for all of these things.
Hello.
I apologize if this has been suggested before, or it simply is a really poorly thought-out system, but I have been thinking about something.
In arenas you often get into teams that are 4v5 or less or even worse than that. There is not really anything to do about ragequitters, but the team with less players will always be at a huge disadvantage.
But what if there was a system that would give a buff to the team that had less players, as a compensation?
Imagine this: You get into an arena and your team only has 4 people, while the other team has 5. Since you are missing one player you will get a buff that increases all of your stats by 25%.
You will still be at a disadvantage, but you you will have a much greater chance of winning since your team will get a huge buff.
The buff would depend on the amount of players in your team.
Full team = no buff.
4/5 = 25%.
3/5 = 40%.
etc.
And if the team with less players won they would get another 100 rank points.
I apologize if this is a terrible system, but I just wanted to hear if something like this would be beneficial.
We are indeed spoiled, and it will be interesting to see how the new MMOs will do, since people these days don’t give new games a chance to grow. The game either has everything at launch, or it’s a terrible game.
Wildstar better have a customizable UI or I won’t bother trying it out. The UI fills the entire screen, and I need to have my screen as clear as possible.
As much as I dislike the UI in GWII, at least you can actually see what’s going on, except for when there are spell effects.
Why is it okay for other games to charge you 60$ for an expansion that includes a new race or class, but GWII is not allowed to sell those things seperately?
Not the same paradigm.
- In gemstore it feel like : Hey ! If you pay more than the other you will have a better class ! Let the ugly tasteless classes to the others and pick this shining one, you deserve it !
- In expansion it feel like : During the last two years we have developed new content and improvement for some game mechanisms.
But isn’t it exactly the same thing anyway?
The only difference I see is that with selling things seperately is that you get to decide what you pay for instead of being forced to pay a certain amount of money, and then get whatever the devs wanted to sell.
Think of it this way:
Expansions can contain new classes, races and maps. But instead of paying for all of it, you simply get to decide which parts you want.
Lets use Mists of Pandaria as example. There is a new race, a new class and a new continent. Maybe I just want a new race and a new continent. Why should I be forced to pay for the development of another class if I didn’t care about that class?
The title need a tag [How to kill GW2].
Gemstore must exclusively provide skins and out fight bonuses.
Why is it okay for other games to charge you 60$ for an expansion that includes a new race or class, but GWII is not allowed to sell those things seperately?
I highly recommend Ring of Fire.
I see people everywhere I go, no matter what time it is.
I can’t speak much for World vs. World because I have only tried it a few times, even though those times it was heavily populated if not full.
sPvP is quite desolate as far as I’m concerned. There are always people there, but I don’t see any PvP guilds.
It’s how I want them to do it, since they don’t want to make traditional expansions.
They need money and things to advertise, and new races and classes are expansion material.

Well this was a buzzkill. I just started playing GW2, and even though I’m late to the party, I’m loving it! How can people hate on it this much? I pretty much despise WoW so I’m not sure how people are saying they might go back to WoW, the least interactive, least immersive, most gear based, calculator combat ever invented. The combat, the questing system, are all far better here in my rookie humble opinion.
I’ll admit that I never really got into GW1, but from my limited experience with it, it was entirely instanced right? No open world filled with other players, if you left town at all it was an instance. Anyways, I like this much better.Hearts are disguised as the most grindiest quests.
Hearts are disguised as the grindiest quests?
Here is a quest in a normal MMO:
1. Go to this area.
2. Talk to this npc.
3. Pick up the quest.
4. Go kill 15 boars.
5. Return to the npc.
6. Pick up new quest. Here is a quest in GWII:
1. Be in this area.
2. There are 3-5 objectives, you can do whichever of them you want to. Or mix and match.
3. Go about your day.How on earth is that a grindy quest?
The only “innovative” thing with the heart system is that it lets you pick your poison. Choices boil down to collect, kill, or some combination of both. And this, at the cost of having any sort of overarching story for a specific zone.
Quests and storytelling are two completely different things.
Just in case you’ve played WoW; how did me picking up 15 cactus apples help the orcs in Durotar in their conflict against Kul Tiras?
The storytelling in GWII is really poor, but that has nothing to do with quests.
It has to do with the fact that ArenaNet strictly wants to voice act everything storybased, which is ridicolously limiting.
They are against walls of text, not story.

I don’t know if this has always been the case, but Doern Velazquez in the Chantry of Secrets also talks about something possibly happening to Lion’s Arch.
I went to the Durmand Priory but most of the npcs are bugged so you can’t talk to them.
BUT!
You can talk to Kekt, an asura, and he says he has eyebrows. Very interesting… since asuras don’t have eyebrows.
Plus Scholar Stinn changes name to Olenn when you set the language to German.
Obvious plot is obvious!
Stinn and Kekt are spies sent to wipe out the Durmand Priory using Kekt’s magical eyebrows!
(edited by Naus the Gobbo.5172)
Uhm, could this perhaps be what was talked about during one of the asura personal stories?
In one of the asura personal stories you meet yourself from the future, and your future self says something about a great battle at Divinity’s Reach.
All I can recommend is a Razer Naga.
There are more than enough buttons on it to play most games.
The only downside I have experienced is that it tends to double-click, which is extremely frustrating.
Once again, goes to prove how out of touch ANet is with their playerbase.
Do you really think any of us neckbeards use facebook?
I do, and I like it.
It’s another way for them to communicate with the playerbase, and they respond to people quite often.
One level per day would still be better than nothing.
I just don’t want to see this go away.
I guess I know why he is always so happy.
If you take a look at his goggles you’ll notice it’s the same glass.
Hello.
I apologize if this has already been answered, but I am quite confused as to what will happen once glory is removed.
However, I am more worried about wether or not the tomes of knowledge will still be there after the changes.
Perhaps they would be a reward for winning an arena? Or as a reward for finishing your pvp daily?
I am finally able to level up my characters by doing the thing I like, and I really hope that it won’t be going away.
There are no mounts because exercise is good for you.
Plus, think about the dolyaks. Those poor creatures are already being heavily harrased by the world. And all they want is to peacefully walk around and eat snow.
