Hey everyone, thanks for flagging. The team is aware of this issue and working on a fix, but it probably won’t happen today. Sorry for the inconvenience.
This seems to be quite a common thing. Players get shafted by a bug and Anets response is “oops, we’ll work on it. We’re sorry”.
Where the “sorry” part essentially translates to “too bad for you”.
Let me just ask this. Kamra spender is small time, to be sure, but if some bug pops up and people start losing their legendary components in the mystic forge and getting no legendary weapons for it all, is this going to be the answer?
Paying to retrait costs like 3 silver. Suck it up.

Made this up in about 30 seconds. Run primarily with Knights gear and splash in some Zerkers gear. You should be able to get your crit up to around 80-90% with fury, and Zerk gear will give you about 50% crit damage bonus. The toughness from Knights will help you facetank PvE better. Against bosses, swap your hammer for rifle.
I was told the trait costs increase with each use. I thought it kicked up to over a gold eventually?
This is Candi, she’s a sweetheart with a hammer…
Hi, I really like your armor! Can you tell me what it all is?
It’s the “Barbaric” set. Just look in the trading post for “barbaric”. There are green (masterwork) items available with it, so if you just need to reskin stuff it shouldn’t cost too much.
I think the underlying issue with this is that Arenanet is suffering from some sort of internal disorganization or differences of thought on how to deal with these things. There is no consistency with any of the Living Story items in areas where they should be consistent.
The Living Story has also broken consistency in critical game mechanics as well. After the past month or so, rares and exotics have lost their allure, not because they aren’t worth anything, but because we get deluged with yellow and orange named items constantly now.
Sure, it’s still special to get an exotic drop, but Anet has moved beyond leaving them as special, and now floods the generic loot tables with exotic level items. My guess is that now Arenanet can legally claim that there is a substantial increase in rare and exotic drops, without actually increasing rare and exotic drops.
What is the middle of the road for warriors? What’s got enough tank to hold aggro a little bit in dungeons, but has enough dps to solo in Orr?
I’m looking for information to cover basically the following:
I’m open to two full armor sets, so the runes don’t even have to be the same.
I’d prefer not to have to pay for a full re-work of my traits, but I’m completely open to working within the trait lines (switching major traits for one or the other).
Most difficult restriction: I prefer to swap between hammer and GS, but I carry a rifle with me at all times.
Am I after the impossible?
This is Candi, she’s a sweetheart with a hammer…
To be honest, I couldn’t agree more. Pets are a hindrance, no matter how you beat around the bush.
They die faster than you can pick your nose, and calling them back is useless when you’re ALREADY in melee.
Their F2 skills take too long (and have huge kitten CDs) and have minimal effects.
Pets die too fast.
Pets don’t scale with your gear.
Pets are dead most of the time.
The pet swap cooldown is way too long.
Pets need more survivability.
The “attack my target” feature is often useless.I know this is related to the new LS, but you can’t tell me those still don’t apply here.
I only play my ranger because it’s… visually appealing (IYKWIM), but I’m tempted to just delete it because I’ve given up hope on having it balanced.
Even though I am not happy with the way rangers are currently, I have to disagree in regards to the damage issue, somewhat.
While it is anything but foolproof, I use Orr as a test bed whenever I make changes.
Currently my ranger is pow/pre/crit (5 of 6 are rare, only 1 exotic), with 6 Superior Rune of the Ranger. I generally cruise with a pow/prec/mf exotic longbow, and I use birds (raven/snow-owl) as pets. I also use imob/cripple traps.
With my current setup, there aren’t very many standard mobs (risen nobles excepted) that can get within melee range long enough to hit me. The exception there is when the mobs magically ignore knockback and just instantly are back where they started (a known bug). Even with Risen Nobles before the lowering of the damage their marks do, I was able to keep them back long enough to take them out.
The point? My point is that during my time in playing around with this, I have enough time to pay attention to how my pet is acting, and I’ve found that birds, at least, do some substantial damage. Without the right kind of pet, I’d need to swap to my melee weapon probably 80% of the time, even though it would be for only a couple seconds, but even with full aggro on me, as often happens, the birds are helping a LOT with dps.
