I wont become an 3d artist because that does not exist. There are 3d modellers, and texturest at best…i know becaouse i work as an artwork designer -_- yes my english sux..so what? I use german and hungarian and japanise….

Any any case….i am not sure what you think, but detailing every single detail? You even realize how it works? Besides, you seen gw1? You could use like any kind of weapon on any class… You realize there is ONLY 1 way to shoot a gun? At best 3. From hip or from shoulder, at best you can count sideways shooting or some tricky thing like 1 handed combat shotgun shooting? What idiot would make another animation for another modell, that is basically differing in like 1-2 hardpoints at best?

And dont even try to convince me that making an : ON-OFF button in options for a modell ON-OFF toggle is so extremely big work…(hobo sack)

“detailed to every single player” You kidding me? Adding dual sword to ranger is not some “personal request” i think every proper fantasy game should have them(o should have an option for the most comming kitten) -_- I might be old fashioned.

I dont want to sound offensive, or flame, dont take me wrong…but i think you are picturing things into what i sead.

Hmm sounds good. Though i dont think i can deal with the staff “auto attack” ….still not i mean. But the buff on Necro does sounds good.
I did like playing Guardian, and it did have Heavy armor, that does seem to be the best looking armor tipe in the game.(same for weapons, it has a big selection) but to many player seems to be palying it.
Mesmer does seem to be a good pick to, since its looks and feels a lot more like a real caster, but the illusions and phantoms mechanic is really not my style.
So i am stuck still, but thank you for the help anyway.

Ps : i guess i cant disagree with you on the 5 year wait time thing Homo, but must also admit, after 1 year of release i still felt like, i am waiting for the game, or content in it. (like guild halls) So what ever, it still sounds resonable.

Guy 2 (not even considered troll for this) : No, i like them. So you dont need them.

So devs should not make more hair styles, so that others “can” pick them if they want to….not even forcing anyone to anything, its just an OPTION. Because you are hapy with it. And the other 330 000 0000 players should rot in hell, because its propably only your problem.
THAT is the TIPICAL awnser for almost anything i get suggesting ANYTHING. Or in fact the most suggestions or “pleas and preyers” get the same awnsers.

Good way to go cumminty….
Know what? I also want more hair styles. I was extremely unhappy with all of them. And Norn have like 3 times more?

Basically i am a returning player, but also could say, i am still deciding if i should play the game at all.
After waiting 5 years for the game, it felt dissapointing. In many points, but even still i would play the game, if i could select a class i like. But the problem is classes can not be costumized. Not even slightly.

By that i mean is :
A big part of the game is “the looks” . Yes costumes, weapon and armor skins.
But the game restricts you in that part a LOT.
Why cant i make an egnineer with a heacy looking plate armor, and a sniper rifle? Why does it shoot from the hip at any cost? What if i want to play smt that is more like an assasin? Why am i forced to play a thief to be atleast “like” it? Not even thief has a sniper rifle style of play. Its actually a warrior that has it….so i am forced to play a plate wearing class only to be able to use a rifle and fight like that?
Isnt that TOTALLY CORNERED?

Why am i also forced to play warrior if i want to play a dual sword character? I mean rangers are the class that defined dual wielding in the 90% of fantasy games, movies, books. Really a stupid example but i am sure atleast the most ppl know Drizzt Do’Urden?
Why cant i play a real tipical “caster” Necromancer? Why am i forced to play melee, and moderate range with it? Why does the terrible look (personal taste, but since it cant be changed its also forced) of Stakitten “auto attack” force me to play a different class?
Why does the “cant disable to show hobosack” on engineer force me to stop playing it?

Thse are so minor details, and still destroy my game. THe curent classes are so WALLED IN, that if i pick 1…ill be sure to run into stuff that i dont like. And that stuff is like the 20% of that class, so i cant even avoid it.

I am sure this is only my opinion, but still, who says its only my? Does it have to be degraded “who cares, then leave”.
With this attitude sooner or later there wont be any players left.
Dont even bother to say “its a free game noone gives a crap you leaving”. I bought 4 copy of the game, spent like 1000 euro on gems (triyng to improvem y gameplay, without sucsess)
I still stay here and try to believe in the game, wishing it to sucseed. Still the devs dont even bother to atleast look into stuff, even minor things that are popping up every week atleast once. Not even bother to say : we dont bother, we dont care, we dont want. Or simply : NO

So in short : I cant even pick a class to play for like 10000 resons. How am i supposed to play the game, i really want to.
(yes i do have lv 80 characters. Yes i did try all of them for like 30 match of pvp)

1 player leaves ,that actually bought 4 copy of the game and like 5000euro worth gems…yes that wont matter….really, if that is what Anet thinks, that they are doomed to be forgotten in the mists.
Not to mention the opinion players will have abatu things like this…they are basically making players leave in mass like this.
So i perfectly agree with Assassin.

I would say the same, but i actually started to question the whole game after like 2 months, after beta ended. And not only the endgame part. I defended it, i think i still pray for a sucsess in some way, but i am extremely dissapointed, how this starts to turn out.
Topics like this keep and keep popping up, there are more and more unhappy players, that leave for extremely small resons that kill there game, because devs dont care or priorize things that are actually worthless. (i personally made like 10 topic like this abaut all kind of stuff, even general combat and trinity and things that are a compromiss, and not an enforcement, but the community does not care yet…till they simply quit for resons they dont even realize)

I also agree on your class conclusion…classes would be good! IF the game had a more complex combat system. It is complex , but does feel extremely boring if you actually look what you are dooing. and that is because, there are no “combat roles” that is because of no trinity…that does sound good at first, but instead of : giving all classes all kind of roles, you TAKING ALL the roles away. All you do basically is kite mobs araund and deal damage (dd or dps)…if you fail….instagib, ppl rez you if you lucky. Hard fight = more rez -_-
Yes sadly i totally agree…as long as threads like this are ignored…and Anet keeps making useless holidays instead of actuall content a LOT of players and fans will not only leave but totally distrust Anet..that is going to cost them a LOT of future money…

Greetings all.
(Exuse my terrible english.)

So after like a half year, or more, i am considering coming back to play. I checked patch notes and stuff, and the game seems to have some minor contant worth to check atleast, so i log in and get stuck …for like 30 min at character screen, and finally just log of….

