Jumping Puzzles are fine as is. They would be fine even if the reward was increased. The mechanics have been in game for 4 years. OP simply wants to make the game harder for people for the sake of making it harder, so they can feel some sort of superiority.
Well folks, it’s been 6 months since “we are attempting to remove what we can before the player returns.”
Time to start watching the price on Eggnog, Spiced Apple Cider, and other Festive Imbiber related items.
Might help a bit if this sticky was copy-posted in the general discussion forum area as well. Most people are going there for information on this issue (as is evidenced by the threads that pop up there over and over).
The Lesh Prince recently developed some tech that makes skill-splitting more feasible than it was previously – you’ll see some PvP (and PvE) splits in the next balance update.
Which is great news until:
It’s important to understand that changes will still need to be global, but we’ll definitely have a bit more flexibility moving forward.
Keeping parity between modes when possible is important to us – but when it’s not feasible we’ll look at splits.
edit: that clickbait though
..basically invalidates the whole thing.
So basically next to nothing is going to change, unless this new “flexibility” is a huge amount of flexibility.
PvP and PvE need to be completely disconnected.
I have an idea guys! Let’s have Anet put crafting stations..at the end of jumping puzzles!
It’s all about statistics, and Anet’s ability to say “we have x number of unique ID’s logging in every day!”
OP is freaking out because someone gets a blue piece of armor and a crafting mat without doing a jumping puzzle.
No, they should keep it the way it is.
Luckily I was told about this a few weeks before the patch so I was able to buy a gift before it went live.
I did the WvW track grind for another last weekend, and it took me over 12h (utility primer ran out) I would say probably 15-18 hours in EOTM just following the blob commanders. IDK if that’s the most efficient way or not because I don’t usually WvW.
I will say this though. I had fun.
It’s a game mode I usually don’t participate in because I don’t have to but I got used to it and it ended up being pretty cool and got some spirit shards and champ boxes to boot.
So overall I think it’s a good change. Forces you to move out of your comfort zone and you never know you might end up liking it!
Most people who play this game are adults. We don’t need someone telling us to eat our broccoli because we might like it. And if we have already decided we don’t like WvW then what? Do it anyway or no Gift for you.
Doing things I don’t like is exactly why I play games… /sarcasm off
Except in this case, a lot of people have already eaten their vegetables, and now mom is sayin “that didn’t count, you have to eat more now.”
They stashed the announcement away with a small blurb in a gigantic patch note several months ago.
Just like they are stashing away any threads about it into a forum that few people whom it affects will ever visit. Just like they’ll do with this thread.
It provides immersion because in real life you couldn’t instantly craft 900 bolts of silk.
That only holds true for some items. Look at how fast dowels (which happen to be almost worthless in some cases) are crafted.
Well, obviously Anet isn’t going to do anything about it. The threads have been merged and buried. Thx Anet.
It is usable everywhere with exception of raids and the aerodrome golem.
Cant be used on combat.
30 Minutes cooldown currently.
I did not test, but you probaly cant use on WvW since you cant use any bundles on WvW
BTW no one brings mesmer only because of portal….. (anymore)
And again, people do infact grab mesmers for portals in learning runs/speed clears, and most importantly HoT HP runs.
So yes, people do still grab mesmers for portals. Just had someone ask in chat last week for mesmers for a HoT run because the newer folks didn’t have gliding. Just because your select group doesn’t see the need doesn’t mean “no one” takes mesmers any more for portals.
Lots of people use portals for various reasons. Ignore him.
The biggest problem I see with this change is two fold:
1) Poor communication resulting in 2) people feeling that their earned badges of honor are useless now, even though they went through the effort to get them.
I don’t mind it being on a reward track, what I do mind is that Anet “fixed something that wasn’t broken” and in the process invalidated a bunch of effort put in by people who would rather be doing things other than PvP (which is what WvW is, it just has some PvE thrown in to annoy people).
Someone at Arenanet is convinced that if you just force people to do something, they will like it.
Would be nice if Anet took it seriously. He’s probably been reported a multitude of times, but he’s there every day doing the same thing over and over.
I try to keep up with patch notes, but missed this (and a couple others) in the wall of text that came with that particular patch.
This is going to cause trouble fro WvW with people going AFK etc. to get the gift without having to deal with all the lovely things that go along with the WvW community.
As one person previously mentioned, this wouldn’t be so bad if WvW was actually fun, but it’s not.
I’d like to see the vendor back for a week. I won’t play WvW any less or more than I currently do, but I know several people in my guild, who also missed the patch note, that will want to take advantage of it.
I’d like them to add an XP Reward track for those of us who are at cap.
As silly as it sounds, I do believe that the armor should go with the “six or none” theme. If the char anatomy is anything like feline anatomy, then ..it resolves itself.
If Anet ends up insisting that we go the two breasted route for female Charr and Asura, then I want “anthro” choices for humans. Cat ears, cat tails, etc.
In the meantime, I can’t help but think that in-game reports are good. They usually are easy to make and in most cases they do the trick.
This is not true. If it is so burdensome for your game team to have tickets with more than a couple marks for type, maybe they should at least add the options on the player side.
Example: Reporting a name/guild-tag combination that is offensive. There is no option for that, and using “inappropriate character name” does nothing to indicate that anyone at Anet will so much as raise a pinky finger to look any further than at the characters name.
Sometimes it’s the perceived value that is the best for the players. I’m shocked that Anet can’t see it when it comes to something this basic. They sure do work perceived value over and over when it comes to loot, etc.
I don’t understand this forum at all. When they nerfed Chest farming by ~40%, no one batted an eye. They trim one reward off a single event, and people flip out.
SW events/meta is fun to do.
Chest farming isn’t fun to do.
Nerfing SW, which doesn’t need a nerf anymore after the HoT map reward buffs which made them all as rewarding kitten doesn’t make any sense. What makes even less sense is nerfing SW NOW when AB is being multi-looted and didn’t get nerfed. Everyone is doing AB now, why would you nerf SW when it’s not even the best gold/hour or an exploit or anything? SW didn’t need any changes.
I’m baffled.
I’m thinking it has to do with making AB the best loot spot. Because people who were farming SW that don’t have HoT will now need to buy HoT if they want the best loot. It’s a stretch, but I wouldn’t put it past Anet. They are acting rather desperate as of late.
shady practices like this alienate your customers more than anything.
The only customers they care about are the 1% who spend thousands of dollars RL to “play” this game. The rest of us are just numbers to them.
Chiming in here. I don’t mind you guys selling skins on the gem store- I’d prefer more armor and fewer outfits, but that’s a different matter entirely- but the RNG involved is a step too far. You’re forcing anyone who wants one of these skins to gamble, either with tons of gold or notable amounts of real money. It’s the rare moment most people would be better off playing the -actual- lottery.
The blatant use of gambling by game companies as a means of getting income has gotten to the point where perhaps it is time for governments to step in and regulate it, just like they have done with online Casinos.
Heck, with real casinos, at least you have a chance of getting real cash back. With game companies, the house keeps 100%
Reading this thread, we understand your questions and want to share a little information: This set is designed to be a special, exclusive set and therefore it’s a little different than most. There are a couple of other interesting factors that you’ll want to know: The set is available for one ticket. It will remain priced at one ticket into the future, so someone who wants it now doesn’t need to be concerned about it becoming unavailable or about it rising in price in the future. Other sets currently available are not account bound, such as the Cavalier Weapon Set which was recently released at a price of 1 Black Lion Claim Ticket and remains at that price now. In addition, we do intend to continue to offer tradeable sets in the future. If you’d like a preview of the new set, go to your bank wardrobe and filter for “Privateer.” We hope this answers your questions, and thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Oh please .. we are not dumb sarah. The weapon is not special at all, it looks like a rushed job designed for testing the players respons to this kind of sale.
It’s amazing isn’kitten They really do think we’re stupid cattle with bank accounts they can just reach into and raid whenever they please.
ANet, this set would feel special to me if it were tradeable AND remain always available at 1 ticket. It would mean that the skins would be reasonably obtainable on the TP and the BLWS simultaneously/consistently… and that would definitely be a special set.
As it stands I do want it… all of it… but I doubt I’ll pursue it. I’d need to approach it from both means as I listed above in order to feel the price is worthwhile for the effort to obtain any more than a couple of the skins.

