There is no point in limiting or restricting the tags as there are likely a majority that already have them. While it was a good idea, the mentoring tag was very poorly thought through and implemented.
“We’ve provided a way of removing the RNG factor from obtaining precursors by adding collections which rely on RNG”
I’ve always felt the level up effects were overly weak in GW2.
As OP mentioned, it doesn’t need to be like Wildstar, but it needs to be more obvious.
Plus, recalling another post the other day, they’d still have to find out how to disable gliding for JPs and edges of the map and so forth.
Ideally it would be similar to dealing with when you can swim towards the edge of a zone (i.e. South Sun Cove) where it says “You’ve hit a strong current….”
The biggest mistake that Anet made with precursor crafting was that they tied the gold value of the items required directly to the market. They’ve essentially gone and fixed the prices for precursors permanently, based on some average or snapshot of the current market.
They’ve prevented Venom from ever going over 100gold or so, even should they totally revamp underwater combat and do an expansion where we fight Bubbles/Steve/name-of-the-month. Venom is now fixed at roughly 100gold (I’ve not made it, just going by rough current tp price).
Bifrost, no matter how undesirable it may become over time, for whatever reason, will always be around 1000g on the TP.
I’ve run into some issues with crafting Carcharias, but I know there are other problems as well.
For the benefit of the community, I thought it might be useful to have one thread with all the known bugs and broken areas of precursor crafting. With this, other users can, hopefully, find it via google search and get an idea if their problem is actually a bug, or if something else is going on.
For me, Carcharias Tier I has an issue in that the initial “box of recipes” only delivers the recipe for the inscription, not the other components (experimental <name>)
Whether via finishing the initial shark tooth collection, or purchasing the “Chest of Sharks”, the only unlocked recipe you get by double clicking on the “Box of Recipes: Carcharias (First Tier)” is the inscription recipe. The other three items, labeled “Experimenal” do not get unlocked or even show up in the crafting panel.
Is the inscription account bound? Because you could just transfer it from your artificer to your huntsman.
After testing a bit the rare mats like lodestones giant eyes and silver doubloons drop only once every like 15-20 events, so they can be farmed but only very slowly.
That’s unfortunate. They need to be a bit more often than that. That’s 3750 events for one stack (assuming 1 per 15)
Integrated voice chat is nice when it’s done right, but with the availability of teamspeak, vent, etc. it isn’t something I’d want Anet to work on at this point.
Kinda surprised these didn’t end up on the rotation for a map reward.
I just wanna point out that the ONLY gold cost aside from a few Vendor things you have to buy is self-inflicted. You can (just like with any other ascended crafting) just wait and do it one at a time until you have what you need, and farm the materials you need.
I understand what you’re getting at, but I disagree. That’s a matter for a different thread though.
Dear Anet: Please give OP what they want and just send me the Immortal skin of choice that they would have received. I want them all!
I noticed this also. It is only since the expansion dropped, and unlike the bug several months back, it is only the “Lyssa confound you” line.
…guild halls are something i have been yearning for for quite a time and now anet has blown all my expectations with them….
That would be another one for my list. The guild halls are pretty outstanding, and in my casual opinion the fight to claim them was great.
Inspite of a few core problems that I have *cough*precursors*cough*, I think I should state for the record, and much to the shock of a few people here, that I do not think I wasted my money on the expansion.
I also think that I’m not the only person in this situation.
So, that being said, I pose the question: While you may be unhappy with some aspects of this expansion, what makes the expansion worth it for you?
For me, I can think of several things that make me feel I got my $50 worth.
1. In spite of my misgivings about only getting 4 new PvE zones, Anet did make them really large on the XY, and actually found a way to deliver quite well on the Z axis. Gliding makes a huge difference, as I expected to be stuck using only specific paths through the trees.
2. Personal story dialog. It’s not just that we have these conversations with NPC’s in world now (no more face to face cut scene), but have you noticed that if you’re a human and you talk to a norn, your character actually leans back slightly to look up at the Norn, while the Norn looks slightly down to look at you? It’s a little detail, but one that stood out to me.
3. While I feel like some of the progression is slower, I haven’t yet run into “grind” when it comes to doing what I need to do in Verdant Brink (I’ve only gone into Auric Basin so far for a quick look around, but haven’t been anywhere else). I am a little frustrated by how you have to balance getting XP with getting Mastery Points, but I’m learning the process, and it doesn’t feel “grindy” (yet). From my level 3 perspective, I actually think the gating is ok, and is, to me, acceptable in the realm of “content stretchin” (I might change my mind in the future, but for now, I’m happy with it.)
4. New models. I appreciate the fact that Anet didn’t just go through and reskin current mob models, but went and created a whole group of new ones, with their own mechanics and so on. I’ve played games where new zones had re-skinned old content, and it just takes something major away from it all. The new models are great, and in some instance, in my opinion, humorous and whimsical (mushroom soldiers, etc.)
