I understand what you try to say but TOTALLY DONT AGREE.
i am alredy struggling to play the game because o terrible way of class design.
New classes give the devs a chance to start from base and build up a new thing, with new mechanics, to create a decent class learning from old mistakes.
Besides you think all players are happy with current classes? What if i want a Druid, and i dont like the current gs weapons skills for ranger? Then i should do the same as right now? Wait for a class that has the right skill setup for me?
Or roll a class purely based on 1-2 weapons skill set and ignore the rest o the class because i hate it?
Seriously the game has so extremely static classes, it would need atleast 10 more classes, or a totally remake of current ones, so they can equal to the classes they could, should be able to fill out.
I was thinking if there are legendary weapons, there should be legendary armors.
not sure how exacly, since it would be quite a ride to “farm” out all the components for each “set” piece or a full armor set. If it can be done at all.
Trough “farming ecto” brings back Gw1 memories. I guess the set pieces could be cosiderably easyer to obtain, and you would need really rare items for completion when it becomes truly legendary.
Also, less players wold only prefer only weapon crafting skills, and would go for armor crafts to.
Hello all, sorry for my bad english, but i have a serious issue, i cant pick a class to play since like….beta.
Whell i did try all classes, most of them above 20, and did pvp with them all, did try differeant builds, but i just cant find my class.
Trough i narrowed it down to 2 class, since i want to use rifles -_- sadly there is only 2 class that is able to do it.
I checked out the vid on youtube with “the predator rifle” and the engineer did look awesome, and would be an instant pick,
But Engineer uses the rifle more like a shotgun,
His owerall skillset makes him more of a mid clsoe range class
Prefers to use kits (that cant change skins)
But has fun gadgets he can use for support, and has a bigger variety of skills.
Warrior had a decent skill setup for Rifle, the tipical sniping theme i would want, but
It wears heavy armor, (trough it looks good by itself) its not really fitting for the sniper.
It is centered araund melee, and range is just a side (when you must range)
There is no real build araund it. He just “can” use it.
There are insane ammounts of warriors alredy.
So anyone can help me pick a class? I dont know, the best would be a thief with a “sniper” setup for rifle, if he could use one at all. Or ranger.
I kind of feel sad, since i would like to progress as moch as possible till crismass so i dont miss out another event.
Or do you think there is a chance other classes get the tipical ranged setup for rifles as well? Or maybe Engineers get a skill set for it somethime?
Anyone can help me? Some tips?

Thats a game design flaw that comes from “killing” the trinity and replacing it with something worse, that makes characters 1 dimensional Since all they can do is deal damage. CC and “support” cant even be considered as pure roles since you do them besides dealing damage.
The old trinity was fine, untill the devs didnt decide to FORCE players into rules, because you could not progress without a certaint role.
We should be ABLE TO PICK a role, but NOT GET FORCED to be one. . .

Its abaut the theme, and notfully abaut the mechanic of the sniping.

Able to us differeant turret models and skins

Totally agree with Lyuben, trough it looks like Engineer is a range class, its totally for close or mid range.
I cant understand why didnt they atleast give an OPTION to play rifle as range, and center the class araund it, (if rangers cant use it and thief have pistol). I am forced to play a class of totally different from engineer to have a “decent” ranged set of skills for a rifle?

You cant be real ranged with rifle, you cant have a decent turret build, you cant equip just 3 weapons whyle others can show off any kind of cool weapon, barely any armor fits the class, i hate the shotgun theme, i hate that you are forced to use kits, because you lack weapons, i hate that youc ant change the skins of kit weapons…..
AND still i am forced to play this kitteny class because its the only class that can use rifles besides WArrior, and it looks stupid to run araund with a sniper rifle in plate…. GG A NET.

Dear Devs.I understand you cant give out vital information, like what you are getting in to game, but i would like to know still, if there is a plan atleast to give Thief or Ranger a Rifle as weapon.
I been struggling since almost a month, now to pick a class i like, and finally decided to play something that has a fitting class for “the Predator” rifle.
But basically, Engineers use rifles more like a cc helper, shotgun, instead of a real “rifle”, even trough they are fun in other parts. its not my thing.
And Warriors are not really ment to be some snipers. And i dont prefer a plate class for that role anyway. Even if i would, if i heard right, it is quite boring to “shoot shoot shoot shoot” all day, since there is no real build araund it, and it bacame a bit under powered.
So my question is : Will rangers or Thief get a Rifle? With a decent ranged dd skill setup? Or can we wait an awnser in near future atleast?

