I am not going to purchase any armor/weapon skins of any type (gem store, cultural, etc.) until Arenanet answers for this change.
This is no different than going to buy a car that has various features, then half a year later the dealer comes by an removes the GPS without stating why.
If they think they can get away with modifying one set of armor like this, they will continue to do the same, no matter how much people paid for it. It doesn’t matter if it’s karma, gems, or whatever, players put their time and effort into obtaining these items and chose said items based on their appearance. If Arenanet is going to just up and redesign armor sets on a whim, then maybe players shouldn’t be investing in them.
I was just running around in Frostgorge, and came across an Orichalcum node. So, I ran up to it, and before harvesting I decided it would be prudent to check the harvest tool type I was using, so I hit “H” to open the hero panel. As expected, it opened, but my character also started harvesting the node, which resulted in ruined ore.
Really tired of all these little “bugs” that just so happen to result in a player having lower income.
No. You can play this game any way you want, as long as it is the way they tell you.
Well, on the bright side, my ranger is 400 in jewelry, can always make stuff for my other characters.
I agree with the others on the whole black lion chest “rare drops”. They seem to like this type of money sink. Perhaps they need to change the name to Guild Wars Las Vegas.
Not going to drop a dime on that (be it gold/karma/laurel/gem/next-new-currency). Seems Anet can’t leave anything as is.
Here we go again with the “because it’s broken in PvP we must nerf it in PvE”…
I thought PvP was clearly separated from PvE…
This 100%
The quote provided by the OP could be summarized as:
“We found a problem with PvP that needed be resolved, and then scrambled to come up with a reason it was a problem in PvE as well.”
I completely agree with fixing something like that in PvP, but it’s starting to feel like Anet has given up on PvE all together.
Actually, that’s wrong. The gold=>gem price is decided by the players themselves.
I disagree there. The gold to gem price is only decided by a players within a tolerance defined by Arenanet. Be they benevolent or maleficent, Arenanet holds the keys and they have investors to please.
Arenanet will always nerf ways to make gold. The reason why is because they want you to buy gems. If I was working at arenanet I would design things for people to buy in the gem store. You’d think this would be common sense but; apparently for them it’s not.
Arenanet is obsessed with the gem store to an degree that is killing the game. Many things like self-style hair kits and other cosmetic items would sell a lot more frequently if they’d halve the price, but they obviously have some kitten for brains statistician who has never once touched a game like this applying real world purchasing habits of people to a virtual environment.
I’m beginning to think that their business plan is to “grab all you can, then shut down”, just like NCSoft did with City of Heroes when they made it f2p.
That’s a pretty harsh attitude to take, especially when you can buy everything in the gem shop without spending a single dime of real money. Plenty of people buy things from the gem shop. Apparently they are happy with the costs and are getting the revenue they want.
Also GW2 is B2P, not F2P. Cash shop is an additional revenue source on top of the box sales. In a F2P game it is the only source of income, meaning a much greater emphasis.
There’s no difference between GW2 and a F2P beyond the initial fee, and if everyone in the game was using gold to buy gems, Arenanets financial model would fail. As has been said before, they will nerf anything that becomes a significant gold income source for players. In the end, it’s no different from a subscription game, because on the financial back end, they are trying to push people to pay a given amount of real money per month (probably about $15 I would guess).
I consider it a realistic attitude. Arenanet released the game before it was ready, which is very likely due to executives promising profits far sooner than coders/artists could physically deliver. The result is a partially finished F2P game that has an upfront cost.

+1 Great idea. Downside might be that once you have a set path/method for something, the 80hr a week crowd will blitz it til the market is flooded with precursors.
:hands Wendy an asbestos fire suit:
I’m fairly certain the actual rate is the same and the ‘fluctuations’ are just RNG screwing with you all
While I agree with this, it has also been my experience that I get more dye loot between levels 1 and 20 than further on (I’ve got 3 characters at 80, 1 at 32, and I’ve leveled 8 or so from 1 to about 18 as I tried various class and race types). This has been since October when I started. Again, maybe it is RNG, but it has happened enough to make me wonder if level is a factor in the calculations.