5. Specializations aren’t forced. I don’t have to turn my ranger into a Druid in order to do things (as far as I know). I may need to do it in order to use a ranger in a raid, but that is content that hasn’t been delivered yet.
6. It’s somewhat self conflicting, but I do like the precursor crafting process and how there is no progression towards legendary weapons. My main complaint is the gold cost, and even that might change, depending on the economy.
Anyway, that’s why I’m not on the “refund” wagon. Yes, I’m a bit burned by the precursor crafting costs, but it’s not a game wrecker for me.
So, to all you who have complaints about HoT, but aren’t quitting.. What DO you like?
…
3. Eventually, only the people who actually want to mentor will mentor, or those who want to lead a train/zerg in the absence of anyone with a commander tag.
….
I am hopeful that this is correct. In spite of trolling and “showing off”, the mentor tag is actually a pretty nice idea. It could use some polish, like the option for the tag to only appear to party members (and I admit that coding that might be rather involved), but the idea behind the design is a good one, and good mentors will be able to make use of it.
Time will tell, but it would be nice if things do eventually settle down to where they are generally used by individuals who genuinely want to help.
They claim it’s a bug.
I doubt that.
ANet’s going to get you, my pretty. And your little dog too!
Go ahead and keep living in your little fantasy world where Anet only wants what’s best for the players as opposed to their investors and their own bank account.
Oh, sure they want what is best for them. But outright lying never is best for anyone. Stuff like that comes out. All it needs is one disgruntled employee and a copy of the order to lie for it to blow up in their face.
As Benjamin Franklin said, “three men can keep a secret, if two of them are dead.” There are a lot of people working over there and not all can be happy with their job at all times.
But since you liked my first picture, have another, free.
Wow, someone important from a time and society long past and gone said something that was factual in an age of morality that is long past. Big deal.
One of these days human nature is going to broadside you out of nowhere and leave you reeling from the truth.
They claim it’s a bug.
I doubt that.

If I run past a dead person, it’s usually because I’m running from the reason they are dead.
I make an effort to run towards where a downed player is, and will make an effort to keep them from becoming fully dead.
This is a major problem with GW2 though. For all this “wonderful community” we’re supposed to have, the majority won’t even stop to rez a downed player. Never mind issues with scaling, etc. in regards to fully dead players, but people are so intensely selfish they won’t even stop to help a downed player that isn’t even being attacked.
They claim it’s a bug.
I doubt that.
Leave it to Anet to solve a problem without actually solving the problem.
If it costs as much to make a precursor as buy one, but takes a lot more time, then there’s literally no point to it at all.
Actually, for Anet, there is a point. The chance to get thousands of people to pay $50+ for the privilege of adding a months worth of time investment to the TP cost.
So far, that’s the only valid reason I can think of as to why they did this. It’s a hook for selling the expansion, nothing more. Outside of that they have yet again blown an amazing amount of time and dev resources on smoke and mirrors.
I expected to have to put in time and effort in order to get the stupid RNG aspect out of the process, along with a noticeable drop in gold cost for that exchange.
Anet delivered duplicate pricing with a stupid amount of grind on top of it.
The level of greed displayed by this company is mind boggling.
Except anet stated way back that they intended to keep the cost pretty much the same as the prices on TP. So why did you expect it to be cheaper?
Source please.

Because being rude is the best way to make friends! Go rudeness team!
What amazes me is that the moderators don’t see that it will do more harm being rude to people who leaves than deleting the comments. Do you think this player will ever, EVER, recommend this game to anyone after treated like that? I would not be surprised if they now start actively discouraged people to buy the game, warning them of the hateful community.
And if they know of games and forums, they can tell him that that’s the usual response to saying “I’m leaving”
Go check out any game forum, you’ll see.
Ah, the old “everyone does it, so it’s okay” line. Never ceases to amaze how people complain about how others act, yet repeat this like their lives depend on it.
I don’t know about “Greatest” because I’ve not played a whole lot of it, but in spite of my cynicism and negativity over the years, I have to congratulate Anet on pulling off at least an hour or so of uptime immediately after the launch of a big expansion. I’ve seen expansions come and go, and there’s a reason some people fear the term “patch day”. Server crashes are a big problem, and even though there are bugs and some slowness, Anet seems to have avoided that all together during the most crucial time of the launch. Good job to the folks at Anet for pulling that one off.
No. This is just a bad idea and would lead down the slope to a lot of other bad ideas.
I can’t support any change to human females given that it might remind Anet that they’re still in the game and cause them to be removed like 66% of their idle animations.
This.
I love how it looks with the carapace outfit.
Colors: Royal Purple, Purple, and Flare
The wings are really pretty, and appropriately sized.
Would love to see some dye channels on some of these back pieces though.