This is part of my complaint about their lack of defense. I’ve tried various pets for boss fights, but for me it’s come down to which pet will hold aggro the longest in order for others to be mobile with their attacks.
Soon as the boss one-shots “PET DOWN!” and it’s time to hit F4 and hope I’ve not done so in the previous half minute.
Using a heavy defense pet takes away from the dps, which is an understandable exchange, but if you see me using a bird in a boss fight, it’s because I figure to get as much damage in before they get one-shotted like the rest.
As for cooldowns, the attacks (F2) need to be shorter recharge and much faster on action.
The swap cooldown could stay the same if the pets were made more survivable.
Personally, I’d like to see a trait-line specifically for pets (part of the pet window), and the ability to specialize in specific pet types (for me, I’d specialize in birds). This would add advantage in many locations, but would allow Anet to also create dungeon bosses that are a bane to certain pet types, thus forcing the ranger to make some decisions on what to use, and what to specialize in, just like some bosses are better fought with ranged, vs. melee.
They’ve stated you might need to change your build within your class
Translation: pay money to do content.
AN only knows two answers to the question of “How do we make X challenging?”
1. It’s going to one-shot you.
2. It’s a jumping puzzle.
This does about sum things up.
I’ve gotten to the point where I simply ignore my pet when fighting champions. Two one-shot-gimmicks and the pets are down long enough that I have better things to concentrate on than their cool-down timer. Especially since I’m now fighting with a chunk of my dps missing.
I love the ranger/pet combo as a game character, but the fighting gimmicks *cough*er.. I mean “challenges” pretty much negate the use of a pet.
Pets are great for 1v1, or even 1v3 or so, so long as you are up against standard mobs and maybe a vet or two. They divide aggro, and last long enough that you can just pull your other pet out when needed, but since pets aren’t smart enough to dodge one-shotting attacks, it’s pointless to focus on what they are doing in a boss fight.
LOL @ the “Club Dwayna” title.
Hopefully they fix this issue. I can see how that would be really annoying.
This game is chock full of used-car-salesman-gimmick type immature tricks. All in the name of the gold sink called “repairs”. The only “fun” and “challenge” was for the Devs to see how many times they could get away with killing players before the players would give up.
yea this is another slap from Anet we get punished for participating in the event. Should have been other way around buttons should sell and peeps that just dident vote should get 0.
Not really surprising though. This is becoming the standard for Anet
Well, to close this thread up, I decided to buy Celestial. I’d have to say that I would better have spent the gold on icy runestones or exotics for the mystic forge.
The attached image is a composit. In one I’m wearing white, in the other I’m wearing celestial. good luck figuring it out. I can’t really complain, I’ve come to expect this sort of rip-off from Anet.
Apparently there was a livestream set for noon PDT today. Apparently the announcement was plastered all over GW2 Facebook and Twitter. Can the people who don’t give in to social media sites start getting some news maybe on these forums? You know, the official game forums? Or maybe even on the launcher?
That’d be great. Thanks.
The launcher would be a fantastic place to put announcements and information about upcoming changes and events to the game, but you have to understand, it’s not “popular”.
This game better not go F2P… Why do you care about their revenue? As players all we should care about is the content
Imagine all the crazies that would flood this game if it was F2P… Sweet Jesus
well, what kind of craziness would bother you from an increase in playerbase?
For starters, trolls who deliberately start controversial threads because they get their jollies from conflict and argument.
This exact thread exists on every single non f2p MMO forum in existence, and generally pops up within the first week.
Nice try.
stuff
Yes I love gathering materials for stuff too, but you didn’t gather the minerals for a titan on your own. I built my first myrmidon from scratch, it was great.
I’ve farmed up half my exotics (and all my deadspace fit), I didn’t farm up a legendary (and I bought the parts for my proteus). Do you see what I mean?
I would call anyone that tried to build a capital solo insane :P
If you want, I can send you the spreadsheet for the Rorqual I built :P
I don’t recall this happening in the past, but maybe now it’s just gotten so irritating that I’ve finally noticed it, I’m not sure, but when using Point Blank Shot, a good portion of the time now, mobs of any type that are knocked back, automatically snap back to their previous position as soon as the knockback animation ends. This negates any effect of the skill as they can continue to attack as if no interrupt had happened.
