From what I have read of the recent dev post on the matter, they suggest they are aware of the particular issue in EU and have posted solution. Did you try any of them?

Why do people keep saying there’s a “fix” listed in the EU Lag thread? There’s nothing even close to a fix, they just tell you to run PingPlotter & send them the results. That’s it. I’ve already done this twice, & it didn’t “fix” any of the lag problems I’ve been seeing.

But ya, since it’s a 27-page long thread, I’ll go ahead and link the “fix” that people keep referencing in these Lag threads: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/support/Latency-Lag-for-EU-Players-merged/page/25#post4810981

That is assuming the problem is on our end.

The fact that so many people on so many servers are having the same problem reinforces the fact that it is a server side problem!

Never put in a ticket with Anet support, huh? The problem is always on your end. UPDATE YOUR DRIVERS!

As you can see from the guide, you probably just need to update your drivers. I wish this was sarcasm, but the guide actually mentions updating drivers several times…

Tarnished Coast apparently was able to drop a superior trebuchet in a location that is Seige locked. They then proceeded to build it(in the seige locked zone) and fire upon the tower+bring the wall down. We were unable to kill the treb with our counter, due to the citadel invulnerability.

You can see the Seige locked buff upon the player manning the treb i clicked on, as well as the invulnerability.

Anet, may you please fix this exploit? Thank you for reading and possibly fixing this !!

This game runs on DirectX 9, an API that’s more than 10 years old & was designed in part to run the old Xbox 360, but has reasonably modern graphics, & a lot of CPU bound calculations. It will never use your PC to its potential. This game has an amazing way of finding bottlenecks no matter what you do. Maybe if they follow the same route as WoW, or even lots of low-end games such as DDO, they will add support for newer versions of DirectX, as DirectX 12 would probably alleviate many of the problems people are seeing with this game. If they don’t update the game to run in DirectX 12, however, I’m afraid that in a year or 2, we’ll all look back at Guild Wars 2 and see it as a dinosaur already.

Chronic skill lag in WvW

They aren’t ignoring the complaints. There have been several threads about it and some have gotten a red post (some not). Lag and latency can be incredibly difficult to track down, since the problem could be at customer ISPs, ANet’s ISP, in the backbone, etc. Get as many people as you can to file one support ticket each with as much diagnostic detail as you can — that’s what will help ANet troubleshoot. Further, that will give them ammunition to convince ISPs to fix issues on their end.

This has been said many times, in many threads, but when 70+ people from all over the world are all in TeamSpeak together, and have no lag in PvE or even Lions Arch, then enter WvW and suddenly get massive, unplayable lag, then 1 by 1 start leaving WvW only to find that their lag disappears, then the problems aren’t happening on the player’s end. If it were routing or packet loss issues, then the lag should be at least somewhat persistent throughout the game, & it would be an amazing coincidence to hear people from different continents all getting the same lag, at the same time, ont he same map, then all seeing it disappear when they leave the map.

I used Anet’s own diagnostic test

The results shown by “Gw2.exe -diag” include traces to the EU and NA datacenters as well as the patch server. The one you posted was for the EU servers and the pathping command listed underneath was for the patch server. The other one would have been the NA server, with an IP similar to the one I already showed you.

Thank you. That makes it sound as though this problem must be on Anet’s end, then, since the only other pathping looked fine:

You gotta do /ip in game WHEN you are lagging. it is possible that some WvW instance is getting hosted out in EU for some local servermaint out of austin. That is perfectly feasible in this case.

I ran the TraceRoute shown above immediately after logging out of GW2 due to lag. I used Anet’s own diagnostic test, as requested by them on their Lag/Latency guide.

But the only way to find out is to issue /ip in game when you are lagging and then run a tracert to it as soon as you can to get the Hop details and the routing info.

Ah… I will try this next time. Do I send that info to Anet, instead of the Diagnostic Test that they ask for? You need to go rewrite Anet’s Lag/Latency Guide, as this is different from anything they suggest!

Can we get a response about the Lag

None of you understand how the Internet works.

To be honest, I think the vast majority of us paid Anet $60 each with the assumption that they knew how the internet worked, since they were selling us an online game that can’t even be played without it.

