I’m fine with these changes as long as they stay confined to spvp only. Anet never seems to understand that there needs to be separate balance changes for spvp and wvw. What’s OP in one mode is sometimes crappy in another mode and vice versa and they usually never take that into account when making changes. These changes would be decent in spvp but completely unnecessary and class crippling outside of spvp where builds that other classes have that aren’t viable in spvp but totally op in wvw already completely hard counter cele ele and engi.

Dont know if this is even the right place to put this. I was just curious as to why i was just forced to rename one of my characters. Blood Stained Child. I see nothing wrong with that, its named after a band. I don’t even see why anyone would have a problem with that.

At this point i’d be happy for ANY changes at all to shield. The only time i’ve ever used mine is when i want to troll a stealth thief and knock him out of SR with the bubble. Shield is pretty much useless on guardian, which is a shame because there are alot of nice looking shields in the game.

What i’d really like would be an elite worthy version of that one skill you got in aspect arena from the fire aspect thing, Unstable Nova. But our version would also rip boons from the target in addition to sucking them into a gravity well. Or rip conditions off of you and spread them to anyone that gets sucked into it. An arcane laser cannon would be nice too. Just a giant beam we shoot out that always crits. our “oh crap i need to nuke them fast before i die” button.

People got used to eles and engi being free kills, and now that they have to exert the tiniest bit of effort and can’t just spam 1 anymore to kill them, they cry for nerfs. There are several hard counters for them that completely shut them down, people don’t want to adapt and expect to faceroll everything with the same build. “I don’t want to change my build even though doing so can completely make all of my opponent’s effort trivial and completely shut them down, so please nerf them so it’s easy for me again.” That’s all this is a case of.

At this point i don’t really care if they nerf it as long as the nerfs are confined to spvp only. Ele and engi certainly arent OP in wvw. They’re viable and thats about it, but are easily hard countered by several builds on other classes. . WvW is still primarily dominated by PU mesmers, permastealth thieves, and super regen warriors that do zerker damage and somehow take almost no damage and can never be caught if you chase them. And celestial is pretty trash in wvw as you can mix stats there and mixing stuff is generally better than celestial.

The problem with ele in spvp is that their hard counters aren’t viable in conquest. They do have several hard counters, but no one is running any of them in spvp. You can’t cap while stealthed, and kiting someone off point means you lose, so no point in using the things that can hard counter ele and engi in conquest mode. If we ever get a deathmatch mode in spvp however, yeah ele and engi would be at the bottom of the food chain.

Anyway, my point is if you have to nerf it, keep the nerfs confined to spvp. I’m tired of a game mode i rarely ever play so heavily impacting the game mode i do play and throwing off what little balance there is in wvw.

Nice job. I used to run something very similar to this a long time ago, but quit using it after the ferocity nerf. i couldn’t stand the lower damage. I do miss the better survivability though compared to what i’m currently using.

Thanks for doing this man!. I always thought pack would be best for s/f ele but I’m wondering if rage would be better? I mean when I swap to air I get fury so each one of my fresh air bursts will get a damage bonus. thoughts?

I could actually answer that one. Rage is actually really good for burst builds. I haven’t used them on ele yet, but they work great on a med guardian with the fury on meditation trait. They actually work better than scholar runes. I would assume the same would be true for a burst ele since you wont be stacking might anyway.

I guess i could always get some exotic armor and see if i like it rather than replacing the runes on my ascended gear. I could always salvage it and get the runes back atleast. Sometimes I wish we had a system similar to spvp but only for the runes and sigils, not the armor since i like mixing different types of armor. Just pay a 1 time cost in gold to unlock runes and sigils, then be able to swap them anytime we want for free. it would be so convenient.

Hmm. i was actually just about to ask if it would be worth getting rid of my strength runes for hoelbrak since i pretty much only run into condi bunkers when roaming alone. I thought it would be a huge loss in dps if i did and was trying to decide if it was worth it or not. Doesn’t seem like a huge difference though. So thanks for this.

