Neural.1824

This is exactly what GW2 needs.

“final blow” animations especially, where like a warrior jumps up with his great sword and slams it down on another person, hacking his skull in two, with cracking sounds as the sword is pried free. Mages that use fire can have their final blow be immolation, complete with the body shrieking and writhing on the ground for a full minute before finally just laying still and burning. Rangers would have a final blow that results in blood spraying from the victims mouth as the cough and wretch from the arrows in their chest. Whistling air sounds come from the holes in their lungs where the arrows protrude, the body laying on the ground, twitching afterwards as a red stain covers the dirt around them.

Even better, let’s connect Anet with the military in Afghanistan, and get them to record the sounds of people dying, so we can have realistic screams. How awesome would that be! Every time you kill a monster you get to hear a real person die.

You people are sick kittens. Leave GW2 and don’t come back.

The talk of the LB being completely reworked is depressing. Anet’s definition of reworking is equivalent to destroying. Odds are they’ll remove 2 or 3 of the best skills, consolidate them into 1 single skill that is nerfed into the ground, then add “new skills” that are nothing more than graphical fluff with dinky amount of damage applied so they can still be called attacks.

I don’t play a whole lot anymore because I’m a crafting/loot addict, but all this living-story stuff has the distinct feeling of a quick paint job to make something old look new.
It doesn’t feel like it’s part of the world.
As was said above, it doesn’t feel like a “living story” as much as a big advertisement for gem-store items.

I’ve come to believe that at Anet meetings about any changes or new content to the game, the first question they ask is “will this drive people to the gem store?”

GW2: Monthly, a joke?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Neural.1824

The monthly requirements are fine as they are. They allow wider availability to people with different play-styles and time investment.
Anet is trying to cover as large a group as possible with the settings, and while they may need to be tweaked a small amount, they can’t pander to any one small group. Due to different levels of time commitment, I’ve finished them in roughly a month, down to finishing them in just 2 days of focused playing.

MMORPG: The Best MMOs of 2013... So Far

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Neural.1824

Neural.1824

I’m surprised rift didn’t make the list. I’ve never played it, but i’ve heard its a pretty good game and its going f2p soon.

Not suprised at all that WoW wasn’t on there. It is literally hemorrhaging subs. It’s lost over a million since the expansion came out, and that’s when it was already down a couple million. It may be the greatest MMO of all time, but it isn’t great as a 2013 MMO.

If you read the comments on the thread, someone asked about it and there was a response. Apparently the Storm Legion upgrade wasn’t all that well received and Rift is pretty much a dead zone right now. That’s why they’re going F2P.

Rift has been a favorite of mine for a long time. GW2 was a game to play while taking a break.
That being said, my impression of Rift from this past week of playing again, is quite different from the “dead zone” you described. The Guardian side areas I was in (Sanctum, Silverwood, Gloamwood, Scarwood reach, etc.) were all much the same as they were from back in the first few months of launch. Lots of people in Sanctum/Silverwood, fewer in Gloamwood, and fewer again in Scarwood. But there were people there.
I compare Scarwood Reach (Three Springs server) in Rift to Timberline Falls (Yak’s Bend) in GW2 and I see GW2 as the game that has fewer players. I’ve roamed for an hour or so in Timberline Falls and seen no-one. Yet in Scarwood, I’ve never really had a problem getting help removing invaders (especially near Kain’s command post).

Perhaps it is an issue of server population, but, again, I have to disagree that Rift is a dead zone (at least on the Guardian side. Perhaps the Defiant side is suffering?)

I had to laugh at your comment earlier about Perfect World. I’ve played a character up to 62 in that game, and it is my personal opinion that GW2 beats them out for cash shop herding. The most money I spent in that game was on materials for crafting items, and it’s not that those materials weren’t available due to stupid RNG and DR mechanics, it was just that I didn’t care to spend hours at a spawn spot trying to beat bots to materials. In GW2 your options are: Grind CoF Path 1 for gold to buy mats, or pay cash to buy mats. Otherwise you are stuck running all over the map to avoid DR only to get about 2 needed drops every half hour, and nodes don’t respawn for a long time.

Just my opinion based on my experience.

DR is one of the primary reasons I don’t play anymore. It impedes players goals. It is an outright lie that it has anything to do with botting. DR, like so many other things Anet has done, is focused on funneling players to buy gems with real cash so they can buy gold.

I agree that the RNG is a kitten and Anet’s obsession with nerfing anything that can make you money or t6 mats, except CoF path1, is slowly driving my interest in the game into the ground. I like the game, I spent 1000 hrs on it so far but I am at the point now where I don’t see the point of playing it anymore cause everything I do gets rewarded with kitten that ain’t worth the time I put into it. Who the heck wants to farm grind the same dungeon over and over and over just to be able to purchase stuff that you should be able to drop. Patiently waiting out the release of another great MMO.

