i play necro in pvp, and i can say from experience you are still quite valuable in sPvP. If you are just learning i recommend you use a meta build or whatever you are most comfortable with and focus first on your positioning and kiting because the biggest issue necro is getting focus fired.
If you need help on necro in pvp feel free to message me. Im not the best but ive manage over a 60% winrate career on necro.
Why didn’t you defend the lord? should be easily possible even 4v5 to gain some time at least.

sustain , condi damage , fleeing , cc , condi removal , health regen , pets ,
practically every skill a necro has at their disposal is out done by some other class .
the on going trend that people keep telling themselves is that necro is an attrition based class , yet you can have that in the guardian .
so . here are some solutions to fix that ..
abilities that do self harm need to be buffed and the self harm removed .
the casting times for skills need to be quicker .
pet health need to be increased .
fear needs to be over all changed . instead of being a skill that does damage , remove the damage and increase the time for the fear itself as a proper cc .
over time for snares and roots need to be increased .
life siphon needs to be increased
condition transfer needs to be increased from 3 to 6
and death shroud skills need a speed increase in cast , projectile , and recast of duration needs to be lowered .
fear doesnt do ANY damage unlesss you trait for it.
Do you think it would help if the trait was in blood magic? I think it was also nerfed to have a cooldown on the shroud activation. Anyways mind sharing your build I’m willing to try it
Swap places with Unholy Martyr (seriously why is UM in blood magic when it completely screams death magic).

until there is way to differentiate between accidental DC’s and purposeful ones they system currently in place is necessary. It sucks that its due to your older computer but its not something anet can cater too without being able to differentiate because people would abuse it.
Its not a second life bar, its a rechargeable damage shield that comes with its own utility skills while your normal skills are allowed to recharge.
Whether you call it a life bar or damage shield, you’re right in that shroud skills (especially regular shroud) aren’t super useful or thematic and they just bide the time till you can use other skills. It’s a core mechanic of the class and most builds don’t use it other than to wait recharges like you said. That’s why I’m hoping that each shroud could be tweaked to fill a role. It would give necromancers a reason to want to be in shroud depending on if they want to damage, tank or support.
wasnt one of the best selling point of GW2 was that they didnt do roles….. they didnt want to do what some other MMOs are doing hence no holy trinity…. It sounds as though you might want to try a game with a holy trinity….

Umm, the GS auto chain ends with the entire sword being encased in ice. It’s extremely easy to see when it ends.
Ok. It’s pretty easy to see in pve I’ll give you that. I’m just going to say it’s harder to notice for me in pvp due to the fact I’m barely looking at my own character… usually watching my opponents for animations. Doesn’t help I play an asuran with the most non descript gs possible.
Hoping the 1st skill from greatsword of Reaper can added a visual effect like the Sigil of Hydromancy, an ice-burst at 1st skill-chains end.
Just a visual effect, it doesn’t deal any damage.
actually dont hate this idea sometimes its tough to tell if the chain is finished unless you are really listening. dunno about the hyrdo sigil idea but something wouldnt be bad.
I wouldn’t run curses trait line and I definately would run Marauders amulet over Demolishers. Many variations on this build are possible, but yeh its nice to play. Keep it up.
the build works with either maurauders or demo, use mauraders against condition heavy comps. I do find that i perform better with Demo ammy since thieves and rangers cant blow me up.
and as far as curses, only thing i could see running instead of it is Soul Reaping. But im not running staff.. so no need for unblockable marks. Then there is the crit chance… due to curses having fury and the crit modified from condis i bet my overall crit chance throught the match will actually be higher with curses. So really the only reason to run SR would be the slight increase in damage when LF is high, the higher life force pool, and the slower degen of lf. So to get those things i would have to give up weakness procs, crit chance out of DS, corrupt on ds, corrupt on enntering ds and a condi transfer.
i see the merits of using SR but im not of the same mind of everyone else that thinks it is necessary for every necro build. For me the extra corrupts and weakness application outweigh the DS advantages especially with the weapon sets and other traits i have chosen.
Now if i was using a staff and maurader ammy then yes i would probably pick SR over Curses.

