Changes like this only further alienate the people who enjoy optimizing their gameplay. While I have no problem with changes, it’s just annoying to constantly see combat efficacy in PvE repeatedly decreased as a consequence of something completely irrelevant in another game mode.

Optimizing? So now these people can optimize using the new numbers. By your definition these people should have never been happy, since the numbers could have always been increased which would let them gain even more power. This really makes no sense, they are decreasing the numbers. The max numbers will not exist anymore so there is no difference to optimizing off the new numbers compared to optimizing off the old numbers. The amount of damage will change but again by that logic they should have never been happy, since the numbers could have been increased which would give them a new number to optimize off from.

How does it not make sense to you?

The content itself doesn’t change, but your efficacy in it does. You are still doing the exact same activities but your potential is reduced. Despite your best efforts, you will never be able to outperform your former self.

This is annoying to me and many others.

They don’t balance for WvW — at all… so that’s not it.

My guess: they’re embarrassed their dungeons get breezed through. But that’s because of how many times they’ve been run, which is a result of how old the dungeons are combined with the lack of new dungeon content.

Haven’t you seen the loads of threads demanding nerfs to celestial d/d eles?

Prior to the removal of the professions balance forum there’d be a new thread about it popping up nearly every day, sometimes with hundreds of posts. I am certain this was the primary reason for them to look into toning down might/battle sigils because these were what were arguably the reasons for them being so good, based off of most of the threads.

In PvP-related situations they were (and currently are) able to use completely defensive traits yet still deal average to decent damage due to being able to stack might effectively.

It seems abundantly clear to me that this is the primary reason for the upcoming changes. While it is in the end just speculation I still haven’t really seen any other convincing arguments to lead me to believe otherwise.

Seeing as that’s the only real reason to be dealing more damage and stacking 25 might in PvE… how is that not relevant?

It shouldn’t really matter in all honesty. Nothing about the meta changes, and dungeons were/are being cleared too quickly. It may also just be about general PvE allowing for might to be too rewarding. It certainly is in the open world.

Yea, they could have not nerfed might, but they could have also just increased boss HP by say, 25% to compensate.

So you don’t find there to be any reason to stack might in groups? I’m hoping that’s not what you meant but based off of what you said that’s kind of all I can really infer.

Also the time in which dungeons can be completed isn’t really changing by much in order for the nerf to might being tied to dungeons.

If Arenanet was focused on improving dungeons, they would put forth effort into fixing long-standing bugs.

But even then people would still cry thats all too easy .. so maybe they should remove
leveling up .. so you are level 1 forever .. and already have challenges in the starterzones
and only the best players ever would make it out of the starterzones.

And who is talking about fun here ? MMOs are “hard work” .. there is no room for fun.

Hitting high damage doesn’t necessarily have anything to do with difficulty.

It’s the fact that the encounters in this game are designed so that literally any build and class composition can succeed.

This is a themepark MMO.

This is why the content is easy.

It may be because nerfing might as a whole also nerfs total dps, and they view overloading targets with damage to kill them before their mechanics can discharge as ‘unintended’. Remember how the Ferocity patch was claimed to be undertaken for the sake of normalising berserker accessories, but the critdmg%-Ferocity ratio was also set at a level such that total DPS would be nerfed?

This isn’t the first time.

There are probably more intentions than one in the might change.

If the explanation does not seem to logically fit the result, it may be the case that the explanation is incomplete or wrong.

It doesn’t seem to fit the result. What you said basically can be summarized to the fact that you trust that they have underlying intentions behind making other builds in PvE better, similarly to what some people expected when they announced ferocity implementation a year ago.

The thing is, this kind of a change doesn’t really encourage people to expand their horizons much to try something new. At the moment, some classes have the option of using more than just scholar runes for optimizing their efficacy in PvE (strength runes) and now with the might boon getting nerfed it’s going to result in strength being much less effective than before, making scholar king again. I like scholar, I do, but I’m trying to explain that this isn’t really doing anything positive for opening up anymore options.

The past several months have been littered with people whining on the forums about how celestial D/D eles are overpowered in WvW and PvP, and Arenanet finally decided to adhere to the complaints.

Just like in the past the people responsible for changes like this don’t really concern themselves with their decisions and how they impact PvE as well as WvW and PvP.

