Maybe they purposely made arcana line suck now to make the new specialization line more appealing? Maybe as sword eles we’ll get something similar to elemental attunement and evasive arcana. either way, I still think elemental attunement (affecting the ele only and not allies) should be baseline. Just look at what mes is getting as baseline now. Its more than fair for us to get a self only elemental attunement as baseline. and if they insist on having a version as a gm trait, make the gm trait more powerful and affect allies. id rather have a weaker self only version than not have it at all. I’m a solo player anyway so I could care less about buffing party members.

Wait, what happened with infusion? Cuz that trait is pretty much crucial in wvw. Seeing how I run d/d in wvw i’m losing my blind on stealth and infusion as well? I could live without infusion but the loss of blind on stealth will hurt.

affects on dodge aren’t inherent to any class. would you want Mesmer to have clone on dodge naturally or thief with caltrops on dodge naturally? I for one would much rather have elemental attunement inherent to the class and have to pick the on dodge traits. And BATMAN is right. We get them to change their minds before when they tried to butcher the class by moving renewing stamina and elemental attunement to the same line, we can do it again. Its clear whoever made this decision has never played ele.

^that’s the problem though. This doesn’t open up more build diversity, it limits it. You’ll HAVE TO go earth, water and arcana on d/d ele. I was really hoping i’d be able to spec more into the offensive traitlines like air and fire finally, but without the protection and regen on attunement swap+evasive arcana, youll be way too easy to kill. Elemental attunement needs to be baseline just for the ele only. make the trait have it affect allies. it should have been this way from day 1 anyway, this is their chance to finally make it happen.

maybe we can convince them that this is a stupid idea? We managed to open their eyes last time when they wanted to put renewing stamina and elemental attunement both in master. We have to convince them again it seems that they’ll be hurting the ele a lot by doing this.

It seems like D/D ele will be getting a huge nerf. Its mainly the extra heal i’ll miss from EA though. Maybe I can throw on a renewal sigil to make up for that and still take elemental attunement, either that or i’ll be forced to take elemental contingency and EA.

The master traits in arcana seem really horrible though. hopefully they’ll change their mind and move elemental attunement down to master. Didn’t they say at one point in the past they considered making it baseline since it was so key to all ele builds? howd they go from that to making it a gm trait? It would have been much better to make elemental attunement baseline but only affect the ele and have the trait make it also affect allies. that’s how I would have changed it anyway.

On the plus side, it seems like staff might become viable for roaming solo with some of the changes. all the traits in earth to make you super survivable against thieves, along with all the air traits and lightning rod. i’ll definitely play around with it a bit.

Im not denying its good in pvp. Im just saying on that particular map, warrior is light years ahead. If you pop fgs, you drop the orb. If you teleport, you drop the orb. Warrior can freely use all of their skills including rampage and still hold the orb. And the whole reason rtl was nerfed in the first place was because of that stupid map and the orb running. it just doesnt seem fair that they havent reverted rtl considering that after certain changes they made to warrior, it put warrior way ahead of pre rtl nerf ele in terms of mobility on that map.

I’d just like to be able to use a different elite skill when roaming in wvw aside from one thats only good for running away. using something thats actually useful in combat would be nice. But until they revert rtl, we will always be forced to take fgs no matter what. So it doesnt even matter if we do end up getting a decent new elite skill. It will never be taken over fgs because you need the mobility to escape zergs. you used to be able to go without it, but cant anymore. I’d love it if they removed all the mobility skills from fgs and made it useful in actual combat in exchange for unnerfing rtl and putting it back at 15s cooldown and 1500 range.. Give us a firey hundred blades or something.

^I have a shoutheal build for my warrior specifically to abuse that level in spvp. Unless the entire other team focuses on me, they will not stop me from taking the orb and getting to a point. Ele can’t even come close to being as good at running the orb as warrior is even if they did revert rtl. its not even a contest. You just need gs and s/warhorn traited for warhorn skills to remove condis. Fear me and shake it off are enough to keep you healed and keep people off of you combined with all the passive healing warrior already has. You dont even need 3 shouts. you could take dolyak sig as the 3rd utility. And rampage wont make you drop the orb. that combined with melandru runes and dogged march, good luck stopping me. Ele cant even come close to that.

Hoping we just end up with a build similar to med guard with great sustain that can blow people up in a split second. Fresh air s/f is fun and pretty decent, but too easily countered by anyone with half a brain that can dodge and make you waste your burst leaving you helpless afterwards. Rev gets a mistform-like skill that they can attack people with on their sword. Why would they not give that to ele instead? That’s our skill kitten it.

I seriously hope that in the expansion ele will get an abundant amount of resistance boon. Then maybe we wont be so hard countered by condi builds and not have to run that crappy diamond skin trait that makes us useless against any non condi build. Not being forced to spec for max condi clears, and take holebrak runes and the super expensive lemongrass food, and STILL be hard countered despite all that would be nice.

