3500+ Exotic Essence and counting.

An Essence Gobbler would be nice, but I think there are some other things that could be implemented that could also work well.

Or if that’s too much work right now, add a recipe to let us craft exotic into Legendary. Requires 5 exotic, and results in 2 Legendary (this overcomes the issue of an exotic being 200 luck, and a legendary being 500).

Neural.1824

I believe you guys didn’t get the issue here.

Look at the picture again. There is a `200 Order` for 850G in the top row of order.

1- if someone has the money to place order, most probably put order for 850g 2s and 12c and next person 13c and so on. (look at previous orders or in fact any other order transaction in TP)
2- obviously this order placed by one person who didn’t care to cause suspicion.
3- assuming it is single order from one person and it is legit, that person already put 170K gold in reservation to buy that many dye which obviously will not use.

I played the game for 2.5 years and did great in TP and still my total gold transaction is about 7000g in total.

I’ll let you to come to conclusion.

I’m sorry but I still call it Anet’s fault, in a way or another.

If everything is legit about this order game money sinks is not functioning as expected.
How it would be possible to have that amount of money after so many money sinks in place.
and if this is not a legit order, how Anet didn’t notice people earning money in that rate.

Yes, there are people who have enough gold to make buy orders like that.
It is also likely that someone has placed said order to artificially fix the price in order to profit from it down the road.
Permafrost dye will be in the thousands by the end of the year, the person who placed that order likely had a stack or two of them.
The only time the price will go down is when Anet brings back the Jormag dye kit for a short period of time (whenever that is). The buy order is there so the price never goes below that level, yet when the dye kit is gone again, the price will rise back up to over 1000g, meaning that while they take a hit on the front end by buying at a higher rate, they also gain a ton when the dye kit goes away.
This is the same for a number of other items in the game. Prices are artificially inflated by people who have thousands and thousands of gold in their wallet.

The real question is whether or not Anet is fostering this activity as a means of getting people to buy gems via CC

I stopped after the class specific cats came out.

Ever since that point the “harmless fun” aspect of it completely died, as people who only have the 5 basic characters couldn’t join in on the fun without buying character slots.

Sad that everything popular has to be turned into a monetization method.

It isn’t a “monetization method” — it’s just fluff. There are many, easier and more effective ways to get people to buy gems.

No. They took something that was a low level scavenger hunt that just about anyone could do for fun, and locked it behind gold walls and skill.
And yeah, there are many easier and more effective ways to get people to buy gems. That was my point. But they have to do this to everything.

I didn’t spend get to spend a whole lot of time in the demo, but here’s where I wound up:

Appearance: Loved the area of the map we could explore. The size of the maps is going to be more what I have wanted in games. Still not quite as bit as the Qa River Valley in Vanguard:SoH, but it was definitely a good size. (note: yeah, I know, vanguard was a different structure for zones).
Amnoon is beautiful. Moreover it feels big. To dig up Vanguard again, it reminded me of running around in Ahgram or Khal. Big plus for me in that.

Mobs/NPC’s: The frequency of mobs was perfect. Quite dense considering it’s a desert, but not overwhelming. They Hydra are challenging when solo, and a lot of fun in groups of 2 or 3, especially since they tend to roam the same areas where sand sharks show up and make things a bit of a dance. I don’t recall the group name for the mobs. Balthazars minions. There’s a rock-dog type creature that I personally think could be toned down on how much burning they apply. The Choya are absurd in an amazing way. They remind me of prickly pear fruit off of Cacti in the Southwest USA. There are enough NPC’s to make the place feel alive.

Mapping: POI’s, Vistas, etc. are well done, as well as the mastery points. I like the mini-game method of getting mastery points, but don’t over-use it please.

Bounties: Really nicely done. Learning how they work is interesting, and some of them can really surprise you. The Legendary Choya is a monster.

Loot/rewards: Other than a concern about the unidentified gear, I really didn’t pay much attention to loot as it was of no value in the demo. There were a couple bag items that surprised me with the amount of crafting materials they dropped. Not sure if this was just an enticement to buy though.

Story: only saw the beginning of it, but it moved well.

