The Immobilized Bug

Power.2957

This is not gonna be another thread pointing out the bug or how it works (as those threads already exist, in excess, and have for a long time) but rather an attempt to engage in constructive discussion about how it can be addressed.

It boggles my mind that this gamebreaking bug still exists in game and (to my knowledge) still hasn’t been addressed by ArenaNet.

Rather than try to fix the bug, how about we try to work around it? The technology/logic already exists in the game tell to tell whether a player is on the ground or in the air (try and drop a bundle item while falling or after jumping and see what it says) so why not use this ability and do one of two things:

  • When you are immobilized in the air, the condition should be delayed or not take effect until it is verified that you are on the ground.
  • When you are immobilize in the air, you get a pre condition that upon landing turns into immobilized.

…OS is arena for “large fights” or just GvGs…

FIRST of kittenING ALL, Obsidian Sanctum IS NOT an arena for "GvG"s. Obsidian Sanctum is a jumping puzzle where you can kill other players. End of. If you want to liken it to a PvP game mode it is more similar to Slayer or King of the Hill than anything else. You "GvG"ers are delusional and you disgust me. There is no such thing as GvG in this game and what you are doing is NOT GvG. There are no keeps or bases, no flag stand and no competitive plays. You stack buffs on a zerg (albeit ineffectively considering AoE in this game maxes at 5 targets) and then have at in on a completely flat surface. It is pointless, it is rewardless, and it is plain silly. The only reason ArenaNet ever added that warrantless “arena” was to stop whining from both sides- the WvWers complaining about the "GvG"ers out on the open map and the "GvG"ers for existing. Obsidian Sanctum was once lively and used properly and it is an absolute tragedy the state that it is in now- a large part of which was caused by the “GvG” community and the overall WvW community’s constant kittening.

Orphan Laine's Letter

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Power.2957

Hi there Calabit, this indeed is the wrong forum for this thread but I’ll help you out anyway. Upon checking a few things, I came across this tidbit on the wiki:

“You can still finish the scavenger hunt and feed Grawnk the delicacies after Wintersday 2014 ended. When you go to your home instance, Grawnk and the orphan will still show up. Talk to Grawnk and he will tell you where Sous-Chef Seimur Oxbone is and you can still find him, although his icon won’t show up on the map like it did during Wintersday. After feeding him three times, you will still get the collection unlock item and you can then go do the jumping puzzles to get the ornaments. Once done, you will receive credit for the achievement and get your home instance node and the Orphan’s Generous Gift.”

It doesn’t explicitly mention that you need the letter to get the Wintersday rewards, so how about today when you log in, go to your home instance and see if you can start a dialogue with Grawnk.

Best of luck!

Can confirm the system is still…questionable. 2 days ago while duo-queueing with a friend I faced the Abjured in Unranked. We thought it was funny because we knew our combined MMR was high, but I mean, kitten . It would be nice if Anet would try just a little harder to make proper matches…I know it’s been argued there’s a trade off between matchmaking and queue times but I feel like most people wouldn’t mind waiting longer to face even teams. Maybe unranked uses a slightly less specific algorithm that ranked. Idk.

Two uplevels = 2 upscales, regular engi, a regular guardian = 2 noobs or wvw zerg runners. What I had read wrong? You just can’t kill 2 decent duelists (good skill and build) in 1vs2 on shatterer most time. So suggest u go again to do some pvp at 1×1 servers to see real state of matter.

You’re still failing to see my point. 4 players on auto attack, whether 2 of them come from up levels or not is more than enough pressure to kill a SINGLE (not to mention glass) player. The arguments in this thread that Mesmers are weak are invalid and unfounded. I should stop reading this sub forum because it is not the Mesmer profession sub forum. If it’s Anet then how come I never lag and only been DCed twice since I have played this game since launch, no it not Anet. I’m on Comcast in Denver maybe that I live less then 3 miles from the major data center hub for Denver I’m not sure if this helps but I never lag and none of my in game friend lag either, so not sure what the issue is but its not Anet. If it were Anet then everyone would lag and that’s just not the case.

This forum is for people who are looking for technical support. It is not supposed to be a discussion about whether or not ArenaNet is at fault for running a laggy service. The only reason this discussion is happening is because people like you come in here and waste everybody’s time. It is evident a lot of people are having issues, so whether or not you are having issues is irrelevant and that is why you shouldn’t be in this thread.