I used to use strength but switched to hoelbreak awhile ago. Don’t regret it at all. The extra 5% damage is nothing compared to the survivability the -condi duration gives you. Everyone and their dog is running some kind of easy mode condi cheese build these days anyway, so you need the – condi if you want to survive while roaming. I even keep running into condi guardians with perplexity runes. never thought i’d see that happen.

So many white knights here defending this. I don’t find it enjoyable. It makes the game unplayable for me. I’m simply asking for an option to turn it off for myself. How does that take away from the people that do find it fun? I have to sit through something i dont enjoy or just not play at all so other people can have fun? sounds fair. I really dont think having the option to turn these things off for myself is too much to ask for.

Not all of us find stuff like this fun. Alot find it extremely aggravating and distracting. It should be optional. A simple toggle switch so those that enjoy this crap can have it, and those of us that hate it dont have to deal with it isnt too much to ask for. You’d think they would have learned after last year with the bobbleheads. Its extremely distracting in combat. I’d like to have the option to disable it. Why should i have to just not play for a day just so some people can have fun? why is their fun any more important than mine?

I’m still trying to grasp how the thief was doing huge burst and condi damage to you with a sword. I’m probably the last person who would defend thieves on this forum, but in this case i’d have to say you guys just didnt understand the class you were fighting against too well and just got outplayed.

Power based thieves arent much of a threat these days anyway since the ferocity nerf. Its the p/d condi spam thieves that are op as hell. But thats not a problem of just thieves alone. condis are overpowered in small scale fights in general and all classes have some ez mode cheese condi build with crap like perplexity runes and dire stats only making it worse.

Yeah i know. Tera and EVE are good ones though. Those are the only decent ones i can think of. The rest are pretty horrid. Oh yeah, Aion too. Almost forgot about that one. 3 good examples. Point is, its not a common occurrence for high quality, non-pay to win games to have free expansions, so don’t expect it to happen.

They should just revert immob bock to how it was before. Atleast before it stacked, it wasn’t a guaranteed death sentence if you got immobilized in midair. And its not just jumping that can cause it. Leap skills, and anything that pushes or pulls you can also cause you to be immobilized in midair. atleast before it was stackable you had a chance to get out of it if it happened to you. The immob change is unwelcome anyway even without the bug.

its because of the stability change. Remember when they said “we can’t increase the AoE cap, more numbers is more calculations, the server cant handle it! blah blah blah!” So what do they do? The add in more numbers that the server has trouble calculating and cant handle! Great job Anet. Revert stability and increase the kitten AoE cap instead like you claimed you couldnt do, but obviously can because you were able to add in more numbers with the stability change. Atleast the AoE cap increase would be a welcome change that people have actually been asking for.

Then 1 sec later the servers are set on fire becuse of all the data streaming lol. Though that is a funny ideal i would love to see it one day as a bug hehe.

There is no way that they could let crazy high stack work in wvw with out simply killing the servers the lag would be imposable to deal with.

They refused to increase the AoE cap when we asked for it so smaller groups could wipe blobs easier. Their excuse being “blah blah blah, calculations, blah blah blah, will cause too much lag! blah blah blah, servers cant handle it!” If they increase the bleed cap after refusing to increase AoE cap we know they were purely full of complete BS about upping the AoE cap and just didnt want to do it for whatever kittened reason. Who knows, maybe they dont like the idea of small groups outplaying mindless blobs and killing them. makes casuals rage quit when less people wipe their blobs.

PU mes isnt fun for the other person to fight against. Even if you can kill them, it’s not satisfying. Its an aggravating experience to fight a PU mes.

Wah! You guys are making me sad. I enjoy PU Mes when I’ve played so far – but are there other solid condition builds that aren’t quite so “frustrating” like you said?

Any input from a Mesmer that runs PU in WvW? Do you find this is true? That you mostly just have people running from you….?

Condi builds in general aren’t fun to fight against no matter the class. Atleast not for me. I generally just ignore anyone if i see corruption stacks or condi food on them. Dire armor so the can facetank everything you do against them and not even have to react to what you do while they 111111 and put condis on you non stop from passive procs while you have to play carefully and try to counter everything they do, isn’t a satisfying experience.

If you want to be really mean use a thief thief or mesmer mesmer team and while creating said players use same race and outfits/characteristics so they LOOK identical.

we have 2 mesmers that do that on our server. They always play together and make sure to keep their wvw rank identical as well to further add to the confusion.

What is this supposed to mean? That it’s too cheesy and other players won’t even engage?

This hasn’t been my experience thus far in WvW (minimal experience, though). Is this the case in other people’s experience? There are plenty of terribly cheesy builds that I still engage with (D/P Thief, Turret Engineer) – so just because generally the builds are “easy” to play doesn’t mean I’ll run away from them.

I have no pity for FA. You all brought the long queue times upon yourself. That’s what happens when you buy guilds so you can have 24/7 coverage on all borderlands. Running into a 80 man blob of FA no matter which borderland i port to is not fun. Can’t wait till the day FA finally implodes when all the bandwagoners decide to hop.

But for now, the only way we can get them balanced in wvw is you do have to deal with the ridiculous crap we do. so, im still in favor of dire and perplexity in pvp just so we no longer have to suffer alone.

