GW2 is the least grindy MMO I’ve ever played. Nothing ever felt like a grind to me.

Other than getting a legendary, which is VERY grindy and very, very, very boring; but I chose not to pursue that too actively. So it’s probably not going to happen. (At my own non-grinding rates, it will take me years.)

In the OP’s defense, there’s nothing really desirable to get with laurels.

Okay, what? It’s obviously a matter of preference, but I could spend laurels every day and not run out of things to shop.

See? It’s all kind of pointless. No cool skins or anything. All current Ascendeds (aside from backpieces, which you can’t get with laurels) aren’t visible.

See, for me, actual better stats > some purely cosmetic skin.

I am currently wearing an ascended amulet that gives me a +15% karma boost, which helps towards getting my legendary.

But I also like crafting starter bags (I haven’t mastered all of the crafts yet), dye kits, and… not a huge fan of minipets in general but I might actually get fancycat.

PS: the dailies are really easy to get for me in 20-35 minutes; even when I don’t play overly much the I run out of monthlies halfway through the month and then I’m just a bit bored.

I have mixed feelings about this.

On one hand, I am happy with Flame & Frost offering all sorts of different things – from gathering to recon to soloable instances to regular dungeon. With the variety of things available here, I wasn’t overly sad that a 5 player dungeon was ONE of them, so to speak.

On the other hand, if I could have played the Molten Facility dungeon on my own or with my partner, I probably would have.

I don’t mind this one too much though, mainly because the dungeon is SO much more fun than the regular ones (bodes well for the future) and partly because the two PUGs I ran with so far were quite fun and didn’t ruin it for me

And to be honest, if the SAB required 5 people to play, I would have played it significantly less. I ran it solo or with my partner twice a day roughly for most of April, but a proper dungeon run is more of a commitment and there’s no way I would have done THAT twice a day. No time!

(I still wish that story mode in the regular dungeons scaled for 1-5 players. For special events – meh – I can team up once every other month.)

Competent NPCs: Braham & Rox

All I can say is that both Rox and Braham seem to stay alive for a lot longer than NPCs on previous dungeon runs of mine (including every member of Destiny’s Edge).

Staying alive, they deal damage and revive (and are actually worth reviving, too, now). It makes them feel like a part of the team, at least more than any of the other NPCs I’ve encountered before, which I usually completely ignore.

What a kitten waste of time to put effort into making temporary content. It’s all for nothing in 2 months, and players who join after that will never even know about it.

They’re giving us free new content each month for our non-subscription accounts, rather than releasing a pay-for expansion? What a waste of time, indeed.

I didn’t have that problem, but I played with a friend in a group of 2.

What you can easily do is explore Divinity’s Reach – the points of interest, vistas and so forth all give good exp upon first discovery. Then there are a handful more cities that do the same AND give you access to all the other low level maps.

Soooo, Crazy and I were running the SAB together and he had to return to Rata Sum to sell baubles, and then he couldn’t get into my character’s instance anymore.

He saw the “join your party” prompt but when he clicked to confirm, nothing happened. Only the “normal” prompt for an instance of his own was operational. I later experienced the same when I tried to join his instance.

We’ve tried different things – me joining his instance, him joining my instance, disbanding our party, closing/restarting both our GW clients – but nothing seems to help.

When he left for Rata Sum for the first time and tried to re-join the original instance, my character happened to be in the “continue coin” room – that’s the only thing I can imagine possibly having something to do with this. I don’t know if it is reproduceable. <— Just leaving this here in case somebody at ANet gets SAB withdrawal next month and feels like debugging

Pixelpumpkin.4608

However it is a speculation.

This ^

For reference. I was physically sitting next to him when he glitched – we were doing our regular daily semi-speed bauble run; finding secret areas was not on the agenda (we’ve completed all that weeks ago).

So I know that he didn’t do anything special at all. other than suddenly saying “whoaaaa” and ending up in that vast "underground area. He wandered around for a bit with me watching, took a few screenshots, and then re-entered the SAB so we could finish the frog boss.

I can also confirm that he tried to find some sort of hole to suicide into for about a minute, which seemed faster than re-entering, but didn’t find anything. (that’s not to say that auto-kill areas don’t exist down there, but we didn’t encounter any.)

but I don’t believe this MMO has that glitch

You’re entitled to your belief, but I find it really, really offensive, Shadowlancer, that you would outright call Crazylegsmurphy a liar – if you would have been in the room with us, you would not need to “believe” what did or didn’t happen – you would know.

I have quite a few people on my friend list by now; some for dungeon runs, some for RP, etc. I keep setting nicknames so I can remember who’s who and how we know each other, and my lovely friend list keeps forgetting / resetting them.

(If I’d be able to create lists within the friend list I wouldn’t have to rely on the nickname feature, but this is the only tool we have available, so this is really inconvenient.)

Pixelpumpkin.4608

Hmm, when I levelled my main, there was more going on on the maps, plus I usually run with my companion, and between us we manage well enough even when nobody else is around.

But I think nowadays players spend most of their time on either low-level maps (where you can get easy dailies) or the maps that have lucrative boss chests (dragon and such). What’s confusing to me right now is that Sparkfly Fen is one of them (Tequatl), so it should be busier than many other maps in the same level range.

What server do you play on? My best advice is to get some people on your friends list that will tag along once in a while.

