I have a very good attrition necro, and I am not even running condi damage. I am a tank and its been great.
I did damage with my power necro for years and I am loving the switch. What I wanted from necro all along was more of a Necro Warrior type. So thats where I am going.
There is nothing more priceless then thieves and mesmers who think focus the necro easy kill shes marauder or beserker Hah, guys mess with those trinkets, you would be surprised what vitality and healing power will do for you now.
If they surprise you, you can not counter them. First let me say I want to see Mesmers stay in a good place. I do not want them ground under like necros were in PvP. I consider the plights of the mesmers some of my own.
If you see them coming I would advise getting super aggressive, for example the minute I see one I go into deathshroud, tp 2 to them and start just dropping as much area damage on top of them.
Even if they stealth or move away the area damage ussually gets them. Their first reaction is to Moa me, this is fine as a Moa I do not let up I leap at them and disrupt. Disrupt disrupt as much as you can.
Mesmers are actually not good at combatting the Moa if you know how to use Moa against them.
Dodge roll towards clones, Don’t stand in them, if they follow you leap, or dodgeroll into them.
If you have a trait you can use that helps with daze or immobilize use it. For example traiting up that fear on daze/knockback/stun ect is really helpful.

This patch should aptly be named the Burn Baby Burn Patch.
Cause thats what you do. On a side note it requires you to be more defensive and use condi removal effectively.
Burn seems a tad high but please don’t nerf it to much.
The rest seem fine.

Well I havent decided on the sigils although generosity right now is a must.
I also havent decided on the runes, I like the Wurm but there may be a better option, not sure I actually need the vitality but I do think this build needs ferocity. My crit chance is fine due to Death Perception.
I really liked this build last night, burning barely touched my health and I had alot of shroud uptime.
My damage is something you have to do over time, you have to attrition. Death shroud damage was great of course.

I assume you are talking about your typical MM/shroud build. Yes, it can take a beating, at one point my shroud health was simply not going down at all.
No, It is not your typical at all, I only run the flesh golem and sometimes a wurm for stunbreak depends on which master trait I run.
If stun locks an issue, perhaps I should run FITG.
I have 32k health, I transfer condis in 3-4 different ways. I life siphon on wells and run my ally siphon. I have fought burn guardians, mesmers, warriors, thieves and barely had my health moved. However I have yet to test it on an engi.
I dont run spite, at all. I don’t think spites that great anymore.
Its pretty good, I would like a bit more damage, I will post it later for people to help me determine how it can be improved.

Finally some attrition with survivability in my build! Fighting me takes forever. You can not down me quickly, I am completely not what anyone expects.
Everyone melts around me while I just deathshroud life siphon. Sure I took a hit to my damage but I have already said, I would gladly give it up to be tanky.
I wont die anymore to focus, let the glassys burn around me

When I have tested this build and refined it I will share. I was hoping others would be able share some of their tankier builds so I could get a feel for what is working for others.
If people would switch thier builds to counteract it they would be fine.
Currently as a necro I am Tanky as hell and its a nice switch. I just hope they dont realize how strong my ability to survive is and take it away.
I jumped in with my build that I had been planning figuring that the extra life siphon would be great and that I would be tankier then ever.
I was wrong, my friends have made burn guardians. Oh Boy, fire is the true winner right now in PvP.
I have changed my build, I will not be destroyed by your fires it takes more then burning to get my necro.
Now I am about as tanky as I can get and I must say damage output is still good. I am the true attrition mancer!
I am running a PvP build that is a hybrid Minion build. Meaning I use the wurm and the flesh golem to suck up some condis ect.
I am going to test further before posting. This build does phenomenally well against our enemy. Fire.
Fire is ridiculous, my friends have made burn guardians and your health will be gone in seconds. Warriors and engis seem to have a crazy fire output to.
So my response is a massive amount of life siphon for me and my allies, condi transfer and lots of death shroud, all while rocking 32 k health.
Whats really cool is that my death shroud still has that 100% crit rate mmm yeah

Actually if you just bought the game four days ago, from what I have seen you should contact support. If you paid full price through this website there is a good chance they will work with you to upgrade you to HOT.

