My graphics are freaking out and so am I
in Account & Technical Support
Posted by: Pixelpumpkin.4608
A few days ago, my guildwars started to behave differently. This is the first time I’ve seen this effect.
- When I play, I see blocks of pixels (little squares) everywhere that don’t belong on the screen.
- They are all the same colour (sometimes cyan, sometimes cream, etc.)
- They appear/disappear rapidly, especially when I move my character (or the camera) around
- This results in constant flickering
- They seem to appear more (but not exclusively) when the game displays dark textures.
These blocks will not appear on screenshots (!) so I took photos with my phone, which I’ll attach below.
I am now panicking that my graphics card may be dying, or something equally horrible might happen.
Any ideas?

Very good post. I agree with it wholeheartedly.
I would like to highlight my favourite part:
In the end, while it is technically a PvP game, its about as competitive as a potato sack race at a company picnic. The competition is so random that winning or losing really doesn’t mean anything. What matters is how much fun you have playing.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
I have found (with the help of others) around 45 of them. At some point this month I will probably want to go back and see where the other ones were hiding from me
Thank you for putting in the time to make this!
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
Most of the Zenith skins are really nice ( GS/Staff/Bow/dagger, etc.) […] the new skins looks great and is unlimited.
Your opinion, and your opinion!
I don’t see myself using them on any of the characters I play right now. It’s just not the specific style of any of them.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
I think we’ve all seen in previous mini-games that collaboration happens regardless.
Preventing us from playing them with our friends is not preventing that. (Other technical means might prevent it, but ANet doesn’t seem to see it as a problem at all.)
And I can’t think of any other reason.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
Orpheal: Lovely ideas. Especially about the novel replay.
I had similar thoughts, but I thought of making parts of the books into fractals.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
I like what you did there.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
Same here, I’m not sure if I’m doing it wrong or what.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
So, you DC for some reason, and log back in, and you’re somewhere up the airship stripped of all aspect charges, left with no other option than to go down and start over.
:(
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
Keep in mind new players will have to work for this, everyone is getting them now because they’ve worked for the achievement points earlier.
Yes, but so far, in order to earn WvW badges, you had to do WvW. (Similarly, if you want fractals gear, you have to do fractals.)
you forgot that most of the fractal was made buyable with laurels and badges. The onlything unique to fractals left is ascended backpacks and some skins.
To my knowledge, that is incorrect. You can buy ascended jewellery with laurels, but those won’t give you agony resistance and so they’re useless in higher fractals.
Infusions that give +agony resistance can only be obtained by using fractal tokens.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
Including underwater ones, I was happy to discover!
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
Two of the Belcher’s Bluff achievements listed under “Activities” require you to have beaten all 6 NPCs.
Is there a problem with NPC beating? Smart usage of signature moves will help alot and regen food is totally unnecessary. Correct unlock order will also help – like beating Graster Beakerbane after Maddie with Woo etc.
This was in response to the poster above me that said that you don’t have to beat the NPCs in order to get achievements. (Yes, you do have to beat the NPCs in order to pick up their signature moves.)
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
You just had to click that small button on the right side of the window that pops up when you open the chest ~.~
“Decide later” or something like that.
In which case I get none of the rewards, and the chest remains there forever… I’ve got 5000 AP – are you suggesting that I keep up to 10 separate reward chests on my screen for the next few months? :P
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
If you don’t want to unlock something, you don’t need to open the chest.
Unfortunately, you do …
If you do not select a skin, you cannot get the rest of the chest items, and the chest does not go away. You then have this annoying and never ending chest bouncing animation going on in the corner of your display …
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/suggestions/Achievement-reward-items-postpone-decision
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
I have a problem with the current achievement reward items process.
Upon opening my chest, I am forced to make a decision about which skin I want.
Right now, I don’t want any of the skins. I may want them later on future characters of mine, but I don’t know yet which weapons they will use. So if I pick any of the weapon skins now, I run the risk of regretting the decision later.
I would much rather postpone the decision until such time that I actually want to use one or several Zenith skins.
I think I will have the same problem (but worse…) with the armour skins when I get my chest for 3000 AP in a few days. The risk of looking back and having taken the wrong decision is even higher, since apparently you have to choose between radiant and hellfire gear and cannot just pick up the other pair of gloves in the next reward segment (the next reward segments will have the shoulers instead).
TL;DR: I don’t know which weapon and armor skins I will want to use in the future, so I shouldn’t be forced to make an uninformed decision right now that I will regret later.
Could this be changed to a ticket system perhaps? Then I would simply place the weapon/armour ticket into my bank and use it to select a skin when I’m ready.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
Some armor such as P/T/V can’t be bought on the TP. I think it’s a fair relateable argument that we have to spend ALOT of time in PvE to even be able to WvW, to your argument about not wanting to step foot in WvW to get an achievement.
Funny enough, I thought pvt armor could be bought with WvW tokens.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
I don’t mean to be rude……..but it’s not nearly as luck based as you think, you’re just bad.
That being said, I suggest you guest over to tarnished coast and do it. Every time I have done it, those of us who already have the title and top 3 achievement have stopped just before the finished line and let those in 4th, 5th and 6th pass us. We’re just there for the fun of it + plus the chance at catcher skins at this point as rewards do not scale with placement.
If this mini-game works like the other mini-games before it, it doesn’t matter which server you’re on. You enter an instance that doesn’t “belong” to any server (similar to overflows and dungeons).
And please don’t assume that the OP “is just bad” – many of us have massive problems controling the jump skills due to sudden skill lag, as seen here:
Watch the video and judge yourself: lack of skill? Really?
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
For the achievement you only need play games against other players, not necessarily win them. So fix for this is not top priority I think.. Especially assuming that no one will play that game after achievement unlock considering 100g for permanent bluff match starter item.
Two of the Belcher’s Bluff achievements listed under “Activities” require you to have beaten all 6 NPCs.