Also you don’t just get the mats, you get gold from anything you looted that wasn’t the mats, which you can use to buy more mats.
If you want to grind every last little piece you’re insane.
In other games you couldn’t get a legendary solo either.
Then perhaps I am insane.
While I found gearing-up in Rift and Vanguard to be easier due to quest rewards being relevant to character class, level, and so on, I have always been a crafting person.
In Vanguard, I got my armor from quests or trading, but I made all my weapons from scratch (save for the materials you needed to craft with that you had to buy, kinda like you can’t find lumps of coal in GW2).
In Rift, having multiple characters, I have each of them leveled in their professions to match the levels I require to make armor and weapons for any of them that need it, and I gather the materials for it.
In Eve, I’ve mined the materials for a few hundred ships ranging from frigates to battleships, along with 2 Orcas, 2 freighters, and a Rorqual. With the exception of Megacyte and Zydrine which can only be found in decent quantity outside of high/low-sec areas, everything else was mined.
So maybe I am insane, but that is where I find enjoyment in games. For me, it’s all about the challenge of facing an open world to obtain the resources needed to create/build an objective. I think the only time I’ve ever really deviated from that was in Rift when I ran dailies and various quests in order to get a Nebula mount.
Last year I read about GW2 and the way crafting was done here. I read about nodes not being first-come-first-harvest like many other games. I dropped $50 or whatever it was, and for a few weeks was very happy with the way the game was going. Then the nerfing started. All in the name of stopping bots and gold sellers. GW2 quickly became a typical grinder game in that respect. Now, instead of “just playing” when I log in, I farm/grind for mats for half an hour, then do something else once I notice I’m being punished for playing my way.
Am I burned out? No. Far from it, but I am burned in general. Arenanet has some clinically obsessed person running their monetization group, and everything in the game is tailored to gem store sales. This is compounded by the incredibly not large selection of items to be purchased there. The only other game I’ve played that had such a tiny store was Eve, and that’s because they listen to their players and the players did not want a store. To their credit, Arenanet does appear to be making an effort to expand the gem-store item availability, at least for armor skins, but they needed to hit the market on opening day with a lot more than they have now. Still, this doesn’t take away from the overall feeling that the mentality behind the gem store is that people can be forced to spend money, where-as other games run on the philosophy of enticing people to spend money.
We aren’t going to agree about this. In the other games I’ve played (WoW, Rift, TR, Rappelz, Last Chaos, Tera, ToR — a little) gearing up was a pain in the skritt. Here, it’s quick and easy (well, except for the poster child for the I Need Something to Work For Foundation).
Maybe it’s a large difference in playstyle, but I never found gearing up in Rift to be that difficult (though it should be noted I never hit the level cap or got into raids, etc.). I was able to progress on gear via the class-specific quest rewards usually or through drops. Anything I purchased was done so via coin made by selling loot and mats. This was also my experience in Vanguard.
This is being changed next patch, please wait for that before whining.
So you actually believe that Arenanet is going to implement this new change without gimping it to the point that people will still run right past champions? That’s foolishness. Arenanet will change loot drops on champions, then make it so you can only get said loot once a day or something dumb like that. The end result will be that people will just continue to completely ignore champions.
Loot in this game is pathetic. I calculated out the loot drop rate after a week of spending half an hour a day specifically killing mobs in Orr for T6 mat drops (whether direct or through bags). The rate of return on it would net the total amount of mats needed for a legendary at around 2 years of playing half an hour a day (to avoid being punished for playing how I want to play, a.k.a. DR).
Yes, that time can be cut down by doing two zones for half an hour each, but I’m not interested in farming for an hour straight every day. There is no mythical “just play the game” method for obtaining the required materials for something like that. The best mats for the best skins and armor drop only in 3 or 4 zones in the entire game, and you don’t get them while leveling through places like Queensdale, Genderran Fields, etc.
As others have mentioned, loot in this game is often useless. At 70+, it’s pointless to even look at anything that isn’t orange, and good luck if you want to outfit yourself with yellows through game interaction. With all the crap on the yellow table, you’re lucky to even get a yellow drop that matches your profession.