Gearing/Stats for Revenants

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Power.2957

Power.2957

I did some thinking today and…

What we know about Revenants/what’s been repeatedly emphasized is that when you swap legends you have a whole different play style available to you. E.g. Mallyx seems like he’s gonna be all about spreading conditions and the Dwarf is supposed to make you tanky. How is this going to work for gear/stats? If I run a condi build I typically want my gear to be rabid/carrion, but if I run a tanky build I want to be in soldier’s or cleric’s. E.g. I don’t want to be “tanky” in full zerker gear. How will Revenants be able to take full advantage of their gear given how many different stats it sounds like they will need to be effective? Is swapping between legends going to provide a boost to the stat that all of it’s skills would most benefit from? Or is everyone just going to end up using celestial gear?

CONVERSELY: We know that swapping legends changes your utility skills and not your weapon skills. Can we assume then that the utility skills won’t depend on your stats as much and rather have strategic or defensive use most of the time? Does this mean that if I wield the correct weapons I could play a power build regardless (for example) of Mallyx’s apparent design around conditions?

Not a valid reason if I dare say so. Why do you have to be in the Mists to accept? Can’t we just accept from WvW and just get ported right to the arena instead of through the mists first?

My understanding of Grouch’s response is that if they were to allow you to queue from anywhere, players might get the queue pop while loading a map. E.g. you’re in Divinity’s Reach, walk into the portal to Queensdale and as you are loading Queensdale the pop is waiting on you to respond. The queue pop lasts 20 seconds- 10 to say ready, 10 to choose a map, and some players take longer than 20 seconds to load maps. To make sure everyone is able to see the pop, they lock us all in Hotm. Otherwise people might get dishonored.

I agree with you though; like I said earlier- it all boils down to lazy programming.

Don’t see how your comment is relevant. Someone asked why we have to wait in HOTM to queue, I gave them the response I got in game. Next.

Alrighty, this screenshot should clear some things up. See attached image.

Sounds like a fantastic solition would be to bump the queue accecpt timer up to 1 min, and allow us to do sone other things while waiting.

That would work or they could check that everyone selected is fully loaded before they present the queue. Or they could fix dishonor because it’s obviously broken. Why should a loading player get dishonor for missing the queue when people who afk in HotM are simply taken out of the queue? Why not do that for both?

It really boils down to lazy programming if you ask me.

Return of keg brawl?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Power.2957

Power.2957

I have to agree with Serelisk as I too absolutely believe closing Keg Brawl for 86% of the year has done nothing but harm it. The healthiest time for Keg Brawl in recent memory was during the Festival of the Four Winds where you could get into Keg Brawl several times a week because Sanctum Sprint was taken out of rotation. It was always crowded and there were multiple instances. While there were 2 (actually 3 if you count the Aspect Arena) activities up at a time during the festival, none of them had any population issues.

The popular opinion of the activities rotation is that it was implemented to encourage people to try multiple activities/different things. In fact all it does is add to the ever-growing list of time-gated things in this game. Want to work on the Keg Brawl achievements? Well you’ve gotta spread it across weeks when in reality it could be accomplished more quickly than that, because Keg Brawl is only here for one day. When I go into activities I see the same people- but they’re unique to the activity. If I go into Sanctum Sprint, I see Shane. He loves racing games and in fact was a top tier rollerbeetle racer from GW1. If I go into Keg Brawl I see Serelisk and the gang from [PUNT]. If I go into Crab Toss I see the same cheeky asura that loves to farm the fishing pole. The reality is the activities are very different, and this attempt to force people into playing different activities does nothing except waste time because if people don’t like an activity, they simply aren’t going to take part in it.

To get slightly off topic a bit: It is incredibly disappointing and frustrating that ArenaNet has adopted this new ethos that time-gating things is healthy. Rather than introduce compelling content to keep their players interested, they have decided to take the cheap route and force (and pretend like it’s not forcing) us to play for longer periods of time than should be necessary to accomplish things in the game. If I already have all the materials to make a set of celestial armor (for example), why should I be forced to wait an entire month to create it? What purpose does time-gating serve other than to sucker players into staying logged in to their game?

I would like to see Keg Brawl separated from the other activities (as it was originally designed as such anyway), or ideally all activities separated from one another unless ArenaNet can provide valid reasons for this current system.

hm…am i the only one seeing this thing ugly? wooden stick + glow woohoo. even tempest staff is more appealing, not saying crossing, delusion, zodiac, ascended, phoenix..and many more. hope its not new legendary

…Have you seen the Bifrost? It’s an albino pineapple on top of a bone stick.

