Please Address the Female Human Animation

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Pockets.3201

I found the animations jarring but the mini pets amusing. The difference to me is, I’m used to seeing the minipets around me. Seeing a mini in a cut scene is mildly amusing. Seeing my female char idly kicking the ground at a tense moment or stretching sensuously while consulting with important people felt very wrong. It was jarring to see it. Animations convey emotion. They showed my char having inappropriate emotions and behavior at the wrong time. It made my char behave in such an inappropriate way that in real life no one would have taken her seriously.

I don’t know. I’d find it quite appropriate for my character to look bored and uninterested whenever Trahearne is doing anything short of dying horribly.

Its a trade off for us since human females practically drag their greatswords along the ground because they are so very heavy,

You mean human females carrying the two-handed sword by their side like light-footed, mobile kitten ninjas instead of Conan the Barbarian?

It just doesn’t look that way to me. Looks more like my ranger is struggling to keep it up off the floor instead of being prepared to hit something with it.

people who qq about gw2 tend to forgot about how bad most mmo’s are and all that gw1 and gw2 did differently to change that.

Just because other mmos are worse doesn’t mean people shouldn’t bring up their issues with this one.

I think people are ignoring the effect it would have on the general population.

A lot of players don’t really put a lot of thought into the game on their own. They rely on guides and the like, see what the “pros” do. If a lot of the high end speed clearing teams are excluding certain professions then these people will too. They won’t think to question why, it clearly must be the right thing to do if people better at the game than them are doing it.

When you have to make LFG descriptions though, and filter who pops in manually, less are willing to do it because its too much work for them. This suggestion would make it take just a few clicks, and it would become far more widespread.

That simply isn’t something that needs to be made easier.

Where exactly should the first people who bought this mini do their research before they buy?

The hero panel? No mini there.
A tiny picture on dulfy?

If research is impossible before they purchased it then your post makes no sense.

If nobody can get a clear look at the mini without someone first buying it, then whoever first does needs to understand and accept the risk of buying something blindly, which includes accepting whatever condition it is in. Everyone else past that can gather and share information from the first wave of buyers.

The first wave accepts the risk of buying it blindly, and it is pointless to complain about what it is they’ve bought because they didn’t have to buy it and could have waited to be in the next wave of potential buyers. After the first wave, there is no longer an excuse for anyone who buys the mini to complain about not knowing what condition it was in, since they could have asked around in-game to find anyone else who had bought it first and had plenty of time to figure out what they would get.

This shouldn’t even be a thing.

Not letting us see what we are buying before we buy it is incredibly shady, especially for something we can’t get a refund on.

Kind of shows a lack of confidence in the product, or a hope that lots of people will buy it before the general population realizes its a low quality product.

Pockets.3201

From what I recall GW2 never let you have the same character names, head start till now. So there could be only one Siela Riviere (using one of my name as an example).

I believe that is how Champions Online does it. Pick any name you like and people can use your global name to keep track of which Darkgloom Puppykicker you are.
Only issue there is the possibility of people impersonating others.

champions online use to use your account name so xxxxxxx@xxxxx. There was also no way to hide that info.. every chat message you sent would be charactername@accountname: “hi there how are you today”

so you could have multiple people with the same name, however many people didn’t like having their account name attached directly to literally everything they said.

As for solving the mmo problem with names, I still don’t see how adding numbers to something really fixes it… I wouldn’t mind using my acct tag in game.. Miku, however I would certainly not be a fan of being Miku.6297 in game.

Actually, there is an option to hide it. I only see account names in my chatbox if I hover over their name.

Equalized Healing Skills

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Pockets.3201

Pockets.3201

To make Water Spirit more useful, its healing effectivity shouldnt be calculated only from Healign Power, but instead also from Vitality.
Means, so more Vitality the ranger has, so more should also heal the Water Spirit.
Vitality therefore should count for your self heal, and healing power for the part of how much allies can heal themself through Water Spirit with their attacks.
Then this skill would be alot more useful.

