I also wanted to point out this, but its actually hard to put it in words that actually have an effect on others.
What the game needs is a variety of “combat roles”. Classes feel way to general to my taste and i am sure a lot others mean this when they simply say “combat is boring”. It is not truly true, but they probably wish for more customization.

*The problem with guild wars 2 is, that you might get more tanky or supportive, but the trade of is insane, for the gain. While you can get along with a few downed states when you go full glass.

I am sure if they would take out Downed state, but you could not be 1 hitted, the game would actually have a LOT more place for “support” classes and builds.*
I am sure it would be more fun.

I am also sure adding more options beside dodge, that could prevent you from getting 1 shot, (like warriors have shield block and few classes have parry, there should be more “general ones” to) would make the combat truly more active.

Spoke my mind, when i say bring back trinity i generalize. I dont actually want a “WoW” style of class or combat system. That would need a totall remake of the game anyway.

What i want is to have combat roles….ACTUAL ROLES, not this “want to be” roles.
Trough Tera has roles, combat still feels A LOT MORE ACTIVE. Bosses dont 1 shot you but, you will fail sooner or later if you dont dodge a few big attacks atleast. Not to mention you can atleast spot the kittening instagib attacks and react in time.

“1. make dodge a option, not a requirement, depending on build. If you want to run DPS, learn to dodge. If not, allow us to actually make a stand.

2. replace Defiant with a system that give longer recharges on CC when used against strong mobs.

3. turn GT support into projectiles that bounce or AOE around the target. Thus allowing someone to keep attacking a mob while supporting those near it.

4. provide a stat for boons equivalent to condition damage."

Changes like this dont need a FULL redesign of the game, but still would improve the game and its combat system by 400000% .

Game constantly crashing since pc reinstall

So my game is constantly crashing about like every 30min to 2 hours.
Not only that but my fps is extremely low compared to my pc build, and compared to my original game experiance since beta of the game. Today i was at the sunless and was like 5 fps…didnt seen fps lag like this since early Aion.
Also i have an fps lag it goes to like 1-2 fps every 5-10 min time, then it goes back to normal.

This problem started when my pc didnt start up windows 2 days ago and i reinstalled it. right now i am using 32 bit windows 7 instead of a 64 bit one, trough i dont think it should be a problem, since my Vid card memory is high.

My pc is something like this :
Amd Fx 8350 Eight core processor 4,02 Ghz
4gb ram 3,25 in use.
Amd Radeon hd 6950 2 gb gddr
I had to change my motherboard a few months ago and its an Ashrock n68 vs3fx.

I installed DirectX from webinstalled (should be the latest) and Installed the last driver (not the beta one) from official site to Vid card….
What am i missing?

Or maybe a game repair helps ? -_-

Greetings all, and i apologize for my terrible English in advance.

First of all before hating this post or the idea by default listen to my reasoning, and you will see it wont change your most beloved game, and game play to worse.

Second, i would like to point out, that the reason behind taking away trinity was wrong to begin with.

1, Trinity gives characters a certain combat role , that was needed because of the game mechanic to succeed.
2,Gw2 had a system mechanic that does not call for these roles.
3, Why take it away then?

Your “excuse” to cripple the game play and combat variety to this extent was : Players dont have to wait so long for party and certain roles. (to do anything in general)
Which was a wasted effort to begin with, since you dont need those roles to succeed.
(not sure the devs were aware how there own system worked)

As a side note : LFG wait time is higher then anyone could dream of (to my opinion and years of experiance. Let it be pug or guild team or friends on ts.)
As non side note. Generally players tend to pick certain classes and “setups”, because its more effective. And that is like picking a healer instead of a “dps” class.
So basically you taken the the variety of roles a player can take up in combat, and further custumize its game play or combat, or generally his character, and achived the same favoritism.

And before anyone gets into the point of denying this i suggest to look at the forums and realize the 80% of the posts is around this theme, its the root of the frustration of the 80% of the players, that do bother about the game to the point to look at least the official forums, and wish to see others opinion. So its not rambling chant.

Dont get me wrong, i do not favor trinity in general, but in this situation it would not do any wrong to the game, but it would bring back a lot of fun to many players.

For example there is a champion, you dont need a tank or healer to bring it down, but you feel like you want to support your friends, and you go healer. Does THIS destroy the game? I dont think so. What it does is : You feel your character more personal, your own. It becomes an extension of yourself, because it does what you want to, it is like you want to, and it is not forced to be a general all around thing that all classes are right now. (or more like smacking machines all in zerkers)

Yes players would do try to bring a healer and a tank in each party, BUT they could chose not to, as they do right now. So you cant blame trinity or healer or game mechanic, when its the players behavior is to blame…no it seems not even the most caring game planning and mechanic can counter human behavior. I hope you understand this Anet….(at least not in all aspects of the game).
And NO, we dont have currently viable “support” or “tank” character or character setups. No matter how hard you struggle you wont be a viable healer as elementalist in current meta. And they wont bring you to dungeons or pvp to heal, they will bring you down for a certain aspect your character has (like condition removal), which is not your intent, and you wont feel more useful because of it. And will know, that you are not there to heal, so spare yourself the lies and admit it, “there are no viable support or tanks”.

I am looking forward to all your opinions on this topic, and i hope the people that need to read this do read it, and think about what they have done.

I have made several posts on topics like this, and most of them got deleted, because of excessive censorship from moderator side. (for no real reason i think that would be untrue-_-)

First of all : This topic proves Anet was wrong, in seeing trinity as the root of the problem. (A problem that Lfg. takes a lot of time. )

So basically :
-They take trinity and the ability to play differing combat roles. (crippling the class and combat system)
-To help players in general game play, so that any combination of classes can do anything.

Problem with that : You can do anything with any class anyway already, since the game itself is designed so.
(when you said we do not, need dedicated healer, or tank, we thought any class can do anything, in contradiction you taken all roles.)

