Revitalize GW2 with Consoles

I was thinking of an ingame console (command line) for some reason. Dumb me.

I hope it stays on PC. Coming from FF14, it was terrible. NPCs had to be moved on some things had to be changed to keep the performance up. Or in short: Consoles sucked so bad they literally had to place NPCs in a different location to keep acceptable framerates on the PS3. Also, the chat is usually dead, because nobody want to plug in a keyboard (“else they would’ve bought a PC/play at the PC”). In FF14 it worked somewhat, mostly because that game is slow and awkward when it comes to combat. You wait 2.5 seconds for a black mage skill, yes, meanwhile you can turn your tank, pardon, your player character around and stuff, but switching trough different layers of skillbars just because of limited buttons was kinda hard. I tried it myself. GW2 is much better when it comes to combat. I need my mouse to move the camera fast and to aim my grenades. Analog stick madness – no thanks.

Pretty moot as you can always plug both mouse and keyboards into a console these days. I played ff14 on the first release and had no issues with the keyboard and chatting. But you are right, the combat there is very different and that game is more combat friendly when it comes to chatting.

How in blue blazes do people play sprawled on a couch with a precariously balanced keyboard and a mouse on an uneven surface without killing their backs or necks? Or both? I’m boggled.

I need a solid surface, an ergonomic chair, padded foam or gel under my wrists, and a monitor close enough to see through reading glasses (darn eye doctor telling me “congrats, you grew up, now you need different glasses for different distances, one pair won’t cut it unless it’s graduated”) — I seriously cannot imagine effective PC game play without good back and arm support.

I sit my keyboard on my lap on top of a cushion, I have another cushion on my left side so my left elbow can rest on it so my arm is level with my keyboard. As for my mouse hand, my sofa is level/flat enough so I have no issues there. As for neck/back, no difference than sitting at a desk imo. It’ all comes down to length of time playing that is what is important I think, as well as getting up and stretching, walking about etc.

Fact is some people may spend their work day at a desk and so may want a break from a desk on their off/leisure time.

No need to sit at a desk to play this, I play from a sofa. All you need is a spare sofa and a coffee table. I place my keyboard on my knee and my mouse works perfectly fine next to me on the sofa.

As for taking this to the consoles. It would be nice but probably not worth it in the long run. Maybe when virtual reality gaming is a thing Anet could look at taking it there…..

I wonder what makes it worth it for the games that have been successful doing this? What is taken in consideration for a large decision like porting a pc game to console, especially for the mmo’s that didn’t even come close to GW2 brand, and financial success in the first few years.

It’s easy to say “if studios like Daybreak and Zenimax can put in the financial and technical resources to do it, and gain, why not Anet?” but I’m sure there’s more to it.

Well in the cases of Elder Scrolls and Final Fantasy both franchises came from console history. Well sure Elder Scrolls started on PC but they have def had exp in the console market. Final Fantasy, there is no argument there that Squaresoft are well and truly experienced at making games for consoles, they are true masters.

As far as Anet and the GW franchise goes I just don’t kid myself on that front. Let’s face it even GW2 was new ground for them. Being it’s their first true MMO and even then when you look at the map/world it is still sort of instanced, it is not truly “open”.

They are still behind the ball with having the game up to scratch at this point. Ever since launch they have been scrambling and making revisions to get it to where they would like it, always catching up. This is evident with the recent pulling of resources from legendaries to current game/live as well as the next expansion.

My reply simply comes down to the fact it seems their resources are stretched to the limit as it is right now. Sure there is def money to be made from the console market and new players could indeed be obtained. Just right now with how the game is and the state in which their resources are stretched, I just can’t see it being viable atm. Don’t get me wrong I am not against it as I am a console player myself and do have the Elder Scrolls games and FF14. I am just being a realist here.

Sound Issue

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Paulytnz.7619

Paulytnz.7619

Hi there, usually I like to have the ambient sounds in this game cranked up to max for atmosphere but recently turned them down as I am in Royal Pass a lot and the portal noise there is very annoying. Also when you are there crafting for some length of time some strange grinding type sound thing pops up, a real weird sound not sure what. However that is not the issue which I will now get to.

