“Not for laurels.”

A lot of folks don’t get that part because their only perspective is their own. They like or are at least ambivalent towards the task that yields the shiny. Everyone wants and can use laurels. Daily APs are less relevant as there’s an eventual wall for dailies (I don’t know if this event’s APs are included in the 15k cap or not, though).

The bottom line is that this is a PvP minigame set in a PvE environment. For those that like PvP it means more in-game money (through envelopes and laurel value) with absolutely no downside other than whatever annoyances DB may inherently have for everyone. For those that either don’t like PvP or don’t like these sorts of hyperactive mini-games and aren’t inclined to “game the game” by AFKing or otherwise screwing the intent, it’s a pain in the posterior and requires either giving up the benefits or grinding your teeth and doing the only thing ANet has seen fit to provide as a means to the end.

Everyone has a choice to do or not to do. The problem is that most, if not all, of the reason for doing anything in this and likely all MMOs is linked directly to the reward. In this case, the reward is universally attractive. The means to it isn’t. And it isn’t surprising that tying the entire event to a PvP-style minigame is going to divide the player base.

Of course they attached a desirable reward to the activity. Its the only way they’ll keep up the numbers on people doing it.

Most of their holiday themed PvP minigames just aren’t that fun, and many have issues, especially Lunatic Inquisition. The fact that they leave them running too long doesn’t help as the novelty runs out quickly.

For LI and the winter activities they made them repeatable for AP. That probably wasn’t enough, so this time they tack on laurels, which are more difficult to ignore due to how useful they are.

It doesn’t help that this event is pretty much just envelope gambling and dragon ball, so they really need to push people towards the latter as much as they can, and gate the envelopes too so people who really want them will play more dragon ball so they can buy more after ten wins.

5 Dragon ball wins a day, are you serious? I really want to play a luck based pvp game for an hour every day, thanks.

I also reacted the same way. The entire point of nerfing the previous daily system was to let us have fun instead of grinding, then they come up with this. Forcing people to PvP is never a good thing, and it shouldn’t take long until we have a load of afk’ers in this activity.

No one is ‘forcing’ you to do this. You get that right? You could GASP choose not to do it and go and do some other activity you actually enjoy.

I’m not sure what you are asking for here. Why would you need to put your gold in the bank? Has anyone even reached the limit for gold they can carry?

Complaining on AutoBalance in Dragon Ball

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Pockets.3201

Pockets.3201

Auto balance has nothing to do with the reward or vice versa. Or did you want some sort of reward tied to each match whether you win or lose? The thing is that this reward would end up being like Wintersday gifts where the majority of it was junk. The match average between 3-5 minutes (less if you hop and get lucky) so imagine how many rewards someone can accumulate.

Perhaps they could do a reward track like in PvP which is tied specifically to the activity.

Autobalance often kick you into loser team -> no win reward / no win counter.
Lose not rewarded at all.
Autobalance misused.

Auto balance is working as intended.. it fills live games before starting new instances.. so in a round about way it helps to reduce the “oh this team sucks, I’m outta here to get into a better one”.
Just how effective it is.. well that’s another story maybe.
Each game may only be 3-5 mins long but with players looking for the easy win there is always some that just drop and try to hotjoin a winning team.. so I for one am glad their is at least some chance of a penalty.

Personally I would prefer it if ANET implemented something more in line with the grouping time out idea.. you drop from a game before it finishes then you get locked out for a penalty and then get placed into auto balancing… WIN – WIN

It doesn’t always fill live games.

I’ve been on a map with only three of us. One dropped from my team and the person on the other team was nice enough to let me kill him over and over since my team had points already.

I’ve also been on a map where there were only two of us…on the same team. Other person left and then I was in the match all alone. Made for getting the achievements for power ups really easy though.

But that isn’t what he’s talking about. He’s talking about being on the winning team and then getting shunted to the losing one to balance things out because members of that team are bailing, having your win stolen from you as you are randomly picked to go over to the other side.

And I can’t blame people for bailing when I see so many teams with people just standing there to be killed over and over to get the match done asap for their two quick losses to finish off the holiday daily.

How is Debuff count handled in other MMO?

Pockets.3201

In the now-defunct City of Heros, DoT’s stacked, and debuffs (-damage%, -hit%, -regen, etc) all stacked multiplicatively. it was possible, with enough debuffers, to completely floor even a boss’s stats so they hit once in a blue moon and for very little damage. Meanwhile, you could debuff the kitten out of their defense and damage resistance as well. “Support” builds were weak one-on-one, but godlike when you started force-multiplying.

Oh yes. I miss my trapper, I really do…

And this is why we can’t have good things.

In all seriousness, can we all agree that “more options for character creation” (the true core behind this post) is something that should be debated, and not how deviants view virtual avatars? That’s almost a completely different topic for Dr. Phil.