I mean the perfect example is There is this champion we want to kill, we can do it, we dont have tank or healer, but i would so love to go and support my teammates because i feel like it….but i cant)

So basically the game is crippled by its very core…not even god can help this now.
They can only go deeper and mess up things more.

Anet decided a lot of things. And didnt think them trough.

I still say they : TAKEN, away trinity to GIVE us less wait time in lfg, and generally for others.
Did they achive this? NO . I wait 3 hours or a lot more for party.
AS GENERAL GAMEPLAY YOU DONT EVEN NEED COMBAT ROLES, THEN WHY TAKE IT AWAY?
It would have been like this : Nah we dont need a healer or tank to take this champion down, but i want to support the others, so i go healer. 100% more fun (whispers) . I CAN BE WHAT I WANT TO BE BAM ITS RPG…no you CANT. because Anet decided to take all combat roles from you instead of making all classes be able to be any of them.

To me all classes are general all araund bs that is boring to play. SO YES I SUPPORT THIS.

Side note : Anet you think wait time in LFG problems root was Trinity…kittening SHAME that you call yourself developers.

I was wondering, what are the most played / underplayed classes right now…Then i realized its still propably Warrior-Guardian-Thief (maybe ranger?)

Then i realized i am more insterested in what the Koreans and other East nerds play mostly. I always played usually what they tend to so i am wondering anyone got tips or infos?

Hi. I was of for a few months and wondering what to roll, so i was thinking, what is the highes burst character right now?

And i say burst here, troug might say dps, but it would not describe what i am thinking.
I am thinking abaut the factor to kill stuff fast.
So myquestion is, what is the class that kills stuff quite fast?

And i dont mean situational damage on xy…if something has a high damage it should have generally always or not?

you see the problem with this “o the time you have to react is much lower” is, that the game is utterly broken at this part (for my taste) and is killing pve instances.

Why? Boss attacks are hardly visible at all. I dont even want to mention all that kitten effect going araund makes it IMPOSSIBLE to spot (exluding some cases).
I remember that howler kitten in Ac, that has a scream attack…that is supposed to be frontal, yeah easy to dodge…i did…in fact i was standing behind it and got insta gibbed. Not once but like constantly anywhere anyone in my team was standing.
Melee in instance…you are joking right….no kittening way i would play it.
Look at Terra, the game might be second rate (to some) but this is clearly working a LOT BETTER there.

Chill and other cc yeah….you can use it on melee in pvp after they used gap closer, but you didnt read all the posts : they have 10 times more closers then “range” have makers. Not to mention there are clense skills, OR not to mention melee also have those cc-s to counter your cc basically…Or more likely a hammer warr will perma cc you and chill wont even be any use to you at all -_- your argument is invalid.

And to add to that i would like to say Anet : Taking away trinity, to lessen the time on LFG, was like cutting of your arms because of a bruise.
It was NOT the root of the problem, and it did NOT help at all. We are still waiting for players (in the past A LOT MORE then in other mmo-s). And no destroying “combat roles” did not improve the gameplay or classes, it only left them crippled and boring (to my taste)

Solution : Instead of taking aways all roles, give all classes all roles, but make them pick 1 for each battle….

No matter how you change traits or do anything it wont change the fact you are still auto attack killing mobs as warrior (excluding orr) in the 99% of the time. And no trying to perform to do better is not needed…it kind of performs as well as dodging and jumping and healing and kitten….

If you truly want aachange in what yo are dooing yyou need a certaint trit build with certaint gear and stats and food and kitten…without those conditions (that are takes time even after 80 , like farming epic kittens in wow or dunno what they do now, but atleast there you can change to dps from healer without them….but here you cant) you will still do the same 3-4 kitten …..

Somethimes i feel the game more simple then lol.

Have not palyed for months, and i think i might play again…considering some decent class to play with, but cant pick…

Right now i only play range in pve because of the broken instagib mechanic i hate and detest, so i would like to play a class that can go melee (since its usually more practical pvp wise) but can be usefull in range for pve use.
So i considered Engineer, but i still remember why i hated it….it only has 3 weapons you can skin, and has a hobo sack…..all toher classes usually look 100% times better and can wary there looks a lot more…..

So do we still have the hobo sack effet? Or you can turn it off?

A lot of you here forget, trough casters can cast at melee range, they are not “melee”. Whitch means they are not ment to cast at melee range, for a reson…they have less tools to use them melee.
For example, armor, healt, heals, boons, gap makers, condition removers ect…
So playing melee is still more rewarding in pvp.

“You should take a look at how the dungeon meta works in this game. Speed runners do go melee in glasscannon builds pretty much exclusively. They use tricks like pinning to mobs/boss into a wall so they can maximize their dps. They survive on active defenses such as blocks, aegis, blinds, stuns and reflects, and as they’re all stacked up, they share theirs party boons and buffs without needing to call everyone together. At the top level of PvE, ranged is considered essentially useless along with defensive stats, to the degree that the meta players will consider you a leecher, looking to for a free ride just for investing in them. "

This is not how the game should work…atleast it was not intended to work this way. .. Ubusing the system to prevail is WRONG !!! If you cant win normally rip the game…or atleast pve.

Right now i am considering in going a class that can be Range or Melee at will. I utterly hate pve as melee, the terrible absolutely broken mechanic of Mobs attacks destroyed pve for me. So i prefer pure range – support or extreme tanky (that does not exist anymore) character for pve and a decent stand alone melee for pvp.
Any tips?

I wont make another “moan” post, since they only attract trolls and blindfolded fans ( a fan is not a problem, blindfolded is. )
The game has its downs and ups, i wont list my all my full opinion on it, (that would take days to write down and analize, so that all can understand i am right in the end).