Overall a lot of the changes are positive, but we are once again seeing unjustifiably large damage nerfs for PvE because of changes that are inspired by PvP/WvW-related activity [-cough- d/d elementalists in celestial -cough-].

Might: The power and condition damage provided by this boon have been reduced from 35 per stack to 30.

If might’s efficacy is a problem in PvP, then why not do exactly what you did there with what you did with confusion…?

Confusion: The effect of condition damage on confusion has been increased by 33% in PvE only. This change does not affect PvP or WvW.

Why is this change not separated like the above?

Also:

Invigorating Precision: The health gain from this trait on a critical strike has been increased from 8% of damage dealt to 15%.

64004 is also a very comfortable staff build. While it is by no means optimal as far as burst and DPS is concerned, it sometimes is just what’s needed to get things to work.

From my experience it’s not better to line cast Lupi.

If you’re using stone splinters then you won’t get the 10% damage modifier if you line cast him anyways, so any DPS increase line casting might offer for the initial burst would be offset by losing 10% on the impacts.

You’d stack might even faster with THIS though.

With banner and fury, you’re never missing any crits. It’s a guarantee for quick might stacking. 9 might accumulated from 100b on a single target mob + 5 from signet of rage + 3 from FGJ results in 17 might from just the first attack of yours alone.

EXTREME LAG ISSUES

I’m the friend of his that also lives in America yet plays on EU.

I’ve had huge lag problems for months however they were all alleviated when I separated the landline phone from the internet. There’s a modem in my home’s basement for the landline and a modem in the room that I’m now in for the cable and internet. Also to note, my previous modem was in the basement so the signal was slightly worse.

I presume most of my issues was related to signal interference, as I am on wireless.

Because of the fact that both he and I live in America yet he’s the only one suffering from severe lag, it seems obvious that the problem isn’t on Anet’s end.

Does anyone have any suggestions for him to help troubleshoot what could be causing disconnects/lag problems of this magnitude?

Hey, you’re very welcome and I’m glad you’re noticing improvement.

The traits I recommend are 65003 actually, as shown in the build editor link in the post above.

The reason that it’s better than 66002 overall is because of the minor trait in discipline “Fast hands” which enables you to play more comfortably with a halved cooldown for weapon swaps.

66002 is technically optimal, but the problem with this is that it assumes you’re ALWAYS camping greatsword. This can be done a lot of the time but sometimes it’s not good to, depending on the encounter.

An example of the 65003 fast hands build in action:

As you can see, the weapon swap cooldown is only 5 seconds instead of 10 which enables me to make use of both weaponsets. This allows for more comfortable play.

The way warriors stack might extremely fast is by using the forceful greatsword trait (arms X) and particularly rapidly if the target is against a wall so that all of whirlwind’s strikes land.

If the meeting begins to take an excessive amount of time then it could always be broken into two halves so the first meeting could cover the first 2 of the 4 topics and the other meeting could cover the rest.

I think 3 representatives is a hell of a lot better than just 1 from each guild because the more people then the more accurate the popular opinions will reflect what the community wants.

I just am going to throw it out there that I’m concerned what will happen if unrestricted records become a thing because I will be very angry if my favorite jumping puzzles get invisible walled. ._.

It is my personal opinion that if you’re going to prohibit certain unintended tactics, you better be consistent and prohibit the rest of them. That includes the gate at Arah p3.

Sigil of Paralyzation used at Lupicus isn’t a bug/glitch because he has -100% cc duration, as Tom pointed out above. Even if the sigil gave +1% stun duration it would still work. However, whether or not the sigil was overlooked is something that would need to be clarified by a dev. My assumption is that it was overlooked and is probably just as free-game as it is to use wall of reflection on top of the wall to 1-shot Lupi. The two are exploiting something they didn’t intend, but not exploiting unintended features/bugs/glitches. I still really do hate the 1-shotting though, mostly because it allows people that are complete noobs to just bypass the encounter.

This is the solo PvE build that I typically make use of. As long as the boss isn’t heavily armored, there is nothing that you can improve with other than:

a) if the boss is basic and doesn’t ever require weapon swapping, 66002 traits would be ideal for better damage over time provided you camp GS

b) have 3 pieces of armor assassin and 3 pieces of it berserker. this was actually considered optimal long long ago before ferocity and it still is.

c) if you’re able to maintain 100% uptime and there’s multiple enemies within your cleave, you can deal absolute top-end DPS with scholar runes over strength because when cleaving multiple enemies your forceful greatsword trait will proc so abundantly that you would be “wasting” might with strength runes.

