I am currently helping my friend craft the Bifrost. After the upcoming dye change, how will we get Unidentified Dyes? Should I just go and plow through my savings and buy the remaining Unidentified Dyes now, or will there be an equitable option after the April Update to fulfill the 250 Unidentified Dye requirement?
Whoa this actually sounds like a really cool idea. I like it!
A good portion of the devs play on SBI. No need to worry folks. They’ll be right on it!
It’s to balance their class mechanics.
Can you imagine a Thief with base 18,000 health? It’d be awful.
For most of the classes, the whole variance in health is actually done pretty decently and fairly.
The classes are sorted by order of their ability to mitigate damage:
-Guardians have tons of blocks, boons, and healing. Thieves have stealth, movement, and evasion, and Elementalists have boons, healing, and movement. All three classes have good access to CC. These three classes have a lot of ways to respond to a situation in combat and either stop lots of damage or run away from it in the case of the latter two.
-Engineers have boons, CC, and healing. Rangers have a pet, evasion, and movement. Mesmers have clones and evasion. These classes have a moderate amount of ways to respond to pressure, yet have a tendency to get easily focused down. They have a Medium HP pool to respond to the lack of flexibility versus pressure that the three low HP classes have.
-Necromancers have deathshroud and CC. They have few abilities to really mitigate or heal through damage, so instead they have a gigantic health pool to just sort of tank damage instead.
Warriors are totally over the top and I have no clue why they’ve become the way they are. :/ High healing, incredible CC, and possibly great movement if they spec for it plus high health is indeed totally over the top and not in line with the rest of the 7 classes.

Um, you know that %damage modifiers don’t affect conditions, right?
It’s in a non-DPS tree, so meh. On the other hand, if you’re hurting for reflects while PUGing, and if you can retrait in dungeons, you could quickly swap to this trait and now be a reflecting machine (hehehe).
Wha? You’re just a noob! Just dodge the insta-cast, 1200 range, Power Lock .
This seems similar to the stuff they were talking about in the Chinese version, where the game also boosts your stats early on to make things easier.
I think ANet is aware of how completely and utterly painful it is to level an Ele at early levels.
My hope is that they’re just trying to refine the leveling curve, and properly boost the Ele’s stats early on so that it’s much easier to kill stuff and survive.
Cool trait. The problem with it is that our direct support traits – Rock Solid, Cleansing Wave, Elemental Attunement – have a measly range of 240. If they increased the range of those traits, this sort of dedicated healer-support-Ele would probably be a lot more viable in PvP-style formats.

Consider Koi Cakes and Perplexity Runes + Dire Armor.
… except that it doesn’t pose any sort of challenge to that said speedclear group, but drown the pug in tears now.
I never said such a decision would make any sense or be effective, simply that it was probably the motivating factor for doing such a quick haphazard change (keeping the AC tokens from the mob that they copy-pasted) out of the blue.
My honest guess is that they saw the current speedclear of HoTW 1 and they decided to add this as a small response, to try and make it harder.
Dwayna Runes just don’t proc Cleansing Water, for some reason. I do not know why, it’s dumb. It should. Report it as a bug.
Also, for some reason, Inscription + Glyph in Water Attunement seems to just grant one gigantic chunk of Regeneration, rather than applying Regeneration twice, is my guess. I’m not sure why it does it this way. It also seems like a bug.
Overall, I’d suggest posting this in the bug subforum.
Need a guild to do guild missions on Friday (NA).
Shadow’s Rejuvenation is indeed quite strong: wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Shadow’s_Rejuvenation
However, such a Thief that spams stealth:
-Does not really help in speedclearing dungeons in PvE
-Does not contribute much in a Zerg fight in WvW
-Does not capture or contest points well in PvP
So they really don’t do very much that impacts the game in any meaningful way. They just run around and harass people in hotjoins or in WvW “roaming”. I’m pretty sure that’s why this trait isn’t really considered a problem.
Honestly I think moving it to Adept would be adequate. However, I’d be more than happy to get a straight-up copy of Dogged March with Regen, as some people here have hinted at.
I made this gif just for this thread.
My favorite part is that it has the Temple Armor skin still, indicating that it’s either PTV or some other bunkery set of armor.
My heart dies a little everytime I see that armor skin in a dungeon PUG.
Having no speed signet is a way to balance out the other powers of the Mesmer and the Guardian. Mesmers have very good in-combat mobility along with clones and a medium health pool, so they’re a bit slower for general movement speed. Guardians have incredible melee prowess and thrive in close combat so their lack of swiftness allows other classes to kite them around.
Just for practice. Don’t stay with it FOREVER (it’s a low damage bunkery build and honestly my guide needs to be updated to talk about things more in a general manner than a dungeon guide). But certainly learning how to use all four attunements is better for you as a player (even if a dungeon speedclear build might just be “summon a lightning hammer and press 1111111111”).
Hmmm, based on your input, let me redirect you to my own guide then.
While it’s true that there are specialist builds for the Ele that maximize DPS and dungeon speedclear times, I think it would be an absolutely terrible shame for you to play Ele as just a one-attunement one-trick pony all the time, especially if just playing around and leveling the class.
Look at my own guide. I give a ton of rudimentary information on how to play the Ele, and look at the more beginner-friendly builds like the Water-Arcana one which will be useful if you ever go into PvP-style modes.
Bind your f-keys to something easy. Try Ctrl-A, Ctrl-E, Ctrl-D, and Ctrl-F. I feel that learning to get a feel of “dancing” through attunements is important for developing your general gameplay ability with the Elementalist. Really, sitting in one attunement I think gives a pretty narrow view of what the Ele is really capable of in general play.
Oh those guides. The ones that unleashed the plethora of Eles that use S/D with no LH. Meh.
Regardless of what he says, make sure to use LH for sustained damage when using Scepter. Scepter’s sustained damage is just a whole new level of terrible.
Dkeys’ guide is probably the best comprehensive PvE Speedclear guide now for Eles. Look at it in the stickied threads in this subforum.
Necromancers have incredible pressure and staying power. Most other classes will have an incredibly difficult time if forced to fight a Necromancer in a confinded area with no running away (such as fighting for a node). Warriors are probably the big exception (and I feel Warriors need to be seriously toned down).
If Necromancers had their sheer ability to stand around, deal damage, and sustain… while also being fairly mobile, I feel it would be unbalanced.
I feel the Necromancer lacking mobility is a fine and fair weakness and distinct counterbalance to their other innate abilities (such as the power to spec so highly for damage thanks to having a ton of health, or their very easy to land high-damage skills such as Scepter auto).
There is a very serious bug in the game right now with a literally broken interaction between the Elementalist’s Shocking Aura and the Mesmer’s Halting Strike and Mirror of Anguish traits.
If an Elementalist has Shocking Aura up and is interrupted by a Mesmer with Halting Strike, and if the Mesmer has Mirror of Anguish up, Halting Strike erroneously triggers a bunch of times, instantly downing the Elementalist.
Here are some videos of it happening:

Please fix this, immediately.

Impale on OH Sword is so good it would be a crime to NOT take it on a Condi Warrior.
I really liked Scarlet. She was a villain people hated. Y’know… like villains are supposed to be.
I wish the Charr elites were worth a kitten .
I disagree. Power Creep is a huge problem in this game. Warriors need to be brought in line with the other classes, not the other way around.
So we can instead have no classes with multiple viable builds?
Naw, I want other classes to have more options, like the warrior does.
The reason we don’t have multiple viable builds is because of the incredible amount of Power Creep that exists. Soldiers Healing Signet Warrior with a Bow and the Soft CC that is Pin Down is the perfect class in almost every way.
I want you to remember that many metas ago, the big specter of “large damage” was a Shatter Mesmer. It was burst and it’d hurt a lot. Nowadays the Mesmer is largely regarded as the lowest damage of the “DPS Roamers” – Engies, Eles, Thieves, and Mesmers.
The game has not gotten better as sustainability and damage have increased. It’s become unbearably filled with “Tanky DPS” (a role that, of all things, Eles used to fill), as we now have Soldiers Hambow Warriors, Settlers Spirit Rangers, some terribly cheesy Necro that is either a nuclear ball of Conditions or a herd of Minions, and an Engi with a gigantic armor raiting with a Rabid or Cleric amulet and then a nonsense array of powerful passive traits (Transmutation, Backpack Regenerator, Automated Response, Protection Injection).
Everything needs to get nerfed. Damage needs to get nerfed, sustainability needs to get nerfed. Twitch reactions and the ability to land and time skills need to be rewarded while bad or mis-timed dodges or wasted cooldowns should be punished.
The Warrior in its current state is disgustingly overpowered. Players run in and face tank everything, then proceed to use the buffed-up Pin Down and use a bunch of CC moves off CD or poke with Bow, all with the benefit of a 5 second weapon swap to choose to do either. This is the way the class plays for both its Hammer Soldiers version or its Sword Condition version. Both are “different” and “diverse” and “viable”. Both are also completely grossly overpowered as both allow a Warrior to simply facetank an incredible amount of damage, and then proceed to do: spammable CC with burst slills, incredible melee DPS with Hammer or Swords, and then incredible burst Ranged DPS with Longbow.
I do not want more classes to have builds like these. I want the tanky-DPS Warrior builds to die and I want the tanky-DPS builds of all other classes to die as well. Power creep needs to die and so do all the low-skill builds it’s generated.
I like that we have three “PvE Guides” stickied and none of them explain stuff like this.
Don’t worry about crafting.
For leveling, focus on damage gear (Power/Precision).
Try out leveling with other weapons like Double Daggers for more fluid movement.
Put points in Arcana and snag “Renewing Stamina” and “Elemental Attunement”, and learn to dance between attunements so you get a good feel for the class’ overall mechanic as you level.
I disagree. Power Creep is a huge problem in this game. Warriors need to be brought in line with the other classes, not the other way around.
Great news! The LA Event counts as a dungeon for the purpose of the Monthly Dungeon achievement!
Now you don’t even have to go into Dungeons to get the achievement points for the Dungeon Category. And as an added bonus to spite those Elitists, we made sure Fractals of the Mists still doesn’t count as a Dungeon for that category.