Instead i will point out a way, you can all go down, if you are a bit open and get to the same thouts and opinion i did.
For instance, look at the posts on the forums (yes forum does matter, dont even dare to say they dont…its a place where the community shares its opinion) .

They clearly show, the problem is not with the game generally. The basic features are amazing. Events, animations, map design…the general concept is where mmo-s should be heading, but looking at the posts you realize, almost every third player complains abaut the mechanics, abaut the system that is behind combat, but if you do really go a bit deeper you will see what most of these players think deep inside is : the combat system is boring and kitten as it is.

First of all, untill you hit 80 and start specializing a “build”, with items (since traits alone wont get you anywhere,) you cant even do anything but spam your skills and dodge basically. No matter what or who says it, its an auto attack fest, exspecially with some classes. You see, by taking aways trinity (for a reson that actually still exists even by eliminating the “source” of the problem -atleast you think it is the source Anet but its not-) you have made all classes feel the same, and combat with all the classes feel the same.
It didnt matter that i played endgineer or mesmer, it felt the same, i did the same, just used differing visuals.
I wont get into argument on this, wont matter what you say, i can prove it to you with statistics, that like 50% of the players that left left saying “combat is boring, the game is boring”, i dont find a class i like" Atleast 27 of my friends left the game early on after like 1 month. The rest of the ppl i play online games with usually left after 3-6 months.

“dont like it dont play it” …yeah sure…you end up playing alone in the end…they wont keep up a server for a fanbase trust me…(and they did use gemstore)
In the end i am really sad, that i can barely make a post like this (pointing in a direction) because the last 3-4 post i made 3-4 months ago was deleted….forum censorship is hardcore…Anet wont let anyone say “bad” things abaut the game….Thats all i wanted to say….gl hf. Exuse my terrible english.

Greetings fellow adventurers!

After big patch, i decided to roll back to the game (i am still quite furious abaut the resons i left, but i decided to get over the billion kitten that kittenes me of abaut the game).

But right now i am not sure what is worth playing. Sure sure play what you enjoy…whell i dont enjoy any of the classes right now after logging in, so i decided to pick a feature i enjoy. And that is toughness. I must add its not survivability, i dont mean active defence like mobility, vigor, or dodges, runing araund, but pure passive (or the capacity to buff passive defences, like block or heal, at best).
So anyone got ideas what classes are the *toughest" right now? (excluding warrior, it feels horribly boring)

I personally think “taking away” trinity is still bad. How can TAKING AWAY can improve ANYTHING.

Do they understand WHAT THEY ACTUALLY TAKEN AWAY? They took the combat roles and the costumizability of characters. They simplifyed combat to like consoles.
Not to mention they did this to help you get party….when in fact you are LFG to certaint areas places dungeons for days somethimes. But atleast more time for sure thne some other mmo.

As for Tera….the most fun combat i have ever played. Gear still mattters. Personal skill still matters. Class still matters. Most balanced and fun combat i ever played with Gw1.

Cant use 0 at Card Number

Hi!
So basically i wanted to buy gems for character transfer, but somehow my saved cards information is lost, and when i try to fill out the information it wont accept 0 at Card number.
Since i cant even control c it in i cant buy gems.

I am using an Enermax vireless mini keyboard (german layout by def-used on hungarian setup).
My 0 is supposed to be right before 1. But does nothing. When i use the “marked for 0” after 9 it put in a ö . Any solution?
Switch back to english-german till i put in kitten?

That might be true, i admit it i did not want to fuss abaut details (i do like to, trough thats a problem usually). I basically wanted to make an example “how” its changing.

and i agree, that second artwork seems a bit off to actuall Sylvari-s. You can see “Anime” tipe of artworks and all kinds of artworks, but that one was official back in the days, so thats why i wanted to post that one.

Even so if you purely focus on the depth and atmosphere of the artwork (or might as well says scetch of the game-s visuals) it clearly is not as good as the “original” artwork, they made us wait for. And even considering its still changing in theme and style…i am not sure its a good thing.

Could anyone point me to a shout build?

So my Warrior hit lv 80 and i was wondering….what can it actually do at all?

Leveling is faar from any part of the actuall game…actually.

So could anyone point me to a place, where builds for Dungeons, general farming, pvp are listed?
Or something like that? With minor explains to them, or gearlist preferation?

Yeah, i can understand all your points. I also had many issues with the NPC “acting” and theme.
I must admit. Gw1 had a lot better selection. Not to mention the cutscenes are basically a waste of effort. The “action” oriented cutscenes are a lot better. I even seen 1 in Gw2, dont understand why did they not keep “what is good in gw1” …as actually they promised this, almost exacly like this -_-

At any rate, i could start on with combat to almost any other part of the game, but i started this on artwork vs current game theme and wish to keep it that way.

So basically i agree with Dr Ritter. The game theme was alredy altered to worse before release, why make it worse? Dont devs see its bad for the game? More profit by more “kids style?” . I dont think so. Guild Wars was alredy a bit more directed at “elder” or more indepth fantasy players. Why destroy the original community, that was alredy faithfull, to get new non certaint ones?

Ill post 2 pictures, and check for yourself, why i am talking abaut Old-New artwork and ingame reality….
The first is the original Sylvari concept, that was called “sidhe” (something like fey or fary). I really liked it. They look exotic, but still generally adventuring type.
The second one is a “new” reworked Sylvary concept, that is the current one. Its is also fine, buti its way to “cute” and “enchanted” . It does not look like a real “adventuring” character. More like a “for show”.
The last is the well known “trailer” screenshot, but i chose it because its still perfectly represents what igame is actually like compared to the amazing artwork.

Toxic seems to be no good.
Not sure what colors are that give you this armor color. Did try most of them i promise.

THe crowns is good and fitting. The chest seems to be fitting, but maybe the Norn cultural is also good. Rest seems hardcore to get…even alike ones.