I mean, is it really noticeable anyway if i’m running lemongrass and the hoelbrak runes too for 60% reduction? I use them on my warrior, but warrior is so tanky and has so many blocks, invulnerables, etc that its hard to tell if the runes actually make a difference or its just the warrior’s natural survivability that lets me pretty much ignore conditions.

No, it doesnt. Ele doesnt need any nerfs at all. It actually needs buffs because there are still several things wrong with the class. Is everyone forgetting how terrible ele was before they added in the celestial amulet and strength runes to spvp? Well the problems ele had before they added those in still exist, nothing has changed with that. Take out the celestial amulet or strength runes from spvp, and ele goes back to being the crap class that no one wants on their team. The problem isnt with the class itself, which still has many, many problems that were never addressed before they put that amulet in, its with the celestial amulet and strength runes, which by the way are available to everyone. So before you ask to butcher a class even further thats already bad without being carried by that amulet, maybe you should think about that.

Cant believe a necro would have a problem beating an ele. Necros pretty much hard counter eles IF they know what they’re doing. Chill shuts down eles hard. Just wait till after they go out of water to bomb them and then nail them with chill and condi bomb them. Most important thing is to keep chill on them as much as possible because that pretty much destroys their entire class mechanic. And dont try to blow all your fears hoping to burst them down in one go, you’ll lose every time if you do that. save a fear for when they use ether renewal and they’re screwed.

That makes no sense. Temporary summoned weapons should be better than normal weapons BECAUSE they’re only temporary, and you give up all your normal skills by picking one up. Warrior logic, pffft. Also, as long as we’re talking about conjured weapons, how come they gave guardian spirit shield a stunbreak but didnt give one to earth shield? That change would make that useless skill actually worth slotting for once. and they should buff ice bow’s rapid fire-like skill to be on par with the new ranger rapid fire.

Yep, you’re right. It’s no longer affected by swiftness. Another stealth nerf or hopefully just a bug. Dont know why they would nerf it. as far as movement goes, it’s essentially the same as warrior GS skills, and those are affected by swiftness. Didn’t they change it so #4 isnt affected by immobilize? Cuz im sure some fool will try to use that as justification for it not being affected by swiftness. I only need to point out “mobile strikes” on warrior and the fact that FGS is an elite on a 3 min cooldown that is now ONLY useful for running away since the damage is so horrid you’re better off auto attacking. Nerfing the damage to the point that its not worth taking over a racial skill and also nerfing the movement would make FGS the absolute worst skill in the entire game. If they insist on making this skill weaker and weaker, they’d better drastically reduce the cooldown. even at a 45 second cooldown it would still be pretty terrible in its current state.

With this set up you have burst. You do not have some of the following:

Sustain
Disengage
Condi clear
Invuln

Actually, youre quite wrong on that. I have about 12 seconds of invulnerability, enough condition clear to keep me alive against most people, greatsword as a swap gives me plenty of disengage, and sustain isn’t an issue when the enemy is dead long before i get hurt enough for it to matter.

Don’t get me wrong, i’m not saying they should nerf the damage. Rangers deserved a decent viable power build. But, the damage to rapid fire is comparable to churning earth. CE however has a 45 sec cooldown and requires you to be right next to your opponent to do damage with it and is stupidly easy to dodge even in a big fight. Rangers should be able to deal high damage from range, because they’re rangers, but not that often. Something hitting that hard should have a higher cooldown. That’s all thats really needed. just increase the cooldown of rapid fire, do not nerf the damage. Being able to hit people for 12k every 8 seconds is a little ridiculous. It’s bad enough thieves can do that.

As usual in an effort to make WvW players not feel left out of the “feature” pack, the dev had to make something for WvW. It was obviously a rushed thing and the consequences of it havent even been thought through.

As someone else has said in another thread, once a grenade has been used on a siege, it should have a buff which either prevents it from being affected again, or as the person suggested, the grenade increases the cooldowns of skills so it takes longer to bring down a gate. Complete disablement which can be spammed over and over again is just a broken mechanic.

They haven’t done this for conditions, which are also OP as hell, what makes you think they would put in a buff for traps that prevents spamming and immediate reapplication?

