Who is the most suited to defend the city ?
A common cop not even able to stop canach by herself and who keep begging us for help so we can expect her to run to us with her tail between her legs as soon as a small danger will show up ?
Or a charr, not only clever and skilled in diplomaty that he could prevent any conflict before they even occur but also wealthy enough to buy a whole army and supply it in case of a threat ?

Defend the city? A greedy, Machiavellian industrialist? Sure, sounds like a good idea.

I would like to see the reactor thing, to be honest. It is something I as a GW2 player can relate to. I have always asked myself what happened there, and I’m at the reactor every single day.

Fall of Abbadon on the other hand is of course interesting to me – any new content would be – but I never played enough GW1 to get excited about this.

Ellen Kiel has my full support – we have adventured together, and Kiel has always done her duty, been dedicated to her job; she is straight and straight-forward – much like myself; but she also has a moral compass that will make her bend the rules if she must do so to protect the innocent. Never has she acted selfishly. She may come across as gruff, but I believe she will get things done for the people, not stopping at anything as long as she can follow her moral compass.

Summarized:

  • The new fractal won’t be Molten Facility or Aetherblade Retreat, but Fall of Abbadon (Gnashblade) or Thaumanova Reactor (Kiel).
  • The reduced price in waypoints (Kiel) and BL keys (Gnashblade) stay for 4 weeks only
  • We will be supporting both candidates for achievements and rewards, probably similar to supporting both settlers and consortium earlier. So there might not actually be a player vote at all.

Bazaar is NOT a jumping puzzle

in Bazaar of the Four Winds

Posted by: Pixelpumpkin.4608

Pixelpumpkin.4608

I would argue that simply travelling from the boat up to the airship up top does not qualify as a jumping puzzle. It’s simply travel. With new skills. It’s not hard, it’s not confusing. It’s a single path (indicated by glowy bits on the ground to guide you). It’s actually far less complicated than 1/2 the vistas in the game.

Those glowy bits are only there during the dynamic event where you pick up goods downstairs and take them to the kite ship upstairs.

Most of the jumping puzzles in GW have a clear single path. Some don’t even require many individual jumps. Yet they are classified as jumping puzzles.

So, some are shorter than Cliffs (Under New Management), some are easier (Spelunker’s Delve), some are more straightforward (Chaos Crystal Cavern) and some are… even less jumpy (Behem Gauntlet).

What differenciates the Cliffs map from them is that there is no chest waiting at the end.

However, I would classify collecting the crystals in the Bazaar as a sort of JP. While not a single continuous puzzle, this is more akin to many tiny JPs spread throughout the zone. A different design from the typical GW2 puzzles, but still a jumping puzzle nonetheless.

Some of the crystals are quite easy to attain. Others require some thought, planning, and perserverence. All in all though, I would say even the hardest crystal was easier to attain that the most challenging of our JPs.

Finding and getting to the sky crystals is essentially the same as collecting orbs in Scavenger’s Chasm.

I recently purchased the three novels. I took great care to avoid all spoilers because I wanted to read them in the right* order and dutifully read Ghosts of Ascalon first. I noticed, of course, that Edge of Destiny was named after Destiny’s Edge, but only found out later that it is set 5 years before the events in Ghosts of Ascalon.

(* chronoligical…)

Should I have read Edge of Destiny first? Or is there any merit to this? Is there any reason Ghosts of Ascalon was released first?

And more importantly right now, how does Sea of Sorrows fit in? Should I read Edge of Destiny now or Sea of Sorrows?

“Account bound” is a weird concept for roleplayers. My character has close relationships to other players’ characters (such as my boyfriend’s main…) but no relationship at all to any of my alts. How could she? She can never even exist in the same room as them.

Yet my characters share all their account-bound possessions.

By the way, my boyfriend and I have a mutual guild/guild bank where we share a good deal of our mats, gold etc. – I think that is currently as close as you can get in GW2.

Disappointed at AP rewards.