But since you’re berating people in ALL CAPS, I’ll assume that you must know a lot more than anyone else here. So please explain what we are supposed to do if we find ATTENS.net or Level3 in our TraceRoute, & see problems starting there. We can’t really go around a backbone ISP, can we? I mean, I don’t plan on laying my own, personal cable line from here to Austin, TX just to make a $60 game playable. So if Level3 shows up in the TraceRoute, do I just call up my local ISP & say “Kitten those guys at Level3, send my gaming data through Internap from now on or I’m outta here”? Has that ever worked?

Anyway, after running a TraceRoute & sending the info to Anet (which I did before ever posting in this thread, & SHOCK WvW is still lagging), what can we, as players, do with that information? Is there some simple way that an average player with no particular technical knowledge can force their connection with Anet’s servers to follow a very specific path? Or is it the responsibility of every MMO player to simply acquire, on their own, all the technical knowledge required to run the entire internet? I’m really confused as to where a player’s responsibilities begin & end, once they’ve purchased this game. Again, like most of the people here, I assumed when I bought the game that Anet had a handle on this whole “internet” thing, & would at least bare some responsibility for sorting out problems like WvW lagging to the point of unplayability for nearly every NA player simultaneously. But yeah, if there’s something we, as players, can do to fix this problem, please feel free to explain it.

Also, please explain what

a Edge Connection Contract to open Tickets with

is, because no one else has ever mentioned it (not even Anet), & a Google search for “Edge Connection Contract” turns up nothing, as well.

The pathping you’re showing is to the EU servers. If you’ve select a EU server as your home server, you’re routed to the EU datacenter. I’m assuming you and your friends are on an EU server?

The pathping you’ve shown has packet loss between hop 4 and 5, 5 and 6 and 6 and 7. Hop 7, which you’ve pointed out, is only dropping pings, which doesn’t affect its ability to forward your packets.

Myself and all of the players polled are on Blackgate, an NA server. Or, at least, I thought it was an NA server…?

EDIT: But yeah, the hop from 5 to 6 is a hop from Redwood, California to France. I’d love to know why. I singled out the address 89.149.164.42 simply because it has a longstanding list of complaints as the source of many problems for NA players.

Chedder, have you run the TraceRoute as suggested in Anet’s “Lag/Latency” guide?

It seems that players from all over the world, including most NA players, are being routed through the same IP address in France, & seeing the majority of their problems start there. The IP address is 89.149.164.42 , so if you run Anet’s Diagnostic Test, check to see if you are being sent through that IP, especially if you are located in an area (or continent) where there should be no reason that you would be sent through a French IP to get to your servers.

PS – this same IP address was popping up in player complaints on these forums the last time that Skill Lag was unbearable, roughly 1 year ago.

After experiencing completely unplayable lag in WvW tonight, & hearing 70 other players all in Teamspeak & on the same map & server as me complaining about the exact same problem, I went through the checklist on the “Lag/Latency” section of this page: https://help.guildwars2.com/entries/27698133-Connectivity

I noticed that I was getting major packet loss, starting with an IP address in France: 89.149.164.42

Looking up this address in a Google search, the first 6 PAGES of results were all complaints on the Guild Wars 2 support forums, with people from all over the world seeing their connectivity problems start at that address. This goes back to early 2014.

So I asked my guildies and servermates who were experiencing severe lag tonight to run the same Diagnostic test (TraceRoute) described on the official Guild Wars 2 guide linked above, and let me know if they were also being routed through that IP address or not.

So far, 12 people have responded that they were being routed through the 89.149.164.42 address, which is located in France, and that their packet loss all seemed to start there. 11 of these players are based in different parts of the US and Canada, 1 player is based in the UK.

Can someone from Anet please explain why we are all being routed through this same foreign IP address when there is a server located in the US, and why it appears to be causing the same type of problems for so many of us, when we live in different areas and use different ISP’s? Thank you.

Can we get a response about the Lag

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: Otokomae.9356

Otokomae.9356

I play on NA primetime in T1, and the only time I see lag is when there’s 150 of us in SM Lord’s room. Other than that, not so much. So it might actually be the player, or the routing of the player’s ISP.