Also 35% chance to heal yourself on hit, is laughable, when there are thieves with Signet of Malaince, whic hhave a 100% heal on hit healing skill.
There shouldn’t be such a low chance just to get heals on hit from Water Spirit for those lousy 6 seconds of duration where it works. At least it shoudl get increased to 50%
Another change that Anet should do is, that the healing doesn#t get simply replaced by the healing of an individual, if it has more healing power, than YOu.
it should get changed that Water Spirits healing powers gets ADDED on top of that of your allies, while they are in teh near of the water spirit. This way WS would become a much better support skill option, especially for classes, and players that use builds with extreme low healing power.
—-

The vigorous spirits trait brings it up to a 70% chance, like the rest of the spirits. Not great, but better.

Not being able to get a decent name

Pockets.3201

This was originally why Anet added numbers to our account names so we could all have the in-game names we wanted. Why they stayed with the same old mmo problem I don’t know.

If adding numbers or extra characters was what he wanted, I really don’t think he would have any trouble getting a name. Adding numbers does not solve that same old mmo problem at all xD

I believe he means that our account names had (and have) numbers. e.g. the .6297 at the end of yours.

I’m not completely sure, and I probably wasn’t there at the time, but i’m assuming there was a period where you could name your character whatever you want, since you have a seperate “account name” as well that is unique and used for getting added as a friend and such, while still having whatever name you want. it’s a neat idea, in my opinion.

I believe that is how Champions Online does it. Pick any name you like and people can use your global name to keep track of which Darkgloom Puppykicker you are.

Suggestion to dev: Loot . . Loot everywhere~!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Pockets.3201

Pockets.3201

There is very little actual loot in this game, and it severely affects how I play.

I often avoid random enemies as I travel, as usually there is no reward for fighting them. Same thing with events. Hell, even going into the Grindwastes I have to ask myself “do I really feel up to opening and sorting hundreds of bags for little to no reward?”

Just so much unneeded clicking, which is really my main issue.

Click to get rid of event medals.
Click to open uneeded “reward” chest. Just dump this stuff in my bags.
Click to get rid of the useless “Look what you got!” window. I can see the icons on the right just fine.
Click to open the seventyhundred varieties of loot bag.
Click more for the wonderful containers that have containers in them.
Click many times to salvage most of it, even more so if its yellows.
Click a good number of times to send resulting mats storage to make space, why can I not set my bags to do this automatically yet?
Click lots to use all the luck from said salvaging.
Click to open daily reward bags that contain things that should go right to storage, like laurels and transmute charges.

Way to turn loot into work.

Mastery System

Pockets.3201

I was able to put a point in Bouncing Mushroom but unable to jump. The prompt that came up was to put a point in Mushroom Lore which I did and it was selected but the game did not detect it, therefore was unable to test.

Also, I felt that theres issues with the gliding:

One, you had to be accurate on when you should pop the gliding wings as there was a spot to get the Mastery orb where I actually had to press space before the prompt appears, in order to get up at the ledge.

Two, during the Wyvern fight where you could use the updraft, there is extreme lag/disconnect/not running smoothly and you get “teleported” to below the platform after while of gliding, Video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DqQqpdk8YOc&feature=youtu.be

Once you glide, your weapon skills is still available though unusable and sometimes it disappears as you can see from the video.

The lag/disconnect kind of throws off the experience and enjoyment of gliding.

You need to equip a mastery you put a point into. Then it gets XP from your XP bar. Its not actually active till you get the mastery you buy to 100%.

The Tournament is part of the game just like Festivals, WvW Tournaments or anything else. The one line doesn’t seem all that obtrusive, at least not to me.

By itself, yes. How often is its by itself though? Its shares the same corner of the screen as local events, the dalies list, the meter for the nearby heart, story/living story information, holiday notices, and more. All of which create clutter up there and none of which, to my knowledge, you can turn off.

Plenty of us prefer to play games rather than waste time watching other people do it. For us its just cluttering up our screens with garbage we’d like to get rid of.

Another solution would be to have multiple zones assigned in a round-robin fashion, perhaps on login. But then its no longer a simple list that’s assigned once, so may not be as server-friendly or coding friendly.

Or maybe just have it regional, like the gathering is?