Even if you don’t like the skins, 15g for 5000 points is small? 30g for 10000 points is small? By the time you’ve reached 10000 points you’ll be handed a total of 70g for literally “doing nothing”.

Yes. 15g for 5k points is small. 30g for 10k points is small.

That’s pitiful levels of chump change for achievements that take thousands of hours to get.

I can go run CoF p1 for a couple hours and get more gold. I have almost 1,900 hours on my account and just under 4k achievements. Another 15g would be nice, sure…but it’s not exactly anything that has me excited. I’ll make more than that just clearing out my collectables. Heck, I can take one item from my bank and sell it for well over double that.

If you are one of the players who run CoF for money, then obviously you have enough of it for the AP rewards to never make a difference.

I hit 5k AP a few months ago and 15 gold is a really, really nice bonus of “pocket money” for me.

As I feel my main source of income should be the game itself, I don’t think more than 15G would have been appropriate for this bonus.

Pixelpumpkin.4608

My breakdown:

My main character, who I play all the Living Story chapters with,

  • will fully support Ellen Kiel. They have adventured together, and Ellen Kiel has always done her duty, been dedicated to her job; she is straight and straight-forward – much like my character; but she also has a moral compass that will make her bend the rules if she must do so to protect the innocent (Last Stand). Never has she acted selfishly, at least not that we witnessed. She may come across as gruff, but I believe she will get things done for the people, not stopping at anything as long as she can follow her moral compass.
  • has no reasons to distrust Evon Gnashblade, but has no personal relationship with him. She will not support somebody she doesn’t know.

But which historical event deserves the funding for further research?

  • The Molten Alliance made a bigger dent in Tyria than the Sky Pirates – a historical event of bigger proportions deserves bigger research funding.
  • But the Sky Pirates story isn’t over yet – Scarlet is a loose end! Who is behind this plot? We need more immediate research on the because we haven’t found the villain yet and Mai Trinn isn’t cooperating!

On a meta-gaming level,

c’mon guys, Evon Gnashblade is obviously the baddie here, and Ellen Kiel is set up as the hero. We all know this, and it will make some of us vote for the hero (because it “feels right”), and some of us vote for the villain (because it “feels more interesting”).

I wouldn’t be surprised, by the way, if Evon was voted but turned out to be up to no good in a future chapter and we (the players) have to relieve him of duty somehow.

Either way, we cannot know which outcome will bring the more interesting living story chapter(s) with it – both options could be fine!

As a player,

  • I want the Molten Facility back as a fractal a lot more than I want the Aetherblade Retreat.
  • I still feel like I want to support Ellen, because I like her better.
  • If we have to choose between the two dungeons forever I may have to vote for Gnashblade, but if it is just a matter of time before the other one is added, I’ll vote for Kiel.
  • I am not interested in black lion keys, and while a reduced cost of waypointing would come in handy, it’s not important enough to me; so neither of these will influence/sway my vote.

I am under the impression that we will collect tokens, which we can then use to support one candidate or the other. Maybe it is technically possible to collect tokens for both of them. Maybe I’ll go fifty-fifty!

The only people this really sucks for, I think, are those who deliberately saved up all their gems so they could afford a kite later, and find out they would have been better off buying a black lion key and getting the kite for free.

But… well. How common is that?

Not sure where you are going with that. It’s for buying gems not buying items. As far as I know gems have to be bought at a minimum of 800 at a time. A black lion key cost 125 gems.

Upon further consideration, your point makes more sense than mine. I withdraw.

What could possibly go wrong, putting a magnate in charge of politics? Will he make unbiased decisions, in the interest of the inhabitants of this wonderful city? Will he fight corruption? Or will he make every decision in the interest of lining his own pockets and widening his own influence?

What could possibly go wrong?

That rule is so not applicable for proper nouns (which Kiel is.)
It’s an English language rule, however proper nouns are very often loan words.
In this case, Kiel is likely the German version of the nautical term “keel”. There is a German word Keil, however, which is the German word for wedge.

So, players who never win will end up racing each other until they do, and so on.
