Adding Incentives/Reward Tracks for WvW

in WvW

Since I play both WvW and PvP pretty equally these days ( I used to do nothing but WvW) I have seen the vast differences in the fighting and behaviour in each. As a guild leader I understand the different needs that each game mode involves.

Coordination between a team of five and a team of 30 are both challenging but uniquely different.

What draws people into WvW is the unique ability of this game mode to feel free. One of the things I noted in PvP is that it was a much more controlled regulated area, where you are locked into a certain thing for a certain amount of time.

While, WvW you are free as you are in PvE to move across the map at your own pace and leisure, with people or without. Your choices in WvW are more numerous and can be either greatly impactful or have no impact. Your coordination and behaviour must be spot on when fighting large scale battles.

While in PvP the fights come fast and furious fulfilling a need in some for constant combat at a regular pace with set and clear goals.

WvW’s biggest draw for me are the sparks of randomness, when unbelievably large grand scale fights unfold, my favorite saying, Three way in Bay is so very true of what draws those who love the feel of it in.

However, aside from the fighting and unlike PvP, there is no set marker that addresses the hole that non fighting but contributive WvWers find in their bags each night. There are nights that are so difficult and frustrating on smaller servers when matched with a larger one that you are asking yourself.. why do I do this.

Its all for the moments but at the same time I do not feel it wrong to ask, for a strong basis of reward granting that identifys that some people work hard, they take bloodlust, speed around dolyaks and generally love the open world feel of WvW. I do not wish to lose these people or the new players who look at thier packs baffled by the amount of work with little return.

I enjoy both game modes, there are advantages to both. However I wont pretend that all is equal between them. And perhaps it never will be, but we can seek to improve that.

I know that WvW has the potential to take this game to even higher levels, that there are very skilled people within the WvW community who constantly impress and amaze me.
I can tell you right now if there was a zombie apocalypse, I want that blue tag in front of me… I want these people beside me

Some whining from a relatively new player here.

You get the best exo gear (salvageable, can be put in MF) in a gamemode where you don’t need any gear. You get dungeon tokens and charges and tomes and much more. You get it all even for losing. I know people who play PvP exclusively and they just have no use for all this loot, they don’t know what to do with it. And it’s hugely advertised by PvP weekend buffs.
Played PvP for a weekend, got lots and lots of exos I don’t need, threw them all in MF – got a precursor.

But… You get crap, crap and more crap in a gamemode where you actually need the best gear possible. And if you want to command you need gold for sieges. Gear that you can get for WvW badges is also requires gold. And it’s non-salvageable. And can’t be put in MF. Meaning when (if) you get to ascended by playing WvW you would have to just throw away your old gear and pricey runes in it.
Played WvW for 270 ranks and the most valuable thing was a BL key. Got myself a mini skritt from it.

What I want to say is… I like skritts.

I like Bats.

In any case I understand what your saying and I really hope they can build a more stable reward system for everyone that plays WvW not just those that PVD or field fight.

I want the new players to come and stay so we get some new blood into WvW. So it can be the dynamic battle that I know it can be.

This is a constructive feedback post on the issue of Incentives in WvW. I know that WvW is a difficult subject to address when it comes to adding the appropriate amount of reward for it. Giving out rewards for simple things like defense can be tricky in the fact that you can just walk through a keep and be counted in the defense of it.

The Reward Track idea has been proposed before by others and myself in the past, but I would like to go into detail with how it could work:

To Balance, these reward tracks you can:
A. Remove any monetary rewards for completing an event in wvw and give Karma and XP only.
B. Make the progression of these reward tracks slower then PvP since you can constantly attempt some of the items for them, so that it equals out to the amount of time it takes to complete a series of PvP tracks. I realize there are other rewards in WvW unlike in PvP where your only reward is the track your on. However, to balance that it would make sense to complete a reward track to take more time and have less rewards then PvP.
C. Or instead of B, Make it a week long track and Set it so you pick one track per week that resets at reset.
D. Remove the *reset chests for first, second and third place winners and introduce this instead.
E. OR Reward tracks could even be progressive as your rank increases.