I only wish to point out, what i see, from my experiance, that is what the forums are abaut or not? (to give feedback and sugest solutions, maybe even work them out) :
So i think Rifles owerall are underdesigned.
I can clearly say that it is strange alredy, that only 2 class can use a weapon from 8.
But my problem lies in the fact, that they cant even be taken as a “main” weapon.
What i mean? : Enginers can make a decent cc bould on them, but thats all, since it lacks dmg.
Warrior do have a decent dd skill setup for it, but they are not a class that is centered araund ranged, or exspecially rifle combat. ( the only “build” is precision build)
And strangely, the 2 classes that should be proficient in it : Thief and Ranger, are somehow exused from this.
THe Thief’s dual pistol is fun, but it should be a bit medum range, with more mobility.
And Ranges is exused for some lame “lore” reson, they are close to nature.
Whitch is exspecially strange since the Legendari skin for Rifles is a “sniper” rifle, that would fit a thief ( that equals to assasin, since it does not exist- comapred to many).
Instead of an engineer, that is using it as a shotgun.
So i doo think Rifles should play a lot bigger part in the game.
I personally struggle, whitch of the 2 class to play, since i dont find any of them fitting.
Sugegstion? Oh yeah…my suggestion is : Give Rangers and Thief’s a Rifle, and let them have a decent ranged build on it.
Hi ppl. So i was forced to play warrior, since Thief and Ranger cant use rifle, and i wanted a more “usefull” skill setup for range with a rifle.
And Engineer was totally fun, but it is using the crappy weapon as a shotgun.
So i got the warr togather, and redy to roll above 40, but i was starting to feel bad, for some reson. Maybe the Rifle is totally underdesigned even for warrior. Its barely a skill set, without any reald build for it, and there is no real decent order for using it, you just basically spam “shoot shoot shoot”. And even if forget these things, i cant find a decent armor, that would fit the gun.
Maybe plate is not fitting to well with a sniper rifle. I checked up cof armors, and with some minor mods it would look decent, but still nothing compared to Medium Cof armor.
Anyone any suggestions?
Whell its not a long story, but it came out quite interesting, since its not the first time i hear it from a thief, and more then hundreds agreed with it (from what i hear in game)
So the story is , that i met a Thief, we talked, and he sead he alredy had the mats to Legendary, but he is saving it for near future, when they propably get rifles.
I was no sure if he is joking, or trolling me, so i asked araund, and he is saving those mats for some time now and so are some other thief"s, and i started to wonder whats the origin of this all. But It became clear quite fast, and i realized, i would do the same (if i had a thief that lv).
So why?
1,If you want to play a class with decent range you play, ranger, or a caster.
What if oyu want to use Rifles?
You roll Engineer or Warrior…..
Engineer is a fun class, but its not a tipicall fighter class, more of a caster ish thing, that is using equipment. And most importantly it is using the rifle as a shotgun, that is totally not the way most ppl want to play a rifle. No wonder Engineer is a no go to many players.
Warrior? Yes it does have the skill theme for a sniper rifle, but its a Plate melee class mostly. You can play it range? Ofc you can, but thats not the point, the whole skill system and class is based araund melee, and only a minor part is available for a ranged build with rifles. Its more if an option, if you really need range. BAsically all you doo is “shoot shoot shoot shoot” , no real mechanic or build there. Besides a “ranged rifler” is not realyl fit for a plate class.
so there are only 2 classes that can use rifle and none of them represent the tipycal class the Predator was designed for….???
I understand that rangers are in a bit of Nature setting, but it does not mean they should not be able to use rifles, its an item like any other….
And thief can use pistols, why cant it use rifles?
Those 2 classes should be the ones, that should be able to use the rifles to full potentian and they cant equip it?
Ranges should have the tipical warrior ish skillset, and Thief should have a tipical sniping set, since his bow is mostly for aoe, and mid range.
So yes now i understand there resons, and if you ask me, i would roll a thief right now if i know they will get Rifle skills. But i dont trust Anet as moch as some others do here, so i cant decide now to roll Warrior or Engineer……
My friend coming next week and goingto play Engi, besides i dont like the shotgun set.
And warrior is just not for meh……

Whell yes, Warriors are the ONLY option right now, for those who want to play rifles, in the original way, and not as a shotgun freak.
But since its plate i refuse to play 1. Besides, its designed to be melee first of all, and i dont like to play a class only for 1 weapon…..Is the design this terrible on classes?
If you want to play an aspect of a class you are forced to play 1 class with 1 weapon?

I totally agree with you, Thief is supposed to be a “goofy” sneak araund and fool araund, tricster.
But the gameplay clearly states its Assasin. Its propably because of the bad design : Taking aways the Assasin, and compliment it with Thief.
Last week i had serious problems picking a class to play, but i decided to try Engineer, after looking up the Predator rifle on youtube, it did look to be a good pick.
But i realized its not my style of class. And it uses the weapon more like a shotgun, besides i got my friend playing who wants to be an Engineer, so i looked up the classes and realized, trough Warrior doas use the rifle a bit like a sniper rifle (exspecially with a aim timing fury skill-Kill shot) ,
but thats not the same as a Medium armor wearing Thief (assasin) that is precise, deathly and lethal. And also mobile and acrobatic. Exacly what i wanted.
I understand that there are many who say, “yes but this is not assasin, its thief”.
Whitch is interesting, since when i moan abaut not having an assasin class (yet) they say we wont have one, since Thief is there to make up for it….so i am a bit confused.
At any rate i think giving thief a rifle would be an excellent idea.
Why?
Bow is a more all araund aoe weapon for medium range ( its hard to hit on long range wit aoe placement skills). Its more a tricster range with the bouncing “auto attack”
Pistols is a decent pick, its even long range, but with all the crying araund to nerf the pistols, i think a “nerf” to make it medium range would be decent, and leave the rifle for long range dd. (many wont understand with this, just ignore the nerf part then.)
Must add also its more of a mobile weapon, then rifle would be.
So owerall i the rifle would be a ine addition to the class, with its sniping theme, that would fit the class and its style.
Any thouts ideas, opinions?

Thats your opinion, feel lucky that the current game they designet fits you, but dont ever argue with others that want something more, because you could be the one that didnt get the things he wanted in game and they do. In that time you would be the one suggestion what way to go.
Besides, i dont say destroy the current game and make something I like….

I also agree with you in the first part, since i do read a lot abaut origins of relegion/magic/supernetural and i was interested in occultism in my younger years, and Necromancy does have many forms.
But the current Necromancer is something that can be rarely described lately. Surely something other then the current one(in the game), in my opinion.
But still i think the root of the problem is that many players awaited the Necromancer and got the current thing. i dont think bugs only, would paint a so bad picture of a class by themself. So that must be the reson why many are so dissapointed on the class, instead of bugs only.
I also agree with Lukin and the rest, it feels like most classes just got dumbed in last months, like weapons and skills to.
And also dont understand why wont the personal story care for your class. It should be one of the main things that describe your character.
If i pick a class, i want to feel like that class.
Not only to have skills LIKE that class.
I still think, classes are extremely static.
They can barely do anything but deal damage. And the “support” with buffs and cc, is basically besides the damage dealing, and not a full role by itself.
So basically they destroyed trinity, but give us a new trinity that is just 1 role….its worse.
The good side is you dont care what class or role you bring, but it does not mean classes have to be 1 dimensional.
Design the classes to be able to fill any role instead of taking away roles. And make players be able to play any role, but NOT FORCE them.
I would love to see new classes, i kind of hate the current ones….all of them.

