It used to hit for 20k on full glass. Those were the days. When high risk = high reward. Now glass cannon ele will be glass slingshot ele. And high risk = mediocre reward that’s a waste of time since auto attacks are safer and do more dps. Needs to go back to what it used to be. same thing with 15k fire grabs.

I’m probably one of the few that doesn’t really care about the hammer. The whole reason i made an engi in the first place is because i wanted a character in a tight leather costume with a big gun. I will never give up my rifle! Never!
why does it censor it to Mokitten? And i agree with the above statement. Puppies need buffs.
We’re supposedly getting the ability to change stats on our ascended gear. Since we can take hidden killer and executioner together, i dont really see the need for full zerk any more. I’ll def be changing the stats on some of my gear to valk or maybe cavalier. Depends on how much the stats will change afterwards anyway.
I really wanted rifle at first. Wanted to make a character that was like the ghost from Starcraft. But now, i’m kinda hoping for offhand sword. A blademaster class with super fast attacks that let you get behind your opponent and cut through their defenses? Sounds more fun than rifle to me. And i just like the idea of using 2 swords on thief.
i’d rather they keep the stupidly long cast time and double or quadruple the damage it does. If you’re dumb enough to get hit by the most highly telegraphed and easiest to dodge and interrupt attack in the game, you deserve to get 1 shotted. You will never, ever hit any semi conscious decent player with it.
You can have our crappy burn on crit trait that no one uses anyway if we can have some life leech on crit that no necros use anyway. A perfectly fair trade. I’d much rather have the lifesteal on crit than the burn on crit. Or even the chill dealing damage trait that reaper will get. I’d love for people than poke my frost aura to kill themselves on it.
We definitely need the cooldowns on our survival skills like arcane shield, mist form, etc. drastically reduced to make up for this. Halved at least.
And its real great that engi, that has 1 million blocks and ways of defending themselves can take a trait that gives them 50% better endurance regen and still have high uptime on vigor essentially giving them the current unnerfed form of vigor. The only reason adrenal implant doesnt stack with vigor now is because endurance regen caps at 100%. It will add together after the changes and the implant will stack with vigor. Where’s ele’s perma endurance regen trait that stacks with vigor when we need it WAY more than engi does?
Buy your energy sigils now before the price skyrockets. They’ll be mandatory now meaning we have to give up a sigil slot we cant afford to give up.

Can we please get some changes to our elite skills to make them actually worth using? There’s nothing elite about them currently. In duels, i’ll always take my racial skills instead because they’re just flat out better than the class elites. Racial elites are better than our class elites! Elite skills on other classes are game changers. They can shift the odds in your favor in an outnumbered fight. Ours…..not so much.
FGS is terrible in an actual fight, it lowers your dps by using it. Its only good for running away. An elite that lets us run away the way a warrior can without having to burn an elite skill hardly feels elite worthy to me. The damage needs a buff. the #2 is pretty crappy. Maybe you can change it to make a lava font or a fiery 100b that also burns?
The elementals are crap too. They die way too easily and barely do any damage. They need health and damage pumped up.
Tornado is just a big suicide button. Maybe you can change it into a glyph and make it an elite glyph of storms? Its terrible as a transformation skill since it just makes you a gigantic target. I’d rather have a ground targeted tornado i can drop somewhere as an area denial spell. If you insist on keeping it a transform though, you should be invulnerable or atleast take reduced damage and reflect projectiles while doing it. And it should suck things in as well just not knock down, its a tornado after all.
Right now our elites are just the worst out of all classes. They need to be game changing skills that shift the battle into your favor like supply crate, or moa, thieves guild, or rampage which are pretty much instant win buttons in a 1 on 1 fight.
The p/d scrubs are bad enough already. It’s not just thieves though, theres some pretty sickening changes to condi builds on other classes, except necro that got kinda shafted oddly enough being the condi class. I was hoping condi builds across all classes would be nerfed into oblivion seeing how they wanted to make things more diversified and skillful with the changes. Anet likes passive easymode stuff though it seems.
What? I cant wait to play with that thing. How could you not like it? Its possibly one of the best changes to happen to engi. No one uses mortar at all now, these changes will def make me pick it over grenade kit now, especially with the changes to grenades. Im sure they’ll tweak the skills since it will become a kit, i doubt theyll leave the skills as is. But it couldnt possibly be worse than it is now.
Litany is terrible though and no one uses it.
^nothing is really changing unless you ran SA traitline. its mainly the blind on stealth trait that everyone is annoyed about. I mean you can live without it, but it def made life alot easier.
As a solo player, I couldnt care less about this trait. It’s something i’ve never used when you used to have to pick it, and now its replacing something that was actually useful to me. I’d rather have bountiful power back. Let the healers pick it if they want, its a useless trait that will never see any use from me. Anything there would be better unless they change this to affect you too and not just allies. I’d rather they take the heal on dodge off of evasive arcana and put that there instead of this useless trait. Hell, even something like arcane abatement would be better there. Theyre trying to force ele into a support role, and i did not make an ele to play a freaking cleric.

