I don’t duel, so I don’t have any feelings either way, but:

- I understand the concerns regarding the WvW queue. I see that WvW is currently the only way to do PvE duels and that it is practical, but I think the queue concerns should take precedence.
- I understand that people want to duel each other with their PvE getup as opposed to PvP getup.
- I support adding a duelling option in PvE. (Maybe in a fixed location such as The Bane, as suggested here https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Main-City-Minigames)

I was once on an RP realm on World of Warcraft due to exactly what Penatbater.4710 said, it was more relaxed and people were a lot more nice on there.

Tarnished Coast is the equivalent server in GW2 (North American servers).

TC is also very active (and doing well) in WvW.

Does anyone else hate SAB?

Pixelpumpkin.4608

I thought the idea was cute at first, but then I started seeing 8 bit mini pets and back packs and fireworks, etc. While I tried the SAB, and thought it was boring and just not fun, that’s one thing. But now, all this has crept into the pristine, high res world of Guild Wars. The weapon skins have high res animations and detail, but all the other stuff is, imo, ugly, blocky, and low res. This ruins the immersion of the game, and clashed greatly with the rest of the art and detail of GW2.

I love the SAB so, so much myself, but I do have mixed feelings about the 8-bit content in PvE-land. I agree that it is anti-immersive, albeit not any more so than some of the other equally tacky content that has always been around. I have come to accept this as a part of guild wars 2. /shrug

If it is any consolation to you: it is a fashion right now, and the effect will wear off, and (most) people will replace the 8-bit gear with whatever the next hip thing is.

That being said: no, this does not make me hate the SAB one bit for I am having too much fun and it is awesome.

If I had to pick one, I would say inside the city; this would bring life to the racial capitals in the same way as mini-games might. Bring people together in focus spots and just allow for stuff to happen. (Lion’s Arch achieves this by having crafting, banks, and black lion traders all next to each other. Other cities are laid out differently and could use some “city development”.)
Example: roof-to-roof course in Divinity’s Reach, starting and/or ending at the tavern.

The most fun might ensue if jumping puzzles and mini-games were in the same location or even somewhat integrated (on a story level).
Example: Tavern JP, possible to relate it to bar brawl…? (Think the secret door/shelf in Lion’s Arch)

In addition, self-contained “outside” jumping puzzles would be awesome for making players explore areas that aren’t “downtown”.
Example: Down the Great Collapse in DR. (Awesome idea by the way, stjf!!)

But there’s really nothing to say that a jumping puzzle couldn’t be both… just look at Troll’s End in LA, starting “downtown” and taking you outside of the city, and that’s after a crazy labyrinth of a course to even get to the starting point.
Example: lengthy sightseeing tour (beyond vistas) with awesome views of the city, an obstacle course through all levels of DR. Also finding awesome locations that otherwise you wouldn’t have access to… think Jenna’s balcony.

I don’t care too much about rewards, the usual chests work fine for me; I think having some more awesome jumping puzzles would be the biggest treat for me. Well, and achievements, because I’m the sort of person who likes checking things off her checklist.

Charr fighting arena should allow you to challenge other players to a duel.

… This is honestly the most perfect place Anet could ever have for PvE player dueling, it’s arguable as a training area to fit into lore, gets people to go visit the Black Citadel, and it’s well out of the way for people who aren’t interested.

I know, i have done them all, and know it’s a pvp zone, i spend most my time in wvw. Point is, it would simply be nice to have a place in wvw where you can hang out with the opposition to have a break from the endless bashing & pvdooring. Just meet the guys & girls on the other side, hang out, before you get out and bash each others head in again and take their keep. For all ic are even admire each other and thanking for the good fight they put up and share experiences.

For this reason I wish /map or /say covered all teams (at present, I’m not really sure why we need /map and /team if they both go to exactly the same people).

But a neutral zone (be it the JP or an Inn somewhere or whatever) would also be nice.

For people who use the “war” example all the time: people on different sides of the fence have always communicated with each other in real wars, too.

Best or most enjoyable GW2 class pairs?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Pixelpumpkin.4608

Pixelpumpkin.4608

Yes, the game will be marginally easier with 1 or 2 guardians / warriors. But not necessarily more enjoyable. If it is honestly all the same to you both whether you play melee, ranged, magic or non-magic, then go with the obvious choices; but this should not be the priority.

Seriously, go with whatever class “feels right”. If you feel like playing an elementalist or ranger, do it. If you have fun, you will be a better learner and a better player.

Also, levelling in GW2 is really quite fast, so if you pick a class and around level 10 you realise that you don’t like it, you won’t have wasted much time at all and can easily start over.

