A dedicated space away from everything else would be fine.
Pro-duel fanatics will never agree to this. They crave two things: To feel superior, and to have an audience see them being superior.
They will not be happy until they can duel at the Trading Post, the Bank, or wherever else people might just be trying to get things done. They love a captive audience.
Wasn’t it Kessex Hills the other day?
It’s funny how the in game environment can amplify your RL environment in some situations.
Your comment regarding Southsun makes me wish we had a few more tropical island themed zones. lol
Well, it’s a silly thing. It’s easier to part with a lost bag if you know it doesn’t contain anything until you open it. If that makes sense.
I’m sorry, can someone point out to me the rulebook which says that a corporation must use the same exact business plan or method for every single one of their products?
Anet/NCSoft are simply capitalizing on the GW name.
Has Arenanet ever stated if your loot is rolled upon opening a chest, or if it’s rolled when the chest is created?
To put it more directly, if you die, and that champion chest is sitting right next to you, but is gone by the time you get back, was there really anything in it, or just the chance?
What a necro. I don’t understand why you people even bring this up again. It’s clearly been abandoned by the devs. Let it sink.
Complacency gets you nowhere.
It never gets anyone anywhere, yet that’s what’s happening to the feedback threads.
I think in this case I’m going to try and keep it going, even if I have to bump it, purely so it stays near the top as an irritant to Anet. Players will likely never change Anets mind on RNG, and in fact I think this thread was likely started as an amusement to the devs, but we need to keep this up just like the Cantha thread.
Of course, Anet will step in with their god-power and simply lock it when they are tired of seeing it.
I logged in to the game today to find “Point of No Return – All of Tyria is threatened” in the Welcome Screen announcements.
I take it we’re getting another Feature Patch on January 13th?
I thought it was funny.
What this “point of no return” is however, I’m concerned about. I’m hoping it is merely changes in lore. We DO NOT need to see yet another zone destroyed “to generate excitement”
I understand the logic of screwing over your loyal customers to make a fast buck. But screwing over your loyal customers in a way that will actively cut off a major source of advertisement and product appeal?
It’s short term hit-and-run style business planning. Get in, make as much money off the “suckers” as you can, then close up. I haven’t seen much evidence from anyone at Anet that they have any designs on being around for any length of time.
I hope you come back in five years and admit you’re wrong about that.
I hope I am, but do note that if GW2 is sold off to another company, I will consider that the same as simply shutting down. This entire game is a cash grab orchestrated by NCSoft. The best thing that could happen would be for Anet to be bought out by a company that wants to run an MMO, not a short term high yield investment scheme.

When you get piles of loot that you don’t want, but can’t give to your friend who wants it but can’t get it as drops.
And another thing or two.
I am sick and tired of hearing “sweet sweet loot” on absolute crap level items. The loot tables are simply loaded (and I mean “loaded” as in deliberately biased) with crap items. I don’t want to hear my character make some astonishing exclamation unless it’s really worth it. These days it’s no different from the random background NPC chatter.
And another thing. If RNG is soooo RNG, why is it that out of the 10 or so exotic weapons I’ve had drop in two years, that 4 of them have been Rockweed Spire? Hundreds of exotic weapons, and I get the exact same one almost 50% of the time.
Take it for what its worth. My wife and I spent yesterday in Silverwastes. I had a day off and it was crappy outside (decided to skip skiing for the day) and we decided why not grind out the items we need for the two new luminescent armor pieces. Literally stacks of keys used, dozens of breaches and between us, we got one – that’s right ONE – usable piece for those collections. We only stayed at it to see how long it would take for something to actually be worth a snot.
Also, between us we have several thousands of hours of play time. Neither of us has gotten a precursor drop or one from the forge.
RNG is a wall that prevents anyone from working towards a goal. We’re at the merci of other people’s luck and market demands (price) to get anything worth working for.
