I’ve been looking forward to HoT for a very long time, especially due to Guild Halls. My 7-person guild was looking forward to having a place to call home, so we were a bit excited. However, the extreme costs of upgrades was just insane. The initial expedition cost was reasonable enough, but just the first upgrade would either force us to grind dry top, or wipe out all our funds. These costs may be fair for massive guilds with plenty of donors, but many small guilds are rendered helpless by these costs. It may be one thing to offer the big guilds a better guild hall, but we can’t even afford the first upgrade. Some could argue that we should either merge with a big guild or try to grow, but we, and many others people prefer small groups, where everyone knows each other. It seems a bit unfair to punish players for a preferred play style. Of course balancing it would be difficult to implement, but the current system is unusable. Even if we gave up all our personal costs, such as new armor and equipment, we still could never afford the upgrades. At this rate, most people are going to swarm nothing but the big guilds, purely so they can have a decent guild hall….
You are not being punished. Its not a need, its a want. You made the decision to have a 7 man “guild”. The alternative of course to a larger guild for you is to simply take longer to achieve the same result.
Favor or Aetherium in mass quantities being used to substitute mat requirements might not be bad. As long as the cost is high enough so that its not abused.
I can’t get anywhere with HoT. Every event, champion, veteran, etc, I end up dying. Changed everything about my warrior to toughness, vitality, and power (all survivability) , and I’m still dying. Unless I’m running around with a zerg, I can’t get anywhere, can’t level masteries, can’t get hero points, can’t progress in story mode. Magumma is handing me my butt and I’m not having fun. Saw someone suggest doing the Tyria masteries instead of Magumma. Thoughts?
Sounds like you should look into getting a guild. To play Guild Wars 2 with.
Or, you could do the upgrades at a slower rate and take advantage of cheaper mat prices next year. Suggesting waiting or being patient is unpopular I realize, but none of this is that difficult to begin with.
Wait. I have to buy the expansion to benefit from it? ERMEGERDREDERKERLERSE.
Rather than the guild treasurer asking for all materials for all potential upgrades, we should be able to some how queue the upgrade we are working toward so that guildies know what is needed for the next goal instead of giving items to the treasurer that we may never use and that they can’t get back.
Having a built in interface in the guild window that displays guild goals and quantities of donations supplied/need is just good interface design (that ArenaNet has predictably failed to provide). This would make the system much more intuitive and useful. I’m sure the excuse we’d get as to why this isn’t going to be added would be something like, “it’s too difficult to make changes to the guild window now and using an NPC is more flexible for future developments;” but, it’s unfortunate that the design wasn’t implemented more holistically and thoughtfully.
Good points in general there Booey.
This would be an amazing addition. More communication would help streamline things for guilds.
Problem in every MMO ever. Helps if you play with an organized group as they can make loot considerations for you.
I think we should be able to do just about anything in our halls for a price. Whether its a buff or just 8 25k aetherium upgrades it should be possible.
And what stops you from then inviting 500 people at max level?
This sounds like a lack of real members or actual leadership ability.
Brace yourselves.
I understand that this goes against what Anet stated they intended which is being able to buy your way through content, but surely every currency has an appropriate exchange rate. The first 10 favor and the last 10 favor can cost different amounts if needed which would allow each “guild” to decide what their small size and exclusivity means to them in dollar amounts. I am absolutely not for watering down any guild content, but this is how real life works. If you can’t do something yourself or its inefficient to do so, you pay others to do it. Set tiers of pricing for favor and allow small guilds to determine what their size is worth to them.
don’t nerf any bosses or mobs.. people seriously need to get good.. whats the point of playing if everything is easy as kitten
15 Charrs agree with this message.

People have posted about parties taking down both so not sure I understand this thread.
This should not be made easier.
Not all of us have $2000 computer. Not all of us have the reflexes of a 13 year old. . I have been dying every 30 seconds for 45 minutes and am sick of your poor design.
Try to use 3 skills, that fail to fire a third of a time while dodging red circles and and instant death creature behind you that kills you in 3 seconds.
Did any one of you think that this would be fun?