So as I said I recently turned down the environment (which I believe used to be called ambient?) by a lot, not to zero but not too far off. Anyway I was just playing the game but logged to quickly do something and also read the forums a bit. While reading the forums I noticed that the sound of my game slowly over time kept getting louder and louder. I have the music turned off and since I was not logged in and doing no interacting the only sound that could be heard is the environment, so it was this that kept getting louder. Not by too much but enough to almost make my lowering attempt in the first place redundant and loud enough to annoy me to mute it altogether.

I logged in game and parked myself next to a portal to see if the same effect happens while in game. Sure enough it does. The only fix I have found is to do basically anything with the UI, such as open a menu and select a tab, or open a bag for example and it will reset the sound to my chosen level. Note, this rising in sounds does NOT move the slider in the settings tab at all, it just audibly is effected. This is kind of annoying.

I hope this gets looked into and some kind of explanation is given, thanks.

Edit: I just noticed it only takes a few seconds for the sound to rise while in game and it seems to go to what it should be if you have not changed the slider at all.

Can I ask you OP why exactly is it a problem if there is indeed maybe only a few people on a map?

I mean even if this is the case it does not mean the game is dead or dying. It just means there are no people on this particular map at the moment.

Is it effecting you or your play style in any negative way, and if so how exactly? Most of the game is solo-able, I have done world complete 11 times myself now so I know this is true. If it’s just that you like to chat with people or even interact with them there are solutions to this already. You can go to the popular maps or hit the Daily Event map as there will always be plenty of people there. Since the daily event map changes every day it should be enough to keep the old maps and content varied enough for you.

I just really don’t see an urgent need to have every map close to full all the time or content added to them all the time to try and force this. We have to face it, there is a certain number of people who play this game and logged on at any given time. So of course with new maps and content coming out when it does it may seem like there are less in the older areas as people like new content and new places to explore. It’s not necessary a bad thing at all in my opinion. There is going to be “X” amount of people playing no matter what they do.

Thankfully Anet has gotten over the old fear of not adding new maps because of the old ones dying since we now have the megaservers to deal with that. I hope this continues to be the trend and indeed more maps and new content is added.

Legendary Weapons: Gold or Collections

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Paulytnz.7619

Paulytnz.7619

Once you get the collections out of the way, I don’t see anything stopping you from crafting multiple. I accidentally used the recipes on the wrong character (my main rather than my weaponsmith), so I had to buy another set for karma. I got the initial crafting item with it, so I should be able to craft a second precursor with it. On the other hand, once you have the skin, crafting another isn’t horribly useful, unless you are going for twice-told-legend.

I am pretty sure you can only do the crafted version once. If you want to do a second crafting of the same (pre-HoT) legendary, you need to get the precursor the old fashioned RNG way. Certainly I have seen a number of posts from people that started it up again, sank resources, and then cried out in woe when they realized they’d wasted their effort.

I’m pretty sure I read somewhere or saw a vid where anet said yes just one but they were working on a simpler method for creating seconds for people who want dual weps etc.

However that has probably been scrapped along with the new Legendries. It would be nice to have some word from Anet on this as they did not address it when the Legendary announcement was made.

Removal of Health Bars

Paulytnz.7619

I don’t think there has ever been an option to see HP bars above players heads on screen if that is what you mean. However I have always thought it would be very helpful to have them. At the time when I first thought about it I thought they didn’t add them because that would sort of go against their whole anti-trinity/healing other players view at the time.

However now with raids and other more challenging content coming out and the more dedicated healing classes/builds/roles being added why not have the feature?

You may have been confused with the option where we can choose to display other players names on screen above their heads turned on perm. I have that option set and npcs. I guess another thought from anet’s side may have been if people have everyone’s names displayed as well as HP bars it may just add more clutter to the screen.

Either way, I think we DO need the option available.

Yeah hopefully something like this would not take too much work/manpower. Who knows, it might even be simpliar than that, they may already have the tools to do it.

Map Completion Complaints

Paulytnz.7619

No joke! Can’t say how many times I reran a mission just to scrape the edges of the map, just for the 0.01% .
Took me a long time to get the cartographer title, almost gave up on it.
I prefer the GW2 style of map completion, yes, yes I do.