My wife and I have spent several. weekend days in Silverwastes with results that are equally as frustrating. She wants the carapace armor items. In all the hours we’ve spent playing, I’ve had 6 Carapace boot boxes drop, and one other carapace piece (can’t recall if it was shoulder or glove) drop. For her? It’s grind grind grind until you have enough stupid crests to go along with 1 gold to buy them.
This has brought up the severity of what happens when RNG gets tangled with account bound. I’ve got boxes piling up that I don’t care for, but she hasn’t had any drop at all, but because they are account bound, my only opinion is to destroy them.
Top of my list: Dreamer. I <3 that bow! (And The Lover isn’t bad, either.

Well hey, at least we agree on something.
sniped for brevity
Yes, that is part that concerns me, but I have to state my position as being very concerned about the whole process of the FS bringing things to the attention of Anet when it comes to suggestions, etc.
There are hundreds if not thousands of ideas that flow through this forum on how the game can be made better, and the sheer volume does show a need for condensing it, but I do not believe that having potentially biased non-employees doing the collating is the proper path.
Let’s take a non-issue example (something that has already been done): If there was a small group in the community that felt the game could be improved by removing the fees associated with armor repair, they would never have their voice heard if the reigning Forum Specialists had the whole “suck it up” attitude. They have no motivation what ever to say “hey Anet, while I categorically disagree with these people, I think they have a valid suggestion.”
*_edit: a side note. This whole Forum Specialist thing seems more like Arenanet is trying to avoid hiring more employees._

Hey dev peoples..
Would it be possible to have the default cursor focus set to the “search” text box on the wiki? Or is that something out of your control?
My experience with Razer has been suboptimal, with the middle mouse button ceasing to function after a period of about 8 months. Meanwhile, Logitech products have been solid.
Additionally, Logitech doesn’t used the cloud based garbage that Razer has set up with Synapse.
Many many people use alts as a workaround to this, which shows, in my opinion, that something should be done to improve the process. Unfortunately if Arenanet does anything about it, they’ll likely throw in some 1200gem item into the gem store that lets you have something in your home instance.
“The purpose of this program is to invite highly engaged community members to serve as volunteer “Forum Specialists” within their area of expertise. As specialists, these volunteers will answer questions in a player-to-player (unofficial) sense, flag posts in breach of the Forum Code of Conduct, and coalesce and transmit player feedback to the ArenaNet Forum Communications Team.”
In other words: they will be forum moderators sans the ability to take action, but you can darn well bet that once they say something, Anet will blindly take their word.
Anet seems to be trying to create their own version of Eve’s CSM, sans the yearly trips to Iceland, but they are going all in to give obscene amounts of power to individuals that no-one with a negative opinion of anything in the game can possibly trust to be unbiased.

NOOOO!
Don’t do it! It belongs in a museum!
I have a Transmutation stone and a Master trait book in my bank that I can’t find the heart to delete. It’s not that they are “from a better time” or anything, but they are like virtual antiques.
Bottom line of my thread is that programmers were lazy at our expense. And mind you they’re charging extra money for it.
Welcome to GW2
A QoL improvement that’s been on my mind recently is to revert some of the jumping puzzle death mechanics. Specifically I’m thinking of Weyandt’s Revenge (often called the Pirate Jumping Puzzle, or Sharkmaw).
Back when GW2 launched, if you died on the initial decent into the puzzle, when you clicked on any given waypoint, it would teleport you back to the top of the puzzle.
This has since been changed, and really seems to serve no purpose other than to irritate players when they need to run back to the start of the puzzle from the nearest waypoint.
Is it a huge problem? No. It’s a little irritation, but one of many that piles up.
I somehow got a very bad feeling about this specialist program…
It does not bode well for any forum to be giving special tags out when it is already so heavily fractured into divisive groups.
When “nearest target” is that random non-aggressive critter over there on the other side of the aggressive mob of monsters trying actively to kill you.
and..
When you use a knockback and the critter instantly teleports back to their previous position in your face.