Well to really put things in perspective, ESO Tamriel expansion is selling for pre-purchase at 59.99.
And they just list whats coming with it. Not much else is known.
Warlords of Draenor is 49.99 does not include the whole game. + Monthly subscription fee.
Diablo Reaper of souls Expansion is 39.99 (been out for two years) does not include the whole game.
In response to $50.00 is to much for an expansion.
This is ridiculous lol. I have never seen a company so penalized for allowing new players teh core pack for free with the expansion. It is hilarious to me that if they charged new players seperately, people couldnt complain.
Its a much bigger expansion then we expected.
Veteran players do not typically get “discounts” or “rewards” for expansions.
People had no problem paying extra for Alphas and Betas prepurchase packages in other games IE Archeage (which were much more expensive.) Diablo makes you buy both the core and expansion seperately.
The sad part is the only “mistake” Anet made is allowing new players to have the core game for free. By the reasoning on these threads, they should of charged seperately for the core game, as they did in GW1. Everything was seperate.
I want the Devs and people who work on this game to know, I am sorry that people feel entitled. They can’t appreciate this game as truly free to play. Your expansion is actually bigger then I expected, and I am blown away by what you are doing with guild halls.

I am baffled by the sense of entitlement. I am a veteran player been here since the start.
I have played the expansions for many games, SWTOR, Diablo, ect.
People did not blink at the digital Expansions of Diablo 3 that was originally set at 60$ and it came with nothing else. Nothing, no betas, no character slots, it was just a story line expansion really. Not only that but you still had to buy the original Diablo three Seperately. Which was really new player unfriendly.
Let us look at what Archeage charged with thier 200 dollar preaccess to Alpha. and it 99 for thier access for beta.
I am shocked at the double standard people are portraying here. Especially after seeing the amount of work and how much larger the expansion actually is in GW2. They are investing so much time and work into this thing and changing core systems, improving them across the board.
Just because they didn’t give an extra character slot? Just because they decided to throw in the core game for those that didn’t have it? If you want Veteran rewards that’s really a discussion for a separate thread and has nothing to do with the selling of an expansion.
If you don’t want to play the beta, wait and dont pre-purchase it, perhaps the price will go down.
I would like to hear the Stream too, it would help alot to understand the reasoning behind the nerfs.
Because reading them, made no sense, and I felt that our changes were incongruous with the changes released to other classes.
Almost like the different balancing devs were communicating with each other.
Oh I didnt agree with that either. But when the reaper specialization came out I understood alot better the changes they were making and why. They are linked.
My point here is that that is how they want necros to be, how they think things will go down and thier ideals for the class. They have probably tested it out against other specializations even. Now, is that how the players will play it. More then likely not, but you never know, perhaps in the future we will want to be hit, because we are so tanky and do so much chill…. (probably not)
I do understand your sentiments, I do as I main a necro. However,your belief that there arent Devs that play necro, well you would be surprised.
For real this not even funny anymore , every patch is a nerf to a class that is not even in good shape compered to other classes. Since release necro was getting nerefed over and ove , oh yeah and some bug fixes.
Just recently necro got heavily nerfed because u can swap ulti/weapons so u cant get lf at start of a match , now chill and cripple wont effect movement skills.
I can tell what will happend to necro after core and elite spec release , will be complete trash because every other profession will receive multiple buffs making then even more OP then they are now.
Lets be honest , devs have no clue how necro work in pvp , they have no idea what to do with the class , for me they give up long time ago.
Actually I personally think the Dev working, or highlighted as working on Necromancer and Mesmers has a brilliant mind. (Robert G. Not because he is giving me changes I want, but because I can see that he understands Necro’s on levels I don’t think most players do.
To say that they never play necros and do not understand them is a blanket statement with no basis. They don’t advertise that they play necro, they don’t advertise when their standing next to you all the time. In fact alot of times they are lol.
I do think that Engi is a favored class by some Devs at Arena net, but at the same time being favored, doesn’t necessarily mean it wont be balanced. This is a game tied to a business. A business would not survive if everyone played one class. Because people would get bored and leave.
So its to soon to tell honestly what will happen to the Necros/Reapers. They are constantly announcing changes they are making to turn current play-styles upside down. I like this, its time! Its long overdue and I am sure that there will be pain from things that turn out to be OP and there will be buffs for things that don’t equal out.
We, like they, just have to wait and see…