You said you never lost a debate…

Yeah, I underestimated the power of trolls derailing my thread. As for the other players I listed, mind you their debate stances were in my side. They were just more detailed in their arguments. I don’t think I would have anything to argue against them, but if I did, it would be a good time.

How deviants will use said avatars is very relevant.

I occasionally pop into an older MMO where the character creator is more expansive. As of late the number of people creating very young characters for sexual purposes has become enough of a problem that the GMs were required to make a public statement on it.

I’m sure Anet would be more than happy to not have to worry about that anymore than they already have to.

I believe the main point of keeping it random is so that the people that don’t have people to bring with the aren’t constantly rolled by premades they can never win against. Which keeps the activity accessible to everyone.

The New Dailies -- Feedback welcome

Pockets,

PvE exclusive players do not need to go outside of their preferred game mode any more than do PvPers or WvWers. We (I am a PvE player) may choose to do so if we do not choose to do a given PvE daily but that is not significantly different than. pvPer being faced with dailies involving a class that he doesnt even have on his account ?or lacks sufficient experience with to have a solid chance of winning, or that he just doesnt like playing) or a WvWer facing specific tasks that are not enjoyable to him (its not particularly un to take a keep or tower or to defend an objective solo for example).

I don’t agree with the class specific dailies either, but I’m not a PvPer so its not really my fight to pick as I can’t speak from that side.

The zone specific events dailies are making a lot of people not want to see other players around, due to competition for credit and false event reports. The opposite of what events are for. You waste a lot of time, and possibly money, running around for events you can’t possibily reach in time.

You can need to wait and hour or more for world bosses, and need an outside website to know when they’ll show, its ridiculous.

And double fractals? I haven’t heard anyone cheering for fractals on there.

Yeah, you’re limiting yourself by not doing achievements/modes that you hate. The great thing is that you do not have to do these achievements to enjoy the game. Everything that you did before the change you can still enjoy now.

PvP and WvW not needing to go elsewhere to complete their dailies if players choose to play only that game mode? Yes, it’s true. They only need to do 3 of the 4 given for that specific game mode. Did you happen to notice that it’s the same for PvE as well? I guess not.

The daily achievements are based on the entire game and not each game mode individually. If time is an issue, do some WvW one. You’ll notice that the majority of them are actually PvE as no interaction with players is necessary as you’re just fighting NPC’s, standing in a square, or buying stuff from a vendor.

No, I can’t do everything I did before, because I used to be able to get achievement points every day by doing whatever dailies I could manage, without touching PVP at all. Points which gate some things there is no other way of getting.

I have never done WvW dailies and not had to deal enemy players. Some are specifically targeting daily requirements for easy kills.

You know what though? Maybe I should start up with PvP dailies. I’ll get a book, or my 3DS, and start sitting in the corner and having fun till I find a team that can carry me to a win. I’m sure they’ll appreciate it.

Sure. They can add more PvE options but they should be on the more difficult scale as daily achievements go. People want more option? Okay. But they should not be ones that you can passively complete.

why, are you afraid you can’t show how l33t you are showing of daily completions?

the early ones were perfectly fine for PvE, the current ones are garbage.

You have the daily login reward system to be rewarded for hardly doing anything other than logging on once a day. They are trying to get people to break out of their routines and do things that they normally wouldn’t do. The daily system is doing just that for many people as evident by several posts by people in the forums and the chat within the game.

The daily system is not there to reward you for playing however you want. I’ve looked at daily systems in several games, including GW1 which this game is based off of, and none of them were passive “quests”. They were all specific.

Why is it you feel WvW and PvP should get rewarded for pretty much just doing their thing with their dailies, but PvE should not? Why shouldn’t they have to step out of their modes and go do PvE, which they normally would not?

I have to dip into WvW sometimes to complete my dailies, especially on double fractal days, but I don’t get rewards for them. Just worthless WvW XP and badges I’ll likely never need.

PvP requires people to play and win using various classes. These are also a very narrow aspect of the game where there are not many variation of achievements available compared to PvE.

If you’re doing the achievements for the individual reward, then don’t do them. Why are you complaining then? If you’re doing them for the AP, then yeah, dip into WvW.

If its good enough for one mode, its good enough for all the modes.

They still get to do something they enjoy, even if a little less with a new profession, while I get to do something I find as enjoyable as swimming in a pool filled with rusty razor blades.

The system spans across the entire game and not on just one game mode. If you don’t like the options for a specific game mode, and you refer to only limit yourself to that specific game mode, you have only yourself to blame. Sorry if that’s coming out a little harsh but that’s how it is. GW2 isn’t just PvE, PvP, or WvW individually. It’s all of them together.

The twelve achievements availability hasn’t changed in over a year. All that did change was to make them more equally dispersed across the three game modes.

