Phantasm mesmer, unbeatable in 1v1?

A phantasm mesmer often has at least 25 in inspiration. You can easily go 30 and get condi remove on shatter. While shattering lowers your sustained damage for a while, it allows you to cleanse 3 conditions per shatter.
Combined with some clone generation with dodge rolls and weaponskills, you can easily double shatter as phantasm mesmer.
Double shatter will remove 6 conditions.
And it’s not like Mind Wrack doesn’t do damage on a phantasm spec. It’s less then a pure shatter build, but it’s still easily within the 3-5k damage range.

Oh and engi actually has some problems. The grenades will often hit 2, retaliation buffed, phantasms, for like 1k damage (~3 times 300), which in return will reflect like 1.5-2k damage back.

You never shatter as a phantasm mesmer or have deceptive evasion, it kills your phantasms when you summon 3.

I wrote that in my post. Yet, if you have to decide between having 10+ bleeding, poison and 10s of burning + phantasms, or shattering phantasms and resummon them (and in the offtime, spawn some clones if needed and just shatter again), well I go for the shatter, as surviving has priority.
Also, you will almost never be able to summon 3 weapon phantasm. They will die at some point. Then you just replace it with the same again. If you are actually having 3 phantasms out, your aren’t getting in trouble anyway, as you enemy is either afk, or not attacking you in any way.

If he is attacking you, he is going to kill phantasms at some point, by random AoE. But that is ok, as you know that a dead phantasm dealt quite some damage back to the enemy with retaliation.

I never get hit enough by condis to make it an issue that my cleanse on heal trait won’t cover. You can always run 1 mantra to cleanse or Null field too.

If they are attacking my phantasm means im not likely to get covered by condis. If they are attacking me ill just chain dodges, blurred frenzy, or stealth and summon a 3rd phantasm and finish them. Classes that you can get 3 phantasm pretty often are Thief due to stealth, guardians, eles, rangers. Also there are better traits than deceptive evasion for phantasm mesmers.

Phantasm mesmer will only lose a 1v1 if they make a mistake. Even if you bring their weakness (Burst or Lots of Condi) they will still only lose if they make a mistake.

I liked the vid few things though.

Coordinate your stomps better, there were times where the thief could had stomped and you could had saved mist form and times where people got rezed because both of you were trying to stomp instead of 1 dpsing and 1 stomping.

Many opportunities where you didnt attempt to dodge for AoE might from your fire ring while in earth attunement, i kept watching your buffs and they hovered around 7-13 stacks instead of 20-25 which they should be.

No attempts at doing a leap finisher to gain fire aura for the Zephyr boons buffs and might while being hit.

Been playing Ele since beta and while I still enjoy the in combat fighting, its annoying to roam around. Also getting away from zergs sucks. On a different note I finished gearing my ranger and I now have more mobility Eles ever had even with 1,550 range RTL on a 15 sec CD. I kited a 5 man earlier today and downed 1 of them but couldn’t stomp because he got shadow refuge and rezed so after 9-10 mins I left them.

I feel safer roaming on my phantasm mesmer than my D/D ele. Between blink/decoy/veil/mass invis and clones confusing bads i get away np. 40 sec RTL on the other hand…. they catch up eventually and kill me.

TBH, i’d drop Veil here and take Null Field or even Arcane Thievery instead (it really got better by the way – always works), just to not get totally hammered by conditions. Removing 1 condition every 15/20 seconds just does not cut it really.

I use veil to stomp and to avoid damage AND to run from zergs. I really don’t suffer from condis, not even from the condi engis running 100% duration. Fight don’t last long anyways phantasm damage is sooo OP right now, #1 1v1 class atm.

The way I understand this. If you use a can trip and gain regent you will cleanse. If you swap to water within 5 seconds and apply AoE regent no one will get cleanse not even your team mates. Correct me if I’m wrong.

I don’t get why people complain its hard to remove conditions. If it was easy then they would do virtually no damage. Take condi cleansing as a way to slow condi damage not as a way to nullify it.

The spreadsheet damage is based off 2,600 armor, which you can’t really compare in live scenarios since some mobs have lower armor (like slave driver) while some have very high ones (Lupicus). Mess with the armor if you like. Also Ele hammer build does less damage then people claim since Bolt To The Heart damage is not what you do the whole fight, only below 33%.

To be fair there’s no other profession that can have too forgiving builds like this. I’m glad it is getting nerf and should get even more nerf with the heals.

If ele’s are giving you troubles now in WvW, the patch won’t really change anything. It will just be annoying roaming around.

Sir Vicent apparently figured it out :P. Yes its a great theorycraft dps tool. With no In-Game DPS tracker this is the closest thing you will get to knowing how much DPS you can do. Just build the rotations to be similar to In-Game scenario don’t make rotations that will probably never happen in game and you will get accurate results.

Edit: If you can’t edit everything in the yellow boxes i don’t know what to tell you. I know someone had an isssue with some boxes when they had it open in openoffice (sp?) instead of Excel.