Everything in this game is geared towards the gem store.
If you enjoy a challenge in various fighting circumstances, GW2 delivers (for most people). If you want to explore, it’s there for you, but god forbid you come to GW2 and want to craft things with materials you harvested yourself, because you are going to either grind until your fingers fall off, or spend years via “casual play”. Meanwhile your friends who like challenges or exploring are burned out on content in just a few months.
Any info on Celestial? Is it more for metal also?
I’m considering putting Celestial on medium armor, but just not sure how it will look outside of the preview window.
I’m looking for opinions based on people’s experience with Abyss and Celestial dyes.
Are they that much better than their lesser components (black or white)?
How do they react compared with the lesser dyes in different lighting situations?
It’s really difficult to tell much of the difference in the light of the preview window. Celestial appears to be a bit brighter than white, but I’m not quite sure it’s 10gold worth brighter. However, I also know that what you see in the preview window isn’t exactly how something shows in the general world.
Are they worth buying (or keeping if you get them as a drop)? Or are they mostly hype?
Don’t expect it to be fixed so close to new content being released. That’s another advantage for Arenanet with their Living Story stuff. They rotate things out so fast they don’t have to care about bugs.
I’m getting really tired of dying due to this stupid bug.
I’ll be in the middle of a fight, usually with multiple NPC’s, and the movement keys (WASDV) simply stop working all together. I can still use utilities and skills, but no movement at all. This consistently happens after rallying, and ONLY happens on my thief character.
edit Possible due to the “death nova” on downed state from superior rune of affliction?
(edited by Neural.1824)
Can’t expect much from some schools of thinking these days. They brainwash these marketing types into believing the latest hype then hand them a piece of paper as proof of their new found enlightenment. Then they get hired at a company based on that paper and upper management gets lost in the murky details of why their sales are tanking. “they have a paper! it’s obviously not their methods that are the problem!”
Social media is in turmoil at best, because people don’t like their personal information being farmed or sold, and they’ve been burned. See the thread on these forums about how GW2 didn’t get the 1mil “likes” they were begging for. Count the number of people who didn’t add a like simply because they don’t have or refused to use Facebook.
Even if social marketing is the “wave of the future” like so many seem convinced it is, a responsible company will have at least one location on their own site where they centralize news related to their products and services, keeping it up to date with the latest.
Can you imagine if these people had control over the game info itself? Instead of a rather comprehensive wiki, we’d have to keep a bookmark list of 20 or so sites as to where to find information about in game items or other game related material.
There won’t be enough food for the duration of the festivities. Oh no!
Nah, people can handle that. However, if they run out of beer…
Ah yes. New, shiny, amazing, but when you read the fine print, next to impossible to get.
A cheap marketing gimmick. Is that all you’re good for anymore, Anet?
I’ll be impressed by a legendary the day that Anet provides a title by which people who crafted their legendary can be distinguished from those who bought it outright.
The UI pulls from your OS’s default font. You might want to revert that back to something like Arial, if you did change it.
I wonder if this has to do with a setting on Windows 7 regarding how it handles the extended ascii stuff.
I vaguely remember making a change a long time back to allow my system to display international and extended characters for use in some programs.
The Claw event is a good example of why I think that Anet is going to make this a 1-per-day type thing.
In the event that they didn’t think of this, go for it until they do!!
Or they could use the easier programming route and replace those champions with veterans.
Or even replace those champions with lootless normal mobs like we have in Cursed Shore with spiders.
Wouldn’t that damage the overall difficulty of the event though?
What are the record times for the various dungeons anyway? I have always heard really low numbers for CoF, which is why it is popular for getting gold, but has anyone documented the times?
Actually, the Skritt were not to be trifled with in the ancient times. Their empire spanned the stars, sprawling out across the galaxy like a blanket of fur. They valued peace and prosperity, and worked tirelessly to that end.
As fate would have it, they came across the Asura at one point while expanding their empire. The Asura, at first, were welcoming, but soon began to resist the ways of the Skritt not out of disdain for their desire for peace, but out of jealousy. The Asuran’s did not like the idea that they were not the most intelligent beings to exist.
