To be honest, I feel betrayed. I’ve spent the better part of 3 years gathering the materials, throwing away crafted exotics and rares into the RNG pit and such for my legendary; failing at every turn and ready to walk away from the game forever.
I came back to the game with the promise that getting a precursor would be a journey and not be something else in the game attached to the gold standard pretty much anything else is. I got the $100 version of the game and translated 4,400 gems into gold to buy the T6 mats I still needed.
I expected a bunch of quests and kill X dudes that eventually got me account bound stuff that then let me make an account bound “The Legend”. But nope, it’s more time gated crafting and expensive material sinks.
I’m sorry you learned the hard way on this one. Arenanet isn’t going to make any changes that would affect the current transaction rates and prices on the Trading Post. You can fully expect to pay just as much gold to “craft” a precursor as you currently would to just buy one off the TP.
It’ll likely be less direct gold needed to get a precursor from the collections than buy off the TP. There will be a time element included which will bring the value of the collections in line with existing precursor prices.
Unless “less direct gold” is a good 40% of the overall cost, collections will not be worth it, because you can bet that the amount of time required to get everything done will be much longer than you would have to spend farming gold straight up.
I’ll be quite happy to eat crow and be wrong about this, but I seriously doubt there is anyway in which this new method will be remotely economical compared to the almighty cash-to-gold method.

Wow, such blatant trolling. Good work Behellagh.
Not trolling. Simply trying to establish a lightning rod where the inevitable complaints could go instead of the 30+ threads we normally get when a balance patch hits. Won’t catch all 30+ but it might draw in a few.
No, you’re trolling. Your post was written in a condescending insulting manner aimed at degrading people who have a different opinion from you. Your post was put in place to cause controversy and discord.
Wow, such blatant trolling. Good work Behellagh.
He gets a free pass from the mods.
People are overestimating the amount of gold required. The majority of the collections are about doing stuff rather than buying stuff.
Right, and what we’re sure to end up with, is a way to pay TP price for a precursor, but be required to do a whole lot more on top of it.
Anet may be introducing a “new way of obtaining precursors” but there is no way ever that they are going to risk damaging their golden calf (TP sales)
Here’s how it is gonna play out: A player that wants Howler isn’t gonna do the precursor quest for Howler. They will do it for whatever precursor is the most expensive that they personally don’t want or like. They will sell that and buy the pre for Howler and have leftover money to put towards their T6 mats etc.
I thought a little more about this and i dont think its neccessarily a bad thing because it brings precursor prices more in line.
Expensive ones get produced amd sold more often and cheaper ones get bought more from the tp.
Did they change something? I thought that these precursors obtained through crafting were supposed to be account bound?
Anyone that thought precursor/legendary crafting was gonna be easy or cheaper was/is delusional. Its gonna be a grind.
I wouldn’t really say it is much of a grind, based on what we have seen at least. It is plenty of work, sure. But it seems to be very little actual repetition and grinding.
It will be every bit of grind and repetition required to maximize the chance of someone giving up and just paying cash for gold to buy one off the TP.
DR was never about bots. Bots were the excuse used to implement farming punishment_
DR is about scarcity and pushing people to buy things through the TP, which promotes the possibility that they’ll open their wallets to buy gold
Guild Wars 1 has Diminishing Return, and no way to buy gold.
A hammer can be used to help build a house, or to destroy.
The former does not invalidate the latter.
It fasifies your post that DR is used to push people to use the trading post and buy gold, if it it used in a game without a trading post or gold selling.
(And did you forget how many bots this game had at launch?)
No, it doesn’t falsify it, it is irrelevant. GW1 was a different game, and, as I understand it, under mostly different people.
Just because it was used for one thing in GW1, doesn’t mean it doesn’t neatly fit the money-hungry agenda of GW2. If you have a tool that will do the job, use it.
If you don’t understand how Anet uses the “death by a thousand paper cuts” principle in their business model, there’s no point in explaining anything to you.

Minis are by far the biggest offender in this book.
So today we learn that Anet is not beyond childishly insulting their player-base.
Why not just put “nyah nyah nyah it’s not bunny ears” in the hover text with the horns?
LOL.
“Increased the drop rate of Black Lion Chests and Black Lion Chest Keys throughout the world.”
You do realize that +0.00000000000001% is technically an increase right?
For all the hype, for all the talk, and for all the times that HoT has been used as an excuse for not dealing with current problems, it is going to need to be the god of all expansions if Anet wants to survive it.
But can you imagine how fast this would have been resolved if the event was giving out too many rewards?
Players not getting loot = low priority
Players getting too much loot = PANIC!
They are right quick to fix things when it’s not in favor of the house.