Hoy. I was wondering to roll an character i am willing to main after my thief, and wanted to find the mood for it, so roamed the web for fantasy pictures and waited for the right moment, when the mood strikes me “that is what i want!!!”. And it did. I rolled a warrior, and its progressing fine, so now i want to look cool.

Could anyone tell me what armor looks like this in game? Or “how” could i obtain a look like this?

Here i stand after 6-7 years of waiting for the brilliant game called Guild Wars 2, and i am still waiting for the thing i was waiting for. That was shown to us.

Dont get me wrong, turn on the “Fear not this Night” extended version from youtube, and read this. You will realize, i am not here to qq moan or troll aimlessly…i am here to help this game. Why? Because i have faith in the devs and the company. Why? Because they provided Gw1 whitch was not as brilliant at first, but they realized the mistakes they made and improved the game to the point, it became amazing with the first expansion.

Long story short, the main topic on this thread is Artwork Vs current game theme and art style.
If you waited for the game with me and seen them, you know what i am feeling, for sure. You might be hooked up to the game (like me), but you still feel the same strange tingly feeling.
If you did not, you propably seen artworks from the game, and even trough you feel amazed by the stunning detailed maps, (that i might say are the best any mmo can offer right now), or the fluid and well made animations, but you also get the feeling, this is not exacly what i assumed from the “preview”, that would have been cooler.

I wont post all the masterfull artworks i want to make as example…anyone can find them anywhere.
So, my question is (trough i wont make this as a question thread, since i am more interested in your opinions then awnsers on this) Why is Gw2 artwork so extremely deep feeling, when the game itself feels a kittenildish, and broad?
When i look at the pictures of Daniel Dociu i get this deep fantasy feeling. When i look at the game, i get this “Mainstream general mmo” feeling.
Guild Wars was supposed to be special even among the mmo-s. (like the first one).

Exuse my terrible english. I humbly ask for your opinions.
Would the game be better if it would be a bit more closer to the artwork style?

So. After speding my youth Everquest 1-2, Wow, Lineage 2, Ragnaroc Online, Eve online, Warhammer online, Phantasy star online and all the unimaginable exndless mmo-s that are out there Guild Wars 1 was the most excellent i met (on the same scale as Tera-s combat).
I guess its not a wonder i waited Guild Wars 2 like a miracle, hering what direction is it heading. And i am still waiting…why? Let me explain it to you why i feel like that. (and i am not alone in this.)

1, The game feels like a palace, that is half completed, so it was rushed to be atleast a house. So its a house, not a palance, that could have been.

2, You devs sead, we get what we liked in Gw1. The best thing most of my friends and communities araund me sead was : Guild Halls, and GvG-s.
-The reson i dont understand* why Guild Halls are still not in is simply….you gave us SOO MOCH temporary content that needs like 50 times more time and effort to make then a kittenty permanent Guild Hall, that is fun and always to use, not just a decoration feature, like most of the game is becoming.*

3, BY claiming, that you can use anything araund you (dephending on what class you are) you made a fool out of yourself. Picking up a rock, (that lies on the ground randomly) and throwing it….is fine, but nothing really special…why would i do it, if i can throw a fireball with full trait and gear bonuses?
Most palyers thout it will be like (it is in the new dragon age) " you shoot the woonden support holding the cealing and it falls on the enemy" ( as an Elementalist you can burn it, as a warrior you can bash it, and an engineer you can blow it up with a c4 or smt).
-The current system of “interaction” is totally wasted effort. I find picking up sticks and metal bars pointless waste of time. Its not cool. Its unmiaginative compared to hat we hoped (and you ead ii to be) for. Again it feels like, that you had the idea, but did not make it as you planned to be. But then again, you have time to make kittenty mario dungeons, when players are here to play an Massively Multiplay Online Role Playing Game. Not Mario Online.

4, The weapon system seems fine, to a point. It is decent atleast, so i wont bother to explain why it is not as good as it could be, lets claim that it is good.
But still again, not even the half of weapons you intended are in the game. Not to mention how extremely dull it is, when you are “auto attacking” in your 80% of the time or use 3 skill from 4 weapon skillset ( 20 skills not moch anyway) and 2 random utility, that is mostly not utility but dmg-buff- or debuff basically.
I dont want to sound someone that is complaning, since i am…Classes have a small selection of weapons, give them more….really not hard to give classes weapons, propably takes less time, then to make whole maps and skillsets for Chrismas.

5, Classes are boxed in, feels not like my character at all. In Gw1 your hero interacted with the world, and not just “chat” with others. Anyone who came up with the “cutscenes” idea in Gw2….fire him instantly. In Gw1 i totally felt, that it was ME who saves the world, not a bunch of namess dudes alongside the Destiny-s Edge.
(i understand that you want to keep the action to the actual gameplay itself, but its wont reach the same effect)
As for boxed in, classes are uncostumizable, You took trinity away, so we can benefit from having no roles, but you forget you dont only benefit from it. Or more liely, you dont only have negative effects from trinity
No need for “tank” is cool (trough takes a lifetime to find a party anyway so its pointless at this point, a totally waste of effort from this side), but you forget how cool its is to take up a role that only you can provide to your team, and feel usefull or essential for a skill only you have. Seriously the non trinity is making the classes and character feel the same. I feel no costumization in them even with traits and gear and kitten. Not to mention that classes are not only boxed in with “what they can do”, or what combat role they can take in combat (there are no roles….basically), but even the gear they have is limited to like 4-5 weapons, and they cant even use all weapons or armors, so basically you are forced to that be a set in thing.
No costumization = no fun. Players do like to set up how they play, and by that i mean Weapons, skills, look, combat role (the game is like 70% abaut combat for kitten sake)
-If you really want to improve the “combat” dont discard combat roles, but give ALL combat roles to ALL classes. That makes them interesting not plain.