All of these things are significant to take into consideration to know what’s situationally best.

Yeah Jerus I do that because I want to start doing the hard hitting spells ASAP once glyph starts, because it’s a pretty short duration. Gotta take advantage of that vuln!

And Xdmatt, I will make a build editor link for you. This is what I used in the video.

Because this build editor won’t let me put the actual sigil/utility nourishment, I had to put Sigil of the Night and leave the nourishment empty. I was using Sigil of Undead Slaying for +10% damage against the undead, and Powerful Potion of Undead Slaying for +10% damage against the undead and -10% damage received from the undead.

But I want to be clear that this isn’t the best trait setup for general staff ele in dungeons/fractals/solos. The only reason I was using this is because I was experimenting with how well it’d perform if I was able to burst my way to phase 3.

Generally speaking it’s better to use one of these variants for staff:
Option 1
Option 2
Option 3

Also note that it’s sometimes good to swap out Signet of Fire for Glyph of Storms in dungeons and fractals.

Good job, but hey I don’t think scholar is best to use on this boss because since it’s a single target you won’t be cleaving anything to maintain capped might. Also, you would need to make 0 mistakes and have flawless RNG to maintain 100% scholar uptime… which would likely not happen.

Strength runes are better for mage crusher on warrior :P

Actually staff is the highest personal DPS weapon for an ele by quite a lot.

I even made a ton of minor mistakes in it.

Generally speaking when using staff in PvE you’ll want to camp fire with the exception of the very start of the encounter where you should begin with eruption (earth #2).

You sound to be kind of early into the class so this might go over your head, but staff is a good ele weapon for PvE if you know what you’re supposed to do and what traits to use etc.

Staff is great, but I run silverwaste and all open world content as d/d. D/f is superior for utility and might stacki bf but you can kill mobs quicker with d/d. 6/6/2 is obviously ide. Lightning rod or fresh air both work great in sw. I use blinding ashes for d/d, it’s amazing

Try this instead if you’re interested in being as supportive to groups as possible whilst still being relevant in PvE. You don’t need to have the mace either, you can swap it to whatever you situationally need, be it a warhorn/sword/mace. Take advantage of being ooc.

Disclaimer: Strength sigil is ideal for PS builds only and shouldn’t be used otherwise.

Never give these people business. If you’re ever buying Arah paths give the people that actually do the path your business. They deserve it a lot more than these Lupi-skipping noobs do.

And to answer your question yes it’s obviously exploiting unintended map breakouts to gain an ingame advantage. It’s bannable. You won’t get in trouble if you’re just exploring but you can potentially get banned for doing what you described in the OP; selling without completing the path.

As for the 1-shotting being allowed in records… top kek at any guild that actually uses it in a record. Personally I’d be too humiliated to do something like that; it’d be equivalent to saying that Lupicus is too hard and that we’re giving up.

Plus as Dub said, it actually doesn’t save any time. It’s faster to burst him in the middle and use a mesmer’s feedback for it.

SC’s p3 was actually pretty interesting. Solid mesmer reflect kill but also their bloopers accidently going over to phase 3 with too much damage.

Eh, I honestly have no idea why so many people mention being impressed by this as if it’s much of an achievement to nearly burst him from phase 2. Phase 3 skips aren’t new and they’ve been done plenty of times before, and they didn’t even manage it that time. I don’t see what’s interesting personally :P

You also can’t hit them when in downed state either. It always will say obstructed.

This indicates the problem isn’t the longbow, but the siege weapons themselves that are bugged.

True elementalists use D/F.

Those who use other builds are obviously picking content that is too easy for them to face, therefore they are not worthy of the knowledge of the elements!

I used to primarily use D/F but since the burning speed nerf it’s just not worth it anymore imo. I rarely find myself using it because the difference in DPS from staff is extremely noticeable. :/

I personally use all weapons. I swap them when I’m ooc and take advantage of blocks, movement skills, and whatever I please. Depending on the encounter I’m about to indulge in, I will swap weapons accordingly.

As a few above have pointed out, no idea why someone wouldn’t want to ever change traits. It’s free.

I extend that statement to apply to gear as well. Even if it’s just one of each weapon, I really have no idea why someone wouldn’t have everything to swap to when the time comes. In the case of warrior, which is supposed to be a weapon specialist, it’s just lazy to stick to the same offhands constantly.