Bugs are to be expected with new changes to code (whether they be events or whatever), but Anet sure hits them out of the park when it comes to bugs that are so bad that they cripple new content.
For all the “but we’re working HoT” commentary we get from them, HoT had better be pure polished gold.
I want them too… But not gonna spend 1000 gems for each :/
You won’t, but thousands of people will.
Anets mind games are woven relentlessly throughout the entire fabric of the game.
It’s a poorly designed renown heart. I needs to be adjusted.
+1 to the OP. These NPC’s added life to the scene before mega servers. They are no longer needed now.
Just a small suggestion for helping with organizing bank tabs and working with inventory and bank tabs.
Currently, if you are in the bank window, and you double-click on an item, it is automatically transferred to the first available bank slot.
Suggestion: If a bank tab is minimized, make the empty slots in that tab unavailable for double-click transfer.
So, if the top tab (tab 1) has 3 open slots, but is minimized, and you double-click an item to transfer it, it will instead automatically fill the first available slot in the next open tab (or not transfer at all, if no slots are open.
2. Map completion is strictly PvE due to PvE players complaining about having to go to WvW, a game mode they don’t like to get thier legendary while PvP and WvW players don’t have access to legendaries as we don’t enjoy PvE or are forced to grind through endless jumping puzzles on a norn and 10 fps….
“noob”? I doubt that.
I hate reflects, but I adapted.
It’s working as intended, and just fine as it is.
I pressed a couple buttons on the TP and got The Lover after about 3 hours.
Cost me about 470g at the time.
There are some basic rules about the types of weapons to throw in (level and rarity for example), and you can always throw in 4 of the same type to force the same type to be given back, but mostly what you need is good old fashioned luck, and lots of it.
Having more voice lines would be fun, but, as was pointed out, there have been instances where it gets to be a bit too much.
I would ask the player base (well, you guys, since this is the forums): What would be an acceptable compromise? Most have seen the complaints about NPC’s spouting the same voice lines every half minute or so, so what solution would work to keep that from becoming a problem with our own characters?
Yes, the item has been reintroduced to the Gem Store. I will pass along your input regarding the corrected outfit.
Honestly Gaile, there shouldn’t need to be player input regarding the issue of the legs simply being invisible above the thigh. Anyone in QA using a test server should have been able to see the transparency issue. If the test environment doesn’t display this issue, then there is one of the major problems in the first place. Discrepancies between the test are and live.
It’s not that the players are all running around looking up skirts, but all you have to do is go for a swim and you are presented with that angle and it becomes painfully obvious that there are issues.
The work done on this outfit is poorly done, and poorly executed. It’s not worth remotely what people are paying for it, and the player base deserves content that is at much better.
QA needs to do more than just a quick 360spin on the models and say “ok, ready to go”.
The new Lion’s Arch is absolutely stunning. A beautiful work of art and virtual architecture. The way the ocean theme runs throughout the main buildings was coordinated really well, and it’s hard not to think of the sea when you are there.
However, just like a beautiful sculpture, it’s value sort of stops once you step outside the realm of appreciating it as a piece of art.
Divinity’s Reach, Rata Sum, and other locations put all the functionality in a much better configuration.
In the long run, LA is a beauitful work of art, but it’s just that. Art. I highly doubt it will see the same level of use it once had. I remember LA being a busy place even before Mega Servers came about to make everything look busy.
I don’t mind running between the bank, crafting, and TP areas, but it would seem a number of people do.
Every time I’m in LA, it’s not more than a few minutes near the forge before someone pops a TP guy nearby.
But then, perhaps, that is the end goal for Arenanet, as it usually is. Give the players incentive to spend money for convenience.
Melee weapon = More dps, but more risky
Range weapon = Less dps, but less risky
Sound just perfect for me.
Only in a fantasy MMO.
The consensus I’ve seen on these forums seems to be that rangers who use ranged weapons (shortbow or longbow) automatically lack competence, intelligence, and, in the case of males, virility and the “bits” to go with it. Until this attitude is changed (which will never happen), the only two options are: Remove bows from the class, or leave it as is.
Doing the former would rocket the Ranger class to top ranks within a month, as the “manly men” would find ways to make it dominant as a melee class. The latter is easier for Anet to do since it doesn’t involve coding replacement weapons, which would use up a lot of resource time that could be put elsewhere.
Amazing how the griefers flock to these threads to defend their actions.
No, I am convinced that this decision (for at least a few of these animations that are taken out) is because of somebody who is obsessed with feminism and finds nearly everything that is not boring a bad reflection of females. The female walk was probably to execrated ‘as if all woman walk like that’ and the stretching animation was likely sexism because when the female stretches the breast are being pushed forward.