It’s not about feeling “special” to the player, it’s about feeling “special” to Anet’s bank account.

Why is the set special? Why would we think it’s anything but you testing the waters on how much you can screw over customer before there’s backlash?
Yeah somehow I have a feeling that next set will be special too.. :P
It’s the new excuse for money grabs “this item is ‘special’”

This sounds like a hastily made up “reason” designed only to quell the growing base of angry customers.
Why is it so special? Do please elaborate.
I thought they’d learned better than this. Clearly, I was mistaken.
All the more reason to assume the next expansion is going to be full of the same problems as HoT.
This is very concerning as well. It’s obvious that they are incapable of learning from their mistakes.
I suppose this will be the next thing. They’ll re-release skins like the fused skins, but they’ll be “special” account bound ones.
Starting to see where Mike intends to take the company.
The drop rate is stupid. If the OP harvested over 500 corals, they should have gotten the required amount. The very idea that a player needs to have multiple characters parked or ready to harvest a single item is pathetic. I am not one of them, but there are people in game who like to play on just one character. Forcing them to create alts is just more typical Anet “content extension” and gem store sales psychology.
No one forced them to use alts. They OPTED to use alts in order to speed up a process that is INTENDED to be long.
You have the option to pay for convenience. No one is forcing you to do it.
Keep making excuses for them. You have no proof that this specific item was intended to be some convoluted stupidly long process. Stop making things up.
This is over the top and just plain stupid. Are you SO desperate for key sales, Anet? I guess so.