I’m not sure that’s possible, yet.

Everything we’ve experienced so far with the DE system is exclusively at the zone level, including the two LA meta event sequences. Our one ‘main’ example of event influence from launch – the Orr temples – has been broken by how the megaserver system works too. So at the moment things are tied at the zone level (instead of region) for events.

Unfortunate, really – I liked the feel of the old Orr in that respect. It gave me the same sense of ‘living to make the world better’ that I had in Eve. You don’t get that with Megaserver, though the two new maps are showing it may be possible in other ways. We’ll have to see how the expansion plays out I suppose.

Umm…the old dailies had regional event completion as an option on some days. They would just need to bring that back.

A power downgrade on low-level maps for level 80 players actually sounds like a great thing, as you can steamroll stuff pretty easily in low level areas with a downlevelled 80 character. And it’ll help with low-level area daily events too, as if people can’t slaughter enemies in seconds it’ll give more people time to tag the event.

Can’t speak to the effect on dungeons, though, as I don’t do dungeons.

The AI can be beat by watching the pattern and then working around it. The SP in the Malchor’s Leap cavern with the Eye is a prime example. Once you figure out the pattern getting in and out solo is easy. There are no patterns to follow in WvW, a human player is not going to follow a script so there is no “easy button”. You cannot go to a Dulfy’s to find a walkthrough on how beat an enemy player. Therefore it takes more effort to beat a real player then it does an AI script. People just do not want to put out the effort, it is easier to complain about it until it is changed.

Or maybe its not about difficulty and some of us just hate PvP because it isn’t enjoyable for us.

I’m here to work with other players, not kill them.

Daily Worthless Actions & Daily Achievements

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Pockets.3201

Pockets.3201

@OP – Your actions are not worthless but, mostly catering to you and maybe to certain extent your guildies. The Daily achievements, on the other hand, are designed to cater to you and the community as a whole. So, let’s analyze:

Your worthless actions:

Catering to you:
_______________
|* Finished leveling 12th character to 80 (2nd mesmer)
|* Equipped the 2nd mesmer in full Assassin’s by opening some Raider’s ascended |chests and crafting the rest of armour and runes
|* Crafted ascended sword for the 2nd mesmer
|* Did tier 6 Dry Top and bought 2 weapon recipes
|* Crafted 2 more weapons for the Ambrite weapon collection, for the total of 12/16 |weapons unlocked

Catering to you and your guildies:
__________________________
|* Fractal 50 fast run with guildies
|* Fractal 40 fast run with guildies
|* Full set of Guild Missions (and an extra Bounty for those who missed the first one)
|* Helped a guildie do Vexa’s Lab JP for his Mawdrey

Now, let’s look at the dailies that you listed.

  • Daily Kryta Lumberer — Caters to you and excess items go on to TP for sale to the other community members. Hence, this achievement helps the economy.
  • Daily Activity Participation — Populates an activity instance, gives you an opportunity to do something other than what you’d do normally and exposes you to another part of the community. Imagine, how would you feel if you, one day, decide to take part in one of those activities, like sanctum sprint, and find you are the only one sprinting. Will that be fun?
  • Daily Dredgehaunt Cliffs Event Completer — Again populates a zone, creates an environment where a newbie may get help from another player.
  • Daily Fire Elemental —A Boss event with rewards, something that can’t be tackled solo. Hence, it helps the community while getting you couple of nice items to use/sale on TP.

There is some thought process that goes into designing a game. Some of which may not be readily apparent to every member of the community but, the thought process is there. So, let’s reserve our censure about things that we do not understand immediately.

Event Completion Dailies overpopulate zones, causing events enemies to be wiped out as they spawn and making it very difficult to get credit as none scale to the numbers that show up and aren’t built to handle lots of exotic/ascended geared characters.

They are one of the worst dailies they added, making other people being at the events with you a negative thing.

People didn’t need to be encouraged to hit world bosses either. I’ve never seen one of the ones in the rotations under populated and putting dailies where you may need to wait an hour or more to do them is a bad idea, especially since the only way you’ll know its time to do them is to use an external site for the timers, which the game does not tell you about.
