I think people failed to see the hidden benefits to this event.

When ANET first announced this event, I was so happy I knew right away the benefit this could be to world vs. world. However my joy was tempered with the anger I knew I would see here on the boards.

I knew I would see endless posts from people that were angry that they couldnt defend and play the game the same way they play it, day in and day out. Stuck in an endless routine that is slowly loosing people, and not gaining people to outweigh its losses.

I was sadly not wrong as I saw that this thread was already up to 17 pages and most of them are just rages. Somewhere a vast majority of people have lost site as to what is important to, A. them as a player, B. thier guild, And lastly C. WvW.

As a player most people that play MMO’s play them to spend with other people, as a player if you love that game mode then this event is only seeking to ensure that continues.

As a guild, taking this week off of all weeks is foolish. Why? In one night I recruited 20 new to WvW players. Who found this event amazing and wonderful.

If you love WvW your lack of vision and understanding of this event is sad as it is one of those huge moments that allows people to capitalize on new players and give them a taste of WvW in a non stressful light. New wvwers love Golems they give them a feeling of security and seeing the loot that you can abscond with a good golem run encourages them to enjoy and come back to WvW.

This game mode wont survive without new people, and if you think they want to sit inside a tower and a keep defending, thats why we have lost so many up to this point.

It is okay if that is your personal taste. You should of defended with golems? Who says they always have to be offensive. Many of the times my group was overrun was by tactical moves by our enemy to defend with golems.

It was alot of fun, and just something new for a week. Don’t worry it will be back to your preferred playstyle soon I just hope there are still people left for you to play with.

Take a look at T8 if you dont know what its like to play on a server with no one. People arent moving up, they are moving out.

See I like a nice mix, a balance of keep/tower taking so you feel like you are accomplishing something, alongside a good fight interspersed here and there.

What I find happens with groups that do one or the other, all the time is they get burnt out. People get bored just PVDing, people get worn out just fighting nonstop.

So between bored or worn out-people will play in wvw less amounts of time until they stop.

You must have a balance of both, variety is what makes WvW fun.

Well, here is the thing. Camera changes allow peering over a wall and that is all that is needed to fire an AC. Although it sounds like it’s not relevant, there are spots even before the camera changes that siege could shoot things on the ground at some towers, like the opening over a gate.

With the camera changes, how do you know for sure they aren’t doing it within the game without a 3rd party application?

Lol, and this is the Anets biggest probelm – CAUSALITY (inability to see a bigger picture = bad decision making = bad developer). They introduced something that practically make zoom hacking obsolete .. bravo Anet, bravo :-)

No, I dont think, Anets problem surrounds the casual player. It is the ones that scream casual, at everyone and think they are better then others, due to the amount of time they spend playing a video game.

If Anet wants to allow people to expand thier field of view, everyone has access to this and therefore is not an issue if used.

I am uncertain I think what a tutorial can do is limited, this is where we need people to teach and train.

Maybe a training center where Experienced players can help new players. With slight incentives.

In conclusion I know, dear developers, that you have to find a way to keep more players on the game tempting them to buy gems and spend their money, but I think that it’s not a good choice making PvP area so common, letting that all these occasionally players ruin the game to the real PvP fans even knowing that they will go back to PvE at the first occasion, leaving a messy HotM, full of raging and frustrated people. It would be probably better, even to make GW2 a good eSport, keeping the PvP area an elite area, where just people that really want to succed will stay, even if they lose, even if they suck at the beginning, even if they rage with themselves because they are not playing good, that day.

I have faith in you, ANet, and I know that you will fix all, but till that day I’ll just watch the game from far away.

How do you determine who really wants to suceeed and who is just a pveer. How do you determine that someone playing PVE or WvW would not make a good pvper with patience and practice.

Why do you think it is a good idea to promote any kind of elitism in a game that depends on a broad player base.

I have faith in ANET to care about making this game accessible for all not just some random persons ideals of what should and shouldn’t be allowed in PvP.

It is exactly this kind of thinking that drives new blood from PvP. Sorry I want people to play with even if they aren’t up to my same level all the time or I am not up to their level all the time.

