Furthermore, your last point just doesn’t make sense. I highly doubt they spent all this time creating a system to craft precursors if they didn’t actually want people to USE the system. Not to mention the new precursors are account bound, so they cannot be bought.
The fact that the new ones are account bound is some of the best news I’ve read about the expansion. I despise that current legendaries are not account bound.
With the new ones being account bound, yes, it’s a great thing, and it makes them no longer a “legendary credit card purchase”, and I agree that having a path that does not involve grinding gold is a big deal. My main concern has been in regards to current legendaries, but for now will have to just sit back and see what Anet pulls out of their monetization hat.
I really hope that I read correctly in this info that we will be able to deliberately target obtaining specific materials, and that it includes the T6 mats.
I’m building Frenzy right now, and much as I ran into it with Dreamer, there always seems to be a couple T6 mats that just don’t drop as often as the others. I’ve had 250 Fangs for some time now, for example, but powerful blood, etc. are all still sub 100 in quantity.
I hope crafting the precursors are a grind and not something that can be completed in a matter of hours.
I hope that crafting the precursors isn’t a grind deliberately designed to make the player give up, grind gold, and buy off the TP (which is exactly what I suspect it will be).
As opposed to what? The current method of hoping for a drop, luck with the MF…or buying on the TP?
I don’t understand.
There is no point in crafting a precursor if the amount of time invested could be used elsewhere to grind gold to just buy a precursor.
Say for instance you need 800 gold to buy a precursor off the TP, and we’ll say that it takes 10 weeks of grinding gold to make that much (hypothetical here, I have no idea how long it does or doesn’t take to make 800gold).
If the new precursor crafting takes 18 weeks while doing similar activities, then it is stupid to go the new route. Just grind gold for 10 weeks and buy it off the TP.
Personally, from what I’ve seen with Anet, that is exactly what they’ll do. They’ll make the precursor grind so obscene that people will just default to farming gold or, as Anet really wants, opening their wallets to buy gold.
I hope crafting the precursors are a grind and not something that can be completed in a matter of hours.

As Don has already stated.
All they would then to do is “Message, block, unblock, repeat.”
And, as was also already stated: Anything additional to make it more tedious for the trolls is an improvement.
… There isn’t enough backlash from the community, yet, for them to backpedal on this new marketing stance.
Quite the opposite. The two days after the 24hour sale of the wings back piece should be more than enough evidence as to what the majority think about these 1 day sales.
As I’ve said before, while people may be vocal about such things on the forums, we are in the minority by a mind boggling amount.
I honestly don’t mind advertising a good product, the thing that irritates me is the pointlessly limited availability.
As mentioned before, it’s a the psychological impact of faux scarcity.
Anet could put the permanent airship pass in the gem store permanently, and maybe sell a small amount of them at 1000gems, or they can sell a bunch of them at 1000gems in a 1 day sale because it forces users to make a snap decision (which leads to more people coughing up the cash for gems).
Otherwise the rate of 1000gems is too high.
Arenanet is very underhanded with their gemstore. They will use any psychological tactics they can get their hands on in order to push more sales through.
Not to mention that it is near the end of the month, so this 1 day sale suddenly showing up is probably a push to meet forecast numbers.
A short reminder of whom we got to thank for it:
In this exciting and chaotic time, it’s easy to forget the hard lessons we’ve learned. We here at the Black Lion Trading Company would like to honor the memory of Lion’s Arch after Evon Gnashblade’s tragic failure to protect it from the dastardly Scarlet Briar. For this event, we’re bringing back a boatload of exciting items you can use to show your respect!
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/lions-arch-commemorative-sale/
Reality check. Had Evon won, the above would be what was posted on the front page.
+1. This would be a really nice QoL improvement to bring in.
Watchwork for the win. I haven’t bought any other type of unlimited gathering tool, waiting for when Anet gives us some more that drop aditional stuff. And no, not holding my breath xp.
Yeah, I’m pretty sure they realized that the Watchwork pick was a mistake. One that they won’t be repeating.
In fact, look at the frost gathering tools we got for Wintersday. Earnable in game, give bonus items, and limited uses. It shows what they learned, and I’d say they got it right that time.
