Disappointed with ingame attitudes

The solution is to adjust the event so that it provides adequate rewards in all stages, so that people don’t want to lose that territory to the centaurs or what-have-you.

Using Hirathi Hinterlands as an example: If the Centaurs hold the lands, the objective is to take them back, with a champion or two at the final stage that potentially drop super-rare loot type x.
Once the lands have been taken back for the Seraph (by the players), some sort of other, more difficult, set of dynamic events takes place (this would have to be creative as you don’t have mobs to take out). This event potentially drops super-rare loot type y.
If the seraph hold the land 100% for more than z amount of time, the potential loot type changes. (time unlocks better loot). However, the same applies for the loot dropped by the Hirathi events.
The idea here is to make it more valuable to hold the lands for the Seraph for extended amounts of time, while still providing players something to do in that region which fills hearts and exploration quotas.

To not go completely off topic: OP, I think you’re going to find attitude issues in any MMO. Most people are happy to remain anonymous in games, but a subset of them like to be kittens because it protects them from taking responsibility for their actions.

What’s even more fun is that Anet expects you to report them on the spot, and tends to get a bit testy when you e-mail them screenshots.
Best thing you can do is go bot hunting, and learn to very quickly click on them, right click their portrait, and click “report”. If you don’t hit “report” by the time they teleport out, you can’t report them.

So... Why can't I combine stacks?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Neural.1824

Neural.1824

I’ve wondered about this as well. The only reason I can see this being as it is, would be to cause harvesting tools to take up more inventory space, thereby “encouraging” players to A. buy gems to buy bigger inventory bags, or B. pay for using a waypoint to a spot where players would then buy replacement tools.

If A. is true, I find it quite scary that Anet is that desperate for money. If B. is it, it’s still kinda creepy that they are wanting players to spend silver that badly.

At the very least it would be nice to stack up to 199, so that a new stack could be combined with one that is in use.

It should surprise me that people are so desperate to win a virtual game, but then my experience in Eve showed me that people will do anything for even the smallest advantage.

I appreciate the advice.
I do dodge and move, just probably not as much as I should I guess. It makes sense that in PvP just strafing and moving can help decrease damage.

As for exotics, I should be able to afford the exotic armor set from Orr. I’ve been saving karma jugs (from map completiones, etc.) off of 7characters for just such an occasion.

I will look into he GS as a weapon for my warrior. I tried dual axe, which some people have suggested, but I suppose I’m being a little stubborn with the hammer thing. I went from 0 to 80 with the hammer, was just hoping that there was a way to avoid getting rid of it. I enjoy the crowd control aspect, but it would seem this may be one of the areas that is causing problems with my perception on how the character should function.

Thanks again.

Neural.1824

I’ve been playing GW2 since October 2012, and while I’ve got some characters at level 80, I’m still quite clearly a new person to how it all works.

On one hand, this is good. It should tell brand new people that you can blunder your way to level 80, which is just about what I did (note: crafting helps a lot)

What I’m trying to improve now is my overall game play. I am not viable in dungeons and fractals due to some limitations which I need help getting around. I also have questions about WvW.

First, my overall gameplay and PvE/dungeons/fractals.
I haven’t had the gold to spring for exotic armor and weapons yet on my two level 80 characters, but I noticed well before I hit level 80 that there was a problem with both of them (one is a bow/bow ranger, the other is a hammer/rifle warrior).
The problem I’m seeing is that it seems to take me twice as long to kill an appropriate level creature as it does for others. With my warrior, I feel like I take more damage than I should as well. With my ranger, it’s likely just because I’m good at kiting and switching out pets.
What sort of problem areas should I look for with the characters or my play style to try and figure out where these issues come from?

As for WvW, the above problems tend to roll into that, but the primary result is that I’m more useful at a mortar or treb than I am at the front lines. I die quite quickly. Again, in those rare 1v1 fights, I’ve always lost feeling like I was doing no damage at all. The class of the opponent didn’t seem to matter, as there have been a number I’ve gone against.
What playstyle skills are the most important to dealing with small PvP group fights? Using skills in specific sequences? Ability to move/dodge really well? (if the answer is “all of them”, then what should I start with practicing?)

No More New Currencies for New Rewards

Why are so many currencies needed anyway? Especially with no exchange rate. I understand that having a currency like Karma which cannot necessarily be purchased with real money is important, because it allows for certain things to be segregated into groups that require certain accomplishments, but to have so many?

