Scepter attack animation

Its not a big deal, but it is to me.

To be blunt : Scepter attacks looks crappy and way to slow for me. The purple plasma ball projectile is way to slow and misses a lot to, besides looking kitten bad to me.

Not the color or the effect, but the animation itself.
Besides or actually more importantly the way Mesmers use the Scepter loosk bad to me.
Running araund, and swinging it. I cant grasp the concept of a Scepter, isnt it supposed to be a ceremonial show off item? And not a wand.

Which i cant understand furthermore, why does it look so “clumsy”? When the mesmer is the example of good looking skills. THe 90% of skills and effects look seriously good compared to something like Necro.

But anyway, if i could make a suggestion how to make the Scepter attacks look better would be :

1,Take away the projectile, make it “hit on cast” effect like the downed skill Mind Blast (1)
2, Give it a cool effect, something like Mind Blast has.
3, Remove the Swing animation, replace it with : THe Mesmer holds his hand toward the target and lets the Scepter go, it will float in front of his hand and with “attack” it spins araund, casting the effect. Or atleast something better looking.

At any rate, this is my feedback on the Scepter. I dislike the current projectile and swinging animation.
Its the whole reson i am taking a brake from the class. Hell might even reroll to Engineer, since it offers a lot more fun support from atop of houses, or roofs.
Trough lacks the good looking cloth armor, and weapons that can be reskinned, and trust me there are lots of awesome skinned weapons. Not sure.

I was roaming araund and started to realize even trough i have issues Enginer is the class for me.
I went to chill of pvp a bit and was dropping stuff into my PvP locked and realized i can prewiew stuff.

So i started browsing. And after i was done…BANG WHAT THE kitten slammed me.
Why? Ok first of all :

1, We can only use 3 weapon that can be changed and equipped as a real world item. And not as kit. The other classes have ALL those damnkittennig amazing looking items and weapons and not only for look but they use them and keep seeing it all the time they fight. Not just for show off.
2, Only the 60% of the medium armor looks really good and only like 4-5 amazing ( to me atleast i know its personal, some might like more some less)
3,The Heavy and Light armors look totally amazing atleast in 80-90%
4,Not only a lot less medium armor looks good, but ALMOST NONE FIT the to the class.
I sawe some really good looking ones yes, but they are totally designed for a ranger, or tipically thief or assasin. I was furious and ragequit the game asap.

After cooling down a bit i came here asap, and started writing this. But i have to admit, gameplay and style is ok to me. But i am seriously started to rethink what class to play, becouse others armors are a LOT more fitting and a LOT better looking.

I know this is all personal taste, but i do think a LOT of medium armor sets dont fit for Enginer.
Anyone feels alike? Or is it me? Should i just get on with it? I am not sure i can gulp this down.

Whell, i must admit its a strange topic, but its a part of forums, to provide supportive feedback. Even this helps the Devs and others to improve the game.

My list would be :

1,Hate shields
2,I miss a more ranged kit or rifle skillset ( keeping the old one to adding another somehow)
3,A lot of medium armors look way crappy or non fitting to Engineer. ( Heavy are totally mind blowing without expections)
4,Cant change the look of Kit’s weapons
5, Cant change the look of turrets ( adding another barrel to rifle turret would look like tarantula turret in Dawn of war)
6, No Golem or Mechanic companion summons.
7,To few weapons that can be equipped without kits. Looking at the list in pvp locker, there are SO many awesome looking weapons, and all the other classes can show of ( and use them most importantly) I seriously think if i reroll this will be the reson. I want awesome looking weapons to, not only 3.
8,Traits are a bit confusing, needs sorting, things that are undirect benefit.

Whell thats all for me for now. I dont think its a long list, but for me they are hardcore a problem. Still the class is fun, more so in pvp.

Erm i might say as well : Whats the point of playing a rifle class that cant specialize in long range use of it?

I dont and cant understand why some players cant undertand the concept or the word itself OPTION.
Its notl ike you are forced to use a kit, that wont unbalance the game or anything.

In my honest opinion, i rolled all the classes up to atleast 30-40 and pvp ed a LOT. And it wont really matter moch if you use a Granade kit or a rifle ot “nuke” the enemy. You will still nuke them, with or without conditions.
If up till now you did not realize, the game is more abaut, looking at the gameplay, then looknig at mechanic, and what you can do or not.

And if you cant costumize what you want to see your character does, then the point of the whole gGW combat system lost its own purpuse. In my opinion.

And besides, you say we are not Cold hearted hunter killers? DUDE! Its a weapon, a weapon wont describe a class that uses it. You should have realize by that now when you see any class or any skill they use with all the same weapons……….I dont say Enginer should be a pro core sniper assasin, i say i would like a more ranged setup for rifle on my enginer.

Totally agree, better solution then “sniper kit” .
I personally rerolled becouse i hate and cant understand the shotgun like concept of the rifle Enginers use.

And again, those with the : it wont fit, no way thats to advanced…
DUDES Death ray, and airship and trolls, and magic and elementals and floating cube shaped city’s are really realistic to right?????

They need to be flexible in Style and Theme, not in role they fill.
There are thousand themes for an offensive Guardian, not evne making 10000 classes would make up for all the themes the classes can provide.
Thats why they need to have differet stlyes of combat, or skills.

Thats what i am trying to say. In a part.
I think that anwser that.

The idea of beeing able to switch 1-5, is really hard, to manage, since replacing your skills end in not only a different theme,animation, and effect. But also a different balance to the class. And the fact, that there is no meaning to beeing able to use only certaint weapons.

Trough again, that points out the other fact that, why cant all classes be able to use all weapons? Elementalist not able to use 2h Hammer? Why? Its not dephending on “skill training” its dephending on person. He propably wont use it to combat the was a warrior does, but he can still channel skills fitting to his class trough it.

