Given all the restrictions they’re putting on new players such as having to unlock traits, sigils, runes, and amulets, I think the LEAST they could do is do this. Requiring minimum rank to play in the queues would be, in my opinion, a good restriction to regulate the flow of information to new players.

:o who would’ve thought this day would come that thieves are bothered by D/D elementalists :o

Are you trolling, or serious?

D/D Elementalist has always had a good matchup against most Thieves due to the extreme amount of PBAoE the set brings.

You really shouldn’t be so happy though about Thieves’ problems though. They get a lot of crap from everyone, and a lot of it isn’t really justified (barring the time when Pistol Whip and Larcenous Strike were a bit too strong, and in seperate metas as well).

Stacking has ruined player skill levels

Neko.9021

It is not MY fault that players that I PUG with end up as bad players. I take PERSONAL offense to being told that just trying to run a dungeon quickly, even telling people where to go and how the fights work, is somehow me contributing to making players bad.

And I do not take kindly to kittens like you telling us that we’re making PUGs worse by helping them to get through dungeons in the least painful ways possible. If a PUG wants to get better, it’s their responsibility to get better, NOT MINE.

Over-reaction much?

In your own words “telling people where to go and how the fights work” you are already doing what I suggested, no? Or Perhaps you missed the part where I specifically said:

If you want a solution to my issue, when you carry a newbie through a dungeon and use stacking. Explain why it works to them and in what situations it would not work.

Finally

I take PERSONAL offense

And?

You’re blaming the skilled players for making players bad. It’s this exact attitude that’s just so destructive.

By taking this line of thinking, it puts the onus of why players do poorly… on the people who are doing well. It just boggles my mind.

Stacking has ruined player skill levels

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Neko.9021

Neko.9021

I’ve encountered a lot of new or inexperienced players who do not understand why stacking is a viable strategy.
They’ve been mistaught by being carried through dungeons with players who do understand how to stack or through other means such as popular youtubers, streams or other community media that stacking is the easiest and goto tactic to beat a boss.
This causes players to continue to remain uneducated on the bosses basic tactics and continue to depend on being carried by groups that do understand stacking. Meanwhile when they encounter a group not suited to utilize stacking efficiently, they do not understand why it fails and what is expected of them.

What surprised me was the alarming rate that players I was pugging or partying with would immediately call for stacking, even on bosses with moves that punishing stacking. This gave me the impression that the overall skill level of pugs in my absence had gone down.

In closing: Stacking isn’t exactly a problem, I think it’s poor dungeon design but I do not think it’s an immediately destructive to dungeon runs like some claim. It’s an issue that needs addressing on the whole. I do however think it’s teaching inexperienced players poor dungeon skills.

If you want a solution to my issue, when you carry a newbie through a dungeon and use stacking. Explain why it works to them and in what situations it would not work. It won’t take you long and you’ll have the opportunity to improve the dungeon pug skill level considerably. We all win, and if you don’t know… Stop using it till you do.

…………………….

Wuuuuuuuuuut.

WHAAAAAAAT?!

Sorry, I don’t normally get this mad, but this a whole new level of upsetting that I need to comment.

It is not MY fault that players that I PUG with end up as bad players. I take PERSONAL offense to being told that just trying to run a dungeon quickly, even telling people where to go and how the fights work, is somehow me contributing to making players bad.

Kitten you. How dare you blame those of us who have learned encounters of somehow degrading the game as a whole. Were we better off when dungeons were three times as long and we all ranged and kited everything around and kept wiping and res-rushing back? Do you REALLY think those days were better?

They weren’t. I remember them. And players weren’t any better. The only thing that changed was that those who wanted to get better got better. And those who didn’t, didn’t get better. But there was NOTHING of value of running AC and wiping continuously at the burrows or unable to get passed spider queen. There was nothing of value of Arah runs taking hours and constantly wiping on Lupicus. These things did NOT make us better players. In fact I know the players who still refuse to adapt their tactics to Berserker gear or effective Melee pulls, and they’ve moved on to other parts of GW2. And you want to know why? Because using old strats from over a year ago in dungeons that are outdated is kittening painful.