I could ramble for days somethimes abaut stuff that “dissapointed” me in Gw2, but since its like not even out to me, i will end it here.
I am hoping for an “expansion” that can imrpove the game to the thing it was originally intended. Afterall Gw1 was only truly amazing after Factions to.

Hi peeps, so i was struggling to pick a class, and run trough the net to get some inspiration, realized i want soemthing like this.

Dunno what class this is trough, seems like a Warrior, but if i think a bit, it might be a Ranger….(considering the howling skills?And instead of charge jumps in?)
It might be a ranger afterall, ofhand is axe if i see right, as for armor….i dont know….could be anything.
Has no pet…for sure…could be put away or not?

So anyway, what class is this? Warrior or Ranger?

Basically my question supposed to be something, that you almost awnsered.

I wanted to know, if Mesmer can still be a good pick for me if i overlook the Illusion and Phantasm Cons.
But not sure if it is, since you assured me, the problems i had with playing Mesmer are still the same and they are real.

So right now i am still struggling to make a good class pick. Sadly Warrior and Guardian is only in my second tier of choices, but with mesmer sorted there is nothing left to do.
My pros on Warrior
-Are mostly based on the look of his gear (since it can use a lot of weapons including rifles, and shields that are my fav weapons.)
-Its tough
My cons are
-That its basically melee and this game is totalyl not melee friendly. (you can go range but its not really detailed, on this class, and is boring spam dmg skills all the time)
-Its a generally boring class to play,
-There are a LOT of other Warriors.
And the list is almost the same with Guardian, trough it can not use rifles or longbows (lack of range) but is more tough and has a lot of utility and support skills, that is a really good thing.

So i am REALLY not sure what to play anymore :P

I am sure you all had those moments, when you cant decide what class to play and it anchors down all your thouts for weeks, but still cant get on with it.
Right now i am on this part.

I alredy have a thief and its nice, but i really want something different. For example, my friend is playing Engineer, the other is Necromancer, and soon ill have an Elementalist or Ranger). Did not want to roll one of those, (trough i thout on engineer i always realize, i like having weapon skins, instead of kits way to moch to play one…i think.
Besides, i am a “look above all” player.

So i romaed forums, gatheting info, and imperessions abaut how classes are currently, and realized, i dont know kitten abaut this game…even trough i play since like beta.

So faar the classes on the top of my list are Ele (proly not after reading how bad they become) Mesmer and Engineer." Each has its pros and cons, but the “kits” weight way to moch and i am considering Mesmer now.
My cons with Mesmer are :
-Cloth does not really look so well to my taste (i prefer heavy armor looks, those tipical sci fi looking armors, like in the “new” superman-man of steel)
-Weapons are way to big usually to fit visually to cloth armors (all exept staff)
*-Illusions and Phantasm are a key to playing the class and man they can be souch a pain in the kitten . Seriously it was the reson i abandoned my lv 38 Mesmer. They have to run all the way to the enemy, and reach him. Pointless on a cliff. (and you DO fight a lot on differing levels in the game…a LOT) They have really low hp, even if i trait it, and die from random aoe constantly, making a lot of skills and builds crappy, if they die, and they die a lot before effecting anything. They also react considerably “slow” compared to a warriors hundred blades, by the time you cast it and they react an other class is alredy done with a skill like 3 sec ago.

-For last con i wouls say support ability, trough i am not sure in that, its what i heard so faar. sureliy i dont see any decent healing skills on them (like Eles have)

Pros :
-Cosiderably less boring to play then a Warrior or Thief (for example).
-Has a lot of utility (unlike eles)
-A bigger weapon selection then most classes, more chance to costumize the character. Counts a lot (to me)
-Not so many players play it.(you are more wanted?)

So anyway. Right now i am looking for …i dont know what…
A support? Or a more direct damage class? What is Thief afterall anyway? Mostly i am forced to spam cluster bomb for finishers for low dmg, and dagger for bleed and a moderate dmg, unlike condi necros and kitten.* I feel really underpower in pve. I dont want that, i want a really usefull class to play, that is not as boring as a Warrior can be (trough thats the best looking character in the game)*

I dont mean the things themself are high thech…they might not be, but they do LOOK like that. Besides, its an item-monster-envoirement-skin….wont really mean a game changing thing.

Agreed, that is the reson i feel the world (or the worlds technology side) undetailed. Basically Engineer is a “charr only” thing, that is supposed to be Asura atleast as moch.

Not to mention there are alredy so many important parts that are filled with this " high sci fi" anyway. That is the reson if ffeel a bit strange when playing all araund the game…..its not really in the game….more like its a Non Player interactable side of the game (or technologi). It should be a part of playable content as moch as Charr stuff.

I dont say its a MUST have, but i would be really cool…..its just look anyway. There are many “kittened” skins and kittens alredy anyway :P

So i was on my way home from work, and got bored on Eliphas Levi-s boring history of Magic, so i checked my phone and i realized i still didnt seen the “new” Superman Movie (the man of steel). So i went for it. And i liked it, it also made me think a bit, and realized some things abaut GW2.

-I did not like classes lately, because the world is filled with techical stuff, playing a guardian is not really a big deal anymore, since its more abaut catapults, death rays, ships that get a dragon down, then your personal “skill” (your characters)
Its the same reson i like engineer more and more.
-This direction is not bad, in fact, if you look at Mass effect even “future” heroes can be cool and fun to play, they dont necessary have to swing a sword, not does it matter if they can cast spells or throw granades….its more abaut the personality, choices and most of all the atmospere of the game, that reacts to you.
-I dont say we need assault rifleman and cryo operatives in Gw2, in fact, dont even push the Sci Fi theme to moch, or will kill the game, but some sort of addition to the current one would be really needed.
-But why? (would most ppl ask). I say, the world is way to filled with Asura (future like) technology. It does need to set in a bit. Having an engineer class (that is clearly more like Charr engineering then Asura) is fine, but they seem a bit underdesigned. I know it all over the forums, but still, if you drop in a class think things trough. Not all want the old school wrench in the face tipe of class. Give them an asura lazer for kitten sake. Or a chaingun sentry golem thingy, that s clearly asura looking.
Lets not even mention that lack of real technology themed items. (there are more now but still really low) There are really cool things out in the world and they can match with fantasy real nice. (few picks under the post) Or enemies. Or maps. THe new PvP map was a good start…needs more filler objects….its a bit plain…like Gw2 totally lacks technologi based theme in detail.
As a side note sory for terrible english (not my prime)

I say, if you dare making a totally new gameplay system for Gw2, do dare experiment with new content!!