1, Not only A Guild Hall, and Npc that you can buy for it, but beeing able to costumize its forniture, and or Building, or the surrounding for GvG-
2, Personal And customizable house (oh wait that was not in gw1, but anyway)
3, BODY BLOCKING !!!! Atleast in some areas, where it cant be a problem. Or subareas (like near certaint npc’s)
4, Capes.
5, An npc,lover hanchmen, hero to follow me araund. Or atleast just to talk to me somethimes.
6, Not SKILL POINT BUT SKILL ITSELF be able to be obtained from a mob or area!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
7,Stronger Elite skills.
8, Totally agree with EnaiSiaion. I totalyl thout, wtf is this junk combat, its boring and mindless in the first week. I settled down a bit.

First of all i would like to point to Weapon to skill system. It is awesome, but it has its limits.
It is the way to the next generation and i would not want it any other way.

But lets see, Two class uses the same weapon different way, its allright, a Ranger uses a bow propably other way then a warrior, or a Mesmer would, but not sure it differs from a Thief. Besides. Shooting arrows cant be THAT different. And it is not.
And that is actually a problem. Even more so, since Playing a class mostly means you want to play a different style. And that FORCES the devs to develop more and more skills, just to make them differ.
Why do i have to be forced to use a cluster bomb, when i just want to shoot them in the neck, ( like reson would suggest anyway.)

The weapon to skills mechic does wall in the classes. But it is also a good way, to go since it can be SOLVED simply by adding more weapons.
The KEY to it is that the future weapons need be trougly researched, what aspects classes miss, and add those.
Example : Many Enginers like to use Rifle a more Ranged is setup. But it is like a shotgun right now. Solution, they get another rifle (same skins and effects) but Warrior like skill setup (with a taste of Enginer) on the weapons use.

Another point why the system can fix itself, becosue there are many weapons that are the same and just differ in slight details, but they are still noticable. This way classes can have many aspects, without dumping them with hundreds of weapons tipe.
Example : There are atleast 20 tipes of 1h Swords ( not to mention short and long) like : Scymithar, Gladius, Rapier ect…

Whell i do hope its understandable what i try to say, and ppl wont stop at “thief is ok as it is” becouse it was only an example.
And i really hope all realize, its not only me, dont start assuming. Classes lack the customization of play style or “theme” of certaint aspects, that lack from the game. And thats a fact.

And remember this is a constructive thread. It exists to send feedback and improve the game. So the devs can look into it and decide what way they should go or atleast just to take in consideration when designing, that this thout does exist in some players head.

I am awaiting feedback and thouts on this, but most of all someone that can describe this a bit shorter and more summarized.

Whell at first i am not even sure if the topic has the fitting name or not, but i try going at this big topic anyway.
Trough i am sure not all want to or can understand my bad english and this indepth look at Class system and Combat mechanic design thread. Its not an easy topic but i try to express myself as clear as i can.

Ok lets start with the main Thout process.
After beta, i was having issues picking a class and started to look into the system why is that? Why i dont like any class to 100%? I rolled all classes up to atleast 30-40 and pvp ed atleast 20 matches. PvP is mostly fun with any class, but picking for owerall game can be problematic.

So there are things i found that actually started to feel like they can be a big problem if they stay like that. (atleast for me they do feel like that way)

Better take an example what i mean when had problems with a class :
I started playing a thief becouse i like agile,acrobatic combat. At first i was bothered by not beeing able to use two 1h swords. After that i was getting irritated, by the way Thief use the bow. It was more of a gadged or a simple “they can use to”, not a real tool of outmost importance. (yes it is really good for aoe ing, but thats not the main and only aspect of a bow). My first thout was, they just added it later, it was not really planned out.
Later on i was irritated, by the lack of real support (or range support to be exact), like a ranger has. Or maybe is should say the way of the support, since they do have support like anyone else, just in a strange way.

Then i started to realize why i dont like thief. Becoue the class is walled in to a certaint play style. Trough utility does affect how you play it, and so do traits, but in the end, you stay the same aspect of the “thief class” .
What i mean by that? Hard to explain. If i say , Gw2 does not have an Assasin as class, and the Thief is filling up that role, but CANT fill it, becouse if you want to play Assasin Thief, you cant set up the class to match your imagined “side” of the class.

I mean what if i dont like the Bow skills. What if i imagine my hero as a sniper tipe of archer.

Asking to moch? Whell if you ask me i dont think so. The game (exspecially since Anet is so proud that they are REAL RPG) should be able to fill the most loved classes of a fantasy. Exspecially there own game Gw.
So i basically say either classes are way to walled in, and cant be costumized to “class aspects”. Or lets say fine tuned. Or there are way to few classes.

Then explain why are the most classes almsot mirrored when using not main weapons?
Thief bow,Warrior bow, ranger bow. THey are almost the same. Wont matter if they apply condition…in the end they do the same. No real mechanic behind them like Mesmers illusions….all you do is shoot.
I dont call it bad design, i call it : it needs no design, they are “just so they can use” but wont be anything special. A sniper rifle would be if wanted to be (in my design) Slow loading skills with high dmg on longer range. Besides…..did i specify the skills or how they work? No then dont ASSUME for kitten sake.

And again you assume the devs dont care and dont want to care, and only becosue YOU dont care noone does and i can go to hell….good stading to others. I am sorry but i refuse to write to you anymore. Pls look for other topic to troll on. No offense. I am asking.

Besides. And again. In my personal opinion the game where you can costumize your “hero” to the real deeps. And that means gameplay and style (but not mechanic thats the devs work) is the BEST RPG. And not the worst. Trough i am not really a big fan of Morrowinds or Skyrim…but have to say they did sucssed.