+1

Regarding WvW: I’ve never been into PvP, but the whole WvW aspect of GW2 was really attractive, so I gave it a try. The “newness” of it wore off not long after I got used to the idea of being flattened by a zerg. It needs some substantial work before it really becomes a viable part of the game beyond mindless grinding. As I’ve said in the past, it wouldn’t take more than 3 servers agreeing on a certain pattern of play to get 3 zergs (one from each server) to simply go in clockwise fashion around EB, taking supply camps, towers, and the keeps, over and over in a big loop. Getting beyond issues of people not playing by the merry-go-round rules, they could simply go for hours just collecting wxp and other rewards.

PvE is getting boring because you have to put in such a large amount of time to get even simple rewards. Killing veterans and Champions gets really old when the loot is junk. The thrill of winning against specific mobs dies off after a few times. These days my guild and I just kill them when they are part of monthly or daily.
At the least, Champions need their loot boosted, and their frequency cut (to balance the increase in loot quality). They don’t need to drop exotics, but green or better (guaranteed) would make a bit more incentive to clear out even the difficult ones.
Anet needs to start enticing the players to spend money, instead of trying to force them to do so.

What's the deal with Ranged Autoattacks?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

It would be nice if the standard #1 on the long bow was decreased in its cycle time to about half way between where it is now, and #1 on the short bow.
It does a fair amount of damage, but only at greatest range, which, in many cases, lasts about 1 to 2 shots before the damage drops too much for it to be useful.
I’m not saying the Longbow should be so powerful that you could drop weapon swapping, but if you swap between Longbow and GS, you’ve got a substantial gap between your long range and melee damages.

Neural.1824

I’ve died for the third time in less than half an hour now not due to my own skills, armor issues or other crap, but due to targeting bugs, and an incredible amount of lag.

There shouldn’t be a 20second delay when pressing a key, be it a utility, skill, or health. I shouldn’t jump off a cliff side and take 2x the fall damage because I hit the ground, only to then watch myself jump off again and again take falling damage.
When I left click on a target to select it, and said target is selected, if I hit 1, I should start shooting at that target, NOT THE MOB STANDING BEHIND ME. Not the target that is well out of target range and off to the side either!
Shooting at a targeted monster should continue to do so while the monster is in range. Not just randomly switch and decide to start shooting something else.

This is making the game anything but fun, and nearly unplayable.

Legendary vs. legendary!

Neural.1824

I’ve been working towards my legendary for a couple weeks. Not very long, and I don’t have much to show for it, though I’m half way to the total BoH I need, and I’ve collected a LOT of wood.
That being said, I’ve been seriously reconsidering due to a couple factors that are along the lines of what the OP is talking about.
Gathering 250 each of the T6 mats is pretty much an exercise in insanity. It’s not impossible, but I wonder what percentage of legendary owners actually just bought most of theirs. I farm for a couple hours in different zones on nights when I want to really push things, and generally wind up with maybe 10 of the T6 items, and perhaps 25 of the T5’s. With limited time amounts, that’s just a long way to go time-wise.
The other thing is stats. Right now you pay for a skin. BFD. It’s a skin, several of which are ridiculous, and some of which aren’t all that special when it comes to effects. That aspect is fine, but the stats that come with them bring legendaries down to the level of standard skins.
Legendary weapons should be legendary in all aspects, including stats, and instead of having Anet give them some set of stats that no-one uses. It would be better if legendaries had 3 “legendary attribute slots”, where, much like infusions, you would place in special gems that imbue the weapon with the stats you pick, AND the number those attributes add would be at least 2 points higher than any other weapon in the game.
That would make them a little more worth the effort.

I am having a huge failure rate with running the Troll’s End puzzle (something I do daily, just because). I only am successful about 1 out of 20 or so times that I attempt to do it. It’s not any random point in the puzzle that I have an issue with, it is two specific jumps. Each one involves jumping from a plank of wood onto a stone column.
In each case, it is close to impossible to move your camera in order to see what you are doing (no thanks to Anet for that), and in each case there are collision surfaces which cause problems with jump height and distance. At least for me.

What is the trick to getting these jumps done perfectly each time?

Each loot group has a specific set percentage chance of dropping. Arenanet didn’t want to risk people leaving/not-buying due to the ridiculously low drop rates they think should be used, so instead they bumped up the drop rates and filled each table with a bunch of junk. Thus the, hypothetical, drop rate of 0.0001% gets cut in half or worse.

Prioritizing a bug fix that doesn’t actually affect the TP usage at all over any fix in the game that does affect players would be irresponsible.

At the beginning of the thread you stated that this wasn’t a bug so much as an issue of cleaning up.
I’m guessing that the trading post items are all in some sort of database, and along those lines I’m guessing that the number of orders on the TP can, on a small level, affect the performance of the database when people are performing however many searches they do per minute.
Cleaning up the garbage out of that system would be a step forward in preventing future problems, I would think.