Why? Because necromancer was the class i wanted to play for like 5 years (till i waited the game to come out), and it was quite dissapointing in gameplay, compared to Gw1 version. I learned to deal with it after some struggle and a few months of pause, but could still not take ,the terrible look of death grasp and other skills. Or the half melee hybridness. To me a Necromancer is a “real caster”. Not some cultist runing araund stabbing ppl.
So i am still stuck at character screen, and the Necro keeps pulling my sight, but so does the Enginer (that i considered the most unwanted class and stlye -to me atleast), but that one looks ugly and it destroys my illusion of fantasy game.
Then comes the Ranger, who is utterly boring, and so on…cant find a class to play…since i simply cant force Necromancer on myself….
Any advice? Or the usually awnser : This game is not for you then…-_-

Perfectly agree….ppl say, things liek this are on the last of the list for Anet….then i ask : what is on top priority then?
Since i didnt even felt a single change or fix, after like a half year login? (maybe even more) Fix on events…? eventas that wont matter since ppl dont really populate 20-70lv maps at all. And other “fun” like that?

Sorry for terrible english, but anyway.

I personally would point out the cutscenes.
I was terrified, when i realized, the “story telling” is all abaut : 2 ppl talking….
Why the HELL you need a cutscene for that?
I mean there is no “wall of text quest” isntead there is a “wall of audio conversation”.
I mean, look at the Gw1 cutscenes. Your character is there, interacting, getting owned, running away, leading the charge. It is a PART OF THE STORY. Not just a “run araund dude” : yeey you saved xy town, now go there and save xy to. I seriously felt, that MY character is part of the story and interacts with other characters.

I must also agree on the part of “not serious”. But not just the characters, but the game overall. I mean, look at Wow. Feels childish? Look at Stracraft 2 heart of the swarm intro…does that feel the same? I am sure , when you face the swarm of the dragons undead invasion you should feel the same….
i felt safe the whole game. Not even a slight fear, or thrill in the whole game. I dont say it should be brutal (like a dragon ripping you in 2), but the atmosphere, mobs and characters do need a dark side.
I just realized, yes. There are no real " bad guy" characters or mobs or classes.
Most mobs attack for reson, Or are mindless, not because they are evil. Necromancer might sound evil, exspecially life drain, though its hard to say that, when you see it going on actually (ooooo red balls coming out of you and then you collapse….scaaaaaryyyyy) -_- So evil really.
In gw1 it did feel right.

So i dont think its abaut “comedy” Danikat….its abaut the atmosphere…or might as well say, the lack of a certaint atmosphere.
I dont say it must be fully like that, but it lacks that totally..

I am sure there are like 10000 threads like this, still…

I am amazed how Anet cant even make an option for engineers backpack, for almost like a year now. Players keep crying and keep making posts, and it seems like they ignore all those like 1000000 posts like that since beta, that actually destroy the game for some. (yes you know am talknig abaut hobosack)
Why? Because the game is all abaut looking. Combat, skins, models, animations, maps…and most of it looks good. And there is a lot abaut, getting better looking stuff, but there are many things that actually negate this important part of the game. There are even some players, that actually start find the game unfun for Petty resons like this.

Ofc they do have time to make holliday events, that totally uninterest me. And ofc it totally takes the time from making content and adding simple options like : turn on the bag or turn off.

So what ever my idea is to : give us more turret,kit and backpack skins for engineer.
Make them buyable from gemshop, make them unlockable by skillpoint, or obtainable by story, or dungeon i dont care…make them obtainable.

Sory thats my opinion….there are threads like this since like beta, and they simply dont give a kitten to do smt abaut problems that DESTROY the game for some players.

Destroy? YES they do, the game is abaut cosmetics, as the op well says. And its a BIG part of the game. It actually forced me to reroll 3 times, and i finally decided to stop the game, the only reson i am here is because i wanted to check on the game, but still cant decide what class to stick with…

So yes, thats my opinion. There are millions of threads with issues like this, and they cant even put a simple toggle option in like a year ago….ofc there is TIME TO MAKE kittenTY HOLIDAYS, but not to implement something like content.

I do agree on a lot of terms with you Vayne. You do have a point and its totalyl resonable conclusion, but i must also say that :
If they do want to stick with the “close to the ideals as possible” , then that is not a problem, they should just compromise, and listen to the community a little bit more.
Not base the game on that, just listen to it.
You see, my problem is, that, even if you explain what you (this part of the community) dont like in the game, they keep pushing the same “crap” at you. Instead of trying to make compromisses.
Sadly this will cost them the whole “this side” of community, as you describe it.
I understand, what you try to say is : remaking the game based on part of the cummunity will destroy it for the other half. Yes i agree. But lets face it
The “ideals they stick so close with” are actually not what they actually gave out in the game. I basically came to like the devs and the game in the “5year” development time exacly because of those ideals.
And to tell you the truth, a LOT of new games and the whole new genre of mmo-s is getting based on those principles, but they do have flaws and they only lead the whole genre away from the path they dreamed up. Because they could not implement it the way it sounds to be.

Off topic : Could you all stop with the fanboy kitten discussion? noone cares. Its totally off topic, not to mention the thread will be closed.

Also, please take into consideration, this might be my opinion, but it wont mean there are no players, that cant have the same. Degrading my opinion only bacause its my opinion “only”, is not quite nice.
Putting that aside, i mentioned these things, because i still care abut the game, and wish sucsess for it. And i think those are the flaws that made my gameplay “unfun” or did not make my gameplay fun enough.

I must also agree with Danikat in some way, games are decided to be fail or sucsess, but thats all decided by : “Have fun or not.
If i dont have fun, ill first look into it : what are the things that could make it fun.”
Will they be put in, can they be achived? If yes, do i want to wait? Does it worth effort (to level,to farm gear ect..) if not then, is there a better option?

I think making an thread and expressing your opinion is still worth a lot more then simply “stop playing because you dont find it fun” and dont even look back.

The problem is : there are always players that force an overly positive and happy face on themself, and say : xy is good, dunno what your problem is. And are satisfied with everything. That is the reson there are always a lot of unhappy players, and players that can keep up the happy face, no matter how " kitten" a game becomes. (the reson wow became like this). And the “happy” players wont let the game progress.