No I don’t hate the top players never did. They was part of the reason I played PvP hardcore up until Season 3. This is a pure case of “I hate the system that punishes decent players for mistakes of the system.”
I mean what I hate about the system is that. More nowadays I can still go 1v2 and 1v3 at home and defend on a druid or scrapper. Load up on the top defense, top kills, and top revives, and still 5 out of 5 matches still not only get hit with the loss. But always with enoth rating deduction that it’ll take me 2 or 3 games to make it up. Then on top of it having players who’ve I’ve constantly get the better of in matches when, things are even. Telling me to Get Gud Scrub, or Learn to sit on 2 points at the same time BS.
Oh and something me and other players that used to play PvP in GW2 noticed. That the more you lose regardless of your personal merits during matches. The more progressively worst your team mates get. That mixed with 2/2/2/5/8 all solos going up against 10/10 duo’ed with 8/8 duo’ed and 5. Just makes people want to sell their GW2 account, if they are PvP oriented players. As now most PvP orented playes know. GW2 is now one of the worst games to play for players in the category. GW2 offers very little in terms of value, compared to other PvP games on the market.

In that case, I counter propose an ability to toggle an MMR limiter – essentially having the option to lock outliers from joining your game (ie. preventing low mmr’s from joining high mmr’s and vice versa). This would mean higher ranked MMR’s have the option to wait hours for their top ranked games, while everyone else can just get on with it.
If you really want to change the PvP culture though, you could pick up a thing or two from PvE Dungeoneers. Pick up a newbie, teach them what you know, and send them off into the wide world to teach someone who may one day carry you.
In a perfect yes I’d agree with you. However at least in GW2’s PvP. Most of the high rated leaderboard PvPers. Are too caught up in their own personal ratings. That they rather throw matches for each other on smurf accounts. Try to game the system so they can be on top.
And you are suggesting that these same players train newbros and sisters. Lol there is a reason why they haven’t been doing it yet. Their fragile little glass EGOs would be broken, if someone they trained ends a season higher on the leaderboards then them.
Learn from what has happened with the WvW communities. And their ultimate META that I’m sure they don’t even realized they created. The Server Stacking/Bandwagoning META[Not a single thing else in WvW comes close to that META, because it is absolute.] To be honest I can’t really blame them too much. These are the communities that ANet groomed up through it’s policies or lack of policies.

A core change includes the reaper gaining benefit from this change. Again, you seem to be mistaking what I"m saying. I’m horribly sorry this is so confusing for you. I’ll simplify it next time so it doesn’t harm your little head.
Pretty sure they could introduce some way to change core necro without helping reaper. But my head thanks you in the meantime

ill explain my WvW thinking since you seem to be offended by it. There are some decent pvpers in wvw but they are either strictly 1v1ers or zergers. The average gold pvper is going to be better than most of these guys with very few exceptions for the 1v1 people. You may find a wvwer that is better at 1v1 in wvw send em to PvP and their build doesnt work. And those 1v1ers might go to PvP and try to be a 1v1 hero the whole time and never support their team. WoP is kind of a kitten stunbreak since its not instant, the stab you get is negligent, the boons are nice but you’d probably be able to survive longer with a big instant condi clear on a much shorter cooldown.

Yes most likely I would replace suffer or rise with it. For right now the skill has too much of a tell and it’s cast time is far too long

Wasnt being hostile but when you change the ammy a wep traits even a whole line it’s not really similiar…. I was in no way calling your build bad hell I made it to plat with what I would call a bad build(diviner chrono runes gs d/what wells).

sometimes some people wait until the divisions settle in a little bit before doing ranked. Its possible those people are now starting and they should climb quickly.

I use WoP for party support, stunbreak, stability and boons. I use the axe trait for the cooldown reductions for a smoother play and the +% dmg multiplier. I want to use marauders but I’m not good enough on reaper yet.
Unless you are legendary then any spvp you play isn’t real pvp either if we are going to start comparing things like that.

as far as axe goes in PvP the Chill of Death proc is more valuable as spike damage is what you want against other players especially with the boon removal and chill application. Get more bang for your buck in pvp with it. The cooldowns on axe are still pretty low that i dont think you would even notice you didnt have it.
also dont forget you wont have the food buffs in pvp. or ascended stats. or the same variety of sigils.

