I was one of the people who created a post about this issue and its clear OP hasnt even read my post at all. I even said in the very first line that I have no problem with farm zergs, grouping and playing content as a large group. Ive played group content loads and even have been part of farm trains myself.

What I do have an issue with is people getting extremely toxic when I want to just complete an event the way the game is intended. I also have an issue with bad event design that rewards more for failure than success which causes divides in the community.

I hope Anet takes notice of mine, and other peoples posts, and addresses the issue the way they have with other events in the past and remains consistent in their policy.

You seem to be under the impression that you’re the only person in five years to post about such issues. Yes, your post came to mind, but the majority of what I have seen has been over time on Reddit, not just here.

(Note; the following is opinion and speculation based on information that is likely a year or more old. It is entirely possible that Arenanet has made changes to their policies since that time.)
I think it was early 2016 when there was a thread that showed up on Reddit posted by a user who spent some time (months) TRYING to get banned for verbal abuse. What he reported on his actions and the amount of time it went on was really sad. Eventually a dev made a comment attempting to reason away the problem, and promised that the people in charge of going over reports would be talked to.
Among the statements by Anet in the thread, it’s clear that, at least at that time, that what constitutes “verbal abuse” is not governed by any set rule, but instead completely up to the individual reading the abuse reports. Thus, if someone is reported for telling a player to take their own life, and the person reading the report thinks it’s funny, they have the ability to just mark it as “reviewed” and move on.
Much as I clash swords with them here, I think Anet should experiment for a bit and unleash the forum mods on the game.

If they put the forum mods in charge of game bans, GW2 would be wasteland within hours.

So are you categorically stating that the majority of Guild Wars 2 players are incapable of acting in a civilized manner?

If gw2 is dead

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Neural.1824

Neural.1824

It’s rationalization. “I” don’t like the game, for whatever reason, and “I” want to discourage any of “my” friends from ever playing it by declaring it dead.

Combine that with the “out of sight equals dead” notion that if you don’t see an ad for it, if it’s not always on the front page of whatever MMO news site you frequent, when it’s not one of the first MMOs listed on Twitch, then it’s dead. It’s always “what, people are still playing that, isn’t it dead?”

Maybe instead of attacking the OP, you could consider that, as this is not the only thread recently, what it is that might result in these people thinking the game is dying or dead. You are usually one of the first to jump in and tell someone that what they consider trolling might just be someone innocently playing the game, why so hasty to do the opposite here?
Depending on where you play and at what time you play, the game can feel substantially less populated. I’ve seen nights at 3am where LFG in VB, AB, and TD was empty. No-one doing meta, no HP trains, etc. If someone experiences that sort of thing on a somewhat consistent basis, it would be difficult to fault them for complaining that the Heart of Thorns zones are “dead”.
From another angle, and from personal experience playing late at night (US time zones), there are a surprising number of times when I load into a zone and within minutes am asked by the game if I want to change to another zone, because the map is closing “due to player inactivity”. Now I understand how megaserver works, and I understand that what I have experienced may in fact be a bug, but at the same time, you can’t fault someone else for not knowing that, and it would certainly have the potential to give the “dead game” feel.
Add to all of this that we’re heading into a time in which things slow down in general. We’re in between episodes, and we’re on the latter phase of being in between expansions. It appears, to me, that there are a number of people who are bored. Look at the engi farm in Lake Doric. Proven to be one of the least lucrative things to do, yet people flock to it. People just love to accuse the players of being “lazy”, but when I’ve been there, I’ve found a number of them are chatty and keeping on top of turrets as well as actively doing other things (in other words, not AFK), and other than XP, in my experience, one of the reasons I’ve been told people are there is because “it’s something to do”.
There are plenty of things taking place that might give someone the impression that the game is not doing well when it comes to player activity. Just because someone has that impression doesn’t mean they are right. Equally, you being right doesn’t invalidate their perception of what is going on.

Right now, there are at least 3 threads on the front page complaining about “farming” and “zergs”. Same applies to Reddit.
And yet, at the same time, there are other threads where-in people are being told “go play another game” because they want solo content.

So is this a “massively multiplayer” game or not? You tell people who want solo content to quit and find another game…. but then you get out the torches and pitch forks when a group of people get together and play the content as a group.

I hope that Anet has the insight to just ignore most of these type of threads. It’s like no-one plays GW2 anymore, but instead spends their time trying to convince Arenanet that people should be forced to play the way they think it should be played.

New Infinity Tools Op

Neural.1824

Not sure it is possible, but it would be nice to see the logging tool animation synchronized with it’s harvesting of 4 logs. Visually it would increase the speed, which would be nice, as it seems sort of slow currently.

