I too would like to see a better “pure white” dye that goes along better with the celestial hair color. The hair stays nice and white in different lighting situations. The end result though is that the hair makes the outfit look grey.

What to do with gold?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Neural.1824

Neural.1824

If you have a LOT of gold, you probably have enough to start looking at long term investments that require a hefty buy in along with some speculation. Investing, of course, has its risks.
If you have tens of thousands of gold, you can play the market with expensive items, but it is a waiting game. Depends on your patience.
If you have lots and lots of gold, and don’t want to invest any of it, you could start a collection of your own. i.e. collect all skins of a given weapon type. Or collect all the weapons within a certain skin set, etc.
If you have tons of gold and want stuff to spend it on, you’re out of luck if you already have all the legendary weapons you want. You’ve got permanent hairstylist kit, and a few other items, but there aren’t any “big ticket” items (stuff that costs over 10k).

Double clicks requires 2 clicks, so automating this actions in a single button is bannable.

This is where Anet needs to make an exception and openly state it as such (CLEARLY state it).
A “double click” is a single action as far as the OS is concerned. Some people can click twice very fast, others can’t. This is why mouse software often has settings that allow the user to vary the click speed, or assign it to a single key.
Additionally, the issue of Repetitive Strain Injury is very real. There is justification when it comes to multi-key macros that fire off multiple skills in succession etc., but binding double-click to a single key should be an exception, as it is arguably a single function (even though you have to physically click twice to register it).
Again, there are many arguments about this.

I am simply challenging Arenanet to have the intestinal fortitude to step up and say “binding the action ‘double click’ to a single key is acceptable”, but all they want to do, it seems, is be broadly vague about it.

I feel like so many people have been trained to just spit out the same answers that they take as fact, and don’t consider the fact that perhaps the drop system is flawed. Why can’t you even consider that? Do you really think ANet is so incapable of making a flawed system, that you ignore the evidence in front of you?

I’m perfectly willing to consider the possibility that there’s an issue, just as soon as someone meets my impossible standards

Policy: 3rd-Party Programs; Multi-Boxing; Macros

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Neural.1824

Dual- or Multi-Boxing

  1. You may use more than one account at the same time.
  2. You may use more than one computer at the same time.
  3. You must be actively playing on each account.
  4. And as stated above, you may not program your keyboard to perform functions on more than one account at a time.
    a. For example, if you press W on your keyboard to move forward, a single character on a single account should move forward. The keystroke or mouse click should not perform functions on more than one account.

The third one there seems sort of contradictory. You can’t actively play two accounts at the same time, as it would require macros/software that are clearly against the rules. If you could elaborate on what you mean by “actively playting”, it would be appreciated.

edit: Also, is binding “double click” to a single key considered an advantage? Why has Arenanet consistently been so vague on this one issue? I get that creating a thing where bags are opened for you while you are off making coffee is bad. That’s completely understandable, but why can’t Arenanet come out and say “We understand there are a lot of bags to open, here are ways that are acceptable to do so:”? Why can’t they confirm that binding double-click to a single key is or is not considered an “advantage”?
People joke about getting wrist injuries from all the clicking in this game, but at the rate things are currently, it is not a joking matter. Users have been requesting click-fest alternatives for a long time now.

Yes it would BUT if they’d only make the basic one and think they can sell it4 times I’d sey nonononononononononoNONONON NOOOO!

If they’d release it I’d be very content if they’d releas it as a wing set with all 4 colors… for 400 gems… skin exists only needs a turbine sound and it woud be perfect. (maybe a smoke trail from left or right engine when dmg-ed and sparks and a black smoke trail when broken…. would be epic…

Yes, for the standard price of a glider skin, they would need to allow for the color choices (maybe through a dye channel?).
Love the smoke idea for when it’s damaged. That would be nice.

I’d love to see an option to hide the shoulders as well. Keep the same standard for outfits that they do for armor (so if, for example, they add an option in the future to hide armor gloves, they also add the option for outfits).

Unfortunately, seeing as how Anet seems to like to do the minimum required work to get a job done, I’m guessing that most outfits don’t have any material under the shoulder pieces, resulting in them having to spend time fixing every existing outfit (and if you remember the issues with the Monk outfit, it kinda shows how interested Anet is in fixing outfits).

