Toypocalypse is fine as it is. There is no argument regarding the amount of loot you get either, unless you want to nerf the JP as well, since it is the highest level of loot per hour for the wintersday events.

The only change that is needed for Toypocoalypse is to allow parties to play in the same instance.

LFG for raids atm :
Full clear multiclass 150 Li
[US]Selling any raid boss <- lol
LF1dh/necro 150 LI+

Why in gods name put a very very important item like legendary armor in such a toxic playmode in its core?

LFG for Raids atm:
LFM exp Sloth

Look at that only one asking for LI, maybe it’s not the entire raid community that is acting in a manner that you deem to be ‘toxic’. If you look a little longer and a little more often you will find most groups are very flexible with the ‘requirements’.

Your “evidence” of non-toxicity is no more valid than his “evidence” of toxicity.

BL Chest drops have never been intended to be anything other than consolation prizes and junky ones at that. I can’t imagine why ANet would want to create a situation in which people would feel obliged to hang on to unwanted drops, until they had enough for some recipe. They certainly wouldn’t want to add more gold to the economy nor remove existing gold sinks (such as the Icy Runestones).

BL chests are White Elephant lotto: you usually get something for which you have little or no use; once in a long time, you get something worth telling your friends. Those who don’t like those odds shouldn’t spend gems on them.

If they are little to no use, why are they selling them for a dollar a piece on the gemstore?
Anet obviously sells enough of them to justify keeping them in the gemstore (as opposed to saving space and removing that tab completely).
So are the people buying them using them at a faster rate than they drop from chests? Or are you accusing them of being the “sucker born every minute”?

Recipes with alternate ingredients

Neural.1824

There are a lot of complex recipes in the game. Many of them require exotic item (and I mean “exotic” not in the orange sense, but just in the “unusual” sense).

I was looking at some stuff in my bank today, and how I’ve managed to gather several small stacks (< 250) of items that I very likely will never use.

For example: I have 39 Revive Orbs. In fact, in the 4 years I’ve been part of GW2, I have received: 40.

I used one to see how it worked, said “kitten this” and just started storing them. (sorry devs, even the changes you made to them won’t get me to use them).

I also have a number of merchant express, trading post express, etc.

35 XP boosters
24 Item boosters,

and so on.

All of these items come from Black Lion Chests. Over time I have purchased keys, and gotten them as drops etc.

My proposal is that these items be incorporated as alternate recipe items.

For example:
XP boosters, which drop from Black lion chests, go for 100gems if you buy them directly. Currently this is worth around 27gold. So let’s set a value for them at 20gold.

How about allowing players to craft their legendary component with 5 XP boosters instead of 100Icy Runestones?

That’s the basics of the idea. Allow boosters and such to be used in recipes as a replacement for gold sink items (since gold and/or real cash was spent to obtain them in the first place).

I was wondering: I can check with the team, of course, but perhaps the “free play” period was designed to allow people to get into the map, choose their location, and be ready to start a round of songs. If that was eliminated, might there be complaints about how we players are always joining in the middle of a session, which means we’d lose the ability to get maximum rewards? I’m just speculating here, but it crossed my mind.

How about instead of eliminating it, switch it to the front of the game?
Have free to play first.

-Allow’s people ot get organized on the map
-More friendly to new players that may not know how to play
-Longer window for people to get in at the start of things

Yeah I’m praying it’s an oversight that gets patched, but if not then I doubt my characters will be having a white Wintersday.

Maybe not even a drunk Wintersday…

Very unlikely it is an oversight at all. Anet won’t touch Mystic Coins because apparently everyone and their brother has 200 stacks of them just sitting in their guild bank.
People aren’t going to just magically dump them on the market like John Smith seems to think is going to happen. As the price goes up, they will continue to hoard them because the high end cosmetic stuff (Like legendary weapons, and potentially legendary armor) require so many Mystic Coins.
People aren’t hoarding them to flip on the TP for profit, they are hoarding them for future use so they don’t have to spend hundreds of gold to make the items they want to make.
As he said a few months ago in a thread about the economy. They aren’t going to touch it (what exactly he is being paid to do is beyond me if he’s the economist and his current stance is to not do anything to the economy).

Why 3 harvests? (QoL?)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Neural.1824

Neural.1824

It seems to have to do with all the animations being set to consuming tools. So in theory that shouldn’t be a problem for the endless tools, but then xp also follows that pattern.

So what you’re saying could actually be possible. If how much you’re going to get is determined at the start of each harvest then it could be consuming 4 or more tools during the harvest and then you don’t have to hit f again. But I think they like the way it is since it kinda shows, hey you got extra because you harvested and you can still harvest a bit more.

Ug… that’s a monkey wrench in the gears (the issue of tool useage). That alone might make the rework absurdly more time consuming than anything Anet might want to look at.