Careful. Speaking the truth like that will get you in trouble.
“Oh no. We can’t have you doing that!”
I miss the squeak sound when swinging a great sword !!!!!!!
We may be in a minority in this, but yes. I miss that as well. It was painfully cute on my mesmer.
+1 for cat ears. Bring back bunny ear headband as well.
They are no more immersion breaking than the SAB minis (or mini’s in general), or the fuzzy quaggan hats.
There is nothing else out there like GW2
(that’s why so many people still play it.)
Many regulars here know that an “accidental” nerf in ecto rate has happened before.
Fixed that for you.
So far this appears to be limited to Silverwastes, but it also seems to be worse since the recent patch.
The situation: I’ll be in the middle of fighting something, and even though potentially related dynamic events have not ended, the mob will simply vanish.
Most recently it was during a fight with a Teragrif attacking the Indigo pack bull at the 3rd spawn location. Bull was on screen a short distance away, doing it’s best to stand, and I was about half way through the health of the Teragrif, and it’s just vanished. I assumed that I had missed the bull dying and the event had timed out, but then noticed the bull getting up from being knocked down and then running onward to complete the event (complete with rewards).
This is not limited to Teragrifs either, but, so far, does seem to be limited to Modremoth’s minions and the Silverwastes zone.
The least they could do would be to teleport you back to the top of the puzzle when you die.
It used to do this.
Now they expect us to re-arrange our traits just to do a jumping puzzle? What next? Require an entirely different armor set?
The least they could do would be to refresh the quotes now and then by adding some new lines.
Nope.
Pretty much this.
Necroing this… it’s been 9 months. Can we get a fix now?
+1. This is a dumb move on Anet’s part to appease a tiny minority.
Your best option is to report and block them, but it’s best to understand that the “report” part is going to do absolutely nothing. Anet only jumps when it affects their income.
Again, not true.
I don’t see a red tag on your name.
Erm.. never claimed to have had one. I don’t even have a commander tag in-game.
Earlier in this thread if you care to scroll up in reply to someone else saying they never do anything:
They do, people come back from bans complaining of breaches of their ‘human right to free speech’ and post in the account support section of this forum complaining that they’ve been banned for things like ‘inappropriate language’
:)
Yes, and if you read what I said, my comment was that they don’t do anything unless it affects their bottom line. Like the video they had of what’s his name deleting a hackers toons. Anet’s hand was forced in that case because there was embarrassing footage on youtube showing just how out of hand things were getting.
Yeah, they ban people, but only when it reaches “red alert” level.
There’s a reason that reporting is looked at as a joke by so many users that have posted about it. Anet won’t even discuss their actions on a high level.
Coming out with a report and some charts saying “we banned x number of users for x reasons over the past year” or something similar would go a LONG way to rebuilding trust among the community.
edit: spalling and readability

Shadow Behemoth only comes out at night.
It’s really sad that nighttime is so bright that I never noticed this.
They need to give a buff to players that complete the pre-events and then make it so that ONLY buffed players can receive a reward from bosses.
This would create more problems than it would solve. Pre-events are standard mobs. Any group of 10 or more would wind up with people unable to get credit for doing them.
I tried the cheapest option twice for fun. Lost out both times, haven’t looked back.
I think, after a couple years of playing, that Anet would get much more longevity out of the voice acting if they’d put longer times between quotes from static NPC’s.
It keeps some level of newness to the game when you’ve been playing for a year and still you come across something that you’ve never seen or heard before.
The least they could do is make it happen a LOT less frequently.
Standing by one of the vendors, I heard “they say we’re headed into the heart of the Maguuma jungle. That thought gives me the chills” three times in succession. Then again just 10 seconds or so later.
With all the changes that have taken place with conditions, I’ve found that as a sub-par elementalist player I’ve been able to come up with a dagger/focus and dagger/dagger build that do decently well, in my opinion, in solo PvE. The take down time on single mobs is faster in some cases than my main (ranger). I know this is probably a poor way to judge a build, but that’s the limit on what I have.
Anyway, what I’d really like to know would be if it’s possible to do a Staff build that is viable in solo PvE now that we’ve had some condi changes.
I’ve run staff builds in the past (mostly zerker) and found that ..well.. it was just better to go back to d/d or d/f. In groups, where I’m not having to hold aggro, staff is great, but solo it’s been pretty bad.
So my question is: with the exception of ascended gear, is there a stat set and build that would make a viable solo PvE Staff elementalist that could be used by a non-pro player? (“non-pro” meaning that I’m by no means a hardcore player, but I do like to try and solo a champ here and there).