It was the Asura who discovered the Skritt’s weakness, in that their intelligence was only measured by how many were concentrated in one location. After a century of planning, the Asura finally struck at the heart of the Skritt empire, kidnapping key individuals and moving them as far as possible from the others. As the kidnapping process continued over a period of 8 years or so, the overall intellect of the Skritt was decimated, and their empire of peace crumbled. Vile entities soon began eliminating the Skritt mercilessly, while the Asuran’s ignored their plight and worked studiously to obtain their own power structure.
After many centuries of long wars and countless lives lost, the races of the galaxy spread out to the very edges. Isolationism became commonplace.
Still living in fear of the Skritt’s group intellect, and the abilities they harbor within, the Asuran’s decided to find a habitable planet upon which to set up a laboratory where they could keep the Skritt in check, as well as work to develop a way to genetically remove this unique aspect of Skritt intellect.
While efforts have been somewhat successful, the Asuran’s are still somewhat paranoid, and to this day in places like Metrica Province, they run experiments on Skritt to test their IQ, even going so far as enlisting other unknowing races into assisting with the tests.
The Claw event is a good example of why I think that Anet is going to make this a 1-per-day type thing.
In the event that they didn’t think of this, go for it until they do!!
I really hope whats been said in this thread comes to fruition. It would be beyond amazing if I could log in, go to orr, and wreck some baddies for some DECENT LOOT. WITH OTHER PLAYERS. PLAYING TOGETHER. HELPING ONE ANOTHER KILL THE MONSTERS.
inb4 somebody tells me I can log in and get decent loot from orr right now. You go farm there for a few hours and tell me how much you make.
Spoiler alert: I already know the answer and the number is pathetic
Pft, I spent 5 minutes in Orr last night with my level 2 ranger and made 3000gold. True story.
I think everyone who voiced their advice in this thread on how to best troll the champion zerg in Queensdale should be banned from the game.
It’s one thing to play the game and do events, but intentionally disrupting dozens of players for the “lulz” should definitely be a bannable offense.
If a zerg is running around helping people run champion events for XP and rewards, there’s no issue with it at all, but as soon as someone starts being an kitten about it, then the rules change. People like you run around in a zerg and then scream at others for breaking your precious chain, not giving a care in the world for the fact that the person doing it might be new to the game and completely confused about what is going on.
Arenanet sure as hell isn’t going to do anything about the people verbally harassing others for some perceived slight, so it’s up to the players to do something about it.
The ones who should be banned are the idiots in the zerg that start hurling insults when someone does something that doesn’t fit their myopic view of how the game should be played.
The models are really well done, and the animations are great. The biggest thing missing is a lot more animations. I miss the huge variety that CoH had.
I mean come on. Who doesn’t want the “/smack” animation just for Traherne?
Did you all notice the part where it says “if you qualify for loot”?
It hasn’t been fully defined yet what that means. Don’t assume that “qualify” means you’ve done enough damage to the critter. Knowing Anet it very likely means “if you haven’t done this already today”.
If it was based on damage measurement, farming will be a huge deal again until they decide to nerf it. Not that this is bad. It would nice to take part in the events in Orr with lots of others, and not have to guest or wait around for enough people to show up.
Just don’t get your hopes up.
On the bright side, it means most of the events will get done at least once a day I suppose. I support this change, I’m just apprehensive about how they are implementing it. They never do something without strings attached.
1. Join the zerg for a bit
2. Figure out their path
3. Get some friends and do events out of sequence to mess up their pattern
4. Laugh in map.
Maybe I’m on my own with this, but it would be nice to see more personal story stuff added to the game.
The addition of a quartz node to the players home instance via activities through living story touches on a huge possibility for this game as well.
I initially was excited about the personal story aspect of the game, because it built a story behind the character I was playing. Along the way, however, a few things happened that dampened that and eventually ruined it, for me.
With my main character, I chose the “never recovered my sisters body” story for the thing my character regretted. As the clues came out in the story, I actually was drawn to completing the story lines. Driven to get that next bit of story. One of the disappointments was that the story reached its climax so quickly, and the main let down was the conclusion of it. I mean, here my main character thinks her sister is dead. She has a battle in a cave, and suddenly finds her long-lost dead sister is alive and in a prison cell in the cave my character just cleared out. Yet my characters reaction to this news is not much more than “oh hi”.