What pets? You mean minions? Oh……whell since Anet had the kitteningmegaawesome idea to redesign Necromancer, (to something i would NEVER call Necromancer) they are basically non existant besides flesh golem. Since its not in the picture.
I have ny posts, where i clearly state, how good the game was, and that it did give us what they told us, but what a grand disspointment Necromancer was.
And seriously after 5 years of waiting for a class to play, i hardly find any other class to play, so i barely play at all right now.
Why was Necro a big dissapintment?
Whell, why did Anet has to redesign the concept of a Nekromancer? Or the play syle of it?
I understand many just yell, but it is Nekromancer, it has all the things a Necro has. Like Death and dark themed spells, undead minions, and so on….whell thats right, but you have to understand not all have the same quality needs .
Its one thing to have them and another how.
Necromancer was the tipical class, that was not a player class for real resons. Because it, was hard to play out, and implement it correctly. It needed indepth design, and study of the theme.
There are minor differences in his skill, and effects that decide if it fits him or not.
Yes there are many “kind” of Necromancer’s since the video game industry started to use fantasy, but all know and agree with me, that there is that original concept of Nekromancer that was and will be the coolest.
Why?
Because it is themed araund the morbidity and core simbols of death in humanity.
*Like skulls are the simbol of fear, death, evil. Should be a Scepter a simbol of spell casting and power and rituals, and not “swinging it wildly”.
Instead use it in a way the item symbolically represents. *
And that sadly applyes to the most of Necromacer class designs.
And i refuse to understand, why players keep having this narrow minded vision, that it was supposed to be like this. Even Anet portreyed Necromancer in a right way back in Gw1. But they did not have the tools to implement the idea rightfull.
Eve was a perfect eample for it. The plae girl with a skull in her hand, sitting in a graveyard. He even imagines the skull is talking to her. It was perfectly “morbid to death” theme.
Necromancer players should be and were fine tuned for minor details like this. Currently we have a class that “has” the things and it is then?
Where are the themes that make a necro a truly dark themed caster? I mean look up the net. Check out the thousands of artworks of:
Skeletal riders with glowing red eyes. THe skull ornamented armors, and robes. The evil staff tangled with snakes and heads.
Undead mages summoning fort souls from the underworld. Of zombies rising from gaves. Armors with bat like wings. Skulls chained and floating.
Where are the ravens, the simbol of omen of death, bats and rats? Where are the scythes, that represent the reaper itself? (besides some carppy effect)
Where is the caster that is tipically a pure caster and ranged. not some melee stabbing cultist.
Where are the skeletons and zombies that represent the undeath? And not some abiminable, costructs of a prosector, or alchemist from the sepulcher.
Where is the indepth gothic feel of the necromancer?
Please give us back what a TRUE kittenING NECROMANCER IS !!!

Agreed. If the current nekromancer would be as well designed as Warhammer’s Magus is in lore and skills i would propably still play it.

And many players got dissapointed REALLY BADLY after waiting kittening 5 years for a class they remade to something they pictured.
I could imagine undead pets like : Scarabs, Crocodiles, Mummyes,
A circlet or Tiara, with a golden snake on it, or a crown, like the one Palawa had. A dagger with a serpentine like blade, for rituals (kris)
A golden bracelet and white skirt like pants.
A skill that summons a sarcophagus (that does something). Or would summon items (like elementalist does) like, canpus jars, golden whip and scepter with an ank ending.
Assume the form of a giant serpent, that has mesmeric red eyes
or a half scorpion, half man form.
Summon a swarm of deathly locust (unlike the current one they are deathly)
Summon darts of blood.
Cover an area in darkness.
An evil eye spell, that curses the foe, on sight.
Had stone tablets with hieroglyph’s on it.
The marks of staff spell would turn to hyerogliphs to.
Could wield : whips, javelin, hand sickle, charms, amulett’s, tablet’s, incense holder, glaivle (a staff with sickle ending), swords.
I am sure many players wish this halloween to hell, exspacially when there are things that need fixing, balancing, developing, and even some stuff that would need a full redesign.
But since event comes and it needs priority, devs dont care for it, or dont have time for it.
and then comes the next event of x mass….and WHEN THE HELL WE GET THE CARE WE NEED?
Necros have insane issues, the endgame is half finished. There are only 3 pvp maps. WvWvW is crap as it is.
Events are unbalanced, some are unwinable, others are crap since you 2 aoe the whole attacking mob pack, and are bugged every third time.
an this is not even the tip of the ice berg……
Seriously leave the kittening events and focus on the game for now…..
I kind of abandoned my Nekro a long time ago, and even the game for some time now, but recently some thouts keep pressing me, to play necro.
And thats the theme of Egyipt, and why i used to love the Nekromancer class.
Sadly the classical tipe of Nekromancer is faar of from the current thing Anet calls Nekromancer, but no matter how many threads i make abaut it, it wont change.
But i STILL HOPE after i waited 5 kittening years, to play my beloved class, and it was something totally different. I still hope that in future expansion, where we get Elone, we can be a bit more classical. With the theme of Egyip.
Why? Whell Elone is currently ruled by Palawa Jako, and the theme is a bit mi of Egyipt and Arabian. The culture is rich, and so should be the skills and themes.

Whell, i gave up personally making all the threads abaut necro, the class is totally different then i would like it to be, so i quit playing it, and since other classes fit me even less i barely logged in in the last week,
so i am making this Topic, to summarize, what the Necro community would like to see in the near of a bit more distant future :
More weapons to use (not only the current ones, but new ones to)
Like : Kris -A ranged direct damage caster dagger.
Glaivle : A staff like weapon, with a blade on its end ( like polarm, or Naginata) with Aoe direct damage spells ( a bit less circumstancial like the current staff skills)
More tipe of minions
Bigger Minion models, and more detailed animations.
Some more ranged minions, maybe a caster.
A chance to change the current minions model ( via shop, or unlock)
An option to play REAL minion master.
More spectral like minions, like a wraith.
A remake for scepter animation, for something like, mesmers have on Gs.
Rework of life steal effect and animation, to something more sinister. Something that feels like the soul is draining from the target, and not some balls.
A chance to play Nekro as a REAL ranged,(and nuker) character, with some option (since it is supposed to be a pure “cloth” caster. It should be one of its base features.)
An option where you can change the effect, or skin or modell of your skills (like banners, minions, spells). Via shop from gems, or sme hard way to unlock them.
( you could have an option to only see the original effects on others.)
The following skin, skill, and model themes :
Egyiptian, ( mummies) Gothic, spectral, classic ( the skeleton and zombie necromancer)
An skill theme of : rituals.
This is my current wish list, (besides the problems i could list on pages long.)

