Tiny QoL request

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Neural.1824

WASD is standard movement in the game, along with the use of mouse buttons. People work their way into how they like to use these tools to move around.

This request is to add some consistency to these tools and the modes they are used in.

Specifically, when in the water, or on land, you can hold down both the right and left mouse buttons at once to move forward (like pressing W).

My little QoL request would be that holding both mouse buttons also has the same effect as pressing “W” when gliding: lean forward.

We NEED 30-40 Slot Bags

We do. Dude, do you not carry extra armor with you? Do you not carry different foods? Do you not carry different tools? Such as extractors, shovels, etc.? There’s too much to carry!

-No, if I need a different armor set, it’s in the bank, and I have yet to be is such dire need of an armor change that I needed to use a bank access item (which I have in a shared inventory slot).
-No, I don’t use foods/utilities other than in WvW or Raids, and even then it’s only 2 slots as i use specific food/utility items for my builds.
-No, I have permanent tools, or carry one extra of each (3 slots taken). Extractors are obscenely expensive to the point of “never mind”. Shovels and keys are in shared inventory slots.

To use your generalization in the thread title: we do not need larger bags.

If the ‘vast majority’ of players do not like the Desert Borderlands, I wonder why it was voted to stay…

I mean, the playerbase did get to choose whether to keep it, or have it removed permanently.

At least, WvW gets polls for the playerbase to choose what to add/change/remove; and more than any other game mode, it seems.

I believe it required a 75% vote, and that’s a pretty high threshold.

The problem there is it is only 75% of the people who are aware of the vote, meaning only those who visit the forums or Reddit.
Anet long ago dropped the ball when dealing with this sort of thing. A voting system should have been implemented in the client launcher that rewarded some sort of in game item for voting, along with an option to disable surveys. Only then would they have accurate information on what the player base wants, as they would not only have the votes from all players interested, they’d have the IP addresses to determine when 10 votes came from 10 accounts owned by the same person.
A great example of the difference between the internet community and the in game community is the vote between Evon and Ellen.
Here on the forum and on Reddit, you’d have thought that a win for Evon Gnashblade was going to give everyone a free precursor of their choice, plus 80,000gems in their account and a Lamborghini delivered to their house the next day, yet when it came down to it, Ellen won. The vote was taken via the use of support tokens in game, not via Reddit or the official forum.
There are a lot of people who play GW2 that aren’t involved with the forum or reddit. Some don’t even know the two are used for things as important as voting on the direction of the game.

Just curious if other people with multiple accounts have this problem.

Have you ever logged into your second account and jumped off of something really high, and only then remembered as you are tapping the spacebar furiously that you don’t have gliding on the second account?

Or is it just me? Cause I seem to do it at least three times per week.

Yes, and on a character I was very proud to have 0 deaths on.

That account has HoT now, with Ley-line gliding mastery unlocked.

About AFK farming

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Neural.1824

It’s been since last Summer since I began reporting a specific individual who has a Necro at a farming spot almost daily. The times that I’ve not seen them there, they are on another character in WvW. I don’t spam reports, and actually haven’t bothered reporting anyone now, because it’s pretty clear that Arenanet is fine with it, or that their punishment is so nothingburger that the players who do it come right back and start up again.
The farming has definitely affected the price on specific items as well, which, to me, indicates that Arenanet has no intention of taking action. If these people are doing something that affects the economy, and they aren’t getting banned harshly for it, then it’s clearly not an issue.

The Dreamer is my favorite legendary, and I don’t mind the sound the way that it is, but if it has to be changed, this is the best way to deal with it.
Give the classic whinny sound a chance to fire off once every 10 to 15 seconds with a guaranteed trigger when Opening Strike is active

suggestion: rewards for commanding

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Neural.1824

Neural.1824

In regards to something like this and PvE:

The only way this would work would be requirements for the reward to be given.
For example: Squad has to have x number of members at time of meta completion.

Additionally, the reward would need to be something that does not give an advantage in combat to a given commander (otherwise it’s too close to pay-to-win).

Reward ideas:
- Additional 1% gold reward per squad member upon completion of an event (example: 25 squad members = +25% gold reward upon completion).
- Additional 33% movement speed* for entire squad for 2 minutes(?) (stackable), thus encouraging squads to stick together after an event, and the stackability encouraging people to run around doing events. Would also allow squad members to drop speed enhancing utilities for other utilities (not that squad class/utility composition is that important in PvE)
*with the maximum movement speed limit still in place

I like the additional gold percentage idea the best, because it would allow, for the most part, good commanders to recoup the investment into getting the tag.