It was ridiculous how warriors could keep ressing the lord over and over again making it impossible for a small force to capture something sometimes before the zerg shows up. But, removing it completely is terrible. You should be able to res the lord, just not indefinitely. 3 times would be good enough, the same as with players. You res a downed player 3 times, they die outright the 3rd time they drop. That would have been good enough to stop it from being as ridiculous as it was without ruining it like they did. This was a bad change that really screws over defenders.

i’d be happy if they buffed #5 on it. it does significantly less damage than ice storm on ice bow, and FGS is an elite. i think its #5 skill deserves a damage buff especially after the massive nerf on #4 which makes it pretty useless as an elite except to have a runaway skill you can use every 3 mins. As far as elites go, you’re better off using the racial elites now. Yes, racial elites are significantly better than all ele elite skills now. Didnt Anet say long ago they didn’t want racial skills to outshine profession skills? Well, they messed up, because they do now.

Our elites are trash outside of using them for their so called “unintended functionality”. Elite skills should change the tide of battle, like Moa Morph for example. None of ours fit that. So yes, in a heartbeat, i’d slot another utility instead if we were allowed. Pretty sad that as trashy as most of our utilities are, I’d still rather use one of them than our elites. That just shows what a bad state alot of ele skils are in and how the dev team has no clue what they’re doing.

I’ll be fine with them nerfing the hell out of fgs if it means buffing our weapon skills and base damage. the fact is we’re too reliant on it. You pretty much HAVE to take FGS because mobility is so poor without it as is damage on builds with any kind of survivability. But, this is anet we’re talking about. we won’t get buffs as compensation if they nerf it, they’ll just nerf it and leave it at that then we go back to people not wanting eles and then they come to the forums and ask whats wrong, and we give them tons of idea that they completely ignore and we eventually come up with a new build that gets us back in the meta and they nerf that and the process begins again.

They really do need to fire the current balance team and hire someone who has some experience in gaming. I’m not saying that to be mean, it’s just fact. The current balance team is THE worst that i have ever seen in all my years of playing online games. They really don’t have a clue. They alter things at a glacial pace and change things that more often than not make things worse than they previously were. Please anet, for the sake of the game, fire these fools and hire someone with a clue! We’re all sick of thier dartboard approach to balancing at this game.

And they need to get over wanting all skills to be the same in Pve/wvw/spvp/ IT DOESN’T WORK! Get over it Anet, it doesnt work. You need to start splitting skills between all game modes. You have tried your way, and failed miserably. Time to do what every other game does and split skills between game modes. Get of your high horse and frelling do it already for the sake of balance! Things that are OP in some game modes are terrible in other game modes and vice versa. You have to have a split between game modes for ALL skills and traits on every class!

Better get prepared to go back to 4 warriors and 1 mes dungeon runs after this patch. and ele going back to being mediocre in spvp to the point where people curse you out if you dare to join a game as an ele. 1 step forward, 5 steps backwards. Just the usual from our brilliant balance team. I just find it hilarious that Necro of all classes is getting its survivability boosted. Really anet? Necro doesn’t need its survivabilty boosted, i have no problem surviving on mine. it just has terrible mobility. I’d rather have mobility than be even more tanky than it already is.

Sometimes i have to wonder if everyone on the balance team has an extra set of chromosomes or something. It just baffles me the way they work, especially when it comes to “balancing” ele. They listen to all the whine threads of people who have never played the class rather than the people who actually do play it and know how it works. They’ve still not addressed the main problems that ele has had for the past 2 years that we’ve all told them about ad nauseum.

Here, i’ll give you guys an idea of how the balance team for ele works. It would be similar to me going to a mechanic and being like “hey my carburetor blew out, need a new one.” And they’re like “No problem I’ll fix your car right up!” Then I come back later and they’re like “Hey I painted your car green just like you wanted, it should work perfectly now!” And then I wait months before the next balance patch hoping they hired someone with atleast half the intelligence and reading comprehension of a trained sign language monkey.