- Named Moderators: Named moderators can put a more human face on the mod team, it’s true. However, using names — even generic names — can make individual moderators targets of forum member dissatisfaction. No matter how prudent and reasonable the decisions, you could see comments like, “Moderator A is reasonable, but every time Moderator B gets involved, too many threads are locked.” “Moderator M seems to be having a bad day.” “Fire Moderator X, s/he is ban-happy!” If a mod errs we want to address it. But in my experience (about 16 years in forum administration) allowing the focus to become “Moderator B actioned me” (instead of “I made an error and was actioned”) isn’t productive. It distracts from the actual function of the team, may make moderators uncomfortable in doing their job, and may serve as a form of attempted invalidation of very accurate decisions. (RW analogy: If a student can point to “my teacher was having a bad day,” then maybe s/he can avoid answering the real question of “How did you get a ‘D’ on your term paper?”
)
Honestly Gaile, if CCP (Eve Online) can make it work, it should be a breeze for Anet to do so. Their mods have names/faces, and they also have a system in place by which people can file complaints against given mods.
I think a lot of users would simply be happy to see more consistency in moderation, and not what appears to be favoritism towards people who are enamored with the game.
Doesn’t obtaining Eternity also unlock the skin use for Twilight and Sunrise? If that’s the case, there’s the added benefit of getting access to three legendary skins, not just one.

Register for an account on Reddit. Post there. Problem solved.
Would be nice if this was an accurate statement, but the same trolls and white knights run reddit like their personal playground. Anything they don’t like gets downvoted into oblivion before it has a chance to be seen.
It would be nice if small changes could be made here and there that show progress in the rebuilding, even if they are just temporary.
I suppose the main issue there is that users would basically be re-downloading the entire L.A. map with each patch where they made a change.
coments on magic find removal
But wait, don’t forget that magic find is still valid on some tiny sliver of a percentage of loot, therefore is still a valid game mechanic!
Part of the problem is that this method allows Anet to circumvent magic-find. So they user it everywhere
so two of my guild mates spent an hour and half grinding one area. they had one with the magic find buff from the pumpkin food (cant remember its name but it came from the Halloween event.) the one with out the buff got more items then the one with. and yes the one with had a magic find of 275 from the buffs while the other had 150 magic find. wondering if this is a fluke or if magic find from buffs is not working?
There is no way to actually prove that Magic Find is or isn’t working, and Arenanet knows that their faithful players will, just as above me, spout the “rng is rng” mantra to cover for it.
I can guarantee you more people leave WoW a month than leave Guild Wars 2 a month. Every game loses people. Stop trying to make it something it’s not.
That would be because WoW has a playerbase that is a lot larger. They could have a great month as far as player retention goes, and it would still be more players leaving than GW2 has in it’s worst month.
Start an Obsidian Sanctum Jumping Puzzle escort service?
I saw my first Mini Karka today in Divinity’s Reach, and while it was neat, it got me thinking on Mini’s that I’d like to see.
First on my list is a Mini Young Karka. The adult one is nice, and the poppers are cute, but why not complete the set and add a Young Karka mini? I think it would be cute. Young Karkas are just full of attitude and energy.
What other mini’s should there be?
I’m surprised by the way some people seem to be interpreting what the OP wrote. He’s not asking for strictly more valuable loot, just loot that wastes less time for no readily apparent reason.
I have mixed feelings about junk items. On one hand, they can be somewhat interesting and satisfying to clear out with the “sell junk” button. On the other hand, it would be way less of a hassle just to give us the equivalent copper. Unless I’m overlooking some niche case, there’s absolutely no alternative use for junk other than to convert it directly to copper.
Would anyone actually prefer dealing with junk items to simply receiving the copper directly?
Obviously, it’s not a huge burden or something that needs to change ASAP, but small quality-of-life changes usually aren’t. It would still be nice, just the same.
(There is an achievement for collecting junk drops, so they shouldn’t be removed entirely, but I’m sure they could be used more sparingly or thoughtfully than they are now.)
