Fortifying Bond is a nice trait, too bad your pet only gets a small portion of your boon directly from this trait or it could be used much more efficently from range aswell, but a boon is a boon and that’s never bad

Fortifying bond is effected by your boon duration. As are the stacks of might from mighty swap. As is the might granted by the sword auto attack chain.

This build has 30% increased boon duration thanks to traits and runes. That’s a significant amount of boon uptime for your pet and for you.

I know but it’s still only a small portion compared to longer direct boons for example you could use warhorn from very far away obviously double stacking boons would have to be handled diffrently then though but yeah that was all I meant.

Ah true. Like puandro said the Fortifying Bond mechanics require boon duration. I think also playing melee/melee helps as you and your pet spend more time within range of eachother to get the super buff from warhorn 5 stacking with Fortifying Bond.

Yep, the trait’s got fantastic synergy with RaO too the might will stack bloody fast, I used to run it before but I did it mostly cause I wanted my pet to get the regen from healing spring from range then and saw the rest as bonus, but one reason I dropped it was when I realized they didn’t get the full bonus of the boons though cause I prefer to play ranged in general and the setup I had then didn’t really benefit the most from it.

25 Stacks of might for the pet in about 3 secs with Warhorn #4.

Yeah I’m abusing that as much as I can although I don’t have this trait though but it’s still a ridiculously strong opener for fast nuking, there are other nice attacks for this too like the drakes F2s idk if they are all equally as good and bouncy but the green one with poison will do the same for you (25might in 3s) if you have a few targets anyway.

Problem i found with drakes is that people run through it or strafe and F2 misses. Its good in group fights but solo not so much.

Sure enough players will always be harder and I wouldn’t recommend a drake in any case if you only have 1 target, however some drakes are better than others for instance the stupid ice drake will miss his F2 everytime but the (riverdrake?) burping poison locust will do his sideways on his target heck I even think he shoots it backwards he hits nearly everytime even if they are actively avoiding him depends on who you fight naturally, point is: to simply strafe isn’t enough.

Like with any pet it’s up to us to make sure the good abilities land when we want them to, some pets are easier to help than others.

But i need a dps pet so River Drake is the only drake i would use. When it lands though….. ooof.

That’s the lightning one? that one is pretty good too he’ll also aim his lightning somewhat and has big coolpoint bonus on looking like a giant frog

ATM we are the highest DPS bunker so that means high danger for solo GC who try to solo us at our point. At the same time we are the weakest group Bunker due to the same reasons that makes us strong alone, the pet.

To the people who think they are going to buff our damage and remove it from the pet, keep wishing buds. That would involve boosting ALL of the weapons skill modifiers UP and Arenanet will NEVER do that big of a chance for 1 class. They barely do 1-3 skills damage changes per patch you think we are going to get all of our weapons boosted. LOL.

If you’re thinking a Ranger is bunker because of Signet of the Wild usage then you’re doing it wrong.. Cause i use Signet of the Wild in most of my builds, simply because we don’t have a whole lot of options… Bout only build I don’t see it ran in is Trap Builds.

Even Mango Pie isn’t completely horrible for a Zerker Ranger

Anyway, I’ve ran into maybe 2 or 3 Bunker Rangers the entire time i’ve played….

No, I was being sarcastic, sorry.
I don’t really understand the point in saying that pretty much nobody runs BM builds now, specially coming from the people who have spread the builds on the forums the most. Maybe trying to prove that it’s an incredibly unused build so Anet shouldn’t nerf it? I don’t know.

You still call it a nerf when they fixed pet’s F2 reseting on swap, so probably “nerf” has different definitions for us.

We arent lying when we say BM Bunker Rangers are none existant. The build is good for 1v1 or small scale fights (5v5 tops). More than that and the pet isnt that great and your ability to soak damage so your pet can kill is irrelevant. People who do small scale fighting as their main source of WvW is extremely low. Then the people who pick rangers tk do it is lower. Then you have those people deciding if they want to run the build.

Signet of the wild is used in burst builds also. TBH i wouldnt make a pvp build without it.

I’ve never seen 4 BM Rangers Per TPvP match……If you can point out a video of this i’d love to see it.

I’ve also not seen WvW full of roaming BM rangers either..in fact a most of the rangers I fight are Zerker Rangers.

I yolo q a lot and have seen 4 rangers per match too many times, but it’s true that no premade runs 4 BM rangers.

And WvW? I’ve been invited to parties and told “kitten BM ranger stupid build L2P noob” when I wasn’t even running a BM build. So maybe T1 is a bit different.

I used to fight zerker rangers all the time, but now I just face BM rangers who can outheal my damage until they can hide in a keep or run to their zerg.

I’ve not seen many BM rangers in Solo queue either….

and Puandro is on T1 is he not? He seems to have the same response I have when i play my Bunker Ranger….

Yup T1 since Beta. Ive ran into more glass cannon guards then BM Rangers. Most rangers are flop SB/LB with bear pets.

As for BM rangers in tournaments. Easiest bunker to go against on my HGH Engi. I eat more damage from retal against guards then rangers and theit pets.

Its not just my server either, I killed a D/D ele today in WvW and he invited me to group and was like “What Class are you?” “Ranger Right?” “What Build is that” and i had to explain to him my build for 20 minutes, I even dueled him 2 more times to show how powerful it was, He was completely amazed and never seen it once while being on Magnuma Server.

in fact, multiple times in this past week and hell month..I’ve had people invite me to their group from SoS and CD and ask what i’m running and how I play the ranger….and i’ve been fighting them for months…

So that should tell you how common it really is.