Good to see almost everyone is negative about their crappy ‘waste of new content’ jumping puzzles and only a couple of fanboys who will consider anything delivered by anet as 2nd coming of jesus appreciating their jumping puzzles. Hopefully they see this thread and start delivering the rpg element of this game instead of yet another mini this and that… How is it that in close to a year we received only one significant thing, fractals? First of all exuse my terrible english.
Second, i hope this topic does not sound, like moaning, it is ment for constructive feedback, and a measurement of opinions on this topic.

So basically, i got a bit nostalgic, and started to watch Xena the Warrior Princess again, and realized a LOT of things, while playing my own Warrior in Gw2 (or ranger actually).

First of all, Dual Wield feels terrible to me. It does look cool, if you dont fight, but the second you go in battle (and the more chaotic the battle gets, the worse it is) it looks terribly…crap. Thats the best word for it.
Might as well say dull, but its not simply irritating, but feels, underdesigned, and a bad solution. What? The terrible fact, that you basically dont use your offhand weapon, untill you actually use a “skill” of 4-5. Whitch usualyl have a high cd. (so you dont really use it often) Not to mention, the offhand weapon, does not have an “auto attack” , like main hand weapon, when in fact it also should have, since its the same weapon, and should be able to perform the same things as your main hand weapon can…maybe weaker, but still. (and vice versa…the main hand should be able to use the ofhand “skills” to)

I mean, since when cant you parry with an sword? Only because its in oyur main hand and not in the off? Or why cant you simply strike with your offhand weapon?
I been fencing and dooing a lot of tradition keeping (as Hungarian) and i know a lot of swordplay technices. Not to mention the instense fantasy i read and see.

One of the basic rules of melee combat is : If you have a spare hand, use it. Have a shiled for blocking attacks, so you can attack and defend to in the same time. (or after attack you can block the incoming one)
Or use a weapon in it, so you can attack from 2 sides at once, enforcing your opponent, to use 2 “weapons” unless he want to be beaten instantly. (not to mention most weapons can parry to, so they can act as defence and offense to).
What you use, wont matter, as long as you have “more” opportunities then your enemy. If you have the same, then it comes down to skill, speed and strenght and wit. (skill).

2 handed weapons offer other benefits in melee, that counterbalance this. Like reach, and weight.
The other thing abaut weapons is (exspecially swords and maces-hammers) is that they can be mostly used in 1 or 2 hands. I am not talking abaut the Ba sta rrd swords (thats the official name pls dont filter it -_- ) that are an 2 handed sword basically, but can be used in 1 hand to, if you are strong enough, i am talknig abaut those tipically 1 handed swords, that have the hilt to be used with 2 hands for more power,mobility and speed. So using an 1 handed weapon with 2 hands also has benefits that counterbalance the odds.

So i cant simply understand, why is it good, to simply hold a weapon in ofhand, and do nothing with it, while you chopping with the other one….kills the purpuse of having 2….
I could go in more detail abaut, what flaws i find in melee combat in the game, but i am not actualyl here to make it feel “realistic”, even this topic is only for the sole reson : REalistic or not, the Dual Wild fighting looks really bad! Totally odd, destroys my mood, enytime i see it.
I try not to mention animations, since i love the way characters move using 2 handed hammers, but Great Sword fighting looks terrible for my taste. (exspecially spinning movements, try not to force it…its looks stupid)

So thats what i mostly wanted to say. The other thing i would say is just my personal wish : More weapons pls. Gief ranger a chakram . Warriors, rangers, thieves a “short sword” like sword that can be used with 2 hands, giving them a mobile, swift combative fighting mode. (Btw, just look at almost ANY movie and you see it constantly, that heroes use a sword in 2 hands, and then use it in 1 hand…)

After rushing trough it yesterday, i kind of got in a good mood.
Trough the first thing that come to my mind is not positive, i still cant disregard the 80% of the article, that states awesome updates. (The updates i was looking forward like, since the start of the game,. Not to mention, the demand of these things was clearly stated on forums.)

So first of all i thout : Sigh, i dont need more jumping puzzles, i just cant understand, why they enforce these “platformer” part of Gw on us. I have no problem with them, as long as there is decent and normal content to. The problem with it is, thakittens the only content, they push on us lately, and the kitteninual update on Adventure box is another proof of that.
Summa Summarum : I have no problem with “platformer” parts, as long as it wont take the place from normal content. But it seems it does -> Going wrong way.

As second, looking at the pictures, the visuals seem to improve. Not as Graphically, but as in style. I hope it conclused medim and cloth armors, not only weapons and mobs or zones.