However, that being said, I highly doubt it will ever be touched. I reported a bug a long time ago with the Flute logging tool in which use of it occasionally causes the player to be rooted in place after a full cycle has completed, making the ‘w’ key ineffective for a few seconds. It is extremely annoying, but Arenanet has determined it is not worth their time to fix (just one more in a long list of things that make me roll my eyes when someone praises how “polished” the game is).

Favorite Glider

Neural.1824

My current favorites would have to be the Moth Wing glider (in spite of it’s absurd limitations for dye channels) and the Wings of Love.

I enjoy the white wings, but the wing model used for the golden wings would be preferable, as it is more realistic.

Wings of Love I like because it fits perfectly with one of my characters. I like the moth wings because even though they have some areas that can’t be colored, the two channels it does have allow for variation that makes some pretty patterns.

I still want to see the butterfly back piece turned into a 4 dye channel butterfly wings glider, and while it isn’t something I personally would want, I’m sure there are quite a few that would like to see the Aetherblade back piece turned into a glider as well.

Auto-deposit would be convenient, but bad for the game.

Spirit shards are automatically deposited into inventory after dropping from mobs and as a result, barely anyone realizes that they drop at all..

So maybe pay attention more to the icons flowing down on the right of the screen? I notice spirit shards all the time when I get them.

New Infinity Tools Op

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Neural.1824

Neural.1824

It takes so long to break-even with the new infinite gathering tools that players that have other versions are better off using the ones from the LS3 maps.

Using a Gold-per-hour tool the other night, I looked at how much money I would make on a typical harvesting run (which takes roughly an hour).

Currently, according to GW2 Efficiency, it would cost you 786g to purchase 2800gems (100 more than the value of the tools). Going by just the harvested items on my 1 hour run (ignoring any loot gained along the way from mobs or such), the total time it would take to gain the gold required to make up for the purchase would be roughly 1 hour per day for around 120 days. That’s without any gathering boosts.

Yes, you have to make sure you do harvesting runs, or that you harvest any node you come across when out in the open world, and yes doing such things 120days straight is not likely.
Having the tools pay for themselves and move into being profitable however would still take less than a year if you are lazy about it.

I do wish that Anet would make it a company rule that if you design/code/whatever a special harvesting tool, that it does not make it into the game unless it is a full set. The one-offs are nice, but, for example, I’d have loved to see a matching sickle and pick to go with the Frost Wasp logging tool.

Mystic clovers are bad

While it does not resolve the OP’s issue, I learned a while back that when building a legendary weapon, make creation of the mystic clovers one of the first things you do. The reasoning is that you are going to need the majority of the non clover items it produces anyway, and depending on the quantity, you might actually be saving gold in some cases.

Oh wow Two builds on one class out of 9 classes….. and again Legendaries are luxury convenience item nothing more. And WvW already had access to HPs before HoT was even a thought…. so……..

Try reading comprehension 101. Two of the best rated builds are vanilla. There are others that are simply rated “great” and such that are also vanilla.

The point still stands. Even one top rated vanilla build is proof that elite specs are not required. The only reason you refuse to understand that is it doesn’t fit into your desire for cheap easy kills.

Neural.1824

Difference being the open world HP’s are needed to unlock elite specializations which can be directly used in WvW whereas legendary weapons are more towards optional content.

News flash: Elite specs are not required content.

Also, you’re conveniently ignoring the fact that if a person plays WvW as much as some claim to here, they are going to have more than enough proof of heroics to allow them to just walk into any zone in Central Tyria, double click for a few seconds, and instantly have every HP in the zone done. No need to take part in any of the temple events or even mess around trying to find a map where the temples are open.
Other than the renown hearts, Hero Points are the second most tedious part of world completion, and dedicated WvW players get to just click their way through it.

A lot of useful builds require them and they’re a part of active playing whereas legendary weapons are primarily for their visuals. You’re also forgetting the time it takes to unlock the necessary HP’s that could be spent playing WvW. This is different from the gift of battle that was created around WvW participation.

If you’re worried about how long it takes to double click your mouse 189times (you don’t have to be in each zone to unlock the various Central Tyrian hero points), you must dread having to sort through loot.
Just because a build that someone else recommends an elite spec, doesn’t mean it’s required. Currently two of the top rated WvW builds on MetaBattle are vanilla Guardian.

I would support PvE world dueling between two consenting individuals, with the option to not receive duel requests as the default and with limitations on players dueling in social/work areas, like role-play hubs, bank, TP etc.

This has been suggested/outlined in many of the threads over the years that have shown up on the forums. Usually it is met with mediocre “reasons” as to why that restriction isn’t needed. The truth is, they want to force people to see them “pwn that noob”, and only allowing duels in specific areas denies them that.

