Lots of people have, apparently, way to much bloodstone dust. It would be nice if there was a mystic forge recipe that resulted in T6 materials.

Or maybe make a 2nd Mystic Clover recipe that uses bloodstone dust instead of philosphers stones (1 coin, 1 shard, 1 ecto, 100bloodstone dust).

Rare consumables based on dye system

in Suggestions

Posted by: Neural.1824

Neural.1824

In order to add to the challenge in PvP, and in order to add some spice to PvE, Anet should introduce some truly rare consumables, and base them on the same type of system as the dye system.

Example: Player kills mob, gets loot, and in the loot is a rare-consumable container. They can then A) sell it on trading post, or open it and see what it reveals, and then choose to either use or sell the result.

The consumables should be combat related, and need to be truly rare. Not “rare” as in yellow named, but rare as in they drop about as much as precursors do right now.
On top of that, the resulting consumable needs to be ridiculously powerful, but the more powerful it is, the more drawbacks it has.

An example would be a consumable that has an AoE effect which makes everyone in range take only 10% incoming damage for 30seconds, but they are rooted, and cannot move for the duration, nor can they cancel it.

Yes, this would be terrible to go up against in WvW, but the idea is that such a potion is so rare that it would sell for 5k gold on the marketplace or so.

Other consumables could have devastating effects but cost the user their life (go straight to dead, do not pass go, do not collect 200karma).

Again, the balance against their strength is their drawbacks and their rarity/cost.

CDI- Character Progression- Vertical

Hi,

To clarify I am looking forward to hearing the communities thoughts on speed of acquisition such as how long crafting time takes? or drop rates in fractals and other areas of the game etc.

I hope this adds some clarity.

Chris

As the only person in GW2 who is actually happy with Ascended crafting, I’m going to mention the one problem I have that is related to it, and it’s the same problem I have regarding Legendary weapons as well.
T6 mats are simply too difficult to come by in PvE. They are a major requirement for attaining level 500 in any crafting profession, and they are part of Ascended crafting as well. Almost every other material required for Ascended crafting can be obtained in general PvE. Things like wood, metal, etc. are obtainable through a process that can be written down like a recipe and is not dependent on RNG or crippled by Diminishing Returns.
I know I’m alone on this one, but I love the way ascended weapons and armor are crafted. It’s what I originally expected to find for legendary crafting, but T6 mats are ridiculously scarce if you choose to hunt/kill for them.
As it is right now, there are 30+ items in game that can be obtained easier by farming gold then buying on the TP.
I gave up on collecting T6 mats for my legendary and bought them off the TP because I had gained nearly 300gold in the time it was taking to try and loot them.
Even with farming punishment it is possible to farm T5 mats if you want to craft some gear, but with T6 or some of the other rarer items (i.e. charged lodestones), you have to be a masochist to farm them yourself.
That simply makes the game un-fun, and takes the accomplishment out of it. In fact I pretty much gave up on my legendary after my T6 purchases. I crafted the components and they sit in my bank now, lacking the precursor (which I won’t go into here).

Precursor crafting was pushed out until 2014, and the wording Colin has used indicates that precursor crafting will most likely only be available for precursors required for yet to be released legendaries.

Do not get stuck on the idea that you’ll ever be able to craft The Legend or The Lover, etc.

Cursed Shores Completion - Bad Reward

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Neural.1824

My friend and I recently completed Cursed Shores map completion.

He got a good reward and I got something you would expect from a lower level area.

Here’s what he got – 1 Black Lion Key, 2 lvl 78 exotics and a few unidentified dyes in which he got a Celestial dye.

Here’s what I got – 9 Transmutation Stones (Yellow), 15 Mithril Ore, 40 Gosssamer Scraps and a Chrysocola Crystal.

What. This really doesn’t encourage me to complete the other maps.

I’m curious if anyone else has ever gotten a bad reward from a level 78-80 area map completion.

File a support ticket, but only if you are feeling like doing something nice for future players, because Anet will do nothing for you regarding this beyond send you a message saying “whoops, file a bug report”, to which they will reply “thank you for filing a bug report”.