As third “New Skill and Traits”. FINALLY . I personally was lost in the Class system of Gw2, since i palyed Gw1 and it was amazing compared to the considerably “plain” system. Even if you count in trait system and anything you can think of. A decent gamer gets bored in like 3 months, even after 2 alts, and running dungeons constantly with “new” and new builds. The gameplay itself wont really change, no matter how you trait,build, gear. Its not impacting the “gameplay” as moch as it should be.
So i was extremely happy seeing, the “new skill and trait (and weapon?)” announcement. It was grandly demanded, by the better part of the community, that wants to improve this game. We can finally make a lot of builds. (hopefully)

Rewards : YESS. Finally there will be a reson to kill hard foes on “normal” maps. Its a really good improvement. (i repeat improvement!) Not to mention the “megaevent”. Sounds awesome. Events like “karka invasion” will finally impact he world a LOT more, and offer rewards more suited i guess.
Dungeon rewards….sounds decent, we will see how it works out.
Unique,bound crafting mats…sounds interesting, but i personally think crafting is underdesigned right now. Not really impacting the game, as moch as it could,should be. But the idea of obtaining them sounds fun, i encurage it…yes do detail crafting a LOT more. This is a good start!
“Crafting Taken to 500!” …This is the part i mentioned above actually. Detailing crafting. Trough i imagined it a differeant way. Will see how, this works out.

WvWvW….i personally dont care. Its a mindless zerging, compared to the amazing L2 castle sieges i experianced. I have a whole thread abaut, how it could be improved, but i am sure, Anet has his mind set on this…and as long as it goes that way, i wont care, even if I LOVE large scale warfare.

So i personally think, this concludes it mostly…correct me if i am wrong anywhere. All the “news” seem to be good, it feels like, the promised land is coming closer day by day, patch my patch. “My expecttations of big things” seems to be well placed, Anet seems to keep its promise…this time. Any opinions?

Hi!
Basically i started playing after a half year of pause, and now i am grinding up my warrior to 80. I sead, the hell with it, pve is boring a bit, lets pvp, and level later.

So i go to the heart of the mists look araund, try some match with hammer and mace-shield for disabler build….but was terrible. I looked araund and started to wonder, i might should roll some lv 2 character for pvp only maybe. (i can level it later anyway, if i feel so)
I dont really 5v5 (i liked it in gw1, but its not even nearly the same in gw2).
I assume in wvwvw zerg it wont matter at all, what class you are.
And there is Spvp? or how oyu call it? That 15? (or its 10?) v 15 maps.
Anyone got some tips, what are the best classes for there? I been thinking Ele and Ranger.
Ele seems fun for support and utility, also decent in pve.
Ranger seems cool looking, and decent long range damage. But bad in pve and must rely on his pet.

So any opinions? Tips? What classes are most viable?

We are not talking abaut, loving them or not, thats an pointless discussion. Some do some not….
We are talking abaut : THe “off” content is grabbing the game for itself, from the main.
For 1, this is supposed to be an rpg. Second an mmo. Hardly see any “multiplaying” in a jumping puzzle.
As for rpg…yes i did had some stories that had jumping challanges, but that was not the main point of the game -_-

Whell…even if i exclude the most of the “personal story” part of the game, i still miss a LOT of detail abaut classes itself.
I mean…there is the trainer, that is good for giving you trait books……….feels sad thats all.

As for, more detail to personal story, i dont really mean a “bioware” like ting. (trough it would be amazing). But still….this is supposed to be an RPG, as the devs so hyped up the game. There are parts where i do feel like that….but mostly its undetailed.

For example : They sead, we can interact with the world a BIG TIME. Like taking up a rock and you can use it as a fiery builder with elementalist….that actually does exist…but clearly there is nothing more. (You cant blow up the fruitcart next to the centaur, so he gets blinded, or slips on the grease) You cant turn of the trap with a spell as elementalist, or disarm them as thief….if they promised rpg…they should have work a LOT more on it (if they had the time).
Classes really should impact the game itself a LOT more then they currently do. That is my opinionn.

The 80% of the reson they existed in the first place, was the lack of technology to create something more detailed or complicated. The rest was : Video games are games so they should be made for younger ppl.

We dont live in the Amiga age now….and the amiga age players play Mario if they want to play with nostalgic platform games….not Gw2 -_-

Having a few is not ap roblem…but this is supposed to be an RPG, not to mention a MULTIPLAYER rpg….not a single player platform game.
I dont have a problem dooing a few, but the new content keeps going that way…THAT is my problem !!!

I totally respect, and agree with your opinion.
I was looking forward to this game since i played Gw1 and realized, what the devs are capable.
It did sound like a revolution of mmorpg genre, and it is a half sucsess, but really, it is going a terrible way.
It like dooing, “non combat” stuff, like furnishing a personal house or guild hall, craft, even 1-2 times a jumping puzzle, but as more and more “patches” come out, the worse it gets. We keep getting “jumping puzzles” and non combat things, that are actually working the same way as combat?

This kind of makes me realize, the whole game is designed for non combat activity? It really should detail combat a lot more, i mean there are barely any options to do in combat….OH NO, DODGE OR NOT TO DODGE? Anet even taken away trinity, and instead of GIVING, they taken away ALL COMBAT ROLES. BAsically destroying the dimensions of combat, and no wonder some feel its extremely boring or even simple…

If you would take away traits, this game would be destroyed. (in my opinion). It would be like a stupid non combat mini game, simplified to extremes.

So i understand what the op is thinking and feeling…i feel the same…i might not be able to express, what i exacly want to say, sorry terrible english here….but anyway. +1

-I started playing this game, thinking its good as gw1…
-I hesitated to pick a class to paly for like 2 months, then leveled a thief to 80.
-Stop playing, realizing, this is not the game for me.
-coming back, after a half year….even more stupid
-Wasting 3 more weeks hesitating, what class to play….starting to realize…IT IS not a game for me propaby?

First of all, this is not a thread abaut, what i want, its more of a recollection, abaut the past, and how things are now.
(sorry for my bad english.)