I suspect the fact that this has been left as is for so long is a solid indication of how much Anet cares about it.
Asurans are the smart ones in the bunch of us. They have waypoints, Super Adventure Box, golems, etc.
It would be ….convenient…if an asura were to “invent” a portal to a place (instanced for individuals or squads) that was loaded with asura tech, and just happened to have an area in it that was completely chroma green and well lit in the same manner that the hero panel and preview window are.
Not that the devs have time for it. Just considering how it could be done if they did. Would make it nice for a number of screen shot reasons.
You can report the person. If Anet sees this individual repeatedly doing this, they may take action.
On the flip side, people really do need to get out of this fantasy that we’re all just here to have fun. That may have worked a decade ago, but not anymore. You can thank Eve Online for that.
How often is the API data updated with information from the Trading post (such as price or quantity)?
I’d like to use a refresh on a page, but would rather not set the timer for anything less than necessary.
Go back to Eve Online. Or could you not cut it there so now you have to try and poison a good game with your play style?
Hey, I thought it was cute and adorable and I am not a dude. Women are allowed to be sexy and kinda silly at the same time.
Not at Arenanet. All the women have to be “strong” and “equal”.
Do they actually give you something useful or just more useless Tyrian mastery exp?
Nope. Just your usual junk loot with a champ box that holds likely more junk loot.
The least Anet could do would be make the experience books an item that can be used in the future. These events are pretty much pointless if you’ve maxed out masteries.
Why would wind riders carry recipes for their own destruction…? Rather risky of them.
Why do Mosquitoes carry rifles?
Excellent idea. Would be simple to implement and provide a small bit more variety.
Thumbs down on this un-needed change. More dev time wasted on something that was fine just as it was.
Do you actually own a HoT legendary? I hope you do, because otherwise it’d be like a pvp player complaining about time being spent on pve content.
I for one would appreciate a longer and more noticeable footstep or aura, right now the weapons don’t feel that legendary when you see them.
Did you even read what I said in the context of the rest of the thread? No.
Time was wasted changing the duration of the footprints when it should have been set up the way it has been for all the footprints for the past few years. New or Old, having super short duration makes it almost pointless to even have them in the first place.

The only reason people represent a guild is because the guild has a social environment that makes them want to represent the guild.
As a guild leader, it’s your responsibility to cultivate that environment through rules and limitations that create a space where people want to gather.
For example, if your main chat is a free-for-all that is often toxic, political (but I repeat myself), or polarizing, odds are you are going to wind up with people who rep other guilds unless they feel like getting into an online **** size contest.
Creating limits (such as a “no politics” rule), and then enforcing them, helps create a place where people can gather and not feel like it’s going to be an argument every time.
I’m sure there are guilds who will claim that they allow their members to talk about politics and everybody is just one big happy family. That’s fine. There are always exceptions. There are people who get precursors for drops too.
Bottom line, if people aren’t repping your guild, there’s a reason for it, and it’s up to the leader(s) to fix it, not the members. Requiring representation is a turn off for many.
Also, if your guild is thriving, and you see people who are constantly not repping. Boot them kindly. Kick them from the guild, send them a mail saying something to the effect of “Just doing maintenance of guild membership to trim people who don’t ever rep. Nothing personal, we’ve sent you an invite in case you want to be part of the guild still.” and let it go from there. If they really want to be part of your guild, they’ll accept the invite.
Oh look, another anti-portal thread.
Are you seriously that bent over someone getting a blue or a green because a third party stepped up and chose to help them?
Maybe this game is not for you.
You know, I actually ENJOY taking my mesmer to the end of a puzzle and helping people get through it. Daily JPs just give me more chances to do that.
Don’t take my ability to help people away, it’s the best part of playing a mesmer for me.
It is the very reason I created a Mesmer in the first place. To help people with difficult jumps (puzzles or not). Given, the character has grown into a lot more than that now, and is my primary WvW character, but the primary purpose hasn’t changed. OP and many others want this to be removed from the game.
While I think AFK farming is an issue in some ways, I have to ask those complaining about it: If AFK farming is sooo bad because people are not at their keyboards while still gaining loot in GW2, are you also going to demand that all buy/sell orders on the TP go inactive when a person logs off for the night?
Good grief OP. You get what from a Jumping Puzzle. A blue and a green plus some empyreal fragments usually? And you’re throwing a fit over that? Are you *that bad at the game that you have to complain about someone else getting more garbage loot than you do because another player was kind enough to offer a port?
I don’t know if I can believe that picture. You have less than a gold and everyone knows that the people who are doing the AB chest opening thing have at least a thousand gold.
Only the noobs. I saw one guy that had at least 80,000g from AB farming.