Types of reward tracks you could have:

Seasonal: This reward track is only available during WvW seasons and involves things like PPK, Boss kills in keeps and towers, Doing the event in the middle of the map. They could have a specialized armor or reward of that sort for them

Holiday A reward track that gives out the same holiday rewards currently in PvP and PVE.

Defense reward track: This could always be available and involve, using defense mechanisms at camps and towers, escorting and defending yaks, Using a piece of siege when a tower or keep is under attack (this could be a certain number of times not every time you do it like, five times to be adjusted as needed). Defending a lord. (can not be gained on enemy borderlands, just EB and your own borderland)

Offense reward track: Hitting gates or walls with golems or rams, using the new shield generators, Doing the event in the center of the map.Taking enemy camps, Killing enemy dolyaks ect… (can not be gained on your own borderlands?)

Event reward track Events that the team develops could be made to incentivize players to participate by offering special reward tracks for either specific or time alotment of gameplay.

An Exceptional reward track: Covers all these aspects takes twice as long as the others and involves an exceptional weapon skin or items needed for legendary creation.

This puts the rewards in the hands of the player, as well as allows you to pop an event with a special reward track making events more likeable. This is also a chance to normalize rewards, across, wvw, pve, and pvp.

The current system is making the player base smaller by the minute.

While I’ll let the PvP team respond to the other points here, I do want to take a moment and address this:

PvP has steadily grown in population and play hours going on nearly a year now. It’s sky-rocketed since the game went free, and the two weeks before this have been our best weeks literally since the week the game launched. We anticipate this week will be the best week login/play wise PvP has ever had in the history of Gw2.

I don’t want to trivialize your points – and our competitive team has some great reasons why things operate the way they do they’ll lay out and explain in relation to leagues soon: I do want to call out you’re using false population data to support your point.

From an ArenaNet perspective, PvP is the fastest growing part of Gw2 and had more success for us as a business in the last year than it’s had by far in the history of the Guild Wars franchise. Next year is going to be even bigger because of that success.

I’m really proud of the work the team has done and the work our amazing player community who has helped grow competitive PvP just as much as our dev team has and would hate to see that lost in this discussion.

Dear TC, FA, SOS, and all the other wvw communitys out there. I have learned through this experience that we are all one. In life we are interconnected, and whether you are red to me or blue to me I need you as much as you need me. So I thank you last night for the amazing display of sportsmanship and respect for our event. I was the little thief who sat down and danced among all the red names.

Dear Arenanet Devs, To those brave souls that ventured amongst our crazy midst, staying late to attend our event. I can not tell you how much it meant to us all and would of meant to Karril knowing that you and by largely Arena Net cared about a single devoted player that lost his life. I also saw some of your names on the go fund me page, and was in a word speechless. Your profound giving of self to this game and its members constantly is something I can’t even repay.

Dear Karril,

I want you to know that we miss you and I know you were here to see the wondrous things that have come out of all this. We will honor you my Brother and rejoice at each raven that takes wing carrying our messages home to you. Thank you for being my friend and giving so much to the people around you. I will not say goodbye just, see ya later.

Lastly, Please keep the good feelings supporting this gentlemens thread. He to has suffered a loss, His son, another avid GW2 player. I myself will be joining him for his sons BDAY and I hope you all will to!

While I am indeed thrilled that the new system gives defenders more, movement abilities on the map. Less babysitting, I to am concerned about the easily available amounts of defense at thier disposal.

In some ways this makes losing things to enemies even more time sensitive and builds meaning in losing and gaining objectives. However, it definitely does not fit the more relaxed nature of Guild wars as a whole.

Gamers to this game tend to have limited quantities of time to invest and to spend a whole night taking one objective just isnt going to happen.

I am glad to hear there are some buffs your considering to Offensive tactics.

Have you considered tying in buffs to offensive groups based off the Day/night cycles in Guild wars? For example during “Night Time IN GUILDWARS”, White swords take longer to pop up on a Keep or tower? Something of this nature?

If they would work with us and run things by us and actually listen to our constructive feedback you would see a lot less complaining.