Thank you.
Glad to know about the steal list too. Very useful.
I’m having some trouble with the standard lvl 79 Ice Wurms in Frostgorge. It’s not that they are taking a lot of my health, I do just fine there, but I am positive I can reduce my incoming damage more than I currently do.
Looking at the wiki, http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Ice_Wurm , it shows the mobs attacks as “Bites, Freezes”. They also “steal” “ice shard stab, throw gunk”. This does not seem to account for the large boulders they throw, or the underground burrowing they do which appears to cast “unsteady ground”.
Is there a more extensive list of what skills they use? Is there a way to dodge the unsteady ground and still get close enough to hit the wurm (using a GS warrior)?
So many negative posts I see on these forums are from people trying to play an MMORPG as a single player RPG. The whole magic of an MMO is doing it with friends, trust me if you have a group of people who want to do content it makes it better all around. If you are having problems with the basics of this game find a guild, interact, enjoy. That is what it is all about.
Just sayin.
Are you a Sociologist? Psychologist? Psychiatrist? Any number of other given professions who are educated and qualified to make an assessment of why lone individuals may find a social connection to the people around them without being forced to interact with them?
Never mind that MMO’s bring some people out of their shells and actually get them to start interacting with people. Never mind that the gaming industry is currently focused on MMO’s, and as such the bulk of these types of games are not solo-RPG.
I’ve seen various guild sizes in different games. I have yet to come across one that wasn’t occupied for a good portion of the day with people just like you who are convinced that anyone who doesn’t want to play your way is somehow mentally challenged.
I’m used to Anet nerfing things to try and get players to buy more from the gem store, but this is just a step too far.
I suppose the option there is to just stow them.
Until you take 1 point of fall damage for nudging a pebble and out the pet goes again!
Damage? Half the time I feel like they un-stow when an NPC greets you.
Pet’s attack range is nice, but it would be nice to have a “heel” option, to where they are leashed to you with a max distance of around 1 or 2 meters, but I suppose the option there is to just stow them.
Fishing: No, fishing in all games are boring. It will be boring for GW2.
Have you played Rift?
Last I played (October of last year), fishing was still very popular, especially in the low level areas on both the Guardian and Defiant sides. At first it was a flood of 30+ people at the easy to access fishing areas, but after many people leveled and moved on, it still stayed popular as a social event. People started skipping nearby rifts because they were too busy fishing and chatting.
Doesn’t mean it would fly in GW2, because implementation is a big part of it, but not everyone finds it boring, and just because it is in a game, doesn’t automatically mean it is boring.
Would be nice to see the ore node models increased to be roughly the size of iron nodes. The platinum and silver nodes don’t make sense in that if size were to indicate value or such, Orichalcum would be the smallest nodes of all.
Additionally the Cypress Saplings and some other trees would be better if they were a little more substantial. Right now if you are a Norn warrior, it feels like one blow of an axe would destroy a Sapling to the point of getting no useful material out of it.
Of all the trees, only the Ancient Orrian one seems to be somewhat realistic in size.
I’d like to be able to craft town clothing.
+1 for detail coloring on weapons. Even if it’s just exotics and legendary weapons. Seems somewhat odd that we can color our armor, but not our weapons.
I find it interesting that Anet feels it’s ok to tell people that one of their users is already using a given password.
you don’t you bind a button to dodge (default is V) and then move in the direction you want to dodge and then press that button.
ah. Will try that. Thank you.
edit that will work really well. thank you
How do you bind a dodge in a set direction? Just make the keybind DD or AA? Or does that depend on the software for a given mouse? I’d love to turn off double-tap-to-evade permanently
edit blah, may be time for a new mouse. Logitech doesn’t allow you to customize keystrokes beyond adding a ctrl/alt/shift to a combo. can’t do AA or DD, etc.