Ok, before this thread gets too far off topic, this isn’t about the amount of a given item you get per swing,.

I’d like to see them change the code so that your chances of “extra swings” is calculated before you start, thus allowing you to only have to interact with the node once.
That’s just a “want” though. Said desire got me thinking about why they do it this way in the first place.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Neural.1824

I’ve been curious about this since not too long after I started playing GW2. Why is it that our characters only take three swings at a given mining or logging node (or just one at harvesting node)?

Is it a software/code thing that prevents the system from determining how many harvests you’ll get up front and then just allowing the players to hit ‘f’ once and be done?

It’s not that it’s a huge game breaking thing to have to hit ‘f’ a few times in a row (for instance if you are harvesting guild hall nodes), but I’ve always been curious as to why it works this way.

Anyone have any insight or reference to ancient dev writings?

Dungeons? That would be fun. It would allow individuals to run Twilight Arbor or such to get tokens they need for whatever.
Fractals? maybe. I think they are similar to raids in their design.
Raids though? Definitely not. Yes, there are groups that are trying to do raids with fewer and fewer people , but in the end it’s still about actual human beings playing together to achieve a goal.

People saying "Go play another game"

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Neural.1824

Neural.1824

How many people find it offensive when people fall back on the “go play another game” to end game related discussions. It’s like saying that they are right; the other person is wrong and they should go away. I’ve seen this loosely thrown around on multiple forums.

Am I the only person who finds this insulting?

In my experience, the users here on the forum, even some with whom I am at odds with constantly, have only suggested such things when the person it is directed at has displayed a rude, condescending “I’m right” attitude. Often times such people make a statement and then degrade anyone that disagrees with them as weak, unintelligent, unskilled, and then writes them off as an “entitled snowflake”.

Under these circumstances telling the person to go play another game is perfectly acceptable because they have proven by that point without a doubt that regardless of the merit of their original statement, they are a toxic entity within the community.

The people here on the forum, and to a lesser extent on Reddit, are comprised of many different opinions, but the majority, by far, are of the same general consensus on how the game should be. On top of that, often times the most repeated requests are met not only with general opposition, but with opposition based purely on the issue of how much development time would be needed to add/include a feature that is superfluous at best (specifically in this case: mounts. I’d love to have mounts, but because we have zones so tightly packed with waypoints, it is simply not productive to add another system of travel.)

Finally, in the end, if you feel that someone’s comment of “go play another game” was offensive, insulting, or otherwise against the forum rules of conduct, report the post and let Anet decide if it was out of line.

Pre Cursor crafting is a joke!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Neural.1824

so the op thinks anet controls the tp right?

They literally based how much it takes to craft a given precursor on how much it was going for on the TP at the time. That’s why the resources required vary so wildly (by an order of magnitude or more) between weapons instead of hewing to the usual 2H/1H/OH rules as literally everywhere else in the game.

Basing the crafting of precursors on the TP price is one of the worst things Anet has done in the 4 years GW2 has been around. It’s price fixing. Probably to protect the investments of a handful of very rich players. I can’t see any logical reason for it beyond that.

Afk botters in bitterfrost

Neural.1824

If you see it happening, report it.

ArenaNet bans in waves, so you will likely see the same botters for a while. That doesn’t mean you report was ignored, it just means that a ban wave hasn’t hit yet.

Yeah, they “ban in waves”. Said “waves” can be confirmed to be at least a month of time (I reported an AFK farmer in Orr over a month ago. He’s still there, every time I pass that spot.

Of course, being that Anet only bans these people for a fraction of the time between “waves”, these people just wait out the ban, and then start up again.

Anet needs to do permanent bans, or they need to change their policy and say “ok, as long as you aren’t using macros, AFK farming is fine”, because what the are doing right now isn’t working.

API Key example [request]

in API Development

Posted by: Neural.1824

Neural.1824

I’m still as new as it gets when it comes to using the API, so what the pros don’t even think about may be stumbling blocks for me.

On the following page: Guild Wars Wiki API page it shows the following example:
https://api.guildwars2.com/v2/commerce/transactions/history/sells Authorization: Bearer api-key-here

When pulling examples from other parts of the API info, the examples they gave could be plugged into the web-browser and the returned info would just be dumped onto the page as text. Not so with the above example.

Yes, I did replace “api-key-here” with an appropriate API key

When I did put it in the browser, it spat back: {"error":“not found”}

It’s pretty obvious what goes in the api-goes-here section, but.. does it need quotes?
Is there some other syntax that is not correct?

I’d love to see a plain text example of a valid API call that includes a user key. So I can see how it works.

I know I go about everything backwards, but coming from a non-programming background, taking an example and deconstructing it works pretty well.