Think about the players! This isnt a fractal or a raid. This is part of the Living Story.
You are supposed to be better than this….
^15 Charrs are inspired.
Plot hole detected.
This is an amazing idea.
This is a really good idea. Fair to both small and large guilds.
The new bls are anti fights imo. Really my only major gripe with HOT.
My guild does most of this with 1-2 parties and given that you can select a preference it makes it even more attainable if that option is used.
On a side note, I have 2 questions. Can a Guild own both places? Second, if at a later date, can you switch places and still retain your current guild upgrades?
1) No, you can only won one at a time
2) Yes, to capture a different one go purchase the expedition for that hall and complete it. You will retain your old hall until you succeed the new expedition. All of your upgrades will then apply to your new hall and you will loose access to your old hall.
My character is head of two guilds that each captured Hollow and Precipice in the first few hours of launch. I am curious if that would be a first.
15 Charrs are trying really hard right now.
Casual game is casual.
The irony is strong with this one.

Thanks for the update to the Hero Point Requirement Anet! For all of you that reviewed the game horribly, you better go change that now!
I don’t believe in binary ratings.
I have since completes auric basin and am at 98% on verdant. Really wish this would be fixed
15 Charrs thank you.
I like gates. They keep me safe.
I feel so safe.
Oh and on a side note… TOTALLY not referring to the area you haven’t found yet… have you found One Eye’d Willie?
In the ship beneath the central area yes.
Hopefully we can get an update form the devs on this. I believe there was a Reddit post a bit ago.
All that can be said is…
You validate me.
All that work and you chose the wrong one.
Grats to your guild.
So you claim. #shinyfuls
Found this about 2 days ago, but didn’t get a chance to upload it. Apparently this is what we unlock with the level 40 upgrade from the Guild Initiative NPC. I hope you all enjoy the shinyfuls.
Curious how this made it into live.
I see so many forums posts about people QQ’ing and whining that they can’t solo? What exactly can’t they solo? I’ve had zero problems solo’ing anything other than a few champ skill points. And even then u dont have to party up and there’s usually other people around helping. No one should expect to solo legendary monsters in group events. Which are optional encounters.
Maybe people just need to get better. Its more challenging but its not impossible or even that difficult. If anything if it was to easy and people just blew through the game people would whine about it being to easy instead and boring.
Anet said, “be prepared to change specs, use weapons and utilities you don’t normally use” etc. Sorry you can’t just zerg mindlessly through it with a greatsword 24/7 anymore and might actually have to use a range weapon or toughness for once.
Thank you for posting this.
Minus the borderlands, def a good expansion.
I’ve been a solo player for years, I’ve made and paid for my own guild to reach level 5 via buying commendations with in game gold and now with the release of HOT I just found out I need to find some players to grind favor so I can try obtain my own guild hall? I don’t enjoy trying to coordinate playing the game with friends to achieve something. I don’t want to join another guild. Why the F do I need a minimal of 3 people to gain favor? I was planning on trying to solo clear out my own hall but now I find out I need Favor just to freaken attempt to obtain a guild? WTF? What happened to big and small guilds can obtain their own Hall? Can you please sort this Anet because a fair percentage of your player base prefer to solo regularly.
Solo player complaining about GUILD Halls. Good troll.
This is a pretty epic bug.
There is no grind in Guild Wars 2. Colin said so. :/
Fact. Casual game is casual.
You can’t deposit materials for upgrades your guild doesn’t meet the prerequisites to start. If you want to be able to deposit tons of mats you will want to open up multiple buildings etc.
I’m upset because I have to do more to have more. Totally unreasonable.
What does MMO mean?
I have to say I find it kittened you need a Mastery to gain entrace to one of them, after paying 100g. This was never mentioned on the stream nor blogs. I had to search 2 hours for the entrance after paying 100g and then being denied entrance cuz “Oh right, forgot to mention u need to farm another hour mindlessly before you can gain access. Oh and the rest of your guild aswel. But thanks for the 100g and your 3 hours of wasted time!”
Outrageous.
Agree with you on this. There was a little too much guessing on the process for how large this was.