Yeah, those stupid online games that force you to do group content (dungeons) with groups.
Yeah, because people who prefer to play solo should be limited to the low budget crap solo games while the “internet kittenes” like you get the full buffet of an industry that knows where the most money comes from.
In attempting to learn more about dodging, I discovered the V keybind. I’ve been using doubletap all this time, however I always have gone to the left or right when dodging.
Does dodging backwards work for evading attacks which are projected forward from the mob?
An example would be the boars that rush at you. Dodging backwards still has you directly in their path of motion.
Does a dodge in any direction break/evade the attack?
Just have them up and die, and leave their minimally clothed body on the ground for a few days with he floating text “banned” above it. First person to find the body gets the loot from the inventory.
After some discussion with a couple very decent folks, it would seem that I am not alone, and that it may not be just a skill issue. At least I have some goals to shoot for now. Glad I’m not the only one in this boat.
And if you have the thick enough skin to actually admit it…
Speak up.
I’m not talking about poor social ability, or personality issues. I’m talking about simply being the bottom end of the “gamer” list.
For myself, I feel often that I’m the bookend on that list. I don’t solo veterans very well, I have difficulty surviving even in groups, and I find level 1 Fractals to be next to impossible to contribute to (in reality, the four friends I run with can finish them on their own, I’m just cannon fodder).
One of the reasons I came to GW2 was the rumors I heard about it being more casual friendly, and I think that overall it is. I’ve enjoyed it a lot more than I have any other MMO (otherwise I wouldn’t be around, because I believe Anet is obsessed with forcing people to the gem store).
Still, no matter how casual, it still is somewhat depressing when all I hear in regards to dungeons and fractals is how “easy” they are.
Does anyone else look at dungeons/fractals and boggle at how “easy” can be used to define them?
I like the OP’s idea. There are a number of events that I can think of which are “always on”. The Blood Witkittenessex Hills comes to mind. I’ve been playing since last October and I think of all the times I’ve been by there, there has been once that I saw people fighting that one. Don’t know if it’s too hard or to little reward, just something I see when I’m headed through there once in a while. Though it could be a spawn timer issue as well. Not sure, but I think many people see events in different zones that never seem to get completed.
The idea of the opposite of diminishing returns is great, but it would need a good implementation in order to minimize people screaming in map kitten“NO! Don’t do that event yet!!”
I think for me it was a situation that was so over the top that all we could do is laugh.
To preface this, please note that not everyone is a zomglighthousebbq game god that can solo level 9001 fractals like 95% of the people seem to be able to.
We had been trying to finish a fractal for quite some time, something like 45minutes to an hour, with a fair share of party wipes and lots of frustration. We finally got to the final champion and started plinking away at him.
His health was only 25% left, we were winning!
“A new build is available, your game will restart in 1minute”
Moa bird attack
@OP
There are 2 types of exploration completion in the game
One is called the Bluestone achievement, which appears you have done. This involves discovering all the white labeled areas on all the maps in all the regions.
The other is completing all hearts, skill points, discovering all vistas, poi’s, wp’s in both PvE and WvW maps. This gives you two gifts of exploration. Seems you are missing 6 poi’s for this.
You need to carefully compare each of your maps with an image of completed map. Some poi’s can be accessed only through events that allow you into certain places. The Chantry of Secrets in Bloodtide is a commonly missed poi ..
Good luck!
Does the full world completion include the dungeons also?
An “April Fools” curse will fall upon the players, making no loot at all drop until you obtain a curse removal potion (which of course will be for sale in the gem store for 3000gems)
I see no reason to go for a legendary.
Any crafting that involves an insane amount of “luck” in order to get the right piece is simply not crafting in my opinion.
I’m not saying it should be easy to get a legendary, but the current path to do so has some issues that I’m not going to bother with.