I can see the issue with Eles, because they already have so much sustain, though I will not say they dont work hard to do this, they are masters of rotation compared to other classes. But guards give up alot to do a burn guard build.

I do not play guard but I tried out this build just to see what it was like and although it is fun it takes skill to stay alive with it.

If there was not a treb on the Stronghold map, you would never be able to knock off a stability pulsing player from the Mist Champions.

You would also not be able to stop full five person pushes on Stronghold which mess up the whole balance of the map.

Nor could you stop a group from camping the supplies.

The treb is a necessity and I have felt its pain as well as delivered its pain.

Chaith is awesome, he is using a high amount of skill. Engi is not in the same place that it was and I am so happy he is able to maintain his role.

I want to be clear here. Burning is high but, its one of the key features and rightly so of a guardians abilities.

Maybe a slight adjustment is needed but I see no reason to destroy a condi class on guards. At first everyone used this build and I know that was annoying, but they do give up alot of things in order to do this.

So please be gentle when you adjust burning I was so happy to see that guardians got a viable condi template.

Can you imagine, this pvp map lasting as long as it takes to take some towers or keeps? Sometimes these battles go on for over an hour.

People will turtle up inside of the keep and you will stand around dying and fighting over and over. Not only does this get tedious but some people cant devote that much time in one instance to a pvp map.

I am lost as to how this is a PVE map, I can only imagine these are people trying to just rush the lord.

I have seen more fighting over supplies, more fighting over mist champions and more lord room fights.

In WvW one of the funner things that happens, is the lord room fights to save/take the lord, and this captures it in small battles, why I like this is I get to have more of these fights on a regular basis.

Honestly, if you play this map against another team that knows what they are doing, you will constantly be challenged every step of the way.

How to Improve Revenants ideas

I love the Revenant, huge fan of the Maellyx part! I can see so much potential here to achieve that on the fly I can change up my skills to meet the situational needs.

However in this same great goal lies the weakness. Right now it will not hold up well, and this is specific to the competitive side of the game, due to:

A. Needs a slight speed increase to casting times. However we are also paying with energy cost. I get that you want hammer slow, but its damage is not enough to sustain a slow weapon. I play necro and I know all about slow heavy hitting skills. So I can tell you hands down that it needs a slight bump in speed In all weapon skills.

B. Damage, it is weak in comparison to all other classes I assume this was done on purpose to tweak up, verses, pumping them out with to high of a damage from the start. The damage values on slow skills needs to be modified to warrant them even after a slight boost to their speed.

C. Overall continuity. The Revenant traits and skills need to be looked at for equalization and continuity. I can see the thought here was that the Revenant was many things in one, that it was using the skills of a multitude of different fighting platforms. This needs some toning down though, the variety of the skills that don’t synergize with one another has made this a very busy patchwork quilt. With weak borders. The center of the quilt needs to be strengthened with core values of continuity pulsing out. My suggestion is to cut down on what feels like tons of random conditions and skills that vary greatly from each other. Focus on giving them a core.

How bout for just one week youtake your group, jump in a golem suit and do 100% more damage to other golems, 100% speed and no supply cost, and defend with your golem, or attack with your golem or just ROBO wars with your golem in the middle of a borderland. Because I dont think the point of this event is who can hold down thier ppt the best. I think that getting bloodlust and stomp stomp stomp other golems means more.

I see massive golem battles.

I see havoc team golem battles

I see golems streaking around the world….

The no white swords “event” was a disaster for servers who don’t have a queue 24/7 – The people who loved it are pretty certainly used to run in a zerg, but there are a lot of other servers out there who have got no zerg, except in prime time. So whoever had more people won these matchups as the server with lesser people couldn’t “afford to have people sitting in towers”.

Getting new blood into wvw is great but at the same time vets are quitting left and right because they’re not taken seriously and because none of the issues wvw has is adressed/worked on. So what you’ll get is a bunch of newbs (no offense, I have been one myself for the longest time) and no one around to teach them.

The same time badges will be wiped from the market so every siege will become more expensive, even more so since the changes to Spirit Shards.

I actually don’t care whether or not there’s a golem event but it’s completely missing the mark.