I was cooling of a bit from gw2 and saw Witcher 2 on my table. I checked out the box and summoned the awesome game time i had with it, and it popped in to my mind,
I make Geralt in Gw2.
I checked out 2 classes that could fit for him ( ranger and thief). Mostly because of the medium armor, and the dual Wield of sword and dagger (is like a short and long sword), trough Thief’s combat resambles him more, the Ranger can use 2H sword.
So i was wondering anyone got a suggestion? Ranger or Thief?
And what profesions?
I had a quite decent topic abaut this whole thing, araund 10k view’s. And the ideas ware good, how to implement something that lets Enginers use a more “ranged” rifle , but still keep the current one to.
Things like : Sniper kit and , switching the weapon switches it to the same weapon but with different skillset ( the engineer mods the weapon) and things like that, but in the end it was closed down because some moron started to argue and troll.
I still dont see a reson, why cant Enginers get an option to play “long range direct dd” with there main weapon. I am sure the 80% of Engineers (or would to be enginers) hate shields, or pistols to lack of dual shoot. Or kits at all, since Weapons skins look totally mind blowing, and rifle is the only item that can be really altered and seen. So they use mostly ONLY that.
Besides the fact that Anet Clearl states that Enginer is Long range intended class, with support and flexibility. …
But in fact i had to reroll to warr, to play rifler class.
Whell i did not want to name classes i miss, since the curent ones are quite fine (for most ppl) so i cant “moan” abaut them.
But i really do miss themes that need to be used.
Like there are no “druids”. Even if you dont call it that way (trough thats the official folklore name for them) a caster, who is using the forces of nature. And as a caster, not something like a ranger.
Second, i missed the aspect of shape shifting. I dont quite like the WoW style of shape shifting, since it forces you to stay in 1 model that has no chance of changing his gear, and show of the hard earned weapon and armor skins.
But i am sure it can be implemented in some way. (like the new hero in lol, half spider half man) It is really a big part of fantasy i do miss it.
Third i miss, rune spellcasters. The theme of runes is a major part of fantasy to. even in real life, in occultism,ezoteric’s and so on, runes are used and they are just “upgrade items” instead of base to some spells.
4, I also miss a caster that is less circumstancial, then the elementalist, it flings spells fast, moves trough the battlefield without effort. Dodges, blinks, makes a backflit to the nearby rooftop with a jump spell.
5, I also missed a classical wizard like class, it was totally dissapointing not to have any in a fantasy rpg. Mesmer,Ele and Necro are all specialized forms of that, but they dont even hint to the original class they ware.
And there are MANY more classes i could mention that are non existent in this world, even trough the game hints to them.
And there are many players that say : Thief is the Assasin deal with it? REally? Should i reply? Then scew you i wont play for sure? I really dont wish to. Only because some players dont understand, that a Thief, no matter how all araund it is, is still a Thief, it was designed to be a thief, and not as an Assasin
It wont cover the theme of the assasin, it might take its role, but it cant take its theme, unless you get extreme ammounts of character costumization. Whitch is totally away with these fixed skillset weapons. You cant even try to be like 1.
And this does apply to all classes.
Eather we need insane ammounts of character costumization, so we can cover all the themes, or we need new classes. (soon)
This might sound “moaning”. And complaning, but what would you do, if you have a good designed game, and game world, but you cant find a class to play it with? I am alredy at the edge of stop playing (untill next expansion).

The reson i dont try to take a “side” is because there are parts that are good, and parts that are bad.
The whole base of this topic is indepth design and not something you can clearly see unless you play mmorpg-s and rpg-s since they are out. and i cant express myself good as i should, to make my points clear.
As for try them out. I did. I would not even start a topic like this without checking out all class atleast in pvp. But i alredy have all classes up to 40-50 alredy. And did WvWvW and normal pvp to. Quite a lot actually. And i still cant decide on a class, because some stuff bothers me. At first only a few things, but later on i get the feeling i picked a wrong class and it is not fitting me.
To the point the game becomes unplayable. I just dont see resons why should i look for a problem in myself in this topic. But might be, that i am to picky? At any rate. Even if the game is awesome, if you cant pick a class you like ( or there is none in the game) it is no use to you.
Ill try this halloween event, but not sure ill waste to moch time on the game till some expansion, unless some big changes are made i guess.