Really?!? Seriously?! She thought she was DEAD. Was the actual regret something like “I never recovered my sisters body because even though I hate her guts beyond the grave, I promised mom and dad I’d have the brat buried properly and it’s just a duty I want to get off my hands”?
There doesn’t need to be some comically dramatic everyone’s-crying-their-eyes-out kitten y reunion, but good grief, show some emotion.
With all the focus on the Living Story stuff, it would be nice to see some more personal story intertwined with that. Specific interactions with NPC’s that are unique to each player based on their personal story line, all of which can continue to make changes to their home district.
tl;dr: the personal story idea is great, but came up a bit short on delivery, but it would be nice to see more, deeper, personal story stuff developed beyond the final story missions. It doesn’t need to be epic, but it needs to be deep and intriguing.
I’m asking this here because after filing bug reports and such I’ve never received a single reply on the matter and can only assume that Arenanet doesn’t consider it their problem.
On the UI, in various locations, such as when I have a mob targeted, the hyphens/bullets between things get converted to ASCII characters other than what they are supposed to be showing as.
For example:
• displays as É
This isn’t limited to the selected target window, but also shows up in the crafting lists window when using a crafting station, as well as other areas in the game.
Does anyone else have this issue, or has anyone experienced it but found a fix for it?
Thanks

More sources for Icy Runestones and Obsidian shards.
Weapon Master achievement required for use of Legendary of that type.
I’ve been running into a problem in which my character is in a fight, and somehow gets thrown into the “downed state”, yet doesn’t fully enter it. The result is I have full normal weapon skills and utility use, but cannot move (via mouse or WASD).
It considered me out of combat, so I tinkered with utilities, and discovered I could break this by using Roll for Initiative.
note: I have only experienced this bug on my thief, not on any other character classes.
Has anyone else run into this, and are there other known ways of breaking out of it?
I don’t understand why getting all worked up over people who don’t want to hear your music. If they don’t want to hear it why would you care?
I doubt there are very many true musicians upset about this issue. Most of the whining is the spammers pretending they are of value to society.
The downed state is very likely a permanent fixture in GW2 due to it’s function in PvP. It is not there to provide you with an escape, it’s not there for your friends to rez you, it is there to provide the enemy player with the ability to stomp, which is nothing more than a power trip that most of the player-base gets off on. The act of murdering a helpless individual makes them giddy, and the downed state provides the closest thing they can get to non-consensual PvP. This is exacerbated by the fact that you can stomp anyone in a downed state, even if you did no damage to them at all, so even people who don’t PvP very well at all can “feel the power” and get the thrill of taking someones life without having to fire off a single shot.
Given the last few stories, I’m expecting a Centaur/Branded alliance. Yes.. Bronies.
I’m expecting Ninja. Then Ninja Pirates. Then Airborne Ninja Pirates. Along with a wizard school, a secret coven of Sparkly vamps with sparkly weapons, and a gorilla going wild tossing ale barrels around. You have come to the conclusion that I have a long time ago. It saddened me greatly to see such an epic game go down the toilet and become nothing more than a Chuck E. Cheese ticket counter.
Very well put.
Just like an expensive car, you don’t have to get it IF you can afford a cheaper car. If you do go for the expensive car, be prepared to pay the price for it.
Wrong. If you buy an expensive car, it usually will out perform a cheap car. You don’t pay $200k for a Ferarri and get a Chevy Malibu with a neat looking exterior
I reported something once that I questioned as a potential exploit. After multiple conversations with Anet about it, they basically would only find different ways of saying “We’re looking into it, we don’t have an answer, don’t do it.”
Still waiting for confirmation on it. I’m pretty sure it is not an exploit, but you have to be paranoid in this game, or wind up banned.
I’m afraid to move more than 5gold from my character to my bank or to withdraw that much just to buy an exotic on the TP. Anet is just ban-happy
Need to change the audio to “:gasp: Sweet sweet …garbage.”