At this point, nothing. I am normally motivated by crafting, but since Anet seems to think the only way people who craft should be able to obtain T6 mats is via the trading post, I gave up.
I’m also at the same point with my legendary. No precursor, and I’m not going to farm gold just to buy one or throw away in the mystic toilet.
I log on once in a while when Im really really bored, of if I feel like doing PvP that doesn’t have any real loss risk to it. Outside of that, nothing left in GW2 motivates me.
Anet motivates me a LOT, but that is negative motivation driving people away from the game.

I believe most people need stuff to work for. It’s that simple. If someone gets everything they want, they stop playing the game…not everyone, but many people if not most. It happened to my son. He got his legendary and stopped playing. He came back for ascended weapons, got that and stopped playing again.

Aren’t you the one who’s always talking about how it is the victory of killing the champion that is in itself the reward? Now suddenly pixel rewards are a game killer if they are made too easy to obtain?

This what they mean by new skills?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Neural.1824

Neural.1824

Well, for one, they may certainly not be done with their plans of adding new skills. Secondly, you can hardly blame them if you go your hopes too high by incorrectly assumptions.

Except that Arenanet habitually uses slight-of-hand in wording their statements about what they are going to do in the game, to maximize the anticipation of new features without actually having to deliver what the players are expecting.

Take precursor crafting for example. They’ve been talking about it, and there’s lots of excitement among the players, but it’s pretty obvious from some statements in one of the precursor threads that what is really going to happen is the implementation of new legendaries and the ability to craft the precursors for only those legendaries.
There are a number of people over the past year that I’ve seen express dissatisfaction with Arenanet’s delivery of changes and additions when compared to the “hype” that was put out in regards to those improvements.

But that’s Arenanet’s choice. If they want to destroy any shred of respect that the players have for their word, they are free to do so. If for some reason they want to retain some standing with their customers, they are going to have to start releasing exact details on their plans, and then follow through and deliver, without any gimmicky word-mincing.

Is precursor crafting going to happen or not?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Neural.1824

Neural.1824

The ability to craft precursors would be a good feature. Make them account bound if people are worried about crashing some “markets”. For people worried about their items being “devalued”, make the craftable ones look like white items of the same type without the fancy effects even, I don’t care really.

The ascended stats and the stat switching ability is mainly the reason for me. It would certainly let me play different builds without lugging around too much stuff.

Or perhaps treat all ascended weapons as precursors. Upgrading to legendary status will be through crafting where all the craft materials are account bound.

They should just make new legendaries have craftable precursors and the existing ones have RNG precursors.

Even if I agreed with this, which I don’t, Anet has been deceptive and outright cruel in their wording regarding to precursor crafting. It’s as if they are trying to make the user-base quit.

Is precursor crafting going to happen or not?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Neural.1824

By the way, looking at the quote, and the fact that “precursor building” is followed immediately by “and corresponding additional legendary items”, it’s entirely possible they don’t even plan to make current precursors craftable at all.

From Colin’s cleverly worded statement, to the “some precursors” showing in the image provided a few posts above, I’d say you are 100% dead on right.

Anet is going to, once again, play snake oil salesman and pull a fast one on everyone. They will give us precursor crafting, without giving us precursor crafting.

Looking at the new site, I see basically nothing more than a wall preventing support.

In fact, it would appear that Arenanet is striving very hard to completely remove a players ability to report another player in situations which arise that the in-game reporting tool fails to address the issue (not that anyone pays attention to in-game reports).
While it is still possible to file a violation report, you sure have buried it well.

We have team members assigned 24/7/365 to player in-game reports. On a normal day, 100 or more players are actioned for everything bad names to nasty chat to cheating. On an abnormal day, action may be taken on literally hundreds of accounts.

No one — No one! — is ignoring in-game reports. And in-game reports have people assigned specifically to them, so they often are acted upon within minutes.

Gaile: While your statement may be made with the best of intents, I feel strongly that the team you are speaking of is making you look bad.
I’m not accusing them of anything. It’s not impossible that they are overloaded, but my own personal experience was having to contact support through the old site to finally get action taken against someone. While action appears to have been taken (haven’t seen the person for a couple days), I was still chastized by support for not using the in game system, which I had used on no less than two occasions for this persons actions over the past month.

To put it bluntly, there is a problem.

It could be like that on purpose.

Here’s the breakdown:

Make kittenty looking weapons and armours that are BiS, meaning people would want them for various reasons. Before and during the release of weapons and armours, put Transmutation Crystals on sale so people will buy them after previewing the sets. +sales

We already saw this happen for the weapons. Watch it happen when the armours come in as well.

ding ding. We have a winner!