Seriously though, and looking at PvE mode, I think Ranger/Druid Longbow #3 (Hunter’s Shot) was terrible in its original form and… is still terrible.

It would be nice to see it reworked into something that is powerful, but has a drawback that makes a player need to think about whether or not they should take that risk (bad example: does a kitten load of damage, but also applies 3 stacks of vulnerability to self)

Leather Farm

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Neural.1824

Neural.1824

Re ashen’s question about prices: there was a panic sale when the farm was announced that drove the prices down to 19s 99c now the prices have gone back up to ~25s so no it hasn’t really brought the prices down.

Not on T6 anyway.

-For quite some time, there were threads on the forum and on reddit, where people complained about the cost of T6 leather.
-Anet, as quoted in a previous comment in this thread, stated that they were concerned about the cost of T6 leather, and were looking at introducing a leather farm.
-Anet announces a couple weeks back that there is a leather farm coming, and all the investors dump their leather, including T6 onto the market in a panic resulting in a huge drop in price overall.
-Patch hits, and….prices are recovering.

Anet simply added another source for leather, as opposed to adding a source or adjustment for a specific type of leather that was seen as a problem (per John Smith).
What players wanted and what Anet delivered are two different things.
If the players follow through anyway and farm the leather so they can make money selling T6 materials, the other 5 tiers are going to suffer greatly due to an influx of supply.
T5 leather squares had buy orders of around 95copper late last night and, according to gw2Spidy, have only just come back to being above silver in the past 12 hours.
IF players farm for T6, the side effect will be a slow crash of the other tier leathers.
So the players get what they want (cheaper T6). Meanwhile we head back to T5 being vendor trash (which, if you’ll remember, is why all these changes to refining amounts and patches were done in the first place). Bravo!

Alternatively, players decide that “farming” for an hour for 8 or 9 T6 sections isn’t really worth the time, and as soon as the next most profitable gold farm is found, they move to that. and then the next living story patch hits, and most players, rightfully, move on to the next zone. Resulting in leather prices going back up.

WM Mesmer Mind Stab

Neural.1824

When a White Mantle Mesmer casts their Mind Stab attack (similar to player attack but multiple locations are targeted), there appears to be a cast time on it. It’s not nearly as quick as player side Mind Stab.
I’ve also noticed that when you interrupt them during this cast, it breaks their pose, damages them, and along with the numbers indicating damage done, you can clearly see the word “interupt” above the targets head.
..but the Mind Stab attack continues to execute anyway.

I know this is a bit of a nit-pick, but if their Mind Stab attack is not supposed to be something we can interrupt, maybe remove the marker that says they were interrupted?
Or if we can interrupt them, then having the interrupt actually work would be nice.

You don’t have to do the story on more than one character in order to access any one of the new zones. You can buy a port scroll for each zone for 1000UM and 50silver each. Trade it around via bank or drop it into an open shared account slot and you can use any character you like to look around the zone.
edit for clarification: There is one port scroll per zone, and they are specific to each zone.

Leather Farm

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Neural.1824

Neural.1824

That’s a rather cherry-picked conclusion. I could as easily conclude that it’s as if the developers at Anet completely understand how their RNG loot system works. The way you present your post, it seems you believe that the system works badly and that Anet can’t see that. You completely excluded the idea that it works exactly as Anet intends it to and that you’re idea of what is bad or good doesn’t really play into how Anet designs the game.

Read it again, the whole thing.

They just put in and entire area in a new map as a supposed answer to fixing the price issue with leather, and through implementation of the RNG system they supposedly understand, they killed the purpose of it.

It’s entirely possible that they do know how it works, but if that is true, then the whole story that this is some sort of “leather farm” is a facade put up to give players the impression that Anet is providing a solution to the problem, when all they are doing is adding another source where players won’t get what they are after.

As has been stated before, people have spent an hour there and only gotten a very unimpressive amount of T6 leather, which will result in players saying “never mind” and going back to Silverwastes or whatever pops up to replace the AB multi-loot. They’ll go back to simply making gold in one of the far more efficient ways, and buy the leather outright.

The end result is leather prices stay the same, and this brand new area that took who knows how many hours for devs to develop, will remain a place where people only go to grab the two points of interest for zone completion.