~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
The dragons threaten Tyria, but the normal life of the people doesn’t simply stop. All kinds of things are going on at the same time, everywhere, ever.
I for one am glad to be able to experience a bunch of different stories; some heavily have to do with dragons (personal story, daily boss fights., and if rumours are to be believed, expansions.) and some don’t (living story).
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
You PvE guys get ONE achievement tucked away in OS JP
Sorry to be nitpicky here, but this is the third achievement down there.
Another three in the other three jumping puzzles.
Plus various waypoints and POIs that took some of us months to complete.
A lot of players have put in significant effort already getting map completion as well as the “normal” achievement at the end of all the “sanctum” jumping puzzles, and left there knowing that they were DONE. Not interested in WvW; never again to return.
Until…
So, I think that makes a little bit of a difference, too.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
We’ve definitely had examples of either so far:
- *Shadow of the Mad King (standalone)
- Lost Shores (standalone)
- Wintersday (standalone)
- Flame and Frost (standalone)
- Super Adventure Box (standalone)
- The Secret of Southsun (following the events of both Flame and Frost and Lost Shores)
- Dragon Bash (following the events of Last Stand at Southsun)
- Sky Pirates of Tyria (tying in with Dragon Bash)
- Bazaar of the Four Winds (following the events of Sky Pirates of Tyria)
So why Halloween, Wintersday and the SAB remained standalone modules, all other Releases, starting with Lost Shores in November, are actually chapters of the same story.
With the achievement chests, you can get the badges without ever stepping foot in WvW.
To me, that kind of defeats the purpose of those badges.
Disclaimer: I’m not a WvW player

Simply having the past achievement rewards on the same redeemables window as zenith weapons would suffice. Would love to have that flower on all of my sylvari characters…
I strongly +1 this.

So, wait, does that mean it is impossible to get both the radiant and the hellfire gloves?
What if I want both sets of gloves but none of the helmets?
:\
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
This is not a simple annoyance or a matter of trying it a few more times. There are thousands of players who are shut out of this months chapter almost entirely.
Is this being looked at?
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
As far as I understand, the following is permanent:
- Belcher’s Bluff items obtainable from bartenders throughout Tyria
- Belcher’s Bluff achievements listed under the “Activities” category
- Belcher’s Bluff champions to fight in the five home instances
The following is temporary:
- Trader in Labyrinthine Cliffs
- Poyaqui in Labyrinthine Cliffs
- The achievement (beat Poyaqui) listed under “Living Story”
So far, so good.
It does leave one question though: In the activities section, two of the achievements that (as far as I can tell) are supposed to be permanent ones require you to have won against Poyaqui:
You’ve Got the Moves: Obtain Signature Moves by defeating all six Masters of Om.
Flaunt It: Use all six Signature Moves against your opponents.
So (unless this is an oversight) I assume that if/when the Labyrinthine Cliffs will be removed, Poyaqui will move to another location in Tyria (probably Lion’s Arch) so you can still get his signature move for the permanent achievement.
This is speculation ^ dev confirmation outstanding.