Not saying this is always true but, some of the changes that are coming with the guild upgrade system and changes players have been asking for a lot. Yet we still see lots of people saying they don’t like these new changes and it will destroy WvW and so on without even trying. The problem with the golem event is people take the game too seriously sometimes, chill and enjoy the one week event it’s just a game after all. I do agree that the Glicko ratings should not have changed from that event but it was just one week of messed up Glicko. It is not just the players or just ArenaNet both sides are a bit at fault but aren’t trying to help the other. ArenaNet tries to change things up a bit but gets lots of complaints from the players, in turn players suggest things to change it up and they just hesitate because of previous flak.

Yep 100%

They don’t even listen to the constructive feedback is the major issue. How many CDI’s full of constructive feedback were there ?

It was explained that we did not desire the Golem event, and if they were going to go ahead with it, they needed to limit how long it lasted, they ignored it and the die hards didn’t log in for the week.

You can’t put this all on the players, judging by some of the comments made by Anet staff they have proven that they are completely out of touch with their WvW community. Promises that never see the light of day, I think its fair to say some of the WvW players know more about WvW then the devs. If they would work with us and run things by us and actually listen to our constructive feedback you would see a lot less complaining.

I dont put it all on players I start off the post talking about how we are starved for changes.

Secondly your statement that they don’t listen to CDI’s is actually false as I can go look up one right now about siege trolling and the changes that were implemented due to that CDI.

Nightshade.2570

Dear Friends,
I won’t deny that WvW seems to have gotten the least amount of attention over the years. While changes have happened they have been slow coming and just recently started to pick up in the last year.

WvWers have been asking and suggesting changes on this board and in game forever. However, What is ironic about this is that when they do something that changes things alot we behave terribly. The minute we feel like things are changing we beg for the old back. The problem is that the old is boring and more and more people will leave.

We are pretty set in our ways as veteran WvWers and alot of people have lost sight in some way of what is important. I admit I am going to miss the old borderlands but then I am so excited about the new! New players to a game mode are important. Without them, people will leave, which I am sure all of you know more then one person you used to play with that’s gone. Yet there is no one new to replace them.

We have to let change happen and try to help shape it. Let go of what is now and look forward to what is coming.

This is my request to you all and yes I know I am a nobody. But if you care about WvW as I do you will not meet these changes with things like : “this sucks I am quitting” and instead meet them with: “I tried it out and I think you could do this to make it better
Give it a chance even if you don’t think it will work. Feedback constructively given is what they really need right now.

Sincerely,
A WvWer and soon to be Yak Slapper

Reward tracks for participation. More or less based off what you participated in.

And yes lets hope those PVEers come! Cause we all started somewhere!

You can’t have it both ways:
Theres no one to WvW with, our timezones are empty

We dont want those PVEers they don’t know what they are doing

I have such simple words here.

Train the ones that care. Get them to stay, give consistent! Good! rewards. They will then come, stay, and not just pop in and out for events.

The Mesmer bug is too much and should not go unnoticed as long as this necro bug.

I have reported it in game. I am sure many others have. Its also in the necro bugs post that was put together after the big update patch.

It wasnt a big deal before but its rampant now due to the signet builds viability. However it will become even more rampant once the Daemon Malyx revenant skills arrive.

Lose Mid fight - What Next?

in PvP

Posted by: Nightshade.2570

Nightshade.2570

In general losing the mid fight and what you do does depend on a couple things. Losing Mid fight on Foe Fire is a huge loss as you can imagine the points are very close together. So considering the map, your class and how your enemys play style is makes the difference.

If your enemy seems zergish, quickly aiming for points the enemy team isn’t naturally rotating to, or protecting the points you have because you know they are coming there, is often the best method.

Also its important to recognize what lost the mid fight. Is your team out dps’d, does thier DPS outweigh your damage or sustain abilities? Or was it just simply a matter of being outmanned that lost the team fight. These are important clues to your personal decisions.

One night in bay we took down all the walls before we capped the lord.
One day we had a massive 40 v 40 golem fight.
Tonight we are doing a huge server wide golem processional and funeral (cliff jump)to celebrate the end of a very fun golem week.

Been so much fun. So while people have been complaining and hiding from teh golem event we have been having fun.

We have recruited a huge amount of eager to learn new WvWers that have joined our teamspeak and contrary to popular belief stayed with us.

While everyone may not like the golem event, and to each their own, A smart person capitalizes on it.

Cheers!