I will say this as a sign of possible hope. We don’t know how it will shake out exactly, but they are messing with how conditions work in a way that might make a condi-heavy DD build, focused on stacking poisons and bleeds with 1 and 3, might actually be worth using, rather than a backstab heavy one. I would welcome this possibility.
True, that is a possibility. Something that I might be okay with provided they set it up right. In fact, I might even prefer it since we wouldn’t be forced into the “D/P lite” role. At the end of the day, I just want to be able to continue playing the D/D set viably. If we can do that with conditions and without CiS then I’m okay with that. The issue is if they take CiS away but still leave the set as burst DPS. I’d need more info on the changes to conditions before I can rule one way or the other on that one.
EW nooo! I hope not. Condi builds are so cheesy. I hope D/D doesnt turn into another easymode P/D cheesefest weaponset. I play D/D to burst suckers down, thats the fun in it for me. Please dont give them any ideas on buffing cheesy condi builds, they need to be nerfed on all classes, not improved.
Eh i could always go back to S/P if they destroy D/D badly enough, its what i originally started with on thief anyway but gravitated more towards D/D at some point. They just did this to screw me over after i went through the trouble of making Incinerator. They’re killing D/D on thief and on ele. My friends said “make Bolt instead, youll regret it!” and look what happened. Sword builds will be better on thief, and ele is getting sword in the expansion. kitten it.
They did it to, presumably, kill off the Air tree. Nothing else makes sense,
Anet feels that ele isn’t allowed to do damage. support the other more important classes with fields and boons. that will be our only function. if you want to play damage, play any other class. That’s what Anet is trying to tell us.

I’m most looking forward to what that f5 on mortar can do. Looks like it would be easy to avoid in a small fight but in a large scale fight it could be devastating. I’m pretty sure engi will replace ele considering the massive nerfs to core ele skills.
Engy will maybe move alongside eles as support but the core ele wvw skills arent really changing,
As someone who mains ele, i’m gonna tell you that you couldn’t be more wrong. Ele’s survival and damage is going in the crapper. Engi absolutely will replace ele, theres no doubt about that. A few will remain that don’t mind being mindless field generating bots. But on a competitive level, ele will be a liability to have with you like it was before cele was introduced. With just zerging, it probably wont make much of a difference, but as far as gvg or anything like that goes, engi will be the far better choice.

yeah i’d like to know about that too. If they are nerfing it, hopefully its just the pvp amulet theyre nerfing and not the gear people spent time and money crafting, cuz that would just be a huge F you to all of us that bothered crafting that crap. I only use a few pieces to boost up my healing to a number im satisfied with, without losing too many other stats. Celestial is already pretty crap for ele in wvw compared to mixing stats. If it gets nerfed, it wont be worth using at all and I might as well replace those few pieces with cleric or zealots. and I really, really don’t want to craft any more ascended gear…I hate crafting or having to farm pve to pay for it.
With the buffs to all other classes and the gigantic nerfs to ele, we will definitely go back to being the weakest and most unwanted class in the game. I guess we’ll just have to wait a year till we’re viable again.
Well i guess looking at this from a positive aspect, look how things turned out for us in the past. Ele got overnerfed when other classes got buffed, ele fell completely out of the meta, which WILL happen again when these changes go live. Ele was superbuffed surpassing other classes after being out the meta for a long time. It will happen again. We’ll be useless in the next meta, then after the next patch, they’ll overbuff us because they are too dumb to listen to people that actually play the class and change things that dont need to be changed just for the sake of change. Engi will replace staff ele, thief and mes have always been superior to burst ele. We’ll have no place so theyll need to buff us later on if they dont listen to us now.
Healing aura is what they should change it to. Rather than a cone in front of you, just a pulsating aura in a radius around your body.
I doubt they will get rid of racials altogether, and things like mistfire wolf (people paid for that one, I don’t see it going away). They’ll probably just be unlocked from the start and wont have an unlock track like the class skills.