Thanks!

in Warrior

Posted by: Neural.1824

Neural.1824

If this post sounds rage-y, it’s because I am a bit ticked off.

I have one toon for each of the 9 classes, and as the map expands and the story continues, I like to do map completion on each of them.

Now suddenly I’ve hit this wall, and it’s really making me mad.

Zerker Druid solo? Check
Knight’s Daredevil solo? Check
Zerker Elementalist solo? Check
Condi Mesmer solo? Check
Condi Reaper solo? Check
Zerker DragonHunter solo? Check

Knight’s Berserker solo? FAIL
Ventari’s Berserker solo? FAIL

In fact, I can’t even survive the entrance area tot he Svanir Hive on my own. Any more than 3 mobs and I’m as good as dead.

After 5000+ hours, I’d like to think that I know a little bit about how to play the game, especially since my first world completion back in the first year of GW2 was on my Warrior with rare armor and an exotic hammer.

Overall the time it takes on my Berserker to kill a single standard Svanir mob (not vet) is probably 2 to 3 times as long as it takes on any other class (3 to 4 when in the Ventari’s gear).

Is Warrior just extremely weak on DPS? Is the class changed so much that it is no longer viable solo?

You know, there were chairs and all other sorts of things in City of Heroes that you couldn’t interact with, but Paragon didn’t waste time making items interactable, instead they did something just as smart, and added animations (LOTS of animations) that you could use based on where you were standing.
Want to sit on a wall? Just stand on the edge of the wall, and choose from something like half a dozen sit animations, and boom, you’re bottom is at the same level your feet just were, and you appear to be sitting on the wall.
We already have the code/ability to do this. Anet simply needs to add more emotes, which is something people have wanted for a LONG time.

Official Feedback Thread: Episode 3 -- A Crack in the Ice

in Living World

Posted by: Neural.1824

Neural.1824

Overall I’m somewhat more towards “I like” on this one, but there were a few things that really detracted from it.

Combat would be the lowest marks from me. It was challenging enough (I ran the story solo), but the mechanics could use some help.
Example 1: The ooze fight. I’m fighting off some oozes when the generator goes down, suddenly a wall drops, and there are a dozen oozes suddenly attacking me, doing damage, imobilizing….and I can’t do anything to them because they are on the other side of the “wall” that has gone down. My pet can’t attack them because of this now invisible barrier, and I can’t cross this border because I’m constantly being immobilized.
Example 2: Fighting the big modrem thrasher…. for 15minutes. Get his health 10% down, only to watch it regenerate because my pet was too close, or I failed to dodge. The crucial part is that through all the living story stuff it has never, in my opinion, been solidly defined that: White AoE will only help/assist you. Would much prefer the circles had been green, or at least tinted green to indicate “good”.
Example 3: Final fight. The boss mob had wiped out about 75% of his minions before I figured out that was what was happening. I know I’m not the sharpest tool in the shed when it comes to game mechanics, but a single line comment from one of the characters remarking that the boss was killing his own minions in order to get to you would have made a difference there.

Of course all of this is moot now as pretty much everyone that likes to go into these things blind has now finished them and the mechanics of the fights are common knowledge.

Visually, I enjoyed all of it. The new zone is beautiful, and I am ecstatic to see some truly big trees. New versions of the mobs we are used to have some variation which mixes it up nicely.

Story-wise, it was great until we caught up with Braham. I’ve never liked him in the first place and this only solidifies my opinion of him. What I fear most is where the writers are going with it, because right now it is heading towards some obscenely cliche endings.

Out of 10? I’d say 6 of 10 overall.

Yeah was just thinking the same thing as squee, this isn’t really a big deal, but it sets a precedence for what could become a major problem.

It’s slowly been moving that direction through various gem items (Immortal skins, for example, can only be obtained through gem purchases, and then there’s that Black Lion weapon set that is account bound but requires a black lion ticket to purchase). So it’s not like this sort of practice is new, they’re just doing it more and more. To me, this says that regardless of sales numbers etc., Anet is not doing as well as expected financially. If they were doing well, they wouldn’t need to resort to these sort of gimmicks to make money.

Has buying BL Chest Keys ever been worth it?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Neural.1824

Neural.1824

l — we’d need data on at least 1000 keys to get a reasonable idea of the approximate rates.

You could collect data on 100,000 keys, and I guarantee you someone here on the forum or on Reddit would still shriek “sample size too small!” and bang their rattler on their food tray.

Anet is fully aware of the nature of RNG. They have built entire portions of the game around it. For as long as the discussions about drop rates have gone on in this forum, I think it says a lot that Anet hasn’t simply told us flat out what the drop rates are.

I don’t beleive they want players to be able to make an informed decision. It’s a game in that respect: Hint at things here and there to trick the players into thinking they are making an informed decision, without ever revealing the root details.