There is only one group of people who could get, and likely have, enough data to tell you how to get around DR, and that’s the people who write the code for the bots. Because, unlike those of us who are real players, the programmers need to determine how to get around such things, and will watch loot drops carefully so they can get the highest profit out of their business.

Hide all other players from guest and change the faction colors on the map from red, green, blue to gray. No interaction between guests and other players while in WvW. There a solution to your ridiculous problem. Took me all of 10 seconds to come up with too.

Perfect, now servers can log in a huge zerg, and then have a large number of people guest on an opposing teams server, thus locking the map up so they can just take over everything with little opposition. Beautiful plan.

There is no point at all in gathering all the required materials if the entire build is balanced on the almost non-existent chance of obtaining a single key component.

With my luck, the gold value of everything I’d have to throw in would exceed the outright purchase cost of any legendary on the market by a factor of 5 or more.

It's not the lack of a trinity

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Meanwhile, in GW2, no-one needs a 400. Because just about everyone is either already at 400, or will be in a couple hours of work. Crafted items are sold pretty much at material cost.
I would love for crafting to be a real part of this game, and not just an occasional easy-daily or extra XP boost for when you want to level a character. I highly doubt that we’ll ever see it go beyond that though. I don’t think Arenanet is capable of doing something like that, and even if they could, I don’t think the care enough to do so.

the problem is easy to fix though. When I thought about it… You know how jewelcrafters can have recipes drop in TA and Arah for rings that are bloody expensive? Why not to add special dungeon skins for weapons and armor that are not buyable with tokens, but rather you would have to finish all paths of that dungeon and buy the recipe with tokens, however that said recipe for a weapon piece or an armor piece would cost more tokens than an exotic armor piece and would also cost a certain amount of tokens to make? That way if the skin is awesome enough we have a system for making sellable awesome skins whose recipes are hard to get, therefore not every crafter would go trough the trouble of getting them, meaning that the crafter that does get it could sell it for a high price?

I suppose we sort of have that with the MF recipes.
Arenanet should make some of the MF recipes require 400 in a set of trades. For instance, the Mystic Staff. Require Artificing 400, Huntsman 400, and Weaponsmithing 400 (3 weapon related trades).

It's not the lack of a trinity

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Neural.1824

Neural.1824

Case in point: a lot of people want the crafting system to be more profitable, but I personally like the fact that crafting is extremely expensive. This gives it a significant barrier to entry that ensures that the market won’t be flooded by top-level crafters who all have the exact same recipes and can crank out top-end crafted gear cheaply. In return for the expense and difficulty involved in the crafting system, you can actually level a character through it. I feel that crafting should actually be MORE difficult, to the point where crafting could be a dedicated profession like it is in Ultima Online.

As someone who has always been drawn to the crafting side of games, GW2 has been a major let-down. We do have market flooded by top-level crafters who all have the same recipes. The only reason rare items are expensive is because they can be salvaged for Ectoplasm. Exotics are expensive not because of any challenge to crafting itself, but because of diminishing returns/loot-drop rates. Prices are upside down as well on things. The cooking profession has a number of items that sell for less than the cost of the materials required (look at the cost of a yam vs. items made with yams. Same for chili peppers and vanilla).
I put a lot of time into crafting in various games, and with the exception of GW2, there was always a need for someone who did high-end crafting. It was part of your “resume” when applying to guilds. Even if you weren’t that great with dungeons, you were desirable because you had put in the time to be able to craft things that other guild members needed to have crafted.
Meanwhile, in GW2, no-one needs a 400. Because just about everyone is either already at 400, or will be in a couple hours of work. Crafted items are sold pretty much at material cost.

What’s your basic measurement of how well a certain item affects your ability to play?

Do you look at how much damage you take when killing a mob?
Do you dump the damage info and look at how long it takes to kill something?
Do you pour over combat logs?

I’m interested in how others test out their gear when they want to make a change.

For myself, I like to go to Southsun and look at time-to-kill and how much health I have left when taking on a Young Karka solo. Not to weak, not to tough, and possibility of decent loot.

What do you do?

The primary issue with Arenanet making this sort of thing account bound is people buy them anyway.
As long as they are making money, they are going to keep doing this sort of thing, no matter how ridiculous it is.
On the various threads that have come up on this topic, there are many people in each thread who have stated they bought one at it’s current price and usability, some who have bought multiple ones.
Why should Arenanet change anything about it at all?
Until the majority of the customer base decides that they aren’t going to purchase something because it isn’t account bound, Arenanet is going to continue to sell these things are these prices with the same restrictions.

You know, when I saw “Frost Themed” I thought of blue’s, white’s, maybe some lighter greens or blue-green hues

Tarnished Silver?

Only “frost theme” in that color is the kind of snow a dog leaves behind.

Anyone know how long “a limited time” is? Has Arenanet done something “available for a limited time” in the past that can be used as a measure of how long the item might be on the market?