“4 hours” “6 hours”…

Riiiight. Maybe you guys should try playing on a dead server, or one that is only active when you are at work, or asleep, etc.

I’ve run with a “zerg” for 2 hours straight and hardly seen any advance because the opposing servers simply had far bigger blobs.

Meanwhile we constantly had to waste time hitting the repair station because while we were undermanned, we didn’t get the undermanned buff because of all the people standing around AFK to get their GoB.

As has been suggested before. They need to nuke the reward track, and bring back Map Completion. Give out one Fragment of Battle per map, then forge all four in the mystic forge to obtain the Gift of Battle. The only downside that needs to be covered is whether or not someone might be on a server that is stuck being the same color all the time.

Oh, and while we’re at it, they should remove the tokens you buy with Proof of Heroics that let you just double click to get a Hero Point.

Is expansion 2 make or break for GW2?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Neural.1824

Neural.1824

I haven’t seen much, even in the leaks, that makes me so excited that I can’t do without the expansion.
Heart of Thorns maps did not increase or add too any part of world completion, nor did the living world maps. As such, I’ve no reason to explore any new maps that may be coming.
Cosmetics is, for me, in a sad state, as they’ve released next to nothing in the past 2 years that made me go “I want that!”
The only upcoming item that I have interest in is the 2nd generation Legendary Longbow. Mike O’Brien stated in the AMA that they plan to release the rest of the second generation legendary weapons without requiring the next expansion. I’ve seen in the past what happens when Anet says they “plan” to do something (precursor crafting by the end of 2013 anyone? and what do you have to have in order to do it? The expansion).
As such, that will be the make or break game for me, and probably a lot of other people. I’m not going to pay $50+ for an expansion just to craft a longbow, especially when Arenanet has already proven that they do not care one whit for people who want to actually “collect them all” for things like weapon skins. Once I realized that I would never be able to complete the longbow skin collection, I lost a lot of interest in the game in general. Espeically now that Arenanet has proven that they are not beyond locking skins behind gambling (elemental sword). The only longbow skin that held my interest was the 2nd generation legendary, which hasn’t even been spoken of. So.. if that goes up behind a Fifty dollar paywall, I don’t really have any reason just saying “nope” and ignoring it.

Is it a make or break for the whole game itself? I think it’s pretty clear that Arenanet makes plenty of money off whales and folks who are simply happy with whatever the gem store offers. As long as they keep those two groups happy, they could release an expansion with half a map, kill off Taimi, and make the purchase of 30 black lion keys part of every legendary recipe and this game would not blink in regards to it’s income.

tl;dr: no, it won’t make or break the game, even though it should.

Zephyr Sanctum

Neural.1824

I think I read that the devs now consider every map from living story to be locked in a point of time, to explain why we will be fighting White Mantle for years to come in Lake Doric so the Zephyr Sanctum will always be recently crashed in Dry Top.

This. I believe it came out in a conversation regarding Lake Doric and why you could not see Queen Jennah’s shield/dome from Queensdale.

I’m not I like that it works that way, but keeping things moving time wise is what Arenanet seems to have originally intended with the living story, but that results in content showing up, then being removed.

In hindsight I think it would have been better planning to have a main event for each story episode, and then an “aftermath” setting that retained most of the same rewards. For example: Dry Top introduced as the part of the story about the Zephyrites, but when the next episode was out, Dry Top turns into something not quite as time-bound. Maybe a zone where the Zephyrites have overcome the crash, built a small town among the cliffs, and the players in the zone do events that are focused on preventing the mordrem and inquest from overtaking things completely. Just some way to allow people to still get geodes, etc.

Legendary Armor: Feedback [merged]

That’s the intent. Anet did as little as possible to make the appearance of the armor unique, added the features to make it Legendary, and will then go back to pushing outfits.

That theory is erroneous since the Legendary Armor will provide unique pompous effects that won’t be visible unless you use the skin.

The product has to be viable on some level, but I don’t think moving parts are going to change that many peoples opinions about the medium and light armor. I mean, up until this release, Ascended gear was pretty darn prestigious if you were into having best stats, but I don’t see that many people using the skins. As with all the skins, there are people that like them a lot (I happen to like the medium ascended armor chest/legs/boots), but when the player base has been saying for a long time that they don’t want anymore trench coats, and Anet turns around and delivers a trench coat for the most anticipated armor release in the game…. yeah.. they want people to make the gear, then buy an outfit to cover it.

It’s a simple process really, and it worked really well for them with ascended gear:
1) promote new armor with new features that no other armor has
2) design it so that it’s unattractive to most
3) Sell more outfits on Gem Store
4) profit.

To help narrow it down, answer this: does the game client notice your key presses?