So onto topic.
I think classes are way to boxed in, and thats because you didnt destroy trinity, you just remade it to Damage,Support, Disabler.
Whitch is not a bad idea, but it is not worknig for me clearly. I might even say the Support-Disabler roles quite feel worthless, since you cant tell the differance clearly. And the Damage role feels like you are just a fill in.
I think, the problem is not with the roles, but with the design.
The Tank,Healer, DD roles are clear and have a pure strong base. You are clearly taking up a described role. Propably a role you like, (trough you want to have a chance to take up another, or fill another role to somethimes.)
The Dd,Support, Disabler roles are not concrete. You are not dooing a concrete thing, you are just there for “something”. And thats the reson you feel useless. And in dungeon you pick a role, that does not even exist actually, or you are not even sure it is usefull.
*In the end all you feel is that you are dooing : damage, spreading boons, and conditions.
And thats quite strange, since the concept of the game is supposed to be " you see clearly what you do" *. And boons are mostly not noticable, exspecially in there effect. ( the exuses are in minority, there are some usefull afterall)
This applyes mostly to pve. In pvp they are noticable, mostly. Orcount a bit more.
And this points to the :
Many players propably want to take up a role, so they can play a role . Its an role playing game afterall.
Roles are a big part of rpg-s, that let you costumize your character, personality, play style. It totally descibes, what your character excels at.
I understand that the old, mechanic of trinity is outdated and bad. Looking for a certaint role only to progress is reeeeeeeeeealllly bad.
But there is a thought that is the key to this all : You are forced to a role, since you need 1 to progress.
But in Guild Wars 1, you ware not forced to any role, but still could take up. You did not need that role to progress.
For example. In wow: there are many tanknig and healing classes, many classes that can do both or even 3 tipe of roles almost at the same, if there would be no : Gems,specialized gear, talents, glyphs. It would be quite fun as it was early in the game (in vanilla) It was almost like Gw2, where you could take up roles and heal, if needed, but you ware not forced to it. It was a LOT more fun than the curent trinity. Since the design was not flawed, and it was not simplified, to the current tank-healer-dd.
Another example. In D&D ( the paper and dice, not online) you didnt need to take a role up untill like 10-15, but could still progress.
Each battle was life and death, and that was fun. And Gw2 is trying to go the same way as old school D&D. but remember, you could still take up almost a “role like” thing and say i am going to specialize in healing.
It might be just my opinion, but the trinity could be nice if it is not forced, but we could still take them up. The current community clearly shows, “they dont pick someone instead of another, just becoause it has 10% more dmg”. So i dont think that would be a problem.
Currently i find all classes boring, and hardly play anymore,since i cant STILL pick a class i really like. And thats mostly because the way classes-skills-character and game syle costumization is implemented.
Maybe later on the game gets more interesting with more weapons, skills to pick from, classes and races, but right now i feel like having a 2 dimensional character, and the only thing that keeps me in that, my friends come next week, and that :
Anet Devs are still the best, even considering all this. They are the best the industry can offer, they are willing to think,plan,design. And they are good at it also.
THe game has its flaws, but in other hand it shows extreme potential. It made a big step forward in many parts of mmorpg genre, and it still can move forward with carefull and good design.
The artistic stlye is purely what we want. Combat is sligtly boring, but it can improve, as soon as we get more chances to costumize aur skillsets. But in other hand its quite detailed, and looks amazing.
So before anyone starts the flow, i find Gw2 a good game. And this is a constructive feedback and thread. Dont take it up as “moaning”.