That kinda went in the opposite direction though. Tiny Snowflakes are worthless now.
I’ve often gone into Salma district in DR and poked around the places within, wishing that just one of them would be my home. ...Especially since my characters parents are dead, it would be fitting for her to be able to go home and have a place where she has some sort of anchoring to her past still.
The different things you can add to your home instance are neat, and I have a few, but an actual home would be a nice place to have trophies and awards. Like a gold star on the mantle for world completion, or some scale or such representing some dragon kill.
Wow. That’s quite a tool. I think it might have been more attractive if the beam was aimed at the rock with minor movements though. The way the animation moves it upwards to where it misses the rock completely is a little disappointing and makes me not want to stand on the other side for sure.
I can only shake my head at all this …tripe.. from the OP.
Seriously. My main is zerker fit with 6/6/2/0/0 for the traits using both piercing and increased range.
There is a very good reason I don’t take this build into WvW or PvP. That extra range is only on paper. Anyone with half a brain can close that gap faster than you can finish Rapid Fire and swap weapons.
Frankly I think OP is simply trolling.
The small but loud group is comprised mostly of individuals who just hate rangers in general, regardless of whether or not they need to be nerfed. They believe that playing ranger is automatically equal to a lack of manhood, and there is no end to their efforts to see Rangers emasculated completely to the point that it is an unused profession.
Ranger’s don’t need to be nerfed any more, and there is nothing I would compromise on.
Just use a hard CC to stop the ranged attack.
This isn’t really viable when solo, unless you have a crazy amount of hard CC. It would also fail on the elites (whereas chill and cripple still work on champion teragriffs).
Alternating melee and ranged sounds the best plan.
Dual bow, Bow/GS, or bow/axes works just fine for Rangers.
Dual bow: On LB, attack at your discretion until he telegraphs his vine attack, then hit him with #4 (Point Blank) to interrupt him, continue attacking until he’s about to do it again, then swap to SB and hit him with #5 to interrupt him. continue until cooldown and swap to longbow and repeat. (note: this is solo play only, as melee folks tend to get upset when you knock things back).
Same with Bow/axes, only with the axes #4 tends to put him right on top of you.
You can do LB/GS as well. Longbow attack, hit with PBS when he telegraphs, swap to GS at the appropriate time fly in with #3 and then interrupt with #5. This also puts you into Melee, which you have pointed out.
With Veterans this is more difficult, but with the standard mobs your cooldowns are fast enough that you don’t have to deal much with his vine attacks.
A properly run test server will root out bugs, especially the blatantly obvious ones like the green downed state health bar, and so on.
Smaller things like a broken sigil or rune might slip through because you need a lot of people to figure that out, but really guys, stop making excuses for Arenanet on this one.
Interesting. I thought the counter play on these was to interrupt them.
Undocumented changes, especially things seen as nerfs, are doing nothing good for Arenanet. Sneaking around doing things behind the backs of the players does nothing to improve player/developer trust.
They have fooled themselves into thinking they can do this without any repercussions, but in the long run the playerbase simply will not trust them enough to be loyal players.
Dude chill, it’s not big part of the UI anyway. just ignore it if you are not intersted, many people including me do like e-sport. just calm down, also GW2 esport is not that bad, it’s just most people don’t give it a chance, it’s really entertaining.
Plenty of us prefer to play games rather than waste time watching other people do it. For us its just cluttering up our screens with garbage we’d like to get rid of.
They can announce that stuff on the launcher like everything else, keep it of the game.
It’s just for a short period of time , does it really bothers you that much? Also just because you don’t like watching tournament s, doesn’t mean others don’t want either. Again it’s not even that big, so if you are too bothered by it just play tomorrow and it will be gone.
Keep pretending in your world that this is just a short one-off thing. What it is, in reality, is a step towards cluttering the screen with all sorts of “news feed” garbage.
Once they see they can get away with it for an event that isn’t “that big”, they’ll do it for other things.
Please do not put things there without giving the option of turning them off. I couldn’t possibly care less about your e-sport obsession.
Outfits are just a sing of Anet’s mindset: Fast cash fast.