If it’s opt in that’s fine for me. It’s not necessary to insult those who enjoy different things than you to make your request and argument for it. The people who do it will be losing out on an enormous amount of exp for the Mastery lines that they can casually get just by running through new areas, but hey, whatever floats your boat.
Just so long as the star is only displayed for characters who have legitimately completed the map.
No star
No karma
No exp
No map completion goodies including gift of explorationFair enough imo if that’s what they want to to.
This. If you want account bound map access, you get none of the perks that go with actually doing the work.
The watchwork mining pick was called pay to win by too many people. It was an experiment that ultimately the community didn’t accept.
Even though I’ve benefited from using the watchwork pick, I do think Anet should remove them and refund the purchase price in gems to the players that have it.
I figure the only reason they haven’t done it is that watchwork sprockets are currently at a price that is in line with where they want them.
Do you really have an issue with this, or are you actually just using this thread to sell bots? Because it sure sounds like the latter.
+1 Good idea.
I only end up in event maps, chest farma ate the ones I have trouble getting in
Same here. All I can find these days is event maps in LFG. Perhaps it’s just bad timing for me, but that’s my experience. I’ve got 75 shovels, and don’t really want to use them solo.
They probably bumped the drop chance up by +0.00001%
Just enough to legally say there was an increase.
On the players end, not a noticeable difference at all. It’s all about hype.
But, maybe the idea is to chase those players away, and replace them with a more casual type of player that prefers to buy their loot with cash then to earn it in game…
Now your eyes are open.
There should be a sticky for these threads, as they pop up all the time.
“I’m not rich, therefore no-one else should be.”
A small QoL request. Please, Anet, allow some way for users to know if a particular part of an outfit is not able to be affected by dyes.
I like the Witches outfit, but am somewhat disappointed that the gold areas shown in the preview are not part of any dye channel.
People would dye their underwear skin color to look nekkid and I would be too shocked to play the game.
Anet could get around this by at least offering 10 different colors that they choose.
Have a little bit of sympathy for someone who get’s laughed at daily by his guildmates purely for his skin color..
Here’s a novel idea: Find a new guild
If you all are so much kitten smarter than OP, maybe you could take the data that he spent a long time collecting and make something useful out of it.
I for one found in interesting.

Anything that I put on my back looks like that, what’s up with that? I can’t use any back items at all because they levitate 5 inches away from my body.
You need to find something else to be bothered by.
It’s pixels on a screen in a video game that you will only see while staring at the display with the camera zoomed in and your character standing still with nothing else around.
Meanwhile, no one else will care, because they’ll be busy, actually having fun playing the game.
God forbid someone should want some of the basic qualities that so many other MMO’s out there seem to have been able to get right from day 1.
What’s the Iron Legions favorite sea food? Arctic Charr
How does the Blood Legion like it’s meat? Charr-broiled.
So I bought 10 extra slots and made several different classes with all of the slots I have. It’s fun, but I still can’t post a short message on the forum :/
Since it hasn’t been added yet, I know I saw that somebody here on the forums had this as their signature, and I thought it was pretty funny.
What’s Queen Jennah’s favorite movie?
Logan’s Run
:)
5 Norns walk into a bar, and the bartender says “Well, we’re in the black for the year.”
For the first time in this forum I agree with the OP the timer isn’t a great idea, but it doesn’t mean zerker, just means that DMG high gear is still meta, could make druid pointless maybe?
I can see the LFG’s now: “Raid, no druids!”
We have always had a non RNG way, buying them off of the trading post. So what people wanted is a new way with less cost and more grind.
What Anet appears to be delivering is “same cost, more grind.”
This change reflects a complete and utter lack of prioritization skill on the part of Anet management and whomever is involved with deciding what gets changed/fixed and what doesn’t. This game has hundreds, perhaps thousands?, of bugs that need to be resolved because they affect gameplay, and yet management chooses to waste precious dev time removing something that the majority of players saw as nothing more than cute fun.
It is sickening to think that while they constantly beat the drum of “we’re working kitten the expansion” as an excuse for why they can’t focus on player issues, that they found the time to make the changes to prevent the players from having a little fun with the quaggan transforms.
They spent dev time fixing that? good grief.
Maybe or maybe it’ll be on par with that. That way you can be doing something fun to complete the collections rather than farming gold the entire time.
From what we have seen precursor crafting uses a different set of materials (T7) than precursor forging (T5). Demand for the different methods can thus float independently.
There’s basically no way that this doesn’t lower prices (supply is up, prices go down at equilibrium), but the gap between TP and crafting, well, that’ll be determined by the market.
Any crafting materials involved in the creation of a precursor are going to balance out in value equal to the current prices though. Especially if it’s ascended items required for the materials. They have time gated factors involved too.
As I’ve eluded to before. I think Arenanet decides what they want precursors to sell for on the TP, then structures loot drops and such around making that happen, not the other way around.