Mounts: Really well done. Great animation, movement is wonderful. Getting stuck on steps, not so much. The models themselves are stunning. The detail and materials used really work together well (I don’t know who does the original sculpting of the reptiles for Arenanet, but they are insanely talented. I’ve always been impressed with the drake ranger pet family, and the quality there is the same present in the raptors. They could use some more dye channel options, but I have to agree with the idea that players shouldn’t be able to have a completely Electro Purple Raptor. The dyable markings are perfect.

Suggestions: For mounts, extra dye channels would be nice, but would love to see skin patterns for them. Spots instead of stripes, and so on.

Now the odd part: I …actually am not sure I will buy the expansion. It looks great, but overall I got the subtle yet strong feeling of sameness. I love the new models, and the changes in mob tactics are nice. The landscape is stunning, but overall I haven’t really seen anything new that makes me go “I want that”. Sure, mounts in central tyria would be fun, but why do I need them?
These days I spend my time working on legendary weapons, and the occasional collection (out of boredom). The only second gen legendary I’m interested in has not been released yet, and as long as Mike doesn’t go back on what he implied in the AMA on Reddit, we will not need the expansion in order to make those.
The suggestions I have are lengthy, and honestly have already been addressed over and over on the forums (sometimes for years). More home instance versatility, deeper collections that aren’t designed to just be gold sinks yet reward items that are worth having. New skins that are exclusive to a combination of open world PvE + crafting. Titles for crafting first generation legendaries, (retroactive btw) so those of us who crafted them as opposed to just buying them off the TP can prove it.
It’s all been discussed before, and it’s way too late to put it into an expansion that most of it isn’t really related to, but the lack of such things is what has me wondering if I should even bother buying it.

A final note: About the pre-order packages. They are decent, but could be perceived as better value if some of the items were exchangeable for other things. After buying the Mistlock Sanctuary pass (congrats btw, you finally got me to spend money that wasn’t gifted to me for a birthday or other holiday), I have no need for something like the Lily of Elon pass. So that part of the pre-order package is.. pointless to me. A negative. Offer me a ticket for any black lion weapon skin of choice. Or something along those lines. That would be value.

tl;dr: Path of Fire is stunning in it’s beauty, and offers a lot of content, just…not content that piques my desire to buy it.

What they need to do is make a range around NPCs where it automatically dismounts, maybe something simple like 300 range. It doesn’t really make it harder to interact because you can always just use your interact key to access the NPC (some exceptions could be in areas like the Royal Terrace crafting areas where NPC and crafting benches are close together) but it certainly has the potential to be visually annoying if that is the goal of trolls.

This has been an issue for a long long time as well. There needs to be a zone around NPC’s that prevent use of mounts, boxes of fun, aviators boxes, and so on.

Considering that the earliest threads about this were well before Heart of Thorns, I suspect Anet will do nothing.

Neural.1824

I think one of the issues people are facing is one that Arenanet has been silent about: Megaserver still doesn’t work as it should.

I’ve lost track of how many times I log in, or port to a new map, only to be met immediately with the offer to switch maps. Or, like the other night, my party and I get offered to switch maps, we click on “yes”, and wind up…in the exact same map.

Getting the offer to change maps, and then getting transported to a map that is just as dead, or even the exact same dead map, is not helping the situation at all.

The best solution, of all, would be to allow users to somehow see and select different instances (with full instances marked in red). However, this also means that Anet would need to completely rework the harvesting system, as people would be able to hp from instance to instance harvesting whatever item they are after.

I think it is something that should be done though. To be able to open a LFG style window, or a tab in the LFG window that shows the instances of your current map, along with their population would resolve some of the issues like what the OP has experienced.

Longevity of the content is an issue in many games. Arenanet has attempted to force replayability by adding achievements and other things, which works in some cases, but overall it is also where some of the accusations of “grind” come from. For example, if you want to completed the “Machined” weapon set, you’re going to have to do a bit of running around, be it to get the related HoT map currencies, or to get the reclaimed plates, and so on. The line between “replayability” and “grind” starts to get blurred depending on how much time you have to spend in game, and what skill level you are at.

I think that, other than the map instance idea, one of the better solutions would be for Anet to have a team that is in charge of keeping older content alive, by introducing new items (armor sets anyone?) that require players to spend time in the older maps. Or new titles, new achievements, etc. This has been attempted through “current events”, so it can be shown to work, but so far it’s only been with core-Tyria maps, where specific currency can’t be worked into the equation.

I think the machined weapons set is a good example of the type of content that could bring players back to older maps.