That is, do you get the flashing “i’m casting” indicator on the ability you tried to use, but it never activates or goes on cooldown?

Not always. Sometimes it’s almost like I’ve completely DC’d, but chat and such are still working. In one instance in Silverwastes the Vile Thrasher I was fighting vanished after a couple seconds (but kept hitting me, though it might have been it’s goo path).

From what I’ve tested so far, I’ve got the following info:
It does not appear to be the Nvidia driver. With no other programs running (but without killing any extra system processes like DropBox), I experienced only a minor bit of dips/drops in my FPS which could easily be attributed to other factors. However, when running Firefox along with GW2, I had one small, but definite, burp. At this point I suspect it is firefox, but there’s only been 10minutes of testing there.
What really has my attention is….somewhat strange. To the point that I’m choosing at this point to simply file it as a fringe possibility, but …this only happens on my Daredevil/thief when using dual pistol. I ran around quite a while on my necro last night (finished half of Mt. Maelstrom) and didn’t have any issues (note: Firefox was not running at this time).

At this point, as I said above, it looks like a problem with Firefox. How that would interfere I don’t know, but I also need to test a bit more before making any solid conclusions.

Thank you for the information on network traffic monitoring though, I’ll see if I can find anything there.

It is most certainly a case of “sample size too small”, but so far, it really really is only when I’m using dual pistol on a thief/daredevil, and it only goes away when I get out of combat (actually looking forward to proving that wrong, because not only is it silly, I really don’t want to have to file a bug report on something that obscure).

Still amazed at the way BL items are sold.

I completely understand your sentiment, but it is very likely that the data supports ANet’s apparent belief that time restricted availability actually increases revenue. Not everyone loses.

Correction: Everyone but Anet loses.

Legendary Armor: Feedback [merged]

Medium armor is another trench coat when medium armor wardrobe is 96% trench coat. Where’s the diversity? People have stated they HATE trench coats, yet Anet keeps pumping them out.

People say they hate trench coats – Anet adds yet more trench coats
People say they hate required items locked behind failure of events – Anet adds more failure based rewards.
People want more dungeons and dungeon improvements – Anet abandons dungeons completely

Seeing the pattern yet?

Skill lag spikes

This only appears to be happening with GW2, but I need guidance on what to look for.

For the past week, I have been experiencing problems with skill lag where the game acts almost as if I’m disconnected. However, I’m still able to read/chat in local and map chat, I can still take damage (and see the numbers) from mobs, and other normal things, but I am completely unable to use any skills or swap weapons.
This problem will happen for approximately 10 to 15 seconds, and then appears to resolve itself after I’m out of combat (this is not verified though.)

Starting out on tracking this down, I’ve rebooted our router a few times, verified through testing that our connection is solid, and also tested by disabling a number of programs in order to see what might be causing the issue.

My first question, since time-wise this seems to be consistent: Is it possible this has something to do with the graphics drivers? I updated my nvidia drivers around the same time this started happening. Has anyone else had issues with the latest nvidia drivers?

And what’s so legendary about doing anything in 2-3 months?

There’s nothing legendary about the legendary weapons. The 1st generation ones can be bought with a credit card. The 2nd generation ones have a whole lot of gold sink involved, which can also be bypassed with a credit card. Champion fights? Find a zerg, done in a minute, token awarded. About the only thing “challenging” with crafting the 2nd generation legendary weapons is the stupid Adventures. The only real legendary challenges with making them is doing the same content over and over and over until you just happen to get past all the bugs to get the item you need.
Anet is not capable of making an item for GW2 that, within the game world, would be considered a legendary achievement, because their business model does not allow anything special to be created that doesn’t involve copious amounts of RNG and gold sink.

Thank you. This explains some things, like when I place an order and the price info doesn’t show up when expected (I thought prices and transactions were both 1 minute).

Not sure if this is information that has changed, but as it is related to limiting and proper use of the API…

How often is data from the Trading Post updated such that it can be obtained via API?

Amazon.com and resellers

Excluded from what? Being authorized? Depends on the retailer. You can check the full list of authorized retailers via the ‘Shop’ link.

Good luck.

If Amazon.com is an authorized digital reseller, but the retailers working with amazon that sell physical products are not, it should be noted specifically on the GW2 site that physical resale companies selling through Amazon.com may not be authorized box resale companies.
Fortunately I didn’t fall into that trap, but I did notice it was there. I wonder how many people have been ripped off thinking that the resellers via Amazon.com are legitimate when in fact they are not.

I note that Amazon.com is listed as an authorized digital reseller for Guild Wars 2, however they not only offer the digital download, but also products offered by retailers. Are these excluded due to Amazon.com only being a digital distributor?