There is no “wrong” combo in GW2 that will screw you over or get you stuck in a corner.

(I think you will end up spending more time discussing which crafting disciplines either of you should level… :P)

Maybe through all this id make a suggestion to ANet, put in a surrender emote or a plea to be left alone emote, something which is clear that a player doesnt wish to engage in battle anymore

It’s really good of yo to think about this and come here.

People use /wave, /sit or other emotes to signal peace. (I don’t think /surrender is needed, really.)

Yes, some people just want the JP achievement. I let people pass on my home map. When I’m on an enemy map, I might engage in 1 vs 1.

But the first steps I took in WvW maps were FOR the jumping puzzles, and I am very grateful that many players have the grace to let others just do their thing without making things difficult for them just because they can. I prefer to keep it enjoyable for others, too, when I can. People who want to fight find opportunities everywhere in WvW, it doesn’t have to be the JPs where you continually bump into people who are there for the achievement.

The other philisophy is, “all is fair in WvW”.

There’s no right or wrong here, you’ll have to figure out for yourself which philosophy to follow.

Asura were supposed to have Polymock (or minipet arena) of this I am certain.

Charr could customize and race vehicles? or maybe battle things gladiator style in their arena/auditorium?

Sylvari? I’d say Seed Turret Tower defense (maybe parody plants versus zombies).

For the Sylvari, you help raise Cabbage Patch Kids.

The humans are supposed to have a shooting range and a bar brawl- I would really like a bar brawl.

I LOVE all of these suggestions!
(I’m aware that some of them had already been announced.)

For Divinity’s Reach: A jumping puzzle down The Great Collapse could be combined with some mini-game. (Independently of mini-games, I would love for all cities to also have their own jumping puzzles.) See also: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/suggestions/City-Jumping-Puzzles

No. Then whats the relevance of your statement?

I know a woman in game who had an honest to god fear of heights. Well a fear of falling anyone. Even easy vistas are very challenging to her. So I portal her places sometimes. What’s the big deal?

If I didn’t, she’d not be able to get zone completions. I’m happy to help out.

There’s no big deal there at all. (Portaling her next to all the jumping puzzle achievement completion points would be a medium deal to me.)

I’m with the OP on this one.

I was portaled up to Troll’s End some time ago and got the chest and the achievement. I didn’t feel like I’d conquered the jumping puzzle, or that I really deserved the achievement. So I went back some time later and did the jumping puzzle ‘properly’. Only now I can rest easy, knowing that I got the achievement for it and deserved it too.

That’s only me. (I also finished all but 2 jumping puzzles so far without the use of stability or speed buffs).

I honestly don’t care how many chests people get or how easy they have it getting them. Some people play more than me and some play less than me.

For achievements, it is a different cup of tea. If you can get them by bypassing the entire thing that you’re getting the achievement for, it does lessen and cheapen the achievement for anybody who’s spend actual effort pursuing it.

So I agree that portals in jumping puzzles are “far too useful” and actually defeat the purpose. I do think that it is fair game to use your skills in jumping puzzles and also to help your team members; but I wish it was limited to specific situations (help someone with one really tough jump; help someone not take falling damage; etc.) rather than bypassing the entire thing.

I am not trying to make this game more difficult for everybody, and in fact there is plenty of chests in Tyria that aren’t jumping puzzle rewards and that you can easily get with or without portals and I don’t give a kitten about that.

(I can’t say anything to the WvW thing as I don’t have enough WvW experience on either side of the fence to have an informed opinion.)

Actually, the character/class distribution seems very even, according to gw2census. Yes, you have a handful more warriors (13.6%), guardians (13.4%) and elementalists (!) (13.7%) than Engineers (10.9%), but it’s hardly that “nobody” plays an engineer.
http://gw2census.com/charts.php?pie=total÷=charprofession

Secondly, I hear all kinds of different things from different players – that warriors are the most boring class to play or the most fun to play; that they are completely overpowered or underpowered; and I’ve pretty much heard the same for most of the other classes as well. Makes it seem balanced enough to me…

Right so if all the bottle behave one way but one bottle behaves completely differently and you keep drinking it for like an hour till you max out a title, how can you possibly not know that’s an exploit?

These bottles used to lia around in regular maps, too – I remember finding them occasionally. I only know that they were removed from the game because the whole thing blew up on the forums after Cragstead. Until then, I thought they were fine to drink, and I would still think so if I didn’t frequent the forums.