You are in the minority.

The EXTREME minority.

I was on for reset tonight, & we actually had over 50 people simultaneously rubber-banding back & forth between areas just as we entered WvW! We all ported into the Green Borderland, & spawned in the Orchard part of the Bloodlust area, then we all suddenly appeared back at spawn, then we all suddenly appeared in near the middle of the map, then after over a minute of this most of us finally ended up in our Spawn area (a few people got stuck out in the Bloodlust area).

After this, it was full-on lag for EVERYONE on our map. We had as many as 70 people in Teamspeak together, all on the same map, & NOT ONE PERSON was able to use all 5 weapon skills tonight. Even our 1 skills were lagging out by 3 seconds or more, and Heal skills were completely unusable. WvW was unplayable for the entire Blackgate server tonight. The majority of us simply logged out early and went looking for some other (working!) game to play. WvW has had terrible lag issues in the past, but I believe this is the worst it has ever been, and it is a recent phenomena. This will be a deal-breaker for many, many players who are considering whether to buy the expansion, or simply to spend that money on another game, and this sort of complete breakdown of a key part of the game makes it impossible for most WvW players to recommend buying Guild Wars 2 to anyone at the moment, even if it goes on sale again, and there are certainly far fewer people telling their friends to save up for expansion as a result of this absolutely game-breaking lag.

I’ve gone through the entire “How to Address Lag” checklist, by the way. My Ping tonight never rose above 71 (average 63), and for what it’s worth my FPS was relatively stable, never dropping below 42.

Soooo there will be a vendor which gives a legendary in exchange for gift of battle? :P

World completion is only needed for legendary weapons (and these must now be considered PvE only). So since they’re removing WvW from counting, perhaps they should remove Badges of Honor from being needed for the gift as well. May as well be consistent.

The “Oh, but they still need 500 Badges of Honor” argument doesn’t really mean anything here. I mean, you already get 500+ Badges for every 2,000 Achievement Points, and anyone who does full Map Completion is probably going to have close to 5 times that number by the time their done, anyway.

At level 80, Sword/Pistol is still viable, but you will find that other weapon sets can be min/maxed to a higher degree. If you’ve really mastered the Sword/Pistol playstyle and are having fun with it, though, it’s not going to hurt you in PvE or WvW. sPvP is a little less forgiving to those who step outside of the top metas, however, as the game is designed with a higher level of parity in mind.

Thief is NOT a Rogue

in Thief

Posted by: Otokomae.9356

Otokomae.9356

assassin is probably technically more accurate of a name, but by definition, the thief is a still a rouge and always has been – a loner, vagabond, scoundrel, cheater, etc. Some people aren’t happy until a class conforms to the standards that was set in place by say, D&D, the canonized quintessential rogue, what I believe the OP is arguing it is not, though I say it doesn’t matter. Its the same reason why some ranger players think that rangers should be all about the bow, bout’ the bow, no melee. GW2, is not about canon though, it aims to break the mold, at leas until its players abandon them.

Ah… well, if the Thief could just see traps and disable them before his allies run over them, than basically he would be a D&D Rogue. Honestly, a D&D~ish Ranger would be incredibly fun in GW2; D&D Rangers weren’t just all about the bow, for people who got into the meta-game w/ D&D, Rangers were all about dual-wielding, and having significantly faster attack speed than everyone else. Meaningful differences in basic attack speed is something that could fun to add in GW2, really, to give a little more separation between classes, and balance out DPS and Defense differences between classes without buffing or nerfing base attacks.

Thief is NOT a Rogue

in Thief

Posted by: Otokomae.9356

Otokomae.9356

It’s hard to tell what’s going on here; is this an argument for rifle, or against the Rogue archetype? If your main argument is that “Thief is not a Rogue”, then you probably weren’t playing the class at launch, when the Thief class most certainly WAS set up as a Rogue. There was no cooldown on Stealth, so you had 100% Crit Chance on basically every other attack, there was no “Ferocity” stat, so you could stack up well over 250% Crit Damage, & Thieves were absolutely blowing people the kitten up left & right, because even with Valkyrie gear (giving the Thief around 18k+ health) Thieves were landing 18k+ backstabs against every Light Armor class enemy they saw! The Thief was an Assassin; there was a very good reason why, in every part of the game, more than 50% of Thieves were holding a Dagger in at least 1 hand.