@Zeft, I 100% understand what your saying. There are facets of the Thief abilities that don’t make sense. I think you should be revealed by using an interface like stomping. I don’t think you should be able to stealth stomp.
However, In my interest of learning how thieves work I, who normally plays necro/mediguard , started running a thief for a while in WvW and PvP to get a feel for what thier abilities are and how to counter them. I had always lived under the belief that Stealth was like this be all end all that would save me.
It doesn’t and, more to the point I was shocked by how low their health pool is, how hard it is sometimes to land hits ect. Now, I am no master thief, and thief is not a profession I am currently interested in. I mainly wanted to understand it so I could combat it. But, I think I can say safely that there are areas of thief that need help, that need change to improve thier QOL, meanwhile there are other areas that are not counterable, and could use rework.
However, this is the case for almost every class except a few. The thing that people don’t realize is that high damage classes may seem easy with no skill to play and do damage but, they actually take ALOT of skill to survive on.
Going off the inspiration of “letting the players vote on a map” , I was thinking about a way of streamlining the selection of pvp games in such a way where seperate ranked and unranked queus would go away.
1. For example, what if, players simply individually picked , after the map was selected, whether they wanted the game to be ranked or unranked.
2. Also what if players, when they initially solo queued up for a match were given the option to opt out of matches against full teams. I don’t mean groups of 2-3-4 but full teams of 5. They would then get a warning that their queue time would be 5-10 minutes longer if this was selected.
Basically I am trying to think outside the box and give players more involvement in the decision making process. If you did my #1 suggestion it would increase the number of matches available by combining these two queues. Then #2 is feasible because we have increased available match options.
Just a thought, I don’t know if this would be possible but this is maybe a direction or thinking path for the powers that be to consider.
At one time, I made a suggestion about Alliances as a management system for condensing servers but keeping communities in tact. I had suggested the alliance had perks and forms of communication.
Unfortunately, I don’t see much chance of this happening as I don’t think there will be any server merging, more then likely the HOT expansion will bring new people here or vets back and WvW mergers will be unnecessary.
Heres a quick breakdown of classes and what they can/possibly potentially do ect.
Warrior: Best for defending home base. Or stopping NPC Channels (needs banner)
Mesmer: Supply runner/ helps with final push (use portals)
Elementalist: with staff they can help run npcs or heal npcs or defend lord and heal him
Guardian: Shelter guard can defend our pushing npcs or lord is good for defending our base with warrior. Great for channeling and escorting legendary npcs
Engi: Defending home base destroys enemy npcs quickly
Mesmer: Every team should have a mesmer they are good for supply running due to portals. (needs portals)
Necro: good for pushing their lord. (great with lich up)
Thief: Supply runner helps push enemy gates.
Ranger: Supply runner pushing the enemy gate or destroying enemy npcs.
Now mind you this can all change but as of the last beta that is sorta the roles everyone filled. There is probably a million other ways to do it but that is like basic ways people met the needs. There are even more combos but this gives you a starting point.