Anyhow Vulcano doeas have a point atleast. And a “sniper kit” is not an option i guess. But i would like you all to keep it in mind, what class would be the one that supposed to be a Long range rifle user? Propably not a warrior only. It fits Ranger at best…but they cant use them ( the whole reson i was dissapointed in this long before i started enginer at all) Thief? They cant even use them.

From what i see most classes use there weapons as “gadgets” . In my opinion if there is no assasin, then the thief lacks a lot of aspects of gameplay…or should i say. the game is missing a lot of aspects of rpg classes….that would be sad.
BUT i must admit. Anet did show is how totally awesome devs they have and i have faith in them, this is only an “main game” early stage problem.
Later on in expansion with more classes more skills and weapons. More chances of costumization we get the chances we want.

BUT FOR THAT, we have to send feedback like this NOW.

Sniper kit

So basically you ppl hate him, for wanting to have an option to play his class in a aspect he would love.
Without caring that it wont even really efect the game. Its more of a plus content. Or so to say an OPTION to the players that want to costumize there combat a bit.

And you would take the OPTION from him, only becosue you dont like it….thats EXAkittenhe reson mmos didnt evolve.

I perfectly understand what and why he wants it and i agree.

Wont fit? Yes so thats why there are sniper rifle skins. They even have scope. And death ray canons fit the game……Seriously. IN a game where you have a floating cube city, undead dragons and shape shifting norn, flamethrower and toxic granades a sniper rifle wont fit?

On the other hand, if not a sniper rifle kit, but a normal rifle kit would be totally needed. A lot of palyers dont like the shotgun like Rifle. And dont have an option to use it “normally”. Its mostly the reson i rerolled from this awesome class.

I was just roaming araund with engineer, beeing unable to pick a class, and started to have a feeling.

Eye patch, a rifle in my hand, dropping out a rifle turret ( Tarantula turret) Laying some mines, getting my granades redy, and then the Afficted started to swarm on me. I fought for my life. Then a Warrior jumps in with a Hammer and Rifle, and i realize….Am i in Warhammer?
The joy and awesome feeling rushed trough me. Only warhammer can offer souch amazing epic fights and feeling like this game.

Really anyone got the feeling how awesome this game engine and game system would make an totally fitting Warhammer 40k game?

Anyhow, i was wondering and realized i dont like Engineers rifle skills (its more of a shotgun) And rolling a Warrior now. For pure Rifle and Hammer feeling of Space marines
The only thing i miss are 1h guns and sword in ofhand. And a decent repeating gun skin for my Rifle ! PLEASE I BEG YOU A NET !

The way you talk abaut devs and the game. And the way the game works, i dont think the devs would aproove. Gw is a tipically not that tipe of weapon.

The things you say just make me NOT to play the game or class. I dont think thats the way to go. Besides the fact i dont find all your points valid, but lets not troll eachother.

I still find a Plus 1 kit would not destroy the game.
Anyhow i am am reroling to war….Which is sad, maybe THERE IS a reson why most players play warrior, and why its an awesome class. Its not bordered by a play style and his weapons skills are well thout trough.

Besides , you dont have to be a tank to be “specified” . If you cant se why i say that you really dont have a knack for game development, or indepth “behind the scenes” sight. No offense. Thats my opinion.

Hmm thank you for the constructive responses. I try my best to only add to the class, and not to take away, for the exacly same reson : Some might like what you dont.

I understand a lot of you think i hate granades or want them changed, thats not the fact, i know they are good, i just dont liek to be forced to use them if i want to go long range “aspect”.
And more importantly noone questions there “powerfullness”.

Further , i understand they designed the Enginer itself to have shotgun like skills, but wont change the fact there are only ONE tipe of Rifles in game, and yet classes use them totally different. Thats the exact reson i was wondering and was a bit angry that there is no chance to use rifles as other classes do.
And exacly as Sabbatius sead there are some rifles that even have scopes.

I dont want to take anything from Enginer. In fact i want to add a Stance or Kit, or anything that can change the skills on Rifles, so we can use them in both aspect, that exists in the game. I dont think i ask to moch, its alredy in the game and design afterall.

Gw2 to Warhammer 40k.

I was a big fan of Gw1 before i even know what Warhammer was.
Now i must add i am a big fan of Warhammer universe, not only becosue its extremely detailed, but becouse a LOT of games movies books took many things from the universe.
(Even Blizzard’s Sc is some sort of ripp of. They sead it themself they ware inspired by it.)

But thats not the point i am here for. I was more and more realizing, that the game called Warhammer Dark Millenium Online was deleted, and i fear there wont be a quality MMO or even RPG out of this fantastic universe in this era atleast.

I was wondering why they deleted the game, and started to realize, even as they sead it will be a next gen mmo it was not. It was starting to look like SWtOR or even worse. They didnt dare to implement or research new game style. Even trough thats all the game needs, since the lore and characters and classes mostly exist.
Then i started to realize, how TOTALLY fitting GW2 engine and game system and mechanic would fit a Warhammer 40k mmo.

All the Dinamic events, the awesome combat of classes to every detail (like hammer attacks, or thief’s acrobatic moves) the extreme details in map design and PvP or WvWvW all fit PERFECTLY to a game like that.

I am not sure how to put it, or what are the chances are that any Company actually realizes this, but if anyone does get the chance to send a word. Do so. I know its a small step, but the more and more this word spread the more chances we ge to get an amazing game, all thx to Gw2 ’s awesome design.

I want a long range weapon like rifle. A kit would do the trick, and the fans of shotgun could keep there weapon to. And we also would be happy.

Sigh, i hate to log in for some simple comment that supposed to be basic.

VakarisJ you say Granades fill long range. Yes the y DO, what we want is not some unbalance in skills, instead a way to COSTUMIZE aur gamplay. Or combat, or class or character. If you know what i mean.

A LOT of players get discuraged to play any classes right now, becosue they lack the chance to play them as they wish to. Classes are way to overspecified. This only leads to : I cant pick a class, or i can but i am not 100% satisfied, and that CAN destroy someone game.