Traps that have a persisting area effect. Drop one and an enemy steps on it, it has an effect that will linger in the area if the enemy is stupid enough to stand in it. Boon stripping traps that do this as well as ones that make any allies standing in the radius completely immune to conditions for the duration of the trap if they stay in the area.

I bet if they put an item in the gemstore that you could consume that would completely negate conditions, and another that completely negates physical damage but cant be used at the same time, everyone would get the one that negates conditions. Physical damage is so easy to avoid and compared to condition spam. Anet would make fortune on that one and would probably eventually remove the one that negates physical damage because no one would ever buy that one.

So wait you’re saying that almost every tpvp team/match up has at least 3 players whose main damage type are conditions?

no, because those are about team play and you can use your teammates to help you survive all the insane condi spam. so it’s not really that apparent how OP conditions are the more people that are added to a fight. smaller fights though, 1 vs 1 and such (and don’t give me that argument that the game isn’t designed around 1 on 1 fights. there are some of us who ONLY play just for the one on 1 fights and you have no right to tell us that we arent allowed to play the game that way). In 1 on 1 fights, conditions are supremely overpowered. Don’t believe me? Go to one of the 1 vs 1 dueling servers where they have a minimum bet of 50g per fight and tell me how many power based builds you see there. Go there with a power base build and try to fight them and tell me how much gold you win. I can tell you how much gold you can make in a few hours dueling the few who are stupid enough to go there with power based builds thinking they can win. 600g in 1 day is not bad for just a few fights that last a few seconds since condi CAN, despite all the misinformation spread by condi abusers, bust down people very fast.

Oh please, that is such a load of bull and you know it. I’ve played the typical PU spec on my mes and it’s beyond faceroll. I’ve never, ever lost once in a 1 on 1 fight to any power based build, they simply don’t stand a chance. Even eles fully specced to cleanse everything under the sun stand zero chance of ever killing me. they do zero damage and i eventually wear them down with non stop condition spam. A coma patient could be successful with with the way conditions work now. It takes ZERO skill to play it. I was so bored with it i went back to shatter spec, because atleast that takes someone with a pulse to play as. An you’ve made a huge understatement saying condition builds are good for roaming. they are THE choice for roaming because power based specs just cant compete. power has to sacrifice defense to do any significant damage, condi doesn’t. That is not balanced.

I thought of a possible solution to this problem that wouldnt kitten off either side. Right now we have 2 groups of people in this game. The condition spammers who think conditions are fine as is and dont want their easy mode taken away, and those of us who are sick of it and want a change. Rather than just flat out nerfing conditions, why not change the way that cleanses work? Right now how they just prioritize what is on you last allowing all the mindless 1 button spam of cover conditions and passive procs and crap thats going on now to happen. The system is terrible how it is now. In one of the other threads someone said something that got me thinking. The thread about what fields your blasts prioritize. It would be nice to have something in options where you could select which fields you want prioritized so your fire fields aren’t overwritten by all the mindless guardian light field spamming. Something similar could work for conditions. Just put something in the options tab that allows us to customize how our cleanses work. Let US decide which conditions we want prioritized rather than RNG. A simple checklist with numbers with all the conditions in game is all that would be needed. 1 being highest priority that we would want removed first before anything else 2 being the next one, and so on and so forth.

This simple change would allow actual counterplay to all the condition spam. Condition users would actually have to think when to use their conditions to get you to blow your cure so the conditions they want will stick on you, rather than the current spam everything at once and abuse the fact that conditions can be reapplied faster than cleanses will be off of cooldown that we currently have. This would add alot more depth and actual thinking to combat and less auto-win passive builds that we see now.

Also another thing i noticed when looking at some NPCs. Npcs that get stability say they are unaffected by all control effects when they have stability. this seems to include chill, immobilize, cripple as well. Why doesn’t our version work that way? Stability and stunbreakers should negate cripple, chill, and immobilize as well.

good idea. I’d love wvw rank finishers. Sort of like the spvp rank finishers. I just can’t stand spvp because i find it incredibly boring compared to wvw so i doubt i’ll ever get a decent finisher from there. I spend the majority of my time in wvw and wouldnt mind getting a finisher for my rank there.