It took a long time just to ingrain in players that Berserker gear was optimal. PUGs are only just slowly starting to realize that not just War-Guard-Mes can be run to good effect in dungeons. Happily, most understand how to kittening stand in the right spot and stack in the right place to make an encounter easier. It took us a long time to get here, but I’m glad at what little progress was made.

And I do not take kindly to kittens like you telling us that we’re making PUGs worse by helping them to get through dungeons in the least painful ways possible. If a PUG wants to get better, it’s their responsibility to get better, NOT MINE.

Cute.

Get wrecked, BG. <3

Also, yes, ANet is aware of it. They briefly commented about it on their GW2 weekly stream, and said something to the effect that it was an interesting development, to see two servers work out a truce in the game.

The purpose of a 3 way fight is to balance out the “stronger” server in situations like this. That’s why there are 3 sides, not just 2.

Also, everyone’s tired of watching BG winning everything and acting so self-righteous about it. We all want you to lose and we want people like you to finally lose so you can all be brought back down to reality. TC and JQ are double teaming, both servers know this, and we have no shame for doing so.

So this is the new norm of Guild Wars 2.

When you want to use LFG and want to see real, experienced players, you have to say “no stacking”.

“Let’s go to my party dude, no kitten .”

I know we want to make pvp enjoyable to every average joe out there but is anyone else with me here that it takes away from the excitement of getting gears that rock for your level and using them on other players at the same level? Maybe im the only one here but I am dissapointed with the same level/gear pvp.

I am very new so im still learning how the pvp works in gw2 so please let me know if theres a different pvp battleground zone that is so seperated from your personal equipment/level. Any reasons why you like structured pvp please help me to like it too. Im all ears.

WvW exists for this sort of thing. sPvP attempts to be “fair” and give everyone access to (mostly) the same stuff. I think it’s a very respectable way to do things.

Elemental Attunement - WHY!!!!

in Elementalist

Posted by: Neko.9021

Neko.9021

Elemental Attunement is possibly the strongest defensive and utility trait in the game. It’s Grandmaster-level worthy. Given that, it is a bit weird because as far as I know, nearly all Eles take it in PvP formats, and it’s the bread and butter of their survivability. Even though it’s very powerful, it’s also borderline necessary in PvP. It probably should be an inherent part of the Elementalist, I feel.

why is ele so squishy?

in Elementalist

Posted by: Neko.9021

Neko.9021

Eles are squishy for mainly these reasons:
-They have twice the weapon skills as the other classes with no investment to do so
-They have immense damage capability if they spec for it
-They have immense healing capability if they spec for it

The latter two, I’m really talking about the extremes of the spectrum. Eles have possibly the highest damage in PvE while also giving out very very good uptime on party Might and Fury, and Eles have some of the strongest regeneration and healing capabilities in the game with insanely high boon uptime on Regeneration and Protection.

Why so much hate for dungeon sellers?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Neko.9021

Neko.9021

There’s an attitude amongst many players, not the hardcore MMO players usually, that the game is there to be experienced. Challenges are there to be faced. Some sort of skill and capability brings success and fun. This is quite different from an attitude that believes the game is there for virtual gold and the challenge and experience is boring. Selling dungeons relies on the second attitude and it offends people with the first attitude. The natural question is why people would spend their real life time buying a path for virtual gain and virtual rewards if they don’t actually enjoy playing the game themselves.

Because they need Arah Tokens to make a Bifrost and don’t want to PUG Arah (among many other reasons such as just wanting the armor or level up or DM Title). There’s not some mystical reason behind why people are buying these. They buy it because they need it for something.