As Nick sead it well “Everything’s perfectly fine with the game, you’re wrong, quit, go back to X MMO.
Or.
Improvements should be made to make the game more enjoyable.”
Unless players make devs see that there are problems, and they should work a “bit more” on content, there wont be any changes. Only “events” to keep the crowd happy with “looks like content” (fireworks)
Or dont care abaut anything, and let players, that woul actually play leave and not return.

Some good points though :
I found the graphical engine still good.
After playing crysis 3, Tera, and a lot other new games, i still found Gw2 really good looking. And not only textures or effects, but the general artistic way of the game. Map design is still ubetable. Its a living world, not some flat textured kitten to walk on.

Same goes for Animations. Tera might have good looking ones, but clearly even new games like Elders Scrolls have TERRIBLE animations. Its realyl wicked to see them lack so extremely.

Another thing i fould Gw2 to be unbetable is : PVP. Though pve combat is a fail to me. Pvp did happen to be fun, like in gw1 (though i find the number of “viable” or normal builds lacking). The map designs are good, the action is fun and constant.

Also found the events on maps still refreshing.

As mentioned above, contant events make the world feel alive.
The moderate balance of classes .
The fast travel, and other things that help you get into action instantly, and not make you waste time on boring crap, like travel.
The good music (needs more combat music).

The indepth bacground of Races. Makes them feel distinct, not only makes the character look distinct.

Grettings to all!

After like, i dont even surely remember..like more then a half year by now, i returned to the game. (araund dec)
Or more like, plan to atleast look araund,and decide, if the game changed to the direction i was looking forward to.

I log in and all, (still dunno what class to play, still feels, like it wont actually matter what class you are) run araund…realize, there is still nothing to du, but do story, run araund and level aimlessly, run dungeons for loot, that has basically no worth.

The game still felt empty. There is no real need for players to party up. And i relized, the concept of “not forcing, players into party” is not the way to go. I really thout that the system (like wows lfg and isntance), where the game forces palyers togather wont work. Its half true. But the best system is still the Lineage 2 system, where it wont force them togather, but you cant do a thing without it. So you force yourself.
In Gw2, you dont even have to team up, since there is no real reward anyway, to gain, so you dont bother to force yourself to get something, that is not even really a must have.

Combat : Still feels reaaaaaaaallllyyyyyyyyy boring! I contantly feel that i could even mash buttons and still win. Later : Wont matter what on earth or heaven you do, you still get instantly killed from a “howl attack” when you are not even near, or you are behind-side or the monster-boss. Traps instagib you, harder monsters instagib you. You dont have constant megabuffs on instagibs you. Taking out the downed system would destroy this game, since ppl would die like every 5 sec all ower the places. I cant believe why cant they realize this. (beeing noob or not its still true).
The trinity taken away, still feels like : they have taken something away, and not given something. (when it should feel like “anyone can be anything” that is clearly how it was planned, and announced). And this destroys the dimensions how you can play the game. Since there are no combat roles….you kite, and dmg….thats all. Most bosses felt like : contant dmg spam-or wait for rezzers.

Events : When i logged in, i realized the game is contantly in event time. The good thing is : the World IS alive. There are things truly happenning. Thats is really amazing.
The bad thing is : Devs wont have time to actually add REAL content to the game. Not all care for “kittenty holiday” presents, and backpacks, or fireworks. There is always smt like Easter or Winter Weil, pls less work on that, more work on actuall game.
There are still no Guild Halls, No Guild VS Guild. And a lot of things, that ware good in gw1, and still didnt get implemented.
Cinematics are still boring “talk-talk-talk” …Point of making a cutscene from that? I could like even read it? Its like “no wall of text to read…its a wall of text to listen to”. The Gw1 cuscenes contained YOU, and it made YOU feel that YOU are there and part of the story.

As for now… i am unsure if after THIS moch time, the game is still like this (feels like half complate compared to the thing it was promised), that this is my game…after waiting 5 years…i still waited another (after lounch). How long i actually should wait? Till an expansion? I am not sure i trust the devs that moch anymore.

Jay i see you have many chars. I also wondered abaut Engineer, trough the lack of “real” weapon feels bad, how is that?
Or I might as well ask, what class would you suggest? I also thout of Warr, but it feels, like it has no support. Besides every second player plays it. Or Gurdian,that has nice support, but the range feels lacking, which is quite handy somethimes, een in untraited for it.
Or i should stay with thief? (that will propably nerfed to hell soon)

Yes whell. I do agree. Everything is viable for anything. But not as moch as some are -_-

Basically i asked in this way because there is a big Difference between a Run and a normal dungeon.
You see a normal dungeon team is happy if it can bring down an instance without any real difficulty, or more ten 3-4 full wipes.
A run is not only supposed to has less then 1-2 wipes, but is also fast. Might as well call them speedruns.

And those teams are not kind if you have a class or build that is unviable for it.
I do agree, almost all classes have builds that are good for speedruns, but some are still even better.
Though i am not so familiar with all this. Thats the reson i am asking. I dont want some underdog class to play again.

Hi!

I been wondering what to roll for some time now, and after discarding Ranger, Engineer mostly for all that bad i keep hearing abaut them. and because ranger feels so boring. Engineer is simply missing the weapon selection of normal weapons, that can obtain skins to, and are not kits.

I was thinking or going back to my Mesmer. Though i still didnt fully accepted the theme of the character, with all that sparkle, and fluff, instead of the indepth dark feeling, like it had in Gw1, i could get over it. If it is worth it.

Atleast the class seems a bit underplayed, compared to Ranger and Warrior. And does have a synergy with its own skills and traits and builds, unlike Necro.
Though i kind of miss some sort of bow or a rifle, instead of pistol,, and unsure how to put out some direct damage, but i dont really even care for that right now.

What i want to know is : Is Mesmer viable in Fractals? Or for Runs?
I keep hearing, that runs are quite different from normal dungeon pugging.

I heard many opinions, but nothing basically asknig this directly.

Hi!

Engineer did seem a good idea, but i keep hearing its terribly underpower. Besides, i hate the thout of only having 3 weapon and the rest are kits, that cant change skins.