Still looking for a response from ANet. The clock is ticking.
I wonder if we should all be opening support tickets? I wonder how players will feel at the end of the two weeks/month when they’ve been unable to participate?
I opened a support ticket as soon as the content was out and I saw that I couldn’t participate, but haven’t had any reply yet.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
As far as I know, the only Aetherblades that are left can be found in the jumping puzzle.
The achievements are all gone however, so you wouldn’t be able to complete them either way.

The current Living Story chapters (chapters!) already are a bit of both – they’re all connected, unless you ignore all NPC dialogue.

Easy solution that will keep the price intact. Those items allow you to play Belcher’s Bluff with people anywhere. Make a place, like Keg Brawl has, that players can go to to play the game for free. That way the items (infinite and single-use alike) truly become worthwhile as they are adding the value of playing anywhere instead of the value of playing in the first place.
Or better,
add this as a cheap activity in all of Tyria’s wonderful taverns. Allow players to challenge each other there for the typical price of a round of drinks.
Keep the infinite gold item for players who want to challenge each other outside of taverns.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
Australian here.
Interesting thing to note, lightning pull seems to be totally broken on my main server, but it then works more or less totally fine on overflow servers. Why would that be?
More players in the map = additional lag. There you go.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
Do the freq LS updates keep you playing?
Yes.
So the question is if they changed and were brought out every 3 months, would you quit?
I wouldn’t quit, but I would play significantly less. I am largely “done” with the regular content and achievements. I realise that you are never truly “done”, but exploration is my favourite part of GW2 and I’ve explored pretty much everything, except for a few dungeon paths. Living story updates deliver new content to be explored.
Would you stop spending real money in game?
I wouldn’t stop spending money, but with playing significantly less, I would have less opportunity and desire to spend money.
Would you be so un happy?
In a way, no, because I would just fill the gaps with other games and activities outside of GW2. So it wouldn’t be harmful to me, just harmful to GW2 itself.
But in a way, yes, because my boyfriend and I got GW2 as a mutual hobby (and hang-out) while we’re on different continents. A year into the game, we have made other friends, too, that I like to hang out with. So, less time spent in GW2 is not actually my goal. I want to play, and I want to do so without getting bored.
If you read the interviews about the LS the devs make it sound like without them the game would die. Is this true?
Suggestive question, and any answer would be pure speculation. Shame on you.
And another thought occurs, does their current schedule cause you to spend more real money in game, and play more?
Yes, an update every two weeks makes me play more than an update every 3 months, and with more time spent in game I have more opportunity and desire to spend money – but I’ve already answered that above
Just curious.. I truly think every 2 weeks is nuts and quality will suffer. Your thoughts?
I disagree. I think the quality is fine.
I do think that 2 weeks can make for a very hectic schedule when you don’t have time to play ALL the time, and I think I’d be happiest with monthly updates – enough new content to keep me coming back, but maybe also some spare time for fractals and such.
It was during Flame & Frost, which was a lot slower, that my boyfriend and I did all the mini-dungeons and jumping puzzles and started playing dungeons more; the recent schedule would not have allowed us to do so.
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
I completed Maguuman events for daily today in the zone, so it must count as Maguuma.

I’m a little annoyed that you cannot leave the choice for later. I’m not interested in the Zenith skins for any of the characters I currently play, and my elementalist hasn’t found out yet which weapons she prefers.
I would have liked to just leave this and pick out the weapon later, alas, I can’t.

I guess the Aetherblade weapons would have been very popular, same as the consortium whips.
As a general rule, we want what the NPCs have (armour, town clothes, hair styles, weapon skins).
The NPCs create fashion, fashion creates demand, demand creates supply, suppy means money for you and satisfaction for us.
And the great thing about fashion is that it constantly changes. I may want Kasmeer’s hair today and Marjory’s tomorrow. Unlimited moneys for ANet!
The missing link standing in between you, ANet, and all my money right now is “demand creates supply”.
Add Maddie’s hair to the list