Leather Farm

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Neural.1824

Neural.1824

GW2 is approaching the 5 year mark (this summer). The entire team has delivered many episodes of the Living Story and an expansion. Yet some things seem no better than years back.
It is as if the developers at Anet do not understand how their own RNG encumbered loot system works.
If you lock something like leather behind RNG and expect players to take advantage of it…. the results are going to go wrong in all number of ways.
If the players jump on it and farm farm farm… sure, T6 leather might come down in price, but there is going to be a glut of all the other tier types, knocking them down to vendor prices (which they made drastic changes to avoid..that caused the T6 problem, because the drops are RNG based…and.. yeah.)
If the players don’t jump on it and farm, it doesn’t fix the problem the players had in the first place, and you’ve wasted a ton of dev time, on top of making yourselves look foolish to the players that want a change.
This is the folly of using RNG as a way of making things scarce.
Take Skittles as an example. Players are getting Skittles dumped into a huge bowl (TP), but only the red ones are desired (not being a Skittle-ist, just an example here).
So what does Anet do? Well, whomever it is that makes the decisions has decided that the only way to give the players more red Skittles….is to add another source of… more random Skittles. The bowl simply gets even more full, and red Skittles are just as uncommon. No-one is going to go rushing to the new source to waste their time and energy to obtain a scant amount of red ones when the rate is no different from anywhere else in game.

In the long run, I find it impossible to believe that Mike, John, and the others didn’t seed this. The “leather farm” is just more of the same things: Scarcity and RNG. They merely packaged it in a manner that made it sound like it had more red Skittles.

On a similar note, as more evidence, the new achievement that was added which requires an event to fail. They have known for 2 years at least that this causes player hostility and toxicity in the community, yet here we are again.. they are doing the same old thing, regardless of how many times the players have told them it is a problem.

Again, they aren’t stupid. They don’t ignore the forums. So the only conclusion I can come to here, in both the above situations, is that they simply do not care to change their methods, and it’s all just theater to keep the players playing and paying.

Leather Farm

Neural.1824

The farm is fizzling out before it even got started. The “low” prices of leather (due in part to the announcement of the farm), coupled with the rather tame drops (from the farm) just isn’t holding players’ interests. U net approximately 3-4 gold worth of leather from an hour of farming ; general opinion is that it ain’t worth the time.

I predicted not long after the announcement was made that the new “leather farm” would still be RNG based and that the lack of having a sure source for a given tier material would simply cause players to go “meh” and move on.

T6 leather is not a guaranteed drop. T2, T3, and T4 are the next in line when it comes to overall price, but if people were to use the leather farm to get T6 leather, we’d be back to seeing the lower tiers at vendor level before T6 was brought down at all.

Official Feedback Thread: Episode 4 -- Head of the Snake

Feedback:
The story was good. I came out of it with new ideas and new suspicions, and it was very entertaining.
The new zone however leaves a lot to be desired. Once you finish the story, there is almost no reason at all to ever go back into Lake Doric. Normally I would follow up the story with doing the renown hearts, and zone completion, except that 2 of the Points of Interest, as well as what appears to be one vista and one mastery point are all inaccessible solo unless you are on a class that has lengthy stealth skills.
The mobs in Lake Doric are almost all cut and paste from Bloodstone Fen. Frankly, a lot of this “new” zone is cut and paste. They didn’t even bother to change the voice acting for the training area on the south west side. It’s just a replication of Claypool in Queensdale.
If exploration of the new zone followed the mechanics of other living story zones (i.o.w. NOT the Heart of Thorns zones), I’d spend a lot of time going through the 15+ characters I have and completing it on each one, but since “challenging group content” has taken precedence over exploration… well.. nothing to be done anymore.
Bloodstone Fen was good. Ember Bay was amazing. Bitterfrost Frontier was challenging but a lot of fun.
Lake Doric? Nope.

I fully agree Behellagh, they overcompensated again. I think that changing the amount required for refining anything is probably the worst thing they can do.

It depends on what else they do on top of the refinement changes. That’s been the problem with Anet all along. They use a sledgehammer to fine tune things.
One area where they seemed to get it right with this method was Soft Wood. Soft Wood logs were really expensive for a while because a single plank required 4, now that has been reduced, and the price has gone down, but they are still at a healthy spot (not too expensive for their level, and not vendor value).

I really hope the map doesn’t die out because of this. I can already picture the event being less occupied once the patch releases. Maybe a few runs to test it out to see how it is after the change, but probably not much after that.