I have no idea how people did it without Cartography Made Easy — even with that tool, small bits of the map were hellishly tempermental

I did it without any type of add on or mod for all of the expansions. I would simply go into a map, wipe everything out first to save time. Then scrape the outside edges and then look for any inner “islands” or mountains/rivers whatever and scraped all around those to make sure every inch was covered. I think I was lucky tho as I have OCD or something similar so I was extra thorough naturally and pretty much covered everything the first time through. I think only maybe 1 or 2 maps I had to ever redo to finally get the full 100%.

As noted by the OP, coming to GW2 what a huge relief and so much easier it is! Which is why I get a chuckle when I see people complain how hard/tedious world complete is here lol.

The current preview of weapons and armour is great don’t get me wrong. But I think there is at least one more addition that could be made just to make it all that much better.

That being, below the current 3 checkboxes there is a new option. It would be called “watch animation” or something. It would only apply to weapons and the effect would be that you use the weapon as in an attack animation.

What would be the benefit of this? Well the idea came to me mainly because someone linked a bow (the new BLTC ones) in map chat and I thought to myself, “it looks ok but I wonder how the arrows look when they fire?”.

Obviously for projectile weapons I think this would be the main benefit but I can see melee weapons as well having a purpose. There are many skins in the game and sometimes I think people overlook some simply because of the skin itself. With a feature such as this, people may just be inclined to give some of the older less seen skins another look and may even think “hey that looks cool in action, never thought it was that good”.

I could see this also being a benefit to anet as new weapons that they bring to the Gemstore may just advertise their full glory more with such a feature and thus they may get more sales.

One last thing, I decided to start using greatsword on my Mesmer a while back and went hunting for the right skin for him. I don’t recall the name of the one that I chose but I think it’s an Asuran theme. I chose it because it was Pink/Purple, as you do for Mesmer. :P Back on track, I only chose it because of the skin however upon using it I noticed it fires pink/purple beams which just suits the Mesmer even more! I’m not sure it’s that colour BECAUSE he is a Mesmer or as part of the weapon. But if the latter, again this just goes to show how great such an addition could be.

Please support if you think this could be a great idea! After all it took AGES for the preview system to come in the first place and MANY suggestion/posts asking for it from MANY people. So please post a reply to let anet know if you think it’s a good idea or not.

Did you unpack it yet? The pack you buy from Moto is actually a bundle containing the skin and one of those no-level-no-stat backpack straps you get all over the place. The skin only unlocks once you’ve unpacked the bundle.

Yeah thanks for that, I thought I would take the risk and did this yesterday. Still it’s strange that the slot is not in your wardrobe until you unlock it by opening the bundle.

Some people like to collect all skins and so they search through the wardrobe to note which ones they still need to hunt. With cases like this in the game people could very well miss out on collecting them all without even knowing it.

HoT changes - damage

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Paulytnz.7619

I think a lot of the problem was that many zerk pvers went to pvp and faced players who were not glass cannons and couldn’t kill them quick enough or at all. Thus they cry to anet who go and remove all the tanky amulets.

Result? Now instead of seeing smaller fights spread between all 3 caps you have 1 team steam roll the other at the beginning and then it’s all over.

Removing the tanky amulets, while increasing cond damage to the level it is now while also having classes that can spam aoe conds at max range just makes it a giant mess.

Tanking on point via strong builds/amulets and survivability has simply been replaced with tanking on spot with aoe spam/conds, traps, wells with the odd Ele healer for back up.

They said fightswere too boring with the old system because people took too long to die or just simply didn’t. Now it’s over too fast and then the game goes out the window for the most part. At least with the more tanky amulets some of us with bad pings had a fairer chance, even just that split second that it could keep you alive made a pretty big difference, well in my experience anyway. Now it’s either have a good ping to be up to par or play cheese of the month class like 80% of everyone else until it’s all fixed.

So as such I have a ton of items that need selling and no longer need the mats so salvaging further does nothing for me.

There is also no point salvaging rares under lvl 76 as they give no ectos so yes selling is your best bet.

Wrong on both counts. It’s rares under level 66. As for materials, they’re actually BETTER to sell than individual items, as a stack of X size counts as one item, not X items. As a result, salvaging is generally the superior option anyways.

