I got my kids interested enough to play. My husband plays and even thou granddaughter is old enough to play Pathfinder her dad is not ready to let her try GW2.

Our oldest son’s wife did not grow up being a gamer BUT she has been open to doing some games since the guy she married does them. We did find Wizard101 which is designed more with kids in mind. It was an easier game for her to learn the mechanics of MMO’s and even thou she has tried GW2 she is still more into Wizard101. With the fact that the chat has decent parental controls and you cannot just ask anyone to be a friend or follow anyone … that is the game that we have started the granddaughter off in for an MMO (she’s only.

I don’t find PvE boring nor do I find the drops boring … I don’t find any part of the game boring and I have been playing almost every day since Beta and Head Start. I play to have fun. Goals? Not really unless you count that sometimes I might look at how close I am to Mawdry or Bolt (got Zap as a drop so why not do it … in my time). I might do something that gets me a little closer. Thou it all depends on what I feel like doing at that point in time.

No one knows yet. ANet has not said one way or the other.

The LS is how they were going to do it all. Then quite a few started complaining that the LS was not enough and they wanted a normal, regular expansion. They decided to do a combo, LS and expansions. LS to advance story steps and expansions to do large chunks at once.

My husband has done voice over work. As for royalties it all depends on how much voice work there is and how long it lasts and if it’s covered under the union rules or ….. Lots of different things come into the price that they are paid. Usually thou it’s a one time pay thing. You get paid so much for doing so much work. You may get something extra for some stuff but usually not. And then don’t forget the percentages paid to the managers and/or agents so even if they get, say $500 per day that usually 10% goes to the manager and then 10% to the agent and maybe another 10% to someone else etc. And it’s usually set up so that the check from the company that hires you goes to the manager and they take their cut first and you get it after they are done. And oh yea don’t forget taxes that you are usually required to pay yourself as you are considered self employed and if you have ever looked at being self employed then you know that those taxes are higher than if you worked for someone else.

They have released so much information on what is in HoT already that I and my other half both have bought the Ultimate version of it. Some keep saying that they have not told us anything about what would be in it but there is enough being said for us. Honestly I do NOT want a play by play, step by step guide before it’s released. I am still finding things to see and do that I had no idea was there, even after 3 yrs of playing almost every day. I want to discover new things in HoT, not be told everything before.

Invest time? I have played since Beta and head start and still play almost every day. I don’t “invest time” I play to have fun and escape from RL for a few.

I have several medical problems and the medical community is just finding out what I have known for quite a while. Gaming can and does lesson the pain level so that fewer pain pills need to be taken.

I have been playing since Beta and Head Start. I had a precursor drop within the first month or so ….. sold it as I had no idea really that they were that hard to get. It wasn’t even a weapon that I use so I had no reason to think I wanted to keep it. Now almost 3 yrs later I get my next precursor drop – Zap – it actually convinced me to finish 100% map completion. Had most of the materials anyway because I do loot and harvest everything. I have had that precursor for about 3 months and I am waiting on more part to do and that is the dungeon tokens, I don’t really do dungeons so I have to plan on when I want to grind that part, lol. I think I have done the story path of one of them ….

It all depends on what you are interested in as to what you will go for.

I can’t buy it when it comes out as I have already pre-purchased the $100 Ultimate version. And so has my other half. We played the last beta and had a blast. So much stuff to see and do …… and that was only 1/4 of one part of a map. So many new things with HoT ….

Pretty much everything you do nets you XP. Events give the most thou. Hearts and Map Completion give ok XP but events give more, esp in the “old” maps because not only do you get the XP from the event but you also get XP from doing the event too.

I have 4 right now. I have 3 extra slots from getting HoT just sitting there. I will end up getting at least one of each race just to do the achievements, lol. They are all level 80 but only one has full map completion. The other’s are sitting at around 50% for mapping. Every so often I will work on 5% to 10% at a time per char. Eventually I will get to full maps on all of them.

Let me guess …. you also play Wizard101 right? They have the gardening thing and the mounts and the pets that help in fights …..

I did play it some with the granddaughter .. fun and ok for what it is for. Great starter game for the oldest son’s wife as she was not a gamer when they got married about 3 yrs ago. While she can’t get into GW2 yet, she does play other gamer games including Pathfinder. I have no doubt she will start to get into other MMO’s it will just take some more time, lol.

If no one plays then why do I see LOTS of people in every map I go to?
This game is full of people and getting fuller with not only the F2P but also more coming back into it with HoT expansion coming out very shortly.

There is up to a 4 day wait for that just to make sure that it was not someone else taking over your credit card or a gold seller hacking into your stuff. My other half bought the Ultimate expansion and while he got into the beta last weekend he did not get the other things that came with it for 3 or 4 days.