And again as reading further your comments i realize you really dont get the concept of the post at all. We dont want to replace granades or even question there “power”. We only wish to add another concept to the alredy awesome class, so a bigger percent of the Enginer ( or might even make players roll 1) gets fully satisfied.

And again, lt me not repeat myself 100 times, I understand a LOT of palyers like the shotgun tipe of concept of the gun on enginer, i dont want to drop it, but i want a chance to play it long range to. Like Warriors do.

And dont say things ( as last resort) like : Then roll a warrior. We play enginer becosue we like it for the same concept, we want them to have an option to have long range rifle skills.

The rest of the class is totally cool. Trough yes i admit this part is where i would prefer warrior, if it was not so boring in all other ways. And not the 80% of the servers would play them.

Weapons That ANET Should Consider

I personally want a : Short Sword

Kama or Kukri

Rapier

A more Elegant 2h Sword,
for classes that use them to get a more Acrobatic or agile skillsetup

A kris knife would fit Casters a lot more (since its a caster item) unlike dagger.
And would give dagger to them as half combat weapon.

A sniper rifle, that is not like the current, but more ranged. ( hate the way Enginers are forced to use there main range weapon as a shotgun its TERRIBLE) Or give them a kit to get a sniper skill setup.

Rest are totally agreed.
Trough i must admit i imagined Crossbow as a repeating crossbow, since its quite a slow weapon if you ask me.
-And if it IS reapeating, it should have a Ammo magazine effect. That gives you like : 15 ammo and each skill you use consumes some ammount of that like : Dual shot fires up 2 arrow that cripples the enemy (consumes 2).
-After the ammo wanishes you have to reload for 1-2 sec before oyu can shoot again.

But i totally agree with the idea itself ,since Crossbow is the MOST SIMPLE weapon to use. Any commoner or guard can use it.

Another thing. Weapon ideas are good, but let Anet handle the detials.

Ok lets clear this. We doo have a lot of Ranged skills, but i hate to be FORCED to use Granades when they are supposed to be mid range (like in life) and Rifle is supposed to be Long range.

Yes we do have mortals, but you cant carry it and shoot with it.
I would love a concept like Rangers have with long bow, just with guns. I seriously think thats should be like that. Or atleast we should have an option to use them that way with a kit or anything. (since many players like the gun as it is i dont want to take it from them, instead add more.)

I must say, i hated Enginer at first, but now i love it, BUT

I am not pleased with Rifles. Or i should say i find the current setup totally fine, for a shotgun, but when i rolled the class i wished for a REAL ranged skillsetup when using Rifles.
I think thats what they are ment for. (warrior has them mostly)
And its not the first post that complains.

Dont take me wrong i dont want Anet to change anything abaut them. I just want an option to get a decent skill setup for them, like a : Sniper kit , that you can attach to the gun and get a full set of 5 skills for real ranged dmg. (like a ranged does it with longbow)

We do have range “nukes” don take me wrong, but i kind of hate the concept of beeing FORCED to use granade (kit) if i want to go REAL range.

Thats all i want, a chance to paly Enginer as i want to, without making a big deal of remake or unbalance the class.
And before commenting things like : I love enginer you suck, its good as it is….read the post. I dont want anyone to take, just to add.

Rifles: A Love Story

I can see what you are trying to say and i have to agree.

I personally also loved rifles, and wanted to use them, but hey have the concept of a stupid shotgun,(that i hate). And there is no option to turn them into sniper like weapons, or atleast skirmishing weapons. (like warriors use guns)

They are supposed to be the Number ONE ranged weapon for long range, expsecially for engineer, but i am forced to use kits and granades (that i would love if i had the OPTION to use them and was not FORCED to use them)

And i have to agree no turrets to. They are an awesome idea, but are seriously bad implemented. They die almost always instantly, or if not they barely do any dmg. Noone will bother them since they are no threath.
Why would i waste up a slot on some 1% of my dmg skill when there are only 4 slots.
Besides the insane cooldown on placing them, the only way they are usefull when you pop the turret skills cooldown (automatic mode ect…)

I didnt wanted to meantion how terrible rifle turret looks. And that you cant even change the look of them (when in fact they are also just items, exspecially since YOU make them, why cant you costumize them?)

I dont know if i should make a post liek this…i alredy did, with a bit different approach.
I mention a kit that can turn your gun into sniper gun, and changes your skillset to a more ranged skillsetup.
But ppl just hate me for not liking all the small details on the class. And say i should force myself to granades and how they rock.

To be blunt i personally started to love Enginer (i kind of hated it early) , but i still miss the most base aspect of the class i was hoping to get from it.

What aspects i miss? Whell

First of all the “Sniping” part.
I know sounds dull, but hear me out.

First thin i realized this at ranger, he has a “long” bow but has no real ,slow but powerfull shot (aka snipe) When whe whole weapons should be based on it. Exspecially in a hands of a ranger.
Then i was looking at the Thief. Realized it is more of an Assasin (since there is none anyway), but still cant use bow as assasin weapon.(No snipe) Trough in the most of time in fantasy and history Assasin prefered bows to take out targets, instead of melee. (Example Thief episodes, Morrowind’s)

Then i was wondering and started playing Enginer, and started to realize my character kind of looks like Cyrus from Dawn of War, and how the game style perfectly fits him even, excluding the sniping part, then i realized, Engider DOES MISS this aspect.

I mean : Enginers use pistol and Guns as base. Trough we have kit’s they are more of a option to switch aspects, but evne still they are mostly the same in theme. Aoe in mid or close range. But there are no real Long range nukes.