So i thout of Ranger. Though i keep hearing they are really boring, and considerably simple to play (that does bother me a bit), but i dont care.
I also see, there are so many out there, but i learned not to care for it (though that also bothers me a bit still).

The only thing that bothers me really is its viability. I dont know, what to say. I hear its a bit all araund, good for anything, but not specially good in anything.
Can it support like Thief or Ele can? Atleast to some viable level? Or its simple DD class, unlike the most classes in Gw2..-_-

Even if it is…is ranger viable for Fractals?
Or more so, i keep hearing, there is a grand differeance between normal instances and Runs. Where ppl priorize Guardians and Warrior, Eles and Mesmers…is that true? Are Rangers viable for runs?

Anyone can tell me abaut current status of this?

Currently Rangers feel like a superboring : Send pet, shoot shoot shoot. -_-

Dont even try to bother me with Micro pet management. Pets really dont mean moch. I could not be happyer if i could dismiss it till i do fractals.

Exacly my thouts of today. I was wondring what i should play, and keep pushing myself : I should play Mesmer. Its a really good class. But this “fluffy” and glittering style is sooooo not me.

It does need a lot darker side, with lot more evil themed effects.
all the skills and mechanic can stay the same, just give an option to make it look more evil.

Engineer Staff, how to? Drones!

Hi all!

I been struggling since beta, what class to pick, and the only thing that prevents me to play Engineers is the lack of weapon selection. ( besides the extreme negative feedback on the class )
I know there are kits, but i mostly hate them. They cant change skins, like other classes can change there weapon skins constantly. They have a tonn of really cool looking items. And “we” also only have 3 choices for Legendary.

So i was wondering what weapon would be still considerably fitting. And i found it was actually staff.
Yes trough the Staff represents magic, and Engineers dont….Wait thats not even true! Asura do use magic to create golems, gizmos and all sort of things. Basically Engineering is partly magic.
Still i think i found a way to fuse it togather in some way, keeping the current picture most ppl have of the class.

Summoning and controlling drones.

Only by imputing minor magic, or channeling some gadget power trough the staff Engineer can control and add effects to drones he alredy prepared.

They could be utility slot skills, like Necros pets. So you can still use staff, without them.
It had mostly support skills, but most of them considerably close or mid range, so engineer can keep its skirmisher role.
But the Trait and skills would synergize with those skills, so those staff skills enhance the drones, and would be advised to use them also.

I thout of 2 drone tipes:

1, Floating stationary or floating above the shoulder of Engineer. Using range attack, or mid range attacks. They all had low hp pool and low armor. But decent damage.
Like : Sniper drone, shocker (mid range) acid spewer (poisons-).

All these drones could have a charge on them, before they use up ammo and after that, they need to recharge ammo to fire, or could suecide on nearest target for an extra effect. (the acid spewer destroying armor-vulnerability, sniper exploding-knock down plus dmg)

2, Walkers. These had a lot more hp and armor, and could withstand some hits. but they had less damage, and more then 1 skill. Also had no ammo. But no suecide skills. (unless traited to deal damage on death or something.)
Like : Blade bot (fast, can even dodge some attacks, melee dd bot, with a bit less hp) Wolfling ( tougher armor, but a bit slow, with a mace like hand, can apply weakness)

And i also think there could be 2 elites based on this.
A seeker killer drone, with missiles, and lazer guided rail guns.
And a Mecnanominator that had sharp fangs, and chainswords and a shoulder mounted gun.

Those 2 could switch stances and assume roles based on that. There look would also change, they would transform a bit. Or switch weapons based on that.
Like : Buzzer -> disabler mode – with immobilize on mecanominator, and netgun on seeker.

As for staff skills i would add the base skill as 1200 range, and the rest for moderate range.
Something like :
Discharge – THe staff shoots a bolt of electricity at target, and apply weakness at third shot. (Bots are drawn to targets with weakness?)

Electric current- The engineer channels a constant aura of electrons, that empower allyes and drones. All who touch the aura gain regeneration, and x stacks of might. (this is an one time activate skill that lasts for x time…liek 10 sec?)

Magnetic resonance – The Engineer pulses a cone in front of him, that will push (or draw in foes). Drones hit by this become immobile, but gain x time protection and aegis. Allyes also gain the buff, but wont be immobilized.

Something like this. Combined with traits, these all could be quite fun.

Mesmer above 3 k direct damage? With? -_- WOW and i thout i wont be able to destroy any burrow or any stuff without direct damage on my mesmer.

Not thats pretty moch abaut it at some mobs or bosses.
Unless you see some fast attack speed lad in pvp its pretty moch feels useless.

I been thinking playing Necro again, and was started to wonder…if i ever get there..which Legendary would i pick at all?

I mostly use staff, even if i hate those idiotic rune mines. It offers the best support with the constant regen. And i do want to play support.
But The Bifrost barely resambles some Necromancer weapon. That look is not for me for sure.

Then i was wonderign abaut dagger, but the same goes for the dagger. Its ok for a Thief or more likely an Ele…but not for a Nekro.

Focus? hmm now thats not bad, trough again not really a Necro ish look, but the main problem is : I dont really use focus.

Frostfang now is something i could imagine for a Necro, trough i hate axes, and i seriously dont use them on my Necro if possible. I dont find the skillist or the weapon fitting for a Necro at all-_-

Scepter is something i usually use, but Meteorlogicus is also not really a Necro ish weapon. Its again more likely for an Ele, or even Mesmer. Maybe even fiting for a Ga, but not for a Necro for sure.

So after thinking things over…i am not even sure i should come back to my Necro. It feels like : devs didnt bother so moch, there isnt even really a decent legendary for it.

Any opinions or thouts on this?

If so its even more boring then anyone would guess, you can sit back and auto attack stuff and kill it. Since the game kills stuff for you.
By the way, when i say they are weak, i ment they have stupid ai, and are extremely situational.
Btw who even sead pets are weak? I dont recall a single post complaining abaut pets beeing weak…So i somewheat agree. Pets are not weak…they have other flaws.