And there is part of the problem, I’m “limiting” myself because I won’t do activities I outright hate. Its a game, its supposed to be enjoyable.

You say its not just those modes individually, but are still ok with PvP and WvW being able to not need to go elsewhere for their dailies. WvW more than PvP. Aside from wanting cosmetics is there ever any time when WvW players really need to step outside their game mode?

They can add more achievements to each mode each day, and simply make some of them less zone/target specific. About half PvE ones are often far more time consuming. From racing other players to try to get event credits in zones because there are too many there, to fractal runs you many not even have the gear to do, to waiting hours for specific world bosses and requiring the use of timers outside of the game to even know when to show up they are currently very unfairly weighted.

There is no upside to cramming a specific zone full of players to destroy events, or getting them to hit certain world bosses, since I’ve never seen a regular world boss not have enough people to finish them in short order. They could generic those achievements and most of the problems would be gone, aside from fractals, which they seem really desperate to get people to play.

I’ll play fractals when fractals start giving actual rewards.

I wouldn’t find it as bad if the teams were ever balanced. I’m always either struggling with a short handed team or rolling over people with the over populated one.

Hell, my last match last night started with just two people…on the same team. The other person swapped and then dropped out after I killed them twice. At least I was free to farm the power up achievements after that.

The vast majority of the Silverwastes, the most recent area they gave us to keep us busy, is grind.

Grind events to get badges to get extractors to grind breach/vinewrath bosses for parts/carapace boxes for the collections.

Sure, its optional, but this is the content they want us to do.

Technically, the whole game is grind if you look at it that way. Grind events to get the stuff or the experience, or the achievements. Grind WvW for its stuff. Grind dungeons for their stuff. Grind anything you want for gold so you can buy more stuff you don’t need.

. . . honestly, it’s thankfully less of a grind than real life is.

“Its not as bad as real life” isn’t a shining endorsement of the activities.

Until this DXP weekend I’ve never used events for leveling. I’d just complete maps as I played, hit events if they happened nearby and weren’t annoying ones. There was no grinding really, I leveled no matter what I was doing. And that was through five of my level 80 characters.

I don’t WvW, so I can’t say much there, and I rarely do dungeons as I don’t have many people to do them with, and find much of the gear from them ugly.

Hell, I despise player run economies so I don’t even use gold that much. I’ve never had more than 200g in my pocket at once since launch.

I’ve manged to avoid most of the grind. Until the Silverwastes anyway.

Cause really, what else am I going to do at this point?

The raids will likely be big open-world events like Triple Trouble, Marionette, Tequatl, or Vinewrath. This is ArenaNet we are talking about, after all. They don’t like doing things traditionally.

Let’s edit this down:

There’s almost no evidence that traditional raids are good money makers for the companies, which makes it less likely to me that they’ll do them.

Yeah, even Blizzard admitted that raids can alienate a very large portion of the player base because of the raids not being accessible to them. It’s why they just ended up making the LFR tool and started making raids easier.

Only when that’s the entire focus of all of their content patches, and the only reason raids had alienated players is because of difficulty, nothing else. After LFR was released, raids went from being done by single to teen digit percentages of players to 60-70%, based on statistics gathered by mmo-c.

Even if raids were WoW heroic-level of difficulty, that would be fine. Not every piece of content needs to be accessible by every single player. Only when the only focus is on this small group is when it becomes a problem.

I kinda does need to be accessible to at least most players since they don’’t put out enough content to keep people occupied as it is.

So if A-net announced anything else besides an x-pac, what do you think it would led to. The exact opposite; threads of “where are the ones that said there was an x-pac”. You think they won’t be gloating. Neither is people who whine, complain and QQ. But yet they are a part of the community.

I, like everyone, would also support for skipping cut-scenes. After perusing the thread, some cut-scenes are skippable while others cannot. Impossible to skip is not stated. Rather, it is tedious and error prone. So, Anet has told us that it is not impossible to program it to skip. It’s just very hard to make it a reality. While I sympathize with the complexities of computer programming and coding, is there not a bright graduate in the company? Not to step on anyone’s tail, but would just like to add my name to the list of supporters for the skip button.

I’m sure there are many bright graduates in that company. Which doesn’t mean that when you prioritize all things that need to be done this will fall to the top of that bright graduates list.

The worst part isn’t skipping cut scenes. The worst part is having to repeat those scene multiple times to even attempt an achievement you failed. It feels unnecessarily punishing.

It’s stopped me from completeing at least one achievement out of sheer annoyance.

We could use a “district” panel to see the multiple copies of a map, and how many friends and guildies each map has. You could access this panel by clicking any waypoint in the area, and using the third additional “District list” button that would appear in the panel.