Of course, after much, MUCH whining from people using every class in the game (including many Thieves who just got bored with their “auto-win” build), the Backstab Thief has been through a long series of almost monthly nerfs that never seemed to end. So you could say that the Thief is no longer a Rogue, but there is a good reason that many people still view the class this way; they still remember when the Thief was a Rogue!

If you’re just making the argument that you like Rifles, and so Thief should get a Rifle, that’s fine, I personally don’t care one way or the other.

A few basic thief questions

in Thief

Otokomae.9356

Hi all,

I am new to the profession and have a few questions -

First Question –
I had been using the combination of Black Powder and Blinding Powder, but I am realizing now that this seems like a waste for multiple reasons:

  1. - Black Powder already blinds, so no reason to waste the Blinding Powder
  2. - the combo of Smoke + Blast gives area stealth, but Blinding Powder already gives stealth.

Am I correct in assuming that it is ‘bad’ to use these two skills together?

Second question -

Are the effects of Cloaked in Shadow trait wasted on Blinding Powder, since BP already gives both stealth AND blind? Or is there an additional benefit?

Thanks for the help. In terms of open world PvE, is it worth it to trait for stealths/blinds, or is pistol #5 generally enough blind?

Thanks!

I’m not sure what your build is, but you’re right, using Black Powder followed immediately by Blinding Powder is a very inefficient combination.

Black Powder is most powerful when used by a Dagger/Pistol Thief, as is often seen in sPvP and WvW, where you hit Black Powder, then do multiple Heartseeker leaps through the smoke to stack up stealth. If you are using Pistol/Pistol or something like that, the way to use Black Powder for stealth is generally to hit Black Powder, then IMMEDIATELY switch to Short Bow and start blasting as fast as you can with Cluster Bomb (#2 skill). This only works if there are no enemies in range of your Cluster Bomb, however.

Blinding Powder is most often used as an escape skill, or as a last chance at Backstab when a Thief has run out of initiative. It is also often used by Theives who do not have an off-hand dagger as a mid-fight stealth skill, although for Dagger/Pistol builds the above mentioned “Black Powder + Heartseeker” combo also works, once you get used to trying to avoid hitting enemies with your Heartseeker.

Cloaked in Shadow is wasted on Blinding Powder, yes. As far as I know, the only thing Cloaked in Shadow does is add to the duration of your Blind; the condition still vanishes on the 1st missed attack. Cloaked in Shadow is most commonly used by Dagger/Dagger Thieves, who can gain stealth every 3 seconds through Cloak & Dagger, thereby applying Blind to their enemies as well. It is also often used by Steal builds, who mistakenly believe that, when combined with Hidden Thief trait, it will apply Blind to their target. This makes sense, of course, but Anet has decided to apply this skill differently, so the Blind portion of this trait actually goes off at the position where the Thief STARTS his Steal skill, not on the target. You can use this trait to Blind your target, of course, but only if you are standing within the trait’s radius at the START of your Steal. The reason for this is that the Hidden Thief trait goes off the moment you hit the Steal button, NOT when you actually Steal from your target, so you are stealthed back at the location where you were standing before you landed Steal on your enemy. This is why many players think the skill is broken, because Hidden Thief & Mug generally cancel each other out (since you were already in Stealth BEFORE landing your Mug, Mug will usually break stealth when landed.)

Anyway, the short answer is that you’re right, using Black Powder + Blinding Powder to apply stealth is generally inefficient, as there are much better ways to use these skills.

Just go read the population imbalance CDI, there are at least 40 pages there explaining why this is a bad idea. Your math just happens to be worse than most of the similar suggestions in the CDI, since you seem to think that people will transfer Tier 1 to 2, then from 2 to 3, then from 3 to 4… that’s 5400 Gems already! If Anet announces that they’re going to punish high-population servers with lower map caps, it’s much more likely that people will simply quit the game.