They don’t want to spend the time to make a polished game with armor that doesn’t clip, so they go the quick and dirty route and make entire outfits that can’t be split up into armor pieces.
 Who can blame them, they are making millions of dollars doing it. The game majority is comprised of people who don’t care or don’t know any better, and until they change their minds and close their wallets, we will continue to get the cheap and easy solutions.
Holy cow, that is one heck of a broad brush that you’re using in your sweeping generalizations. Who knew that you actually had an accurate handle on what the majority of players in this game think/feel. Is that just for the NA servers, or both EU and NA servers?
What brush. It’s pretty easy to see that is what is going on. Otherwise Anet would be doing something different.
If the majority are happy with outfits for one reason or another, there is no incentive whatever on Anets part to do something different. They are raking in cash.
Look at the wings. Love them or hate them, Anet made a kitten-ton of money in the 24hours they were available on the store. The majority was easy to see for the next couple days, because everyone and their brothers Mordrem Mini was wearing them.
If the majority are spending lots of real life cash, Anet isn’t going to change a thing.
Scarlet is eternal. Scarlet is forever. Scarlet is you. You are Scarlet.
Well that explains the voices…
Nope. It’ll be forever changed as part of their living world.
Kessex Hills might wind up different from what it used to look like, but that doesn’t mean it has to remain trashed. A living world does not have to be forever changed… it has to be forever changing. There’s no reason they can’t sweep the rubble aside in Kessex Hills, Lion’s Arch, and wherever Scarlet’s Probes were left lying around.
“Living” not only refers to change, but also to life. The world isn’t as “alive” if all that’s left is dead remains. I am all for sprucing up the place. I tend to avoid the ugly areas just because they’re, well… ugly. Especially if they were once dear to me. I don’t like seeing my favorite places lying in rubble. So the more they tear things up and not repair them, the smaller my world becomes.
Oop! Ack! Thpppt!!
One factor is time. Sooner or later nature tends to grow back and cover up the fresh wounds left by such destruction.

Well, there are people working 24/7 to fix Lion’s Arch, and it hasn’t changed much at all since they started. Kessex doesn’t even have anyone working on it.
Humor aside, it would be nice if the zones that Anet so recklessly decides to blow up would get updated once in a while. Otherwise, GW2 two years or so down the road will look more like a post apocalyptic genre game than a fantasy game if they keep destroying zone after zone.
They’ll fix this one ASAP for sure, just be patient.
I’m sure the developers are working as hard as they possibly can to fix it. Fixing bugs isn’t always the easiest task.
They could get a head start if they’d stop mucking with things that aren’t broken in the first place.
They’ve invented a new way to take up more inventory space and sell more bank slots. Gotta make those gem sale forecasts you know.
I haven’t seen any acknowledgement, nor do I expect any.
I’ve actually just started to be able to completely ignore the random character quotes as I’m running around. This is good, because that probably won’t be fixed any time soon.
It’s getting to the point that it’s embarrassing to tell others I play GW2
Bad point is that the old “Abyss” color has been lighten in this patch.
So “Abyss” is now just another “deep gray” and “Shadow Abyss” is exactly like the previous Abyss color was previously.
That sounds like a really cheap way to make cash with dye packs if true.
Does this surprise you?
Oh – so I am really doing less damage and have less health.
This is making life so much harder – I’m dying a lot more now than before when mapping.
I prefered it the way it was before – I didnt die as much (still died at places when mapping though).
Arenanet is obsessed with catering to a small but vocal group of “hardcore” players who think that every single XP point should be a 3 hour grueling battle in which you risk permanently losing everything you’ve earned so far in game.
I doubt this will get fixed. Too much potential for additional bank tab sales.
Oh look, this topic AGAIN.
It’s as if the other 20 or so threads the past 2 years don’t exist at all.
I want a Mini Young Karka
I would go with just blocking them. Harassment doesn’t affect the in game economy enough for Anet to do anything about it.
Just because pugs call themselves speedrunners it doesnt make them one.
It’s like me advertising for PvP queue with top10 while I played 1 match.
You still didn’t answer his question.
What is your definition of a speed run?
I get sad when someone ports out on me trying to rez them.