Combat Slow

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Neural.1824

Neural.1824

It’s especially frustrating for rangers because the pet is constantly being aggro-ed by NPC’s and because it tends to lag behind so much becomes an easy target by opponents again causing a disadvantage to escape.

I have no issues playing my ranger. Mobs do not aggro pets unless you tell your pet to attack them. What I mean is a random mob will not just come up and hit your pet, it will hit you. Only once you attack and engage any mob will your pet attack and then it could gain aggro. But again YOU have to attack first.

People claim this happens but I have never seen it, not once and I have played a ranger since the beginning of the game.

>Wiki>Depending on whether the pet is set on aggressive or passive, the pet will attack an enemy if it is attacked, its owner is attacked, or its owner attacks the enemy while aggressive, or only when specifically commanded to attack an enemy while passive.
As soon as your pet responds to an attack on itself it will put you into combat mode.
I’ve playing ranger as my main since beta.

Except that the pet does not draw aggro, you do. A long time ago, pets would draw aggro from mobs they were near, but that was patched out.

If you are getting into combat mode while running around now, what is happening is you are getting aggro on a mob that then chooses to attack your pet because your pet is closer to said mob.

Why remove anything from the Gem Store?

It’s not a byte limit. Some “study” somewhere said that companies can make more money if they force people to only have a small window to purchase. It allows them to gouge the consumer by selling items at greatly inflated prices, as opposed to having to sell the item 24/7 at a reduced rate with trickle in purchases.
Anet is all about RNG and Scarcity. Having things on the gemstore all the time is the opposite of scarcity.

Flute harvesting tools

There is a small variance with the flute harvesting tools compared to other harvesting tools that is rather annoying. I am not sure it’s a bug, but it certainly does not feel as if it is intended.

Example: When harvesting logs with most harvesting tools, you take your axe swings, see loot collected, and can then strafe, or otherwise move before the animation finishes. With the flute, it’s more like you are rooted in place until after the animation finishes. It’s not impossible to break, but it’s just annoying. It’s like the mechanics for breaking out of the animation are different for the flutes than it is for other harvesting tools.

If you guys really want a lower price then you should be campaigning to reduce the price of T3-5 dust. There are millions and millions of lower tier crystals that are flooding the market, but they can’t be upgraded because dust is too expensive.

Instead of asking for flat out price nerfs that will never happen in 1000 years, look for the root causes of the prices, in this case, dust, and ask for the drop rate there to be changed.

Of course the devs already know this, which is why radiant dust has dropped 50% in price the last month since its drop rate was adjusted. Now they just need to add another source and do similar things for T3 and 5 dust.

This is the best suggestion so far.

My bidding nemesis did the same almost immediately.

Now I know when I’m being out bid by using gw2bltc which beeps at me when any of my bids are no longer the leading one and I’ve always assume that or similar websites are the way other players realize they got outbid. None that I know off will notify them that their high bid is now more than one copper higher. I never saw this before.

The speed at which I’ve seen identical items pop up after purchasing one has been within a second. So the bot would need to “ping” the value every half to one second. That’s a lot of requests.

Medium armor, for the most part, seems to be too extreme on both ends.

Either you’re freezing to death with skin exposed everywhere, or you are covered head to toe in leather with a trench coat as an extra added layer of protection.
Again, there are exceptions, but it would be nice to see some new armor sets that are balanced between the two. No trenchcoat, but not lingerie either.
Medium armor needs to be protective, but allow the wearer to be agile and unencumbered by the outfit. Many of the medium boots go against this in appearance (in my opinion). They are good designs, but for medium armor they look clunky and slow.

Looting gems

I was doing a gathering run, and just killing random mobs. Not a boss or world boss event.
I had just finished killing a critter with my pet, while gathering a node with my character.
Among the loot received icons floating down on the right side of my screen, I saw a blue diamond and “303” below it.
I happen to know, for sure, that at that time, I had exactly 303 gems in my account.
No additional gems were given to me, and I didn’t expect them to. As far as I know, gems aren’t ever given as loot, but it struck me as odd that this item showed up at all in the loot list.
Was this something that popped up instead of me receiving something else extremely rare? I don’t know. But something was looted that clearly showed up incorrectly and resulted in a non-loot item. It was more of a reminder that i had 303 gems.