No I do not see your point. I have been playing games online since the old BBS days. I know to look for any guides or walkthrough’s if I cannot figure it for myself OR in this game I ask in map chat.
What I don’t do is come on the forum and complain that the game does not explicitly tell me everything. I would rather find the “Easter eggs” and be surprised on things.

I did the event once, just once. I got 41 without any problems and not using any “special” methods.

First Silverwastes is not needed for map completion. Second that area under SW is Drytop – http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Dry_Top – and again that is not needed for map completion.

So the issue I’m having is with the world map. There are lots of marked areas that ive ended up wasting a lot of time trying to figure out how to get there. Apparently there are some marked areas on the map that you just cant get to.

You can go to Options – Content – Hide Personal Story and Events
(At least that’s what I think it’s called. Going off memory since I have already done map completion on one of my chars.)
That should show you areas on your map that you have not been to for the map you are on. If you have finished everything on the map for the 100% it will then show you the nearest map zone with incomplete things.
Now to throw a wrench into that … there is a difference between getting 100% on a map and getting 100% total map completion and/or the Explorer achievements. Those require a few more spots and this should help for that – http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Map_completion

I may have seen the manifesto … not sure, I don’t remember. I do know that I have played the first GW for years and liked it a lot. Then seen lots of information on what GW2 would be like and decided to get it. I have played since beta and head start and just about every day. I still play quite a bit and since I have seen what is going into the expansion so far I have already gotten the Ultimate.
I don’t need to know every little detail about the expansion, I didn’t know every little detail about the original when I bought it. Actually I am still finding things and events I had not seen before, even after 3 yrs of playing.

ANet has already said that Halloween will be in game this year. Halloween and Wintersday are 2 of their biggest and always celebrated holiday’s in game.

Now as to what will be available for the holiday this year no one really knows except ANet. Anyone else telling you that it will the same or totally different or somewhere in between has no idea. Until they release it we don’t know what we will have for the holiday.

You could always try looking at the Wiki. You can even get to the Wiki from in game. Just type “/wiki xxxxx” just replace the x’s with what you are looking for.

You could ask in map chat how to get to where you are wanting to go. As long as I am not fighting or busy I will always take the time to give directions or help in game.

You could also look at any number of the other sites like Dulfy.net for information on what you are looking for.

And this is different from what game out there? I’ve played computer games since the BBS days before when all they had was dial-up and they are ALL pretty much “kill this”, “guard this” and “gather this” etc. or maybe a combo of them all.

Did you pre-purchase HoT? If only have the core game and not HoT yet then no you cannot play the Beta. If you DO have HoT pre-purchased then all you need to do is in the Character Choice screen when you first log in is to make a Beta Character in one of the 4 slots available. You cannot take your regular normal character into the HoT beta. You have to wait to Oct 23rd to take your normal regular characters into HoT …. that is if you have it purchased.

No Angry Joe did not cause me to buy GW2. GW1 caused me to buy GW2 and yes they are different games. I knew that going into it. I actually read what would be different and stuff. I had no clue who Angry Joe was until I searched for reviews and found that one. I showed it to both my sons and that plus me hyping it up got them playing with us.

See they did not just want to take their mom’s word for how the game would be they needed to hear more than me talking about it. They still play off and on but with real life it’s sometimes a little hard to get all of us together playing at once. 2 birthday’s ago I had the best present a gamer could have —- I got to play all day (about 14 hrs) with not only my husband but both our boys even while they were in different states. The granddaughter even got on daddy’s account for a little while to play with grandma …. good times that are hard to coordinate when everyone lives in different states and time zones.

I have been playing since head start, just about every day …… and I still don’t find PvE boring.

Going on Steam is not necessarily profit as they take 30% from each purchase along with some other hoops that ANet would have to jump thru.

I don’t see GW2 going on Steam in the near future.

I do the dailies. (Some from the PvE and some from WvW. One the PvE side I do have quite a few nodes in my home instance so I can usually get those done fast. Then there is the “View a Vista” that is easy. Oh of course there is the other easy one of “Mystic Forge” thing. Even if you don’t like WvW there are a few there that are super easy like “Big Spender” or “Take a Ruin” or even “Kill a Veteran” there are 2 easy to get to and the vet animals are pretty easy to kill.)

After the dailies there are the AP given for the “Slayer” ones. One of my chars is set up with just certain weapon’s just to do some of the “Weapon Master” ones. There are also some of the Basic Collections that are easy to do for those AP’s. You could also do the all the JP’s and the Diving Goggles. Then there is also the AP’s for doing the story on different races and stuff. Then there are the “Explorer” ones.