While I agree with your proposed suggestion, I have to say that if you rez me and I port out on you it’s likely because you should be focusing on the battle at hand and not spending valuable time rezzing dead players.
For non-timed fights this is not an issue, but for timed events like Teq or Vinewrath, it is crucial that dead waypoint out and not waste other players time.
A simple fix for this issue would be for Arenanet to implement event credit for rezzing dead players. There would be people who go to events specifically to “rescue” the dead at that point.
Also considering that dry top and silverwastes together are still smaller than even the starting zones, it could be 3 maps giving us less total area than frostgorge.
Yep. That’s exactly what I’m expecting. Overhype about a little bit of space.
…There’s no excuse for items like geodes, bandit crests, and tokens to be excluded from the wallet.
See my previous post.
Then there would be no point in even adding the wallet to begin with. If the excuse is <to clog inventory space so more inventory slots are sold> then they wouldn’t have made the wallet in the first place. I assume the real reason it hasn’t been changed is that the wallet was originally designed with the current 4×4 pattern, and changing it would require a ui redesign (and constantly adding a new currency every few patches would only make it messier). That said, even with this reason it doesn’t mean that they should just go and drop this feature without adding all these new currencies they keep introducing. The fact that Anet keeps adding great features/ideas, but rarely expands them or keeps them up to date is one of my least favorite things about this otherwise good company.
I see it as a balancing act on their part. Maintain pressure without overburdening the players. So we’ll likely see crests and geodes added to the wallet, and new currencies introduced to take up bank space.
Its right that many veterans use crafting to level their alts, which leads to alot of oversupply of some items, especially in the lower tiers, to there is no gold to be made with crafting.
However, items that are in demand at end game, can be crafted for profit.
Very few items are also timegated to ensure they have a daily crafting profit. However, unlike in most other mmos, wether you make a profit or not with crafting mostly relies on good trading, rather than collecting the ingredients yourself.
Prices for materials on the trading post fluctuate quite often for at least 20-30%, depending on the day of the week, time of day and new updates that brings the mayority of the population together and farm the same mats.So items that are profitable to craft today, wont be tomorrow but new profitable items will emerge because one of its ingredients just got cheap or there is a sudden demand for an item because its required to craft some new gear or item.
Trading in general has the highest gold/hour ratio from all activities in game but crafting can be very profitable as well, if youre really good. To be efficient in crafting, you need to be a good trader as well and it helps to have additional bank and bag space because alot of profit is being made with bulk crafting.
I think 50g profit per hour is a good rate for crafting.
I’ve been around a while, and for a good year or so I’ve read posts on the forum where you are constantly beating that drum, and after trying a good number of angles on crafting using the information you’ve given over the past year, I’ve come to the conclusion that you are misrepresenting the facts and/or omitting vital information. That or you are flat out exaggerating the results.
It is possible to make money via crafting, but I think a very big portion of that which you are leaving out involves a very healthy amount of knowledge of the trading post itself as well as trends. A new player or even a veteran interested in profiting via crafting can’t just pull up gw2spidy and wind up with 50g in an hours time. So please stop advertising it like it is.
…There’s no excuse for items like geodes, bandit crests, and tokens to be excluded from the wallet.
See my previous post.
It is probably to make sure that you “Feel like you’re getting something” as opposed to things going straight to the wallet, relatively unnoticed.
Not really, it’s all about clogging inventory space and “encouraging” players to buy more inventory space.
Dev 1: “STOP THE UPDATE! STOP EVERYTHING!”
Manager 1: “What?! Why? You know we have deadlines, this had better be good!”
Dev 1: “If we push this through, Norns will be able to do Troll’s End!”
Long pause…
Manager 1: “STOP THE UPDATE! STOP EVERYTHING!”
edit sorry, couldn’t resist with all the talk of camera changes and such. I do hope that they can get whatever is delaying things worked out soonl
Fixing targeting would go a long way to making this a great game. It is horrible right now, and more of a hindrance than an aide.
Players aren’t stupid, and our characters aren’t stupid. With the exception of a few outliers whose sanity I question, nobody in the middle of a battle goes “oh hey, instead of fighting the mobs that are killing me, I’ll just target this random non-aggressive mob and attack it.”.