Am I missing something? (Ele)

in Profession Balance

Posted by: Neko.9021

I remember I used to think the exact same thing when I first started. A lot has happened in the hundreds of hours I’ve played the class, and I don’t really know where exactly to specify your line of thinking might be missing something.

But yes, uhhh, a 30 in Fire Ele with Persisting Flames and Fire CDR will do massive damage with Lava Font, that’s good I guess.

Maybe look at Dekeys’ Fractal Ele guides in the Ele Subforum to see high level Ele PvE play. Maybe that will open your mind to how attunement swapping can be useful even in PvE.

Best Single Target Range Damage

in PvP

Posted by: Neko.9021

Neko.9021

This is coming from a ranger, so you know. The pet actually isn’t utilized for max dps, it is put into play to do three things. 1: Keep your opponent in a movement state(so they cannot lock down a position, and hit you with the big stuff)2: To soak up the opponents cc(so they can get away from pet and get to you).3: To basically add that little bit of finish him damage(that extra condition, which is the nail in their coffin).

Now that I got that out of the way i will give you my(this is my own preference, so no trolling)impression. I am bleeder sb level 80 atm. I do very very good damage in both pve as well as pvp. so if you want my answer here it is: best single target range dps falls like this

1: Mage
2: Ranger
3: Hambow warrior

everything else below this isnt important

Again this is my personal preference, im sure someone will come and try to troll it up but hope this helps ya.

A few things:
-I’d suggest Stone Splinters, Zephyr’s Boon, or Elemental Shielding in place of Spell Slinger.
-Don’t take Soothing Disruption. You already have tons of Vigor from Renewing Stamina. Take Cleansing Wave instead.
-For your first Water trait, both Cantrip Mastery and Soothing Wave are good.

The easiest combo is just timing Burning Speed with Lightning Flash. This is a pretty common burst combo for Eles.

Denshee's ToL build?

in Elementalist

Posted by: Neko.9021

Neko.9021

Let’s just hope that, should D/D turn out to be OP, they get the nerfs right instead of driving all Eles into the ground again.

problem is what u wanna shave? signet? cantrips? amu? that build is op… it just isnt clear yet so few days after patch. but believe me. every ppl with a sense of balance playing that build know that it is op.

to find the right spot to shave only that build u need to find a spot that is related to the circumstance and not used in other builds that are fine. but whats exactly the problem? the sum of stuff like on hambow?

We know what it is. It was unviable pre-patch.

The major things that changed were the Signet, Celestial Amulet, and Double Sigils.

Signet helped give the Ele back its sustain it once had. People were pretty shocked to see Eles able to run away with 2000ish HP after the patch dropped, mainly because they hadn’t seen that sort of thing for a year. But those who can remember what life was like before the Signet got nerfed will remember how maddeningly sustainable the Ele could be if it chose to kite enemies to the max. Un-nerfing Signet of Restoration was major. I also think it was a good change – it’s easily the most important skill for several Ele playstyles. A class’ viability often hinges on how good their #6 skill is.

Celestial Amulet getting buffed gave the Ele what it’s always wanted – lots of stats. Before, Eles always ran weird sort of combinations like Valk’s Ammy with Zerker Jewel. Or maybe even a Barbarian jewel. The Ele has always struggled to maintain decent stats in PvP. Now, with the sheer stat inflation of Celestial Ammy, those weaknesses are mitigated substantially. Because low stats were a way to balance out the Elementalist’s power, it also follows that the stronger stats get, the stronger the Elementalist becomes.

Finally, double sigils really boosted the Ele’s playstyle, along with new sigils in general. Generosity Sigil is a great counter to condi specs and the common Energy+Battle sigil combo give an Ele tons of might and dodges. Little changes like this significantly altered the overall power level of the Elementalist to new heights – only the Engi and Warrior got it better. While the Ele does get less sigil slots, the fact that it’s simply easier for the Ele to proc swap sigils than for other classes makes it much stronger.