I fully agree, i cant understand heals myself ether. Ga has instant full heal, and there are like 1-2 heals that are good to, but the rest is wtf good for? Why would i want 50 heal per sec for 10 sec instead of a decent burst or constant high dmg pressure?

Thats a good point. Many wont realize it seems why the game feels so lonely. Even when i was playing togather with friends, i felt like : Its only faster, but not really more fun. We dont complement eacher. There is barely any synergy. There are surely combos, but mostly they are unnesecary.
In the 70% of the time a heal would have been most usfull instead of stupid blind, ,spreading burning, confusion, cripple or freeze….they all ware useless, since we simply downed mobs with raw direct damage from auto attack or dmg skills.

Seriously you need to take that atittitude back fast.
The first thing i sead was, its not a whine topic. If you cant realize its a buildfull feedback for discussion, then its YOU who has no palce here. You are not trying to improve the game at all, so all can enjoy it.

Besides, there is a BIG differeance between : be able to sidestep or roll back (not with dodge) like a thief, and using blink or portal entry. And sword skill cant even be compared to a thief dodge -_-

Second of all, ppl here complain : you have no clue and you didnt get xy to xy…How you know?
I have an lv 80 mesmer in full cof gear. And i did use almost all his builds, and pvp ed to rank 45 as thief. Please try not to tell me what and who i am?
I do know builds, actually even more thne most somethimes. Maybe thats exacly why i find them, as i described. Not exacly boring, but more like plain, and unchangable. Non flexible.

Yes, you can variate “how you play the game” but its minimal, and TOTALLY wont reflect in actually comb that moch.
As Calae perfectly describes : the game will feel extremely boring, when you just play it….and thats exacly how you should play it….by playing it…General gameplay is gameplay. And if its extremely boring, having a decent variety in pve dungeons or hardcore content, wont help it a lot. -_-
Exspecially since most players will see general content in the 90% of there game time. and will quit before even get to variety.

But how moch more time I alredy feel wasted like time sicne beta. I dont think the game is for me, if i still could not pick a class i really want to play. It keeps feeling, like : i must force the game on myself.
Trough i do agree, the game is going to, not only a good, but perfect direction…but it still as a long way to go.

Warrior arre maybe the best class ingame, and the gaming community does feel it to. No wonder the 70% of servers are warrior. No way i play another, and feel like a clone. No thy.
Besides, the gamplay with them (even if you are full support or “tank”) feels like, all you do is spam dmg skills. Quite boring to. Unless you hammer ppl in pvp.

I might say Mesmer is a decent class to, but basically it so mixed, noone really cares to play it. It is melee, but also light armor. It is also caster, but lacks most of the direct damage on long range. Clones are op but meantime useless, when try to run araund cliffs and try to climb them to explode on the alredy dead mobs or players. The class feels indepth because almost everything synergizes with everything, but also lacks the depth of bacground. In gw1 it was so artistic and elegant…here its so …meh.

Engineer. The only class i had mixed feelings for. It was a decent idea, but i mostly imagined it with a lot high tech stuff. Like the pictures from cronomancer. Controlling sniper drones. Or turrents like tarantula turrets. Not some gizmo like whirling horns breathing fire. Not to mention the only 3 weapons???? Ok kits and what? Kits cant be obtained, no new skins, no stats? No fun to earn them from instances or pvp….totally pointless to have a weapon that is s a skill…unless yo uareldy have plenty of weapons to pick from. Basically other classes can earn like 4-5 awesome looking weapons skins for 5-6 weapons…and engineer can only get a 3. And will propably not use even 1.
Not to mention, the 50% of the cummunity hates the way rifles act as a shotgun. (propably) And that a supposed to be long range class is mid close range.

And so on. I dont want to drag this to long, so in summary.
I think classes are way to walled in. They feel like set-in, instead of aur own character.
They can barely be modified to aur taste or combat style. There are no real roles, i would call stand alone roles. (You might be a support, but you still will be a simple dps er, like anyone else is). If you dont like a skills you cant change it for weapons.
If you want to be a silent arrow in the neck assasin, you cant be, because thief is a thief. And has the skills we gave them.
If you want to be a minion master you cant be, because we designed the game so….

In the end. The game ends before i even start it. At character select. Because i realize…i dont want any of this..i want my own…And so i am on the endge of stop playing.
No offense, i know noone cares. Trough i bought 2 additional copyes for my friends to play with….they alredy quit. I bought gems like 3 times wort the game…
It wont matter, if its free. If ppl wont be motivated to return….I eagerly wait the jan -feb patches….its the fence. Brake or Make -_- well sead.

Greetings to all!

I hope it does not sound that negative, because i dont plan to make a post of concetrated hate and moaning.
I just personally wanted to point out my personal opinion abaut current classes and there combat system.
Whitch is getting stronger and stronger each passign day.

My problem is? Lets agree its not only my. But it is :
The game ends for me at character select alredy.

I been waiting 5 years for this game, i loved gw1 totally. I waited for the day, i can destroy my foes in GvG representing my guild as a Necromancer. And when the day came to play, i had mixed feelings.
-The combat system was a fun thing. It has awesome animations. And it is good to see the devs try to reach towards reality with the Weapon->skill system.
-Trough it limited the personal costumization of combat, and combat roles.
-All classes felt : auto attack win. Or fancy it with stuff, but still win. Ends the same way. Even in combat where you have to dodge, heal, switch weapons, combo teamwork, the game still feels like : all i do is spamm dmg skills at the enemy and auto attack when i have skill cooldowns.
-There are rare cases where you actually have to watch what you are dooing, but still most of the combats are standing from : trying to survive and deal dmg meantime.
-And exacly because of those resons, characters can not take up any role in combat, they feel 1 dimensional. Even as support or cc er you are dooing the same actually.
The game system wont let characters fill roles, because it was designed for dps only. When the devs wanted to do exacly the opposite. That all can fill all roles…and not none. Even if you go support. Thats the reson many feel suport underpowerred currently (the only viable is guardian, and a few builds)

And all that in the first week of gameplay.