This staff DESTROYS the Bifrost. I want it so bad and I don’t even have/like norns. Plus I’m sure it would have an aura, footsteps and a different (maybe bird-like) projectile…

I really do hope they finally put it into the game. I’ve wanted it ever since that YouTube clip came up =/

Maugrim, I appreciate that you’ve made this thread – but don’t get your hopes up. At least 30 threads asking for something to be done about the state of Obsidian Sanctum have been made (such as mine: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/wuv/The-State-of-Obsidian-Sanctum ) and Anet has yet to comment. I doubt they haven’t noticed, so I think they just don’t care. It’s a shame.

Because investing time into something that will have a noticeable and direct impact on the game AND provide something new and refreshing is worth the time and effort.

Doing the same for a jumping puzzle most can’t be bothered with is a waste.

The only time I ever saw anyone at any of the WvW jumping puzzles was when they were part of the daily/monthly/tournament achievements. Beyond that they’ve each been ghost towns and I’m at OS quite a bit for GvGs.

ANets got to have metrics to determine how often these chests are openned. If they came back with a number even close to triple digits on a day-to-day basis I’d be shocked.

You’ve clearly jumped on the Obsi bandwagon since they added the “GvG” arena. If not you would know how active it was in 2012-mid13

I’m 100% behind bertrand and like 5% behind the OP. The only reason no one goes to the puzzle is because of the loot. Rarely are people griefed at the puzzles because they’re so far out of the way from normal WvW few waste their time checking on them. Even if they had a similar design to EotM to try and get more people on a single map, they’d still be just as empty because of no reason to do the puzzle.

People in MMOs do things once for fun, a second time to see if anything changed, and a third time for sentimental value. Any other time beyond this is done for loot.

Now as to the changes brought up in the OP? I don’t care. Changing OS to act more like EotM will open up further GvG oppurtunities so that’s positive. All the rest isn’t going to have an impact unless the loot is improved so it’s a complete waste of time.

Honestly, we’re better removing OS from WvW entirely and just making it some underground map. Throw in some random NPCs and call it a day.

Replace it with some random PvE zone that is ‘cloned’ and has all the normal worldserver rules like a PvE zone does. The only difference being anyone who isn’t in your guild is flagged as an enemy.

Mentioning that they should revert the chest back to being open-able by multiple characters was a reference to loot.

If Obsi had a match making style similar to EoTm it wouldn’t be empty “because of no reason to do the puzzle.” When I go in there, if I’m lucky I can expect to see 4 other people. 1-2 from each server. I imagine this is proportional across all match ups. If they were combined like EoTm, suddenly the puzzle would be active again. If not because of people motivated by loot, but because of people who actually go in there for fun.

You complain about my suggestions, most of which are reverting changes back to their original form, and call them a waste of time, yet you say “remove Obsidian Sanctum from WvW and make it some underground map” then make all these further new changes like implementing a new combat system. How is that not going to take/waste significantly more time than rolling back the map?

bring back the chest being able to be opened up by all toons that reach it.

Attach the Sanctum back to EB

Put sentry’s and capture points in the Sanctum.

Add supply depo to the Sanctum.

Add underground towers deep within the jumping puzzle, and have a backdoor into Stone mist at the end of it protected by a mighty door.

Haha cool (but far-fetched?) ideas. Unfortunately I don’t think Anet would go that far :P

The only fix it needs is a rare chance for unique loot from the end chest. The tears from the PvErs would be unbelievably sweet.

Doesn’t need to be anything powerful. Rather, something unique and neat cosmetic stuff, such as the queen bee from the VineWrath chest.

An exclusive drop would definitely bring back the numbers if the people farming the Vinewrath are any indication, but I doubt Anet will do that =/

You’re pretty wrong about GvG being dead, but that aside, I support most of these changes. I think just having a megaserver’d OS would go a long way towards encouraging activity.

That said, I completely disagree with putting it back in EB. Your rebuttal is a straw man because it completely misrepresents the reason people wanted it out of EB in the first place. The reason is because you had to own your EB keep to be able to access OS, and often the outnumbered servers rarely owned their keep (see T3 NA matchup), denying them access to the map altogether.

I know you had to own your keep to get into the Jumping Puzzle but I’m not aware that was ever a big issue o_O In my experience that gave puzzle players a reason to contribute to WvW- they were all aligned with the goal of getting back the keep so they could go back to Obsi and it was often very fun pushing to get back the keep when outnumbered. Then again, in T1 I don’t think we’ve ever really had long periods of being keep-less.
