What happens to XP once you reach the maximum level on each mastery in a given region (Tyria vs. Maguuma)?

Even as a non-focused grinding type player, I’ve completed almost all my Tyrian mastery pieces through working on world completion on one of my characters.

Is XP simply worthless after that point?

Please Fix Ranged Attacks Obstructed

Targeting in GW2 has been, and continues to be a complete disaster.

“Target nearest” for example, simply doesn’t. Nearest non-aggresive non-aggroed mob that’s off in the distance? definitely. But that aggroed mob that is eating your face? not so much.
Obstructions happen right and left when there is a clear line of sight.
Tab is nothing but trouble. It is more likely to target a non-aggressive creature sitting nearby than it is to go to an aggressive mob.

However, I don’t think that the targeting of non-aggressive mobs is broken code as much as immature “pranking” of the players. It makes our characters look stupid, as if they would randomly suddenly decide, as pact commander, to randomly shoot a non-aggressive critter off to the side.

Has anyone with Pact Commander mastery maxed come across limits for how the auto-loot works as far as range?

If you do enough damage on a mob to get loot, but the battle moves you farther than say.. 1200 away from the mob before it dies, is it left there as usual, with sparkling effects?

If so, does it auto-loot when you get within range?

Raids = good, Timers = bad

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Neural.1824

Soft enrages come with a building tension and the possibility of clutch win. Players are gritting teeth and yelling “Go go go go!” into their mics, making desperation plays and sacrifices so the rest of the team might pull it off, while, numerically, the game is smugly continuing to amp up. “110% damage not enough for you? How about 120%? More damage, more!” until the party endures for a win or they can’t sustain and inevitably topple.
So, if the fight already has a compounding damage mechanic where the boss gains stacks of power when the players fail, let that be the limiter rather than an arbitrary timer.

This. Some will argue that you can have that “go go go!” moment with a timer, but there’s a difference between pulling off a kill at the last second vs. pulling off a kill a few seconds into an increased amount of damage. The latter feels fantastic, the former just feels cheap, and gimmicky (but that’s what Anet is good at unfortunately. They don’t seem to be able to survive without RNG and gimmicks).

Not sure if this is as of todays patch or not. I completed Carcharias a bit ago. I did have a couple instances where I needed to do the diving goggles more than once in order to get them to register, however the one in FGS registered the first time around. If you have the time, you might try it a few times, as it would be important to know if this is something that was working but is now broken.

The Dreamer was the first legendary I crafted, and while the whinnying was okay a while ago, the current sound setup is just embarrassing. It’s not that I don’t like it, but when I use the bow all I can think of is how annoying it must be for other people. As a result, it tends to spend more time in my inventory than in use, not because I don’t personally like it, but because I respect that other players are annoyed by it.
Much as I find it nice the way it is, there needs to be some change.
I do like, however, that it seems to stop making the whinny noise when in group battle. It’s more pronounced and audible when in low number combat situations. Not sure if it’s a sound bug or intentional, but at least it’s not making the noise 100% all the time.

Another bug in Frenzy Part 3: apart from 2 out of 16, the quaggan bracelets you need for the collection can’t be deleted from inventory… Delete attempt prompts you to enter the item name, but even with the exact name down to the casing, the ‘ok’ button stays greyed out. I now have 14 bag slots used by these…

This one is really irritating, and if their coding is worth anything remotely more than dirt, changing this should be little more than adding a ‘yes’ value along with a price to each of them. It’s not like it’s a bug that needs to be searched down, it’s a variable value.

Upcoming Fractal Changes

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Neural.1824

Neural.1824

A message from John Corpening and John Smith:

We’ve noticed some changes to ascended drop rates that are below what we were expecting.

See, this is what I don’t get about your development team. Why are ascended drop rates below what the developers (you!) expected? You developed the content, you programmed the rates, why would they be different than what you put in or anything other than what you 100% intended? Did someone on their own simply have complete control over fractal rates with no oversight? This design concept seems to run rampant among your developers and is most apparent when reviewing material storage, boxes that open into more boxes, zone-specific keys, etc. (it seems like your internal teams do not communicate changes well with each other, which is a poor reflection on management).

It’s deliberate and intentional obfuscation.

Unless they are using some system cooked up by the Mad King himself, drop rates are finite numbers that exist in the system as variables which they have complete control over. Making it sound like there was some result that was “Unexpected” is nothing but smoke and mirrors. The drop rates are what they set them to be. There was no “mistake” in the changes made. They took off and nuked it from orbit, and now want us to believe it was an “oopsies” moment.

Legendary Crafting Not Worth It...

The prices right now for Ascended materials have skyrocketed because everyone and their dog is crafting a precursor.

The price on things such as Spiritwood planks has not “skyrocketed”. It’s gone up, yes, but even using prices from two months ago, the OP’s comments still stand.
Also, precursor crafting isn’t the only thing to change that requires ascended mats. They aren’t coming down in price any time soon, and with Raids being introduced, it’ll only get worse. I highly doubt we’ll ever see these items drop below their current prices.

Since the beginning of the game there have been people trolling the forum with their snake-oil-salesman “one fix for everything” comment: just play the game. It’s a ruse. You can’t “just play the game” if you have specific goals in mind like mastery XP etc. The game is simply not designed that way. GW2 is specifically designed and detailed to give you two things: 1) Items that you really really want to have, and 2) so much difficulty in obtaining said items that you open your wallet and just buy gold through the gem store.
“just play the game” does not get you #1.