But enough of that. After 80 i still felt :
My second problem was, i could not pick a class. None of them felt fitting to me. I loved Necromancer class since i was 10 like 16 years ago. In every Rpg, mmo i played Necromancer if i could. (it was quite rare)
But after like lv 20 i realized, this is terrible. Its not even a necromancer. What are those undead bunny like things and that skeletal cocroach? I dont plan on planting rune mines! I am not a kitten Rune priest from Warhammer! I am not some freeking cultits to stab ppl with a knife. And for Grents name why is a pure caster redesigned to a mid-close ranged skirmisher? And still has light armor-_- ?
I was so terrified i rerolled instantly.

And since then i keep rerolling. Every class i play has so many “parts” i dont like. And cant be fixed by anything. Most of the game would need a full redesign to have classes i would like to play.

Ranger is ultimately boring. It basically can do anything, but nothing good. Pets are fun to tame, but are half useless.
I would love to use a rifle ranger, and feel like some Eldar Pathfinder. But they cant use it. They cant even dual sword, like the most fameous ranger Drizzt can. Quite disspaointing.

Thief is decent. Curently i play it, but it can becaome ultimately boring to. It lacks support besides aoe stealth that gives minor regen. Or blind..if anyone decent rpg player would call that support -_-
Its weapon selection is fitting, trough i still find long range direct damage lacking. Like a longbow for single target, or a rifle.
But i must also make a note : the most of the Thief gameplay is auto attack.
So owerall decent, but if you want to teamplay, it will lack a lot! (i didnt roll a class to only blast finisher with shortbow in dungeons)

Hi!

I been struggling to pick a decent class i am willing to play till the end as Main character and i finally found it since beta.

In any case, i dont want to bother why, i just started to like it a lot. Maybe i understand it a lot more then before.

I been trying to check out all builds, but takes time and a lot of money -_-
So i dont really know what weapons would be a good choice to invest as legendary?

I kind of like the look of bolt. Trough not sure if it is fitting (isnt it to robus and big for a skinny human mesmer girl?)
Maybe even Dual Bolt? Is dual Sword viable in any way?

Or i should stick to decent builds and get an Leg. for those builds? Like a Staff, or a Gs?
I dont really like the look of the Bifrost actually, but i mostly use staffs…
The second thing i mostly use is Gs, and i do like the look of Twilight and Sunrise, but not sure if it is worth it?

The third think i prefer to use are scepters, and i like the look of Meteorlogicus, but it lacks spell effects and walk effects -_-
Besides it would also need an offhand and not sure what would look decent besides it…Propably not bolt or Minstrel.

I also thout of playing with Bolt, but to tell you the truth, i didnt really practice with swords on mesmer. THey look cool, but attack animations are just funny. Trough its the number one direct damage source of mesmer i guess…killing burrows and things is good.
And i am not even sure if there are decent and viable builds for it?
A dual bolt might look good. If i dare to invest so moch time into it.

I propably would not get minster, focus is an item i would barely use, trough i play mostly suspport or dd.
So would Rodgor, i dont like torches, unless i seriously need invis in pvp.
Or quip. It not only looks terrible to my taste, but i wont use pistols till it can be dual wielded.

So as you see, i am still not sure what would be worth to invest in. Any ideas?

I know, that many dont want the Mesmer to be a Bard, but those comments only show you didnt fully read my post. Because i dont want that eather.

I was just poiting out, that many players were actually unhappy, that we didnt get bard, but a Mesmer.
Whitch is the most unplayed class, still.
I could say a lot of resons for that, like the learning curve, or difficulty, but i dont care if ppl stone me i say it out laud : I think it is because the theme is not so good. A character like this should be a lot more indepth.
Yes i know most of the classes are shallow actually, not only Mesmer, but it shows on Mesmer a lot more.
Not sure if its is the “early” state of the game, or design flaw? Or they thout its enought?

  • Prsonally would like to play a Bard, but NOT instead of the Mesmer. I am not a Jerk like so many here, who would take away a class others like, only to play sometging they want -_-*

Hmm. I might have been wrong abaut the no support. You are right, the mantra build offers good healing,.
I dont fully agree on the projectile reflection though. Mirrored feedback though lasts for 8 sec (that is long) but still could, not benefit my team really when it came to defend them from range. (It is still to short in pve atleast.)

But thats not the topic, i agree. Mesmer does have support. I should have say : It lacks the ways a bard could/should support.
Something like : Passive song aura, giving periodic random buff on nearby allyes.
Or a Harp phantasm confusing foes, or buffing allyes.
Stm like that.

Might as well say, the Mesmer lacks the original artistic concept of the class.

Hi all!

I am scondisering to roll an alt after my Thief. But unsure what i should, no thats wrong, i do know what i want, but not sure if it will be worth later on.

I like Ranger because it is considerably simple, trough exacly because of that its is also boring. Pew pew kite, Pew pew kite, with some pet tanking. Like any uninnovative mmo’s ranger or hunter.
But they have a big selection of weapons, All the legendary’s look amazing, and even the normal weapon skins are considerably good. Though i miss rifle a LOT.
I also like pet hunting.
But i hear they are a bit underdog class, and perform not so well in Pve or dungeons.
Lets not even mention they are decent in all, but not excellent in anything.
Not evne sure it can become a decent support, or bunker-tank at all. Its like a boring dps only class, whitch sounds terrible in Gw2 -_-
Or lets not mention, that every third or 4 th player rolls a Ranger (trough not that many play them now).

Considering Mesmer, that also can look decent with a good armor, and fitting dual sword, but most of the legendary weapons are just moderate, besides Gs. (to my taste)
I hear it has a really big potencial endgame, and a good burst (though i fell the opposite under lv 50). Maybe only after a build up time?
A lot of usefull support, whitch i also thout, at first sight. Like projectile reflections, and teleports or invisibility, but in the end they felt useless.
Boonsteal and spread was extremely usefull, but only for like 2% of the whole dungeon runs.
But i didnt like the owerall illusion and phantasm combat. The whole class felt to circumstancial. Its not really a caster. Nor is it melee, or hybrid. Its to mixed for me, as gameplay. Though the challange was fun to master a class, but not the theme. I think i miss the musical or astistic tune i wanted.
(I do hope they add it later.)
Besides, all that i also felt Mesmer can mostly only dps to. Like ranger. And can not become a real support, or tank, like Eles, Guardians, Engineers Warriors or Thieves can….And that feels dissapointing.