Good video, only thing i could comment on is that there are plenty of times you could sit in your BP and do an Auto Attack chain before HS into a BS.

Yeah there are times where I could do that.. but if I have the initiative I prefer to HS and BS

It’s not so much of terms of initiative but damage avoidance. Depends what you are fighting TBH sometimes you do want the dps from HS+BS.

Hum… there’s a problem there. Warriors have more HP and defense, so in theory, thieves can deal more damage, but in a real fight, warriors will survive longer/stop less to heal, which means more DPS

You must not do high level fractals since you think the armor/health will save you from damage when both classes are glasss cannons.

Just as I thought, by adding just one dodge to the rotation, the DPS dropped by about 2k DPS.

Great spreadsheet and kudos to the effort on putting this together.

One tiny problem though, when I was adding one of the Delays in the DPS calculator, the numbers were not showing properly.

The formula is correct but the position of the cells were not. The location of “Damage per Second” and “Skill Information” under Delays is one column off. After making this adjustment, the values under the DPS calculator were corrected.

You are right the delays where not actually delaying the dps, this is due to the fact that i built the thief calculator differently since its initiative and not CD based. I fixed it though.

Thanks for the quick fix. I was using the delay in place for dodging which is a drop in DPS every time a dodge is performed.

Ill prob add a “dodge” Skill to the calculator eventually. Finishing Mesmer info atm and calculating phantasms has been a pain but i think i got it. I also managed to break down the weapon damage # for ele conjures so i could figure out the lightning hammer DPS. The #‘s are there but you can’t use the conjures yet in the dps calculator.

It seems pretty complete but still a lot of stuff i could add.

Staff is a pretty lackluster bleed weapon. With an almost 2 sec cast time Staff #2 is also pretty bad to try to use a bleed aoe weapon.

I have to ask about your warrior spreadsheet, does it account for the free bleed stacks you get on crit?

If you build a rotation it will take into account your potential bleed damage based on your Crit %, and how fast you attack. It will be on the top right corner under precise strikes. It has to be turned “on” though under traits to show up.

For the people messing with the spreadsheet, 1 thing i forgot to mention is that it will calculate conditions past 100% duration but the game has them capped at 100% so careful with bleed builds.

Could you go more into which base numbers are wrong as im always hoping to improve it buy i havent found anything wrong.

The skill numbers are really good. I’m really impressed by that, especially seeing all the activations lined up properly.

There is an issue of all the classes pulling off the same ‘classes’ sheet, so you can’t flip directly back and forth between, say, the Warrior and Thief pages – when I have the classes page set to Warrior, I see the Warrior numbers on the Thief pages as well.

This is pretty minor though since the only real differences there are the base armor and health.

What I was getting at was that the traits were not set, and it’s not like gear has been optimized – it’s also assuming maxed boons and vulnerability stacks by default. So you cannot compare classes with the sheet ‘as is’; you have to plug your build in first.

That said, this is a really solid workbook, with most everything I’d want to know in one place. Great job on it.

Yes all tabs pull info from the single “classes” tab, this was due to me not wanting to have a class tab for each one. A simple workaround i do is open 2 sheets.

You can change the traits (if im understanding this well) and it doesnt affect the other classes damage.

You can edit the gear/class/buffs ect to your liking. ATM i just have it default to max Zerk gear and max buffs/debuffs. I recently added banners also which should be available to use in a few minutes once i upload it to the same download link.

Using the numbers in that spread sheet for the thief (assuming same gear as warrior)

The rotation of CnD -> Backstab -> One full Autoattack chain -> repeat comes out as 5245.6 dps

Compared to a warrior rotation of Axe autoattack chain which comes out as 6018.9 dps…

The sheet has a lot of good information in it (particularly accurate attack timings, which I haven’t seen elsewhere), but the base numbers and builds it is using are off. All else being equal, dagger rotation deals more damage than Axe autoattacks.

Warriors deal more damage because they have much better access to vulnerability, might, and fury. Banners and FGJ push their damage ahead of everyone else, when you give them credit for the boons.

If you already have enough Warriors and friends to give everyone permanent Fury and 25 might stacks, Thieves are better in the remaining slots, as they scale better with buffs (though have less access to them).

It trigger every time you attack. If the attack is a channel then it will trigger each channel hit. If your dodge has an effect (heal or damage ect) it will trigger also otherwise it will not.

It doesnt trigger if you move.

Crit damage is out of control in PvE and WvW. While i don’t think Rabid should do the same as zerk since Rabid has toughness, i think an equal stat set should be available for Condis. Rampager kinda tried to go there but flopped.

I don’t want to get sucked into this, but I will post this one last thing. For the record, I say the following because I am an engineer with a profound love of mathematics, and even if you don’t care, it is why I care.

…but you should know 0%-65% = 0. What he meant to write (probably) was 0 – 0.65 (0.65 being different than 65%).

This is technically true, but is only applicable based on how you resolve the percentage to a fraction, which is why even in higher mathematics people aren’t pedantic about it (please don’t be pedantic about it).

4 + 4 * (100% – 65%) = 5.4

That is what i was talking about.