Lots of ways to get AP’s if that’s what you want. Trick for me was to not work on any one achievement all at once as that could (and did) get very boring very fast. It took me getting a Zap precursor dropped in SW from a trash mob to get me to finally buckle down to do “Map Completion” about 2 months ago and that’s after playing the game since head start.

While (drs. orders) I don’t work, I still help out with some plays at one the local community theatres. At that time not only will there be 2 shows playing on the stage and one of them I am doing lights and sound for BUT then A Christmas Carol the musical will be rehearsing AND auditions and rehearsals for Peter Pan the musical will be going on. I already know that I will be helping with rehearsals and running sound for Peter Pan and my other half is the Assistant Director so lots of things to take care of with that show …….. yep I will TRY to sneak in some play time but it may be a little hard, lol.

Problem is if it is PREORDER than you may not get the char slot(s) or any other of the extras for free that is in the different versions. If it is PREPURCHASE than you still may not get it depending on WHERE you buy it.
Buying it directly from ANet gives you the option of support helping you with problems with keys and whatnot. Buying it from someplace else you just may be SOL if the key comes back as stolen and then you have a banned account.
And then if it is a PREORDER that is a boxed edition and then what about the shipping costs if there is any …..

Me? I play enough that it was worth it for me to buy the Ultimate edition from them. My other half on the other hand has no time to play so has not bought the HoT expansion yet. Not that he doesn’t want to buy and play it’s just that with work AND the plays that we do at one of the community theatres around here AND the stage combat classes he teaches AND etc. that he just has no time left right now to play.

I haven’t played many MMO’s or games with an “economy” but I wonder what would happen if you actually had items that deteriated with use. Maybe if you had to fix things with mats like fix heavy armor with metal. I wonder if the market would be stronger for crafted items.

I have played games with this in it …. not even worth worrying about. Since every time you stop at a town or city you just automatically go to the forge to fix. Not much of a time or gold sink.

I have been playing just about every day for anywhere from an hour a day to over 10 hours. Usually it’s 2 – 3 hrs at a time thou. I have yet to be tired of the game. I have yet to run out of things to see and do. I have not finished the PS on even one char yet and just a couple of weeks ago finally got map completion done on 1 char. And I only did it on a char because I had a precursor drop and decided to finally make a legendary for S&G’s.
I actually started 3 new chars after the NPE went into effect and have found nothing that is that bad about the leveling or anything. I have all the episodes of the LS that I got just for logging in and have not finished those either. I have gone thru 1 path of 1 dungeon, I have only done 1 fractal, I don’t PvP and very rarely do WvW.

So …… I am always amused and amazed how people can be out of things to do in this game.

I have been playing since Beta over 1000 days ago and been playing just about every day. I have 4 level 80 characters. I have map completion on just one so far. I have not played PvP all that much nor WvWvW just PvE mostly. I am still finding things and events that I have not seen before. Endgame? If I ever reached endgame that would mean the game is over and all finished and I am definitely not done with everything. Actually I am finally going to make a legendary since I had Zap drop for me a few weeks ago which is why I finally did map completion on at least one character.

Since I go to all levels of the game and just play and harvest every node I come across I have a boat load of gold off of selling the low level stuff. As long as people are willing to spending the gold I am willing to harvest the nodes for them …….

The one that I have follow my characters around the most would be the Mini Festive Golem, yes even when it is not Wintersday

Are you saying that you cannot see them in your bank? or your hero panel? If it’s your bank then no you will NOT see them there anymore. The bank storage of the minis went away or will go away whenever you take them out and store them in your hero panel.

There is not much of a connection where my other half and I go most of the time (we live full time in an RV). So we have kept the unlimited data on our Verizon phones. 99% of the time we have a awesome Wi-Fi connection thru them. Sometimes we use only 5gb a month but lately we have used around 50gb a month or so between the 2 of us. He uses his connection for intranet stuff, gaming and work while I use mine for the intranet and gaming.

No PvP in the PvE maps. There is are 2 whole areas set aside for PvP. Use those but do not put PvP in PvE.

The feature was asked for in the first GW for doing titles like Drunk or Sweet Tooth. Click fest quite often. They did make one change for the Drunk title. They made it so that you could click fast instead of trying to time it.

That dress flap decided to show itself in a play we did. This weekend was the last weekend of the play. One char says something about the colours of the outfit (purple, pink and orange) which had nothing to do with the colours of that stupid dress (white and gold) and then the char comments on the colour of their eyes (of course she said black and blue). The audience applauded for the dig at the controversy.

We also had a nod to Star Trek which with us loosing Spock (Lenard Nemoy) was also another spot we got applause. Yes the Star Trek nod was already written into the script before he passed.

Changing a tire, changing the oil, fixing a computer down to the component level — all very easy for my other half. Not easy for me at all. Even thou I have tried some of them.