Its just a suggestion, not an plea to implement it.
On bug topic, it dephends on what your priority is.
Since i hardly find any class fun right now, or fitting to my play style or taste, i hardly care for a bug that hinders me to finish an event.
But besides that you are right, adding a class right now is not an option, and i am not asknig for that, i just wish time make a big list of classes, roles, themes and play syles that can be used in the future.
If anyone has additional ideas for the class i gladly put them in. Or constructive feedback is always welcome.
That should be enough. I leave the utility for later, but i am sure there are tonns of skills that could help support others, like cool breeze, that helps regain endurance and stuff.
For class mechanic i think the best would be : Stances .
Crane stance for swift and punctal attacks.
Shadow stance, for fast movement skills.
Dragon stance for powerfull but long cooldown skills.
Some skills should have 3 tipes of side effects under there original effect, based on the stance you are currently using.
For example : Touch of quinglogs melee attack gets bleed and cripple to if you are using Crane stance.
But if you are using it in Shadow stance, you leap back after using it.
Shuriken toss :
The ww tosses a shuriken and 2 more after that. (deals Dmg)
If the player activates the skill after the first, the shurikens split to many shadow shurikens and apply blead, but less dmg. This replaces the 2 additional shirkens that the ww would toss.
Slicing wind : I could think of a “auto attack” (1) for this skill. The Ww flings a blade of wind at long range that couses bleeding.
At the first cast only 1 blade, at the second the ww will hold 2 blades and throw them at the same time, at the third the ww spins araund and tosses a big one. (could couse bleeding with secind phase)
Touch of Quinglong : A dragon shaped sperpent coils araund the ww, from air, then it rushes the enemy dealing damage in a line and knocking aside foes from that line. If the Skill is on cooldown, the WW can still use the skill for a melee attack that couses weakness for a time.
Whirling death : The WW floats up a bit in air and spins the winds araund him, and throwns in a hanfull feathers (of a cocticate) that are sharp and hard, and cuts foes, cousing bleed.
( this might be a aura also, that would stay on the character for a short time)
Avatar of 4 winds : THe ww surges with power and gains the power of the 4 winds. As long as the skill lasts he converts the 20% of damage to healing(a percent of damage heals him).
Adittionally he gains attack speed and summons 2 daggers that float araund him and cut enemyes. (besides the weapon he is holding)
Chakra weaponry : THe ww imbues his daggers ( dual dagger) with the power of wind, this will grand him increaced range on his melee dagger attack, and improved damage ( flying dagger)
Flying dagger : Another auto attack on “Wielding dual dagger”. THe ww throws the daggers at the enemy in mid-close range and the dagers cut them, and return to the ww, since they are guided by the wind. (like a telekinetic attack)
Water-Air Justsu : Black lightning .
The ww moves the water in the air araund him untill it becomes superstatic and can unleash a black ligtning, for massive damage, after a short channel, that will hurt him to, unless he moves from the spot. ( the spell will leap him back after it finishes by default, unless he gets interupted, he still finishes the spell, but wont leap)
Vacum : The ww moves sideways with a leap aided by the wind, and leaves a spinning orb of air, that explodes (dealing damage knocking foes back, and then pulling them in)
Strangulate : THe ww starts drawing out the oxigen from the air araund the target foe. That wil lleave him weakened, and crippled for a time. Movig araund helps remove the effects faster.
(this could also be a underwater skill, that deowns the foes)
Focused will : After activation the ww gains swiftness and can jump 2 times bigger for a short time. And starts throwing poisoned needles at nearby foes (2-4-6 at a time). ( this replaces his skill 1)
Hello to all again! Here i am with another fresh idea, for future class.
Today i had the idea of making a class that fills a gap in the class themes, but is also close to the Lore and current game status.
I am hearing from more and more players : Tengu are going to come soon as possible as next playable race. And thats a quite decent thing. But even if they are not going to be playable, the class is quite fitting for the current class set.
So lets look at the curent things we know abaut tengu : They live in the Dominion of winds. They are based on Japan mythology. And have 4 great house that are named after the 4 winds.
So the base theme is East’ ern mythology and Wind.
Looking at the class list and the feeling that classes give, i missed the : A caster that “cuts” trough the map flinging spells at foes.
From that i themed a caster that focuses on swift offensive spells, and can move araud the map quicly, and react to enemy asap. Or how should i put it? A bit more snappy, and less circumstancial.
The Wind Walker
Why? We alredy have an Elementalist, with Air attunement.
My answer is yes. But it is themed araund 4 elements and is a lot closer to a “ceremonial” and circumstancial Wizard, then a real “battle mate” that roams the battle field. And is also more “blunt” in the tipe of spells he is using (besides like 3 skills).
The Wind walker is a class that represents the mix of a fast phased Thief,Ranger and a Caster. It is mobile and acrobatic, but wields spells instead of weapons (mostly). It can fling out a spell like a Warrior can cut with its sword ( in reaction), instead of casting carefully, (like the elementalist’s fireball feels like)
In other hand, i did try to implement a class that does live up to the cutural aspect of East, and Tengu, and assumed, it could have skills that a warrior would have, mostly. Or more likely a ninja.
Trough it needs carefull design, that it wont feel like a Warrior, or a Thief. It will also need Cloth armors that are slender and tight so they wont bother him in battle.
Ok now some examples for skills.(and remember, like in my other posts, they are a direction, and not a concerete skill list)
Before anyone starts the flown, i most express, that i love the game, and IT DOES inprove the game industry by a lot. All my respects to the devs, they did some incredible thing, by creating this game, and improve the whole industry with it.
No negative feelings. I just try to write down my thouts and opinion on the current game industry, considering the game.
Ill reply soon, and try to be more simple, so all can understand what i try to say.
I personally think that a system where you can specialize to what you can do best, is the best.
But for that you have to have base classes, like Warrior, tha can (for example) evolve in the direction of direct combat with physical weapons. Whitch is a base concept for the “class”, but does not specify a lot of other things. It leaves the costumization to the player.
Onto weapon topic i think Gw2 Did a good job. Another good point toward inproving the whole genre.
Characters do use weapons to combat. And skills and the things they do should be the things they do with the weapons.
Its the way to the future. Where players wont have “skill” bars, but can do many things that snap into there minds. They wont be limited to “combat” or items they posess, but can manipulate the area freely, and influance things araund them in a moderated way (like in real life you cant achive anything,).
I mostly just mention this, since the “skill” and control system is hardly influanced by thechnology. As long as we are using monitors, and keys-mouse we are not on the right tract to the best gaming experiance.
If i had to make examples i actually could mention many things. I should propably start with the “Matrix” like gaming, that could offer life like experiance, where pain had a limiter, and you could access menus, by concentration.
I could make a more detailed example trough : the Anime called : Sword Art Online, that is closing onto the perfect system for gaming, but its still not it.
A few more words on combat. Yes its the right way. It needs to be interactive. Like it is in life. Trough there are good and bad implementations in Gw2.
For example : Dodge, and using the terrain is a really awesome and good idea. It is how it works. (you have a grand benefit if you can shoot ppl from a rofotop of house and they cant even reach you-because you shoot them to dead before they reach you).
And i must also admit, the Graphical and Physical engine adds a lot to it. Or might even could say : It is needed for it. For example : To make combat more realistic or reactive, and make players able to dodge attacks, you have to make skills that effect the area (like in life) and not a target. This can be implemented on Arrows (trough the shooting is mostly passive, and not you are aiming) since they fly slow and you can dodge them. And you can dodge a slow hammer attack that has a “charge up” , but making a skill "riposte"is not the right way.
In a melee sword fight you block or parry in a split second, and not hunker up for seconds. But the game system (not the player) can really react to this. I think this cant be implemented with the current technology right now. This is why i think the current solution is the best for this : Parry and and fast manuvers must be passive. The characters eather able to block or not.
I think the important part of this is more likely the part where : Players are able to se it.
Its a thing, that players se a text pup up : Parry, and another where they see there character deflect the attack with the sword, altering its course.
So they can se whats going on in the fight. And are not forced to imagine the fights. Currently the most mmo-s and rpg-s offer a symbolic fight, instead of showing how it really happens.
For a good example i could say : Assasins Creed.
And for bad : WoW.
Players get the feeling, they do effect the world. Thats why the skills that effect the enemy feel so good. Like a hammer attack that knock’s the enemy back. And the animation also shows, the enemy get up from the ground, and not just getting knocked back.
Those are the small parts that really improve the combat and its feeling.
Whell there are still amny things and thouts i would like to mention, but dont want to drag this to long. (besides i have to go) I hope this gave a bit of direction of future gaming, and what should,could be the future of gaming. What is lacking and what is heading right way. What ideas are good, but bad implemented. And most of all an constructive feedback, for the devs. And i hope that most of you understand even trough my bad english grammar.