Do yourselves and teammates a favor and be more flexible. Sometimes sword offhand for when you need the block, sometimes mace offhand for the additonal vuln, sometimes warhorn for blasts and swiftness.

I honestly don’t understand why anyone would want to use one build for everything. Changing traits takes less than 10 seconds and costs nothing. Why would someone not want to spend this little time? Running around with a non-ideal build will make you less effective and cost you a lot more time while playing. Not to mention the possible frustration if you lose a duel or die in an encounter just because you didn’t have the ideal build.

PvP has it’s own build anyway, so you don’t even have to spend time to respec for that.

I can understand some new players may not yet be able to afford different equipment sets, but whatever you do in this game usually gives you money so it’s just a matter of time. And once you have enough resources to buy a second set, again why would someone rather keep his money then become more effective?

One word. Casuals.

I stream myself goating around in Arah all the time and have for over a year yet I’ve had devs watch my stream on numerous occasions without any ban threats.

They don’t care as long as you don’t do it for an ingame advantage over other players. For example if you were to skip Lupicus and try to sell the path for profit, they would probably ban you.

If he wants to use only 1 build for everything focus in something that works for wvw/spvp. For pve everything works just takes longer to kill.

The exact same thing can be said for PvP/WvW too. Literally anything can work in any game mode. This game is designed that way.

Why would you go 0 in arms for PvE with knights accessories?

I think 19k hp with dodges, several blocks on relatively short cooldowns, an evasion + displacement skill and the best mobility in the game, is more than enough for survivability against mobs with generic and predictable AI.

Allow the sigil of paralyzation. I see nothing wrong with it other than that he’s normally supposed to be immune to cc. It’s a good counter for bad RNG in record runs without bypassing the entire encounter.

scepters, they are pretty much the most useless weapon of the game regardless of profession, if it doesn’t lack damage it lacks useful skills.
i would go as far as saying that if one weapon needs a complete overhaul for every profession it’s the scepter.

Wrong. Very wrong. They’re good on eles and guards if you know how and what to use them for.

The same bug happens at mage crusher too. If someone is in the area where he spawns before crusher+hunter dies, then she won’t examine the book after he is killed to trigger the cutscene.

You have to restart instance – I have tried luring trash mobs to kill her, I have tried a full party wipe, etc. Nothing works.

First of all I’m not new. I’ve played for over a year and a half.

I made a new character 2 weeks ago-ish. I tried it from scratch and I will actually be constructive.

So without further ado, the pros:

1. Not nearly as much was changed as I expected
2. I actually feel pleased with opening up the levelup rewards, despite whether or not I like them
3. Some of the rewards from levelups are actually good

The cons:

1. A lot of things are level gated for no apparent reason and it seems really pointless. Some of the things are pretty basic too. An example of this is weapon swapping. I couldn’t weapon swap on my guardian until level 27..? Why…?
2. The level at which traits are accessible is kind of ridiculous.
3. Many of the equipment rewards given have horrible stats, like “Shaman’s” that have no purpose in any gamemode. They also cannot be salvaged, so they are useless.
4. I feel discouraged to do the personal story because I feel immediately detached to it knowing that I won’t be able to do it unless I grind map completion or something else for quick levels. By the time I get to the level needed, I’ve lost interest.

Suggestions:

1. Either let us salvage/vendor the items we’re getting from levelups or let us choose relevant stats please. Pretty sure no one needs vitality + healing power when leveling up in open world.
2. Instead of level gating literally everything, why not just take a more reasonable route? Instead of the level gating you could simply learn things from ingame activities/tutorials. Specific ingame activities that are heavily incentivized would be a lot nicer than forcing everyone to spam the first few skills of a weapon over and over again.
3. Allow us to have access to traits earlier please. I’m cool with the way they’re unlocked but maybe add an actual reward per trait unlock? Doesn’t have to be much, but it feels too much like a chore and I can’t imagine many people caring about actually going out into the world and doing everything to unlock them. Most people would probably rather spend the skill points, since so many utilities on all classes are just about useless.

I have nothing to mention about improving the personal story that wouldn’t involve a complete rework which I’m sure they would never bother with, so I’ll refrain from suggesting anything for it.

Anyways, here’s my relatively short post about it.