If anything, mobs need to be prioritized by their immediate danger to the character, and have that only overridden by the status of the mob (i.e. champs still are easy to target).
As for the rest of the list, it’s pretty spot on. Anyone looking to buy this game should read the list and carefully look at it, and consider how long these glaring issues have been around.
If you want challenging content, you could try soloing dungeons (which is possible). Heck, solo them, and then sell the path for some gold before you kill the final boss.
Overall though you’ll find that GW2 is “multiplayer” in the social aspect of it. It’s about having fun with friends, not about gear grind.
If you want a grind for gear, get your crafting professions up to 500 and grind for and craft ascended gear. Or grind gold and skip the mat gathering by buying the things like bolts of Damask off the TP, then craft your ascended.
Overall the end game in GW2 is one of two things, the choice being yours completely.
1) Grind for gold to buy things you want.
2) Get involved socially and have fun doing whatever with your guild, friends, etc. High end goals might include becoming a successful and recognized commander (though this is generally WvW, it can be in PvE).
You set your own goals.
Right now I’m working on Frenzy (legendary speargun), and in the ascended realm I’m slowly building one each of the WupWup weapons because I like the skins.
Also, as a last thought, wait for Heart of Thorns to come out before you quit. Watch for the videos that come out of beta, decide if the content may be more to your liking, and then decide if you want to expand or quit.
People rage in PVP. I just block them if they start whispering me because they couldn’t handle dying.
From my experience it’s not the ones dying who have the attitude issues.
Collections in GW2 cover a wide variety of items. Some items are cheap on the order of just coppers, while others are hundreds of gold. With many of them, you have the option of skipping the gold and putting time into obtaining them, but this generally includes farming specific bosses, which is very time consuming.
Other collections are a bit simpler and are more scavenger hunts than anything, but they still have a money/time value for effort in obtaining the items.
I’d like to see more balance between the time/money invested into a collection and the rewards for said collections. Some collections have a very skewed ratio of time/money to reward. An example would be the Grawl Archaeological Study. Obtaining the weapons for this collection takes either quite a bit of time, or a good amount of gold, yet the reward is a simple rare with an essence of luck and a few obsidian shards.
Meanwhile the Jar collection, which is a scavenger hunt that requires accessing many locations on the map, rewards a 20 slot bag. 20 slot bags carry a decent gold value due to the cost of the rune that goes into them.
While I think the Jar collection is just fine, I’d like to see some of the rewards for the other collections increased.
This doesn’t mean precursors, or anything that extreme, but changing the rewards to include rare mini’s, or other collectable items would be far more rewarding than just a rare weapon, or a metabolic primer.
Example: For the Fine Wines collection, instead of having the focus “Courage” included in the collection items, make it the reward (and maybe make it’s stats more attractive). Same with the Brewmaster collection.
For the collections like the Grawl Archaeological Study, have the reward be a chest that contains a graw related exotic weapon, and a mini grawl, along with some assorted ascended crafting mats.
These are by no means perfect examples, but just thoughts on how to bring up the reward for the collections.
Finally, I’d love to see more basic collections where the money invested is roughly 10 to 50 gold (using current TP prices for whatever items might be in the collection), that reward either mini’s, home instance items (yes, I realize this means creating new things), or other things that would reward a player for spending that 50 gold, or for taking the time to locate/farm/obtain the items in the collection.
Yes, it would. If you block someone they should not be able to emote messages to you, see what map you are on, spam group invites to you or group up with you or have the game tell them when you log on or off. Since these problems have been known for years, either ANet can’t change the system or won’t.
Until ANet does fix it, the only thing you can do at this time is report them and update your report with each incident.
Bolded the key word here. Harassment doesn’t affect the economy, therefore it is of no concern to them.
The screenshots and in game reports are useful where you can’t get the bots name either because they are too fast or are unreportable because they are showing as dead. If you can get a name, then they want a report with the char’s name as it’s much more accurate. Say that you can’t get the name for a report and why in the ingame report if you have to use the screenshot method.
I explained that in my support messages when I sent them. I was still given a rude response telling me to use the in game report tool.
NO to nerfing mesmers, which is what this is really about.