So basically, if you browse the pictures under the thread, i am sure you by now realize, (if you think abaut a bit), that the artwork does not reflect the game truly.
I personally, joined the Gw2 fanclubb (5-6 years ago, fanatically i might add) because of those artworks. Ofc i played Gw1 and enjoyed it, and wanted to play, or atleast try the 2. (might also add, that even if i find the world of GW2 good, i find the gameplay, -exspecially the combat- lacking….compared to gw1, so it was a bit of dissapointment to me)

So basically, when i look at the pictures, i realize…they are the responsible for getting me dissapointed in the actuall game. I realized, they are a LOT more deep, and not to mention dark.
The theme of Gw2 is seriously not as “dark” as it feels from the pictures.
The abandoned desert ruins, the rotting cold stone forests….are nowhere….Orr might feel a bit like that….but thats only a small part of the game. and thats only 1 theme for the game. Its not even really detailed. I cant find the deep darkness….just a hard zone filled with undead themed mobs, and objects….
I personally cant find the massively monsterous theme, that is reflected on the artworks…
Also there are many things like, rapier or spear (its still in the game…some sylvari artwork on load screen) that are shown many times, even trough the current game, but are not actually in the game.
It feels like, the devs wanted a massive detailed world…but had no time to make it. Like, it was detailed. I clearly feel, that it was a complicated world, but to lack of time they rushed it, and cut of MANY things, to make it compact…giving the feeling “its the compelte game, its redy”, when in fact it was rushed like hell!!!
Same goes for the original Sylvari concept….i seriously think it was a LOT better. Darker, more serious…that lacks in the whole game….i dont like the goofy characters, and cutscenes, that are not “wall of text” but instead a “Wall of audio read up”…there is no action.

The maps and zomes do feel artistic as Daniel D says (atleast to some extent), but characters and exspecialyl skills dont.

So i think…there are many things missing from the game. Considering artwork, i assumed a LOT more. I hope that in the future expansion i can get this feeling and the content makes up for it…
Even Gw1 was only realyl good after FActions came out..

Basically this is not seriously a question for me only.
(sorry for my terrible english in advance)

Its more like an survey, to see, what would the most engineer “minded” players roll, if not engineer.

The whole thing came up basically, because i was wondering "hey what the hell, i know i will regret rolling it, but i will roll engineer anyway (going to be my second lv 80). I will have fun till i get to 80, till i gear it , and have some fun in pvp, then propably regret it because of lack of personal costumization and lack of weapon skins, since its using kits (wont see thme anyway) and there are barely any decent weapons for him.
BUT i am going to have fun for that 2-3 months, or maybe a bit more…or less, but dont care i will roll an alt after that….just dunno what…

I might as quote some posts from other engineer posts…but dont want to spam, why its senseless to make the “identifiable via backpack” an excuse.
I agree to some degree, but others have more resonable replies to this.

I already knew that I’d likely never be able to see the thing with the build I ran previously. I was a hardcore utility; I made everybody else’s lives easier, rather than just being a faceroll, “lolololol luk it died,” type of class.
Well.. since I actually wanted to get some use out of the rifle, or rather, have it be seen that I’m one of the few Engineers that actually has a Legendary (Yeah. There really aren’t any of them around, for all of the problems that have been mentioned by this thread) I decided to completely swap builds.
While my current build is great (Rifle on display constantly and FAR more DPS than any other class can manage to get their wildest dreams wrapped around; wooo!) it’s.. I’ve just lost the love I had for the class. Where before I would enjoy actually thinking about things and how to best serve my party, now I just run in, faceroll my rotation, and run out.
But I want to show that I’ve gone well and truly out of my way and dedicated myself to this class by showing off my Legendary. So that’s the way it is for now. At least, until I just can’t even begin to care, since I’ve never been a faceroller, and it’s really wearing down my patience with this game quite quickly.”

Its a bit off topic, since its not a discussion abaut micro transaction or “gem shop” and i mostly agree with you Fafnir, not sure you read what i sead abaut, “shop can and could be a realyl good thing” and what that is.
Currently i find the things in there (they are useless to begin with, whitch was stated at beginning anyway) that are actually compelling to most players needs. Sure sure character remake kits are good and a must have, so are some “beginner armor sets” but there is only 1 set right now….there are basicalyl no “combat” skins. And i am sure THAT is what would sell a LOT.
For example, take League of Legends, they buy the skins to show of in combat…mostly, but a LOT of players buy them because they want to have a better looking character while they play it. And “town clothes” are not that thing….You dont just o back to guild hall (that does not even exist yet) and show off your town clothes and costumes….you got dungeon instead and cant show of or look at the “cool” things you bought. Since there are basically none to buy. (i do hope some devs see this and ract soon)
Cool looking ice, fire, or any common themed item skins should be sold for gems. Exspecially since they can be bought with gold….this is the reson some would stay and play, or the reson some would spend money constantly for there “new theme” of character. I personally wanted to make Kirito from Sword art online…but there are actually no sword skins like that…nor armors like that. Same goes for Drizzt and a lot of things….since the “gem shop” and the game lacks costumizationability.
In my opinion ofc.

So yes game shop would be good….if it had a LOT more sales (like atleast 10 kind of sword skins for example). and not only non combat fluff, like holidays do…..I am not sure they realize, its abaut the combat….not abaut the non combat….i go play fantasy sisms if i want to live in a fantasy world and munch apples in a tavern in my pretty clothes, then go and bassh dragon pinatas…..
But this is a bit of off topic.

I dont think thats how it works….no actually, thats what makes the money sink. You pay the devs even if they sit iddle? Yes. So why not make them work?

As for Sorin, i perfectly agree. I also felt the same way abaut Gw1. I saw the game, and thout its great, but prophecies was a bit of dissapointing, excluding the “story telling” part and graphics. But after factions, the game became awesome. All that content : 2 class, a whole continent worth to explore. Not to mention Alliance Battles, that are still my best pvp experiances after l2 sieges.

So yes, i think so to. After the “next big content patch” or expansion the game might become a LOT better. And i might say, this is the “first content patch” and news that sound like, something is moving.