Actually I was on a server that didnt have 24 hour coverage, and I play in off times! You know what we loved how easy it was for our smaller groups to sneak away the keeps cause there were no white swords…

On another note, I agree there are some who love and some who dont love the events but reinvigorating and doing something different for a week is great.

We need change, open your mind be open to change the same old same old isnt drawing people in.

This is brilliance!

For those of you who say that this is not how veteran players play this game, and that anet is out of touch, enlighten me as i have been playing WvW for years and there is nothing more that it needs then this golem rush.

I seem to remember the no white swords event. Everyone cried and cried about that and then lo and behold, the majority loved it!

So now we have an event just meant to be pure fun. I mean just plain fun. Don’t you PLAY a game to Have FUN?

So for one week its crazy and chaotic and different and people. are running around in golems destroying everything and anything. You have a choice, join us, for we are legion or, sit on the sidelines in a tower and watch. Or go do something else.

The thing that most people don’t realize is that this event has the highest potential of getting new players into wvw and increasing the amount of people playing. WvW desperately needs NEW blood.

So I would suggest you guilds capitalize on this and throw golems at every new player you can find and recruit recruit recruit. Meanwhile, rock some faces.

Grouch said they’re working on it internally. If I had to guess, the patch delays are because they want to fix a lot of things at once and want to better make sure they don’t have any more game breaking bugs as a result of this patch. I’ve heard from several sources there are fixes and changes (across the board) coming down the pipe, so just give it time, rest at ease that a fix is coming and they know.

IE all classes will get changes as I suspected would happen from the beginning. Which is why its so hard to settle into a build not knowing if your build is going to have some major change done to it.

People don’t realize when they yell for a fix on a particular classes bug, that other fixes are coming down the line for them to.

Why do people play engi and mesmer in pvp?

No offense to the people that normally play Engineer and Mesmer cause I know you guys are just doing what you love with skill and competence.

Some people heard how strong these two classes are and are genuinely trying it out for the first time.

Other people, just want to run around spamming the engineers grenades bug, and the mesmers stealth burst abilities. Whether those abilities remain as they are is unknown but for now people love using these two things.

I don’t think this patch is broken. I think that because of the size of the patch there is alot more bugs then with a normal patch.

The patch notes were so long, they changed so much. They tried to catch the real game breaking bugs and moved quickly on a few they missed. The rest, well I think they are trying to determine the core root of the issues before making anymore changes that impact pvp.

They are watching how we react, whether something is working as intended or unintended. If unintended is it bad unintended or good unintended.

Some people have adapted and don’t have the same complaints they had on the first day. Builds that were cried about two days ago have changed to new things rising to complaint. Classes that everyone thought were no issue suddenly became an issue because of a change that class has gone with to counteract the behaviour of other classes.

This means the only real test is time, what problems continue to occur over a long period. Can we solve these problems in a way that doesnt directly hurt one particular group. Often times, when conditions were to high on classes, Arenanet gave everyone better condition clear. They didnt nerf the conditions. This the pattern I have identified, it is not so much what they do to your class but to other classes or overall changes they make to damage that really is their way of balancing.

Its tricky and sometimes I admire it and sometimes it drives me nuts.

Honestly, When looking at this all subjectively it is surprising that all the Dev’s don’t put in for vacation requests whenever a patch of this magnitude and size is released.

If you just go read each forum that has anything to do with combat, its an complaint ridden, chaotic mess. Don’t get me wrong some things need to be fixed, whats funny is they know what they are and have stated it. Anyhow the whole thing is a bit more relaxing when looked at in this comical sense.

There is a known bug where boon conversion to conditions, does not apply to Stab-Fear. When converting boons to conditions, Stability is only removed not converted.

Its really simple. Currently I only have problems with mesmers when I am being focused by them in a mid fight, ie I am getting other random damage from other people as well.

However it is foolish for any class to think that this is how things will stay. They have already made a post saying that slowly they are going to fix things over time, that have to do with condition damage, bugs ect.

When each class was revealed the devs said things like we will watch this one to see if its to strong.