Why wouldn’t I just take my Warrior and slot in all the useful PvE utility skills of the other classes (Wall of Reflection, Signet of Inspiration, Feedback, Retreat, Stand Your Ground, Smokescreen, Conjure Lightning Hammer).
There would be literally no reason to bring other classes other than maybe either a Mesmer or Guardian for the AoE pulls.
0/10/0/30/30
Air: I
Water: III X XI
Arcana: II VIII XI
Power Engi would become king of PvE. Able to maintain high amounts of Vulnerability even on an enemy with Defiant, the extra doubled percentage DPS boost would be ginormous. A grenade barrage would add 16% DPS to your party versus a big bad. Oh geeze.
In PvP I’m sure it’d have a similar but smaller impact.
(edited by Neko.9021)
If you want to play a ranged DPS Ele, why not play a Scepter Ele?
Don’t mind me, just testing out my new Necro in WvW.
Mending is an amazing heal, honestly. It’s just power creep has taken classes to such extreme levels that a good heal like Mending is so utterly overshadowed by other options.
Healing Sig needs to be toned down, as does the sheer damage output in the game. Mending is where they game ought to be.
Uh, you do realize that they also gain the benefit of Healing Power from their actual heal skill, as well as from many other sources (Regen, dodging, Staff, Mace…)?
It’s perfectly fine as it is.
“Aetherblade/Dhuumfire” patch. The patch that introduced Scarlet’s name and the destruction of PvP balance and fun. Thanks for the name. Let’s rally behind this, and tell ANet not to make another Aetherblade/Dhuumfire patch.
This is actually a bit of an issue, it seems. Part of the barrier to PvP in this game is the awful “hotjoin” system that many players don’t realize is just for fun and not to be taken seriously at all. To them all of PvP is just hotjoin, and they don’t even realize the two queue systems that are in place exist at all.
We really do need an unrated queue with hidden MMR.
That was pretty terrible play.
The video is a testament to the awful skill level of most WvW players. As terrible as the Ele was, his opponents were somehow worse.
It is an INTENDED TACTIC.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=UCrTlXky2Z0
Here we see Isaiah Cartwright, one of the lead developers for GW2, showing the tactic in his WvW segment.
It was indeed intended that gates always signal they are getting attacked so that players could play mind games with enemy servers.
This is really sad. Why did the devs only respond to this problem when it involved Living Story? Potions have been bugged for months, and only now do they fix them.
These skills have no limit. If 20 players try to walk through one of these without Stability, Invulnerability, or some other similar buff, they will all get stopped. This is why guilds stack Guardians which stack Stability for their teams.
Hmm, I dunno, posting a video and basically saying ~ these guys are pretty alright, look at us beating them in a 4v9 ~ does seem a bit condescending. ^^; I can see from RIOT’s perspective why they were a bit peeved at the way this was posted.
“Meta” PvE or Meta PvP?
PvE, there’s already a ton of guides already stickied at the top of this subforum talking about what is the “meta” for PvE. Look at Dkeys’ guide if you want a nice overview.
For PvP, the Meta is Fresh Air scepter with 30 in Air and 20 in Arcana for Elemental Attunement and Renewing Stamina. The Offhand and heal are up to personal preference, and the utilities are your choice of Cantrips and Arcane skills.
You have 20 more points to spend, which can go into:
-the Earth tree for Stone Splinters and Rock Solid
-the Water tree for Vital Striking, Cantrip Mastery, and Cleansing Wave
-Arcane tree for Evasive Arcana
It’s up to you where to put them.
Eles are not an optimal class for commanding in WvW. That’s why you haven’t found a “build” for them. Warriors and Guardians are generally considered the better classes for commanding.
With that said, 0/X/X/30/30 with triple cantrip and Double Daggers is probably the best frontline build for the Ele.
Are you serious? Everytime I see posts like these I feel like I’m incredibly lucky, or people are far to disturbed by something that does not happen as much as they claim. You either have the WORST luck on anyone I have ever met, or you are lying. I only spvp in this game. Everyday in fact. Never even pve. I NEVER get into 4v5s as much as ANYONE ever claims on these forums. Out of the last 100 solo arena matches, I probably have gotten into 4 to 8 4v5s.
Yes, it is more common at lower ranks.
When I first started with the new leaderboards even after the new Dishonored system was in place, I got lots of 4v5s.
When I crawled onto the top 1000, they stopped happening.
When I fell off the top 1000 (bad playing on my part), I found I continuously got 4v5s and was quite frustrated at my position.
After climbing back onto the top 1000, they stopped happening again.
So yeah, at least in my personal experience, it seemed to happen more the lower ranked I was.