As for your other question (are you doing it wrong?) I wouldn’t know, I don’t play a warrior, but it doesn’t strike me as weird that you as a single player would struggle with group events and champions your own level. Group events are designed to be done by groups of people after all. I can’t solo most of them either. So no, I don’t think it’s you specifically.

(That being said, there are probably builds out there that allow you to tank really well and solo all the content, but if you’re not a min-maxing power gamer sort of personality, you might not find any pleasure in designing your build around this.)

PS: Good username.

Pixelpumpkin.4608

I just wanted to quickly say that I really appreciate ANet trying out new mechanics within living content, such as in lost & found and the periscopes.

I feel that we, the player base, have been giving ANet too hard of a time (too boring, too difficult, too spread out, …) over things when the living story content, right now, is a learning experience. ANet are trying out new things and also listening to our feedback and adjusting content accordingly.

That’s why I believe that the living story content will be better and better each time.

(I also think that getting new content in a non-subscription game cannot be taken for granted.)

I do get a little sad when people come to the forums and post comments like “who the hell cares, Flame & Frost is super boring anyway” and similar. I think we can all sort of see where you’re coming from, but really, cut the guys & girls from ANet some slack for their experimental, adjustable and free content… Please? Thanks.

I don’t think #2 will actively bring anybody back to Southsun Cove on its own, but I love the other two ideas.

+1 and +1

I agree that Southsun Cove needs a cool meta-event, and all the ingredients are already there. And while I’m not too positive that ANet will put any new regular dungeons in the map anytime soon (living story aside), I would really like a dungeon there. Point is, I love the island’s “underwater” aesthetics and would really enjoy more of that.

The map already has to jumping puzzles (1 super easy and 1 super hard), and karka shells are a valuable crafting ingredient, so both of these bases are covered. I was sort of hoping that it was going to be involved in some aspects of living story some time, too. After all, the NPCs are now vacationing right next to some really mean karkas who totally own the map.

Besides that, Hoelbrak would be a good place to have a jumping puzzle maybe with one of the lodges, or even better, a mountain climb?

Ahhhh, I think the Shiverpeaks have a lot of mountain climbing already There’s already the vista at the top of Owl lodge, and the Shaman jumping puzzle explores that aspect well… I’m trying to think of something new.

Maybe something that involves the Sons of Svanir settlement a little more?
And the other idea (not mine) was of course jumping up the giant ice statues, which would be awesome as they could be made slippery, giving them different mechanics from most other JPs.

For The Grove, “up the tree” is the obvious one, followed by “down the roots”, maybe with underwater parts…

Enemies respawn too fast in my personal opinion

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Pixelpumpkin.4608

Pixelpumpkin.4608

The problem, for me, is that yes, I can probably mow through most (but not all) mobs fast enough to avoid respawns; but I enjoy a longer fight against a vet or champion. It feels more epic and more relevant.
Random mobs respawning left and right and stabbing me in the back can quite easily tip the scales AND kill the fun.

I don’t want to just blast through a cave as quickly as possible, I would prefer to be able to stop once in a while and enjoy the beautiful landscape, explore, solve a mystery. With respawns being this fast, I barely have the time to do anything other than fight. I don’t object to fighting at all, but the balance seems off.

(I am aware that there are vistas, jumping puzzles etc. where you’re safe from mobs – but the next best random dredge mine (etc.) usually doesn’t have these.)

I’m actually happy that you have to go to WvW for some POIs and such, because this is exactly what made me check out WvW for the first time. I then took an interest in it.

I wish there were a small number of PvP locations, too, included in the world completion achievement, for the same reason. It is good to encourage players to leave their comfort zone once in a while and see (maybe even partake in) something new.

(That being said, I am still working on map completion myself (the blue keep in EB -_-).)

~

I would be open to see a change to the mechanics as long as the above would be retained in some way -

The mists aren’t in the world. We shouldn’t need them to complete the world. There should be a secondary completion for WvW and if you do both, get a title like Legendary Cartographer.

- this makes total sense to me.

I have played online games for over 15 years. I have yet to have a single one of my accounts “hacked” so clearly it is very possible to avoid being “hacked”.

This is a logical fallacy (and bad argument).

You can improve your chances by taking certain safetly measures, but just because it hasn’t happened to you specifically doesn’t mean that you’re safe from it or that it was a bigger achievement on your part. Maybe you were also just lucky, most people are.

The future of SAB

in Super Adventure Box

Posted by: Pixelpumpkin.4608

Pixelpumpkin.4608

If somebody has an elitist mindset, they WILL find a way to talk down on other players or ruin the gaming experience for others; they do not need prestige weapon skins for that.

I’m fine with the current system. A month is more than enough time to get the resources together for that one weapon skin that you really, really want for your own character. (I personally didn’t see any that I wanted this time around, so my bauble bubbles are just sitting in my inventory. But I would have had no problem obtaining one or even several.)

I have no problems with items saying “I was here”. And also no problem with these items (the store-bought ones anyway) NOT be resellable. This way the affect on the economy is minimal.

I am also happy that the items you randomly find in chests, should you be so lucky, CAN be sold. I found a greatsword skin that I simply have no use for, but someone else might want it – fine, take it. I’m happy I made a little gold in the process (I was seriously broke, too).

All in all: everybody should just be glad that these weapon skins didn’t drop from purchasable RNG 8-bit chests :P

My minor complaint is that I would’ve liked to purchase the minis with baubles, but, meh, whatever. I’ll live.