How to motivate our commander? Suggestion?

Last, i want to ask you question: do Arena net monitor TS/VoIP for rule violation and policy violation?

They do not.

Suggestion: i am thinking about sending server commander blueprint to motivate them.

Your server doesn’t do this already? The majority of my server regularly sends Superior Siege blueprints to Commanders.

I agree with you and also about TS/VoiIP: The reason why i do not TS/VoIP is because I am scare to use because other player might call me noob and other name for not be like them, so Thank You! for encourage and motivate

If you’re uncomfortable at first, there’s honestly very little you need to say. A good Commander will let everyone know throughout the raid what skills he needs called out, and people on TeamSpeak won’t know which in-game character you are unless you tell them, and they certainly won’t know your build or anything like that.

At worst, you might hear something like “Anyone who died falling off that cliff, please go uninstall this game now” or something like that, but it’s not serious, and it’s extremely rare that you ever hear anyone being called out by name in TeamSpeak unless it’s obvious that they are intentionally trolling.

Also, some Commanders like to gather the whole map around them, and some like to run with a smaller group of guildies. The ones who want to run with a specific group usually won’t be in a public TeamSpeak channel, however. You’re much more likely to get helpful advice in a WvW TeamSpeak than any sort of direct criticism, but if a group makes you feel uncomfortable, simply switch TS channels and find a Commander you like. And when you DO find a Commander you enjoy running with, ask how you can join his guild (^_^)!

Settings to fix Lag?

Dropping everything to Low doesn’t fix it, that only affects your FPS, not skill lag. People have tried every available setting in the game in an attempt to fix skill lag. The best you can do is check your ping, make sure your internet connection is solid, that you have sufficient bandwidth/speed, and maybe try a Network Interface Card like a KillerNIC or something. I’ve actually done all of these things, however, and I can say that it does seem to reduce the number of times that I get lag in comparison to other people on my server (who are in Teamspeak, at least), it does not make lag go away 100%. The prevalent theory is that the remaining lag, which is experienced by every player in the game at one point of another, is on Anet’s end somewhere.

Say for instance, Garrison is being hit hard. You can port grab supply and port back when it becomes uncontested to repair/build siege… and there is nothing that the opposition can do to stop it.

They could kill you… that’s what my server does in this exact situation on a regular basis. Especially if you do something as ridiculous as “porting in” to a Garrison full of enemies; this leaves your entire force standing on a single spot, and depending on load-in times, you may be already dead before you even know what’s happening!

4 precursors: 2 from drops, 2 from Mystic forge

I also purchased about 30 or so precursors back in November 2012, right after the initial Karka Event. I bought them all through the Place Order system, when the prices started dropping after the event (all were under 200 gold, most were under 100), then relisted them all at 4-5 times what I’d paid. It took about 4 months to sell all of them.

Any fun/unique ways to make gold?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Otokomae.9356

Otokomae.9356

Have you tried making gold off the Karka Queen event? I don’t mean actually doing the event, btw… what I mean is, every time that event finishes, a ton of karka shells suddenly get dropped onto the market, and the “spread”, the difference between the Place Order price and the Buy It Now price, opens up. So, every time the Karka Queen event is up, simply open up the Trading Post wherever you happen to be by hitting the “o” button, and put in an Order for 250 Karka Shells. Then relist them at a higher price. Lately I’ve been able to buy them right after each Karka Queen event for 4.80-4.85 silver each, then sell them for 6.10-6.15 silver each. It usually takes less than an hour to get all the gold back from selling the shells, and you gain about 1 gold profit for every stack you sell. You can, of course, do this with more than 1 stack if you’d like, especially during the prime time in your region (NA prime for NA, etc.)

There are actually a thousand TP trick like this, but when I say “Move a market” or “Flip items on the Trading Post” people generally say it’s too hard unless I give them a specific example of something they can try today, so there you go. Karka Shells.

Has anyone noticed the silverwastes/vinewrath event severely impacting the economy right now? Rewards for it seem to be greater than any other event or dungeon in pve at the moment. I cant think of any of factor that would be effecting prices this much, please balance this event!