Seems like more trouble than it’s worth. They are creating a tangled network of interwoven threads connecting various currencies to item types and so on. The players may not see the effect of it, but it could get down right ugly on the coding side if they decide to make major changes in the future. :/

This way when nobody playing on lower tiers anymore Anet can just shut down or merge the rest of lower tiers servers —> less maintenance cost

Ok, im willing to accept my infractions now for telling the truth dear Anet

I’m going with this one. It’s in the same thread as the guild missions they just added.

I need to do dailys and monthlies, without skipping a single one, for 16 months in order to get two for each of my characters.

Doesn’t that seem just a LITTLE excessive?

I have 11 characters total and all the professions at 80 except necro and engi. The addition of vertical progression has put a definite damper on my enjoyment of alts. It doesn’t take a lot of intellectual horsepower to realize you won’t be able to move all of them along the power curve. GW2 has become a game where one main and zero alts is really the only character composition that is feasible. While I have enjoyed playing my characters, I truly feel like my purchase of the additional slots was a waste of money.

If a large number of new players start to see this, Anet will see a drop off in character slot purchases (read: real money income) and promptly change things to resolve that. So there is hope.

New Guild System Leaves out Small Guilds

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Neural.1824

Neural.1824

I’ve seen this everywhere. The devs royally, and totally, screwed themselves.
Ascended items need to be available in a timely manner (less than a week for any single peice of gear) to SOLO players.
Guild advancements? They need to be available for the small guilds with only 2-3 people (honestly guilds should be penalized for zerging things, not rewarded, after all the game is supposed to be about skill right? These guild missions should be locked to 2 people max limits not 10+, give the skilled people the goods, not the mindless zerg).
“Available” does not mean …oh they can get it in a few months… it should be obtainable, without farming, under a month.

This game is turning into your typical asian grinder here rather quickly. Skill is being absolutely ignored. Releasign a guild update that requires small guilds to buy influence? Bad bad bad idea. You’ve just created so much hate for your studio witht his move.

Incredibly large tip Anet…cater to the 5-10 people guilds…the zerg guilds leave game fast, they are NOT loyal to a company in any way-shape-or form. They chew through content and don’t return. Make everything for the small guild. These people hang around, and anythign they can do the zergs can do.

I’m part of a small guild and pretty much stick to PvE with a little WvW, but I have to disagree with you on the issue of Ascended items. A shorter time period may be in order, but not less than a week. Currently some ascended items (if I understand how it works correctly) are available to the solo casual PvE player in around 30 days if you do your daily quests. Then you have the ability to buy an item or two with Laurels. Other rewards should be achievable in that time frame so it isn’t just a grind though. I personally don’t mind a bit of a challenge to get something like that, unfortunately that still gets back to grinding.
I do agree very much that GW2 seems to be quickly turning into a f2p grinder.
Generally when I look at something Anet is doing that people don’t like, I first ask the question “Can this change be marketed to investors as a way to increase gem store purchases?” From there the pieces fall into place rather quick.

Just like guild missions. Someone at Anet probably has the idea in their head that if they make AoW V required to do guild missions, that small guilds won’t quit, they’ll just fork over real cash for influence.

Stop showing the zergs love!

in WvW

Neural.1824

What I suggest is lets make it less fun for people to run in a giant tunbleweed fashion across the map.

Step 1: Show zergs on the map
Step 2: Give trebuchets and mortars a long range, very quick reload, high damage round that siege weapons and structures are immune to. Or make a buildable mortar, like catapults, and require only a couple people’s worth of supplies.
Step 3: Zergs become a lot less fun (unless you’re the one with the mortar).

WvW won't become what we hoped it would

WARNING: LONG POST, but worth it. see TL;DR for major points

TL;DR:

1. Commander is an absolute mess
2. The roles/rewards/recognition of Guilds in a game called ‘Guild Wars’ is lacking
3. WvW has devolved into ZvZ (ZergvZerg)
4. The lack of Rewards/Progression/Depth/Consequence
5. The devs, their implementation of and lack of commitment to Wvw

I thought the commander tag was a great idea until I learned it was pretty much a gem-store trinket.
If they were serious about commanders, there would be requirements, as people have said. The ability to lead needs a track record of success, but also a show of support. We already “represent” our guilds in the game, it would be nice to have an option to “represent” a given individual who we feel is a qualified commander. The more people who support you, the faster you can obtain the commander tag.