Primarily I’m not into grinding just to gamble away my gold in hopes that I get a crafting piece.
When I get something like a legendary, I want to feel like I spent the time to craft the whole thing, not like I got “lucky”. To me getting an item based on random chance is no different than just grinding gold and buying the thing outright. To me it’s pointless.
I’ll save my mats to sell for gold to purchase other things like overpriced cultural armor and such.
That is indeed correct. You will get one guaranteed rare drop per boss per account per day.
This is my biggest concern about this entire change. Anyone want to give odds on Anet managing to apply this to rares in general? (only one per day per account, in any method of obtaining loot)
Why, if said ring is “unique” to a character, does the system allow you to wear two of them (not at once, but in succession)? If you already have a “unique” item that is soulbound, you shouldn’t be able to equip another one. Just like you can’t equip one if it’s souldbound to another character on your account and you trade it via the bank.
Its funny how the krait event at tequatl spawn is more challenging than killing tequatl. Shows some good judgement..not :p
This.
Whether or not the Krait problem is a real issue or a l2play issue, the above statement is painfully accurate. While I enjoy GW2 a lot, it has always seemed bizarre to me that the “big boss” events were so simple compared to a solid champion fight.
It’s like the loot from Teq and others is a reward for not falling asleep during the battle.
If we got loot according to fight intensity and required skill/game-knowledge, the boss fights would probably not break the top ten.
I used to hate underwater combat, then I started using the right weapons for my character’s class. This highlights a possible balance issue, in that some of the ranged underwater weapons are not so spectacular.
All that aside, with a little polish to the weapon balance, an entire underwater zone would be interesting, but I wouldn’t want to see it put in place until it was a real gem. The art teams have done a lot of great work with various zones, but some of the underwater areas are definitely the top of my list for the eye-candy factor. I’d expect an entire zone to be knock-out beautiful.
I am in favor of randomizing the timers, but doing so presents some issues that would need to be resolved at the same time. If the events were random, you still need to have a way for people to know when they are actually happening, otherwise the 4 or 5 people lucky enough to be there when it started would be selecting waypoints with armor repair services in no time. In order to keep this from happening, you need some way in which people can communicate outside their current zone, such as a world/server-chat channel. Alternatively there would need to be some sort of event announcement channel that people could choose to have display in chat or not.
I haven’t had time to sit down and watch the entire video yet. Are they essentially going to nerf AoE in general without any consideration for the effects it might have on PvE?
The 1 shot kills are more annoying than lag and getting dc’d. Even if you are with a group, if the mob fires off it’s super-power, someone is going to get a repair bill if their friends aren’t fast enough on the revive.
Personally I think it’s just one more tactic Anet uses to get people to spend coin and buy more gems for gold.
Don’t forget you can target, in some cases, the edge of your own wall, and half the projectiles will be over the enemy’s heads. The limitation there is that you can’t target right at your feet.
Watching friends chop down trees with a mining pick.
I see an easily noticeable difference in the number of blue/green name items I get when I run full MF. Usually only see rare items from loot chests, but I do think that with MF gear I’ve received a few more rare items, I just haven’t tested things long enough to say for sure.
To this day though, haven’t found an exotic weapon/armor piece.
Yes please! alphabetical or at the least category would be much appreciated.
It’s like the chef profession has it’s own little Mystic Toilet built in.
Once a character hits 30-40 for the personal story, the motto becomes “Undeads R Us.” From this level and up all the mobs are undeads. I know it has to do with the story and all, but it has become so monotonous. I did all the personal story quests with my first L80 character, but that ended the storyline questing for the other characters. I just can’t bring myself to go through tons of undeads again. Anyone else feel the same way?
Actually, while I enjoy GW2 and will continue to play, I am disappointed that so many MMO’s in general these days seem to have run out of ideas for the end game bad guy types.
I think that’s why I like Sea of Sorrows so much. Many of the creatures are not of any undead variety (i.e. Karkas).