Maps locked behind story episodes

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Neural.1824

Neural.1824

I object to gating on principle — it impedes the player from exploration and running into things by accident; it forces everyone to follow a near-identical path.

However, the current implementation by ANet is as close to a good compromise as I can imagine:

  • You need only complete the first instance (or in LS3.6, the first two) for a character to gain access to the new map.
  • That character can purchase a portal so that all toons can reach the zone, for free. The cost is nominal, in map currency.
  • You can combine all portal scrolls for LS3 maps for a somewhat less modest amount of local currency.

I’d prefer no gating, but if we have it, this isn’t too bad.

Small edit: You don’t even need to finish the first story segment if you have Teleport-to-Friend’s in your inventory.
I realize not everyone has those, but for the casual players who have been around a while, all you need is to find someone willing to party up and go there.

Neural.1824

Would you be happier if Anet removed the ability to buy gold with RL money and instead charged everyone a monthly sub to make up for the lost revenue?

Yes.

I don’t believe ANet’s decision to not make the original legendary account bound was to encourage gem sales but to encourage dedicated crafters to make them for gold.

Charged quartz was account bound and time gated to prevent gold wealthy players from crafting celestial gear immediately when it was first introduced. Again it was part of the “map participation is required to obtain” philosophy. First in the Labyrinthine Cliffs and later Dry Top.

As for legendary gear, ANet learned a bit from celestial gear and allowed the “basic” T7 mats (bolts, ingots, squares) to be tradeable but the mats used in their creation to be time gated and untradeable. This gave dedicated crafters something to earn income on. This meant the “participation” factor came from obtaining the mats required to craft vision crystals.

I don’t believe that Arenanet did anything of the sort with crafting in mind. You can make money with crafting in this game, but it is mind numbingly shallow in it’s mechanics, and for most is simply a source of XP gain.

I understand why charged quartz crystals were originally account bound, but maybe it’s time for some of those things to change.

I’m not completely against account bound items, but for some of the items that have been around for a long time, it would be nice for them to be unlocked. On the flipside, as I eluded to, I think they should change the first gen. legendary weapons to be account bound, and give a month or so warning about it to let people offload the ones they were holding onto for investment.
Alternatively, and more to my liking, I’d rather they simply create a series of achievements with related titles that are only given to people who have crafted their legendary weapons.
You want to blow $400 on a credit card and buy Bifrost of the TP, fine, but if you craft it, you should get a title that you can use to prove that you’ve crafted it at least once.

I wish they made old Legendary Weapons account bound, if you want one, you do the work to craft it yourself. Precursors are a different story since in the beginning it was entirely by luck which one you got, or variable cost but steerable using the MF as a gear sink. So trade was necessary for them.

But the devs what players to earn rewards that they get through participation in the event that grants those rewards. Buying them for just gold defeats that.

First generation legendary weapons should have been account bound from the start, but considering they pull it a price of $300US or so for someone to just use their credit card was far too appealing to the money counters. I believe making them capable of being traded pretty much destroyed any prestige they could have had.

There are a number of things in game that are needlessly account bound however. Elder Spirit Residue, Mithrillium, Charged quarts crystals, etc.
There is no reason to lock them down because most of them are simply one step away from being traded. Elder Spirit Residue can be crafted in to Spiritwood items that can then be traded. Ascended gear wasn’t out for more than a couple days before someone had crafted their own after purchasing the required Spiritwood and Deldrimor off the Trading Post, completely circumventing the time gating.
There are dozens of items that are either account bound or soul bound that do not need to be restricted that way.

In the recent AMA, one of the devs said they are looking at making it easier for folks to use a HoT legendary for twice-told legend.

That’s good to hear. It seemed strange to have a limitation of one per account when they are account bound items.
I can understand why they might limit one per account on precursor crafting for generation 1 weapons, but with the gen. 2 weapons and twice told legend it seemed odd. Not exactly excited enough to go through with it twice, as I have other goals, but building a second HOPE would be something I’d consider.

Are the new weapon skins seriously 2 tickets?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Neural.1824

Neural.1824

Maybe there’s a glut of tickets? Scraps drop more frequently since the chest revamp.

If there was a “glut” of tickets (there’s not), the supply on the TP would be high enough that the prices would be marginally higher than the skins which cost 1 ticket. As it stands the prices are running 2x normal, reflecting the normal average ticket value.