From my experience, its not the DOT conditions that are OP in any way, in fact, I believe DOT conditions dont stand a chance vs direct damage.

The real OP conditions are the total (and even partial) incapacitation conditions. The ability to literally spam root/stun types of conditions on a player so that the guy has absolutely NO CHANCE of defending him/herself is just wrong.

Passed MMO’s that have implemented total incapacitations (which I am not a big fan of and dont believe should even be in game) at LEAST give the player a few seconds of immunity from them before another can be spammed on the player until dead.

No game should have a stun/stun/stun/dead possible sequence without giving the target a viable chance for survival, its a sleazy way to play.

Totally agree with you on that. The chill, immobilize, cripple, stun, knockdown, etc. either need to have their durations greatly reduced and the skills that apply them need to be on much longer cooldown, or there needs to be diminishing returns on using it repeatedly against the same target, or a period of immunity before they can be affected by it again. And yeah there’s -duration food and runes for that, but it’s so ridiculous with all the condition spamming at this point that you HAVE to take that just to survive which severely limits build variety and pigeonholes us all into using the same stuff just to survive the ridiculous spamming of control effects.

Also, Torment was a horrible stupid idea to ever have in this game. Why in a game that’s all about active combat and moving around would you create something that punishes players for moving? Very, very stupid idea. Get rid of torment and get rid of dire gear stat.

I’m all for buffing GS ability in combat, as long as they do something about it being so good at running away. The last thing we need is for it to become the best in combat weapon that also allows you to run halfway across the map anytime you please when you start getting outplayed and reset fights repeatedly till you win.

Changing the way skills work to benefit pve will just screw over pvp. And as people have previously stated, they are connected. Anet doesn’t want to separate them. It’s better to change the way pve works. Pve needs a complete overhaul. Things like defiant on mobs make cc pretty much useless in pve whereas it’s insanely overpowered already in pvp. Cant change that so it’s more effective in pve, cuz it will jsut be even more overpowered than it already is in pvp. Same can be said of conditions. Useless in pve, but stupidly OP in pvp. The way mobs and bosses act in pve is just very poorly designed in general. To me, pve always seemed kind of rushed and not well thought out considering how alot of the profession skills work.

^Go to one of those dueling servers in spvp as a diamond skin ele where the minimum bet is 50g. Because of the fact that conditions are so insanely overpowered, you will NEVER face anything except condition bunkers in those servers. It’s all p/d cheese thieves, pu mesmers, condi spam engis, necros, and rarely condi guardian. Diamond skin is a good way to make a few 100g in a day till the brainless scrubs stop spamming 1 long enough to figure out why they cant hurt you, then its time to leave cuz a regular power build stands no chance against that cheese.

I went with celestial. Its pretty versatile. If i need to make adjustments to builds, i just change accesories, which are alot easier to get than armor. Its simply more convenient not having to make several different sets of armor for different things. Weapons aren’t that much trouble to make either compared to armor and i can switch that too if need be.

A nice improvement to the worm would be being able to cast it 1200 away and instantly exchanging places with it. the worm explodes in a gas cloud poisoning and crippling whatever walks through it. that way maybe, you’d have a chance of escaping a zerg for once.

We’re specifically not supposed to have escapes, I’m not sure why people hear this and say “ya… but what if we just had a really quick movement ability that we could use to get away from a fight”. Flesh Wurm is only allowed to be as strong as it is now because it is weak without being pre-set.

See, this is what i never got. WHY is necro not allowed any escapes? considering how much the game has changed since the beginning for all classes, i think its about time necro got 1. I’m not asking for stupidly broken, run across the map in 5 seconds, warrior type speed. Just 1 escape for those “oh crap” moments when you see a large group of people running towards you, just to give you somewhat of a chance of surviving. And you can’t argue that necros survival is the reason it doesn’t have escapes, because once again….warrior. Warrior outsurvives necro by a longshot. Its not even close comparing the 2 in terms of survival. Even if it was at the cost of some kill power, i’d like 1 decent escape method.