And even better, guilds being able to create private copies of a map if they have enough online people in that map, by paying lots of merits and influence, then those copies would appear with a “lock” icon in the list, and will be available only to the guild, members of the same alliance, and guests.

Oh, but we need alliances and guild guesting first. Yeah.

I kinda doubt you’ll ever see that.

Free map hopping would be a bit abusable, for one. And I don’t think they’d go for anything that splits the community for these big events. They need as many people in there as they can.

[Sugg] How to fix the Zerker Zerger problem

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Pockets.3201

Pockets.3201

What I’d like to see are additions to dungeons that leave the baseline experience alone but reward a bit of gear diversity and going out of your way.

Berzerker speedruns would stay the same, but what if there were completely optional side paths that could be opened on the way through, with extra rewards, that were more tuned to being tanky, or having better heals?

Areas where active defenses aren’t quite enough, non-rezable NPCs that need to be kept protected and healed to progress, persistent environmental damage in said area, or more.

Or perhaps side bosses you can DPS down, but maybe its faster to have more durable members keep them busy while half the party gains access with that giant cannon to shoot them with.

Ideally berserker gear users would still be able to do said areas. Just be more difficult for them.

—Snip—

That is a pretty big generalization.

So that means PvErs like myself who have spent countless hours theory crafting every single combination available across all 8 professions with any augmentations from full offense to full defense and spending tons of gold putting these things into a play test have to go find another game or just stick to PvP?

That we should just be okay with every single PvE twitch streamer devolving all dungeon content into corner stacking kills and presenting the game as if we were running mobs into a grinder machine in minecraft?

I cannot be proud of content that is represented in that way.

WoW players can label themselves as Raiders and be proud of that. I want that same level of pride for GW2 PvErs.

I’d rather not see anything on scale of WoW raiding. Its certainly not anything worth being proud over.

Issues with character art, weapons, or armor?

Its likely been mentioned before, but since its still and issue I’ll mention it again. When wearing the magitech leggings my character’s thighs clip through the skirt, or perhaps its the skirt clipping into her, even when idle.

The New Dailies -- Feedback welcome

This is going on for almost 2 months now. I know Gaile has reported our opinions. Just wondering what Anet is doing with her feedback. Will there be any changes coming up?

They won’t tell us until they are ready to roll out the changes, if any. Just like how this system was rolled out.

Loot Tables affect RNG perception

Problem is most of the “loot” is, as people have said, blues and greens. They are so ignorable if you are out of the leveling phase they don’t feel like loot. They are largely crafting mats that I have to pay to break down. Yes, I have to pay money to make them useful to me, and take the time to break them all down. I’d love to be able to click a setting that makes them all just drop as mats instead, or autosalvage as I get them.

And this is on top of so much of it coming in bags upon bags now, requiring us to unwrap our junk before we can pay to break it down.

I’ve never really heard of anyone complaining about getting exotics though, poor stat combos or not. Many of them have interesting skins and the stuff they break down into is almost always useful.

Is the personal story still bugged?

So, basically, I shouldn’t play my personal story.

If you have hopes of them ever putting Fear back in, no.

Even with my ranger parked right in the worst spot for it though, the storyline WILL work. I just happend to be in the middle of a part of the story that got moved to the last part, so I did it, did the part that naturally came after it, and then did that part again, cause it was now last.

At no point was I stuck though.

The rearranging was such a mess. My ranger had to do one arc of story twice due to the order shuffle.

[Suggestion] 9th Profession: Chronomancer

We really don’t need more professions when they can’t handle balancing the ones they already have.

Also, mesmers already have a time warp.

You haven’t even read the entire thread, by looking at your time of posting this reply. I don’t think your post is really justified unless you take the effort to read it…

I looked over the major points well enough and my post wasn’t a judgement on the quality of the suggestion. We simply don’t need more classes right now and time manipulation is already covered, to a degree, by mesmers. I’d rather see them get more related abilities than make a whole new profession for it.

I had a lot if trouble with the eyes dropping.

You get a box that can be turned into any eye piece from the story. Hold onto that so you can use it to get the last piece.

Also, try to get the extractor uses per cycle. Use Extractor, tag boss, leave and run to next boss. Wait outside until your boss dies, then use extractor and tag the next boss. Finally use an extractor on the vibe wraith. Thats three chances per breach for a 1/7 chance at your piece.

Didn’t they kill boss tagging during the breach with that extractor attunement they added?

No can do. Like any MMO such things are there to waste the time of the players and keep them logging in.

Same reason we are asked grind day after day foe stuff, such as in the Grindwastes.

Come in, have a drink, listen.

If you use them correctly , you should’t even get hit.
There are arah solo videos for all the classes, so I really don’t see there is a problem with defensive mechanism for pve.
If people get one shot a lot , they should really stop wearing zerker gears.

But zerker gear is the only acceptable gear to wear! Very reliable sources have told me so.