The idea of crafting a precursor was to remove the insane randomness of getting a drop…

Except that is exactly what is so infested into the precursor crafting system. RNG is again blocking people from completing their quests. I’ve been killing risen in Orr over the past few days, doing events, killing all levels of mobs, and have yet to get a black pearl. Others are doing the fight against Shatterer in hopes that they will randomly be chosen to be crystallized in order to get a token that way. Others still are waiting for RNGesus to bless them with whatever token they are on.

And that doesn’t even include the issues people are having with bugs and broken events.

At this point, I half expect to get The Lover as a drop before I get to actually craft it.

In crafting Tier I of “The Lover”, you are required to get the item “Love of Gardening”. The hint is: “Dropped by enemies guarding their gardens.”

Assuming that this is the same mechanics that some of the others in the thread here need, I was able to get this item by going to the grape garden in Fields of Ruin south of Ogre Road Waypoint.
There are two ogres guarding the grape garden there. They are just standard mobs, and very easy to deal with. Spawn rate isn’t real bad either, and I only had to kill around 3 of them before I got the token needed.

Overall there aren’t very many precursor collections that aren’t broken at one point or another. Really disappointing.

One of the biggest issues with precursor crafting is starting to overshadow the obscene gold sink, and that is the fact that very few of the precursors can actually be crafted right now. Quaggan Games event chain in Frostgorge Sound is bugged also, preventing the ability to get the friendship token from Twoloop Varonos Saszglop.

To reproduce the stall (as far as I can tell), you have to get through the chain to the point where you have to help Squilp find seaweed, while at the same time help Slishaa train.
Start by obtaining 1 unit of seaweed and giving it to Squilp, then go help Slishaa train. Once the Slishaa event is complete, go back and finish helping Squilp collect seaweed. Once this event finishes, Squilp will have his conversation with his friend, and the event stalls completely, making it impossible to get the friendship token.

New Guild Missions are bad

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Neural.1824

Neural.1824

I’m adding my voice to everyone else here. Anet have successfully taken something that wasn’t broken and fixed it into oblivion. It’s just terrible on every level. I get that Anet love and worpship the power of RNG but do we really need to rely on its rarely benevolent hand to decide what activities our guild is going to partake in each week?

Frankly the OP nailed it with what he said. Even if the missions weren’t bugged to the Underworld and back, the increased limitations and lack of choice for guilds would still make this awful. Especially lowering rewards for choosing a category of play that a guild may actually have built its community around.

Lord in heaven, stop it with the hamfisted attempts at social engineering and just let your playerbase play instead of punishing them for not doing what you want. I get it, you’re in love with the idea of esports but, Gretchen, stop trying to make esports happen. It’s not going to happen. Between the first week of missions “just happening” to “randomly” roll a straight set of PvP missions and the penalty to rewards for choosing one game mode it really does feel less like fun guild community time and more like Anet’s attempts to shove its playerbase where it doesn’t want to be.

+1 Well said and very accurate.

The new guild missions set up is the perfect example of “if it’s not broken, fix it ’til it is.”

Unrealistic Legendary Collections

Neural.1824

I don’t think the complaint is that they want it ‘easier’ per se. Or even that it takes less time. Just less rng.

Honestly, (for example) having to show up at every Shatterer event and praying to every god you can name that he 1)gets his crystalize attack off before we melt him and 2) that he randomly uses it on you specifically, isn’t what people were envisioning.

Having to travel to remote locations, sure.
Dance for a assorted monarchs, great.
Gather specific items for/from a very specific set of heart vendors, absolutely.

Sacrifice your first born to RNGesus? Not so much.

The fact that the situation with Shatterer even exists goes to show that Anet has learned absolutely nothing from all the feedback they’ve had over time.

I don’t mind mild RNG, such as having to kill 5 to 10 sharks for each of the sharks teeth required for the Tier I Carcharias collection. That is reasonable, but some of this other stuff is flat out insulting to the players.

“Precursor drop rate is set to 0.00000000000001% chance, and we know people are upset. We’ve heard your cries! Here’s a collection you can easily achieve. Oh, and this one part of it has a 0.0000000001% chance to happen.”

Legendary 'Journeys'....

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Neural.1824

Other than market demand (which is human driven), there is no difference between precursors of any type. They are exotic weapons. They are all the same level. Market demand is what originally created the price difference between weapons like The Legend vs. Rage.
While the grind is really irritating due to the overwhelming requirement for ascended mats in some of these recipes, what concerns me the most is that Arenanet is now price fixing.
No matter what happens now, The Legend will always have a minimum value on the TP of something around 800gold or so. Rage will always be around 50g or even lower.
If we ever get to fight Bubbles, and they do a massive underwater combat overhaul, then what? Everyone and their brother will have Frenzy, or Kamohoali’i Kotaki, etc.
The weapons are scarce right now because no-body wants them. The precursors are cheap because nobody wants them, but now, they will be cheap because Anet is forcing it to be that way.
I do not think this is a good idea at all.

For the record I went with a more insect/bug/arachnid theme on my main still waiting a mail/pick/scythe but at this point I don’t see why we don’t have a glider?