Against BG and SoR its the same. Full melee ranger seems like a new class to most people.

sry i am new to ranger, how does it work with 25stacks of might in 3 sec? sounds crazy

Rampage as One gives might to your pet when you hit a target. Using RaO and Warhorn #4 will give your pet 16 might. Then your battle sigil can keep 6 stacks on might on your pet. Thats 24 stacks. When you attack you give 1 might per hit to your pet. When your pet attacks it gives YOU 1 might per hit but since you have 15 into Nature Magic it gives 1 might back to your pet. Easy 25 might.

I love how rangers have to jump through all these hoops and blow all their cooldowns to get these 5 digit crits, while warriors and thieves can achieve the same thing with the press of a single button.

Seems legit.

But your pet is also doing damage. Balance escapes most people.

Using only my pet, and weapon skills, I hold no hope of achieving the same damage numbers as a warrior or thief. I still have to blow all my cooldowns to match the damage they deal with just weapon skills.

Where is the balance?

Rangers do at least 2X more damage than any other class while wearing healing gear. Where is the balance?

2X zero is still zero.

For the record, healing power is a travesty in PvE.

Before i continue i must ask, are you complaining about the lack of damage in Dungeons or PvP.

I will say this. After a lot of thought more than 20 BM on a Condi Bunker build seems a waste.

Depends on if you want the Heal or not. I personally like it, even if its only every 3 seconds.

Well you take the heal to live longer and imho those 10 points could be put to a better use in NM.

Owl is 6 sec chill and Leopard is 8. Trait gives 50% bonus. TBH i coukd think of a better way to spend 10 points for a 4 sec chill increase.

What build are you guys using runes of the forge on.

I’ve not got them, but when I do run in SPvP i tend to use them over melandru.

It’ll just be my regular BM Bunker build, though right now i run 10 skirmishing I might switch back to 10 Natures for its Protection also (plus it’ll bump me to 30% protection duration)

You’re pretty good with math, Maybe you could give me an idea on that..

Also you think i’d be better off putting it on Reyna’s or Apothecary Armor?

Forge runes for condi build? Im not a fan of giving up Regen TBH.

Ranger’s aren’t bad, atm a warrior will lose 1v1 to any of the other 7 classes if they are both good players. If the warrior is better you can win though.

I use Stability on both my Ranger (Rampage) and my Guardian (Stand Your Ground) and quite honestly it hardly ever works.

I still get knocked down/back, get feared.. etc.

IMO, stability does absolutely nothing. I use Rampage for other abilities and with my Guardian I only use Stand Your Ground to remove conditions in my AH build. Sometimes it works, but probably 50% of the time Stability does absolutely nothing.

I dont have this issue you are having.

Use the right pet for the right job. Drakes are an AoE pet so its pretty easy to use F2 against a group of enemies. Use cats/birds for 1v1 dps or dogs for CC.

Great job on the vid & build! Ive been trying out variation of builds for my ranger and have come close to the toughness part of the build shown here on this thread, although the longevity of staying alive has always been my problem. Now that i saw this video it gave me a new idea on how to approach the build i’m working right now.

Any chance of sharing the direct damage version of this build for those who have figured it out? Im kinda working on a similar version but i’m intending to balanced condition & direct damage and see if it works out. It would be of greatly appreciated if you don’t mind sharing it.

I dont suggest to go condi/power mix. I play my ranger with a power build.

Pet swap->stomp

This is an old animation bug. Basically if you quickness runs out when stomping the animation does not slow down. The stomp does actually speed up though. Just dont move until you see the flag drop.

If fortifying bond copied your boons on you to the exact duration and NOT affected by boon duration i wouldnt need water runes. Heck if the fury/swiftness was 5 seconds instead of 3 i wouldnt need them. As it stands atm you need 25% boon duration + Warhorn + 15 Skirmishing to keep perma fury/swiftness on pet. 30% Boon helps a bit since i dont always swap on CD.

Im aware protection gets used up due to the dodge but the heal is pretty bad for yourself. Its 133 every 3 seconds for yourself.

I assume you’ve probably tried going 20 each in WS and BM too and found the reduced sword skill cooldown trait wasn’t worth the tradeoff of the 25 BM trait?

You lose pet dps and a good amount of power for reduced cooldowns. Surviveability vs dps the choice is up to you.

Very cool video and food for thought as I tweak my own cleric’s build to suit my playstyle. Your combat skills are very impressive.

I like the synergy between the 15 Skirmishing and 15 Nature Magic traits, combined with the war horn and water runes to keep fury and swiftness on your pet. Good thinking there.

I’m curious why you chose 15 WS and 25 BM, though. Is Companion’s Defense really better than Natural Healing? I’ve never liked Companion’s Defense all that much because almost half the duration of the protection boon is wasted by the evade anyway and even with a ton of boon duration you’re still not going to get much functional uptime out of it.

Also, would you mind telling what consumables you use with this build?

Rangers: A good class for a new player?

Puandro, you’re forgetting one setup that can successfully ignore the pet…trap rangers. Since we’re made for killing enemies through conditions, our pets are pretty much just extra damage to us.

No the pet is still used more for mainly CC and not damage but its still needed to kill good enemies. Trap Rangers just are good because you can make enemies eat double traps back to back on a point but any pet or range class will avoid nullify them. Not a fan of trap rangers outside of trebbing.

You NEED a stun Breaker. Also tbe pets heal for more trait is crap. Use the bleed on crits for cats.

Pets take aggro from guards now. I might as well quit my ranger and roll an easy mode thief or mesmer.

Way to go guild wars, you’ve killed the only thing dear to me.

Killing people who run into camps thinking they are safe you will be missed.

I always laugh when something is fixed in patch notes and people rage for ANet making things work as intended. I like seeing pets taking aggro again tbh. I kind of missed using mine as a meat shield when things get tough.

Im okay with it being fixed but it was fun. Go check out the rage on the thief forum for the sword #2 fix on shadow return.