Incidentally, after finishing the instance for the first time I wandered around the Cragstead ruins admiring the map and finding the bottle, thinking it was placed there as a reward. While I didn’t go for the thirstslayer achievement, I wouldn’t have held it against other people if they did.

Same with items in the shop that are sold under value, especially early on in the game when players don’t have a “feel” for the economy yet. Again, I didn’t stumble across any of the underpriced karma (?) items but if I had, I would have bought them without a second thought.
(1. Please note that I am a teamplayer and have no intention to cheat my way into wealth or whatever. I’m just here to play the game, and casually at that.)
(2. People make mistakes, and shops underprice items by accident all the time. If legal (as for their own TOS) they then don’t deliver, so if you buy an iPad for $50 from Tescos and they end up canceling your order, that sucks (other shop had to honour their contracts and deliver); but what doesn’t happen in real life is that you purchase an iPad for $50 from Tesos and then get sent to prison because, well, you should have known better than to buy this iPad.)

I assume that there is exploits that are abused maliciously and repeatedly, but not all exploits are so black and white, and that makes me uncomfortable…

What do YOU want in any future stories?

in Personal Story

Pixelpumpkin.4608

My unrealistic wishlist:

- More of an actual impact of choices. My last choice was to a) try to find a relic or b) study the books to come up with another plan. It felt irrelevant as a choice as I knew both paths WOULD succeed in the next instance. Make failure a possibility with a new story arc that spans over more than one instances.
- Take into account my character’s creation choices such as upbringing and other things to determine the dialogue and voice acting.
- When friends join me in personal story instances, NPCs shouldn’t complete ignore them.

My semi-realistic wishlist:

- Inclusion of guild in story.
- Replay chapters (but with the “roads not taken” greyed out in dialogues)
- More impact of early character choices later on; the second half of the story felt awfully generic.
- Impact outside of personal story instances (logical choice would be home instances and/or player housing).

I don’t need the ultimate epicness in my personal story (I never asked to be “The Commander” or “The Slayer” – not everybody strives to be the hero of the story) – dragon fights should be large scale and open world. I’d rather have more personalised stories on a smaller scale – like the first 20 levels of the personal story, just more of that. So:

- Smaller scale personal story chapters that are episodic and can be played in any order, so the hero’s journey just continues in random directions. Not race-based; by level 80 you would have made personal connections in all of Tyria.

Im not really sure what this discussion is about. Was there a ban for that alcohol thing to get the achievement? I seen a video of it somewhere, don’t you have to do a quest that takes a short amount of time just to get one drink? I mean, if thats what this is about, then good luck to the people who did it. I really don’t care if they did it, especially considering it would be time consuming. Just because I have to go buy drinks with karma or coin to get my achievement, I really don’t care.

There was a bottle in an instance that gave you unlimited drinks.
There used to be more of them, but they were removed from the maps, but when that instance was released, someone apparently put the wrong item into it (special bottle instead of regular elixir of heroes).

The normal bottles that give you only 1 drink per bottle are still in the environment and, to my knowledge, ok to drink.

Would you pay gems for support?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Pixelpumpkin.4608

Pixelpumpkin.4608

Most products come with free support because your customer has a right to expect the product to work, or to have help when it breaks down within the first 2 years. The European Union explicitly gives customers that right.

That’s too vague to be true.

Software companies offer license contracts that cover the most basic support (that customers need to get the software to run) or third level support but in many cases and support beyond that (second level support) is covered by a separate maintenance contract. Many software companies don’t even offer first level support (helpline for the users) as the customer (a company themselves) has to handle that in-house.

See also: SLAs

Source: working in the industry, Europe.

In case of GW2, the customers are individuals, not companies, and I agree that they on principle shouldn’t have to pay for service. However, since GW2 doesn’t have a monthly fee and their own resources for supplying service/support are limited, … Not everything works perfectly (if you think that everybody’s happy with the support quality and things don’t go wrong, please have a look at the “Accounts” subforum).

Buying support with gems: doesn’t strike me as a great idea, as this would mean that rich players would have an advantage over poor players with their account issues…

You’re running along and notice a group of 20 rats in some cave. You realize that if you stick around and stomp a few, you can quickly get your daily, and lifetime indiscriminate achievements.

Is this an exploit, or part of the game? Why?

If I were stomping on rats in a cave, I wouldn’t think of it as an exploit, because there are rats in a cave. However, I also know that doing what I’m doing, whether an exploit or not, isn’t hurting anyone. Furthermore this example is self-limiting. Once you get your achievement, you get no more advantage to continuing to do it.

The same criteria applied to the drinking of overly-available wine, and that one turned out to be a ticket to banland.