Constructive feedback and Ideas-Guild Support

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Nightshade.2570

Nightshade.2570

I am sorry if this was put in an inappropriate place. However there is not a section on the forums for guilds and guild changes.

The guild system as it currently stands is very lacking. Currently the Guild system in Guild wars has very little support for the guild. It has appropriate means of adding and removing, titling and building but little to support the guilds function.

I know that with heart of Thorns guilds will be getting Guild halls and there will be overall changes to our upgrade systems ect. There will also be an implementation of cross guild chat features which is outstanding!

1. My first suggestion is that there is an actual forum not for recruiting guilds but for the changes and feedback of what guild leaders/guilds would like to improve or see. This is not an advertisement area but an area that provides an opportunity for discussion.

2. A way to broadcast an announcement to members of your guild.

3. More data availability of repping/ not repping, Active not active. More statistical tools to support guild leaders.

4. More visibility to the guild of when guild leaders/officers are around as well as ways to contact them more easily.

5. A LFG tool that is specific to your guild or designated allied guilds so that members of the guild can create a LFG for just guild members to get teams together for PvP or wvw or dungeons ect.

6. An Alliance option so that you can ally other guilds. With special benefits to the alliance (sharing guild buffs ect)

These are just a few of the thoughts that I have had, that would really enhance and help guilds I am hoping that some of these are already in process!

I also hope others will share their thoughts to!

To strike a fair balance, there is only one sensible, logical solution:

Temporarily Disable all golems until this issue is resolved.

  • Technicaly the golem event would still be ongoing (just without golems)
  • It would be some semblance of communication with the players that this exploit is not ok, and not intended.

Nice try at ending the event early.

3. I actually main necro so I have been toying with a burn guard build and found that while its fun its not the most effective (most guards are running way more bunker now) Most people know how to deal with burn guards now.

I’m just gonna repost this here for those who keep stating “It’s only 1 week”:

Do you really think people are mad about just the golem event? It’s not only the event, it’s that the golem event is a tipping point, the last straw for a lot of people. It’s that the WvW pop feels that Anet doesn’t care about them, the game mode, and is just straight up ignoring them. They’re mad that the president of the company thinks that there aren’t people who ONLY play WvW, that WvW players are really just confused PvE players. They’re mad that there are bugs that have been around for years, and no decent updates or changes to the system.

I get what your saying about a tipping point. I want to see changes in WvW but I also know it wont happen this way. This is how you drive a bigger wedge in.

Constructive criticism is necessary.

I know next week all these angry posts will cut in half, and the next week will be gone. Perhaps you will all get your wish and there wont be anymore events at all ever.

People have so much trouble with change. If this had been approached with open minds it could of been a fantastic event. How dare they put effort into making fun short term changes to mix things up in wvw so that the tons of complaints that nothing ever happens in wvw can finally be heard.

Did you read the entire conversation about this? It’s not about change, it’s about the wrong changes vs. the right changes. Just because they gave us an event doesn’t mean it was a good idea. Again, this was the tip of the iceberg. You’re basically saying that with the neglect of the last two years (really more like 3), we should be happy they give us anything at all. That’s ridiculous, and that sort of logic doesn’t get anything positive done, in any industry.

As for anger driving a wedge, etc., I work in customer service. This is how you get a corporation’s attention when they’re really messing things up. Shutting up won’t do it, and obviously asking nicely hasn’t worked either, or any other method that’s been tried in the last couple of years. This is what you get when you ignore your userbase and make them feel like they don’t matter. It didn’t have to end up this way, but Anet made the WvW pop feel like shouting was the only recourse.

I work in customer service as well, and I personally do not think this is how you get things changed. You do get bad attention though. If someone demanded that people be fired simply because people didn’t like something the company put out, you and I would be out of jobs.

I will just have to respectfully agree to disagree.

People should pop over to the thread that they are looking at requesting thoughts on WvW events and put up some constructive feed back there.

Ideas for other WvW "special events?"

I mainly would suggest that you make events last for a shorter amount of time like over the weekend.

I would also suggest events that revolved around defending, like stacking rewards for holding keeps.

I think those of you clamoring for anyone to get fired for coming up with this event should, grow up.