Southsun Cove Abandonment

I’ve completed South Sun at least once on all 9 classes, and have obtained the items I need from there. Almost all of it done solo, yet I am currently only skilled enough to take down vet Karka solo on 2 of those classes (Ranger, mesmer).

The jumping puzzle is rare in that it involves timing, yet I don’t recall the last time I saw someone raging in map chat about committing acts of violence against the devs that designed it (something I have seen in Gendarren Fields). Skipping Stones, like the rest of the zone, is not designed to be easy. It is one of my least favorite jumping puzzles, and, until Ember Bay, the only one I’ve never done without using a mesmer.

But no, the zone does not need to be removed. In fact, I don’t see anywhere in the OP’s post that provides any sort of benefit to the content being completely gone. Should there be tweaks? Absolutely. The guild race is horrendous due to mobs, but that can be adjusted.

Example, no traits on armor at all, and allow the players to enhance the items to their desire? wonderful concept for a game that has not been developed yet, but Mike O. and Arenanet would have to be deliberately trying to go bankrupt and shut down if they were to implement such a thing. I wanted this year to end 6 months ago.

Why didn’t we just write the whole thing off as a dud in April or so and pretend it didn’t happen? We could have avoided all of this, and David Bowie could still be alive!

Knock it back to January and we’d have Allan Rickman, and Prince as well. :sigh:

Remove Salvage Confirm for Rubies & Wood

Rubies & petrified wood are a currency. It happens to break down into a currency as well.

Being that certain items require 100 or more of them, I can completely understand why Anet has set up a confirm on them. It’s to keep people from just using salvage-all on them. Yes, it’s a pain in the neck if you want to salvage a bunch of them, but on Anets side, it saves them a lot of customer service time/money in not having to deal with support tickets related to people accidentally salvaging 4 stacks of petrified wood (and no, it doesn’t matter how stupid you think they are, or how much you want to chant “l2p”, most of the people who will make this sort of mistake won’t even read the forums, so it’s simply going to happen regardless).

I’d like a solution to this issue myself, but I do not believe that including them in “salvage all” is the answer.

BL: bots and buying orders

The rate of speed in which a bot would need to refresh the TP in order for such a thing to happen would have to be very high. High enough that Anet should be able to see the activity with ease (whether or not they care to look, I do not know).

It is likely a bug. I have seen times in which buying items resulted in the same quanity, same price being there before I got back to the listing. Repeatedly.

I’ve also had issues with selling items to highest buy order, in which I received gold, but the item was not removed from my inventory (that bug appears to have been fixed however, not long after I started going in depth about it with support).

I believe there are bots on the TP. That being said I do not believe this is a bot case. I think it’s a bug, and one that Anet should probably focus on, as it does, in a small way, affect the economy. Items are being duplicated instead of transferred.

Marking important legendary items...

I believe you actually can buy a replacement for the recipe from Grandmaster Hobbs in Lion’s Arch, See https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Tricks_and_Tips_for_Mechanical_Pistol_Crafting

(At the bottom, it says you can purchase from him after completing the achievement.)

I just went to see if Hobbes has that, and he does. Thanks. Hopefully this will resolve the issue.

Marking important legendary items...

I have several precursor collections open.

I have an entire bank tab of items that may or may not be required for future components of said precursor crafting.

Note, I said “may or may not”.

Last night, I sold Expertise In Advanced Pistol Crafting thinking it was a collection item, not the recipe item that it is.

First, why is this item vendorable? It is used once in the process, and is not offered as a replacement item by any NPC.

I’ve filed a support ticket, but I really would like to see a change to how these items are marked (either by icon or text).

We have tool tip text that says “account bound”, “sould bound”, “..used in crafting legendary…” etc. It would be nice to have something as simple as “Important recipe item”. Or just make them not vendorable.

[Suggestion] New Gathering Tool Knife

Guaranteed? No. Even I agree with the RNG angle on this one.

Yes, current harvesting guarantees a result. Herbs, wood, berries, ore, etc., but guaranteed drops of a given item would be a large shift in the source of leather/cloth.

It could be a mixed drop. Sometimes you get 1c vendor trash (ruined hide), sometimes you get T5, and on rare occasion you get T6. The average needs to be a best 1 T5 per 10 skinnings.

Additionally, there is the visual clutter that would be created by having to leave bodies around.

The idea itself is nice. I know they have something similar for specific sources in Rift. Not sure it could be implemented here without a lot of changes that Anet probably doesn’t want to make.

A finished product.

This. Bugs are to be expected, but if they say “we’re looking forward to bring out our flying mounts system”, I don’t want to here excuses as to why it’s been delayed and will be showing up half a year after expansion launch. If they market it, it needs to be there. No more of this “we didn’t use the word ‘promise’” kitten.