I agree with #2 a lot. It would be nice if there was more than a pretty flag to fly if your guild achieved an objective in WvW. For starters, the servers are already listed based on their WvW performance. Why not do the same for guilds? Most objectives of x type taken, most kills, etc. Rewards would be great if they could benefit all guild sizes. My guild is 3 people (fear us!). We aren’t big enough to zerg, we’re primarily PvE players, and by most standards we aren’t “uber” enough to be recognized. It would be nice if the solo/small-group types could get recognition for things like taking out control points. Take the control point, your logo goes on the banner, and throw in +1% guild influence for 15minutes or something.

Just some thoughts from a WvW noob. I was wondering if it was just being new that had me wondering about these things, but seeing a number of the replies, plus the original post, it’s nice to know I’m not just imagining things.

tl;dr – WvW can be fun for everyone.
____

First off, it is a well known fact among my guild and many friends that if anyone is at the bottom of the list in regards to PvP, it’s me. In fact, for the face to face, mele type PvP, I would probably best help my server in WvW by joining the enemy’s server.
That being said, I have to say hats off to Arenanet for adding things like cannons, trebuchets, and so on. It gives people such as myself a chance to help out in WvW without having to spend 80% of the time running from a waypoint back to where the action is. Using a trebuchet to knock out walls so people can swarm in and take over is a lot of fun, and for once my own team doesn’t seem to complain about my skills (or lack of).
Same thing goes for cannons when defending a site. Out of the total kills I have, the majority of them are with a cannon (the rest are generally luck while button mashing in a zerg clash).
Overall it’s nice to feel like I’m more than just another body to rez on the field.
I usually stick with PvE in MMO’s, but WvW is some of the best fun I’ve had in an MMO.

Loot Dro kitten ue Confirmed: Feedback Thread

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Neural.1824

Neural.1824

I personally would like to see three things come out from this.

  1. an apology to the players who were accused of having an overactive imagination and “perceiving” the loot issue, and being accused of concocting an xfiles conspiracy theory.
  2. a direct method of purchasing T6 materials from a karma/laurel vendor (materials like Powerful Bloods, Gossamer Scraps, Onyx Lodestones) that are so rare they might as well be antimatter.
  3. the permanent removal of DR until the bugs in it and the dial that has it turned up so high can be properly adjusted so that it no longer affects players, along with the destruction of the mechanic that requires that people teleport to not get hit by it because that clearly only benefits the bots with the illegal gold-farming teleport software.

One can hope.

1) It would be nice.

2) Not going to happen. This is a source of income for Anet because people buy gems to get gold to buy these items.

3) See 2.

My guess is that Anet’s plan was to introduce DR in November, then let the playerbase that was current at that time fuss about it all. Throw them a cookie (like this last announcement) then let the rest of it go because the influx of new players since DR was introduced will never know what it was like pre-DR.
Newer players will spend money to buy gems, because they don’t know “how things were”.

I’m trying to get down to the details on the mechanics of lowering incoming dps through dodging (PvE).

After playing for several months, I’ve picked up on the obvious stuff, but I’m starting to wonder what I’m missing.

Is there more to dodging than just looking for visual cues and managing your energy so you can roll one way or the other?
Does moving and positioning yourself behind your target actually help, or do you have to “dodge” into that position?

The reason I ask is that I’ve noticed that there seems to be a sort of attack-aggro that happens. For example, a Centaur shoots an arrow at you. If you’ve evaded/rolled to the side, the arrow misses, but if you simply run to the side, the arrow tracks and hits you.
Does this decrease the damage though? Is there a benefit to staying in motion constantly?

Arenanet/NCSoft support has only given me off topic canned answers on my petitions regarding this. Please don’t be like them, and read my message thoroughly.

I’m posting in the “Players helping players” forum, because so far the official “help” has been anything but useful.

I have a warrior character that I’m working on story line quests with. I am currently completely stuck at “Forging the Pact” because every time I go into the quest, I get half way done, and then somewhere along the way the game stalls (but chat doesn’t) and I get disconnected. I’ve been playing for weeks on various days and weekends and have never had this issue.

Before people jump to conclusions ( a practice which official support seems really good at), this is not an issue of my computer specifically or connection.
The reason I say this is because I am not the only person that has been knocked out of this quest. One member that got booted out this way lives hundreds of miles away from me, and is on a different internet provider.

I have now tried 4 times today and yesterday to finish this stupid quest.

Is this quest broken? Is there some new server problem that I don’t know about?

Is there any chance at all I can just have the quest marked as “complete”? (I know, I’m dreaming, but I’d be willing to completely skip loot/XP/Rewards just to get this stupid thing out of the way).