Might sound corny, but thats the theme i would like to talk abaut a bit and send a bit of feedback on the game system, and what way it can improve. (in my objective opinion)
First of all Gw2 did achive to improve the mmo’s system of combat and gameplay.
Mostly in the area of “quest” and earning experiance. Trough, they do point towards an gaming genre where we wont be needing experiance or leveling. All you have to do is enjoy the adventure.
Instead of levels you can improve yourself ( your player skill) or how you combine skills, and, the skill’s themself will only improve slightly, but only if you use them.
( the skill unlock system is trying to implement this, with low success i must admit, it should be detailed out, its a good idea).
Taking away the trinity is also a step forward, realizing, classes and roles cant be squeezed in to 3 buckets. (roles-Healer,Tank, DD). Since in life, and fantasy games, movies, paper rpg and books, “heroes” and characters have unlimited roles.
Sadly instead of providing uprgade to this Gw2 destroyed most roles and you dont have any rigjt now, besides DD and “support-disabler”. So its actually 3 role again, and since Support-Disabler is not so detailed and not a stand alone role its basically 1 and a half. Whitch is worse then the original trinity.
THe old trinity had to go, but for a reson! It had bad design, it was not bad in default idea.
It forced players to take up roles or have them in team.
The reson why Gw1 was outstanding from the rest of games, was because it had the trinity (trough i admit tanking is non existent) it was not needed. You could take up a role, but was not forced. You simply assigned an npc.
I could say another example for a system working well with tinity, where it does exist, but its not forced, and works well. To be blunt i would say, still the best system : Dungeons and Dragons. Yes the original fantasy rpg of them all. You can take up healer role or tank, and dd, but you are not forced to. And it worked. It was harder, but a lot more real to, like it would be in life. Combat is a life-death thing.
I say the future of gaming has no roles, but you do what you can do the best and that points to the next topic :
Classes. Whats the point of them? Whell there supposed to be 1. But its fading as the game industry is evolving to the level, where players want to costumize, how they fight, the theme of there skills and effects, there armor, play style, and weapons of course.
Classes are a thing of old, that gave you a preset template of character theme.
Now Fantasy and rpg is a common thing, (exspecially with all the movies and games araund) players have more specific ideas what they want.
The static class system that Gw2 offers is basically worse then most games offer. And thats because, weapons have a fixed skillset. And that leaves no costumization.
The 8 classes wont even nearly cover all the themes, that a fantasy game can or should offer.
I am forced to make an example, because its hard to explain with my bad english :
You dont have a base caster class that you can evolve in the way you want, instead you have 3 alredy specialized class, but that does not cover(and cant do it anyway) the rest 10000 tipe of casters, many players would like to play.
Ok so first off all i agree with the Bloodlust.
“we can create our own personalized fighting style” This is clearly hitting the spot.
Why do players start to feel unsatisfied sooner or later with all the classes? For exacly this reson. You cant change even a slight detail in your play style.
Example : You want to be more " assasin ish" but all the classes that offer the prefered play stile lack something that you would want in your play style.
Another example : Thief wont be a good assasin, since if you need (or would like to) to go ranged, you get a tricster skillset, for aoe, and it clearly shows its for the pure purpuse : you can be ranged here are all the skills you need, but in range.
So to be blunt : If you want to play Assasin" ish then all you would need to do is change some fo your bow skills, but you cant, since classes are “static”. Or like crowd product : made for mass produce, without a chance to change what it is. “you have to buy another tipe if you want to do something other with it”
I hope i was clear on this topic, and dont have to write pages to make myself clear.
And this is the base of the problem, from this comes the exacly same reson “players want more weapons” , because they would give more skills sets, BUT that would not be a solution, sine they would give another FIXED skillset, you might actually find to your dislike. You do get more skills, but not the ones YOU would like.
Soulution : Anet should give a DIRECTION on skills instead of concerete skillset.
Another Soultion : If you do give weapons, then give many of the same tipe of weapons, with slight differences : like Dirk Ronderl and Kris are “daggers” the same way, but a bit different, and could offer sligtly different skillsets (trough this is a bad solution on the long run : you would need insane ammounts of weapons in the end)
Another problem of the system is : (seriously read before saying anything) is the Missing trinity !
YES the fact that you dont NEED healer or tank, is GOOD, since it solves a LOT of things and problems, but remember old school rpg and fantasy : You had the trinity, but did not need it ! <— basically the soultion.
It did feel good if you COULD take up a role, but it was not a MUST HAVE. You did feel more unique, and the skills offered a BIG dimension, instead of 3 tipes of skills : Disable, buff/debuff, and dmg. This is really dissapointing, (trough “disables” can be made to a whole new world if well designed (like summoning wall"s, or pitfall"s, or knockback, if the map is well designed, and it IS))
For example : Gw1 had Healer (trough i could not call anything tank) but it was not an issue, since if you needed 1, and there was none araund, you just assigned an npc to it. (hanchmen and heroes). but you could still assume the role of 1 if you wanted to.
Another big thing is that : Yes, There are a few skills currently, but would not be a problem if they ware designed a lot more deeply and there ware more roles that you need, or could take up.
For example Gw (again….see how good your own game was?) You had many skills, and you could take : Self Harming roles – To counter burst and fast “builds” . You could make Aoe disabler builds, – To counter minion master and Npc swarm"s. You could make Minion master – To dominate when you can stay behind and support. An interruper build- against healers. And almost limitless chances to costumize your gameplay, or the theme of your character , without having 1000000 classes. (in many cases you didnt even need dual class)
And yet again onto classes and skills : you dont need a million of them, but consider this: there are only 8 classes, that are not really “base” fantasy classes (even the warrior and ranger-thief, are themed araund a part of the base classes they should be) and CANT offer a lot of costumization.
Because you cant redesign them araund themes. Atleast not to many, besides main concepts. Understand this Anet : you designed a game where “farming” and gear is not the main feature (like in wow), the game and Exspecially combat is centered araund the look of your weapons, armors and the combat itself.
You can costumie your weapons, armor, your characters look, but not the game syle of your class, or character. (atleast only in am inor way). Nor the look, or theme of your skills (whitch should be a really awesome benefit of your shop, if you would implement additional looks for skills, that ayou could buy or unlock).
You are defeating the point of your own design.
First of all i must admit i felt the same way after few days of game time, compared to Gw1.
But lets keep a cool head and try to be objective, and see things from a passive view.
The game itself is quite good, and the combat is really innovative, and its heading towards a good way. A way that will lead to the BEST kind of gaming experiance, BUT the time for it is not now.
The : dodge, parry and interactive combat is really the good way, but the technology of gaming is not grown up for it yet. For example :
In real life when you use 2 swords. you CAN parry an attack with a sword and it DOES deflect the whole damage, but you wont just “hunker” up and focus on parry for 3 sec. You do it in a split second and use your other hand sword ( or any weapon) meantime. Thats the whole reson you are using 2 sword instead of 1. That you can both attack and parry. Or attack from 2 angles at almost same time.
You can even compare to the “parry” that is in game. BUT it is a sign that the game industry IS trying to improve to that direction. A good direction.
Summa Summarum : THe game industry and technology is not grown up for the way Gw2 is trying to implement. But its still fun, besides the things the op pointed out. So lets get back to the level the current game design can offer and se the problems.
Second i would also like to express, that i seen a lot of topic’s like this, or topic’s that try to express this, with less or more success. Some players dont understand what the op’s try to say, do to the fact its not really an easy job to express an indepth feeling from a complicated system.
But trust me IT IS an issue, and it must be hanled.
So to the topic. I try to be constructive and also try to point out possible soultions, not only criticize.
So lets try to brake down the feelings to points why does the combat feel
Boring and to simple,
And why cant classes feel complex or flexible? Why do they feel superstatic?
Why want many players more weapons?
Why want many players more classes or suggest tonns of them?