That’s the exact reason why they SHOULD be added to spvp. So it can finally get the nerfs it deserves in wvw. Pretty much everyone in wvw is a condi bunker with perplexity. something needs to be done about it. And anet doesnt give a crap about wvw, so the only way we can see this OP crap nerfed is if they put it into spvp. So i’m all in favor of adding dire and perplexity in for the sole purpose of them being nerfed finally.

Still bugged. Hasn’t been working properly ever since it was nerfed to no longer be able to use skills while in mist form. When traited with cleansing water and soothing disruption, it used to cure a condition when you activated mist form. it no longer does that. It still gives the regen and vigor, but it does not cure a condition when you gain regen from it.

1 of my thieves is asura because alot of the thief animations just look hilarious when done by a midget (go ahead, use pistol whip and tell me that isn’t funny). The other 1 is a bald human male that i made look like the guy from Hitman. Even managed to snag the name Forty Seven. Now if only I could get my hands on a nice silver pistol skin with a silencer.

I’ve always hated this trait. It’s gotten me killed more than it has ever saved me. I love the idea of it turning into some sort of skill that would pop up that you could choose whether or not to activate it. The way it is now, i’d rather just not have it at all. Hell, just making it give aegis or regen instead would be infinitely better than what it does now.

It’s the same reason i never use Hard to Catch. it’s just as bad and often does more harm than good. I quickly learned how terrible that trait was when i got teleported out of a stun and right into another opponent’s aoe and died a meaningless death. Never touched that trait again.

Hard to catch would be good if it had the little targeting thing pop up and let you choose where you wanted to teleport to. Right now it’s the same as Last Refuge, and will get you killed most of the time cuz it activates when you don’t want it to and you have no control over it.

I’m hoping for dual wield pistols, or dual wield focus. I cant be the only one who wants to be able to hold 2 Anomalies. Mostly hoping for pistols though if it will be as cool as the gun mages from the final fantasy games.

^exactly. In some older MMOs, bosses would enrage when they got low on health and their attack patterns would completely change. Monster Hunter does something similar to that as well. That’s actual difficulty, not the fake difficulty we have in this game by them making classes weaker and buffing the stats of monsters that all are just boring giant hp sponges with no interesting mechanics. They could always try something like that. That would be actual difficulty, not fake difficulty from just making a an already easy fight boring by making it longer. You make it longer, you don’t make it harder. It only seems harder because it takes so kitten long, you get tired, fingers cramp up, etc. That’s a horrible way to design a game.

Something taking longer doesn’t make it harder. It just makes it more boring, which leads to people looking for ways to skip and exploit things to reduce the amount of time they spend doing boring content. So no, this wont make dungeons harder. They need to improve enemy AI and stop nerfing all the fun stuff and making it more boring than it already is.

^The last thing that was needed was a nerf to might. Its hard enough already to burst down a condi bunker, that can not only outdamage you, but also out tank you if you’re using a power build. Condi builds never relied on might anyway to be op, power builds did. this is an indirect buff to already op condi bunkers.

yeah this pretty much forces anyone that wasnt using celestial into using celestial. They never think these things through. Non celestial ele was extremely mediocre and underpowered in spvp. They add in celestial amulet and suddenly ele is op. What’s the solution? nerf ele as a whole rather than nerf celestial making celestial mandatory now because the underpowered non celestial specs that couldn’t compete before against other classes in spvp and will be even weaker now.

These changes should be pvp ONLY. Totally unnecessary nerfs for wvw where condi bunkers are already dominant. These nerfs just further widen the gap between power builds and OP condi bunkers that can already burst as hard as zerker specs without any of the risk and without the need of might.

Anet doesn’t seem to understand the risk vs reward concept. This is just going to kill ele for anything competitive unless you use an easy mode signet condi build and just sit in earth spamming 1. And where’s the fun in that? Anet seems to want to remove anything that takes any sort of effort to use and reward mindless no-skill gameplay. Everyone become a condi bunker, that’s basically what this patch is saying.

They REALLY need to fire the current balance team because they clearly have no clue what they’re doing. All the stuff they changed was only a problem in spvp so why not confine these idiotic changes to spvp only since that was the source of all the whining to begin with?

See, this is why i was always against the reward tracks in spvp to begin with. All the pvers go in there to get loot now and get destroyed by things they don’t understand, then whine and ask for nerfs on things that don’t need to be nerfed.

More and more, Anet is beginning to remind me of Blizzard. And not in a good way. I’m sure some of you remember Jay Wilson and how badly he screwed up D3 with all his asinine changes that he never thought through and refused to listen to the community and was ruinning Blizzards reputation before they wised up and fired his kitten . Yeah, that’s pretty much Anet’s current balance team. A bunch of Jay Wilsons.

For some reason mistform will not trigger the cleansing water trait. It still triggers soothing disruption and gives regen and vigor, but will not cure a condition.

Don’t run with the zerg so i have no reason to hear the idiots on my server. The only people i can tolerate are in my guild, and we use skype. And even they wear on my nerves after awhile so i mute them and put on music while i’m playing. I don’t like people. Valid enough reason?