Anet has proven to be so tight with their miserly ways that they will not even tell you if a mere four Living Story items will be useful in the future, instead leaving you to throw them away and risk needing them in the future, or let them sit in your bank. All because they are so desperate to push you at any chance possible to crack open your wallet and buy some gems.
BiS weapons and armor are guaranteed to be huge. Just look at the fire and brimstone that’s been raining down on the forums over Ascended weapons.

The sad part is, Anet will make hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of US$ on crystal sales for that very reason. It isn’t good marketing, it’s not good business. It’s kitten near scamming.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

it probably is the same dragon that you can see flying around everywhere, they may have the model in the map as an asset that can be quickly cloned

^^^^ this.

In zones where they need dragons flying around, it is likely set up so there is a base model that loads quickly with the map, then the flying ones are just instances of some sort. That way the model is always there, allowing the instanced dragons in the air to be rendered and removed at will in various numbers.

There are several other oddities like this around the game. In Queensdale from some locations you can see the initial monster you fight as a level 1. It will render far in the distance but vanish as you get closer. In the same area, if you are running out of the garrison towards the skillpoint there, you can sometimes see the various collapsed buildings going through the process of collapsing. When they initially load they are apparently complete structures.

Remove Ascended from WvWvW

in WvW

Posted by: Neural.1824

Neural.1824

1) People already say that you can do all PvE content in rares (which you can), so ascended weapons (the ~6%-12% boost) do nothing other than make things “easier.”

WvW issues aside, I am 100% for this. Taking time to gather materials and put together a weapon that makes things easier in PvE is just fine as a goal. I’ve seen multiple comments over the past year about the game not requiring exotics at all. I got 4 characters to level 80 with just rares and greens. Exotics were the “next step” goal once I got to 80. Gather mats or grind gold to make or buy them. Some of my 80’s are still not 100% exotic (trinkets are Mithril). Ascended gear is the next goal for making PvE life easier, even though it’s not by much right now.

Arenanet brought the forum rage on themselves by going with the new tier of stats. I believe what happened was they realized they messed up with Legendary weapon crafting, but instead of creating a new tier of appearance items with a new crafting system, they went the cheap route and decided to go with the easy path. Just change a few numbers and reuse existing code (infusions, etc.).

Carrying a name like “Ascended” gives many people the impression that something about said weapon needs to be awesome. Something that breaks through to stand above the rest. Instead of investing a years worth of time into creating what would effectively be a whole new line of Legendary weapons, Anet went with better stats*. The results have been seen on the forums since then.

  • this is based on the assumption that Anet didn’t have Ascended gear planned from the start, which is something that has been claimed as well

Make the cities worth going to.

in Suggestions

Posted by: Neural.1824

Neural.1824

This has been brought up before, but I’m bringing it up again. Because I believe it is something that needs to be changed.

We need incentive to go to the various racial cities to make use of them. Each has all the crafting sites, a bank, a trading post, etc. all in a close area, similar to Lion’s Arch, but they lack incentive to use beyond that.
One of the reasons I use LA, for example, is easy access to 3 jumping puzzles. I park my alts in LA and run the puzzles when I’m feeling bored. When I’m done, I don’t need to leave LA at all.
Additionally there are the five (rather useless) racial Asuran Gates (another item that needs to be radically changed so it has some strong incentive to be used), so if I am really wanting to save that 3silver, I can use a gate to get to one of the other cities. Even then, I’m likely looking to go elsewhere, and will just waypoint anyway.

Some suggestions, off the top of my head, to possibly make the cities more attractive:
1. Crafting/XP bonus or boost percentage for using crafting stations in your racial city.
2. Much lower waypoint fees to access the city your home is in. (where “much” means 50% of current costs to get to LA)
3. Add games or puzzles to the racial cities that give loot equivalent to that of the three jump puzzles in LA, but are only per race (i.e. humans only for the ones in Divinity’s Reach, etc.).

I’m sure there are other far better ideas that players have, but it would be nice to see some tangible incentive to visit ones hometown.