So not sure what is worth to roll without a regret?
Should i go with the slightly better feeling Ranger, but regret it later because it will be boring? Or go with the circumsstancial Mesmer, and hope it can faceroll, and it was not just fanboy talk?
Any decent opinions? Or indepth thouts?

Hi all!

So basically, i wanted Bard a lot more then Mesmer. Trough i admit, Mesmer does sound a but more unique, and is a brandmark of Gw, but still.
It all dephends on design…and not on the name, but you all know that, exspecially the devs. That is why i cant understand why we got a Mesmer.

But we got it, i am fine with this to, since i am still only considering to roll
( i alredy have an lv 40 one and leveled my pvp rank from 12 to 17 with him.)
a Mesmer for main class.
My real problem is, that Mesmer should be complementing the Bard, if it is not added.
Thief does Complement the Assasin, that was not added. It has a lot of skills and weapons and hints to the Assasin.
But Mesmer does not even hint to Bard.
Mesmers ware performers in Gw1 or Artists. And mostly musicians. And this does not even get hinted here. Atelast in combat or skills or weapons.

(besides sirens call, that is just an exuse for the animation,)

I personally miss a more musical theme or aspect of the Mesmer.
I recently saw the new Aion classes coming 4.0 and Bard looks really fun. It is exacly what Mesmer is not, but should be partly atleast.

A 2-3 weapon of this theme would be lovely. Something more then just 3-4 weapon each class wuld be a must have…there are billions of weapons out in the world.

I miss the “buffer” or support part of the bards. Yes Mesmer can support, but not in some fixed way, but random buffs and indirect help. (not even close to some class, that is supposed to be like warrior…Guardian insta full heal team -_-)
Why can some classes support better, without any effort, skill, trait or specialization at all, just by 1 click, and a Class that should be orinted araund it, can not even direct its help.
I understand the aspect of “denial” school, but lets not forget, it is also a class tuned to be inspiring and innovative, bot some warlock-illusionost rip of mix.

I am not sure how to put it. I dont want a full bard class. I just want to play a Mesmer, that is viable without Clones, Phantasms, if i so dersire, and have a decent musical attunement to it.

As an option, but not as a “lets take away what we currently have, and kitten of the players that like the current class, and add this instead”.
By that all this, i mean it should be added as pluss, to what alredy exist, so who wants to can chose this to.

Any decent warrior has atleast 1-2 stuns. Of not a full stunlock…Interrupts mostly destroy the rotation and you will end up half dead running….then get bullcharged and die.

But i like the Post. I am still thinking to roll an Mesmer or Ranger. Any opinion?
Rangers do look kitten, and legendary’s are cool to. Mesmer can look decent to, but seems a bit strange in gameplay, nut sure clonespamming is for me. (but i keep hearing how good they are.)

Hi all!
I been struggling since beta to pick a final main class, but it seems i keep picking wrong classes. Last time i got my Thief to 80, but stopped playing almost right away.
I find many problems with many classes, but mostly the look what bothers me.

Engineers are cool ,but basically lack any weapons, and there are so many amazing weapon skins.
WArriors have a grand selection, but almost every second playes is a warrior, whitch is totally destroying my mood to play it.
Its almost the same with ranger. Though there are a lot less lately. I am not sure, if it is worth to roll a class only for its look. As for gameplay, its quite decent, and boring, like any other class can be. Maybe a bit more slightly, since all you do is pew pew pet- pew pew. Dodge pew pew. Kite pew …….Tipical wow hunter. Or in fact any other mmo-s ranger.
But still, exacly because its decently simple you can focus on the game.

My second class i am cosidering is Mesmer. I had my share with him, but found it boring, even though, it has some decent utility. The clones and phantoms are not really my style. Not is this hybrid caster melee thingy. But it does look really cool with Dual sword, and i keep hering how good they are. In pvp, and usefull in pve.

So i dont know. Ranger seems a better choice…but will i regret it endgame?

And you cant compare eq2 to this. You should check out who and why plays it. I did…bu was extremely bored after 2 month. Even if the game itself had amazing ideas, lie crafting and housing…there rest was trash or half complete…even after many years. Almost the same as Gw2 currently.

Thank you for the enlightment, on the topic of this 3 class. I am still unsure whitch one to roll.
But Ranger seems to be a good pick, mostly based on, how cool the weapon skins are. (not to mention they have a decent number of them) Sad it has no rifle. Predator looks way better then kudzu or dreamer.
Trough i did seen some dual sword mesmers with extremely spectacular gear to.

Hmm! Good to see your opinion Dave! Thank you!
Trough i admit, i did found Mesmer interesting
(exspecially after gw1, it had a lot new things to offer),
but found it to be, to centered araund damage. It felt as it is all it can do.
(excluding the mantra healer build)
Trough i am only 36 with her yet. Damage felt a bit low actually.

I am considering my lv 50 ele isntead. Trough i dont like the design of spells, the roles and the combat feels a bit more fun then most of classes.
I also consider Ranger now. Trough i would LOVE rifle ranger instead of warrior or engineer. Maybe even a Rifled Thief. But Rangers have a lot of cool weapons like, Gs.
But not sure if it is boring as it seems. (like the tipical hunter in wow…it does feel like so on low lv) Also not sure if Rangers are another underdog class….are they?

For me the game alredy faild there, but i still have hopes, that in the future they realize this, and do something abaut it, even if it needs a fairly big redesign in many points.
Actually the current combat system could stay the same, it works decently without any “must have role” but can still benefit from dedicated players that pick up a role.
(And dont even bother saying : ppl will make you play that role then.
They alredy do -_- so there is no point in not detailing roles then.)

I must also admit, that it was stated that Gw2 will have balancing, and strenghtening the current state, instead of expanding it.
Does that mean …what?
-Balance of classes is fine, trough i can hardly imagine it without serious redesign of some classes.
-Also lets mention some terrible effects (like necros Death Shroud and Necrotic Grasp, or Scepter attacks). Will they be remade? To something more sightfull? Even Heroes 6 had a lot cooler, and sight to see effects for Necromancers -_-.
Many skills feel like rushed, and have no indepth mood, or atmosphere. As does moch of the game.
-Getting back player to maps? Without the redesign or add of the maps? Interesting.
-Strenghtening current state of game means no new weapons to fill up classes to complete state? No new skills? No new kits or abilityes? No new or redesigned class mechanics?
-It means no new pvp maps and types? No Guild halls or GvG? No personal housing? No fornitures to be crafted or obtained? No items to place in house? No chance to place your house items as you like?
-It means no new monsters? Or monster skills? No redesign of current ones to be more challanging? Or some to be actually dooable at all on solo?