I knew it was ending in a 6. Either way I was making rares under that lvl to open all the “discovery” recipes and most were worth between 20-80 silver. I am not going to salvage that for a couple of iron, leather or cloth when it is obviously not worth as much.

All this aside telling other players to simply not use the system but to instead salvage everything is just plain silly. Why not just tell anet to remove the TP all together!?

If you’re crafting up with hoarded mats, you can eke out even more crafting by salvaging what you make.

I was salvaging everything under 5 silver and I still had a ton to sell. A lot of what I was making was rares well and truly above the 20 silver mark each. I came out a good 200 gold better off afterwards and have every recipe unlocked now. That’s how I craft, I craft to unlock all the recipes even if I am maxed in the craft. So as such I have a ton of items that need selling and no longer need the mats so salvaging further does nothing for me.

There is also no point salvaging rares under lvl 76 as they give no ectos so yes selling is your best bet.

You’re selling too many too fast. I get it once in a blue moon. Sell more often (since you don’t have to be at the TP to sell) or deal with it. If you really need to hear from Anet create a ticket.

It is not the OP’s fault, this is a problem with the system in general. I am like you and do not get this too often either but there is 1 situation when this goes out the window. That is mass crafting:

I save up all my mats over periods of months and then decide to binge craft. In fact I did this just last night and got 2 more crafts to 400. As you can imagine I crafted hundreds of items. So of course this issue popped up for me as well. It is stupidly annoying. However I found a way to deal with it. When that message pops up press ok, click on sell again and just count 10 seconds. You can now spam sell again as per normal for a good min or 2.

Being that you can do that, it seems like the system in place is just redundant and does very little to effect any bots. It just annoys the legit players of course.

My mesmer for the first time in HoT map trying to get HP to get her elite:

“I AM MIGHTY!!!”

2 seconds later….

Either way if you are meaning the cancellation of leg weapons or something similar my reply would be:

I would not class that as a lie. More like a plan that was changed. I could give another simple example. Say I say to someone one day “I plan to take my white car to work tomorrow” Right so that is my plan and I do intend to go through with it. Now let’s say I turn up to work and my friend sees me drive in in my black car. Now he may think to himself “wow what a liar”. Yet, was it really a lie? It could be my white car broke down, was stolen or maybe I had to take the kids to school on the way to work and the white car is simply not big enough. Newsflash, the plan changed for whatever reason.

Plans change, things happen – Plans that were INTENDED to go through but that are cancelled for whatever reason can then simply not be called a lie. Well that’s my logic anyway. :P

Depends did you ask your friend for money in exchange for driving the white car? Don’t forget that aspect of it. It isn’t that the legendary was said, it was that they were part of a package that was paid for

Well yes I do agree on this point as I have secretly been hoping they would throw us a bone over this. But I still stick with my view that it was not a lie as such. Just a changed plan. Changed plans of course does not mean they can’t give us something back for some changes. Maybe a partial refund or some free gems or something?

Having said that, I live in New Zealand and as such here we have a law that states a customer is entitled to what they are promised/advertised. If not they are entitled to a FULL refund. What anet did here would not fly down here if it was a local company I can tell you. Sure you could say “ask for a refund” however the problem here is, the only way that can happen is if they wipe my current account and I start from scratch, not exactly appealing now is that for some people? It’s a tricky, icky situation this one is.

Say I say to someone one day “I plan to take my white car to work tomorrow”. Right so that is my plan and I do intend to go through with it.

Apatia, poor girl. She thought I would protect her, because I was a hero. That is not even the biggest lie, when my character is leaving his final mission with Apatia he says:

<Character name>: Is she alive? I need to get the orb to Trahearne at Fort Trinity right away, but I can’t abandon Apatia.

Sayeh al’ Rajihd: You have no choice. The krait overwhelmed her and took her. Among my people, we would say her steps have faltered and move on.

Sayeh al’ Rajihd: I will deliver the orb for you. I would enjoy visiting Trahearne again. I owe him, and largos always keep our oaths.

Sayeh al’ Rajihd: You should go, too. The krait will be back in force. The longer you stay, the more likely you’ll end up lost, dead, or on a torture rack. That won’t help your friend.

<Character name>: I’ll go. Trahearne needs that orb, and I need to be at Fort Trinity. But I will come back for Apatia. I swear it.