Collaborative Development- Request for Topics

in CDI

Posted by: Neural.1824

Neural.1824

Summary:
1. Monetization and its impact on normal game play
2. Expansion balance
3. Paper cuts

In Detail:

  1. I placed monetization and its impact on normal game play at the top of my list because, as I stated in the collaboration thread, it is the one thing I would like most to see changed in the game. My comment still stands that I often feel like a rat (skritt perhaps?) in a maze where every dead end is the gem-store, and there are a lot of dead-ends in a very large maze.
This issue, to me, covers not only the problems players perceive with RNG (such as the Mystic Forge), but also with loot in regards to T6 drops, and overall risk vs. reward (killing countless vets for loot that is no better than standard mobs, for example).
  1. Expansion balance. The Living Story is a great idea, but it is apparent that Arenanet might have made a poor decision with the two week cycle. I think people would rather see once a month and larger, as opposed to very fast and quick, and in all honesty, the two week push has resulted in many comments about poor quality. Give your graphics people a break to work on content that already exists, new armor sets, etc. between LS updates. Allow the game to not only grow, but mature as well. I’d ask Anet to focus on expanding the map with permanent zones, but incorporate the Living Story into the opening of those areas. The map is huge, let us explore it.
  1. Last but not least, paper cuts. The old “death by a thousand paper cuts” adage applies to GW2 in it’s current state. Clipping issues, abnormal visual vs. physical polygon structure (yes, I’m complaining about Troll’s End again), and other “little things” affect QoL. It is notable that Anet is not allowing this to go completely ignored, as there are little things that get fixed, but some of the recent ones, like the way people could make animations loop constantly, were not affecting game play, and seemed a bit frivolous to fix when other issues interfere with immersion or game play. If a warrior or guardian wants to stand by the Mystic Forge and spin till they puke, that’s their choice.
Anyway, having a sticky thread that is well moderated in the suggestions forum that focuses just on the “little things” might be useful for Anet if they can assign one or two people to keep an active list of small issues that affect the players QoL.

Current DR hurts more than helps

People have to no life the game to get any where or get really lucky. There is no reward for working towards things. Its just rng and DR destroying casuals fun and making them quit. Its no surprise that there are so many low pop servers in the game.

This
“People have to no life the game..” hits the nail on the head perfectly. Farming Punishment (DR) does nothing to stop the bots. It probably wasn’t more than a few weeks before the bot coders had enough data on their hands to reprogram their bots to compensate for DR. Meanwhile casual players who play the game an hour a night and a few on the weekends have no choice but to pull out their credit card (key point) to obtain materials for their goals.

Much as I’d like to believe all the excitement created by the collaboration thread, I think in the long run that Arenanet will only change things by changing their obsession with money. Everyone knows that they need real money in order to keep the game going, but if they don’t back off on this rather foolish behavior, people are simply going to start leaving, and with them, so will Arenanets income.

Tonight was super fun. I rarely go to EB but for some reason my guild was there tonight. YB was spawn camping (WITH SIEGE) and we went out and wiped them several times. Pity they were using cannons or we would have pushed them to Keep and left them there.

Thank you YB spawn campers for being easy kills. I know it is hard to play when you have more than 3 skills on your bar.

Tonight was the most fun I’ve ever had in WvW. When I got to EB, we had pushed out of OL keep right up to the edge of the ranged weapons on SF’s legendary guards. Still, we had small group skirmishes for a good hour or so.

PvE Mesmer help

Are you totally new to the game? Is this your first char? If so, struggling with PVE for lvl is very normal for mesmer. It doesn’t have many potent aoe skills to kill multiple so most of the time it wil be slaying mobs one by one. If you have friends, try swapping char when doing dungeon, that will give you about 70-80% exp per run.

Or join the zerg train, but I recommend that you don’t though… you’re gonna lose interest in the game real quick.

Also, the halloween event just arrived. Join the upleveled areas. Doing events in upleveled areas will always give you higher exp.

I appreciate the thoughts, but no, I’m not new. I have four 80’s (Ranger/Warrior/Thief/Necro) and two with world completion.

This does not, of course, mean I’m any good at the game.

That being said, it is difficult to level in the area I’m in, but I’ve never been in a position where I felt so completely powerless. I feel at times like she could beat them to death with her bare hands faster than with her GS.

I’m going to work on the character tonight with what has been suggested above and try some different things. Fortunately, being level 32, stuff is still relatively cheap and/or easy to make. Not like I’m needing to replace exotics.