If there is some sort of problem with too many tickets, they can further nerf key farming. There are a lot of people who still do that once a week and a number of them on multiple accounts.

Anet simply cannot leave the Black Lion Tickets alone. It seems like every half year or so they have to try some new gimmick which has the same general result of making the players mad.

First it was locking the Immortal skin set in with outfit bundles (which they have apparently forgotten. At the rate the skins are accessible via gem store purchase it will be years before anyone could complete the skin set).
Then they thought it would be “cool” to make Privateer weapon set Account bound, thus forcing players to, one way or another, buy black lion keys.
Now they are breaking from the 5 year old standard and doubling the initial ticket cost.

The results are the same. People upset about it. The whales just buy what they want, because dropping $500 on gems to gamble with black lion keys is nothing to them. Many casuals just ignore it, while a few spend gold on the TP to buy the skin they want, and the collectors are forced to decide just how important it is to complete a set (side note: due to the Privateer skin set, which is locked behind RNG, and the sovereign set, which requires tokens that are no longer available, it is potentially impossible to complete the goal of having all skins of a specific weapon type.)

Living Story Humor

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Neural.1824

Neural.1824

I’m going to drop this here because it will retain a better chance at being seen by the folks at Arenanet, as it is directed more at them.

Currently there is a popular thread on Reddit in which dozens of players are making a stink over how much “humor” there is integrated into the living story episode dialogs.

You know what? [redacted]

Everyone here knows there’s a lot I think that Anet does wrong, but on this one I’m going to stand with what they have chosen to do. I have enjoyed the dialog in the Living Story episodes for some time now, and the light hearted nature of it is often something I look forward to in upcoming story segments.

Taimi is a strong point here. Her attitude, quips, and sarcasm are undoubtedly something that breaks the over all gloom and doom that the story carries.

If I want a tense, doom filled story that is carefully balanced and all serious, I’ll read a book. With all the hoops we have to jump through to get some of the things we want in this game, the Living Story is a pleasant break from what some would call a grind.

To be able to sit back, do some combat, but have a good laugh is one of the things that keeps me playing this game in spite of how much I’m at odds with its maker.

“That horribly disgusting body part of an even more horribly disgusting giant bug you keep in a despicable blighting pod fluid?
Yes, I remember, despite desperately trying to forget.”

That quote from Taimi’s Game was one of the funniest moments I’ve had when playing a game such as this.

And yes, I think the consistency of the humor has been delivered perfectly, so I don’t think it needs to be reduced in any fashion.

Enjoyed the episode a lot. Closure in some areas was nice to have, as well as some of the other information revealed. There were some pieces that really felt like Anet had plans for something more elaborate, but cut them out and just used the associated cut scenes. While it was nice for time reduction, it left things in that segment a little clunky.
The use of the renown hearts in the new zone was a nice choice, and the time to complete them is pretty well balanced.
some of the mechanics could use a little more information, but overall the whole story segment was enjoyable.

New looks is good, the pop-up/flyovers are a little annoying, but other than that it came out well.

Would like to see the Trading Post get some love in this respect. Having to click on each item you have listed to then open a secondary window in order to see if the item is out-bid is annoying and unnecessary. It would be better to simply allow the users to refresh by clicking “my transactions”* and then have the outbid items highlighted somehow.

*: for those who do not know, if you are looking at your “current transactions”, you can click on “my transactions” to update quantities if you have bought/sold any items during the time you are looking at your list.

I’d venture to say that whomever is behind it has not/does not play Guild Wars 2.
Otherwise they’d have timed this daily attack for server reset.

Suggestion: New Jeweler Recipes

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

3 soft wood planks
5 Silver ingots
10 Fine Essence of Luck
10 additional item such as Barbed Thorn, Airship Oil, Milling Stone, etc.

For something like the recipe above I’d think they’d be much more likely to make it a Mystic Forge recipe than to revamp jeweler. Especially since I don’t see any real connection between making rings, amulets, backpieces, earrings and making a harvesting tool.

True, that would work also, and would resolve the issue of jeweler not being able to craft planks.

Suggestion: New Jeweler Recipes

Add recipes to allow jewelers to craft tradeable harvesting tools, using level specific materials, plus an added bonus based on the 4th recipe item.