Junk serves the purpose of filling peoples bags and pushing them to buy larger bags/more inventory, which yields a slight increase in chance that they’ll spend real cash to get the gold needed to do such things.
I did the dailies. Because I felt like it. And hey, I survived too!
So toxic sarcasm is acceptable here, so long as your opinion supports current game mechanics. Good to know.
Some people say some pretty disgusting things. The guy who said these things should get some serious penalties. Its one thing to trash talk a player buts its completely different when you start saying deeply offensive and sickening remarks.
I’d hope Anet takes strong action against this person. I am a great supporter of Anet, though it is a shame that the OP has been led to feel like he can only find justice & answers on the forums.
It would be nice if Anet put the same effort into this issue in game that they do on the forums. I’ve reported people in the past for verbal abuse, and nothing’s ever been done.
I found Wintersday to be pretty, but boring overall. What’s the point of any of it when you can’t enjoy it with your friends? All the main events force you into arenas with people you don’t know. The result? Not the fantasy that Anet dreams of where people make long lasting friendships, that’s for sure. What I’ve seen is a bunch of events with absolute strangers resulting in absolutely no chat through the entire event.
Anet needs to get off this kick they are where they seem to believe that forcing people to do things will result in loyalty and money spent.
Increasing the cap on magic find % is pointless. Anet is constantly moving more and more loot to item types that are not affected by magic find.
Wait, I can drop the 800 bandit badges I have been carrying with me into the bank, and they still count when I’m at the vendor?
Seriously? o.O
Really says a lot about this community when one of the most active threads on most forums goes a full 10 with only 2 replies.
What makes you keep on coming back to GW2.
Thx and Merry Christmas :>
Only the most profound crushing boredom, which isn’t often.
Necromancer: Ugly minions
Um.. They’re comprised of dead carcases given life. They’re supposed to be ugly.
To be completely honest OP, I’ve even seen people announce that they will afk in front of red rock… guilds even. Also please note these afkers are more than likely Necro minion masters or rangers, I’d get more into the details but I don’t want to explain more on the subject.
Remember the battle for Lion’s Arch? People, entire zergs would afk at the way point next to the exit to get a free reward. Can’t speak for anet, but a few people were punished for doing that from time to time.
Arenanet has had plenty of situations over the past 2 years in which to wake up and realize that giving out rewards for failure and attendance are detrimental to gameplay. Yet they refuse to change. It’s as if they want people to collect rewards while AFK, no matter how much damage it does to the game.
My first night, which was just this week, in Silverwastes was a lot of fun, and at one point in the mess I went to the entry waypoint and stood at the vendor while I grabbed dinner really quickly. When I got back, I was shocked to find a reward chest shaking away in the lower right of my screen. I still haven’t figured out what it was from, but I know I’d completed all other events before I went to get food.
Now, I’m not going to turn down free sand, but still, we shouldn’t be getting rewards for just standing around.
I don’t believe this was ever a bug either. The more time that elapses cements my belief that this was done intentionally.
A friend of mine offered up a theory that this was in some way connected to GamerGate. At the time, I thought that seemed a bit conspiratorial. Now I’m not so sure; there could be something to that. But if the anims were removed in response to some push by parties involved with GamerGate (or fear of such an action) then I’d like an answer to these simple questions: What on earth was so offensive about the animations? Why was it determined that the anims needed to go? And WHY LIE ABOUT IT AFTERWARD?
Despite those questions, I’m not interested in a Dev’s response to any of them because I already know what sort of nonsense such a response would probably contain. Much more interested in hearing the thoughts of the player base.
Yes it was intentional. The animations are “too feminine and too sexy” so a certain group of people dedicated to eradicating such things got it shut down. It happens in any game they can sink their teeth into.
Welcome to PCWars 2
In before people with 30 precursors being smug about “rng is rng”
Anet is still making far to much money through people paying cash for gems→ gold to get precursors. Why on earth would they kill their cash cow?