Runes of Strength also had an impact, but to be honest, I think the changes above combined with the old Strength Runes would have had a pretty similar effect. Eles have always made good use of Strength Runes (once they ACTUALLY WORKED), but they weren’t viable before so it hardly mattered.

I agree, however, that it’s a big problem. The change to Signet was a good one, as its very existence is necessary to the viability of some Ele builds (especially D/D). Celestial Amulet arguably needed the change it got, but at the same time, there’s a good argument to be made that Celestial in general shouldn’t exist. I feel the change to Sigils no longer sharing cooldowns shouldn’t have happened, but it’s too late to undo such a big change now. Also, even though D/D 30 Water 30 Arcana is an annoying build, it’s at least one provably viable build for the Ele at high level play. It would be an incredible shame to take it away after Eles just finally managed to find a place in the meta.

Why so much hate for dungeon sellers?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Neko.9021

Neko.9021

I’ve played since Guild Wars launch and never once dealt with dungeon selling. Personally, I think it’s childish. If you’re already planning on going through the dungeon, you’re already looking for a group. Now you’re charging a fee for the privilege to group with you? In the case you weren’t planning on going through the dungeon and just taxi’ing, I’d question how hard you’d be playing the instance and why you didn’t just go do some other content you actually wanted to do.

But hey, that’s just me.

People usually do a dungeon undermanned for the challenge. They wanted to do something that would really push them to play better. Purple Miku’s twitch stream shows some dungeon soloing. Then, once they’re at the end, they figure they can make some money selling the path to people who don’t want to spend time running the dungeon themselves.

Watch Cmc’s twitch stream to see him play the build in action: http://twitch.tv/cmcgw2

Anyway, to answer your questions:
1. This is a terribly confusing thing and I still don’t quite like how they didn’t explain this. Basically, your armor is completely cosmetic. The weapons themselves carry over but the PvE Stats and Sigils do not. You go up into the PvP Build Menu and select your PvP Amulet (which will give your stats), your Rune set, and your Sigils. Traits can be adjusted here too.
2. To join a map with a friend, you must both be friends together. Then, right click their name when they’re in an arena and join them.
3. Click “Play Now” to join a match. If one doesn’t work, click it again till you find a match you can join.
4. Watch streams. Honestly, cmc’s stream is very informative and has become a really great place for aspiring Eles to learn tech and the basics of PvP strategy. Also, the sPvP forums have some good guides about concepts such as Builds and Comps.
5. Play what you enjoy, not just what’s overpowered or flavor of the month. I’d suggest looking at Dantes’ compiled list of builds and try some of those in Hotjoin. Classes that are easy to pick up and play are Warrior, Spirit Ranger, and Necro. Engis have a steeper learning curve but are quite good and easy to play once you understand it. Thieves are actually a bit hard to be effective with in PvP but they’re still very strong (and basically necessary for a competitive team because of their mobility). Bunker Guard is a necessity but can be dull to play. Mesmer is OK. Roughly speaking, if I had to pick what’s “most viable”, it would probably be Warrior.

interesting, that is quite usefull I guess not to waste dodges on the initial heart seekers.

But its the backstabs that I have trouble with, they stealth stab and I’m dead.
Or when I can predict their every move they stealth and teleport away.
What do you do against a thief who has 3 teleports 5x stealth and good condi removal and regeneration while in stealth? He always teleports away while in stealth making it impossible to pinpoint his exact location when he’s in stealth. Downed him twice but he stealth rezzed himself and then I figure I’ve had enough go fight another one of his buddies and he backstabs one-shot me.
Heartseeker spamming noobie thieves aren’t the ones that bother me. Its the skilled thieves that cause 100% of my deaths in 12 matches that bother me.

Nevertheless thanks for the guide and sorry for the bit of raging on my side.

If you’re running alone in something like solo roaming, it’s arguably better than Cleansing Wave, however.