There are many question i would love to be anwsered.-_-
But mostly i would like to know why are MAPS the most content in this game?
I know they DO MATTER A LOT, since they are the scene of the plots and combat and everything, but they dont feel filled.
I miss so many skills, weapons, “class aspects” and so on. Minor details, that make the game feel half finsihed even trough it is comepletely playable.
I am sure they are afraid to admit, the game got cut. To a short version of the planned content. And i am getting more and more afraid it will stay that way for to long.
So long it wont matter, when it actually gets that thing it needs.
I think more content( even if slight) would be seriously needed.

I am sure i am valid at many points, trough this ALL is my personal opinion, you must keep that in sight.

Hi all!

First of all i must admit i am still struggling to pick a class since beta, (ofc i have lots of lv 80s) and its is the fault of the game and class design, and as long as that exists, i wont be satisfied fully, but putting that aside i try to use a NPOV.

Second i am worried abaut the upcoming small and big patches in Jan and Feb. I am personally alredy starting to fall out from the game. I was and am still a big Gw1 fan, and i still miss a LOT of things that ware awesome in gw1, and are not implemented in Gw2 for no reson.
Like guild halls, or Guild wars ( quite sad there are no guild wars in Guild Wars2…you have to admit that.). Or nonwater spears, that ware planned anyway, and ware in Gw1. And so on.
The problem with that is, not that they are not implemented, but i dont see real resons not to be implemented.
Excluding from the time to implement them. And there is the point of my anger! If its only time you need, atleast give us a headsup, you are planning that, just dont have time for it.
Or there will be MANY players that will feel upset or dissapointed and take back the trust they had in the game.

And that applyes exspecially since you sead : you will “Take everything you love abaut guild wars 1”…..and you did not -_-, the game feels like less then the 1 actually in many points.
Trough i admit it does excell in many points, but thats exacly the reson the game should have more….i dont know…many things actually.
It is like “it has potetial, but something is missing”.

Third. Currently i feel like a mess with classes.
They are walled into 3-4 viable builds.
They lack combat customization.
All classes feel like : all you doo is dps, and kite for your life meantime .(dodge,snare,cc,kite)Makes combat boring.
Many classes lack balance. (yes trough you can win with any class, but there is a point where you must admit, what your character is capable off. )
Some adventages are more like disadventage (necro’s staff 1)

Trough there is no trinity, there is still a need for only 3-4 classes mostly. Rest are just fill in. And lfg is worse then any other game right now. I am lfg like 1-2 hours somethimes, even trough you removed a decently fun aspect of the game to avoid that?
Not only you took the trinity, but instead of giving all classes all roles, you destroyed all roles to.

Instead of playing a Healer if i want to, or a Tank with Ele or Engineer i cant do any of them. Yes i can be hybrid and “support” or “bunker” but classes are just way to all araund to able to fill a decent role. And that is another reson combat feels boring.

I do agree, the time of trinity is over, and there should be no system that forces the player to pick a tank or healer, or make any role a “must have”. But i do not agree, that there should be no roles. Or atleast an option to freely pick up a role if i want to play it by my OWN CHOICE!

Your mentality is what kills forums, pls do turn on the gas and light a cigar, to fix this problem.
Besides the obvious bad taste of yours.
You can not understand what does it mean to understand, what your class is capable off, in the SAME conditions. When ou can simply destroy someone with a press of q, or you need to run araund, dodge, spam 4-5 skills contantly in the perfect order, without any unlucky interupt or adittional foes…there is a differeance. And not in skill.

BTW why you all say Mesmer is good? (they complain the most) Guardian-Thief-Warr ok i admit it they are finy…what is your opinion on Eles trough?

I think it will brake it!
The game to my taste is terrible after playing Gw1.

The best things are combat animations, and the idea of combat, but not the implementation.

Anet had awesome ideas, but implemented them careless. Or maybe to carefull?

There are barely any weapons to use (means skills to) I am sure they planned a whole lot other weapons to.
(There are many hints of land spears, but they are not peresent.)

And not only this but many other things destroy the character costumization.
Like the walled in classes, that can only dps in instances, and accidentally support, with half useless heals or boons. All dephends on dodge and how you kite, whits is dissapointing and 1 dimension.
AKA combat is boring, it was on lv 4, and it is still on lv 80 fully traited to a “role” that does not even exist, since no classes are viable as a certaint combat role. They are to motch dps only, to be viable as any other role.

I have insane ammounts of problems with classes and they are currently the furthest aim for Anet. I can barely force myself to play a class for more then a week. I keep rerolling or switch character.
The ones i would like, are not implemented as i would like them. The ones i dont are not bad, but are unfun since they are underpowered, or all others play the same class to.
There is no room for personal costumization, expsecially in gameplay of the character. All the characters just dodge and nuke and kite.

And so on and on…and Anet bothers abaut…? What exacly? Getting players back to world? What does that even mean? Who cares where others are? I can Ts them all the time or chat wit them, and go togather if i want to.
Because of bad game system the game is alredy destroying teamplay, and prefers solo ramboing araund the map till you hit 80 and then keep spamming instances, at best pvp.
And all those places are group only…

Lets not mention the COMBAT ONLY game. There are basically no noncombat things to do. All centers araund combat. There are no guild halls, no guild wars at all -_- WTF. No personal house, no decent pets (you can tame or obtain or need to level or bother with atleast).
WvWvW is stupid because of the insanely big map.
Allyance battles ware 10 times better, and more thrilling. I would surely remake the wvwvw maps to be 2/10 th size and the map would progress each week, depheding on winner. And in the end of the month or half year the best could siege the worst capitol for 1-2 weeks.

So yes, i do think this will be bad. Unless there are extreme ammounts of fanboys, and blind fanatics, that still fall to Anets propaganda.