The Silverwastes and its notorious “chest farm” have affected a lot of prices on the Trading Post, with Globs of Ectoplasm probably being the most noticeable for many players.

Just before The Silverwastes map was introduced, Ectos were selling for over 46 silver each, and the Demand for Ectos was more than 7 times the Supply! Looking at GW2TP.com today, it seems that the Sell price for Ectos is down to around 30 silver a drop of nearly 35%, and for the first time in recent memory, the Supply of Ectos actually EXCEEDS the Demand! So the market on Ectos has been completely turned upside-down by The Sivlerwastes’ chest farm, or at least the timing of this massive change in the market certainly lines up with its release well.

There are other items that clearly seem to have been affected by The Silverwastes, such as Silk Scraps (which is being vehemently argued about in another thread right now), which has been turned upside-down in a similar way, but unlike Ectos, the market on Silk Scraps has already begun to recover.

You get more rares from the labyrinth keys and rare bags upon breach and VW successes than you do from the chest farm.

Silk dropped significantly because of Wintersday.

It really only takes a few seconds to look at GW2TP or GW2Spidey before posting something like this on the forums. Anyway, I’ll make it as easy as I can for you; click here: https://www.gw2tp.com/item/19748-silk-scrap

You’ll see that the massive swing in silk scrap supply happened in November, during the same week that Echoes of the Past (and the Silverwastes map) was released. Wintersday started on Decemeber 16 last year, I believe, and it certainly exaggerated the changes in supply and price of silk scraps, but the market has already recovered from Wintersday entirely (current prices are almost exactly what they were the day before Wintersday released), but we are still nowhere near the prices on Silk that we saw before the Silverwastes map’s release.

Silk shot up in September because of the collection. I crafted ascended leather even though I hadn’t planned on using medium armor classes at the time. I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one who did something similar to this. The price was starting to fall before SW was released. Also note how supply had an upward curve well before SW?

That massive drop you saw was because of the bugged chests which brought on a large influx of materials, silk included. This was fixed on the 10th and you’ll see that prices rose back up again while remaining relatively stable until Wintersday.

Wow, this is gonna go on for a while, it seems. Click the link above once again please, then click one: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/info/updates/Game-Update-Notes-November-4-2014/first#post4552725

You can see that Echoes of the Past released on November 4. Within just one week, Silk Scrap prices saw a massive drop of nearly 27%; it was the fastest drop in Silk prices in nearly a year. Two days after the Silverwastes map entered the game, the the Supply of Silk outstripped the Demand for nearly the first time since Ascended armor entered the game. There was a spike in price with the September patch, but after the initial rush the price clearly seemed to have settled at around 2.75-2.85 silver, with no reason to think that it would have fallen much lower than that (until the Silverwastes map was released). In fact, the price of Silk Scraps was CLIMBING on the day that the Silverwastes patch was released, reaching nearly 3 silver before the patch hit.

After the bugged chests were fixed, the price recovered slightly for just a few days, then continued to drop. Between the patch to fix bugged chests on November 10 and the release of the Wintersday on December 16, Silk Scrap prices dropped by more than 25%. That’s in only a month!

As I said earlier, the price on this one item has recovered from Wintersday already. On Decemeber 15, 1 day before the Wintersday patch, Silk Scraps were 2.36 silver each; 2 hours ago, Silk Scraps were selling for 2.36 silver each. This is still a massive drop from the 2.90 silver prices that we saw 1 day before the Silverwastes map was released.

I know it’s really hard for some people to be wrong on the internet or whatever, and especially on a forum for a game they play often, etc, etc, but everything here is clearly pointing to the Silverwastes having an effect on the price of many items, including Silk Scraps.

Item's removed from game stil on TP.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

There are various item’s that have been removed from the game that can still be found on the trading post. (ex. training manuals)

Is it at all possible to remove these items completely? They are being sold for more than just copper or silver, but for gold. People, such as myself, I admit it, who are not aware that these items are now useless, are spending their hard earned gold on them and getting snookered by the sellers.

Please look into this!