First he says he can’t abandon Apatia, and I’m thinking “yea lets do this” and a few words from an npc, and I’m like you know what never mind. I’ll be back one day Apatia….

*Comes back and proceeds to kill her (as undead) and claims it’s for the best. lol

I thought my character noble, but he’s just a street rat. XD

Lastly, can you even still play this storyline? I haven’t seen it in forever.

Yeah this story line always bugged me too. But I guess they had to have someone die off now and then to make it seem like a real threat (tybolt and other order people anyone?).

Apart from that, WOW just WOW soooo many lies, so many more than I thought and some pretty BIG ones too!

Please tell me how I can exchange my furniture coins with the vendor for clouds if I have not done the furniture achievements? He doesn’t want to take the coins I’ve gotten from the daily….

You have to exchange the furniture coins with a guild hall NPC, Fion.

^^^^^^

Check out the decorations vendor in your hall, the clouds are at the very bottom. The vender is right there at the middle WP.

TBh I don’t know how you have got clouds any other way to build your stairway. O.O

For me it’s every one of my chars saying to Canach:

“I just like having your company Canach”.

Yeah right!

So, what is the greatest lie you have heard your char or some other npc say? Post em here, can’t wait to hear em!

I thought that was sarcasm.

Although maybe that was just how I interpreted it because given the opportunity most of my characters are quite sarcastic.

It was, which is why it is the greatest lie ever told.

Keep em coming guys, some good ones here already!

100% if Skritt is new playable race. If that is not the case it will be questionable tbh. But again if Skritt is there – shut up and take my $150 already (my conversion rate).

scrap Southsun it only gives 6 transmutation charges

Yeah I had a feeling there was no key chance there. Will still do it as it is super short to do (5-10 mins) and the shells are well worth it.

I think dominator skin is awesome, finally a staff that looks like it could be a melee weapon too. goodbye reclaimed skin

Looks like it could be a typical impractical fantasy melee weapon…

Reminded me of Big Bang Theory Tbh

Centurion’s Claw ^^

My brain just had an orgasm, thankyou.

Edit: (Is there a staff version?)

No, no staff. It’s also a Guild Wars 2 Heritage skin so only available to those with a certain number of Hall of Monument points. I use it on my dagger/dagger Charr Ele.

“Yet”

Give it time and we will have it in staff form lol. Actually this thread may just give them that idea.

TBH it could be they are doing these recolours because there are posts now and then on the forums asking to allow us to dye our weapons. I think it would probably be impossible to add that function to the game now (or at least far too much work). So if anything at least they are sort of doing this?

However I am personally disgusted when they advertise NEW skins that are just recolours. Just strait up call them recolours for goodness sake lol.

Once I have done HOT story on all of my chars I have a new plan for key farming which will go like this:

1 – Start a new char.
2 – Do the level 10 story.
3 – Complete maps to level 80, only my fave maps not ALL as I usually do. At lvl 80 will do Southsun, all 3 Orr maps, Drytop and Silverwastes as these maps are pretty fast to clear thanks to no hearts so that’s more opportunities for keys. Might also do the Hot Maps, not sure yet.

4 – Complete Personal Story.
5 – Complete Hot Story.
6 – Delete char and start over from scratch.

This should take a week to do, maybe a little over. I should think I would get 4 keys total just from the PS and HOT story. Am likely to pick up an extra few from map completes. I am not bothering to do LS2 as it takes far too long and is plain boring and not worth the extra key there.

Doing this method will not only give me keys but Wep skins from HOT, Exotic Vipers sets as well as other mats needed for scribe etc. The unidentified dyes that you get often from PS bags are also nice.

I made a post about this a few days ago which was then merged into the SAB thread, expect the same to happen to this one.

The good news is you DON’T have to do tribulation mode to be able to scribe the new furniture. Doing so and earning that achievement only unlocks being able to buy more furniture coins for 25 baubbles.

The furniture is actually scribed from the clouds which can be earned by ANYONE in your guild doing the furniture achieves. So in theory EVERY single one of your members could do the furniture shops except the Trib one and you will have a ton of clouds for scribing.

This also means anyone else COULD do the full achievement and unlock the ability to be able to buy extra furniture coins with baubbles for your scribe to then use. But this would just be a bonus.