Looking at the base Gun skills, i started to get dissapointed. It is used more then a shotgun then a normal musket. The game does not make a difference in musket or blunderbuss, trough there are a LOT. So i presumed they made the gun more like a blunderbluss and it is fine. I would not take it away.
Instead i would give : Sniper kit, that the Enginer can attach to the gun and get a new set of skills for the gun.

I really like all the kits but i really would love to give a decent dmg support from house rooftops and hills in pvp with gun (witch is mostly the only real range weapon besides pistol), but it lacks the real dmg, and a lot of skills are made for close range.
I am starting to feel that trough enginer is supposed to be a Range weapon user, it lacks the range skills i would roll the class for.
If i want to shoot stuff i wont use a granade for sure. If you know what i mean.

Second, i personally love the turrets, but they could use some loving in the part of : Skins. I would love to see more turret skins be unlockable or buyable from karma,tokens or anything. Or even buyed from gems
Same for Kit’s weapons.

Third. I Am not a big fan of guns and stuff in Fantasy games, but since they are in, i would guess i miss a bit of chaingun concept. THe turret can go repeater mode, there are quite advanced techs in the world (exspecially looknig at asure). And lets not forget the magic. I dont think there is anything that could or should hinder this skill or weapon.
I could seriously imagine a chaingun kit. With a big backpack of ammo and some visor….would look cool.

Whel thats all i thout up in a haste. Dont take me wrong i still like playing Enginer a lot, but these aspects would totally made me play Enginer for sure.
I am a fan of Warhammer, but i dont want these changes to make the game like it. These changes would fit the Gw2 world TOTALLY. And actually some parts even should. (in my opinion)

I personally have to admit after a couple of weeks and betas, i realized i find most classes lacking of 1 extremely important thing :

A chance to costumize your gameplay or combat.

BUT i also realized thats the whole reson i liked Guardian. (sadly a LOT of players started to play them and i dont like popular classes) And started to ponder why is that, and what can be done to improve other classes in same way.

Pros on Guardian : Can be support,caster support, melee dd, melee tank(like).
Cons: Lacks range, (nukes exspecially) , The most of 2h Sword (and hammer) skills are just rip of from other classes 2h weapon skills. (mostly)

I understand Range and Nukes stand faar from the concept of the guardian, but still.
They have the concept of a Melee, but can be caster class. Why cant they pick to be ranged to?
Or why isnt there a class that can be? I mean Warrior can be melee or use bow, but thats not the same…those are not spells. Btw i must also add : A lot of classes that can use ranged weapons (only so they have that to) just have a copy paste formula skillset for “non main” weapons like thief bow or warrior or ranger with 2h sword…

I say it out laud wont keep it in me : Eather i want A guardian like class : Melee, but can be range support. Or Melee and can be Ranged nuker. with spells!

I wont be picky to say a swift warrior like class that can flight spells araund. Or a character tipically Anime style : A swift warrior that is acrobatic (even with 2h swords)

I would even agree on a Chance to get a ranged caster build for Guardians to.
I kind of found Scepter 1 and a bit ….lame. The 2 and 3 are not only good ideas and helpfull, but also have a good design graphically and are well animated. But there are no really good ofhand items to back them up for a nuker setup. mos ofhand items offer support skills and at best medium range.

I am not qq ing or anything. And sorry for my bad misspellings, but i really had to let this out of my mind. Anyone opinions?
Or will more weapons solve the problem here to later on? Like at other classes?

Trough i must admit i made some more research on the topic and i found out some points that cant be fixed even with more weapons.

I read up all the class descriptions on Gw2..com and realized, we missing a Melee class that can be a LONG range caster or support.

Swift or slow moving wont matter, the point is LONG range.
Since guardian can, support and IS a caster if needed to be…to tell you the truth one of the best. For the sole reson : they effect the game play mechanic, not just deal dmg or apply condition or boons.
But he is mostly close range caster and support. Exspecially not a nuker ( in my opinion)

And thats exacly what we need. A melee that can support or nuke Long range.
I am sure devs can come up with lot of decent ideas, i wont bother anyone with listing classes i would think of.

I agree with that, unless they continue to implement skills with the same : They look slightly different, but do the same in the end (even for different classes)

There are way to many skills that simply Deal dmg, or Apply condition or boons. And no real skills that effect the game play mechanic (like mesmers illusions, or rangers traps, or Guardians shields)

Totally support this. I just thout abaut the same idea some days ago.

Classes could have different dodge animations. Like Thief has.

Trough i admit some classes do look coll with normal dodge. So i guess make an option in options to be able us to use the original one.

(i kind of find dodge quite cool, last day i pvp ed some and was crippled culd barely move and i had to finish of some downed guy, it flashed my mind and dodges there and finished him, if felt awesome. Mobility sure does boost your game experiance a LOT…I would prefer a lot of skills remade slightly for more mobility)

As my personal opinion, i started as hating the class taking up the slot from another cool class, but still got to the point of rolling 1 somehow. But got bored with it. Now i find the class interesting and give it another shot.

But, araund 40 i started to get irritited by something that looks like a small thing but its actually a BIG part of the game.

Any class can change his weapon (or more likely the look of it) by simple equipping another, or transmute it to another skin. (lets not even talk abaut how many other weapons choices others have)
Exspecially since stats wont really matter endgame, but the cool skins you can obtain for your weapons. Like destroyer weapons and seraph and so on ect…

BUT enginers only have pistols and rifles as weapons (lets not count shields i totally hate em find it stupid, but thats my opinion) The 70% of there weapons (and skills) come from Kit’s they use to switch weapons, and you cant change the weapons skins you get from kits.

I think this is a BIG down side of playing Enginer. Or so to say : Enginers are at a disatventage to other classes. It does affect the fun factor by a lot. (for a lot of players i am sure of it)
Why would the devs implement something (and even build market on it) that does not apply to your class fully.

I say make option to let us buy or unlock alternate Kit’ weapon skins. Or skins to Turrets and backpack.