The majority will simply move to the next most profitable spot unless a new map is introduced. In which case the newest map will be busy for weeks, until people have the newest trinkets to show off, and will then go back to farming the next most profitable spot. This is what happens when you run your entire game on principle of scarcity.

It’s more of a personal choice, I believe.

1) we have been posting those report for years now. In fact, as they doubled their income and such, they didn’t delete those post. why?
2)We don’t care about other games. so stop talking about it. don’t compare nut and apple.
3)They didn’t improve anything:
-less communication
-only improving pve and calling this game competitive game
-class balance in pvp is still kitten
-Good Dev seems to have left the company.
4) People already stated, they don’t want outfit they want armor.
What did the Boss said? armor take too long to be made.
So they don’t care really about the customers’ wishes

common sense tells me that if they create more armor skins for gem store, then we get less armor skins for in-game, simple. PVP has improved about 100x, balance is pretty kitten good. you still get wrecked? sorry to hear that. Good devs left the company???? and you got this info from where?

I strongly suspect you are better trying to get the API team to add this (if it doesn’t already exist) so that third party websites can fill this niche.

It’s probably not something significant enough to extend the in-game UI for, because full completion of everything isn’t really a core goal the team seem to want to push players toward. (and, I think for most players, that is probably the right call, too.)

Core map completion has it’s rewards, and I’m not arguing for change on those, it’s fine as it is.
What I have is simply a QoL request.
I’d like to see an additional percentage bar that shows global map completion (not just original zones, but inclusive of new zones as well). Obviously this would be dynamic because Anet is adding new maps. It would exclude Guild Halls.
Again, it doesn’t need a reward, as it would cause all sorts of issues as new maps keep getting added.
Similar to how dyes are shown as “locked” if you don’t have them, this is mostly a cosmetic thing, so it’s obviously not high priority, but it would be a nice addition.

This. Guild Wars 2 is not a collector friendly game, and it would be good for people to learn this. The only people who can have a complete collection are the ones who have the thousands of dollars to dump into the game to outpace the ridiculous RNG.

I had aspirations at one point to collect all the longbow skins, but have come across at least 2 that are no longer obtainable, so I stopped bothring (I have about 20 black lion skins missing as well, which is a few thousand gold I won’t have to worry about spending).

You can preview all dyes in-game by checking ‘show locked’ in the dye menu. So if anyone wanted to see how it compares to other black dyes they can do that before buying it.

Meh, I will never understand this obsession with black dyes, they are so boring.

It depends what you do with them. I agree it’s boring if you just dye your whole outfit black (and I say that as someone who often wears all black in real life), but if you use them with other dyes it can look really good.

Agree. I need to get a true black to go with my orange for Halloween.

Do you really need a blacker black than the ones available in-game, though? That’s kinda what I’m talking about here, that it’s already at the point you can use black dye that makes the armor featureless…

I guess the next step is a “black hole” costume to match the cosmic gathering tools, so we end up with this black void wandering around, occasionally popping out this galaxy to eat an ore node…

That’s a good point. I do think we want to remain in the Tyrian galaxy and not one far, far away.

You see? This is where ANet should leap in to the dye market. True black dye that turns you into a featureless blob that wipes out every detail of your char and its armor would be eagerly sought after.

After that, Invisible dye! Use the Invisible dye to not only wipe out your armor but the body underneath the armor. Using it on a set of armor would cause the char to be completely invisible. They could be seen as only a set of wings and a harvesting tool wandering across the landscape.

That would be coool.

It would be nice to have a “grid” option for the character icons, where the vertical space on the screen is used (not by default) to show as many characters as possible without changing the portrait size.
I’d like to see a mouse-over on the crafting professions as well that indicates what level that character is at with a given craft.
Some people have requested that the selected character display also show equipped weapons.

Patches are the worst addition to this game for armor crafting. Before we just had to make the Insignia, now we need 5 patches per insignia…that’s ridiculous.

I agree. The patches were a horrible addition to the crafting system in this game.

The patches were not that bad as ideas go, it’s just their requirements that are off the charts. Anet had a leather problem, and decided to fix it, but instead of making small adjustments, they just went “YOLO!” and threw everything at it all at once. Result: Anet has a leather problem.
They should have done things in phases to see how the players and economy reacted. Start with increasing the T5 refining amounts, and then see what happens. Then, if things haven’t changed a few months later, add in patches with lower quantity requirements.