I’m surprised that no one commented yet on the move to using sigils of bloodlust to up the burst over using sigils of air/fire.
I noticed that to, but I want to say the reason may possibly lie in people finding this as a non-skilled bit of play. Which means perhaps in the end it will be nerfed. But who knows.
I would love to see an EU analyzation as I watched that to.
There is nothing wrong to suggest Metabattle newer people will appreciate, this gesture so they can begin to learn a good build.
It also does not mean its the only build. I always say "start out with Metabattle then once you understand, pvp and your own preferences strengths, and how you can effectively play the class, tweak the build to suit you.
@Slininstien I really enjoyed your synopsis. One thing I think should be noted. The changes the Abjured made since the WTS is very obvious. (IE a Phanta on Medi and no DD eles)
The biggest thing to note is what Nos did in I believe one of the matches. He ran a different amulet. He ran soldiers. Power necros are not always beserk anymore. A smart power necro looks at the opposite team comp and adjusts for it. If I am up against a team with mediguards and shoutbow warriors (as i main a necro) or lots of mesmers I will run a very tanky power necro and just work the pressure angle of our class. Our wells and DS still do excellent damage and makes a good sustain so that we are not focused down in a few seconds. The biggest challenge to necro is not the damage but the survival.
Often people miss this factor and think “Power Necro is so easy I destroy everything” No, when you get up against a team that knows what they are doing, Power necro is all about survival while still applying pressure. You don’t get to block, or disengage.

I have a couple reasons:
1. During seasons I commanded alot and it burnt me out.
2. Alot of the people I used to WvW with have left the game or quit WvWing
3. I started PvPing and love the fact that I can always find a fight there
4. The people in WvW have become burnt out to so often times anger is replaced with what used to be laughter.

So last night I fought a full five man (must of been a premade cause its not possible otherwise) of Mesmers in courtyard.
I have to say I lol’d, actually I am not complaining, we were not a full team ourselves 4+1 and we were a balanced team.
This post caught my eye because it made me think of that group of mesmers in courtyard, Can you imagine, that there were 15 phantasms running around? It was chaos, in true mesmer fashion.
It turned out to be a good challenge as, the match was tied for a long time but at the end they got the drop on us and pulled off downing a couple right before the timer popped. 275/225.
As for popularity of courtyard, I can say that I have started playing unranked just for the rotation, only having four maps can get stale. Need the variety.

Its actually going to be coming sooner then that, it is in the core trait reworks. Nothing to do with HOT, so I would think very soon.
I understand its powerful but the nerf(half of currently values) is pretty extreme in my opinion. In general it wont stand up to a thief downstate or an engi. So no one will worry about necros anymore…
It just hurts more because they just fixed the downstate we had, that was bugged and we didn’t know it. Now it must be nerfed…cause it was never balanced due to the bug.
To be honest one of the hardest things for me about the Silverwastes and Drytop was the dry brown sandy barren look. So tiring to the eyes.
So I was knocked flat when I came into the Itzel village and the colors, the details and the level of artistry here. I want to just say that my friends and I just ran around staring and peaking into tree-huts astounded at the beautiful setting you created.
I want to thank the Devs that worked on this, I want you to know that its beautiful and is a rich and immersive environment. For the first time I got really excited about what other places I might discover.
Yeah no, they aren’t deleting them it well be nice to have change of maps available.
Waypoints have changed so the auto upgradesystem makes more sense. Thank goodness for people getting a bit more freedom and the shut down of upgrade trolls.
They probably have the room to grow and expand this now and will stick to traits that don’t give a personal fighting advantage. If they come up with something else for vet players this isn’t such a big deal. We all are losing this, so it’s not like we will be going up against people who have it.

Just to clarifying a few points, since there seems to be some confusion. On Borderlands the 3 capturable waypoints are at Garrison, SE Tower and SW Tower. Garrison is for the home team and then each of the invading teams gets a waypoint at their closest tower. These waypoints can be contested as normal. We’ve considered home team waypoints for the Bay/Hills keeps too, but that’s probably too strong. Keep supply depot max goes up to 1100 at T3, not 500.

Yes I agree, but once again, there is a blue tower with a waypoint open at the top of the picture and what looks like a waypoint in a garri open in the Anvil Rock Borderlands.
Also that tower is green.
Which if it were a person on Anvil Rock, then the blue tower shouldnt be available in the other BL. If it were a person from the blue server, then the green garri shouldnt be available.