Offhand weapons

I personally was irritated by the way most characters look using 2 weapons.

By that i mostly mean Warriors Dw ing Swords or Axes. Or Rangers. And not Elementalist with scepter and focus.

Swords look just simply stupid when sheated. One of them should be sheated (or have the option, in options) on the back. Or we shouldh ave option where to sheate weapons.
Might even give items that are “sheats” . Like Claymores use on the back.

Might also add that a lot of Sword attacks look irritating somehow. They are like if they are way to long. Feels like characters reach out way to much to swing swords.
This comes out exspecially at certaint skills like : Flurry (warrior) Blurred Frenzy (mesmer)

Putting that aside back to main topic :
Dual wielding the same tipe of weapons should replace the Main skill 1 .
-Why dont characters use the offhand weapons to attack? Only becosue skill 1 is in the “place of main hand weapon?”
Thats realyl stupid. Whats the use of a offhand weapon of you just hold it when fighting? It gives skills? Or things you can do with it somethimes?
In a battle anyone would use 2 weapons at the same time or, with slight delays, but not wait untill he finishes his “main” dooings.

There are skills that do use both weapons, and those are actually the best looking.

Actually i was more irritated by the way characters hold 2h swords. Looks totally stupid, not to say its totally unpractical. In life you would get exausted in 10 seconds.

Or the way dual swords or swords at all look sheated.
They are way to loong, they would get in the way, and look stupid hanging from your side all the way to the ground.
Why cant they put 1 of them on there back? Also more practical and effective. Also looks totally cool.

Not to mention swords also look stupid when using them. They are way to long, and they look just wrong when used. (might be the effect of the model, or the animation of swings or all togather not sure).
This comes out exspecially with Flurry (warrior) and Blurred Frenzy

I also suggest that if oyu Dual Wield swords or the same weapon, not only give 2 more skills, butchange skill 1 to ( auto attack) so characters use them both. Not just hold the weapons in ofhand……waste of point heaving them…..

I have to admit you made a good point, but that actually saddens me a lot more.

Why?

Only proves that classes are not only alike, but almost exakittenhe same.

I also have to agree with the fact, Playing Enginer needs a LOT of practice, becouse skills cant be seen trough in 1 shot. It only makes the class unnededly complicated. (when its not)
But i have to add, i personally found the class a bit boring ( dont take me wrong, ranger even more) becouse all i did (no matter what kits or weapons i used) kite araund and nuke. Its fine in Pve, but i had to do the same in PvP to. That what dissapointed me in the most.

I totally agree with the rest and its is a decent class if you put it that way, but the problem of Kits weapons cant be reskinned. I presume a LOT of players that get bored with the class are partly irritated by the fact they cant switch the look of there weapons ( kits)
You cant basically change the look of the weapons you use in 70% of the game (later on , as you play more this % gets a LOT more). Not by equipping a new one, or obtaining a cool one.

To be blunt i personally miss a lot of aspects of some classes.

There might be 8 classes, and they ARE different, but, they still dont cover the most exciting (or basic to me) parts of fantasy class aspects.

Lets take example so all understand :

There is a Warrior that can dual wield and use 2h heavy weapons, wears heavy armor, but cant seriously become acrobatic or mobile like a Thief (in this game).
There is also a Thief that can use short and light weapons,wears medium armor and can be mobile, but cant use heavy weapons.

What if my play style is a bit between? I prefer a mobile acrobatic, light looking, but heavy armor( something like scale or chain) and heavy weapons.

I understand that the game has set up classes and stuff alredy, and there wont be a change, but i have serious issues picking a class becosue the lack of play styles i can “make” out of classes.

*I also think that most of these issues can be solved, adding more weapons, that dont totally differ, but still change the skil animations.

Example: I use Claymore instead of 2H sword ( they are basically same with slight difference) and most of my skills are the same :
-GsSwing stays,
-Hundred Blades only attacks 3 times, but you move araund the enemy meantime ( like Rangers Serpents strike or Flanking Strike)
-Whirwind Attack basically stays the same but animations changes to something like Rush. You run trough enemies and cut them meantime, more like Samirai do in Iaido
-Blade trail changes to a skill that Throws the sword, but not sideways, instead with its pointy end, so it “imaples” the enemy, then you have the option to press the button again, and the character Jumps to enemy and takes it out crippling the enemy. (basically the same with a different animation, and a slithly more fun aspect)
-Rush can stay, but needs a slight improve on animation.*

From the Example i guess you all know what am talking abaut now. This is the only way i can think of solving the problem for players tha want a bit more character play style costumization

And it sadly applies to the most classes. The 95% of the classes skills are ok to me, but what if the rest 5% is destroying my concept of my Hero, and that kills my fun.
There are slight things like : Thief cant use 2 sword….Give it 2 short sword then instead of normal 1 h sword.

Whell i alredy sead to moch on a single topic. So here is my question : What are your opinions on this? How would you help this?

A crippled class. Why?

In my honest opinion Enginer class is crippled.

To say out blunt. But to go in detail lets see why i say that :

1, Enginer only has 2 main weapons basically ( shield can not be counted to it its not a weapon its more of utility).

2, To make up for that, you have to use Kit’s. That take up your Utility slots, that are suposed to be made for utility and to make up for the lack of weapons you can use.
-To be blunt : You chop of your left arm to use it as a left?

3, Besides using kits waste up your potential utility, the most of the Enginer skills are the same (not excluding kits or alternative weapons)
-They are all : Throw and aoe (with a side condition or boon). Shoot to Cone AOE. Or simply shoot.
-Utility has no real utility, they mostly give boons or knock back, or make the tipical rocket jump. The only signitficantly interesting and special skills are the Turret skills.

I think thats the case why most players get bored with the class asap. Or araund lv 40-50 ish.
Or the reson why so few play it at all.