Example: For tools used to obtain Iron Ore, Soft Wood Logs, etc., the recipe would be:

3 soft wood planks
5 Silver ingots
10 Fine Essence of Luck
10 additional item such as Barbed Thorn, Airship Oil, Milling Stone, etc.

Reasoning: Using silver ingots (and gold for the next tier up, copper for the next tier down, etc.) would take a dent out of the currently high level of supply for gold and silver specifically.
Using Essence of Luck ties into the additional item, as it’s effect is a random chance.
The additional item is a way to create a sink for many items that there is a large abundance of.

What is the additional item for? it provides a feature similar to the watchwork mining pick, or the unbound magic tools. When using the items to harvest, you have a percentage chance of getting something else as a bonus.

What would the bonus be? That is up to Anet, as each bonus type would require a new database item to be created, though my suggestion would be that the “additional recipe items” could be categorized somehow, such that there are 5 to 10 various items that result in the same bonus item for harvesting.

How long would the special tools last? Ideally, they should allow enough uses that they are attractive to use when certain materials (such as silver or gold) are at an unacceptably low rate. Bonus items need to be of value as well, and not just more barbed thorns. The possibilities in that regard are pretty open. You could do anything from having a chance to have a gem or such (using mining as an example) be boosted to the next tier up. Or have a chance to gain a random boon that lasts 5 minutes.

The overall idea is to allow users to craft and trade these special tools, while increasing the value of oversupplied items. All within the realm of ensuring that once prices balance out on a given item, that the standard gathering tools become attractive in price once again.

My personal suggestions for the bonus items that can be harvested:
-Additional items of that which you are harvesting. Example: mine 5 ore, get 2 ore additional.
-Tiny Karma drips (100karma)
-Dungeon tokens (drop rate would need to be pretty low for obvious reasons)
-Ectoplasm
-Ascended materials (bloodstone, dragonite, etc.)
-Essence of luck (yes really, as you can buy the tools off the TP)
-seasonal items
-currency (seasonal or other)

Again, it would require a couple dozen new items to be created and have space put on the TP for them, but once the system was in place, it would also allow them to add more in the future.

edit: Yes, I realize jewelers can’t make soft wood planks. I’m open to suggestions on how to work around that, but I figured people could just buy the proper wood planks needed.

Almost 5 years, still no swimsuits

I’d like to see dyable swimsuits, but I’d also like to see some new emotes, and some new sitting poses.

Kinda like in City of Heroes, where you had 5 or 6 different sitting poses and you’d just use them by name.
Different sitting poses would allow the players to decide which one would be appropriate for their character race and height. You just stand on the object you wish to sit on, then do the emote. Pretty simple.

Anet rarely perma-bans for anything and there are reasons to it.

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Account-Actions-and-6-month-suspensions/first

There is very sound data to support that players that know they will be able to get their accounts back are significantly less likely to resort to the same behavior quickly (aka buying a new account and botting/cheating on that).

“There is very sound data”, yet they never provide sources for said data.

The “punishment” for this has got to have these guys rolling on the floor laughing. It’s bad enough that Anet refers to some theory on psychology as a reason to not perma-ban people, but now when someone exploits/cheats on a specific game mode, they are allowed to go full steam ahead with the rest of the game and continue making gold, getting daily login rewards, etc.?

From a players perspective, not banning these people (permanently in some cases) is not benefiting the game at all. The EULA/TOS/UA/term-of-the-month needs to be enforced in game and not with kid gloves.

Most of these people are going to look at “dishonor” with pride, and take it as a trophy of how amazing they are. You’re literally rewarding their actions.

Fixed that for you. Once you’ve played long enough, you realize that Truth, Rockspire, Stardust, Arc, and a couple others are just about the only exotics on the general loot table.

I really do not get what it is about Anet’s development that they haven’t learned that more dye channels = more desired by players.

The Moth wings are one of the better gliders out there, but they would be outstanding if you had full dye control, but no.

And what is so incredibly difficult about making the butterfly wings back piece into a glider skin? Or the glittering wings? People have wanted these things for years now.

People have their cash ready, but Anet is tripping over dollars to pick up dimes.

An option to disable the content would be nice.

Cats are cats, and they’re going to get into it, but if I had cats in RL that were constantly fighting, making noise, etc. I’d want to put them out in the back yard once in a while as well.