Participate in the ONE WEEK event or don’t. I shouldn’t be surprised that people are saying such things but I still am.

These are peoples lives, they are trying to do the best they can for you and all of us. Never is it okay to demand someone be fired. Whether its here or in your normal life. That is a horrible thing to do.

The devs do read this, and this only causes a greater divide between Devs and players. What we need is to give constructive feedback.

Perhaps the events should be shorter, perhaps they shouldnt last a whole week.

Thats what you need to bring change. Constructive feedback.

I think people failed to see the hidden benefits to this event.

When ANET first announced this event, I was so happy I knew right away the benefit this could be to world vs. world. However my joy was tempered with the anger I knew I would see here on the boards.

I knew I would see endless posts from people that were angry that they couldnt defend and play the game the same way they play it, day in and day out. Stuck in an endless routine that is slowly loosing people, and not gaining people to outweigh its losses.

I was sadly not wrong as I saw that this thread was already up to 17 pages and most of them are just rages. Somewhere a vast majority of people have lost site as to what is important to, A. them as a player, B. thier guild, And lastly C. WvW.

As a player most people that play MMO’s play them to spend with other people, as a player if you love that game mode then this event is only seeking to ensure that continues.

As a guild, taking this week off of all weeks is foolish. Why? In one night I recruited 20 new to WvW players. Who found this event amazing and wonderful.

If you love WvW your lack of vision and understanding of this event is sad as it is one of those huge moments that allows people to capitalize on new players and give them a taste of WvW in a non stressful light. New wvwers love Golems they give them a feeling of security and seeing the loot that you can abscond with a good golem run encourages them to enjoy and come back to WvW.

This game mode wont survive without new people, and if you think they want to sit inside a tower and a keep defending, thats why we have lost so many up to this point.

It is okay if that is your personal taste. You should of defended with golems? Who says they always have to be offensive. Many of the times my group was overrun was by tactical moves by our enemy to defend with golems.

It was alot of fun, and just something new for a week. Don’t worry it will be back to your preferred playstyle soon I just hope there are still people left for you to play with.

Take a look at T8 if you dont know what its like to play on a server with no one. People arent moving up, they are moving out.

But if we want to recruit new people to WvW, we need to do it with WvW activities and events. All this event does is bring PvE people from PvE and EoTM into WvW to farm for a week- and yeah sure maybe you recruited some new people who are REALLY loving the event. But next week, when all the golems are gone, the super crazy ktraining is gone, and real WvW comes back? All your new recruits are going to get bored and go back to EoTM and PvE land.

Trying to get new players interested in WvW with PvE events is just not going to work. As I said earlier, we need to have WvW-relevant events that bring new people in and show them the good stuff about real WvW. And honestly, even that won’t REALLY work until Anet decides to fix a lot of the big problems with WvW as it is: add better rewards, fix the population imbalances, reward for actual skill, etc.

I am so tired of hearing, All this event brings is PVE people or EOTM people. As if alot of us didnt start there.

I did, I WAS A PVEER! Then I met a supportive guild that taught me how to WvW. I don’t know why people arent willing to see that PVE people are the beginnings of WvW. Pretending that WvWers are > PVEers is silly. There is tactical approaches to both things. You can be hard core about either and be a good player. Anyone willing to devote the time to encourage and teach a pveer often finds a phenomenal WvWer underneath.

I just don’t think people want to take the time to teach others and help them. Where do you get your WvWers from if not from PVE and PVP. Are they suppose to just arrive here from no where?

It’s a good point. However, will they stay?

If the preferred playstyle is something those who like the event were not interested in before, why would they stay once it changes back? Will it cause people to actually be more disillusioned since regular wvw is not as fun for them as the golem event?

Won’t they just show up for a similar event and not play when it is normal rules? Perhaps wvw needs to change. It is entirely possible that I and others like me get left behind and wvw is built for a new generation which is fine.

MMOs evolve over time and sometimes they are no longer a fit. It then becomes the time to move on.

Within Reason, staying is actually on our shoulders. Supporting the new comers comes down the guilds that recruit them. Anet cant control everything and we are the ones that have to do some of the work.

The only thing I want that I think Anet is addressing with guild halls, and guild changes ect, is more guild support.