This is not really an issue only a personal idea, but i think : Giving options to reskin ( or options to unlock them) weapons used when using a kit should be given.
-Devs remember, Enginers use kit weapons mostly, unlike the most classes, and they cant pick a new look for those weapons by simply equipping or reskinning them, like in most cases. And thats another reson the class is in a bit disadventage
-Personally i would also make a lot more skins for Turrets to.

So not sure who thinks what of all these, bit this is what i can make out of this whole class, anytime i think abaut it.

I was pondering a lot abaut what lass to play, and i still cant seriously decinde, and started to realize, its becosue none of them perfectly gits me like a glove.

Necromancer was my most favorite class in any rpg or fantasy setup film or video game, but i was sadly dissapointed in it. I was hoping for a more classical portrey.

Elementalist was my second pick but that did not work out eather. I wished for a more “tipical” wizard or mage but even trough the awesome design of the class and mechanic i didnt find it fun. Its propably not for my taste.

So i was wondering what will come in future expansions. Maybe a class that will make me play crazy, becouse it fits me and its well designed also? I do hope so. Becouse even if the game by itself is totally amazing and provides anything it promises, i dont find it fully fun for these resons.

So here are some of my suggestions on future might be classes :
(i wont detail them right now, i just want to prove base ideas for anyone who feels detailing the ideas, or classes. Or give a headstart what aur taste in fantasy classes right now for devs.)

Cultist,Priest,Devotee :

Anyway you name it its still the same in the end. A class that is bound to a god(s) and invokes there power. Or summons fort its own inner power from faith.
-I understand the concept of having no healer, and many players say : priest? its stupid there are no healers. BUT thats exakittenhe reson a priest like class could make a superb addition to the game. Finally IT WOULD NOT BE FORCED to the concept of HEALER.
I see a lot of potential in it.

I could mostly see this in a theme of Elonian style with (Egyiptian like clothingand theme owerall) and decoration. But there are so many ways it can develop. Like summoning snakes, stunning foes with its sight, summoning the power of the sun to burn, or frosty mist that would slow down enemyes.

Psyonist, Mentalist, ArcaneEye(or evil eye)

A class that manipulates objects and others araund him. Can float things,throw them araund. Turn enemyes against eachother. Can bend the will of others. I tipical class i was missing a lot.
Trough i understand a LOT of players think : eyy its the same as mesmer.
But thats not true. Mesmers work with illusions, and thats another table. Having 6 swords float araund me cutting stuff down. Or pulling someone to myself and stabbing him. Or pushing aways someone with a psyonic blast. Or simply lifting them up in air to make them useless.

Wizard,LoreMaster,Hermit

A class that is totally devoted to the classical style of fantasy wizard. Not specialized in any school of magic, its owerall skills are pure and potent. It not only fits the lore (priory) but also the bacground of the game. The base mage that improves in Elementalist or Nekromancer way, was lacking all this time. Trough lets not make the mistake of taking them less then any other class. They are not “simply” mages or wizards. They taken there art to extremes, and able to cast the tipically fun spells that make you pick them in any rpg.
-I could imagine them using dual scepter. Or even guns or a whole new set of items like enginer can : Scrolls, artifacts…

Animator, Conjurer,Transmuter

In short cut, the class that can manipulate materials or make them alive. A class that had a main pet(s) that provide him skills. Or a class that can actually alter the zone araund him. (for short time) Can summon a big bag of weapons or items that are usefull. (like torches or javelins to throw) Can turn terrain to mud, or oil that can burn.

Whell so faar thats all i could came up with. I will detail thme later on if anyone is interested in my whole ideas.

“Lifesteal is a staple of necromancy.
There’s supposed to be multiple types of necromancers, atleast with this Necro.
There’s your plague/curse Necro.
Your Blood (vamp/healing) Necro.
Your Corporeal (physical dead minions, corpse/bone stuff) Necro
Your Ethereal (spectre/ghost/spirit) Necro
And finally there’s the Shadowy type necro (Death Shroud) though this could fit with

Yes for most of the skills like dagger and the half forum agrees in instant. Staff skills? Whell there can be a BIG diversity on that, but mostly also agree they dont fit any of those. THey are Mines no matter in what form you put them. And its just say to se a whole weapon set consumed by 4 tipes of mines…..for a class that has 100000000 tipes of awesome changes of spells……

But as you say it the class does have the theme of the skills it is supposed to be based on. But in here they are just there. And are not the main features of the class.
And also wont synergize with traits and the class by itself. And give the feeling more and more they just dumped in “nekromancer type of skills” .
Besides the fact my problem is not the skills itself, but the way they serve them.

But i alredy sead this….dunno why oyu making me explain this again.
I am sure who agrees with me mostly understands what i try to say on first time, with my seriously bad english.

1, Then why do we only have like 4-5 pets at max, that die seriously hardcore fast. They are portreyed expendable, but they are also hard to obtain becouse of long cooldown and summon time.
So the main feature of the class is destroyed. ( and surely wont owerwhelm anyone like it supposed to be…like in Gw1)
2,Rather brute force…..yeah thats the reson we have Axe and Dagger? And we go and stab ppl with it? Or in fact have barely any normal nukes?

Dont mean to offend you ( and i cant also argue with what you say becouse its true) , but if you say : Each game defines its classes by its own lore, and Guild Wars “wizard/mage” is other then the classical one…ok…..but then why was the Nekromancer a LOT better in GW1? Not only the portrey but the skills and the feeling it was a tipical wizard before it.

LastDay we are not talking abaut how to definde Nekromancer, but mor likely abaut, how it should be implemented. And that goes for all. I dont want to talk abaut, what means to be nekromancer, since the class is LIKE a nekromancer, but it still lacks stuff that makes the class a REAL Nekromancer and not LIKE 1.