What does this mean. Every class is going to have changes in the next few weeks/months? They will start with changing game critical items. If there are things that are working in an unintended way, due to bugs or things they didn’t intend happening, they will fix them.

This may buff sometimes, this may nerf sometimes.

But this is not the finished product for anyone. All classes including mesmers need to understand that.

Hey guys, I recently did some testing with a solid Mesmer(Warlord of Chaos) to see how insane both Condition dmg Guardian and Interrupt Mesmer currently are. Enjoy!

I agree this really needs to be looked at. Thats a really good video showing off that it might be wise to consider how much damage is able to be done in such a short amount of time.

Currently prioritize any mesmer or ranger first, as if you allow them to stand from far away and hit you, they will destroy your face.

Engi’s have a bug going on with grenades dropping to many right now so watch out for the red circles as they are crazy.

Necros, the more condi you throw at them the more they will send it back. Most people are playing against necro the way they used to and thinking they are easy focus. I wouldn’t try to focus them first you will fill their life bar really fast.

Guardians are burning it up right now they are actually fun for me to fight but then I am a necro. Watch out for thier burning damage.

Warriors with hammers. I dont know what this build is but its crazy and they will CC you into the ground. So just dodge roll stun break as much as you can around them. They have some burning to so beware.

Thieves are touch and go. I have met some thieves that have crazy amounts of stealth and burst and immoblize. Bad combos for me, I would advice trying to do as much area damage around them as possible.

Eles, have a good deal of burn and alot of healing, just stay on them don’t burst em until they get out of their water element. Watch out for their knock down in earth and their burning in fire. They build might more easily now so their damage is only going to get better.

Necros have made PvP un-fun

There are actually alot of builds going around right now. Necros have not settled into one thing much less even a few things. I personally have changed my build over the past few nights at least 7-8 times.

Signet builds are more rampant right now because thats the new thing we got. I personally think signets are boring. But to each thier own.

Lets start with, I want you guys to stay strong, as its fun to fight you.

I actually don’t think the damage needs much change, just the length of time you get to do it.

Your stealth needs a bit of reduction on how much or how long you can do it.

But I can see that stealth combined with how fast you can drop the damage, stuns, has little counter. I am using a trait right now just to combat Mesmer by having the fear when stunned up so that you can not finish your burst combo you started from stealth. I dont like traiting for one particular class, that suggest some sort of imbalance.

I don’t like celestial even though I know many Necro’s running it. I think it still breaks things up way to much. I have played guard as well, I can see how it would be more beneficial actually to a guard.

Not a bad thing really.

Yep, running something really similar and its awesome. I dont need spite, running the deathmagic and blood magic with soul reaping is great!

I use wurm and Fleshgolem from time to time in conquest. But the spectral armor is great for getting alot of life force really fast so often I will run that.

I have played necro for years, I don’t need builds done for me as I know what I personally need to survive and do decent damage. I always build myself to counter all classes not do just one thing.

I watch my opponents and counterplay them. Sometimes it works sometimes not. But all that matters is that I am effective.

Carrion Necro

1.5k Condition Damage, 2k Power, 28k health and 22k Life Force. Regularly get 15 stacks of Might too.

GM traits in Curses & Soul Reaping are not fixed.

Although no precision I have had no problems proccing Plague Sending.

Oh interesting wanted to see a carrion build. I will try that tonight. Currently I am running pretty tanky hybrid build.

I think warriors and Guards actually are struggling in the current environment to find thier place. I would do nothing to them.

Sorry I do not agree on Necros, if they didn’t have those traits right now, they would be dead. That would basically send them back to what we were and we would be destroyed.

I have more of a problem with quickness then burning, theres alot more quickness now and its throwing off balance. Burning could use a slight adjustment but it will affect the classes I think are struggling a bit..

Mesmers deserve to have good builds and good damage they have long struggled like necros. I don’t want to see to much of a nerf for them just make it harder for them to do the damage they are doing now. It just needs to take a bit more time to do the damage. They can drop it all to fast for counter. That will fix the problem. They got alot of stuff baseline and it freed up a lot of their traits and just needs tweaking.

Warriors, Guards, are struggling to survive in this environment, and engis are touch and go.

Rangers and eles seem fine.