Why not just delete elemental contingency and move elemental attunement to that spot and find some crap trait to fill in for the missing grand master because we all know we are going to take evasive arcana over any final trait in that line?
Because since both EA’s are crucial for eles, they will have to choose. A great argument, right?
That’s the sorry excuse they used for this nerf for eles, yet contradicted themselves by giving other crucial, always picked traits on other classes as BASELINE or moving the traits around so you didn’t have to decide between 2 good traits and get to take both (like thief being able to take hidden killer AND executioner together now, mes with IP baseline), yet we get to CHOOSE between our crucial traits. Real fair right? Given the changes to other classes, it absolutely should be baseline for ele. That would be more than fair considering the buffs to all the other classes. At the very least, a self only version of it should be baseline and maybe make a stronger version a gm trait that affects allies. Any kind of DPS ele will die with this change. Be prepared to play nothing but boring bunker specs if this goes live, as it will be the only viable thing to play if we cant have both Evasive Arcana and Elemental attunement together. Yay for build diversity! back down to 1 build for eles.

well to be honest i’d love to see condi duration go extinct as condi builds were waaaay too OP in 1 vs 1 scenarios. Boon duration though always felt too weak to me and if anything should have been buffed. condis lasted way too long for how easy they are to reapply, and boons were way too short considering the long cooldowns on boon applying skills. hopefully they balance that out.
Is it me or we are all hoping that the Tempest spec will save us?
one can only hope. start saving up mats to make your ascended sword now, since current ele will be crapped all over.
My hopes of life siphoning finally becoming a viable competitive build, shot to hell. life siphon will still suck, and not in a good way.

All we can do now is hope they see this and realize they’re doing the same thing they almost did last time with elemental attunement and renewing stamina. They listened to reason last time, so maybe there’s hope we can talk sense into them and stop them from doing this. This change will not promote diversity, it will limit it. I dont really feel like having to run around in a boring tanky earth, water, arcane build, like pretty much every ele will be running if this change happens. i’d rather just take arcane and go fire and air. It will be impossible to do that without both elemental attunement and evasive arcana together, because you will have close to no survival with that.
Given how they like to take things out without compensation usually, its probably safe to assume we’re just losing boon duration altogether and will have to get gear or runes with boon duration. Maybe they’ll buff boon duration runes? Either way, as someone who spends most of their time playing guardian and ele, i’m worried about this.

which is made completely irrelevant by the fact burst ele will have even less survivability than it has now. Who cares how strong they make air and fire when you’ll be dead before you get to use it? Why do you think fresh air ele right now is nothing more than a gimicky build that isnt really viable in high level play? Have you seen the boosts other classes are getting? We’ll still be outdone by med guards and thieves and mesmers as far as burst builds go. They’ll have more survivability and more damage. med guard gets all its med traits rolled into 1. how nice that we have to PICK between our important traits rather than them getting all rolled into 1. All the important traits that other classes had to pick to make builds viable became baseline for them. Ele is the only one that got screwed in that regard by being forced to pick the important traits rather than having them as baseline.

Yea, you only lose defense AND offense and gain completely useless major traits in arcana. Such a buff.
What? Evasive Arcana is good and all, but a permanent 20% decrease in received damage is a trade I’ll make any given day. Landing any other on-dodge spell other than to heal myself or blast Might just happens because I need to dodge something crucial and just so happen to be positioned to dodge into a foe. I’m not someone who swaps into Earth Attunement and Water Attunement and normally has to wait for endurance regeneration to dodge.
Playing ele in spvp and playing it in wvw are 2 completely different things. Go roam solo for a bit in wvw and you’ll see why the rest of us are so upset about this horrible change. See how long you last without having both evasive arcana and elemental attunement.

well this is coming from the perspective of a wvw player who hates spvp and never touches it. it is a massive nerf to ele in wvw.
No compensation unfortunately. just a loss in dps. Theyre also nerfing ice bow and lightning hammer. warrior will go back to being top dog in dps as far as pve goes.

Honestly, I only play Celestial D/D in PvP (it’s the only thing I actually enjoy playing there), and losing Evasive Arcana while gaining Geomancer’s Defense is hands-down a massive buff. That said, with Blasting Staff becoming baseline, I might touch my Elementalist in PvE again… then again, maybe not. Pre-stacking might in dungeons always feels like one big chore for me whereas pulling it off in PvP just comes from proper positioning during skill rotations.

That’s spreading your defense way too thin to begin with. Any Elementalist spec that isn’t Earth/Water/Arcane will lose to any Celestial D/D spec that is. Forgoing not one but two of those defensive trait lines is just not competitive.

That symbol trait plus the immobilize on VoJ active should work wonders for GS builds. I might actually have to put Eternity back on my guardian.
I’m in the process of making Eternity. Been holding off though in case theres a cooler looking sword in the expansion. Either way, i’m gonna need a new gs for this. I started using s/torch and scepter/focus instead. def going back to using gs for the symbols. I might even drop the s/f and take hammer instead now.