I’ve tried those Combinations I find that I have more sustain from keeping opponents weakened. I’m doing a double aoe corrupt everytime I go into ds so I eat boon spanners. Also the dps increase from onslaught I’ve found to be almost negligible and due to all the boon generation from spite I get some sustain and some good lf regeneration. Rise itself will only clear condis with the minions if you trait for it… so it’s not the shout itself doing it. I don’t have any problems fighting condition classes with all the shouts (soldier runes) and the curses trait and dagger 4 it’s impossible to keep condis on me and I’m clearing them from teammates as well. The toughness and rise help against the power classes. Even with the gs buffs I still feel like dagger is better for a close range fight and the lf regeneration is better. Being able to generate lf when out of combat with the shout heal is awesome and with the shout trait you get a bit more sustain and are able to clear condis much quicker
Not being a kitten but what you are running really isn’t that similar seems to have a different purposes than mine…. the goal for mine is to corrupt boons, keep opponents weakened, and clear condis from I and my teammates all while maintaining good damage due to the fact I’ll be critical for a ton with the curses line.

not for nothing but i decided to try my alt acct and hit bronze on purpose and i carried hard on a freaking wells necro with a GS and a diviner ammy lol
I play Rainbow 6 Siege, and in that game, you can only pick a class that isn’t already taken. Anet should do same. If someone pick Thief, then that class is gray out and unselectable. If you only have Thief, and it taken, you can opt out of match.
Take that cute little idea by the neck, strangle it till it dies, hog tie it to a cinderblock and chunk it over a tall bridge. Idc if there’s water or not.
I only play one class buddy.

Going from Plat to bronze is quite a jump….. im wondering if maybe you were able to grind your way to play in earlier seasons? That used to be possible, now its really not possible for a lesser skilled player to grind their way into higher divisions when before we had people grinding their way to legendary just due to the amount of games they played. My guess is you probably werent at plat skill level so you started getting teamed against better teams and got beat so your rating started dropping. But as we all know ratings seem to drop faster than they climb so you lost a ton of rating due to you being ranked so high and losing to either same rank or lesser rank players. My guess is you will start climbing again now that your MMR was tanked and should settle into upper silver or low gold.
none of you are going to be able to convince someone who dont play gw2 as their primary game that people shouldn’t be forced to switch. In their minds all necros are condi all thieves are stealth dps all eles are healer etc…..
Not sure if this bug is still around but if you had a necro on your team and a transferred condition finished someone they can rally an enemy. It’s super annoying but I haven’t noticed it really in a while so not sure if it still happens
Try plugging an ethernet cable directly into your laptop, also, ssds are cool but it wont boost performance, only storage speeds
Ssd would cut down on loading time for him, might help with the dcs. I’ve got a 950 pro nvme m.2 and I can reboot and load gw2 in under 30 seconds. Can’t do that with an hdd.
The winning team is already encouraged to win by as much as possible. That’s one of the big things that turns people off PvP.
Spawn camping, calling out “gg ez” in map chat…. and people wonder why PvP has the reputation it does. It’s because of the “sportsmanship.”
Not so much spawn camping but the contextual map chats is something Every competitive game endures. Games like LoL is a whole lot more enduring than gw2..
Gw2 is super tame compared to other pvp mmos I have played.
Ultima online has been around since 97 and the competitiveness or its gw2 synonym “toxicity” is still very much prevalent to this day.
yesterday won a match 500-470ish. we came back from 300-50.

When you aren’t playing the game of maybe hit the thief after his 1836749263492 evades are off, his 3 teleports are wasted, and you haven died from his autoattacks in case his headshot spam proccing PI on YOUR autoattacks didn’t kill you by that time.
Or maybe the incredible fun of killing mongoloid warriors who go immune to damage for 10+ seconds while having 25 sec cd CC that’s usually a fraction of all stunbreaks in the game.
Or maybe getting spear pulled into a nest of traps to die immediately.
Yeah, the spvp in this game is soooo much fun and well designed.
Not knowing exactly what is going to happen is what makes pvp so fun the situations you describED are avoidable you know how to pvp. Where pve you know exactly what’s going to happen every time.
The unpredictability and interaction with other players makes pvp extremely entertaining. But no no people know a days would rather do the same thing over and over again for their shinies

Ive actually made a power build that makes me last a lot and still do good enough damage to everyone and survive quite a some outnumbered fights. Ill share with you if u care to try. Pm me ingame

I’m willing to bet you duo queued most, if not every single match.
Even if he did he still belongs near the top.
Am I the only one who winds up in a match against esl players and am like “wow cool I don’t care if I’m going to lose this match the fact that I’m in this game must mean I’m improving”
And then there are some people who see those names and are just like “screw this I’ll be on the pooper”
just saying necro ds counts as a wep swap so it wont hurt them too much

They did say in this thread that when this goes live they want to ship it with cuts to sustain as well. Which is awesome, both sustain and raw damage are currently too high, would be nice to cut down on both at the same time
if thats the case then good, but they better not hit all classes with sustain nerfs…. there are a few that i hardly think need that