Staff Necrotic Grasp

One of the main resons i got dissapointed in Nekro so moch.

1,Using staff supposed to mean you switch to “caster” mode. But you still lack any kind of tipical “nuke” a mage or wizard would have.
(yes i know Nekro is a specialized class of a wizard, but ele still does have decent nukes and he is a specialized class of wizard to….. so no exuse)

2,The skill 1 (the auto attack) the necrotic grasp hits multiple foes, and that would be cool, but i mostly end up pulling half map all the time. And cant even switch to staff becouse of it.

3, Necrotic Grasp also looks crappy to me. Spamming floating black hands seriously looks bad. Eather the hand needs a decent redesign or a full remake to some sort of scythe balde or dark thing that cuts trough enemyes (if you want to keep the goes trough all enemyes)

4, Besides the skill 1. All the other skills are the same for staff. They surely do different tipe of conditions, but in the end you have 4 of the same skill instead of a wariety of skills.
I felt more like some kitten RunePriest from warhammer planting mines instead of a nekromancer (exspecially when staff supposed to be a weapon for classical caster setup)

Jagged Horrors, Why do they exist again?

I could not agree more.

Minions are supposed to be the main differeance that draws the line between a normal mage/wizard and a nekromancer.
Nekromancy is a subtipe of a magic school that focuses on undead minions. And thats exakittenhe point where Necroancer is mostly useless.

Not only the “main” minions doe fast and have low dmg, and look crappy, but there is only 3-4 at best usually out.
They seem “expendable” but in fact they are so hard to obtain (from cooldowns and slow summon skills, or the number you summon out of them) they are totally not.

And Jagged horror? They are a joke. Who on earth would summon skeleton rabbits, that get 1 hitted? Or die even before they can move from the spot. They look totally idiotic, and are totally useless.
I dont see the point they exist, besides death nova.

dehyphenated you say its “swinging, smacksmacksmack” thats exacly what it is not supposed to be. Scepter is a ceremonial, more like an icon you only wield for show off. Totally not for using it. Exspecially not like a wand. A scepter cant do a thing. It does not shoot things. You (at best) focus spells trough it.

forice. Are “summons” not spells? There is no “summon supernatural ability” its a tipe of magic. And Necromancy is a subtipe of that.
BUT i actually agree, Necromancer is a Summoner “subtipe” of caster and it should be themed mainly araund undead reanimation ( as you sead ), ( and not summoning). At best recall spirits from the underworld ( if its a big part of the game anyway why is it not realted to the class anyway? ? ? )

Dear Hatecoin : “I see a NECROMANCER as a summoner not a caster.” If you think summoning is not magic, then you should stop getting glued to rulebooks and think a little. Or try reliting to real world. I read like 180 books on forklore and mythology and origin of magic and theology…..and Nekromancers ARE CASTERS. THey use magic to summon -_- how abaut that? Try less googling and more thinking or did i say that?

cerulean moth I doo understand what you say, and agree with you fully if oyu like the current portrey of the Nekromancer, i dont want to take the option aways from players like you, that like the class as it is, but i also must say i think the whole thing could be solved with giving more weapons to Nekromancer with the theme of a more Classical Nekromancy, so we also have the option to play it that way. So all players can be happy with the class.
The “theme” is right as you say, i have problems with there form personally. Maybe animations or the way they are shown.

Delryn Also hits the spot with a lot of things. I was also mostly upset with the “utility” skills.
THe minions in Gw1 ware awesome even if they ware not Classical zombies or skeletons.
But here they are a bit irritating.
Not only small but give the feeling : there is only 3-4 and they are supposed to be expendable?
If they are supposed to be expendable, or meat for the grinder…there needs to be a lot and we are supposed to summon a lot.
I also dont like the Shadow Fiend. It wont fit the class. If they want a “ghost” like pet they should add some Wraith like thing.
And i am also dissapointed in Deths shroud. Even if it is usefull on some way, i dont like it. Even if i would like it, it looks crappy to my taste.

I dont mean to offend anyone, or atleast to qq, but i seriously cant hold my opinion back on Nekromancer.

First of all, i am the tipical player that loves Nekromancer classes in any RPG or Video game. I also played Gw1 and the concept was quite decent.

But in Gw2 : Nekromancer feels more like a Third rate Cultist from Diablo.
Going in and stabbing ppl with daggers, summoning zombie,gremlin,rabbits. Planting “rune mines”.

I am seriously dissapointed in the whole concept.
Dont take me wrong i like the class, but dont name it Nekromancer then.
Nekromancer is a CASTER! foremost.
read wiki : Nekromancy : The term may sometimes be used in a more general sense to refer to black magic or witchcraft.

We do have caster ish weapons, but they lack of design. When i use scepter i feel like swinging a wand istead of casting spells trough it, like mesmers do.

In my opinion the class can stay as it is, but we need new weapons asap. So Nekromancer can use “nukes” to. As a Caster class should.

Keep in mind, Nekromancer was a Wizard or Mage before it became specialized in Nekromancy.
Ad thats EXACLY what players picking Nekromancer want o see. A Wizard (or mage) that is specialid in Nekromancy
I dont understand, why would that be a problem. Ele is sooo moch not a simple wizard or mage. (but atleast it sows he was 1) They would not even be closely be the same.

I totally agree with leman…spoke my mind.

And i also understand why Dorn says this, but “controlling” is not always happening, when a warr jumps on you and get 2-3 hitted by hundred blades spam.

And lets leave pvp, i am more like talking abaut pve, or general gameplay. I dont mind having melee skills, it adds a bit realism to the game. Since Any mage or wizard can fight, but the lach of proper “caster” nukes i feel Nekro totaly not Nekro.

Its good to see that some agree with me. And not only jump on me for my opinion on the class.

I doo hope we atleast get a flash of info to get aur hopes high and give us strenght to continue playing the class.