So… you bought a useless item, from an anonymous source, despite the fact that you had no idea what the item really was or that it was now useless, and without taking 30 seconds to look it up on GW2Wiki, or to simply ask any random person you see in Guild Chat or even Map Chat what this very expensive mystery item is… and now you want Anet to fix it for you.

Please stay away from Ebay. And Craigslist. In fact, I’m going to save you a lot of trouble here and just tell you that the internet in general is not for you, I’m afraid. I would advise you to avoid it entirely.

This is how innocent Mogwai end up in the wrong hands, only spawn an army Gremlins that destroy the whole town…

I mean, unless you’ve got large ques on multiple maps, which is extremely rare, you can always just hop into EotM to grab the free supply there anyway, if your group is really getting “supply starved”. Having it at the Citadel with no chance to upgrade isn’t a really big advantage, since it doesn’t help with upgrades, and it requires you to always port back to spawn (far away from enemy keeps and towers) to get it, and it’s only available on one map. It’ really not some sort of game-changing mechanic.

How can we changed WvW to prevent the blob

in WvW

Posted by: Otokomae.9356

Otokomae.9356

Simple. Make more smaller maps with the max number of players allowed reduced. 20, 30, 40, or w/e number seems right. I think it would be fairly fun to have 2 keeps a few camps, and 20v20 in that map.

I would absolutely love this. More different maps for different play styles. And a map like that would be really fun for small-medium groups.

Would we keep the same total population cap? For instance, if each server gets 80 people per map (4 × 80 = 320), would we now have to have 16 smaller maps with 20 people each? This might lower the size of zergs, but it seems like it would exaggerate the population imbalances we currently have, as any server with a less active WvW population could end up with completely empty maps, or 5v20 situations on 10 or more maps at once. Imagine trying to reclaim 16 full-capped maps each day when playing a server with a very strong non-NA timezone! Or are you simply talking about adding several more, smaller maps to the 4 maps we currently have? This seems like it would also make population imbalances much harder to overcome.

3. Actual, physical SOUND. Make it so that, the bigger the group the louder you are and the more sound travels. I’ve always found it a little disconcerting that large scale zergs make no sound until you are right on top of them!

This would especially funny when you consider how many WvW players play with the game sound OFF every time they enter WvW! I actually kinda like the idea of adding a “Stampede”-type of sound, so that you can hear zergs coming before you even see them.

If you’ve really got 3700 Gold, use it to move one of the crafting mat markets. 1. I spent a LOOONG time grinding everything i need for my legendary. I wanted the feat to mean something. The problem with the WvW map completion system is that is flawed. If you are on one of the lower servers sure, you’ll probably get it easier, but as i said anyone who says that thay have flipped a Garrison on the t1 group more than 2-3 times a week (exceptions when one of the sides is a newcomer that somehow ended up with the wrong groups) is delusional.

How can we changed WvW to prevent the blob

in WvW

Posted by: Otokomae.9356

Otokomae.9356

There are many ways to get rid of the blob.

1.) Increased damage debuff the more people are stacked together.
2.) The NPC guards in EotM actually use AoE. The ones in WvW do not.
3.) When you take a large keep, have multiple points they need to capture instead of just blob rushing to the lord.
4.) My personal suggestion has always been new siege called the “Asura lightning cannon”. Lightning shoots out and leaps from target to target, causing little damage at first hit, but increases damage for each target it strikes after.

Your last ideal is not too bad (your other ones would not work) kind of a sprides dot where if one person has it and comes close to other ppl then that ppl gives it to the others you could go well over the 5 target cap and likely keep a full zerg debuffed. How about the new “slow” debuff images how powerful it would be if a full zerg has 25% – 75% longer cast times.

You don’t think at least #3 is feasible? I don’t mind #2 either – it does make people move. And the one polar bear keep lord does mass AoE – forces the blob to spread out at that point.

Yeah, your #3 point here would actually make the zerg a requirement for even attempting to capture a Keep, since small ops groups of 3-10 would have essentially no chance of ever capturing even an unguarded Keep that was designed like this. Just 1 or 2 players could troll the cap points for hours unless you drop 15+ people on each cap point. I think this would likely make the zergs BIGGER, not force them to scatter.