I had Quite the experiance in PvP if i consider i am playing since Everquest 1 and did try most of the important mmo-s so faar. And have to admit, Gw1, Dark Age of Camelot and Lineage 2 has the BEST PvP so faar, if i exclude the “normal” pvp maps in Gw2. Those are quite awesome.
And i realized, whats wrong with WvWvW !
Trough it DOES contain all the things we ware crazy for in pvp, it is not working somehow as intended. Or how we imagined.
-It is zerg is. Or you dont see a single soul, or you have to face insane unbalance in number of players, instead of fun and populated and balanced Sieges and sisge Warfare.
It has many issues ( and many awesome parts to, like guarding supply routes and things), and i think the problem is mostly based on :
The map is way to big even for 3 servers.
I would personally keep the “Ethernal Battlegrounds” , but the rest needs to be smaller OR :
Here i had the idea :
Players should be only able to use the maps 1/5. And cosidering how the outcome is in 1-2 days can proceed on the map based on the winning side. And you could siege the enemy Castle map after 2 weeks.
- I must add trough. Even the small maps should have all the features that are good in the “big ones” . Like trade routes betweennsupply camps and Castles and smaller forts.
-But in a lot smaller map, where players can meet and have combat a LOT more often and dont spread araund and cluster to zergs, or spread so thin, they are basically alone.
This would provide more skirmishes and some Big sieges.
(-There might even be a “reservation” for castle sieges. Like old mmo-s had. You register ppl at an npc for a siege at xy time. Then a defender or attacker can register to. ( just an idea))

A book that has articles on all the important things in the world you encounter.
Like the list of human gods with avesome artworks for each and description.
You could unlock these topic’s by exploring Poi -s .
This idea materialized in me when i was exploring Divinity’s reach (fot the like 6th time) and visited the vista and “temple” at the “Dig”. And realized i still dont know nothing abaut it. Why is it there, how does it connect to things? Or is it simply a cosmetic?
And i didnt had any “book” or icon where i could read up on it a bit. It would be really awesome to have an option to look up lore and world things in some sort of cool way.
The most awesome would be another laber in “my story” that had Audio comments, artworks on the most important topic’s. Maybe even some thouts on the topic from some devs

After implementing costumizable Guild Halls and Personal housing, we could use some of this.
I dont think it really matters, what kind of armor you have on, as long as it pleases the player’s eyes.
I dont think any harm would come with this. Unless the crybaby “systemtrolls” comeand say, ohm you wont be able to tell what class you play agains in pvp. Like that would be a problem, but what ever. I think there are only lame exuses fror not implementing this.
I personally wanted to play a Warrior, did love it, but in the end i rerolled, becouse it looks stupid runing araund with a rifle or bow, in plate.
It totally ruined my game experiance, unlike some stupid crap “cant tell what class it is” in pvp.
AND DONT EVEN DARE TO TALK ABAUT D&D !!! This game totally ruined anything that the perfect fantasy system or world d&d could offer. It destroyed and innvoted classes in terrible way compared to tradicional fantasy.

Second and most importantly. This game offers no real aim endgame, besides pvp and to look good. (quite sad that you cant costumize your class plays style only your look)
The whole game and gear and market is centered araund looking good. So i dont se the point of taking away possibilityes from players, to look as they wish to.
And anyhow, i seen lots of npc using heavy like armor and using bows, or non class npc-s at all.
BEsides, there are slim plate armors to, that let you move freely and able to perform stealths and things.
And not to mention its a fantasy world, dont let simple exuses bind you. In a world of rayguns and Dragons, floating cube towns and most of all magic, this is supposed to matter.
I must agree. Atleast give us a small letter, that you do care, and are working on improving the game xy way.
Or plan to add Guild Houses or xy . I dont want detailed information, but a direction you want to head would be good.

Yes that does sound fine. I thout i mentioned that this would only apply for melee weapons, like : Dagger, Sword, Axe, Shield.
Trough i admit, using the ofhand pistol sounds interesting. There are plenty of films that have an excellent melee fight with a gun, or where they use it close range.
(would perfectly fit the thief’s dirty fighting technikes)

I dont think that will be nessecary, if you are not in melee range and have a ranged item in ofhand, you simply dont use it. (in my opinion) Unless its the “ranged part”, but you stop the combination after this part.
For example : Thief Sword-Pistol 1, skill : Cut (cuts the enemy), Spins araund and cuts again, Shoots the enemy in bowel, if its ranged then it shoots him simply. If he is ranged then stops auto attacking after the shoot.
Or something like this.
I also forgot to say that when i say Dual attack for skill 1, I dont mean the whole combination, only parts of it.
But the Enchanted basic attack is an excellent suggestion.
For example : Mesmer : using 2 sword.
Starts auto attack and Uses Mind slash and Mind Gash, but at third attack he could use skill Number 5 (phantasmal swordsman) and instead of simply summoning the phantasm and canceling his auto attack, he converts his mind stab to a dual sword attack on the legs, that will cripple the enemy and also summon the phantasm.
Actually i wanted to say it wont give you the effect of the Skill Number 5, only some other benefit, but that would mean, you would be forced, to use your n5 skill for its own effect to times you are using skill n1 -s first 2 attacks, where it wont effect the n5 skill.
But for another example : Guardian using Skill 1, Sword of Wrath and then would use Sword Arc, but will use an Dual attack each time if you have a Torch in ofhand dealing a bit of fire dmg to.