But no, they had to do all the things, all at once.

It’s just crazy, and waiting for ArenaNet to address a global issues like that seems like taking forever. One really has to wonder where their priorities lie.

Or, they could just remove the cap on how much the eater can consume… That’d give us all the sink we’d ever need…

This, a thousand times this.

The cap is stupid, and needs to be removed. Doing so will not cause some catastrophic failure of the economy, it will simply take the bump, and then move on.

Having a note about it in the level 1 tutorials would be just fine, but definite “no” on making it a default.

Universal Gobbler

I like the idea but many wont as it give Anet a direct and visible way of controlling the market, which is against their (anets) design (they always mention the player driven market as a selling point)

Players still drive the market, even with the gobbler. Using it is a gamble anyway. The standard return would be, in the barbed thorns example, 35 to 40silver input, with only 5s or so return. Players still have control in that they can choose not to use the gobbler for that time period.

from a players stand point it destroys the market investment (why invest in an item when anet could break your profit at any point).

I think you got that backwards. This would encourage people to invest in low cost items. If you invested in 1000 barbed thorns right now at 18c, and then anet introduced this gobbler and had it set to barbed thorns, the price on the TP is going to go up, not down.

This item affects the “player driven market” no more than any other similar sink (have you ever gambled ectoplasm? no different than this). The long term benefit is, as others have stated, “soft” balancing. Anet has needed a bit more finesse in their balancing act as it is (see: leather).

I see your point OP, and I can sympathize, but I think there are a lot of people between 0 and 400 on Scribe that would like a word.

Universal Gobbler

We have gobblers for ascended material (a few different ones), and if I recall there’s one for karma?

My idea is this: A Universal Gobbler that is coded on Anet’s side to allow them to easily change what the thing eats. Still outputs an item like other gobblers that double-clicks into a piece of armor/weapon, a crafting mat, and a junk item.

Why/how it would be useful: This would allow Anet to do soft-balancing on certain materials where there may be so many on the market that they are practically vendor value, or items that are account bound that pile up (Airship Maintenance Oil anyone?)

An example would be: Tuesday hits and users log into find out that the universal gobbler is interested in consuming Barbed Thorns (currently at around 18c with a supply of 3million+). Players could then put 4 or 5 stacks of Barbed Thorns into their inventory, and the gobbler would consume them and spit out a bag of some sort.

A stack of thorns is currently 38.25silver, and, at least in my experience, the output of the gobbler bags is usually around 5 to 8 silver worth of material, with the occasional surprise.

Let’s say that a week later, Barbed Thorns are around a silver a piece, because so many have been eaten. Anet could then switch the gobblers desires to something like Airship Maintenance Oil, or Tiny Totems, or whatever they determine could use some supply reduction. It could include the entire range. Crafting mats, essence of luck, account bound items, and so on, but only one item type consumed.

I’m no lore person, so this is probably completely wrong, but a backstory idea for it might be something like “hey boss! remember that chak organ? It doesn’t just consume magic!”… and let it go from there.

2017-Hopes and Speculations [Long Post]

What I’d like for 2017:
-bug-free and polished Precursor collections
-removal of fail/succeed requirements for collection items (reward collection item either way, or make them all require successful event AND balance loot such that letting the event fail is a bad choice.
-Addition of Tyrian Mastery Points that are not locked behind gemstore content. I didn’t know this was a thing until I started playing more seriously on my 2nd account, and I think it is just wrong to do that to people who are newer to the game.
-New, additional, source for Mystic Coins.
-Expansion
-various other items.

What I figure will probably happen:
-More and more items being crammed into gambling boxes (BL Chests)
-Reduction in adding skins that can be obtained through actual game play
-More inaction on the economy, because hoarders.
-More gem store bundles that cost $20+ and contain one highly desire-able item that would normally be 800gems, along with a whole lot of trash that few want.
-and above all else, more inconsistency.

Also it’s effectively impossible to fail and is highly rewarding already.

It wasn’t until this past week that I learned this. Not sure if it’s new or not, but I got into an instance that had zero Dolyaks left (at round 2 no less). I was bored, so I stuck around and just started building siege. Much to my surprise, we completed all the rounds and got the loot. I think the only thing that we didn’t get was the present drop at the end of each round.

As for “you don’t have to do it”, that concept may not be flawed but it is horribly weak. No-one has to do anything. We don’t even have to play. Anet doesn’t have to make a game.