When GW2 has lost its shine...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Neural.1824

Neural.1824

I’ve seen some “i quit” threads, along with other complaining about HoT, and yet others just complaining about the state of PvP, or PvE, or WvW, etc.

One advantage of GW2 is that if you play GW2, it’s either free-to-play, or you’ve already done the paying (no monthly sub).

It is perhaps wise to take advantage of that at times. You can leave the game, and pick it back up later if you choose.

However, I’m not suggesting that people leave the game. I do suggest though, that if GW2 has lost it’s shine, that you try other games for a short bit. Trying other games (most recently B&S), has allowed me to see the places where GW2 still shines. True, it exposes some of the downfalls as well, but when I play other games, I make a mental note each time I find myself thinking “wow, GW2 does this a lot better.” or “They’d have done a better job if they’d coded this similar to GW2” etc.

It’s these little experiences that can, at times, pull me back. Admitedly, I’m in a lull right now with GW2. I’m not finding much to do for various reasons, and I’m a bit fed up with some other things, but playing B&S has shown me some of the mechanics and structure that GW2 has really is better thought out. This adds value to GW2 for me. It creates a small bit of loyalty based on things that make the game stand out.

That, to me, is how you bring the shine back.

The parties in question are satisfied, let it go already

No. This is not about the fact that the OP and Anet are both happy with the outcome of this situation. This is about the fact that Anet first attempted to strip the OP of both gold and items, and hoped he wouldn’t complain about it. It is only because of the uproar on Reddit that Anet was forced to go beyond sending him “We’re right, you’re wrong” e-mails and actually do something to rectify the situation in a manner that is fair to the OP.
This is a serious issue that needs to be resolved on Anets side, and other players, as well as potential players, have a right to know that this sort of unethical practice takes place at Anet.

You’re making the assumption that Anet knew they were wrong the entire time which doesn’t appear to be the case.

I think the problem is that Support made the assumption that they were right the entire time, and failed to actually look at the facts that the OP gave them to show that they were wrong in spite of multiple back and forths on the issue, then Support closed the discussion down.

Probably. The aspect of the poster’s post that I was arguing against is that Anet knew they were wrong the entire time and ignored the OP while knowing that.

Yes. Anet, and anybody with a shred of a concience, knew it was wrong to just pull the gold and not give the OP any items ore compensation. They continued along that path until the OP embarassed them on Reddit, then Chris insulted the OP with his “be happy you got anything back” speech, which simply caused more trouble, until Anet was forced to compensate the OP.
And don’t give me the whole song and dance about how Anet was innocent because they didn’t know the OP wasn’t really the bad guy. They made the assumption that their software is infallible and assumed guilt on the OP’s part. Their attitude towards the OP was just that, “you are guilty, period”. It wasn’t until OP went public that Anet suddenly decided it was in their best interest to double check their omniscience on the case, and even then, they initially responded with a real kitten move by telling the OP he had to just deal with a fraction of what he was owed.

I think part of the point in all the reddit stuff you are missing is that the OP was treated very rudely by support. There exists a clear effort among support to stonewall players with the attitude of “we know everything, and you’re a hacker” that is shoved onto players who file support tickets.
Yes, there are a number of hackers who will write up a sob story to try and get their banned account/confiscated goods back, but this does not justify a blanket policy of treating everyone like a criminal.
Chris Cleary’s attitude of “you’ll take what we give you back, and like it.” was out of line, and goes right along with the type of treatment players get from support via e-mail.
“support” is not doing their job when Anet’s end game is to get away with whatever they can, and that is clearly what happened here. Initially, your company wanted to remove the gold, and just let the OP hang, striped of gold and items. It wasn’t until he went outside the labyrinth of support and posted on Reddit that Arenanet finally decided to do what was right.
That seems to be standard operating procedure though. Do what’s best for the company first, and only do what’s right if the customer complains, eh?

Not sure what it should be replaced with, but I find that, for myself, I am less inclined to play in central Tyria because my XP has no value anymore. Combined with the way the meta works in the new zones, I find myself playing GW2 less and less.
